Your Autumn cookbook is by far my favorite cookbook of all time. I happened upon it at a bookstore a few years ago and absolutely fell in love with all of your beautiful artwork. I have probably read it a hundred times and often read it when it is not even fall. Your website mentions that you are working on a new book and I am waiting with bated breath for it to come out. Currently I am trying to track down all of your cookbooks that are out of print as I want a complete collection of all of them! You are incredibly talented and reading your books always makes me feel so good. Your recipes are wonderful and elegant yet unpretentious. Thank you for letting me see the world through your eyes and making thing seem a bit more beautiful.

Yes! I’ve bought 3 Autumn books, 2 Christmas, 3 Girlfriends, Heart of the Home, calendars, etc. etc. – for me, family, and friends. Whenever I introduce someone “new” to Susan Branch – they just love them and have to have more! What a talent! It’s raining, thundering, lightening like crazy right now. I think I will go get a Susan Branch book and ENJOY! Thank you Susan.

I just looked at the great recipes that appeared in the Country Living Magazine. Are all these recipes in a particular Autumn book?

    Hi Susan,

Not that many days left in Aug. My husband says since he was a kid and his birthday came around (Aug. 17) summer was over as school was right around the corner. Now he makes me think like that. Today I went to my neighborhood farm and all the fall decorations (I bought some) were out and as I was there last week and it was summer stuff, I guess my husband is right. Today after sunny sweltering hot days and of course lots of rain days there is none of that Jersey humidity–almost crisp. Now I’m thinking Fall. I too, have to go away in Sept. and will be back in early Oct., so I’ll get ready here with my decorating. I love all the Autumn food and I also have your Autumn cookbook 9among others). I’ll get in the grove. When you see the Mums–Fall is almost here.

Hello Susan, I just love all your recipes and books. My grandchildren’s photo albums are decorated with many of your stickers as are my recipe cards. You are such an inspiration! Your website is just the happiest place. I am looking forward to your future book.

My hubby and I haven’t had any fun adventures in a while and with work cannot really go on vacation right now, but we can go on a fun and special picnic. Thank Y♥U for the picnic recipes above. It makes planning this time together even more special and fun. I can’t wait to surprise my hubby with this good food.

I love your cookbooks too Susan! Not only for the recipes but for the beautiful art and love of life that you have poured into them. I love to watercolor myself, so when I pick up one of your cookbooks, I feel like I’m sitting with a friend who gets me!
Thank Y♥U so much for sharing yourself with the world and with ME!

    ♥Lee Ann

it will soon be fall and how i look forward to that time of year. i love decorating for the fall, and by the end of august some of the fall towels, linens and flowers come out and take up residence in my kitchen and in my living room. i love the reicpes, and you are so right on the lobster rolls, keep it simple, no frills and toast that hot dog bun. a wonderful sandwich for a fall afternoon picnic. thank you so much for the wonderful and yummy recipes, i have a friend from Massachussetts and tried the lobster roll out on her and she said it tasted exactly like ones they had in Martha’s vineyard. i think i made her homesick. someday i hope to visit New England in the Fall and enjoy all the beautiful scenery there. Happy Fall!!!! 🙂

  9. I am off work on this auspicious first day of Autumn. What is my first order of the day? (Well, after making bacon, eggs and homemade nut muffins for breakfast, of course) To set out my autumn decorations and get out my Susan Branch Autumn cookbook and ponder my way through its pages for an hour or so. My copy is well-loved, I probably should purchase a new one. My cat chewed on one corner when he was a baby and there are a few stains here and there on the pages. Come to think of it, I believe he chewed on some of the other copies of your books I have. Hmmmm – he must know that all things contained therein taste good!! Can’t think of a better way to celebrate this day! Happy Autumn!

Made the Iowa Cornbread with my chili for our wonderful fall weekend getaway with special friends. So good! What I love, too, about all your recipes, Susan, whether online or in my fav books of yours is that they’re soooo gorgeously illustrated that it just makes cooking all that more fun! Somehow I just KNOW that when I make a Susan Branch recipe, it’s going to be SCRUMPTIOUS. XOXO…kp

I went home to Seattle to spend my 45th birthday will some friends. I had sent your “Girlfriends Forever” book to my friends a few years back and my friend drove up the road to pick me up in a red convertible bug! Her husband wanted to surprise us! We had so much fun toodling around the San Juan Islands in Tina’s bug. Your book really inspired us to keep having fun!
    Thanks so much!

Dear Susan: “Many” years ago I owned a gourmet shop in NJ…I cannot beging to tell you how many of your wonderful books we sold. Till this day my daughters and I are huge fans of you and your recipes…you have touched so many hearts in such a “simple” way…..We have your poster Heart of the home framed and proudly displayed….thank you!

Dear Susan: My birthday, too, was at the end of summer. Instead of shorts and flip flops(or “zories”) I received Seventeen Magazine and notebook paper! To me, in Southern California, I know Autumn is around the corner when I see the belladona lilies, or “pink ladies” blooming- I still think “uh-oh, school is coming” whenever I see those! Love your blog, keep it coming.

    Hi, Susan.
When I read some of these comments from other girlfriends, I feel a bit old. I wrote before about taking the recipe pages out of Country Living magazine and keeping them to frame some day. That was before our daughter Beth was born and she is now 25 beautiful years old. I broke the news about Santa to her from your story in the Christmas or Vineyard Seasons cookbook. (Your story helped, but, alas, not much. She was really upset.:( ) Anywhoo, she is an Anglophile and will receive a copy of your new book for Christmas this year. I don’t suppose you have any Dr. Who anecdotes in there…..:) Enjoy the success of this newest venture, girlfriend! It gives me inspiration that at 55, I am not done being creative! Congrats to Joe, too. What a guy.

When my daughter got married and had yet to have her own “family customs” I gave her the Autumn cookbook and lent her my Summer so she could get ideas from them for her own family. What can I say? Thank You

I first commented on this post years ago when I was a new mother on maternity leave and loved reading your books when my baby was sleeping. Now I am a busy mother of two and don’t have as much down time but still love your work all the same. I perused your site today and was so happy to learn you have come out with two more books! Those I must add to my collection. I have all of your cookbooks! Any chance you will come out with any other cookbooks? I always thought you should complete your collection with a “Spring” cookbook. Hint, hint. 🙂 You are a rare talent and I love the positivity and beauty you put into the world. Best wishes to you!

    • sbranch says:

Nice to hear from you Jillian, congratulations on the newest addition to your family! I might do a breakfast cookbook someday, or maybe a tea book, or perhaps winter. Going to England and Scotland in the fall, so I’ll figure out what’s next when I get home, after Christmas. Thank you so much!

  22. Just reading through these as it is now Autumn. I remember tearing out and hoarding what I think were your recipes from the old Country Living magazine. Did it have a separate recipe section, maybe on different paper? I’ve moved since then and haven’t seen them in decades 😢 At any rate, I have all of your cookbooks and they live in my Special Cookbook place with Julia Child and a bunch of cookbooks from chefs who are friends and my Mom’s handwritten cookbook. Potato Oie from Summer serves ONE 😋

Just pulled out my copy of your Autumn cookbook! I love to read through its pages… gets me excited
about the upcoming Fall! It is a spectacular Fall day here in central Oregon, beautiful color and a perfect
68 degrees. I went down by the river to have a quick coffee this morning while I waited for an early
appointment. The water was sparkling like diamonds and people were walking, running, biking and paddle boarding. All the dogs were smiling in greeting to any passersby! Truly a beautiful day.

  24. Carol says:

Absolutely spectacular day here in Central Oregon! The color is amazing and the temperature is perfect.Temperatures at night are cool, we had frost on the pumpkin the other night! A dusting of
fresh snow covers the highest mountain tops. Yahoo! A bit of a warmup over the weekend before it
cools down in earnest. I am ready for Fall. It is my favorite season! Bring on the pumpkin spice lattes,
autumn picnics, quilts, sweaters and football! It may be different due to COVID, but it is still the best
season of all and we will make the best of it!

  25. Susan Polito says:

Hello, Susan! We’re in Florida until May, and I left all four of your cookbooks back in Syracuse! I’ve made your apple crisp recipe so many times that “no recipe required!” I also make your carrot cake recipe for Thanksgiving whenever I’m asked to bring dessert! So pretty and so delicious, too! Anyway, whenever you put a recipe on your site, I’m going to save it!! I remember falling in love with your artwork and your recipes years ago when they were in Country Living magazine. I used to tear them out and save them! I couldn’t wait till the next issue arrived! 🧡🎃🐿

    • sbranch says:

Susan! Thank you! And I have to add that my mom’s doctor for almost all her 8 children was Doctor Polito! We loved him. He had something like 8 or 10 kids himself!

  26. Fran from Michigan says:

I’m wondering if I’m the only one that reads your cookbooks like a good book to curl up with! I don’t know what is better the pictures or the recipes. Love them all.
