I can’t believe it, here we are, at the end of August already and all I can say is, tick-tock, how did we get here so soon, and OH GOODIE!MUSICA! I have been suffering from this hot and sticky August that seemingly will not end . . . I’m ready to move on! Love the quote, “There are only two seasons, Autumn, and waiting for Autumn!” Fits me to a T, especially right this moment. And then, a couple of days ago, at the top of my suffering, I accidentally did a happy thing . . . I opened up my Autumn Book, just to take a look. As I turned the pages a thrill went through my heart, and I realized, it’s almost here! My favorite time of year!
So I went and got some sunflowers . . . and cut marigolds from the garden for little vases . . . because
It perked me right up! Changed everything! Sweaters are coming! Leaves! Crisp air! Corn Pudding! Makes me almost want to go on a diet. That’s how perky I feel! (“Almost” being the operative word, I am not done with toast and peanut butter yet!)
I know, not everyone looks forward to cold weather, but I love having a reason to heat up the oven and bake something! And in my glee, I planned the rest of the year: first a long breezy, colorful autumn (and can we have a normal Halloween? Why not? Everyone wears masks anyway!👺 That will cheer everyone up! The kids will be thrilled!), leaves blowing through the woods on our walk, crisp salt air off the water, quilts airing in the breeze, more cozy covers on the bed, church bells ringing and boat whistles blowing, and then a short, cozy, snow-white winter around the fireplace, with a new Christmas book and a new puzzle to do during the winter, which will be SO short I’ll have to hurry! And then, an early burst of the most flowery spring ever ~ in a brand new world filled with fresh beginnings! Covid gone, children going to school, everyone back to work, Easter egg hunts! Kitchen table Tea with girlfriends, with new remembrance, respect, and deep gratitude …
While all these nice thoughts were brewing in my head … My cups arrived on the kitchen porch!!! I’ve been waiting! I hope you got yours too … if not, you should soon. We had a little slow-down at the PO, so if you ordered one, and don’t have it yet, it’s definitely on the way!❤️
And then there’s this happy thing. Joe is outside building us a 12′ picnic table, in two pieces, one 8′ and one 4′ … so we can have a party of six for dinner, a couple at each end, and one in the middle for starry September evenings! Just planned our first one for this Friday Night!👏 I’m cooking! Joe’s grilling! Keeping our sunny-sides up.💖
Now what’s this you may be asking. It’s a surprise! Another unexpected book! It will be called Distilled Genius, Wisdom of the World, Words to Live By, (or something like that) and contain my forty-year collection of brilliant quotes from the ages, gathered into categories as I have them here in my Studio, such as Courage, Tea, Gratitude, Gardens, Happiness, all onto pages like these . . .. . . whole genius sections about Love, Dreams, Time, Girlfriends, Cooking, Creativity, Earth, Fairy Tales, Beauty . . . so on and so on… Look how cute it’s going to be! I have about 40 pages done so far. I’ve been asked to do this for years, and I do think it needs to be here for the future! Everything that has ever mattered has been beautifully said by someone whose attestment has teeth, from Marcus Aurelius, to Mark Twain, Black Elk, Rumi, Langston Hughes, C.S. Eliot, Churchill, and the Bible, to Louisa May Alcott, Toni Morrison, Shakespeare, Dickens, Anne Frank, Lincoln, and so many more … plus, plenty from that prolific genius, Anon… and lots from people with less familiar names, whose smart, funny, wise, and touching words inspire curiosity, and open whole new worlds that lie beyond them. I’ve always read quote books like novels! I hope this book will be finished for that wonderful spring I’ve been thinking about. More hope in a time of need. May have to be two books, might even be three, still waiting to see! I know, I have next year’s calendars to do, and my wonderful book, Enchanted to work on, and lots of blog posts and Zoom events and dinners to cook, and Joe and Jack, and the House of Creativity, and all those other ideas, but here I am, Girls, 73, and there is still so very much I want to do!Some of you will remember that I did my very first Zoom Webinar last week. First I had to learn how to do a Power Point slide show. That about killed me. But at the last moment, it sunk in, and I found out just how easy it is to do. All about pushing the right buttons. Then I had to write about the photos, ⬆️ that’s me reading over old diaries to make sure I had the details right ~ it was a Calgon Zoom Party, took us far, far away, back to the English Countryside! And THEN, there was a week of daily Zoom practice with the encouragement of Andrea, the wonderful person who had extended the invitation for me to speak. We got to know each other pretty well! She was very patient!
We ended up doing the same program two days in a row, because the Zoom Room had gotten so full. I knew lots of you were there, because I got pictures! This one above is from our Girlfriend Mary Brehm! She has sweet peas!
This one came from Karen England and her Kitty . . . so fun to be in everyone’s houses!
This one is from Trahlyta! I got so many wonderful photos from you guys! Thank you! The program lasted about an hour and 15 minutes. I know some of you wanted to join in, but could not ~ so, as promised, here’s a link so you can see it yourself on Youtube. In the beginning, it’s just me staring at the screen, watching the names of attendees scrolling by really fast … such a fun thing to see, so many I recognized. I wish that part showed so you could read them too … but instead you just have to watch me staring at them and saying them out loud. Might want to skip that part!IN THE MEANTIME. Guess what? There are going to be more Zoom parties. In the column on the right of this Blog
you’ll see EVENTS. Here is the Link for it, but you can get there yourself when you need to check back for new event dates. I’m about to add more, so watch for them so you can register and receive an invitation to join.
The next one will be a Sunday Afternoon Christmas Tea Party presented by the wonderful people at Titcombs Bookshop, just over the water on the Cape, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm EST on September 20 ~ BYO Tea because you’re all invited to my first virtual book event for my new Home for Christmas book! Here’s where you can sign up! If you don’t know how to do Zoom, you can Google “Youtube how to use Zoom” and they will show you. It’s just a matter of which buttons to push ~ it’s easy. When you sign up, they will send you an invitation to our zoom party … which will have a link for you to click on the day of the event. Put it on your calendar! One flower stands out on Martha’s Vineyard, it’s the hydrangea… they are everywhere! Drive up and down the streets and that’s what you see. We moved these from another part of the garden last year, and I’m so glad we did. Aren’t they romantic? They’re just starting to turn pale pink, something they do in the fall . . . and now we can see them from the kitchen windows from this dear old house I have loved for so long.💞
We’re still going on our walk everyday … joy of life.
It’s been very warm . . . sometimes we have to cut our way through the air, it’s so thick . . . but it’s nothing like what our California Girlfriends are suffering. We pray for them every day. You too, Girlfriends in Iowa, we know about that crazy storm that shot through your state. And now, 11′ storm surges in Louisiana.😢 🙏 2020 is some kind of year!⚡️ We were spared the other night, we were told to hunker down and expect one-inch hail ~ it got very dark out there, but it never came! Thank God. Deep breath, ahhhhhh. Remembering how much we have to be grateful for.
The woods are still green as Sherwood Forest, but every so often there are tell-tale signs that change is on the way with bright spots like this one!
And now, look, I had to show you this sweet letter I got from someone writing about our DamPanic, Go. Be. Love. postcards! Made my day!
Dear Susan, Several weeks ago I purchased a package of your “Go. Be. Love” postcards and sent them to a number of friends. Oh, my gosh! I send lots of cards and notes and have never received so many oohs and ahhs over a card I sent. My dear friends loved the postcard and just showered me with compliments and thanks. You deserve all of the credit. You created the perfect greeting to send during this pandemic and I am so grateful to be a longtime fan and follower and saw them in your online shop. Stay safe and well. Sincerely, Marge
Just in cases YOU might need to be “showered with compliments and thanks” I thought I would share this! And the New Pumpkin Go. Be. Love. postcards came in too …
I had this pumpkin postcard printed in honor of what our Great Grandmothers did for us only a hundred years ago this August 18th!💖 Joe carved that Halloween pumpkin a few years back for our front window ~ I thought it would be a good way to celebrate those brave and determined women, mothers, sisters, grandmothers, and best friends (and men too), who put themselves out there in a very big way for US! We should never take it for granted … they went through some very difficult and dangerous years, to make it happen!👏 Yes, Jack . . . And one more thing . . .In case YOU too need something sweet and homey to inspire you with my wind-in-the-trees formula for cozy, Kellee just put my Autumn book up at 25% off until midnight on Labor Day! You probably already have it, but maybe not, and maybe you need a gift for a friend!🍂
And for you?
Time for a good Giveaway, don’t you agree? I think this is the perfect place to thank all of you for sticking with us through thick and thin and dampanic too, for me and for Kellee and Sheri, your kindness has meant the world to us over the years, going to work is a gift because of you, but especially these last months, you have no idea what a positive force you are. All you have to do is read the comments to know what lovely kindred spirits visit here. No matter where in the world you are, we have so much in common, I’m very proud of us.💖 Thank you.
So we’ll start here . . . 3 cups, 3 winners! As you know, these cups are mostly sold out now, but we saved these to surprise someone(s) ~ I hope one of them is YOU! Just leave a comment right at the bottom of this post, click on the teeny grey letters that say “comments,” leave a few words, and you will be automatically entered for the drawing . . . I’ll let you know who won in the next post, then I’ll send an email to the winners, who can write back with their mailing address, and voila, your cups will be on the way, either for you to keep, or perhaps to give away as a Christmas gift! And more . . .
Shipping from the printer is still on schedule for August 26th, which means we will probably have to wait until the day after Labor Day, September 8 to get HOME FOR CHRISTMAS delivered to the Studio! So, 3 more winners in this next drawing ~ and for each, a signed copy of my new book, hot off the press! If you’ve already ordered it, then Boom! You’ll have another one to giveaway! A little bit of “pay it forward.”💞
Leave a comment as suggested above … and now we will have six winners! Makes my day!Okay dear ones, that’s all she wrote for today! I hope you’re giving yourself those hugs I talked about at the Zoom Party. They do help, and you do deserve them.❤️ Petty-pet hugs are good too! XOXOXO
So fun, thanks for the blog. Love your writing style. Also thanks for getting me out of the house and doing some flower gardening. You’re very inspiring. Continue to Go. Be. Love. We need you!
So enjoyed your zoom chat – thank you for sharing. Signing up for your next one now…….
I will be happy for fall-my favorite season !
The blessings of Autumn give me hope in the midst of uncertainty.
To have something to hope for is a way to see past the present difficulties.
LOVE these blogs!!!
Read and reread them!!
So inspirational!!
Thank you , Susan!
Looking forward to your wonderful book for the spring!!! I will be sure to preorder several copies!!!
Thank you, thank you!!!
Wishing you a wonderful dinner on Friday and the beginning of the fall season!
Thanks Susan, for a wonderful, much needed blog!!!
So good to see your post today, a light to brighten the day!
Missed the Zoom! I will have to pay attention to the next one. I will hate to see Summer go,but I love Fall! Winters here in Wisconsin are brutal sometimes. Hugs, stay safe.
Hi Susan,
I am a new subscriber and am greatly enjoying your blog. I listened to the recording of your zoom meeting this morning. I love being retired (a recent happening) because now I can make time for this sort of activity. It was a pleasure meeting you and hearing all about your trip to England. I made notes for the next time I can go there!
I am an avid gardener and even though I’ve been doing it my whole life I feel like I am just beginning the learning process now that I have time to do more than just throw seeds in the ground and hope they grow. So your comment about Beatrix’ experiments struck a chord with me. Too bad I’m not an artist like you and she, I’ll just have to document my activities and learning with my Iphone!
I am based in the bay area of CA and it’s awfully smoky outside these days, so thanks for giving me a spot of brightness and an indoor activity this morning. Bless your heart, keep up the good work!
P.S. In case you weren’t aware I am having issues when I try to sign up for your upcoming virtual book signing by clicking the link in your blog. I was able to get there from the events page, but the link in your blog didn’t like my login no matter what I entered for a user name.
Thank you for telling me… I’ll fool with it a little bit. Stay safe Lamar, very nice to meet you! Happy retirement! xoxo
I am a saver & I came across your early “Wilburs” on paper & sent via USPS. It was such fun reading how much you liked going to the post office daily & collecting your letters from fans. So glad I kept them.
The one good thing coming out of this pandemic is two new Susan Branch books! I can’t wait to get my Home for Christmas book next month! EEk! So exciting! ANd a quote book!?!? Dreams really do come true haha!
Got my 2021 calendars; can’t wait for next year, it just has to be better! Santa books on order plus your puzzle. Thanks for always cheering me up.
The link worked for me and I was able to see the Zoom party today. What fun to hear your voice! I was mesmerized by the photos from Beatrix Potter’s home and you standing in the doorway where she stood – goosebump city!
I, too, am looking forward to Fall as I do every summer. While each season brings its special joy, Fall is my delight. My Facebook friends are probably weary of all of the Fall photos I post, but I never get enough of them!
I’m so glad you were blessed with your artistic talent. Thank you for sharing it with us lucky readers! Blessings…..
Once again, you’ve brightened up my day!! I usually love summer but I’m definitely ready for autumn this year!! Just received your beautiful 2021 calendar and am anxiously awaiting the Christmas book!! Thank you so much for such inspiring words and lovely thoughts.
Oh, I was so surprised and thrilled to see your post today! Nothing warms my heart and cheers me like your uplifting words and beautiful photos. My little girl will be getting married this weekend. I am stressed about being “together” with others I do not know, but am looking forward to the love that will be shared and given on a very special occasion. Thank you. I need to learn to Zoom!!!
I look forward to your emails (it’s like catching up with a longtime
girlfriend). They brighten up my day!! Thank you so much for you💕
Susan, love the idea for your new quotes book. In the description above I think you combined C.S. Lewis and T. S. Eliot into “C.S. Eliot.”
HAHA HAHAHAHAHa … thank you for mentioning it! I knew something didn’t look right!
Can’t wait for the quote book!!!
So glad you posted link for first zoom that I missed.
Be well!
Yay, thank you for the link, I was soo disappointed to have missed your event. Looking forward to the next one! I would love to win a cup, I never seem to get one in time before they are gone so I’m excited you’re bringing them back. Any chance you can also bring back spring and in love with nature?!
On those days when I felt sure that this difficult time would never end, I turned to your blog and Twitter feed for a little hope, cheer and laughter. Thank you from someone who is possibly your only conservative friend. We are, indeed, all in this together!
That’s the joy of our blog… it’s everyone, living as we used to do, with so much in common, none of the other stuff matters, a bit of a break from the insanity of the times we live! 💞 Sisters and kindred spirits.
Bless you!! You are always a spot of brightness just like that covered leaf and Jack’s ear….Illuminated by the sunshine, be still my heart. Whoa! I am with you in celebrating Fall. Whoever thought it was a smart idea to get a puppy in the dog days of summer?!! She had oodles more energy than we did and our 8 year old lab but, in spits and spurts, Jo March is fitting into the family beautifully!! Overtime there is snuggling, my heart bursts opened again. SO EXCITED to see your christmas book when it comes!!! My blotter calendar came…no words, just LOVE it. Happiest year turning toward Fall to you, Joe, Jack and all the girlfriends
Love your posts Susan – you brighten my day – can’t wait to visit Martha’s Vineyard some day…….. 🙂
Just wanted to say thanks for thinking of Iowa, we were not prepared for the derecho anymore than our governor has prepared us for Covid 19. Keep fighting the good fight, Susan. We are healed by you.
Hi Susan! You never cease to amaze me with another mesmerizing blog where I can be transported to another world for a few moments. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm for fall and the hope of what is to come! Hugs from one Susan to another!!
Hello Susan !! I ALWAYS look forward to your blogs for encouragement and inspiration. As my Mother was dying, she mentioned The Bluebird of Happiness to me and my sister. Ever since then both of us have been obsessed with the bluebirds. My sister has had the covid, struggling to get over it for months !!! I fear that it has changed her forever. We continually like too surprise each other with small “bluebird” gifts and quotes, pictures, cards, and etc. Oh, how I would love to win your bluebird cup to send to my sister !!! Both being in our 60’s now, we have always been very, very close, but due to the covid and my low immunity, we haven’t seen each other for months !!! Your cup would be the perfect “hug” that we are both missing so very much. LOVE you and your hubby, Joe !!! HAPPY FALL !!!!
Hello Susan,
I always enjoy reading your delightful blog posts and this one is no exception. It came at exactly the right time for me since I have been feeling a bit blah. World news, a death in the family and a loss job can put such a strain on an individual, but here comes your post. Thank you so much for lifting my spirits. I am so excited about your new quotes book. I, too, am a quote person and I especially love to read an old quote that is still so relevant today. I am so happy that I am part of your girlfriend community. We really need each other in times like these. Stay safe.🇺🇸 Vote!
I love everything you create!
I love fall! I agree with you, I cannot wait for cozy season. I was thinking about how much I like fall and winter on my walk this morning, in the eleventy billion degree weather. I wish you and yours continued good health. And kitty hugs.
What a grand post. You do cheer me up!
I sent a comment yesterday, but I fear it may be lost, floating in cyberspace.
I enjoy your blogs so much, Susan. I too love Autumn. It is my favorite season, hands down. I have your Autumn book and it is a delight. Please keep creating beautiful things. I have several of your cups and ordered the Little Things cup, but would love to win another one to send to my sister in Alaska for Christmas. Your artwork is a wonderful gift and so are you! Virtual HUG!
My daughter (currently 11) has told me for years that the seasons change when the sky changes color. Just this morning she announced “the sky is starting to look like fall – yay!” And then she started dancing, being a cold weather girl like me! So hopefully we won’t have too long to wait before the autumnal breezes come, even if it’s still almost a month until the equinox.
As for me, I’m looking forward to autumn too, but now I also have your coming quotes book to look forward to! I have a number of notebooks, dating back to middle school, filled with quotes that I found appropriate, inspirational, or just beautiful during various parts of my life. One of the things I always enjoy about your books is that you sprinkle so many good quotes through them; I always find some old friends and some new! So a whole book of quotes will definitely be a joy!
Thank you for all of your hard work, and for sharing your optimism with us!
Hi Susan
It’s been so hot in maryland and Delaware. My daughter and I have started a count down to fall, can’t wait to go outside with a sweater!
Eagerly awaiting my new cup! Then to receive the Christmas book will be the icing on the cake.
Please send some of your cool breezes as it is 90+ here today and very humid. I think “Laura” will provide our relief around Friday. Cheers, Ellen
Thank you Susan for reminding me to hug my husband several times a day everyday! So simple and so wonderful.
You always brighten my day! Love the idea of a book with all your favorite quotes. I’m running downstairs to see if I have your Autumn book!
I just love your blog Susan. And your cups are so adorable. I would love to have all three. LOL!
Thank you, as always, for bringing joy and delight to our hearts. We need it!
I always look forward to new updates! So glad the robin is one of the mugs being re ordered. I dropped my old one but thought it was okay. It had a crack so tea seeped out.
I’ve been a fan since Country Living recipe pages and still have quite a few though they are yellowed.
I appreciate the cozy style that you send.
I would love the darling mugs❤️❤️❤️
Looking forward to Autumn, too! Can’t wait to smell the pumpkin spice aroma coming from my oven. Love pumpkin pies, bars, and my favorite …PUMPKIN PANCAKES!!!
Also, looking forward to your new favorite quotes book!
Quotes can be so inspirational.
Happy Autumn!
My daughter just gave me your Happy Birthday cup she bought on the Vineyard!
I love ❤️ it and will Make a Wish!
Love reading your blogs Susan! So uplifting!
Thank you Susan!💕 helped bring joy and beauty to a tough day ❤️ (I commented the other day, but I’m not sure it made it through). Wanted to say thank you!
Dear Susan, not sure why but my comments seems to fall into the vast wasteland of the World Wide Web. 💻 in fact maybe it has gone to be with the lost socks🧦! Oh, my! What else is ‘out there’ wherever ‘there’ is? But I will try again. Thank you for a glimpse of your island life.love the idea of two picnic tables. And I do think that autumn will be great. Praying for our country…it needs it. barbara
Thanks for the breath of fresh air your writing gives! Always enjoy reading them.
Today is my Aunts 93rd birthday. We keep in touch and both miss my mom, her sister. She is such a lovely lady and a wonderful watercolorist as are you. She has shared a few of her works with me which I cherish!!
Can’t wait for the cooler weather of fall. It doesn’t come to S. Cal until about October, but it comes. Bless you for all you do!!
Hi,
I love seeing your home on the blog. I just read the new blog and it has inspired me to be more positive in my daily life. I truly appreciate it.
Thank you!!!!!!!
This morning I was telling my sister in law about your artistic journey and how incredible it’s been and how prolific you are. She’s here care taking me.A month ago I fractured my tibial plateau and my fibula. im thankful for beautiful things to enjoy, gifts from a merciful God. Your artwork has brought joy to so many. It is one of those gifts.
I’m getting ready for fall & YOU help me get there! Thank you!!!
Thanks for everything you do, Susan. It really makes a difference! Can’t wait for the book of quotes!!
Susan, I always look forward to receiving an email from you! When I receive your email I prepare as I would prepare for a chat with a friend. I get a cup of tea and let my husband and son know I will be busy for a bit. I love all the art and the fun way you share your news. Thank you for the recharge!
Oh, by the way, I just got an email telling me that my new cup is on its way. I am so excited. Hopefully next time I sit to read your email I will have tea in my new cup!
Dear Susan…thanks once again for keeping us grounded and reminding us how very blessed we all are to have each other and many, many things to be thankful for. Ah, the crisp fall breeze and mellow light of Autumn brings energy and peace to my heart too. Can’t wait to have that Christmas book in my hands! Happy Days are ahead all the way around!
HI, Susan!
Your post made my day and I was so excited when I saw your Pandemic Postcards. I went and ordered 4 packs and was so sad to see they were all sold out…of course, I can see why. They are the cutest…I even made a list of all the friends I wanted to send them to. Please tell me that you will be getting more in and when! I have my fingers crossed.
Coming back in very soon Debby!
Thank you, as always, Susan, for your wonderful posts. They always encourage me to get out and enjoy and be thankful for my own beautiful world! I have friends in CA who have been drastically affected by the fires, they are all safe, thank God, but their neighborhood is mostly gone and they haven’t been allowed back to see if their house is still standing. Many prayers have been said for them and all of CA. Thankfulness, for me right now, is especially huge in my heart.
Good luck with your book. I think it’s a wonderful idea! And, yes! Autumn is the best! Stay safe! And all the best to you! Candi
HI Susan!
Your post made my day especially when I saw your darling Pandemic Postcards! I went to buy 4 packs of them and was so sad to see they were sold out…please tell me that you’ll get more in soon!
We will!
What a joy when I see your name in my inbox! I’ve been itching to pull out fall decorations here in hot, humid Houston. You’ve inspired me! Yay for fall!
When you mentioned sweaters in your blog – it reminded me of when I worked at the elementary school (retired 12 years ago after being the secretary for almost 34 years – sure as anything – no matter HOW HOT IT WAS – there’d always be a few students who just HAD to wear their new clothes – which might be sweaters and cords! I don’t think they’d have admitted how warm they got – they just wanted those new clothes on. Bless their hearts and sure hope it’s a safe and successful year for staff, students and parents.
There was nothing better than your brand new back to school clothes!! 💞
Dear Susan,
I need to have all of your books one day! I read your blog in tiny bits and savor over every word and picture! I cannot wait to get my Christmas book, as that is my very favorite holiday. I live off social security like a lot of folks do, but I will buy myself a little gift from your store whenever I can!
Thank you for the beauty!!!
Hi Susan 😄 I hope you are having a lovely day. I am enjoying the sunshine here in New Brunswick Canada but last night was quite blustery. Oh well we need rain don’t we. Thank you for your blog. I enjoy receiving it in my email and smiling when I read it. Thank you for spreading joy.
Dearest Susan,
You keep being my inspiration, when I feel lost, I remind myself how Brave I was to make it all the way from Spain to your very door. One of my dreams was to get to know you in person, and I made it.
Life in Spain is waaaay different than in the U.S. or Britain, but my heart knows I belong there and all your beautiful details comfort my soul.
Can’t wait for your new book and Calendars. And if I win one of those beautiful mugs, you’ll be able to hear it😊😊
Lots of love from Madrid, Spain
The heart wants what the heart wants. 😘💖 xoxoxo
Having discovered you while living in Nashville, Tennessee, I was delighted to realize (after moving to California to care for little Eli), your stuff was sold at a sweet store in Cayucos, just up the road from Morro Bay! Everywhere I go, there you are, so even your blog is a treat. Thank you.
My heart was feeling heavy because this week It’s All Too Much, and I saw that you had a new post up. A few minutes break in your world always does me good.
And I would love to see a book of your favorite quotes illustrated in your happy style! I can’t wait.
Believe it or not, I too was feeling it was all too much, then I had that change of heart … but before that, I sat here blanked out, couldn’t write my new post, too sad for what all is happening and the dratted heat. Opened the book, said to myself, hey wait a minute, look at all we HAVE … and it all got better.🎉💞 XOXOXOXO
Susan: love everything you do! I have most of your books and would love to add your new Christmas book to my collection along with one of those darling cups!
Yay for another giveaway! Here’s some hugs as my giveaway to you! ♥
You’re such an inspiration to others! This time at home has been both a trial and a blessing but for me more blessings. I retired the end of June and now have more time for my quilting and making weighted blankets for special needs kiddos when I get a request plus time with my best friend/husband of 46 years and counting on to Forever❤
😘
Dearest Susan,
Your posts are always so uplifting. It’s good to hear from kindred spirits. I, like you, cannot wait until autumn but alas here in North Carolina it probably won’t happen til Nov. but it can happen in my home at the end of Sept. when it should arrive. And your Autumn book will give me lots of inspiration as it does every year. Thank you as always for the encouragement you give for those of us whose hearts are at home.
Glorious thoughts of Fall coming soon! I’ve been waiting for a quote book with your wonderful quotes! I’m so happy to know it’s coming, coming 🙂
I read your news while I sat in the hospital waiting room while my dear sweet 92 year old mother had her second procedure in one week. It was wonderful to lose myself in your words, drawings and photos. Thank you.
Hugs to you both Stacey.🙏❤️
Your posts make my day Susan. Thank you so much
Loved this post. Ordered the Autumn book. Always look forward to hearing from you.Heading to listen to you on Zoom now. Thank you for all you do to make this world a better place.

I’m so excited about the new quotation book!!! It and “Enchanted” will definitely be great additions to my SB bookshelf!
Looking forward to the new book Marie
always love reading your blog
Hello again! I have been watching the YouTube How to Zoom you mentioned, and golly, is my head full of knowledge now! The one I watched was about 23 minutes (caffeine helps and be sure to blink) but sooo informative! If you are blogging, girlfriends, you can do this. And Thank You, Susan, for this side trip on the Information Highway. This is going to be much easier to get all of the family in a zoom room soon! Now, to do some autumnal decorating for a backdrop and maybe some musica playing softly in the background, lights, webcam, action!
Isn’t it great? Youtube can teach anything, and they do it so fast. Show you just what buttons to push and voila! I like your style Jennie Lou!🎉
I can’t wait for fall too! I am sooooo tired of the heat on top of everything else 2020 has brought us. Let’s hope fall will be more calm in so many ways. Love your post and getting a glimpse into your wonderful life, your beautiful art work and your loving cheerful spirit! You’re a national treasure Susan!!
💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
Thanks for the wonderful post! From your mouth to Gods’ ears – we need the disease gone!!! Also please please please everyone vote – think of all our great, great grandmothers did to get us this right. We lucked out in our part of Iowa we were at the dentist during the storm – my dental hygienist finished up in the dark – had a headlamp on so no worries she said – just paused a few times to check texts from her mother and day care lady!!! We drove home through debris but discovered a home unscathed and with power. We realize we were among the lucky ones! So sorry for the folks in California we are also in a drought but nothing like those poor folks. Just take a moment to breathe and be thankful for EVERYTHING😘😎!!
What a story Beth!!! I’m so glad you got home safe and sound. xoxoxo Pure gratitude. SO worried about the Gulf people today.
Lovely post! I am still clinging to my pretty summer days and outings here in Michigan. Making up lots of love packages for my kids all in different states than I am and essential workers! I would love to gift a book or mug to my librarian daughter! yes… in FL she is considered an essential worker and goes in every day to help patrons! Thank you Susan!
I agree with you 100%, there are only two seasons, Autumn and waiting for Autumn! Wishing you a wonderful dinner party outdoors. Joe’s tables look great!
Your Zoom Webinar was wonderful, what a great way for so many more to hear your talk! I’m so glad you decided to do more talks!
Hi Susan – your blog posts always make me feel better! Just signed up for your Christmas Tea – very excited! I’m really Looking forward to your book(s) of quotes. Reading daily quotes or sayings start our day! Today’s is “Be with the one who makes your heart smile!” First time around, I didn’t. 27 years ago, I did! Have a great day. It is glorious in NJ today. ❤️🐝
I have been reading your sweet blog from the very beginning. It is always a bright spot when I see a new post, especially in these pandemic times. Thank you for being you.
Hi Mary!😘
I agree with you 100%, there are only two seasons, Autumn and waiting for Autumn! Wishing you a great time at your outdoor dinner party! Joe’s tables look wonderful.
Your Zoom Webinar was like a breath of fresh air during this hot, hot summer. I’m so glad you plan to do more! I felt like I was sitting in your kitchen with you!
Love the Autumn book!! I’ll have to take it to remind myself that this heatwave we’re in the middle of here in California will eventually end!!
Can’t wait for that cute Christmas book! It’s the REAL Santa!!!! You got him, Susan!
Loved the Zoom Webinar! So much fun and the first time to actually see you! I’ve loved your books and calendars for many, many years. My dear Mom, too. Every Christmas I buy a new calendar for both of our homes and purses. Waiting on fall to arrive, its very brief in New Orleans. Best to you, Joe and dear Jack.
Thank you for the upbeat, encouraging words! Your posts are a ray of sunshine and much appreciated! I am also waiting for the beautiful fall colors and crisp air.
I was so grateful to attend the Zoom talk you gave. To listen to you from my couch was so lovely! Thank you!
Dear Susan. Thank you for your uplifting words. I can’t wait to order your quote book. AND, from Phoenix AZ we are on our 46th day of over 110 degrees. I am so ready for fall. Sending love.
Dear Susan,
Such a relief to have your blog arrive in the midst of day after day of smokey skies here in Sacramento. I relish every uplifting phrase and gorgeous clear sky photo. Thank you for giving me something to hold on to and enjoy when my spirits were dipping.
And now I’ll gladly watch the Zoom link as I was unable to get onto the live event.
Blessings!
Chris
Hi Susan, so excited for your new book as I have always loved all the little quotes you interject on your pages. Glad you are well, and happy, and anxious for Autumn, as am I 🙂
Boy, I needed this happy blog today!! Thank you❤️. To say this has been a trying year is an understatement. Rona, politics and severe sickness in my own family, I’m ready for it to be over. My 32 year old son is coming home this weekend after 6 weeks in the hospital with heart failure. You just never know what this crazy life is gonna throw at you. Totally out of the blue. But your blog made me smile, and be hopeful for better days ahead. Thank you again. And remember to get out and vote people!! Please!!
Oh, it will be so good to have him home!!! Trials and tribulations, Linda! Stay strong.🙏💞💖
Hi Susan and Girlfriends! I loved the zoom meeting…. getting to see Susan live and read all the reactions of the Girlfriends. It really did feel like a gathering of good friends. I love the idea of a book of inspirational words. We certainly need it! As always, thank you for your positive perspective. It truly resonates with me and makes a difference. I am looking forward to “Home for Christmas”. It is already making me think of the holidays and realizing that I’d best do my shopping online early. Hugs!
Yes, and the mail will get it to you on time, you will be so proud of yourself. Me too, doing the same thing!💖
Oh, Dear Friend!
What fun we had, my sister and I, traveling with you to beautiful, charming, delightful England last week! Every image was a dream come to life and the narration sprinkled each with just the perfect amount of insight and joy! Here we sat together, sipping cool drinks and remembering why we love Beatrix, cozy dining spots, technology, books, picnics and YOU! Moments like these are treasures, they keep us together when much of the world is coming apart.
Thank you for stitching us together with sweet reminders of what warms our hearts and inspires us to spend our time doing what is most important in our lives. Your ability to see the wonder in this world, teach the lesson that dreams do come true, delight our senses with your creativity and share all of this with others is a gift we are truly grateful for!
Here’s to the promise of autumn, sweater weather, fires in the fireplace, crunchy leaves and more afternoons together!
Love to all,
Deborah
Oh dear Susan, if you only knew how much you and I have in common, including meeting the Beatles!! I pray one day we can meet and chat!
Thank you again, Susan, for your wonderful blog! I’ll be sure to check out your Zoom link. Things have been crazy here with my 95 yr old Mom who had a mini stroke. My 4 other siblings and I decided to move Mom out of her independent living apartment and move her to my sister’s home. We couldn’t stand Mom going back into 14 days quarantine in her room after visiting and staying at my sister’s while my CA brother and his wife were in town. So a quick decision but she seems much happier with the companionship of people in the house. She even got to incorporate much of her own furniture in her bedroom, kitchen and sunroom at my sister’s. It was a great co-mingling of two families. It’s always walking on eggshells with the elderly, knowing there could be another crisis at any time. We are blessed to still have her with us and in her right mind. Summer is my favorite time of year, so my short season is soon over and your fave season will begin! Thanks for a bright spot in my day! (Just read your post after watching TCM Pride and Prejudice with Greer Garson!) A wonderful afternoon so far. Now to finish reading my library book, Daughter of Empire, My Life as a Mountbatten by Lady Pamela Hicks, cousin of Prince Philip and a bridesmaid at their wedding. She was also a lady-in-waiting to Elizabeth when she lost her father and became Queen. Very interesting read! Bye for now!
I so enjoyed a relaxing time reading your blog today. There are so many creative details to feast my eyes on in your creations and your blog. The many quotes are a big favorite, so I’m definitely looking forward to your new Quotations book. And when I read one of my favorite quotes in this blog, “One of the secrets of a happy life is continuous, small treats,” it reminded me that I want to share a similar quote that I love–“All happiness depends on a leisurely breakfast” by John Guenther, American writer and journalist, 1901-1970. Thanks for the ‘Feast for the Eyes !’
Hi Susan!
I’m right there with you lady, can’t wait for Autumn! And, I fully endorse your plan for better things to come next year. Thanks so much for your joyful heart and for always reminding us about how many awesome things life has for us. I’ve been one of your kindred spirits since way back in 1986 when I bought your first book, Heart of the Home. I keep collecting them all and can’t wait for the new Christmas book. You are part of daily life around here, from my adorable little yellow recipe box, to the book I recorded all my Son’s firsts in, to the note pads I write on and my calendar on the wall. So, yeah for cats, tea, nature, every thing British and especially you! You are so generous in all you share and please know how very much it’s appreciated. You go girl, at 73 you’re just getting started!💖
I would love to write so much more in response to your always uplifting Blog, Susan, however I am now the caregiver, joy receiver of my two and half year old grandson while his Dad helps his autistic older sister do on-line school. Challenges for all! Though the dampanic won’t disappear after November 3, many other negative nasty issues and people will. So excited to receive your long awaited Christmas book. Love and thanks, Chris
always feels like catching up with a dear, old friend!!
My family and I saw you and Joe on your walk today. Too bad it was so windy because the views were wonderful. I love all the walks around the Island.
Your blog always brightens the day!
