Jack’s New Game . . .

Have you ever seen a kitty play fetch?  Jack (my new kitty in case you don’t know–he’s almost 16 weeks old now), taught me how to play a couple of days ago, and now he would like us to do it all day every day.    Watch!  He’s brilliant! I should get him an agent! 😉

XOXOXOXXOXOXO

I had to show you! Isn’t it too much?  I’m a proud kitty mommy!  xoxo

    Toooooo funny and sooooo talented!!! =}

  7. jennifer says:

Hilarious! 🙂 I’ve never seen that.
I couldn’t help but hear what sounded like dishes clinking in the kitchen.
    Have you Joe doing dishes??

Merry Christmas to you both. Hope it’s filled to the brim with love and laughter.
Not to mention all the delish food. 🙂

  8. Paulette says:

Glitter pom poms—George, of Fred and George the orange kitten fame loves glitter pom poms and will play fetch and catch. The second most fun for both is watching mom fetch them from under the stove, behind the stove, next to the refrigerator and under the furniture! No dust bunnies in those locations any more!

  9. Pam K says:

Thank you Susan, for bringing a smile to my face every time I look at your blog. Jack is adorable and so smart. How lucky he is to have found you. When he is bringing the ball back to you I can’t help but notice his front paws – it looks like he’s wearing white socks. Is Girl Kitty getting along with him still? And have you given him any cat nip yet?

    • sbranch says:

I read you should let them get older for cat nip, although I think Joe put some on a scratching post. Yes, he has socks! Girl gets a little better with him everyday — I saw them play a little bit!

    • Karen P says:

Funny you should say that, Pam, about Jack having socks because I was noticing that, too. I thought it looks like he has a pair of black pants on with little white booties at the bottom! So cute! I’ve never seen a cat “fetch” like that before…sure, once maybe, but not over and over again! He IS a smart one!! So fun!

  10. Lori says:

I agree – the smartest kitty in the world! So sweet – and growing too.

  11. Pamela Jewett says:

Jack does better than my dog!
    Good kitty.

  12. Tricia Staley says:

He’s adorable… Merry Christmas to you all!

  13. Shanon says:

so cute! my cat will actually catch the ball in mid-air when he feels so inclined! he thinks he’s a dog 🙂

  14. Sarah Maldonado says:

Smart AND handsome….a winning combo. I heard you telling him how smart he is…..I did that very same thing to my dear Nelly Bly….I would tell her how smart and cute she was. Our furbabies are our children without a doubt!

  15. Nellie says:

A “retriever cat!” How adorable! How on earth do you ever get anything else done?

Still working on that “to do” list around here. Do you have yours done?:-)

    xoxo

  16. natasha says:

    he is soo adorable!
he will be very good at catching mice and crickets and bringing them to mama!
    hehehe
    merry christmas.
i love starting my day with your latest posting, it warms my morning.

  17. {oc cottage} says:

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! my little princess used to
play fetch! i would throw a foil ball up the stairs
then she’s run up there and bring it back to me
so i could do it again…and again…and, ok, until
i’d pretend to lose it! ;} i just had to keep that
ratty old ball after she went to kitty heaven.
    your little guy it just A-dorable!!!!!!! ;}

    m ^..^

    • sbranch says:

I have an old toy of one of my gone kitties too . . . it’s a mouse with nice little puncture marks in it and ears eaten off!

  18. Phyllis Mullins says:

In the days when my late husband John was still smoking! he’d wad up the cellophane wrapper from a pkg of cigarettes and play fetch with one of our two Siamese.by name of Oolong, he too was a smart cat! So much fun.

  19. Sarah Powell says:

Darn smart, cute, Jack Cat…..but your Christmas tablecloth is to die-for 🙂 S

    • sbranch says:

      It’s secretly a bedspread :-)! xoxo

      • Jacquelyn Wirthlin says:

I was noticing your tablecloth as well. Cute. I seem to collect shower curtains and use them for lots of other uses. Bedspreads too. Jack is quite the guy. “Jack’s the name, fetchings the game” … He’s much better at it than my little dog, Gidget. She refuses to give me the toy! You have a lovely productive day with Jack and JOey, Sue.

  20. Francine says:

Aw-w-w!!! Too cute! I bet you’re a proud kitty ma-ma! I love how he always returns it at the same pace.

  21. Linda Stone says:

That’s one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen! I love how he races after it, but walks slowly back to return it, as if to say, I’ll do this on my own terms ….. this is a doggie game, but I am a cat after all! Precious. Thans for sharing.

  22. Kerry S. says:

Too cute and smart – both of you!! Isn’t it wonderful what our pets can teach us to do?? Cats continue to amaze me with their abilities and their intelligence!
Have a wonderful leading-up-to-Christmas week! Our lists just go on and on this time of the year – you have your priorities right though – making time for fun!
    Cheers to all!

  23. So cute and soooo smart and what fun to watch!!

  24. M J Smith says:

He is so adorable!! I love his coloring. And you’re right … he is really smart. I have never seen a kitty bring a ball back! Mine would just catch it and play with it. I think you have a new calling … animal trainer!

  25. Oh, your kitty cat, Jack, is too cute!!! That’s so fun that he plays catch with you. He really is very smart.

Cats love fresh sources of running water. Some of my other friends, who have cats, do the same thing. When the sink water is on, they’re the are…sometimes when the bathtub faucet is on, too 🙂 🙂 They seem to really like that for some reason 🙂

Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather 🙂

  26. Pat Tingwall says:

Love, love, love seeing Jack in action!!! Definitely puts a smile on my face to watch him! He is one cute, smart, wonderful little man and all us out here are in love with him! My son’s cat played fetch, too, and it is amazing to see….you don’t expect a cat to think or want to do this! We are enjoying your kitty so much through you. Thanks! Love how his little moustache is growing with him, too :).

Also, love you “bedspread” tablecloth idea…looks great!

    Have a Merry Christmas!

  27. Connie Michael says:

Couldn’t help but notice that cute lil cat swagger walk Jack has – he is something else! I think we all have totally enjoyed getting to watch your boy growing up! Give him a little scratch under the chin from me! 🙂 XO to all of you!

    • sbranch says:

I’m noticing the swagger too, he’s a real guy!

      • Connie Michael says:

Forgot to tell you – my two boys (turkish vans) have discovered the joys of the Christmas package wrappings…. they will grap a bow or piece of wrapping paper and proudly march or run it into where their toy basket is and put their “treasures” in….. I have found many little bits of this and that in their basket! Too cute!

  28. {oc cottage} says:

oh my gosh! i had to watch it again! the
way he stalks back to you…so full of
pride over the kill…prey in his mouth…
what a riot! you hit the jackpot with
    that furry little man!

    m ^..^

    • sbranch says:

Just suddenly realized, I’m probably teaching him to “bring” me things! Yikes. Hope he knows the difference between happy green ball with bell, and sweet little birdy.

  29. Aggie says:

What a talent and so adorable!! Love Jack…….Girl too :-))

  30. Linda Wattier says:

What a smart cat! What’s on your list for this last week before Christmas? Merry Christmas to you.

  31. Susan Jones (CLBCQ) says:

My older children used to watch a cartoon called “CatDog” … enough said! xo

    • sbranch says:

OK, so we will have to think of a new name for Jack’s show! 🙂

      • Susan Jones (CLBCQ) says:

Just showed Laura, Daniel, & Timothy the video… and our Vizsla, Rez, came up to us with the sound of your voice… looking for the ball that you were tossing! She’s quite confused… !!! We have a friend in Michigan with a Pomeranian named Charlie Brown who is quite adept at tricks… I think we could put together a LasVegas Show! Daniel suggests “America’s Got Talent”!!!

  32. Susan Simon says:

Well done, Jack! Adorable (even if he is a boy!) and a very engaging, terrifically entertaining kitten! I love his “socks”… and yes, you are teaching him to bring you things… but he is so smart, I am sure he will not bring you other “special” little gifts.

Back to my to do list, too… our grandkids arrive today and I can’t wait to see them… but have to change some of the decorations around so little hands can’t hurt themselves or the decorations!

Our snow that fell Saturday is ALL gone. It’s 45 degrees out there. Did you get snow for your party? Have a great week, everyone… not sure how much time I will have to get on here… but I will before Christmas gets here to wish you all the best. Bye for now!

    • sbranch says:

No, we didn’t get snow . . . some nice flakes yesterday, but it didn’t stick and we’re back to 40 degrees and sunshine today! Not complaining!

      • Pat Mofjeld says:

Same thing here in Minnesota–no snow. I can’t quite get in the “Christmas mood”, maybe because it doesn’t look like Christmas outside with the green/brown grass. Sounds like the weatherman is predicting a “brown Christmas” this year with no snow predicted…guess I’m not complaining, either–but it does seem so odd… 🙁

        • sbranch says:

Where you are, it really is odd!!! We’re on an island that stays a little warmer, we don’t get overwhelmed with snow most years, just enough to make it interesting — but you should be in it by now!

          • Pat Mofjeld says:

I know. We had flurries today and it looked so pretty but it will be a brown Christmas here–short of a miracle! Incidentally, I’m trying your lightbox SAD therapy. I told Norm I don’t know if it is the light or just the 30 minutes of guiltless reading time every morning–but think it is making a difference in the way I feel. Thanks so much for sharing about that. I’ve thought about trying it for several years but you just pushed me over the edge to try it! 🙂

          • sbranch says:

So glad Pat — it works for me too. Vitamin D too . . . sunshine pill!

  33. Deborah says:

That is really quite amazing, he must be so glad he is ‘home’ with you both! Your house looks adorable btw…

  34. auntie m says:

Too adorable! I love his little “socks”…white athletic style.

  35. Peggy says:

That was so much fun to watch. Would it not be a sad life without our 4 legged friends
I OWN RESCUED 3 YEAR OLD SIBERIAN HUSKY THAT I LOVE TO DEATH
    MAKES MY DAY

  36. Carol Lichwala (gramz) says:

How cute!! What a smart kitty Jack is. I have never seen a kitty play fetch before, even some dogs don’t bring back the ball. It looks like he does it every time.
Thanks for letting us enjoy your Jack, we feel like Aunts to him…LOL!

  37. Addie Lynn Smith says:

That’s adorable! What a little smarty Jack is!!!

  38. Laura Jenkins says:

I love animals of all kinds…however, cats are the most entertaining to me! Look how well you have trained Jack to fetch! I am so impressed…and clearly, you can lead a cat to water and make him drink! 😉 What joy this little fella is bringing to your home…just like you had hoped…and yes, please…one of those cocktails with the rosemary syrup sounds divine! xo

  39. pam says:

I love watching him stroll back so casually! His little legs are so cute. You too. xo

  40. Karen W says:

Well I must say you got your fun’s worth with Jack. Not only a good disposition but he has already got his manly swagger going on. Please continue to up date us. Would like to know when he rewards you with a live creature. At our house the largest trophy was a rabbit. Such a good kitty you have. Too cute. Happy Day!

    • sbranch says:

My old cat got a bunny, which is not my favorite thing about cats. Gophers and mice? Yes. Bunnies and birds? No. Too bad cats can’t seem to tell the difference.

      • Karen W says:

What I really don’t like is when they bring home their live trophys to play with, usually in the garage but we have had a few birds loose in the house. They are soooo proud and do so want to share. Can’t get too upset though. Looks like you could have a series of Jack stories to write. He seems to be fearless enough to have get tales to tell.

  41. Karen Saunders says:

Jack is so smart and has so much personality. we had a kitten that when we were on our family vacation we stopped for gas and found a newborn kitten a mother had dropped and didn’t come back for. we stopped at a local vets, got a bottle and bottle-fed it. he looked like a long-haired Jack. when he was Jack’s age i took a paper clip, bent the ends up and stuck two foam yellow ear-plugs on each end, and that cat would spend ‘hours’ (if i would do it) bringing it back to me. i told you i always took them in the car…..when they were young and when i fed them i always whistled. so when i whistled they came just like a dog. (that’s kind of handy.) altho i don’t know if i would ever let Jack outside…. he’s so cute someone might steal him!!
the siamese i had when i was on the lookout would follow me just like a dog, no matter how far i would walk. he was my favorite cat and when i go to heaven i will be soo happy to see him. (that’s what i believe and i’m sticking to it!!) karen s

  42. pat addison says:

good morning Susan, awwwwww he is soooooooo adorable, my cat Midnight does that, he will bring his sock toy or a plastic ring from the milk jug for you to throw and he will fetch. i must have a ton of those rings hidden around the house, its going to be fun when we move the furniture aroun and find all those rings…..LOL!!!!! a very smart and adorable kitty, and the proud kitty mom. isn’t it fun??? just wait til you discover kitty tv… for us thats when the cats watch the birds on the feeders at the windows. gets really funny at times. have a great day and Merry Christmas everyone!!! hugs…… 🙂

    • pat addison says:

my cats adore running water. turn on the kitchen faucet and all 3 are there, go into the bathroom and turn on the faucet and there they are, practically break down the door to get in to see the water. midnight loves to watch the toilet flush, just about gets in there to watch the water go down and flush away. LOL!!! hugs….. 🙂

      • sbranch says:

        That’ll be next!

        • pat addison says:

it will, and just be careful he doesn’t jump in. midnight loves to watch the water in the toilet, he jumps up to watch. and when i have a bath, he is on the tub edge swatting the bubbles… and yes he has fallen in a few times and had a bubble bath himself and one night he fell into the toilet. that was funny, we were in bed and we heard the seat go clunk, then heard a splash and another clunk and out came this soaking wet kitty, it was hilarious. 🙂

    • sbranch says:

Yes, we have that! But my feeders are just outside the kitchen windows which are lined with my Beatrix Potter people. Jack is like a bull in a china closet, so until he’s big enough to jump up there himself, he has to rely on me holding him to the windows.

      • pat addison says:

Tabitha was like that, we had to hold her yup to the window to see the birds, but now she can jump up on the counter and go see the birds on the kitchen porch, she is just learning to chatter at them. 🙂

  43. I love your comment that he trained you! Thanks for the chuckle this morning. 🙂

Our Maine Coon’s favorite toy is a rope. We hide it and she finds it, then brings it back to where she thinks it belongs, behind the hunter green chair in our living room. I never thought of the fact she had trained us… but it is true!

  44. Lisa G. says:

What a cute kitty. What a good boy! 🙂 Bringing it back to you with his little bandy-legged walk.

  45. Kristina says:

Oh, I love this! It reminds me of my late kitty “Aggie” who fetched from the day we brought her home as a baby and for 15 years after. Mosthly is was wads of paper or little fake mice form the pet store, but her favorite was a small “koosh” ball – you know the rubbery ones with the little “spikes” sticking out all over? She loved that thing and would fetch it over and over again… Have fun with little Jack!

    • sbranch says:

There are holes in this ball, I think it makes it easy for him to pick it up!

      • Kristina says:

I wish there was a way to be “notified” when you reply to our comments. It would be a bit easier than coming back and scrolling down (hoping…) Just a thought. 🙂

        • sbranch says:

I heard that if that happens you get notified when anyone comments, which would be a lot of notifying. I’ll ask the computer wizard I know and see what he says.

  46. Kim says:

What a good kitty, indeed! (And what a good “mama”, he’s lucky to have, too!) From our 7 felines and 3 canines to Jack and Girl Kitty, “A Very Furry Christmas and a Pawsitively Playful New Year!”

From the top of the porch to the top of the wall … With heartfelt licks, wags, leaps and rolls!

  47. Jennifer W says:

Yeah! A video with Jack in it, thank you so much! Can you say “Cute Overload” he is the most darling thing! I love his little mustache! You should be proud, he is such a smart little boy! Merry Christmas!

  48. Holly says:

He’s sooo adorable! Very smart boy! Jack is in a very special club! My kitty, Moochie, plays fetch too. He started by bringing me the plastic pull tab that comes on milk jugs. I’d throw it, and he would bring it back to me. Then, he started bringing me a furry toy mouse. I’d throw it, and he’d jump to get it, sometimes doing acrobatics! No matter where it lands, he finds it, then brings it back. Really amazing — we have cats that play fetch! The really fun part starts when he brings it to us in the middle of the night, and tries to wake us up to play!! Just too cute!

  49. Gail in N.H. says:

So funny Sue, your kitty acts like a dog and my new puppies are acting like cats..

    • sbranch says:

      Hahaha! Topsy turvy!

      • Pat Mofjeld says:

One of our schnauzers cleans her face after she eats breakfast or supper–licks her front paw and then smooths her eyebrows and beard. She also goes up to the sofa and stretches her front legs on the front edge like a cat. We’re wondering if she watched the kitty too much when she was a puppy! 🙂

  50. MaryO1230 says:

Too too darling! My tux kitty does the same thing (and he’s nearing 10 years old)! I love it! Buster favors a beat up old mouse for his “fetch” toy. He reminds me of a lion with a “kill” when he drops it at my feet! He’ll also amuse himself by flinging his toy-of-choice in the air and catching it. I’ve noticed too if I’m feeling down, Buster suddenly materializes to play fetch. Animals know!

  51. Holly says:

Hi Susan! We had a cat named Clyde who would play fetch with the same jingle-type ball. If he didn’t like how you threw it, he was smart enough to take the ball to someone else in the house! 🙂

  52. Margie from Lavender Cottage says:

I love watching him run, twist and roll when he is fetching but my favorite is that “oh so casual” stroll back to you with the prize. It made me laugh out loud! Baby Pearl does a version of Fetch but she is very easily distracted so it doesn’t go on for very long. She loves doing it in the hallway because of the old wooden floors that are very slippery and she can slide back and forth. That’s part of the game! They just delight me over and over again. Have a great Monday, girlfriends!! Happy Pre-Christmas!!

  53. Laura Croyle says:

What Fun!! A kitty that plays fetch! Amazing!! And Sooo Cute!! My kitty will play fetch with her favorite little puff ball, but she won’t quite bring it all the way back to us. She’ll drop it it nearby and wait for us to toss it again for her. You are so lucky to have such a smart, handsome kitty! I hope Girl Kitty isn’t too jealous!
    Merry Christmas!!

  54. Lynn McMahon says:

    Hi~
A kitty that can fetch? Maybe he’s part dog? The best of both worlds! !
    ~Happy Monday~

  55. Jan says:

    Susan,
Indeed, what a smart little kitty! My grandchildren would love him. Although I’m a little late with my next comment ( had to do some catching up-had a very busy weekend) The Christmas story was just wonderful! Brought back so many memories of my Christmas’s as a child. My mom would make doll clothes for our dolls too. I remember getting the Chatty Cathy doll I wanted so badly and my blue metal cash register. Those were the days! Merry Christmas ! I’m off to do some wrapping.

  56. Paulie says:

I think he is confused. He is a dog that thinks he is a cat……..ha ha……..nope never saw a cat play fetch before…….very very unusual to me anyhow. Very unique……..but of course……..why not? Look who he lives with! a Very unique ARTIST & person!

  57. Cheryl says:

Hey There! You must post that on You Tube!!! We had a tuxeudo kitty named Ceicle (he lived for 20 years) that insisted on drinking out of the faucet every time someone turnned on the water. After a few years he decided on just one particular bathroom sink and he would sit in the doorway of that room and meow LOUDLY until someone would come and turn on the water for him. He would jump up onto the side of the sink and take his sweet time while we just stood there waiting for him to get his little kitty thirst quenched! Yikes!
Jack is adorable! Hope you and Joe and Gril Kitty are all well. Happy Healthy Holidays to you all!
    Best Thoughts,
    Cheryl
    xxxooo

    • sbranch says:

I’m leaving the water on for him now, while I put on my slippers in the morning, comb my hair, etc. He loves it. Hasn’t figured out he can drink it yet. He’s just smacking it with his paw, trying figure out where the “there” is.

  58. Rosinda says:

Oh, Susan, I just LOVED this video! Jack is such a sweetheart! How adorable that he’s playing fetch with you! Thanks so much for sharing! xoxo

  59. Karen D says:

Well this is new to me – cats that fetch! I like cats but I cannot have cats (allergies). One reason I love my labrador retrievers is for having their own built-in game. And of course, for being marvelously sweet and loving! I am so glad you posted the video – he really is adorable bringing it back over and over! I wouldn’t have believed it. How fun to have such cuddly petty-pets in your house! My DH knows I will always be a girl with a dog ;0) – I am sure you will always be a girl with a cat! Love you!

    • sbranch says:

True, but if I was a girl with a dog, it would be a lab. I love those sweet sweet dogs!!! Are yours black?

      • Karen D says:

Yup! Two black labs – one big older boy and one younger smaller girl. They are good company for each other. It was smart to get another kitty. Girl Kitty will warm up to Jack – sooner or later ;0) and then will be so glad he is there – whether she lets on or not. I think as pets get older, having another of their own kind really makes a difference in keeping their minds active. The younger one is always up to something and the older one helps set the boundaries. Just my take on it!

        • sbranch says:

I think you’re right; she was really getting set in her ways and already Jack sort of forces her out of her box. It’s going to work out in the long run. Two black labs, how wonderful!

  60. tracy says:

how a-dorable! he is precious! Funny how some cats will play fetch and others look at you as if to say – really? cats don’t do that! LOL I have 3 cats now and one of them loves to play fetch – her name is Willie. Her predecessor, my first cat, Holly, also loved to fetch her red ball.
thanks again for the video – Jack is so cute

  61. Jennie says:

Susan- this made me smile today. And I desperately need that right now. Thank you! 🙂

  62. Mary S. says:

Oh! He’s such a baby!!! I love this so much!!

I am reading ENCHANTED APRIL again! I love this part: “Mrs. Arbuthnot was astonished. The extraordinary quickness with which, hour by hour, under her very eyes, Lotty became more selfless, disconcerted her. She was turning into something surprisingly like a saint…. Rose stared at her astonished. If she went on like this, soon a nimbus might be expected round her head, was there already, if one didn’t know it was the sun through the tree trunks catching her sandy hair.”

  63. He is to cute. Makes me want a kitten.

  64. Ann says:

What would we do without our pets? I start every day with cuddles from our two dogs on the bed. Jack has become the mascot of your blog.

  65. jeannine leonard says:

So cute, I would play with him too. How can you resist?
    Merry Christmas!

  66. judy says:

This is too cute! I’ve never seen a kitty fetch a ball and actually bring it back. You are having so much fun with your baby! xo

  67. Jennifer W says:

I wonder what Girl Kitty is thinking when she sees him run around like that. Does she ever play with him?

    • sbranch says:

She jumps out playfully at him every so often, just a couple of times so far, but I think that’s how it starts. I think they bonded when they were locked upstairs together during our recent party . . . I came in later and could see a more relaxed atmosphere between them.

  68. Sheri says:

I am living vicariously through you right now…..we used to have a kitty named Obie and loved him very much….so fun. He lived till he was 14 or 15 years old with the last 3 he was a diabetic and I game him shots twice a day. But now we have several family members that have allergies and would be sick…..so have chosen to give that up. He is just darling and I am sure brings much joy to your household.

I also wanted to mention to you, I just wrote about my Christmas book collection on my blog after you shared some of your favorites several weeks ago. I noticed right away that we had one vintage collection in common. What a hoot. I thought you might want to look through my shelves….we are a curious lot like that aren’t we….notice I didn’t say nosey. 🙂
Enjoy if you are so inclined.

  69. Jack is SO unbelievably adorable. He looks like an illustration you sketched out that magically became real 🙂 My kitty, Pudge, loves to fetch, but I must admit- Jack is far superior in the sport! (Sorry, Pudgey!) ♥

  70. Donna says:

I have such a weak spot for black and white kitties! I think Jack is the the most adorable one I have seen yet. And as many cats as I have known I have NEVER seen one fetch like that. You are one lucky kitty mom! Keep the Jack posts coming!…..And Girl Kitty too!

    • sbranch says:

I am lucky, I’ve never seen it either . . . other of our girlfriends here have cats that do it, so I’m not alone, but still, this is my first!

  71. Mia Sophia says:

A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E! Jack is one very lucky kitty and you are one lucky, not owner, but care provider. Animals are our “Guardians of Being” as the title says of Eckart Tolle’s book. Animals teach us so much about being in the present, going with the flow and accepting what is. There divine purpose is to help us. They teach us joy, patience, companionship and love…all wrapped up in a cute little furry embodiment of life….a treasure to see in motion! Thank you!

  72. Sandra Gillanders says:

Jack is amazing and talented. Wow I’ve never seen a cat bring the toy back. He IS smart! Maybe he spent some time with a dog before you adopted him, lol!
I would want to play with him for hours. Next he will be fetching your slippers.
    Whata cutie!

  73. thea says:

Your Jack is so so handsome. And smart! My dog, Petey, loves to play ball, but he would never give me the ball back. So one day, he had it, I pointed to the ground in front of me and said ‘sit’ by mistake. or so i thought. He dropped the ball at my feet and sat waiting patiently. See, I had it wrong! Petey is obviously a very patient boy!

  74. CarolK says:

How cute is that!! I just love your Jack videos. My two (Tigger & Pooh) never learned that trick. I can throw a ball, a mouse, or a little stuffed animal down the hall and they just sit there with looks on their faces like “OK, that went far, now bring it back please” and I do! Of course they are both seven years old now and wouldn’t go nutz over a toy unless it is stuffed with cat nip. On the other hand, my NH pal, Brenda, has a seal point who just loves to have her little teddy bear thrown down the hall so she can run and retrieve it. Just like people, there are a zillion different personalities, each unique in their way. And don’t we just love our four-legged kids no matter how smart or (ahem) dumb they are. LOL

  75. Jody Thomas says:

awwww! That ‘fetching’ reminds me of my Mona when she was a kitten; she fetched too! and it had to be the balls with the bells just like Jack’s! she’s in heaven now; but this reminds me SO much of her.

    • sbranch says:

I’m finding out that cats fetching is pretty normal. I should have written about my strange Girl Kitty . . . she doesn’t fetch! 🙂

  76. deezie says:

    Hi Susan
I think Jack has to be the cutest cat I have ever seen. I didn’t think Cats played catch. He is simply adorable. Happy day Susan
    deezie

  77. Patty Opaczewski says:

So very cute!!!! I wish I had continued to play fetch with my kitties! They won’t do it any more. Mine are liking the water from the faucet too so I have to leave it dripping for them sometimes to play with and lap up. Merry Christmas Susan!

  78. Carolyn says:

As a good mother, I am sure, that you never tire of hearing compliments about your sooo cuuute fur
…..baby. Sorry, Emma (my calico cat) is sitting/walking across the keyboard and my lap. She watched Jack for awhile, but sadly was not impressed. She said, “I could do that if I really wanted to.” Ha

  79. Jonnie Nottingham says:

Very cool! My black and white kitty, Skeeter, also loves to play catch. I never had a cat before, so I didn’t know that kitties played catch.

  80. Dale Worness says:

I’d just like to know if you trained Jack to fetch or did he train you to throw? You could be the new “Cat Whisperer”! My cat Misty loves when I crumple up paper and throw it. She’ll chase after it, but as far as bringing it back to me, NOT GONNA HAPPEN! Jack would look adorable in a Santa hat or antlers. I love dressing up pets at Christmas. I just took photos of the 2 dogs I dog-sit for and that will be my Christmas present for their owner! It looks like Jack is really going to be a BIG cat. Bet he’ll outweigh Girl Kitty! Have a very MEOWY CHRISTMAS!

    • sbranch says:

I’ve been throwing the ball ever since I got him, and he’s been chasing it. But lately he wants to play more, so he’s been bringing me the ball. I think that’s how it started. He trained me! Not sure I’ve ever gotten a cat to let me dress them — dogs are so much better about things like that!

  81. Kimi says:

    Susan

To Cute to cute to cute, I can’t stand it what a cute little man and did you notice his walk? he has a little cowboy in him…. Susan please give him a kiss for me I’m going right now to kiss my bellama! “What a sweet boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  82. Martha Ellen says:

Sue, I think Jack is a MENSA cat!!! He is so smart! I’m sure as soon as Cat Mensa sees this video, they will be calling. Thank you for an adorable update! ♥

  83. Rachel says:

So cute 🙂 My daughter will love this video- she is a huge cat fan and always likes to see Jack 🙂 I admit- I especially like his acrobatics as he fetches 😉

  84. Pam T. says:

It must be difficult to get much work done with such a cute, playful toddler in the house! I am easily distracted by both our kitties (grown-ups) when they happen to be playful. We had a kitten at Christmas 4 years ago and what fun it was! She was a teeny little bundle of fur whose greatest delight was the shredded wrapping paper from all the gifts. Her kitten-ness still returns any time paper hits the floor. Jack is truly a blessed kitty to have found a home where he is loved just for being Jack. I’m sure Girl appreciates him too, in her own special way. 🙂

    • sbranch says:

I am cutting out paper these days to design things, do you think he lets me do that? No, he is attacking the paper!

  85. CindyK says:

Cool!! He is soooo cute walking back to you ever so calmly! We had a cat once who use to drop her bouncy ball down the basement stairs and run down to find it and bring it back up and do it all over again! She would do that several times! She would also play fetch with a large pom-pom, but she wouldn’t bring it all the way back like Jack does, she would drop it about a foot or 2 away, Thanks for sharing Jack’s recent talent! What a smart boy he is!! I know a lady who will sleep well tonight after playing all day! LOL!

  86. Karen says:

Susan, your little Jack is one smart kitty! I really enjoyed this video! Thanks for the chuckle!

  87. Evelyn says:

    Hi Susan,
He’s a bundle of energy. Noticed his little macho man way of walking. So masculine. Kittens are so much fun. I can see you’re enjoying him. :0)

    Evelyn

  88. Donna Hrehor says:

Thanks for the adorable break to my busy day! He’s sooooo cute! Donna

  89. Heidi Rose says:

Jack is just tooooo cute!! ♥ My boy kitty, Nubbin, loved water too…in the sink, in the flower vase (knocking it over and breaking it in the process) and even in the bird bath! Your little Jack kitty has such a cute personality. What fun!!! 🙂

    • sbranch says:

Next summer, the bird bath, oh dear. I have to talk him out of this interest he has in the birds outside the windows!

  90. Cynthia Krynock says:

Enjoyed that! It is break time for me…Jack is one smart little boy!

  91. Christine from Lafayette, CO says:

I’m so jealous! My 3 yr old lab doesn’t know how to fetch! She loves playing “Keep away”!! Love that walk of Jack’s! Its like a John Wayne swag!! Very manly!

  92. Charlene Hisayasu says:

I am so allergic to cats…but am thoroughly enjoying Jack’s antics and talents! W.O.W…a kitty that fetches?! This sounds like a child’s book in the making…complete with wonderful watercolors from the most delightful, loving imagination!!! (Hint, hint, hint!)
Thank you for sharing! A Blessed Christmas to you and yours!
p/s Also would love to know about “notifications” like Kristen. Also…how do you make a heart in this textbox?

    • sbranch says:

I forget, what notification? And the way to make a heart here? Just copy this one ♥ and paste it where ever you want. Does that make sense?

      • Charlene Hisayasu says:

I think I used the wrong word…not “notifications”. Kristen asked if there was some way to quickly relocate our messages so that we could read a possible reply. I try to use the “time posted” to relocate my messages.
Yes, very simple! ♥…there, I’ve done it! I was using the texting symbol <3.
♥♥♥Thank you for your reply, Susan!♥♥♥

        • sbranch says:

LOL! I felt the same way when I learned it!

        • Charlene Hisayasu says:

Just relocated Kristina’s comment. She asked for a way to be “notified” if you replied to our messages. Sorry for misinterpretation!
          ♥…there, I’ve done it again! ♥

  93. Margo says:

I love it!! Our girl kitty does the same thing! We adopted her when she was a year old and right away started “fetching” and playing with her ball just like that. I love how they carry it back to you in their mouths! Maybe our Sugar and your Jack could play “catch” together without humans! LOL 😉

    • sbranch says:

This would be good. Jack is really trouble if I paint or write with a pen, he wants to pounce on the brush! Would be good if he went out and played catch by himself!

  94. Winona says:

How cute! My 2 kitties would not lower themselves to chasing a ball, but our Pomeranian will do it for hours. He loves any kind of ball. He catches the ball in midair when we toss it to him. Our cats sit back and look at Buddy like he is crazy. LOL You have to love an older kitty’s attitude! Thanks for sharing Jack with us. Makes me want another kitten, but I doubt that Callie and Aeris would approve. (grin) Winona

    • sbranch says:

Approval is really hard to come by I’ve discovered. I’m glad I did it, but wow, I thought I was bringing home a “friend.” Hahahaha!

  95. Sandra Davidson says:

I have a kitty named Zeusie and he loves to have me throw anything and he will bring it back and drop it right in front of me to throw again. I also hat a cat named Hobbs who loved you to throw a ball against a wall and she would jump up and catch in her mouth. I have had many cats over the years put these were the only two that did anything. Jack is so smart and reminds me of a cat we had about 30 years ago named Boots, he had the white booties. Don’t we just love our animals.

  96. Joan B says:

OMG That is so CUTE!! I’ve been trying to teach my kitties to fetch, as they both will carry toys around in their mouths. Ginger is good and loves to play with a ping pong ball on the stairs – but still won’t fetch – and Ernie, our big black double-pawed cat, well, when he gets the ball, he just falls on top of it and won’t let anybody else near it!! He’s too sophisticated (or lazy) to play!!
Thanks for sharing – he is a LOVE!!

    Joan B.

    • sbranch says:

Be sure your ball has holes in it . . . Jack can’t pick up any that don’t. (Now I’m a fetch expert! LOL)

  97. Gert says:

Oh Susan..he is adoreable! I said to Tom ‘have you ever seen a cat play fetch’? He (of course) said…NO! lol I said .well, look..as Jack went flying across my iPad screen….lol We both sat here in disbelief! You have one smart cat!!

    Blessings,
    xoxo Gert

  98. karen ellen says:

soo totally cute….i am sooo glad you post these videos.. just love to watch your cats, cooking, driving into town, photos of the town and more… thanks for sharing.. : )

  99. Stephanie says:

I love these video’s. If he loves water and playing fetch – he must think he’s a dog! You get the best parts of a dog and a cat all mixed in one! He is very handsome too!

  100. Janet says:

    You say that’s JACK’S new game? 🙂
