Hello from Smallville!

“Hello,” as my dad says, “from Smallville!”  ‘Cause that’s where I live too.  And I like it lit the firehere.  Sometimes the world just seems too big ~ but the bigger it gets, the smaller I get ~ because here in Smallville,  it’s always a nice day. There’s plenty to do in Smallville too … it’s not a boring place.

  Things that don’t count in the big world are EVERYTHING here.  When the world tries to get into Smallville and upset the smallness, I shut it out, turn on the MUSICA (listening to this now), light a fire (hearing it crackle), watch the birds busy at the feeders (peep-peep), and do what needs to be done.

toxic world

doing dishes

Like cleaning shelves. Nothing more common sense than this, sometimes it needs to be done.  I give myself a sense of purpose and accomplishment by getting the cooking juices off yellow glasswaremy shelves with a hot soapy cloth; washing dishes (I wash the ones with gold trim on them by hand) and putting them back on the shelves, shiny and clean.  Standing back and looking at my handiwork and saying, “ahhhh, look at that sparkle!”  I’m always happiest when my corner of the world is clean and organized and a new year for me always includes organization, which my mom says, is the key to success.

doing dishes

Some of the dishes are washed by hand, and these just came out of the dishwasher.

doing dishes

It’s before dawn and my audience is very quiet, just waking up, she pussyfoots around.  No loud applause.  Just purring.

And speaking of organization . . .

address book

The other thing I wanted to share with you is an organizing thing that has turned out to be SO GOOD I had to tell you about it.  I had this old (no longer in print) unused address book lying around, so I grabbed it and turned it into a brand new thing.

address book

It’s now my “Internet Address and Password Log Book.”  Before I thought of this, I had all my notewebsites and passwords written, but not alphabetized, on four pieces of paper (adding more pages all the time) that got limper and more tattered and worn by the day; torn on the fold and messy with additions and pencil smears ~ I would have to “re-do” the whole thing every so often.

watercolor flowers

address book

Now I have a real book I can put everything in. Like here, under C, the phone number and email address for Customer Service at my Studio.

watercolor flowers

address book

It’s a hard-cover book with alphabet tabs that keep everything I need right at my fingertips.

organization

For instance, under M, for Mom, here are all the websites, user names and passwords I need in order to pay my mom’s bills online.  There are copies of her two credit cards, in case I need them. (These pages look a lot better in real life than they do in these photos ~ I didn’t think it would be very smart for me to show the world my passwords so I sort of squiggled them out; I knew you would be proud of me for the quick thinking.)

advice from mom

address book

Under G is my Google Password, and all my contacts with the people at Gladys Taber, my Gmail and Goodreads Passwords too.  Under S, I have web addresses for all the online places I like to Shop, passwords and usernames for shoes and sweaters and art supplies (sometimes I cross-reference and put art supplies under A, or U for Utrecht); under P, I have my Pinterest and Paypal account numbers . . . under C I have my Computer fix-it people, my Credit Card account numbers and contacts, and so on. I can pack this book up and take it with me no matter where I go! Very handy don’t you think? SO much better than my previous way of doing it.

address book

I thought maybe this was something you might want to do. And, just in case you don’t have an old address book lying around . . .

address book

I do!  Two in fact, you can choose! You like yellow?  We have yellow.  You like blue? We have blue!

Both come complete with alphabet tabs . . .

They’re both in full color, binder style, they come with lots of pages. I blow on my fingernails, polish them on my sweater, say to myself, Brilliant!  It makes me feel good to be organized.

address books

And if you like it too, I have something for you!

A new drawing for these two “Internet Address Books,” one for our lucky winner, and one for the lucky winner to give away to her lucky friend! All you have to do is leave a comment and you’ll be entered into the drawing.  (NOTE: If the blog is mailed to you, you might not see a place to leave a comment, go directly to www.162.240.10.175/~susanbs3/susanbranch/, scroll to the bottom of this post, look for the tiny word “Comments” at the very end in tiny grey letters, click there to comment so you’re entered into the drawing.)  Vanna (she’s our virtual in-house Game Girl and “random number generator,” although she would hate to be called this) is on high alert, ready to do her job in a few days, to choose the winner.

So here in Smallville, all is well, even though it’s freezing outside . . .

And everything is coated in this crisp frozen-on snow crust . . .

The wind whistles and the shutters bang and ice crystals grace all our upstairs windows ~

Inside Smallville, it’s 72°, it’s organized (within reason) and as flowery and summer-like as  I need it to be while I paint for our new 2016 calendars.

    Brilliant Idea!! Can’t wait to get started! Thank you for the suggestion!

  2. Lori C says:

    Thank you for the great address book idea!
    I’ve also had a tattered note card (it’s somewhere, I just can’t remember…) that holds my passwords.
    I tend to use the same user names and passwords, much easier to remember but probably not to smart. Will find a book and get organized.
    Thanks Susan!!

  3. Christy R. says:

    Love the address books what a good idea you had.

  4. madddie says:

    organizing….hmmm, where to begin? have a happy new year.

  5. Mary-Agnes from Long Island says:

    I would love to be in Smallville right now! But no, I’m in Megaville—downtown Manhattan, where the snow doesn’t stay white for that long. 😉 But it was nice to get away for a few minutes and see that crackling fire and just dream. Thank you, Susan!

  6. Kathy says:

    Awesome idea! Love the photos of your freshly-washed dishes and glassware, too!

  7. What a great idea Susan. I am getting to the point where I need something like this. I have all my passwords etc., in an old notebook, so I am going to do this. I too like to be organized and clean and have spent the last 6 months doing a recipe book project. It has been an ordeal, but I am almost done organizing 38 years worth of recipes into binders. I love your blog and have been a fan for many years. I recall seeing a picture of your vintage stove in a magazine many years ago and it is similar to the one I have and I thought to myself, see I am not crazy for loving an old stove. One of my daughters was always saying, “Mom, when can we get a normal stove?” and I would say “Never.” I have recently started my own blog and I am endeavoring to make it as warm and cozy as yours is. You are such an inspiration to me. Thanks for the chance to win a couple of your address books. The yellow one is my favorite!

    • sbranch says:

      Fantastic. Six months to provide a “forever!” Good for you Vicki! Nothing speaks of family love over the generations than some of the recipes passed down!

  8. Winnie Nielsen says:

    Good Morning Susan in Smallville! I think we all have our own way to retreat to a Smallville when our lives just get so hectic. I know I do and like you, it always includes some cleaning up and creating order. When things are neat, my mind feels less cluttered and scattered. Your address books are a great idea and of course who wouldn’t want one with your lovely and fun artwork!! I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Any chance there will be a pot of soup simmering on your stove for the perfect Smallville lunch on a cold January day?

  9. Kim DeMichele says:

    Love your address books and your wonderful idea for the passwords!!! I have many pieces of paper taped all around my computer desk with this info. Your book is the answer!!! Thankyou, Kim DeMichele, Dublin, OH

  10. Patricia Gurski says:

    Brilliant idea! As always, thank you for the inspiration and good cheer you provide.
    Kind regards,
    Patricia

  11. Ann Edwards says:

    I still use the out of print address book, and it is beautiful! I would love a new one, though.

  12. Rhonda P in Woodson, TX says:

    Love, love, love getting to work and finding a new post on your blog! With a give-a-way too, what a bonus! Thanks for always brightening my day.

  13. Mary Brehm says:

    Hello Susan. I’m nestled into Smallville as well! I have the same exact tattered and torn pieces of paper with my passwords on them as well. What a great idea! My family gave me your sweet little yellow address book for Christmas last year and I had so much fun filling it in. Another one would be so handy, so, please add my name to the hat. It’s blistering cold here in upstate NY. Right now I’m watching the Juncos hopping around under my feeder. I just love them they are so sweet. I have three bunnies that are constantly skittering around under my feeders as well. I feel so bad for them and wonder how they stay warm. I had quite a bit of apples in a big bag in my garage left over from thanksgiving, so I brought them in, peeled them up and made a crisp, a pie and some applesauce ( I felt very accomplished and frugal). I brought all of the peels and cores outside and plopped them around for the poor bunnies. I think they liked them! Stay warm in your sweet little smallville and thanks for the fun! Mary B <3

  14. Mary Jane says:

    Hello Susan,
    Yes, organization makes time for other things. If I am not looking for something I can’t find because it does not have a “home”, I have time for tea and scones and a sit by the fire with a great book.

    I love to wash dishes. I do my best thinking when my hands are in sudsy fragrant water. (I use lavender scented dish soap.) Seeing all of the clean dishes gives a sense of purpose and satisfaction.

    Have a happy day!
    Mary Jane

  15. I’m in the organizing mood, too! So, sign me up for a chance to win your address books. I have my passwords in a small day-time book already, but yours is MUCH cuter! One of my goals for this year is to clean out all my drawers and closets. Do you have a cute idea for that? I have a feeling I’m going to need lots of encouragement and motivation. ♡

    • sbranch says:

      Not cute, but just the same old way of things, one drawer at a time. Pick an hour, like 11 am each day, and go do one drawer. If you make the big job into a smaller thing, it’s not so hard.

  16. shirley burt says:

    Oh my goodness, you are a very clever girl. An organized password book, what a smart thing. Yes, yes, and I will share if I become lucky enough to win. On this very cold day in Aledo, Texas, washing dishes and making them shine, sounds like a lovely thing to do. Holding the treasures, dipping them in the hot sudsy water, cleaning their shelves and making the glass doors sparkle, you have inspired me. That is how I am going to spend my day. Thank you. I forget how happy it makes me to do that chore, that turns into a pleasure.
    Thank you sweet Susan, once again you are an inspiration
    I will be all ready for Valentine’s Day.
    Love and bunny hugs,
    Shirley

  17. Toni Hill says:

    thank you for the little bursts of joy you add to my days!

  18. Susan in TX says:

    What a wonderful idea! Some of my passwords have changed a dozen times in the last year because I can’t ever remember them. This seems like the perfect solution. 🙂

  19. Christel says:

    Hi Susan,
    I just wanted to thank you for all the love you spread. I’m facing a really really hard challenge (just learned after our 4th failed IVF that for some reasons we won’t be able to conceive, we’ll grow old only the two of us) and you’ve been of great help! Reading you is like eating a bowl of ice cream…sweet, conforting and so delicious (and somewhere addictive!). So thank you for taking the time to share a little piece of you with the world! I’m sure you’re an inspiration to many! =)
    Love!

    • sbranch says:

      I’m so sorry, that is terrible news and a terrible loss after you tried so hard. You probably don’t even want to be cheered up right now, but don’t forget what a big wide wonderful world full of possibilities it really is. And speaking from the far extreme of vast experience, even “growing old only the two of us” can be wonderful! It’s all in the eye of the beholder. But remember, it NEVER has to be that way. Not in this world where all we need is Love.

  20. Julia says:

    Great idea!

  21. Arlene Siepel says:

    I’ve been accused of living on Sugar Plum mountain sometimes, Smallville suits me fine. Love the address book idea! THANKS:)

  22. Andrea McVety says:

    Love that idea. I get close to tears when I can’t find a password! Thanks for sharing xo

  23. Debbie R. says:

    Redoing my address book is on my list for this year! Would love to have fun writing all my addresses in “Susan Branch style”

  24. Vicki says:

    I have the blue address book and use it every holiday. Birthdays are marked on the 2015 Susan Branch calendar . I love snail mail and sending cards. It’s amazing how happy people are to find a surprise in the mail box and such a simple thing to do. Remember how fun it was to make a Valentine box for the cards you’d receive
    in grade school. The world definitely needs more love.

  25. Carol Clark says:

    Love your organization at Smallville. Will do the same in my neck of the woods…here in snowy western PA

  26. AngieTink says:

  27. Sharon says:

    I could really use those address books, Susan! I am as disorganized as you can get— sadly.

  28. Shannon (Pennsylvania) says:

    Good morning from Smallville, PA. I love it here. On the way to the kitchen this morning I paused to flip on the TV to one of the network morning news shows. After a couple minutes I turned it off, poured my Emma zinnia mug full of coffee, and joined my hubby out on our slightly chilly sun porch to work on a puzzle of flowers and birds and bird feeders. Next I’m going to sort through the big deep drawers in my end tables and organize the medicine cabinet in the bathroom. After that I’m going to make a big pot of split pea and ham soup to take to our church. Once a month we prepare a meal for those in the community who may be in need and would like to come, and this month it’s six different kinds of soup. Thank you for this post. It truly does help us feel centered, helps us remember that what we do in our little corners of Smallville really, really do matter. Hugs

  29. Laura says:

    What a great idea! Better than all the slips of paper I have piled on my desk!

  30. jeannine leonard says:

    I love the new way you used the extra address book. I love being organized. It is good to add the passwords that my girls use, (especially for school subjects and google accts they need) Homework is done on the computer and sent to the teacher these days, and there is study island that they also use. Things are different than when we went to school. We won’t date ourselves….
    I always get inspired when I see your glassware. It just brings such joy to our lives.
    Stay warm it is so cold outside.. we even had a dusting of snow this morning..

  31. Stephanie Haworth says:

    Ohhh my just a lovely blog that I recently discovered!
    What a wonderful idea….can’t wait to get started!!!!
    Stephanie

  32. Darlene Messina says:

    Hi Susan,
    Great idea – and so much cuter than the little black notebooks made for this purpose. Would love to have them.

    Darlene

  33. Isabel says:

    Great idea, Susan. I used to put everything on post-it notes and little pieces of paper and then I could not find the pieces of paper and my passwords.

    I put everything in a plain notebook, but yours is a much more eye-pleasing way to store everything. Would be happy to win an address book.

    The cold made it down to Florida, just for a couple of days. We will go from forty something back up to 77 degrees.

    Wish I was in Smallville. Have a great weekend.

  34. Ann says:

    Such a good idea because of the alphabet tabs. I just put mine in a spiral notebook and have to read every page looking for what I want.

  35. Debby says:

    Dear Susan, I love being organized too, just don’t misplace that valuable thing!!! Debby

  36. Melissa says:

    As I sit here with a kitty curled up purring beside me, I have to agree — having a cat or two is priceless! Especially in winter when they snuggle up and help to keep you warm. 🙂

    On the topic of dishes, this the Melissa from Twitter who tweeted you about buying a set of Johnson Brothers Rose Chintz a few weeks ago. It’s such a simple thing, but every day it makes me smile to eat from those plates and bowls, and to sip tea from the teacups. I don’t even mind washing the dishes when it’s those dishes. They’re so pretty!

  37. Cynthia H says:

    Thanks for the motivation. I love the Smallville idea. When life gets to be too much, I head to my own Smallville, my sewing room. It always helps to create something of beauty tomshare when the world gets ugly. I love your idea with the address book too!
    Stay cozy!

  38. Susan says:

    Love your advice regarding kitty cats!!! Happy Winter!

  39. Linda Jordan says:

    It’s the perfect time for a new address book!

  40. kathy austin says:

    Yes!!! Yellow please~love this idea!!!

  41. Brilliant idea Susan! I usually copy all my passwords into the address section of my diary but hate the frequency that I’m having to rub them out and change them! I’m still copying across into the 2015 ~ little bits and often.

    Love the fireplace and roaring fire we are all cwtched around ~ best budge up a bit I think I hear some more Girlfriends arriving ~ getting the tea kettle on again and topping up the cookie jar, for it is indoor weather today!

    ~~~waving~~~from Across the Pond~~~Debs in Wales xoxo
    • sbranch says:
      Come top off my cookie jar! I think I’ll do that very same thing, and budge up while I’m at it! 🙂
  42. Balisha says:
    Hi Susan,
    First of all…I’m a big fan. Loved your book. I’m sitting here with pneumonia and trying to find things that I feel like doing. I have an address book that I haven’t even opened…a gift from my grand daughter a couple of years ago. You just gave me an idea for something I can do today. Transfer my old book into the new. I’ve had the old one for about 30 yrs….so it’s full of scraps of paper and much outdated.
    Your posts are special to me. I’m 77 yrs old and love coming to the computer and finding a post from you.
    Hugs,
    Balisha
  43. Ardi Butler says:
    Loved the idea and also your “Smallville” thought. Once someone disdainfully said something to the effect “Well, it’s lovely that you’re happy with your little life.” When we thought about it, we were quite happy with a little life. Content.
  44. Debbie Johnson says:
    Good Morning Susan!
    How funny you talked about address books…Mine (actually yours) has a half torn off front cover from all the use it gets. I was going to tape it up but when I read your blog I thought no…New Year, new address book! Going to use your idea for the old one with all the internet stuff. Brilliant! Thank you!!
    Wishing we had some of your Winter weather. Rain would be so lovely.
    Hugs,
    Debbie J
    Torrance, CA
  45. janet gorrell says:
    Hi Susan……cold here in WV, snow on the ground, but warm inside. Love your books and things.
  46. Becky says:
    what a great idea and use fornthe address book. I lost a new change of password just a few days ago because I had not written it down yet. thanks for the sweet description of Smallville. I needed that as well. Becky in cold and windy OK
  47. Leone says:
    What an excellent idea, I have all of mine in a little book but it’s a jumble and it would be great to have the addresses all organized and in alphabetical order. Smallville sounds so cozy!!
  48. Arnette Webb says:
    This is such a good idea!!! I bet this really catches on. I have bits of paper with my info laying around and have to hunt them up when I need them. It would be great to have them all in one place. Your so smart!!! Thanks
  49. Esther P says:
    I had to laugh because I use the paper method, non-alphabetized for my passwords too! It only takes one small idea from one Smallville resident to help us all. Who wouldn’t want to live there ? Happy winter week-end Susan.
  50. Mary Alice says:
    What a great idea Susan. Much better than my scraps of paper. I would love to have one of your address books to organize my unorganized situation.
  51. Shelia says:
    love this idea….need those books!
    Happy New Year! Dont want to take down Christmas Decorations!
  52. Jan says:
    Susan,
    What a great idea! I have a little tiny notebook I keep passwords and such in – but have to look through the whole book to find things. As far as Smallville – I feel the same way. Watching my birds at the feeder, cooking, cleaning, creating (not as much as I would like to), and staying warm. Yes! Have a great weekend!
    Jan
  53. Sophie Trahan says:
    I love your artwork and your address book is simply beautiful! They seem to become rare, nowadays, but I’m still using them (I tend to forget I have a cellphone… and I have much more in my address book than on that modern gadget!).
  54. Marge says:
    Terrific idea! My internet passwords & info are a big jumbled mess! Would be great to win! Thanks.
  55. Jane Plant says:
    What a great idea!
  56. Laurie Walt says:
    Hi Susan! I ve been making things sparkley too. Makes everything look so….Sparkley! I would love an address book to become more organized too. Happy painting! Love.
  57. Claire in Atlanta says:
    I do hope vanna picks me! While that is an awesome idea, some of are still old school address book junkies! Smallville is an enticing idea, cleanining out my sewing room, we’re on the same page!
  58. Sherry says:
    Hi Susan I love your ideas for the address book to organize all those passwords and phone numbers. I have had my old address book since 1974 I bought it when I worked in a hallmark store and it has seen better days. Thank you for the inspiration to make a change and update all that information. Lots of love to you and your family from a smallville on the west coast. sherry
  59. Thelma says:
    I love the address books. Thank you for all the prettiness you add to the world.
  60. Becky A. says:
    Fantastic idea you have! Greetings from Montana where just about everywhere is Smallville.
  61. Liza Kirschner says:
    Love, love and love this idea! And more love for the address book giveaway! Thanks for your beautiful website – it always makes my heart smile!
  62. Sandra Mailey says:
    What a wonderful treat to find a new post on this Frigid Friday!
    The address book idea is superb! I have had ‘organize user names and passwords’ on my list for ages!!
    For some reason this is always one of my favorite times of the year. The craziness of the holiday season is good, but somehow the steadfastness of January is so comforting. I must join the “Organizing Organization” myself. There is certainly enough sorting and polishing needed here to keep me busy – maybe for several winters. And you’re right; it is so very satisfying to look at a shelf filled with sparkling dishes!
    Oh! I also MUST share the excitement of one of my Christmas gifts! I received a real, true Peter Rabbit tea set! Not just a tiny child-sized set, but one large enough to really use! Now I must order some chamomile tea from your web site to go with it. What a treat to sip the very same comforting tea as Peter!
    Okay, I’ll stop now!
    Take care and have a cozy winter weekend!! XOXO
  63. Jillian J says:
    I would love to be more organized in 2015…thank you for the great idea!
  64. Dee says:
    What a great project to complete while bundled up indoors. You would have a good laugh if you saw my scribbled,torn,coffee stained password sheet. What a pretty and organized idea. Your mom is a wise woman who brought up another wise woman. Thanks for sharing with all of us . Happy organized and clean year!!!!!!
  65. Alex =) says:
    Hey Susan from Sunny South Carolina!
    I was JUST thinking about these address books this week!
    I knew we had a *magical* connection. I am going to use mine as a “To Go” notebook and record all of the places I want to visit with my sweet hubby. The plan is to write down the places I soon as I hear or read about them, so I won’t forget. Martha’s Vineyard would be under “M”, of course. = )
    Thank you for sharing. I hope I win!
    P.S. The yellow is my favorite yellow. “Farm Butter” yellow as I like to call it.
    Have a good day. Sending you, the kitties and Joe some warm weather wishes!
  66. Loretta says:
    Great idea – thanks!
  67. Jacquelyn-Las Vegas says:
    I, too, use the “tattered card” system of organization for necessary information and then wonder why I can’t locate something when I need it … A resolution to do something about it is coming! Thanks for the ideas.
    xo
    Jackie
  68. Erin Jones says:
    This book would put a smile on my face every time I had to pull it to out to find a password (which would be 9,345,643 times per day) 🙂
  69. carol brisco says:
    Luv u, luv Vanna…….u make my day.
  70. Elizabeth says:
    What a great idea! I have a tiny book with that sort of information in it but it’s not organized alphabetically so I’m constantly thumbing through the whole thing. I think if I use your method (which I’m sure I will), I’ll use pencil for the passwords as mine seem to change. Crossing out doesn’t look very nice nor very organized.
  71. Beth says:
    WOW! I cannot believe this wonderful post on OrGaNiZiNg…my downfall!
    I wanted to write you the last couple times in this NEW YEAR to ask you to share your strategies for cleaning, purging, sorting, storing…ORGANIZING your home and hearth! I hesitated to disrupt the infectious discussion on DA (What if Mary gets pregnant “out of wedlock” like Sybil and this brings Everyone together??!!!)…so I just went back to staring at my “piles”…ugghhh. How to start and keep up!?? I feel overwhelmed with s-t-u-f-f…even things I LOVE!
    Wish sooo much you would add more each post to this ongoing dilemma of mine!
    The beautiful pictures of your home help me visualize ideas…but I’d but I wonder what your CLOSETS look like??! My husband is afraid to open the doors!
    Maybe other Girlfriends have hints and ideas to share?? Would love to hear!
    Thanks for this peek into Smallville and your creative Encouragement, Susan!
    • Beth says:
      Oops….not poor Sybil (RIP!) but Lady Edith!
    • sbranch says:
      Just one little tip, don’t look at the whole big picture. Just choose a corner, and do that, or your smallest closet. Pull everything out, clean it, have a box for the shoes, big trash bags for the clothes you don’t wear, drag them to the car, and take it to the Salvation Army or the Good Will. Clap your hands together, do a happy dance, be proud, and go do the next one. Baby steps are the answer.
  72. carol brisco says:
    Luv u, luv Vanna……u make my day.
  73. Rosemary says:
    I LOVE-LOVE the address book idea. I also have all kinds of notes written everywhere with websites, internet address, etc – would LOVE to get that organized.
  74. Janet Koester says:
    I love the address books and could sure use one since my information seems to be here and there and needs to be in one place. Such a lovely idea!
  75. Sreekala says:
    Wow, don’t great minds think alike! 🙂 Since phones took over keeping the “address book”, I’ve been using my telephone index for tracking web info!!! Only, now I can’t leave it lying around, but have to keep it safe and secure.
  76. Linda M. says:
    What a great idea!! I would love an address book of yours! Thanks for the chance to win 🙂
    Stay warm and dry!!
  77. Liz says:
    What a fabulous idea! …starts plotting
    On the organizing front, I am taking care of my yarn stash. It’s a little humiliating, especially when I don’t remember buying some of these gorgeous skeins, but I shall press on and start planning this year’s projects when I’m done.
  78. Monique says:
    When life gets frenetic, I often turn to your blog. Reminds me of simpler days & everything can be made better with a warm drink to sip & contemplate what needs to be done. The address books are lovely & mine is torn and muddled almost beyond repair.
    Thank you for making the offer! Stay warm!
  79. Patti Autullo says:
    I have been organizing all this week with the frigid temperatures keeping me inside. It makes me feel good! I also have a new tuxedo kitty to make me smile every day. My password keeper is in a very crowded and unorganized small spiral notebook that has seen better days. Love your idea! Keep warm!
  80. susie says:
    Susan, I wasn’t very well organized when I was a young married girl. Then As the children got older , I became that way. I found that it was less stressful to know who, what, where, when, and how, things were happening. Now as I am older , I less organized again. Yikes, how did that happen ?? But I am working on little things to be more pulled together again. I love your cats so much. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
  81. Kathy in Illinois says:
    I love to be organized, Susan! I would love the address books!! I would keep the yellow one for me and maybe our dog Annie could give the blue one to my daughter for Christmas this year along with your new calendar! I love Smallville!!!
    God bless, Kathy in Illinois
  82. perfection, how I wouldn’t miss the smeared pieces of paper taped under my “Susan Branch” calendar hanging on the cupboard door! I love January organizing, clean up, throw out, and give away time. Helps me face the new year here in my own “smallville.” Thanks for the reminder of what’s sweet and lovely, that’s where my energy will go:)
  83. Angela Jefferies says:
    Love your website, Susan. It cheers and uplifts me, especially in these dark wintry days. I live in the UK, and so enjoyed your pleasure when you visited here the other year; it also gave me an interesting insight into England as viewed through the eyes of someone from another country.
    Keep the wonderful anecdotes, philosophy on life and photographs coming. Thank you!
    • sbranch says:
      You should read the comments about Downton Abbey, a couple of posts back. We love you and your darling countrymen (and women) very much. Because you have an innate charm that permeates your entire country!
  84. Rhonda Christy says:
    Oh to be organized – what would that be like! Great idea!
  85. Jeanneke says:
    Thanks for offering the chance to win such a wonderful notebook!
    If I am allowed to take a chance, since I live far away, in my Frisian ‘Smalville’ in The Netherlands, although that beautiful book would be very welcome and useful overhere, as well :>)
    Greetings from Dokkum in The Netherlands!
    Jeanneke.
  86. Karen P (Wisconsin) says:
    Smallville looks wonderful this morning! I love your Internet Address Book idea! I have been meaning to get organized in that area of my life. I am forever forgetting where I put that info….my very organized hubby gets frequently frustrated with me! I love your Jack Frost window pic! It is VERRRRRYYYYY nippy here today….like in the -30 windchill nippy realm! But, we had snow last night and it looking very pretty with a sunshiny sky! Sending big hugs today! xo
  87. Sheron Fitch says:
    I love this organization idea! By the way–I am rereading “A Fine Romance” and find it as fresh and delightful as when I first read it on our Alaskan Cruise. Thank you for sharing your life and talents!
  88. Christine Perica says:
    Love being organized especially in front of a fire and listening to wonderful music!
  89. Karen Schumacher says:
    What I’ve used for years is a bright green, loose-leaf, 3-ring binder with index tabs and good old-fashioned notebook paper. It continues to serve me well. I’m long-distance caregiver for my parents & use an indigo binder for their medical and purple binder for their financial. Your mom is brilliant! Organization is the key to success – and sanity!
  90. Sandra says:
    I love the idea of an internet address book! My little notebook is getting tattered and tired and I need to redo it! I do love both of your address books and the yellow one especially is gloriously romantic!
    Those ice crystals are beautiful against the window! Isn’t this a marvellous and snug time of the year? I don’t have a fire, but every day I light a beautiful red candle and the flame flickers and warms my heart and soul!
  91. Marina says:
    This whole website is so pretty and your blogposts are soo sweet i could stay here forever, it just feels like home!!!
    Much love 🙂
  92. Terri Mc says:
    The address books are just beautiful ! I have been using index cards filed in a small wooden recipe card box which works fine for home…not so good for traveling. Your address book is a great solution. It would look so pretty sitting on the new desk that Santa brought me, too ! Thanks for the chance to win . I always think that after Christmas is a great time to do some deep cleaning in the house, after the decorations are put away. Even the suds in your sink look cheery!
  93. Ro'se from the cottage in NJ says:
    I came to Susan today and she new what I needed, a Kitty fix!
    We are sad here in NJ, my sister’s cat ‘Tigger’ went to sleep yesterday, and his brother ‘Pooh’, and my sister Carol and her husband Ray are missing their ‘fur kid’. ‘Tigger’ was 10 years old.
    But Susan knows! that’s why she put in a KITTY FIX just for us! Thank you!
  94. Jan Wells says:
    I would love to have everything in one book….what a time saver!
  95. Kathy B says:
    Love the address book idea – – so much better than that little tiny notebook I constantly loose. And…… I am sorely tempted with the kitten thought – – my last dear kitty passed 2 years ago, had her 14 years and she was a sweetie – – may be time to look for another furry little one that needs a loving home.
  96. Susan says:
    Another great idea from Smallville! I have 4 small notebook pages, with my passwords & contacts, too. I write everything in pencil, so that I can erase and change my passwords, every month, or so. When the pages get very faint-looking, I make new pages – not very efficient. I like your idea. It will save me time (and squinting at the faint pencil marks!) Thank you, Susan! Sometimes we just need a little push to change our ways 🙂
  97. Aunt Marti says:
    I have my passwords written on an old postcard. This is a much more elegant solution!
  98. What a great idea!! Thanks!!
  99. Mary L. says:
    Great idea. I have mine written in a composition book, but no alphabet tabs. Your idea is much better. Why didn’t I think of it?
  100. Nellie says:
    Just the thing to do with that Address Book! That may be exactly what I need for organizing here!
    You’ve certainly been busy cleaning those shelves! Girl Kitty appears to be content in her role as supervisor.:)
    Keep warm!
    xo Nellie
