ANNIVERSARY TODAY!

May 4, 2012, Five years ago today . . . we, including lots of you, were here . . . sailing out of New York Harbor on the Queen Mary 2, beyond giddy (and not just because of the champagne!) . . . for our dream-come-true two-month ramble through the English Countryside. MUSICA!

So many of you came along with us, remember? That’s why we had to bring all this luggage.  Okay, I know, you were virtual, and we have no excuse. Darn! Lots of art supplies in those bags, cameras, batteries, chargers, wires, and converters, not to mention Musica! . . . we were ready for desert-island living, just in cases!

And so the love affair began, over hill and dale we went, along narrow lanes, on the wrong side of the road, on the wrong side of the car, through hedgerows overhung with bowers of hawthorn and cow parsley, popping in and out of three-hundred-year-old pubs, listening to the birds sing, winding through stone villages festooned with bunting, wandering through gardens in sun and in rain, everything the slow way ~ and all just perfect for a house-crazy person like me . . .

Visiting the tea rooms the National Trust so kindly provides at each of the lovely properties they own, and writing everything down.

We learned about and could feel the history . . . they took such good care of their country, in most places, you can feel yourself in 1756 or 1835 or even 1250! It’s amazing for the imagination.

From Kent (The “Garden of England”) and Sussex, up to the Peak District and the Lakes, through the amazing Dales to York, back to the Cotswolds, Wiltshire and Hampshire. And it all basically looked like this.

This is where I first saw bunting in it’s natural habitat! Festooning doors and windows, and criss-crossing streets . . .

Gardens and gardens and gardens. Remember? And it was never boring. How could anyone get tired of seeing this?  This one, considered a “small garden” was designed by the famous garden designer Rosemary Verey. We were so happy to be there. Lunch waited on the other side of those windows on the right, and cold Pear Cider.

Visiting kindred spirit William Morris’s house (where I bought that scarf . . .) learning about the guy I’d been quoting for years . . . and finding out just what an amazing person he was 💞but this quote had already told me . . .

Everyday was a discovery.

They mow paths through wildflower fields . . .

Then of course…to Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top Farm, a place I’d dreamed of seeing for a very long time.  I was beside myself.

Alone her garden, with her darling Bee Bole . . .

Sketching the whole way because they didn’t allow cameras in the house . . . then turning the sketches into pages for the book I knew by that time I was definitely writing!

Honored to be there . . . Grateful for all that Beatrix Potter left behind . . .

I kept a diary of everything, took lots of pictures, and when we got home, I spent the following fall and winter watercoloring and writing everything down in my “good” handwriting . . . I had to tell the whole story . . . because if you fall madly in love with something you want everyone to feel it! You want to share that feeling!

It turned out to be part love story, part travel guide, with recipes too . . . not really knowing if I was succeeding as was doing it, but trying very hard to include every bit of the magic we found in our travels . . .

Day by day I wrote, page after page piled up, and then one day . . .

Still another dream came true. I hadn’t written a new book since 2004 and I really wanted to try something different with this diary, and here it was, bedecked with ribbon, hanging out with Petey who saw the whole thing first hand. And off it went, out to the world, introducing itself and saying Howdy Neighbor while I quaked in my slippers, waiting to see what people would think!  Then the reviews started coming in . . .

This was sent to me by one of our Girlfriends, you might remember it . . . her daughter had her own review system, I cried when I saw this! All of my books have been, for the most part, just like this, word of mouth.

And reviews started coming through on Amazon, and more crying ensued. And still does. Probably all authors think of their books as their babies, and I’m no different.  Course, then Paul McCartney had to get involved!

Or kind of. Not so sure he actually knew about it! But I love this anyway. And that’s it Girlfriends, just a little go-back-in-time celebration of a luvlee memory. Hope you enjoyed it!

So what else have I been up to? Same ole, same ole, actually . . .

Making new things. Thought we might like a Martha’s Vineyard cup!  What do you think? Selfishly, I admit, this will look wonderful in my new blue kitchen! Want to see the back?

. . . just a little something to celebrate the magic . . .

And then I thought, how about a cookie plate, tea cup and sandwich plate, wall hanging plate . . . combo? Like this . . . good for almost everything … with lots of good old-fashioned white space!

And I thought they look cute together. Mix and match. You can fit a sandwich on there, or a cookie!

Off I go! Just wanted to say hello. Off to the garden I go. Hope all is well with you. By the way, my computer person, says everything should be working with the ‘comments’ correctly now. Thank you for letting me know the troubles, and if it happens again, feel free to say something. Love you Girls! You Boys too! XOXO

      • Kathy Spicer says:

Cookie? Did someone say cookie? I must admit, even though it makes me sound a bit . . . free with my affections . . . that I have never met a peanut butter cookie that I did not fall completely and hopelessly in love with.

And so yes, I too want a cookie plate!

      • Barbara A Case says:

        Also, I !!!

  2. Darlene Westmoreland says:

Hi Susan. It’s Anne from Maine but it says Darlene Westmoreland (Hi Darlene!) Lovely post as always. Yes, I remember that first trip which became the beautiful book. I was right there beside you, as I’m sure most everyone was. Can’t believe it was five years ago already! Love, love the new cookie plate. Have a beautiful spring day!! Anne

  3. Ann Hyde says:

Delightful to look back on your journey. Make a note to visit the South West on another visit. Devon and Cornwall will charm you, sweet villages, wonderful National Trust properties, old harbours and beautiful estuaries…it’s truly bliss living here in Devon. 🌸

    • sbranch says:

It’s top of the list! Can’t wait! You are so lucky. We have watching a British show about finding houses in the country, and the other night it was a house in Devon, and we looked at each other and said, that’s where we have to go next!

      • Cindy Tuning says:

I love that show !! We visited my husbands family in Brixham several years ago and it was breathtaking. His Aunt Emily prepared a Devon Tea for us and it was the beginning of my love for such things. Isn’t it funny about anniversaries that make the memory seem so much more vivid ? BTW I love that you’re active on Instagram. Its the only social media I use anymore. I need the visual and its such a positive environment.

    • Anne Luther says:

We are going in Dec to D & C have never been. We inherited a number of watercolors from my husband’s family who made a trip there in the 40″s and bought a watercolor from each place they stayed. We plan to search out all of the locations in the watercolors. We will stay centrally at Bovey Castel, wanting a English Country House experience. Do you know it? Will we enjoy it? Much appreciate your advice if you care to offer it.

      • Rachel Lucas says:

Anne, you WILL love it! Impossible not to love the South West, even in December! Paul (husband) grew up in South Devon so we know it really well and the whole area is amazing- beautiful beaches, smugglers coves, Poldark country, soft hills and bleak moors…gorgeous!

  4. Sharon Silva says:

I’m SO happy that I was rambling through Barnes and Noble on a snowy February day 2014 and just happened upon your lovely book! My husband was in France for a week (business) and I was hunting for a new book to read while he was gone. Fireplace roaring, feet up, lap blankey in place and Sarah Brighten singing- my journey through England began. I stayed up very late because I just could NOT put that book down! I fell instantly in love with your writing, photos and artwork! I am now quite the fan and cannot wait to see what is in store for all of us girlfriends! Excited for my trio of cups to arrive!

    • sbranch says:

Love that, “where were you when…” especially the lap blankey! Cups will be there very soon!

  5. Pom Pom says:

Oh, how lovely to review and remember! I remember it like it was last year NOT five years ago. Sheesh!
Oh, I DO love the cookie plate and a sweet robin mug would be divine!
I hope your garden grows like crazy this summer, Susan!
I moved my SB books onto a shelf in my entry way for easier access! I love them all so much – thank you thank you thank you!

  6. Sandra says:

Susan what wonderful memories. and a wonderful book emerged..just loved your paintbox..wish I was there watching you use all those colours.
Thank you for inspiration…just loved it
    Many best wishes
    Sandrax

  7. Mary lou smith says:

Today’s blog was unexpected and a great joy. Time to reread A Fine Romance. Thank you ❤️

  8. Donna Cox says:

..good morning and Happy Anniversary !!.. I remember our journey well and then you turned it into a precious book !.. I love your new designs on the cups and teapot plate especially !!..have a good day !

  9. Kelley S. says:

Five years already? I loved that trip. I sat behind you just to the right. LOL! The book is a true favorite. My favorite photo in the entire book is of you outside Beatrix Potter’s House. Pure joy, a little awed, and total fangirl moment. Love that cookie plate too. My sister and I just got home from a ramble around southwest France in the wine country. GO! Lots of history, charm, medieval towns, and delicious foodings – the makings for another book.

    • sbranch says:

Total fangirl. For life! Thank you Kelley, yes France and the wine country! Would love to see it from a canal boat!

  10. Becky Maxwell from Atascadero, CA says:

A Fine Romance is the book that brought me to your world. I loved it. It made felt like I was on the trip with you and Joe. I rate it as one of my all time favorite books. When I need a vacation and cannot get away, I reread A Fine Romance. Thank you for a wonderful book.
Reading your blog today made me realize that I am coming up on the 10th Anniversary of my trip to Ireland. I spent a wonderful 11 days touring the country. Some of the highlights was seeing Belleek Pottery, The Giant’s Causeway, The Cliffs of Mohr, the ring of Kerry and last but not least kissing the Blarney Stone. I highly recommend a trip to Ireland for you and Joe.

P.S. I love the Martha’s Vineyard Cup and the Autumn cup you post about a couple of days ago.

  11. Karen Baron says:

Dear Susan, Thanks for taking me through my trip with you to the English countryside! I can’t believe it has been five years! I read it cover to cover!! Have a beautiful day!! I hope next time you are at Apple Farm I will see you there!! Apple Butter and potato pancakes anyone?🦋❤️🌻Love Karen B. South Bay California Friend🌞🏖

  12. Fran Vella says:

    Susan,
I absolutely love the art for the Martha’s Vineyard Mug and I hope that you will definitely have it produced. I was lucky enough to get my order in for one of the mugs you’ll be shipping soon and look forward to receiving it. Plan to be in New England mid-June. Any book signings in the area? I keep missing you as I am on the West Coast when you are at home and you were in California when I was in Hawaii. Would love to get you up to our independent bookstore in Palo Alto some day. Thanks for your wonderful books (and mugs)!

    • sbranch says:

June 7th on the Cape? I’ll be at Titcombs Bookshop! Thank you Fran!

      • Fran Vella says:

Don’t arrive until June 10th. Will be on Nantucket until the 19th. Any signings on MV?

      • Grace from Barnstable says:

Titcomb’s on the 7th?! Well Happy Birthday to me! My favorite author in my favorite bookstore at my favorite spot on my favorite day…be still my heart. Next thing I know, you will be telling us when they start filming! (still have my fingers crossed for that…any news?) Looks like I’ll be adding an appointment to my—yes—favorite calendar.

        • sbranch says:

No news yet! It’s still the good part! I’ll see you at Titcombs, Grace . . . it’s from 1-3!

  13. Maggie Halford says:

Oh my goodness!!!…You remind me how homesick I truly am . I am English. I have been in the USA for over 40 years and I want to go home. I go back and forth on it for various reasons, not the least of which is financial. When I read this blog…when I read your lovely book that I bought a while ago I am absolutely sure that somehow, some day…and not too far away of a some day… I MUST go home. And know what? When I do I’m going on the Queen Mary. Thank you for your wonderful books and blog.

    • sbranch says:

I say go if you can! You make tears in my eyes! I’m homesick for it and I wasn’t even born there! And Yes, if you go on the Queen Mary you can take LOTS of stuff with you. We’ll miss you, but home is where your heart is!

      • Maggie Halford says:

Thank you. And yes it is. And my heart never left England though the rest of me did. .

  14. Jane Townsend says:

I remember your visit over here so well. I was still teaching (retired now) and I used to sneak a peak at your blog and twitter updates during breaks and lunch hours – should really have been lesson preparing and marking!!
I don’t know if you remember but I was teaching my class about diary writing as part of the Literacy program and I used your blog as an example of modern day diaries. You very kindly left an encouraging comment for my class.
Loving the new designs for your range of china and can’t wait for my mug to be delivered.

  15. Debbie Boerger says:

I had just began to tell you about your inspiration to book another trip to England next May. It’s done. Just as I was telling you about staying with Carrie and Stuart, my post just went “Poof”. This time, I’m assuming I’m persona non grata. I see it is happening all over the blog.

    Will try later

    Debbie in Tampa

    • sbranch says:

I read your post about staying with Carrie and Stuart and answered it too . . . is it gone?

    • Vicki says:

I just sent a comment and it disappeared. Oh dear…

Generally, Susan, when we leave a comment, it immediately shows our comment but as ‘awaiting moderation’.

This time, I hit the ‘post comment’ and my comment flew away. And right now, same thing as has been happening over the days, my name comes up as someone else, Deborah O’Brien, but the worse is that it also shows someone’s private email address. I’ll put in my correct name again and see what happens.

I’m not trying to be a crybaby; but you’d said you’d like to know what’s happening on our end!

      • sbranch says:

Is the one below, the one that disappeared, or was it another one Vicki? And, you are not a crybaby! I appreciate your help!

        Is this the missing one?
Computer report: My name came up as me just now, but not how I usually sign here, so I corrected it; see what happens. Thanks for getting your computer guy to work on this; has been kinda troubling, last two posts of yours, since you otherwise always make commenting so easy! Computers make life easier in so many ways but it’s all still so prone to glitches.

I can’t even tell you how much I want hanging plates with your art and words or, as you suggested, to share a plate with a cuppa & cookie. Ecstatic that you’re designing this stuff again, as I missed out on the first go’round (like that gorgeous cake plate you found in the Arroyo G. shed and it got bought like hotcakes these few years later). Another Susan B. girlfriend I ran into lately said that she was at your Arroyo G. store, back in the day, and actually bought furniture there…chairs for her garden which held up well for a really long time (wood). I would have gone nuts/over-the-moon-crazy in your brick & mortar store.

Thanks for the awesomely-beautiful photos of the English countryside; I haven’t seen it for so long, like 40 years…with younger eyes and less knowledge about it. I don’t know if I can ever get back there again but a girl can dream (and live vicariously through S. Branch photography!).

Happy Anniversary and, by the way, I can’t get out of my mind what you went through with that Pepperidge Farm thing (last post). I’m so glad you took them on. You must have felt so empowered afterward, especially with the Master of The White Space declaration. I had always wanted to write a book and wondered when, in the ‘olden’ days, sending in a manuscript…probably something I’d type myself…if somebody could say they never received it, then steal my words (my baby, my book, my story!) once it was out of my hands; what would be the protection, even today? Unless you had an agent behind you, and what agent is going to take on a fledgling writer? (Not!) I guess, being a no-name, an option is to self-publish if you can afford it; I know of someone who did it and their little book is on Amazon now (has sold a few copies; not a lot). But unless Amazon decides to highlight you in some way, you’re just one book in millions listed there…seems so daunting, when I know authors of the past have said that they merely sent in a first, sometimes PENCILED(!!) draft to a book publisher, cold turkey, and got picked up.

I think that’s what bugs me today, with these movie stars or celebutantes, who decide to put out a book and of course get right ‘in there’ with a publisher because their name/fame will sell a book, even if the book is crap (unlike Susan Branch, who has ABILITY/pathos/skill/etc.). Must be like the singer-songwriters who are so gifted but never get in the door. Their music is everything to them, and they’ll stay true to it. A serious thing. How must they feel when some fashion model or actress-of-the-moment will say, ‘hmmm, maybe I’d like to put out a record album now’ when…again…she’s got money, the name, but no singing talent whatsoever; incredibly self-indulgent. When there are tons of great singers out there who can’t seem to get any further than singing at somebody’s wedding. But that’s our pop culture for you. (Wow, guess I’m venting!)

        • Vicki says:

Well, I’m losing track now of what comments I left on which posts but those are definitely my words (my lengthy words!). I’m sure you’ll get this all figured out soon; what a headache for you! It’s left us readers in a tizzy because it’s so abnormal for this blog (speaking for myself, the tizzy part…).

          • Vicki says:

Okay, this is a break-through; first time this has happened in several days. It took my comment right away, with the right name and email address and immediately popped up as awaiting moderation just as I’d hit ‘post comment’ so NOW we’re getting somewhere; maybe it’s back on track…fingers crossed…

  16. Debbie Boerger says:

The “ether” has eaten my 2 attempts today to post. Now I see Maggie’s name and email address in the boxes below.

    Que the eerie music!

    Debbie in Tampa

    • sbranch says:

I just put up one post of yours, Debbie, and it had your name on it, and this one does too . . . I’m trying to see if I’m seeing what you are seeing . . .

    • Kathy Hughes says:

Debbie Boerger, hope it’s okay to reply to one of the comments. As I was writing a comment to Susan yesterday, I noticed the same thing—-another person’s name and email address. I just deleted them and put mine as I will do in a minute. When I checked later, my comment had posted. Hope that suggestion helps! 🙂

  17. Susan says:

Would you also be able to make a tiny tea bag dish like the one you are making for the tea cup & a cookie? I’d love to place my used tea bag on such a lovely tiny plate. The Martha’s Vineyard teacup would be so lovely too! Thank you!

  18. Beth Wilson says:

Oh dear, I want a California mug too!

  19. pat addison (cave junction, OR) says:

Good morning and Happy Anniversary Susan, Girlfriends. I remember that trip… I got soaked pulling someone out of the river 🙂 !!! it is a lovely day here, have the clothesline up and the laundry hanging, just hope I don’t have to try to get all that laundry back inside if the thunderstorms pop up, hopefully they will be later on towards evening. I love that Martha’s Vineyard mug, very pretty shades of blue. but I am still waiting to see your Fall mug ( or mugs)!!! hopefully the turkeys will leave my laundry alone and stop dragging it off the line and in the dirt. lots of things happening here for the weekend, a pet parade this Saturday at the park, and if the weather stays good lots of yard work ahead to clear out the fallen branches from all the rain and wind storms lately. lots of firewood there for next winter. the barnyard is quiet and somewhat peaceful today so far, the ducks are not chasing Reuben around, wonder what is going on with that??? I can’t believe Reuben finally has learned his lesson, but then maybe he has… we will see…. LOL!!! oh before I forget, the cats enjoyed their outing to the ice cream parlor, not every day you see 5 cats in harnesses and on leashes and behaving. they each got a tiny dish of vanilla ice cream for being good kitties. and yes I know they are very much loved and spoiled, but only with love. you never saw such happy kitties when their ice cream bowls came out for them. 5 tails up and 5 cats lapping up their ice cream… too cute!!! 🙂 have a great day today, love much, laugh often and live well… hugs everyone… 🙂

    • Susan Iyer says:

Trying a 4th time to post & hope this one sticks, but I also hope you don’t get 4 posts from me! I get Pat Addison’s name in my autofill. The Martha’s Vineyard teacup is lovely. Could you also do a tea bag caddy using the same verse as the one for the plate? Such a happy post!

    • pat addison (cave junction, OR) says:

Not sure why, but Pat, I get your name in my autofill & all my posts go ‘poof’ unless suddenly, Susan Branch gets 4 of them from me at once! When I tried to write before, I got Maggie Halford’s name in my autofill. Just wanted to say agree with you about the Vineyard cup and could a small tea bag caddy be made using the verse on the larger plate? I really enjoyed Susan’s lovely, happy post :). Thank you! Susan Iyer

      • pat addison (cave junction, OR) says:

quite all right I think Susan needs a gremlin hunter to go into her computer system and find that gremlin and kick it out once and for all.

THANK YOU for this blog! I just discovered it (how is that?) though I’ve been a longtime fan. I have a lot of catching up to do, Haha! Guess I’ll just get cozy. Twisted my arm.  You are such a special soul and I adore your art, your photos, your words and just your wonderful, unique spin on life. I feel a sense of kindred spirits here and it’s comforting to know of and to read about “girlfriends” who are on the same wavelength as me. I have a tendency to look at things through a Susan Branch “lens”. LOL Keep on keepin’ on, Susan! You are a national treasure.

    • sbranch says:

Thank you Nicole, I’m thinking I’ve seen this post before, perhaps your other one seemed to disappear? We have a gremlin here confusing things, I’m so sorry! But in case you don’t see the other one, along with my comment, I’m including this, with a great big THANK YOU. xoxo

  21. Ah! A little oasis of bliss and a trip down Memory Lane ~~~ balm for the soul!

    Happy Anniversary ~

I tried to post, but it came up with Maggie Halford’s name & email address, so I’m trying again :). If it’s possible to make a tiny tea bag caddy that includes that lovely verse, it would be great to have one. The Martha’s Vineyard mug is gorgeous. Loved this happy post :).

  23. susan says:

Would love to have a tea bag caddy just like the picture you show for the plate! And the Martha’s Vineyard tea cup is delightful. My previous 2 posts went ‘poof’. I also have Pat Addison’s name in my autofill. Thanks for a happy post :).

I know, about the publishing business, there’s just no rhyme nor reason to “how it’s done.” People have asked me how to do it, there’s no right answer to that ~ I wrote about it in Isle of Dreams, but the way I did it was only one in probably a million different ways people have made it happen! But also, with the celebrity part, it is so expensive to publish books these days, they don’t take chances anymore, and now that Joe and I do it for ourselves, I understand why. We are small and don’t have the overhead the big publishers do, such as offices on 5th Avenue and editors making $100,000 a year! These huge publishing companies have been here for generations and carry such baggage and history, it must be really hard, and very sad as we lose them one by one.

Happy Anniversary of a Magical Time, of a Dream Come True, and of the Seeds of A Fine Romance. You two know how to enjoy life. Just one question…..”How did you travel the countryside with all that luggage? British cars are not big!

Love the new design for a Martha’s Vineyard mug. Great idea! It’s as charming as all you do, and will be extra special. Love the teapot dish too. 😉

My sweet friend Patricia lives in upstate NY, but has a trip to the Cape in May. She is going to miss your book signing in Sandwich by a day or so. She is understandably disappointed. I still pinch myself in disbelief that I had the honor of seeing you twice. I’m so glad you selected Austin as a stop on your cross country tour, and thrilled that I had the good fortune to make the trip to the Cape for the Beatrix Potter Birthday Celebration.

Yes, definitely something erie going on with comments. As I was typing mine, someone else’s name and information appeared in the section below. I had to delete and write in my info. Oh the mysteries!

    • sbranch says:

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. We had a Volvo station wagon! Which is taking your life in your hands on those narrow roads. I would have been happy if that car was about 5 inches skinnier. (And while I’m at the wishing well, I wish the same thing for me!). At least, being a Volvo, we knew if we got hit, we would likely be okay! Both events you mentioned were wonderful. Course they all are, and it’s because of our Girlfriends and kindred spirits that come! Thank you for deleting and adding in, Sarah!

  29. Diane Hunter says:

    Susan

Are you mugs going to be on sale anywhere in the U.K.?

    • sbranch says:

Not yet, but I’m trying! Seems crazy to ship them all the way over, and then all the way back, and it costs an arm and a leg! Need to find a way to offer them in the UK!

Love remembering “our” trip and the creative processes it led to, Susan! Think what has happened for you (and for us) in that five years!! Congratulations and I know the best is still to come. Can’t wait to see the new mugs and cookie plates!

    PS
Always my name and email pop up when I’m writing a new comment. Today, someone else’s was there so I changed it. I think your tech guy has more work to do.

    • sbranch says:

He’s been trying, but it’s a conundrum! Sorry Patty, thank you for changing the name!

      • Patty in Redlands says:

Today, Saturday morning, everything is back in my name. Yesterday it wasn’t. So maybe your Gary’s magic and talent has it fixed for good. Fingers crossed!

  36. Melissa Myers says:

Oh what a treat that was! Happy anniversary! 4 years! Golly time flies when we’re having fun. I recently re-watched the movie Miss Potter and enjoyed it and thought of you there. Highly recommend it Girlfriends. Love the new MV mug. It’s a winner.

  37. Susan Cohen, in NJ says:

Love your cups!!! Especially the Martha’s Vineyard one! Oh, and your lovely “Outlanderish” shawl! 😀💓

  38. jeanie says:

Thanks for the lovely walk through one of my favorite countries in all the world! In fact, just this morning I ordered (yet another) copy of “A Fine Romance” for a birthday gift. OK, the sad, humiliating fact. My friend has wanted to borrow mine for awhile and I just can’t bear to let it out of my house! I figured she should have her own and mine will be safe where I won’t have to worry about spills or chills or (gasp!) forgetting to return it!

And I love the Vineyard mug. My visit there last summer remains like a dream in my heart. I’ll have to check your shop and see if this one is going to be in your inventory.

Oh, it’s rainy and gloomy here. I’m recovering from surgery and feeling just the slightest bit low. Or was, until I opened this! Thank you!

    • sbranch says:

Feel better Jeanie! Sending get well love. I understand about the loaning of the book! I have some I feel like that with!

  39. Sharon Maier says:

You make it almost better than being there…but one day I’ll get there myself. In the meantime, I can always reread your wonderful diary of that trip — it’s just the best. Thank you again…

  40. Cathy Britvich says:

Oh please, Please, PLEASE do the Martha’s Vineyard cup. My first time on the island I fell in love with Martha’s Vineyard. I so wanted to live there. Although that was 25 years ago, and not to be, I still have a map of the island on my wall in California. In a bookstore on the island, I also fell in love with your book the Heart of the Home. Even though I like small cups, I will make your Martha’s Vineyard cup my #1 cup. 💖💟💞 PS Happy 30th Anniversary.🎉

  41. Linda B says:

Thoroughly enjoyed the new book. Made my ❤️ Smile. Your writing is heartwarming and art is SO charming. Went to England last year but now have a desired to go again but at a slower pace. Thanks for sharing. LB

Yet another rainy day in Greece, NY (and to think last year we were concerned b/c it was so dry!) so your cheery blog entry came just in time. Actually, in quite the coincidence, I’m making some greeting cards using your Garden Rubber Stamp set! Thanks so much for the pick-me-up!! ♥ Alice

  44. Patty in SLO says:

Thank you for designing the Martha’s Vineyard cup just for me! I’m quite positive you did because today is my birthday and I’m definitely going to need to buy one for myself ! And also one for my dear one and only sister – she and I had our first Girls Vacation on your lovely island last summer and we are headed back in September for round two. Hope we will have our cups in hand!! 😘

Oh Susan, what a trip it was! Thank you to you and Joe for kindly taking us along with you to jolly England. It was a pleasure to experience England through and with your eyes!
I like the new mug design(s) and the tea plate. When may we pre-order them? Take care and enjoy Springtime!

    • sbranch says:

Yes, Karen, preorder will happen next month if all goes well! Thank you for asking! Happy spring!

  53. Hi Susan, My husband’s Godmother sent me A Fine Romance last summer while I was recovering from breast cancer surgery. It was the perfect read! I am fully recovered now, and guess what, my family and I are going to England next month, to the Cotswolds and London, for two weeks! I am so excited, as I have never been. I used your wonderful book to help plan the trip, too! Happy Spring!

    Chris Corrigan

  54. Bonnie Crawford says:

    Hi Sue B!!
I just can’t believe it has been five years already since you and Joe sailed for England! 🚢
A Fine Romance is still one of my number one favorite books!! ❤️👍🏻 I’m loving your new mugs, and the darling tea plate too!! 💕 It’s fun that you’re loving blue now, but you’re the one that got me totally hooked on loving red, LOL!! It is still my ‘happy color’ for sure…❣️ When we lived in Portland Oregon for 25 years, our house had blue everywhere, so it was so refreshing when I switched much of it to red!! ❤️ 😁 I display my Liberty Blue dishes though, so I still love having splashes of blue here and there …
You are always such an inspiration to me Sue , so thank you for sharing your love of creativity, to not only me, but the whole world! 🌎
    Love you Sue!! ❌⭕️❤️🥀❣️

    • sbranch says:

We probably both have enough of blue AND red around our houses to redecorate in either color! This year, I’m saving red for Fall and Christmas . . . I wasn’t home at all last year, so my nesting instincts are way over the top right now. I stare at each blade of grass coming up! No banana peel goes into the trash, they are all buried at the bottoms of the rose bushes. Someone lays something on the beautifully clean kitchen table, out it goes! I’m crazy! Nice to hear from you Bon-Bon!😘

  55. Grand Pam says:

What sweet memories, I have enjoyed every moment. Loved that cookie plate, I am saving up to get one. I marvel at all your talents. Love each post.

  56. Ritchie Saunders says:

Hi, I sent a message from my i-phone in the car but don’t see it so will send another. Just wondering if you know if the Mugs will be sent out in time for Mothers Day. I ordered 4 and want to give one to my Daughter and to each of my Daughter-in-Laws. No problem just want to be able to let them know a gift is coming. Love your new plate and mug ideas too. Christmas is coming !!
You are amazing! Glad you had a great time in the Central Coast. We love it up there going in August to the last Central Coast Wine Auction in San Luis. It has supported many charities in that area but the gentleman Archie McLaren who has organized it is turning 75 and giving it up. We stay in Pismo Beach.
Have a wonderful Summer – my daughter who lives outside Boston goes to scrapbooking classes at a B&B not too far from you. Cheers! Ritchie

    • sbranch says:

We are trying, it’s going to be so close! We are totally ready, the MOMENT they show up, they will start going out! Fingers are crossed!

I was in England at exactly the same time 5 years ago on an English Gardens Tour and visited some of the very same places. I am also reminiscing about every moment.

Yes, it was a fun trip!

  62. Kathy says:

I love the mug! We are visiting Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod, and Nantucket in early June. Was so excited to see that you will be at a bookshop on the Cape at that time. We will be in Provincetown. If we can manage it, it would be a thrill to meet you! So looking forward to visiting your home; you describe it so beautifully.

  63. Nancy Newsom says:

Loved A Fine Romance which arrived just in time for our Cotswolds trip in March, thanks to your wonderful staff! A few days after we came home, we were ready to go back! Haven’t been to Devon or Cornwall, so that’s a must! And thank you for introducing me to Emma Bridgewater, I bought 2 mugs in Burford. Your blogs are like a visit with an old friend, ty!☺️

    • sbranch says:

There are SO many places. It’s crazy how so much history can be stuffed into one little gorgeous green and pleasant land! Happy to have you here Nancy!

  64. Nancy in Colorado says:

Love, Love, Love your books and most especially “A Fine Romance”. We have traveled to the UK many times and love every part! So much more to see and do- the next trip is a walking journey through Cornwall in 2018. We look forward to doing the Queen Mary crossing sometime as well. I am working on a watercolor diary of our walking trip to Spain and the Camino de Santiago that we did last fall. You are a wonderful inspiration! Thank you for sharing your gifts with us!
    Mugs too! Yay!!

    • sbranch says:

Walking journey, to me that is the PERFECT way to see England. The villages are not far apart, and are made for what you want to do. Just a wonderful way to go. xoxo

  65. Mary Fasold says:

Happy spring, Susan!!! Thrilled to see all the wonderful new things you’re making ! Will be forever grateful for the way you show the world how to find beauty and joy in everything ! Perhaps, you can help me out.Several blogs ago you mentioned a channel that you subscribe to that offers English productions to rival …but not replace…Downton Abby. Would you be able to let me know how to access that source? Summer’s on the way…and there’s not much to look forward to once Call the Midwife and Home Fires are on hiatus.Thank you so much…..and have a wonderful summer!

    • sbranch says:

Yes, it’s called Acorn…we get it with our Roku, the same place we get NetFlix, and the first thing to watch on Acorn is A Place to Call Home. You’ll love it! Happy summer!

  66. Donna Hardin says:

I am just rereading A Fine Romance. (Already reread the other two…just as good the second time around!). Oh my…they cups and cookie/tea sandwich plate…a must have! I think I will request it for a birthday present for Monday…it will be fun to wait for it! Keep up the lovely work!

  67. Frances Fowler says:

I dream of England! And, not having stopped reading Winston Graham’s Poldark series since I started them in January, am also dreaming of Poldark in that way you do when you become so engrossed in something that it’s a normal part of your free night time movies! I know I will have major withdrawal because I feel Ross, Demelza, (“and the gang”, lol) have just become real and part of my soul! I’m on book eleven, “The Twisted Sword”, and will go straight to the last, “Bella Poldark” with sadness, knowing it’s the last. So when I do get to England, I must walk those Cornish cliffs! I keep your trilogy with my bedside books and love to go through “A Fine Romance” again and again. Sigh. Dream 🙂

  68. Kim Cook says:

I will be re-reading this book between now and September and taking notes. My husband and I are going to England, Wales and Scotland and we are so excited. Will bring my notes from your book and take along my journal to capture my own adventure. Love all your books!

  69. Shannon says:

Uh-oh, someone else’s name is already in “name” and “email” section of comment form…that’s happened the last few times I’ve posted so I guess the gremlins are still at work.I just delete the name, add my own, hit post comment and hope for the best! Anyway, yesterday marked a lovely anniversary for me too…one year ago, on May 3 in New Hope PA, hubby and I attended a tea and book signing for “A Fine Romance”. It was the second time I’d met you…the first was at the FOGT reunion in CT in June 2014. Both were such lovely, lovely events, and I treasure the books and tea tin you signed for me. Fun, fun times. As for a Martha’s Vineyard mug…yes, yes please! I’m so excited for the first ones to arrive! I. Thinking if they got to CA yesterday, maybe, just maybe, my shipment will have made its way east by the first of next week…fingers crossed! Hugs❤️

    • sbranch says:

Mine too. We were away yesterday, I didn’t hear that they came in yet, so maybe on Monday!

  70. Linda Rae says:

Yes, yes to the Martha’s Vineyard mug!!!

  71. Ann Prins says:

The flat teapot plate is so cute and so Susan Branch !! I am still working on my travel journal from our recent trip to Mexico , Central America and Cartagena, Colombia. I have written and illustrated my travel journals for years but this time I added many more watercolor illustrations. Thank you for your inspiration!

  72. Laura B says:

Enjoyed every day of the book and enjoyed the luvlee reminders in today’s post. Happy anniversary and may your next trip to England be soon!

  73. Patti Lyon says:

Thanks for the lovely post on this not-so-lovely day in Ohio. I call ‘dibs’ on going with you the next time. I figure it’s the only way I’ll ever get to jolly old England!

  74. Debbie E. says:

I vote yes to the Martha’s Vineyard cup! Also, yes to any cup/plate combo. I have always loved those plates with room to hold a cup. Makes it easy to carry a snack with your tea! Hope you’re having a lovely May so far.

    • sbranch says:

I’m a mixer and matcher from way back. These little tea plates work perfect with the cups. But they can also hang on the wall (with one of those little wire plate holders), I’m thrilled about them! May is wet here this year. But we have been working to make our lawn better, and Joe just re-seeded, so the rain is appreciated by us!

  75. Karen Schrimpf Saunders says:

OH MY💜💜💜💜💜love that you are getting involved with china….my weakness. It’s going to be all over for me and my husband will divorce me because I’m spending too much money and we have NO place to put anything but can I just say “I CANT HELP MYSELF!!!! Somebody STOP me!!!” I have your teapot and cups and sugar and creamers and your cake stand and top and 4 of your new coffee cups…..need I say more??? Signed ‘hopeless’….😱

    • sbranch says:

LOL, I am you and you are me!!! It’s a nightmare! You should see my scarves! It’s ridiculous, I tell myself that all the time, who needs more than one, but I bought another one yesterday. I hope I wear it!

  76. Sherrill Riley says:

Love Love Love everything you do and how beautifully you describe all the wonderful things in Life!! Please Please live forever!!

  77. Elaine Anne says:

Hello Susan, I can’t believe it’s been five years! I am from England and am extremely happy that you love it as much as I do. I usually go home twice a year, but haven’t been back since 2014 when I sadly lost my youngest son. My husband Joe and I will go over in July to bring back my two grandchildren to spend the summer here with us at the Adirondack Foothills where we live. Devon is where my brother and family and my eldest son and his family live and my sister lives in Yorkshire. We all originally hailed from Warwickshire, Shakespeare’s county. So I absolutely appreciate all you write about England, and everything else you share too. Can’t wait for my cup. Thank you so much. Your biggest fan. xx🇬🇧🙋

    • sbranch says:

I’ve been to and loved both Yorkshire and Warwickshire, and we’re on our way to Devon next year… I’m so sorry to hear about your son. 💔 You live in a beautiful place now too, your grandchildren are lucky to have the experience with you, they’ll never forget it. I’m glad you’re here Elaine!

  78. Lindy says:

Well it must be something in the air!! My computer at work has been on the blink most of the week. Hope it all gets smoothed out by days end. LOVE, love all your pottery / china designs. Please carry on! So nice to take tea and step back down memory lane with you. What a wonderful time “we all” had. It is Tulip Time in Holland Michigan and in spite of a chill, EVEYTHING that can bloom is in full on splendor! Happy Spring and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

    • sbranch says:

Us too, pouring rain, but the tulips are gay and bright and perk everything up and make us believe!

  79. Lin Rader says:

So happy to have a new post! And the pictures….ah…serene and lovely places in which to dream. And your cups are so divine and so different. There are none like them anywhere. And the idea of other china pieces…ah…divine!! I am so in love with tea and tea things that I have been sewing all kinds of different mug rugs. The perfect accompaniment to tea time. They are so cute and many different ways to make them… I am currently doing ones about half size of placemat. Small enough to carry around when needed and has a pocket on side for a napkin. Just right for tea and a scone….and of course your china cup. Kinda fun to make and a break from making large quilts. It is raining here in Michigan but oh how green the rain makes the grass. Lovely! You have been my inspiration to return to journaling and how fun it is again. Already I have enjoyed going back to reread this year and reminisce over all the cute items I have stapled in the pages. Keep on keeping on! We all love ya! XOXO

  80. shelly B says:

Susan, can i just curl up in a chair and observe you making magic? I wont bother you…in fact if you need something, i’ll jump up and get it for you! Haha:) But really, I just fall in love with everything you do. It puts a big smile on my face and extra beat in my heart . I will probably never get to those places but seeing it through your soul is just as good. No matter what is going on in the world, you bring peace and love to it with your gift.
p.s. please don’t retire your cups too soon! They are on my birthday and christmas list! 🙂

    • sbranch says:

About retiring the cups, now is as good a place as any I guess to explain how we’re doing it. First off, as you know, these cups are very expensive for us to buy, plus we have to pay crazy shipping costs to the US. If we sell them all, we’re okay. If we don’t, we have a problem. And if we have any leftover at the end of the year, the IRS taxes us on the ones we haven’t sold, even though we had to pay for them already, and they haven’t sold. Delightful IRS. So we have to be careful. (All of this was learned the hard way!) Which is why we do the presale, so we know how many to order. Then, we’re pretty sure some of our Girlfriends will have missed the presale, so we carefully tack on more. We ended up getting double the number of what we’d originally thought for this first order, thanks to information gathered at the presale. The other thing is that each time we order, the manufacturer has a minimum that we have to order. You can’t just get ten. It’s a big number. So reprinting is hazardous because we think we have gotten one for everyone that wants one on the presale, plus the extra that we order. To reprint, we have to order a whole bunch more, and that’s where the aforementioned scariness comes in! I’m an artist, not a business person, but I’ve had to learn a lot in order to be able to do this, and one thing I finally got through my head was that employees really must be paid, and I DO like to offer them health insurance, and there is rent too, and all the accoutrements of running a business! We actually thought we’d have enough of this first order left over to get us to Christmas with these designs, when all we’d ordered, even the extras, were suddenly all gone, we tried to add onto the order at the last minute, but it was too late. And so, you see the problem! xoxo I hope we get better at this as time goes along!!! Thank you for being here Shelly!

  81. Patty Page says:

I love the Martha’s Vineyard teacup!!! and the cookie plate! I do hope they become a reality. I would love to visit England as you did—maybe someday.

  82. Heartsdesire (Judith Hogan) says:

What a lovely recap of your trip England. I loved it so much, I got out my copy of A Fine Romance and have started to read it again. There is so much I missed the first time. Hope you have another book in the works from your latest trip to England. Love the Martha’s Vineyard cup. This one is a sure winner. As is the tea plate, or anything else you can imagine. Hope you enjoy your day in the garden. It’s lovely here on the south coast of Vancouver Island. Finely sunshine and warm temperatures.

    • sbranch says:

Not us, we have rain, and maybe all week. The main good thing about that is that we just seeded our lawn! And when the sun comes out, poof, we will have grass!

  83. Wendy says:

    Happy anniversary!

  84. Jane says:

Oh, the cookie plate. Could that take less time to process!! Can’t wait for my mug. Your staff made it so easy for me to get it. I am away caring for a daughter in law who just found out she’s fighting stage 4cancer. It will arrive here and I think soon I’m excited 😊 and your people are the best!!! Blessings to you Susan, and 74 is good too. 👩‍🌾

    • sbranch says:

I’m so happy Kellee and Sheri helped you, they are the best. All my best to you and your daughter in law, I’m so sorry. Give her a hug from us. xoxo

  85. Barbara Irvine says:

    Dear Susan,

I loved the trip to England with you, Joe, Petey, and all the Girlfriends! And loved the “Fine Romance” book … I think it’s time to read it again.

Love the Autumn mug and the teapot plate, and the Santa mug, too. And the Martha’s Vinyeard mug! My charge card overfloweth … but I love it all !!

I mowed the lawn today, but was careful to leave the violets. Those and the dandelions are the only flowers the deer don’t eat; well, those and the daffodils, which are gone now. I love the photos you post of the little flowers from your garden, in your little vases on your kitchen windowsill. I have some violets now in a little vase here on my desk, and it is very cheerful.

Wishing you, Joe and Jack a lovely weekend!

    Barb

  86. Shirley Burt says:

Susan, Wet eyes, all the fabulous memories brought forward again. Thank you bunny bunches. MUST reread, your three books are always on display and handy for all friends to see. Your last post about white was delightful. I agree with all you said. And the story about the TRIAL and the verification of your white space expert style. How in the world did you stop yourself from jumping up and hugging that expert.????? Yes, to the cookie plate, to the new blue and white mug, Yes, Yes, Yes, to any and all of your inspirations turned into ceramic or tin. As in your tea tin. We love you, your projects, your trips and narrations, and your books and your most delightful of all Blogs ever.
Happy Spring, Happy writing, Happy Inspirations.
Much love and lots of bunny hugs,
    Shirley

I sat there in a kind of shock and awe. First off, awe, because of who she was, and shock because of what she was saying. Touching her was out of the question! 😮 Her words took months to digest! White space? What white space? 🤣 Bunny hugs right back to you Shirley!

      • Shirley Burt says:

I can understand your reaction. Shock and Awe, of course. How lovely for you and such a memory. We love you and her for recognizing your talent. Just think it is verified in official documents somewhere for all to see. Love and bunny hugs for a lovely day. Shirley.

Oh Susan! The Marthas Vineyard mugs are FANTASTIC!!!! I bet every store on the island will want to sell them. It could become the “official mug” of MV. lol. I am so excited for you! Spring cleaning really cleared your head so that all of your creativity could be released. Thank you for the new post. It made my day! Lots of love, Nina.
P.S. Thanks for more hydrangeas..you’re the best:)

As always Just What We Needed when We Needed it the Mostest! Breathing in & breathing out. What magical Memories for all of us! We fall in love with England and You and Joe and Jack all over again.
Love the Martha’s Vineyard mug! Maybe one of SLO as well? Oohhh and one with the QM2 and the Train!!! A set. With the cup one thing, then the plate another, then……it truly is quite giddily contagious!
As I sit here on this very chilly & windy late afternoon on the Farm in gray & pink polka dotted leggings…chocolate knee socks with pink ruffled tops…a gray n pink stripe long sleeve tee over a hot pink tankie top. I feel quite Pippi Longstockingish today. We even named one of our sweet baby goats Pippi. She has the cutest chocolate & licorice stockings.
By the way…am loving you being on Instagram! And all the sweetness.
I feel quite emotional this late afternoon, so am wrapping myself in virtual love & hugs & sending them out to everyone who needs them. Gracious Sakes Alive…Get ahold of Myself I say! 🙂 Now I’m headed out to get some real hugs
& kisses from those darling baby goats. Thank You for You Sweet Sue!

    • sbranch says:

I’m adding my hugs to your virtual wrapping dear Kat, I understand the emotional part, I’ve been feeling it myself. Your goats are the most amazing little creatures, how wonderful that you have them for the perfect diversion! Kisses ❌⭕️

    Hi…
Thanks for the stroll down memory lane…can it really be 5 yrs?
Love the new dishes and mug designs. Don’t know how you keep up the pace!

The other day I was at my yoga class at a local library. I always look around for new books to read when class is done. There is a section at the back of the one room
that has books that were weeded out or brought in by library users.
I was looking under the cookbook area and to my great suprise…there was
A Susan Branch gift set…the summer cookbook and luminaries set
For the price of $1!!!! Why would anyone give up this item …is my question
It is excellent condition…blue ribbon intact… no messes on the pages anywhere.
Since I have had the book since it was released… now with a signature on my first edition book …I am gifting to my Goddaughter…keeping the luminaries though.
I was so excited because I wanted to get her this book for her Wedding shower this past October and it was so out of print! She is a vegetarian, but she eats eggs and fish…a lot of those type recipes in this book …she is also an amateur artist too. This is a great find…can’t believe my luck…she’ll love this book!
    Have a great week
    Kathie from Limerick

    • sbranch says:

Wow, that was a very old “package” my publisher put together years back, how great you were the one to unearth it! Good find! And perfect for her wedding! You too Kathie, have a great week! xoxo

Dear Susan, Always so happy to see your name on my incoming email list. Love the revisit of your trip. You are so special to me and my daughter, we too would love to go to England. You are such a wonderful photographer to show us what it all looks like.
onight we will watch the last episode of “A Place to Call Home” — I think they are working on Season 5 now. Thanks to you we enjoyed this series very much.
I cannot wait to receive my trio of your cups. I do like the new one you designed for Martha’s Vineyard. And a lover of blue and white, I really like the new look in your kitchen.
The best of wishes to you and Joe and Jack, too.

    • sbranch says:

We can’t wait for the next season! Something fun to look forward to! Thank you Ruth!

By reading the book I got to enjoy your trip twice, once with as you went along and then again with the book. Thank you for sharing with those of us who travel in our armchair.
Keep the blogs coming. Love the musica and each blog is an excuse to set quietly with a cup or tea or a glass of wine and float along wherever you take me.

It all looks so normal from my side . . . very hard to figure this out, but I know Gary is trying.

  97. Debby Rickett says:

Love you Susan! Thank you for the sweet post! “A Fine Romance” was actually the first of your books that I read. I have literally consumed everything I can get my hands on that you have written from that very moment in my life! I know I have told you this before, but you are so INSPIRING! If I’m having a rough day, I can pick up one of your books and immediately, I just feel gratitude.
Love the new cups and little tea pot plate. I will need them 🙂

    • sbranch says:

OH! So sweet, thank you Debby! I LOVED to be inspired, I’ve looked for inspiration everywhere all my life, have loved the people who’ve inspired me, famous ones like Mark Twain and Julia Child, and just the normal people like my landlady I saw getting ready for a dinner party so long ago . . . she didn’t even know how she set my heart of fire . . . so the best thing anyone can say to me is that I’ve inspired them! 💛 Thank you xoxox

  98. Lyndia, Northern Calif. says:

I think I’m in trouble. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE all the new cups. Birds, Santa, Martha’s Vineyard (I’ve never visited) Autumn, each one is so special. Not to mention the darling plate. I’m anxious to get the cups I ordered. The problem, I have a houseful now. What’s a person to do? Wish I could say I’ll just clear out, but all my collection is special and impossible to part with. Hum, maybe a special shelf is the answer. Anyway, good to have you back sharing your life with everyone.

    • sbranch says:

Me too, I love my cups. Some of them I change around for the season, to make sure they all get used sooner or later. Choosing which cup to have my tea in is my first big decision of the day!

  99. Paula Clark says:

What a nice surprise, a new post from you, on such an anniversary of the hearts!! I remember that day too, I had it streaming on my computer as the ship was leaving NY harbor, you had put a link so we wouldn’t miss the ship. I loved you and Joe clinking the champagne glasses in front of you cabin window with NYC in the background. I really was and felt the excitement for you two. You know I think you ought to send Paul a copy of the book, it is such a beautiful book about the land he was born in. I was born on Vancouver Island in Canada, have you ever been to Victoria British Columbia on the island? I only got to go to that part once, but they say it is “very British” there. This made me feel like taking my book out and reading it for the 5th time. I love it! All of them, but have read this one most. I want Pear Cider now, I’m in California, wonder if they sell here? I’m gonna ck. it out 🙂 By the way, your hair looks so, so cute in all these pics. Bye for now, xoxo

    • sbranch says:

So fun that we could all watch the progress of the ship as it was leaving together. Amazing world! Haven’t been to Victoria British Columbia, but it sounds like just my cup of tea! Thank you Paula!

      • Christie Levin says:

Hi Paula! Hi Susan, Pear cider IS in California. I’ve ordered it at the Fox and Goose Pub in Sacramento, and on Sunday I enjoyed a nice cold Peah Cidah at the Fat Rabbit Public House in Folsom. Susan, I think you would enjoy Victoria and tea at the Empress Hotel on the Inner Harbor, and a long walk around the Butchart Gardens or lots of other pretty spots in and around Victoria. Just the cruise there from Seattle on the Victoria Clipper is beautiful.

    • Debbie Boerger says:

Hi, Paula, We’ve been several times to Vancouver Island. Ferry from Washington state. We love, love, love Victoria. We parked our little camper in a marina over near Esquimault (SP?) We had a panoramic view of the The city and the hotel all lit up. Also camped in Pacific Rim National Park. Took the ferries from the NW of the Island and island hopped, camping our way back down to Vancouver city. Indian campground right at the foot of Lions Gate Bridge. We have explored British Colombia several times. Just stunning, great memories.

    • Marianne in Hidden Meadows, SoCal says:

Paula — BevMo carries Pear Cider, both English and Irish.
