Hello from Smallville!

“Hello,” as my dad says, “from Smallville!”  ‘Cause that’s where I live too.  And I like it lit the firehere.  Sometimes the world just seems too big ~ but the bigger it gets, the smaller I get ~ because here in Smallville,  it’s always a nice day. There’s plenty to do in Smallville too … it’s not a boring place.

Things that don’t count in the big world are EVERYTHING here.  When the world tries to get into Smallville and upset the smallness, I shut it out, turn on the MUSICA (listening to this now), light a fire (hearing it crackle), watch the birds busy at the feeders (peep-peep), and do what needs to be done.

toxic world

doing dishes

Like cleaning shelves. Nothing more common sense than this, sometimes it needs to be done.  I give myself a sense of purpose and accomplishment by getting the cooking juices off yellow glasswaremy shelves with a hot soapy cloth; washing dishes (I wash the ones with gold trim on them by hand) and putting them back on the shelves, shiny and clean.  Standing back and looking at my handiwork and saying, “ahhhh, look at that sparkle!”  I’m always happiest when my corner of the world is clean and organized and a new year for me always includes organization, which my mom says, is the key to success.

doing dishes

Some of the dishes are washed by hand, and these just came out of the dishwasher.

doing dishes

It’s before dawn and my audience is very quiet, just waking up, she pussyfoots around.  No loud applause.  Just purring.

And speaking of organization . . .

address book

The other thing I wanted to share with you is an organizing thing that has turned out to be SO GOOD I had to tell you about it.  I had this old (no longer in print) unused address book lying around, so I grabbed it and turned it into a brand new thing.

address book

It’s now my “Internet Address and Password Log Book.”  Before I thought of this, I had all my notewebsites and passwords written, but not alphabetized, on four pieces of paper (adding more pages all the time) that got limper and more tattered and worn by the day; torn on the fold and messy with additions and pencil smears ~ I would have to “re-do” the whole thing every so often.

watercolor flowers

address book

Now I have a real book I can put everything in. Like here, under C, the phone number and email address for Customer Service at my Studio.

watercolor flowers

address book

It’s a hard-cover book with alphabet tabs that keep everything I need right at my fingertips.

organization

For instance, under M, for Mom, here are all the websites, user names and passwords I need in order to pay my mom’s bills online.  There are copies of her two credit cards, in case I need them. (These pages look a lot better in real life than they do in these photos ~ I didn’t think it would be very smart for me to show the world my passwords so I sort of squiggled them out; I knew you would be proud of me for the quick thinking.)

advice from mom

address book

Under G is my Google Password, and all my contacts with the people at Gladys Taber, my Gmail and Goodreads Passwords too.  Under S, I have web addresses for all the online places I like to Shop, passwords and usernames for shoes and sweaters and art supplies (sometimes I cross-reference and put art supplies under A, or U for Utrecht); under P, I have my Pinterest and Paypal account numbers . . . under C I have my Computer fix-it people, my Credit Card account numbers and contacts, and so on. I can pack this book up and take it with me no matter where I go! Very handy don’t you think? SO much better than my previous way of doing it.

address book

I thought maybe this was something you might want to do. And, just in case you don’t have an old address book lying around . . .

address book

I do!  Two in fact, you can choose! You like yellow?  We have yellow.  You like blue? We have blue!

Both come complete with alphabet tabs . . .

address book

They’re both in full color, binder style, they come with lots of pages. I blow on my fingernails, polish them on my sweater, say to myself, Brilliant!  It makes me feel good to be organized.

address books

And if you like it too, I have something for you!

A new drawing for these two “Internet Address Books,” one for our lucky winner, and one for the lucky winner to give away to her lucky friend! All you have to do is leave a comment and you’ll be entered into the drawing.  (NOTE: If the blog is mailed to you, you might not see a place to leave a comment, go directly to www.162.240.10.175/~susanbs3/susanbranch/, scroll to the bottom of this post, look for the tiny word “Comments” at the very end in tiny grey letters, click there to comment so you’re entered into the drawing.)  Vanna (she’s our virtual in-house Game Girl and “random number generator,” although she would hate to be called this) is on high alert, ready to do her job in a few days, to choose the winner.

So here in Smallville, all is well, even though it’s freezing outside . . .

And everything is coated in this crisp frozen-on snow crust . . .

The wind whistles and the shutters bang and ice crystals grace all our upstairs windows ~

Inside Smallville, it’s 72°, it’s organized (within reason) and as flowery and summer-like as  I need it to be while I paint for our new 2016 calendars.

Wonderful post! Love being organized in a clean house 🙂 I really love that teacup with the pansy painted on the front of it – that is so sweet & English looking – just perfect for afternoon tea! And Jack pictures, and backyard pictures, and, and…. 🙂 Great idea about using your address books. Not just for me but for my mom’s stuff. She came with box and notebooks and paperwork when she moved here with me, and I’m always forgetting which pile I placed so and so in, or what box or book lol Great idea 🙂 I have a spreadsheet for my pwords, but I have other ideas in mind for organizing a new address book for friends. Isn’t it very hard to admit and accept that the one you are using is no longer serving its purpose as it should? I usually do a new one and then save the old one for a few years just in case I missed something ;-)~ Anyway, I actually have one of each of these two address books, so I am wishing for another lucky girlfriend to win the drawing and be as happy to have them as I am!

Stay warm – we are not used to this in central Virginia – drip faucets? here? what??? Oh yeah…but all is well here in Smallville, Virginia, and glad to hear it is by you as well! )))hugs((( ♥ mari

  2. Anita K says:

    Wonderful! Love it! Smallville, too.

  3. Julia says:

What a wonderful idea for all of this “new” stuff that my mind can’t hold.
Love the Mom quote. Everybody, don’t forget to water and feed out
    feathered friends.

  4. Carol Delmonico says:

I think it is so sweet that you make time to pay your Mom’s bills for her. And being long-distance too. You are a lovely daughter!

    Carol

  5. I live in Smallville too, with all of my girlfriends and you, Susan, my next door neighbor… I love this time of year, because I’m such a homebody that the cold and wet weather make me so happy to be stitching away in my cozy house!

What perfect idea with the address book… If Vanna doesn’t choose me, then I need to shop!

  6. Robyn Brown says:

What a great idea on the address book. As I get older I find that I keep forgetting passwords and things. I definitely need to try this. Thanks for the giveaway.

  7. Nancy Shuey says:

Wow, this would be so much easier than using a notebook like I do. Hope I win!

  8. Love, love your blog. Please throw my name in the hat! Thank you!

  9. great idea!!!! Would love to have a “binder book” to get organized (again).
Also love the “get a kitten, just do it” at the end…..I have 3, and they bring joy and giggles every day.
I know you think that you live in “smallsville”, but I have you beat. I live in rural western N.Y. and I love it too!
Have a great day and keep those pictures and blog coming, I do sooooo…look forward to them.

    • sbranch says:

Smallsville is also a state of mind, you can live in New York City, but if you’re tricky enough, you can also be living in Smallsville.

  10. Carol C says:

well, if that isn’t the most brilliant idea! I have sticky notes everywhere–can’t even keep them in one location. This is a MUST DO item for 2015.

  11. Discovered you in Yankee magazine last year…love your art work….recipes…internet address password book…would love yours…but could make one of my own. Thanks for the idea.

  12. Terry C says:

Love this idea, I really need to get organized this year. I am always looking for passwords written on slips of paper and for address’ of family that have moved a couple of times, I always use the old one. Such a waste of time. I need to value my time more and have it all in one spot. Think of all the time I could save for all my books needing my attention :). Priorities, priorities!!!! Love ya, girlfriend!

  13. Carol R. says:

I, too, love getting organized especially at the start of a new year. It makes me feel good to accomplish something early! These days with so many passwords to “remember” it is nice to have them all in one go-to place.

  14. Carol says:

Hi Susan – I am new to your blog. I found you after reading your wonderful new book, Fine Romance! I love your writing and beautiful art work. Your ideas about organization are great – Thanks for the right touch of warmth on this cold winter day!

  15. Susan Taylor says:

Such a organized idea with your passwords. We have ours in a blue notebook and semi alphabetized, but yours is so much prettier. Thanks for posting.

  16. jillian gaumond says:

Awesome idea! Getting organized makes me feel excited and giddy, not sure why! Snow is falling, my baby Willow is sleeping and I’m eating soup getting some writing done while the dryer hums in the background (love that sound). Sending you snow day love!
    -Jillian

    • sbranch says:

“Willow,” I read it in a squeak … that is the cutest name, your baby Willow is sleeping. You too Jillian!

  17. Karen Williams says:

Oh wow! You’ve been cleaning and polishing and putting things in order…great minds think alike! I’ve been cleaning windows, (inside only as its brr cold, but not as cold as you are!) putting Christmas crockery away for later this year, and have washed, pressed and put away my Christmas tea towels and hand towels! Yay! It’s a great feeling!
I love your idea for using the address books for IT addresses and passwords etc. you are a smart cookie!
Thank you for the gorjus pic of tiny kitty…she’s so flipping cute!

In remembrance of the terrible atrocities happening in France…je suis Charlie x x x

  18. Linda Gammon says:

Now why didn’t I think of that? Throw my name in the hat.

  19. Debbie McL says:

Your address book idea is wonderful for internet passwords–you are so clever. I also like to reorganize at the beginning of the year starting with taking our Christmas decorations down. My husband urges me each January to get rid of those “I think much needed empty boxes for something (teehee)” every year! Which I try to do but… empty boxes can come in so handy throughout the year. I certainly do need to reorganize my craft room and your wonderful post gave me motivation Susan! Your glasses and china pieces are just beautiful. I also love living in Smallville as a homemaker where all of these little chores become fun past times for me as I care for our home. I always enjoy your warm and thoughtful posts. Happy New Year Susan…

  20. Nancy says:

What a great idea! I enjoy your blog so much – thanks for brightening my day(s)!

  21. Rhonda Williams says:

My address book is falling apart, my computer info is in disarray and my shelves need to cleaned. Your post today is perfect inspiration to get my act together!

  22. Debra Baker says:

Brilliant tip for internet address book! Thanks.

  23. Laura Jenkins says:

What a wonderful way to begin the New Year…with this organization idea!! My passwords are scribbled on pages, in no order, in a mini-spiral notebook with the word “Passwords” scribbled on it…whether or not I am chosen as the lucky winner, I will put your suggestion into play…love this!

  24. Peggy from PA says:

Now that’ same brilliant idea! I’d love to be that organized. I need help!

  25. Ruthanne Igoe says:

Great idea for organizing all that information. I’ve been using a darling little book with blank pages but without the tabs I am still disorganized and wondering what all my coded messages mean! Not getting a kitty BUT a new little golden retriever puppy will be joining us next month! (Next best thing….!!!)

  26. I’m not showing you my organisation system for computer passwords – your mother would be horrified. So I will never show you, incase you show your mum. I write in code incase I ever loose my passwords. But the problem is I forget my code and am forever re setting passwords. A note book just for codes seems a very practical and pretty solution.

Keep warm over there… it is another beautifully sunny summers day here in New Zealand.

    Love Leanne

Ps don’t put me in the draw as winning twice from you would seem terribly unfair for others. xx

    • sbranch says:

I think we have to leave it up to Vanna! 🙂 Thank you for protecting our eyes from your organizational plan! I should have taken pictures of the side of my printer where there are bits of paper with passwords taped all over it! You would have felt better.

  27. Jeanette in Illinois says:

Thanks, Susan for this generous opportunity!!! I was just thinking, I need a new book and. Voila here it is!!
    Wishing a fabulous New Year!!
    XoXoX,
    Jeanette

  28. Brenda Brady says:

Have used your address books for years. I think I’m on my third one! Would love to have another for organizing passwords, etc. What a great idea.

    Brenda

  29. Good morning Susan, and Happy New Year to you, Joe and the kitties from Smallville (actually Centerville, but we are Smallville too) Utah!… love this post about small places to live… I would not want to live anywhere else, no bright lights and big cities for this Smallville girl… maybe your NEXT new book should be called “Smallville”!… all of your china and cups, etc look so pretty and so does Girl Kitty (hello kitty!)… love your address book idea… and love a chance to win one of those too… wishing you a blissful day… from my “little” place in the country… xoxo… Julie Marie

  30. Lynn Marie says:

Organization is the key to sanity! I could certainly stand to update my tiny bedraggled and dog-eared system. Good Idea. It is sunny here today but bone-chilling cold. I had the Flu this week—ALL week and am slowly coming out of it. It is a doozy this year.

  31. Bambi Willard says:

I love, love, love the address books. The one I have has had A LOT of LOVE. Sure could use a new one AND the idea of using it for passwords is brilliant! My passwords are on a mini notepad hanging by a thread!

  32. Patty P says:

Happy Friday Susan, Greetings from fridgid Wisconsin! It must be wonderful to be organized AND live in Smallville! Getting organized is my plan for 2015. Your binder address book is a good idea, I hope Vanna picks ME! Stay warm & toasty, thanks for posting today.

  33. Brenda says:

What a great idea for keeping track of passwords! I love your blog. Thanks for sharing your artistic life with us all.

  34. Allison says:

From me, a library lady … organizing is a joy indeed!

  35. Edel Mulligan says:

Susan, I’m your biggest Irish fan, I’d love to win the two address books and share one with my best friend Caroline. Happy New Year

  36. Janet Conn says:

Brrr. It is cold here, too, in SW Pennsylvania. Going down to Zero tonight! Time to stay in and keep cozy. Thanks for the wonderful give-a-way. What a great way to be organized. My stuff is currently on a gazillion post-it notes. A terrible way to stay organized. I totally agree with your comments about getting a kitty. I agree so much that I have two, not kittens. I actually missed that adorable stage as mine were strays, but I feel like I have had them forever and can’t imagine not having them. Stay warm. Happy New Year to both you and Joe.

  37. Brenda Bathurst says:

Great idea Susan,my passwords are on scrap pieces of paper in my desk along with things my darling husband shoves in. We are moving the end of January so getting organized is on my priority list.

    Thankyou

    Brenda

    • sbranch says:

au you’re getting up against the clock! Happy move! Remember, the very first thing you do on the day you move in, before you open any boxes, is make the bed with nice clean sheets. Then you’re ready for whatever comes. 🙂

  38. Pat Mofjeld says:

Good idea! I’d love one of your address books! Here’s another idea: I turned one of your “Day Books” into a birthday book. You had a page that could be printed out a while back to record birthdays but I needed more space–like to record year, likes or dislikes, and extra info. It works great but have you thought of making a “Birthday Book”?

    • sbranch says:

I have, just that age-old time thing! DAYS would really work well for that I would think . . . good idea Pat!

  39. Hi Susan! Sending cold, snowy greetings all the way to Smallville! I have written your words on my heart ~ “Things that don’t count in the big world are EVERYTHING here.” What a perfect way to find peace, when the news of the world is so troubling. You always find a way to help us keep things in perspective. Your Address Book Organizer is such a wonderful idea!! Using alphabetical order is key! My little notebook of logins and passwords is not in alphabetical order. This will be a nice, helpful, little project as we begin the new year. Susan, wouldn’t your quote be lovely on stationery or a journal? You made my day! ♡
    Warm hugs!
    Love,
    Dawn
    ♡♡

  40. jane says:

Brilliant! Much better than my overfull and over small telephone number book that I currently use.

  41. Joann says:

Oh Susan…..this is a wonderful idea!!! I,too, want to get MUCH more organised….and a move is helping, although it’s so tempting to just unpack the boxes and get things somewhere….stop me!

Such a good idea!!!!!!!!! OH goodness…….yes!!

    xoxo

  42. Anna says:

Oh I would love such a beautiful help to get organized! Thanks for the idea and opportunity!

  43. Patti Reed says:

What a great idea to put all of that in an address book. I have mine at the back of my Susan Branch pocket calendar. That way it’s in my purse and if I’m at work (like I am now) I have my passwords with me. Where ever we have it, it just has to be made by Susan Branch!

  44. Betty says:

    Hi Susan,
I was just going to start a little password book for my husband. The idea of an address book to wonderful and I will wait until your drawing is over before I start my book. Please enter my name in your drawing. I hope I win…
    Joyously,
    Betty @ My Cozy Corner

  45. Bobbi says:

Love these! That’s a great idea!

  46. I could really use that for passwords too,

  47. Debra Coble says:

Sweet bells of Smallville! Thank you for sharing this idea! I too am looking for a lit’ bit of kitty fur for a new companion, I visit you often via Internet and enjoys all you posts! Thanks for your friendship! Hugs

  48. Candice says:

Must have one of these for myself, and also to fill out and give to my 92 year old mother who calls at least every other day asking for someone’s phone number, which she “has on a little piece of paper somewhere.” Thanks.

  49. Claudia in Huntsville, Alabama says:

What a lovely post! A wonderful way to start the New Year- fresh and organized!! Keep warm!

  50. Corinne says:

Thanks for the great idea! Always a good thing to be organized.

  51. Janet Marshall says:

Love the blue one as it is my favorite color but the yellow is so bright and sunny, very hard to decide. Thanks for all of your great ideas and sharing with us.

  52. Patty in Michigan says:

Best idea for all those passwords, etc…..mine get wrote on tiny pieces of paper then lost some where! I would just love this….another sweet item from you 🙂 How sweet that you take care of your mom the way you do. She and I share the same name. Does she go by “Patty” or “Patricia”? We have to take care of our moms…..my mom came along with me when I met you in Grand Rapids. She is now a girlfriend too! along with my daughter, Lauren 🙂 we all love you! Stay warm and organized 😉

  53. Jody says:

I have my computer passwords in a binder…..no organizing about it. Just there, and thankful for it. I never would have thought about organizing them into an address book. Brilliant! Yes, you are!

It’s smallville here too….dishes, lunch, laundry, feeding cattle and sheep.

  54. Love – love – love it! If I don’t win one – I will definitely buy one! Mine is in pathetic shape with so many things crossed out and written over. Will you be offering replacement pages?

    • sbranch says:

No, the manufacturer did not make them for these books I’m sorry to say, BUT, we did put a whole lot of pages in each of them to make up for it.

  55. Kelly H-Y says:

What a clever idea … love it!!
Always love your posts … they make me smile.

  56. Sue in Lake Bluff says:

I love the fireplace scene….I am in CA right now and it isn’t fireplace weather at all, but that’s ok…not complaining….

Love your idea with the address book, my husband keeps telling me all my info should be on my computer….I guess I am just an old fashioned girl…I like paper..:)

Happy New Year to you, Joe and all the “kitties”
    xoxo

  57. Jan says:

What a great idea. Love your blog.

  58. I do the same thing but would love it in a Susan Branch address book! Either color works for me!

  59. Barbara Ellen says:

    Dear Susan,
Thank you for the oasis of calm.
And yes, I agree with you. The binder idea is brilliant, just brilliant!
    Barbara

  60. Genevieve says:

Happy New Year Susan! Trying to send positive wishes to all, despite everything awful that is happening these days. We will be moving to Paris in the summer for my husband’s work. I refuse to get scared and discouraged, even if many people are saying : You’re not afraid to move there? No, I’m not !!!
Love your work ! Brings peace and kindness to our world. That’s the legacy I want for my children. Would also want your address book 🙂
Take care. Following your blog is a joy !
    Geneviève

    • sbranch says:

Don’t be. Paris will be an adventure and living there would be a dream come true for so many of us. Enjoy!

    • Enjoy every moment of your time in Paris, Genevieve! What a wonderful adventure you will have! Hope you will keep in touch with all of us after you move. It would be so nice to hear about your day-to-day life there. Je vous souhaite des jours heureux à Paris!
      ♡Dawn

  61. Pat Triska says:

I have been using an address book for years but mine is getting crazy with ones that need to be deleted. Maybe oh maybe I could win one.

  62. Linda says:

I have that first address book and I use it the same way!! …passwords and such.
need one for actual addresses, so winning the contest would be great. The books are the perfect size and even the inside pages are cute.

  63. Patty says:

A lot of people ask why we would choose to live so far from the city out in the “boonies.” Now I can correct them and say, it isn’t the boonies, it is Smallville! Love it and love the address book idea for keeping track of passwords and important information.

  64. I would love an address book from one of my favorite people on the planet! (that’s you). xoxo Jacqui G

  65. bonnie montes says:

I can use all the help available to keep/stay organized!

  66. Marianne in Mo. says:

Better idea than mine – I had a bound notebook, tiny – about 3×4, that was just hanging around, so I started writing mine down. No alphabetic order! Then hubby started adding HIS, but didn’t leave room for me to add new stuff. Now it’s a jumbled, scribbled mess, and hard to find what you are looking for, and no extra spaces for changed passwords. Much like your tattered edged papers! (Which I had before the notebook! 😉 ) I just need to keep a “his & hers” book in the future, because my dear hubs organizes in his own unique way!

  67. Karen Holly says:

Hi Susan! I agree with your mother: organization is the key to success.
    Keep on organizing!

  68. Pamela Tasker says:

Simply Brilliant ! I can always count on you for wonderful inspiration! This will be the perfect go to place for my husband’s inquisitive mind….Thank you friend!

  69. Sandra M. says:

What a great idea! I have an ugly plain spiral notebook I use for that purpose. Just thinking how lovely it would be to look up my passwords in that adorable book!
Have to mention I too live in Smallville, but it’s located here in Wisconsin. Who would want to live in Bigville?
    Thanks for everything! Sandy

  70. Julie L says:

Warm winter greetings! Thank you for this great idea. Now all I need is a book – pick me, pick me LOL.
Thanks for always thinking of us 🙂

  71. Judy says:

I have seen this idea before, but what could be better than using a blue Susan Branch address book to implement it?!

  72. Brenda Caldwell says:

Wheeeeee! What a neat give-away! That is the neatest idea to store passwords in an address book, and one as pretty as yours would make it a pleasure to look them up 🙂

  73. Joan says:

Hello from snowy Indianpolis! Just doing laundry and cooking corned beef and cabbage for dinner! When it’s 11 degrees outside, and windy, it’s nice to be inside all warm and cosy with the critters(2 Goldens–Caleb and Beau, a Weinmaraner–Alli and of course, Sprite the Cat)! Have a lovely, blessed day!

  74. Kathy Nelson says:

What a wonderful idea! I love getting organized to start off the new year!

  75. Caroline O'Brien says:

I need all the help I can get :))

  76. Carol D. says:

I love that I also came from Smallville! Such a good idea using an address book for passwords, it sure beats having them all over the office on little slips of paper.

  77. Linda S. says:

Thank you Susan for the chance to win, and Vanna-pick me! The address books are beautiful!

  78. Clare says:

Would love to be half so organised! It’s very windy here this ending in the UK,so I’m wrapped up warm reading blogs and dreaming…

  79. Linda R says:

OH, YES, PLEASE A YELLOW ADDRESS BOOK, IF I MAY! I kept reading, wanting one too, and then you said CONTEST!!! Please Vanna pick me. It would look so nice on my desk here in Maine.

  80. Amy Baldwin says:

I have used your previous Address Book for years, it’s so well-worn it’s about to fall apart after so many moves and entries through time. I am so excited you have two new ones, thank you for the chance to win two more! I’ll use one and gift to a gal friend for sure. I am in need of a new one for sure!

  81. Janette Auditor says:

How did you know that I am desperate for a little address book!! Beautiful!

  82. Alice says:

Thanks for your post to help motivate me to get organized! Nice way to get the New Year started! A nice read on a cold rainy Texas day! I will be using your idea of a book for all those important passwords, etc. Stay warm!

  83. Thea says:

Sometimes I’m just a disorganized mess. But if I put a mind to one organizing task I do feel lighter and happier.

  84. Nancy says:

I have your blue address book….Christmas gift from 2013 and have indeed entered passwords and websites along with names & addresses….

  85. Jeannette from the Central Coast says:

    Loved your organization project!

  86. Kathi Sanoba says:

What a great idea, Susan (I love the Gladys Taber Contacts entry!). I keep all of my passwords and online payment schedule and info on a very unromantic Excel spreadsheet on a jump drive. It’s probably one of the few organized things in my life (by necessity).

I have an address book, but it is very empty – it is my Christmas Card list which seems to get smaller every year.

I love the idea of using an address book for passwords, though. If I win, I will do that!

From cold and snowy northeast Ohio…have a great day!

  87. Cabetca says:

Wow, Susan! Your organization ideas are awesome. Like you, I have sheets of raggedy notebook paper with about a zillion passwords sort of haphazardly alphabetically listed. I think they sometimes rearrange themselves when I’m not looking because I usually have a hard time finding the one I need RIGHT NOW. Thanks for your great ideas!

Hi Susan! I’m in Smallville too today – taking down my Christmas decorations and cleaning up a storm. It’s chilly but beautiful and white and sparkly outside my windows so it’s a perfect day to put “Please Don’t Eat the Daisies” in the dvd player and get things done. What a smart idea for passwords! I’ve got mine in a notebook too and have to flip through every page to fine what I need.

Susan! Can you send me some of your energy asap? I love the sight of your sparkling glasses and knick knacks…………but oh my, I sit here at my table, just recovering from that terrible flu bug……..still so tired and lacking in spunk.
I see that my entire house needs attention. This is unusual for me. My Christmas decorations are still out. I did not get a tree this year, or that too might still be standing, dropping needles with every breath I take. Once I start a task, I am a person that needs to complete it. So I will get to it. Once the decorations are down, out comes the dust cloth. Then I see that our ceiling fans need to be cleaned, and the globes on all of the hanging light fixtures need to be sprayed with windex……………it seems overwhelming.

One day at a time. I know this illness takes a lot out of a person. And the older you get, the longer it takes to get well.

To all of you lovely folks out there who share my predicament, remember that this too shall pass.

In the meantime, try not to look at the dust bunnies. Happy 2015! This is a new year, and tomorrow is another day. Drink your tea or coffee and remind yourself that you won’t feel this way forever.

Take it easy, I had no spunk after I had the flu either, naps were required. But it comes back so don’t worry!

  90. Carol Hesch says:

Love the idea! You are the best!

  91. Terri Brewster says:

Loved today’s blog. I too am in the process of organizing, cleaning cupboards and cabinets. In the process of organizing I was looking for a new address book as I ran errands today and found nothing. So, I headed home to look online and read the blog post first. I did the password book last year in organizing. It has been a life saver for me. Keep up the organizing.

Cold even in SC! Would love to win!

Brilliant idea! Count me in. Either color is fine! This blog entry: perfect timing!! I just finished chucking the contents of my at&t bill (except for the bill, that is!). I mean, really . . . “add a tablet for $10/mo. go way beyond Wi-Fi”; “Enjoy the ride, add 4GLTE to your new 2015 car and turn it into a hot spot for $10/mo.” ; “Welcome to audiovox car connection elite”; ‘Get a “wowee MiP Robot; a “Braven 705 Bluetooth speaker: ” a “Fitbit Flex to monitor your every daily activity and sleep”; and more. . .”!!!!! Then SANITY!! Susan Branch from SMALLVILLE! I’m there!! Gertrude Stein quote — PERFECT!! I’m holding onto my Common Sense!! And you are helping me do it!! 🙂 Thanks, Susan! ♥

    • sbranch says:

Was language was that? LOL. That’s a true brain twister! Count me in on the Fitbit Flex! 🙂

      • Jane Franks says:

🙂 The Fitbit Flex did look like an interesting idea. I’ll have to check that one out. I did something today I hope I will adjust to!! I joined the fitness center down the street. It’s free with my insurance, and I’ll have a free trainer session to get started. I’ll find out when it is least crowded and least noisy. Nothing ventured!! Just want to get some strength and cardio under my belt before our next adventures!! 🙂 I’m not becoming a fanatic. It’s not my style!! 🙂

We Southern Californians just love that you get frost and ice crystals on your window and secretly wish we could share in that joy. But hey, wait! We do get to when you send these posts! 🙂

  95. Oh what a great idea, Susan, to use an address book, for all those zillions of passwords and other info we now seem to need on a daily basis! Mine are saved on my computer so I can change them as I need to, and then I print out a copy periodically and keep it in my computer/craft room, but your idea is so much more FUN! Thanks for a chance to win these! I’d keep the yellow one………

  96. tami says:

I love this idea!! If I’m not the fortunate winner of this surprise I will most certainly need to go out searching for something that us workable….but it won’t be eye candy like these are!! Stay Warm!!

  97. Jody says:

I love January when it’s cold and snowy outside and I am inside organizing ’til my heart’s content. I love the idea of an internet address book. There are so many addresses, user names and passwords now.

  98. Sheri Lesh says:

I would love one of the address books. I have been doing this for awhile, but my little book is worn out and the whole thing could do a good make over…..great idea! A lot prettier too!

  99. Bobbi Jo says:

I feel most comfortable in “Smallville” too. Thanks for your great suggestion about using the address book that way. You are very clever – always thinking. Happy New Year to you and dear Joe!!

  100. Heartsdesire says:

What a great organizing idea. I have a book that I keep some of those passwords and information in, but one that is alphabetized would be so much better. Especially since my book also has quilt patterns, old recipes, knitting information and such.
Here in Smallville on the south end of Vancouver Island it is 47 degrees today. Not too cold, the snowdrops are blooming and the crocuses are starting to push through the earth.
A new kitty will definitely be in our future as we had to put down our beautiful almost 21-year-old Maine Coon, Daisy, yesterday. Hard days ahead trying to get used to not having her around, but your cheery posts and seeing pictures of your lovely kitties helps.

    • sbranch says:

Ohhh so sorry about Daisy, that’s such a terrible loss. 21 years, that’s amazing! Sending love . . . and don’t think it’s disrespectful to get a kitten “too soon” because it’s really because you had such a WONDERFUL LIFE with Daisy that you would want to do it again. Let the laughing, jumping leaping and purring begin!

      • Heartsdesire says:

Thanks, Susan. It’s going to take a bit of an adjustment not having Daisy around anymore. Even though we have a wonderful seven-year-old Pixie Bob named Callie, the house seems very quiet. But I know there are so many loving kitties out there that are just waiting for a forever home, and I’m sure we will be able to pick one out in the very near future.

    • Cindy Stierhoff says:

What a beautiful name for a kitty, Daisy, I bet she brought you lots of sunshine through all the years she shared with you. God Bless you.

      • Heartsdesire says:

Thank you. She was indeed a beauty and we miss her so much. Having a cat with you every day for over 20 years really leaves a hole in your heart. But I know it will heal and we will remember her with fond memories.

        • sbranch says:

I still, after ten years, can’t pass my kitchen door without looking out the window to see (subconscious habit) if my Man Kitty wants in. They make little kitty footprints on our hearts.
