No snow here! Even though It’s that time of year, somehow it hasn’t happened yet. But we can still dream can’t we? Of a snowy afternoon, in front of the fire? After all, remember, “Reality is something you rise above!” (This is one of my favorite sayings, right up there with “we’re the normal ones.”) Even if you don’t like snow, even if you moved to Hawaii to get away from it, you have to admit, it sure looks pretty!
Plenty of snow here in this little painting I did of my house; my favorite kind of snowfall, the big, fat, slow-moving (or in this case, stopped) flakes. That’s what I like about painting, you can make it snow all you want! Who cares about reality!
Here’s our back yard in the snow this time last year! Not only looks pretty, but it smells wonderful, cold and fresh.

Apples for the squirrels . . . beyond is our picket fence garden and the house next door, with sunrise reflecting on it.
Big windy nor’easter’s blow snow in every direction and turns the garden into a twinkling white fairy world. Walt Disney couldn’t do it one bit better than this.
Last year, our shutters were off the house — Joe was painting them in the barn . . . you couldn’t tell where the snow ended and our house began — it looked like a square snowball.

The lights are a reflection from our Christmas tree across the room. I took this photo of snowy holly trees through the living room window.
I’m afraid this is the closest we’re going to get to snow this Christmas . . . the powdered-sugar “snow” covered chocolate tree cake I’ll be making for Christmas dinner!
We enjoyed a few Christmases in Sydney years ago. I loved having a BarBQ in the afternoon on 12/25 and seeingSanta surfing in his shorts and hat! This is the first year in 13 years without a foot of snow around the house. All the ski resorts just opened their runs. I’m not used to seeing green grass & a dusting of white on the driveway. The roofs are all white but it would take a while to make a little ole snowball! Thanks for sharing the pics of your “White House” from last year. Merry Christmas!

How weird is this weather Susan? Here in Hot as Haitis, TX, we’re getting snow & you’re not?! I don’t ever remember a white Christmas here – never in my whole looooong life. We’re all so excited & the kids are loving it!

No snow in North Texas either, but we don’t usually have snow at Christmas. Two years ago we had a white Christmas. We didn’t have to go anywhere, and it was lovely. But I’m always glad when it goes.
Just remember, in White Christmas, they didn’t have snow either till Christmas (was that eve or day?) and they were in Vermont. It could still happen for all of you who really, really want it.
I’m off to make your cranberries in the oven. Can’t wait to smell them cooking.

Dear Susan…no snow here, either – but lots of spirit ! Had a visit from our little next door neighbor ( 3 years old) who wanted to know if we had elves checking on us, too… and is Santa coming tonight. How perfect to have a visitor like that….who needs the snow. Heading out to church, then home for our traditional Holy Supper ( an Eastern European tradition) and to watch It’s A Wonderful Life…..but had to check in and tell you what a gift your blog is everyday. Yesterday we had nothing but brown lawn to look at. This morning we got up to just enough snow to cover the lawn and make the trees look their loveliest and I had to post a picture on my blog for this Christmas Eve. It is very unusual here in Michigan not to have a white Christmas. I wish for some snow to quietly sneak into your world tonight. Have a Merry Christmas!

No snow here at my house either, but we drove through some today in the mountains of northern Arizona, coming home from a Christmas wedding. Of course we had to stop and take some pictures! Our 24 year old daughter was with us, and we laughed so much in that few short 15 minutes! Uncooperative stiff legs, after a 4 hour drive, and stepping in snow up to our knees, made for a few near falls grabbing on to each other, trying to climb a high as we could. Oh, what we do for a fun photo! We all climbed back into our warm car, with Christmas music playing, smiles of happiness, as we now have snow pictures on Christmas Eve. (Always think of your dad when we drive through Cottonwood) Merry Christmas Susan!

Just wanted to wish you a very Merry Christmas and I hope you do get some snow! No snow for us here in Western Washington. Just rain. ::sigh:: I miss the snow of my upstate NY childhood. But at least we don’t have to shovel the rain! Oh, I finally got around to making your Molasses cookies yesterday! Best cookies ever! I’m not sure if I will be sharing them with family today! Oh, I hope I can somehow find these wonderful Christmas posts of yours during the year. I love to celebrate Christmas in some way all year — usually through always having some sort of crafts project going to reflect the season — and your holiday blogs are simply magical. I can smell the snow and the spices, and hear the water rolling in the tea kettle (as if I need much inspiration to put on the kettle for another Brown Betty of tea). Having shut down all those Netflix popups on my computer screen, it looks as if I will finally, given the movie list, be persuaded to join. And order that marvelous cake mold! Last year we had a rare white Christmas in north Georgia; this year, chilly rain, but with a bumper crop of holly berries that looked beautiful even if they weren’t adorned with clumps of snow. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and enjoy the twelve days of the season. Now, if only those two turtle doves would show up, I have birdseed for them! Hello! I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas! I enjoyed the movie suggestions, and need to print out a list. I’ve seen a few of the old ones, and really love a good historical British drama. Netflix has had a great selection of old British miniseries, and movies. I can sit and quilt for hours with a good movie on, & get so much done.
We have no snow in Indiana. Very odd… even central Michigan has no snow. We’ve had plenty of cold wind with sunshine. As odd as it is, we don’t mind, since it allows us to travel without much worry about the weather. Thanks again for the great movie post.
We don’t mind either, but I wouldn’t like it to go on like this every year.
Hello All…hope everyone had a Wonderful Christmas….Jim just saw me on your blog (it’s been 2 days)…and he asked me “How was Susan’s Christmas Deborah?” I responded with “I’m sure it was lovely”…..we had a lovely Service on Christmas Eve, and we went back on Christmas Day and we had a Carol Sing and that was fun. I don’t know about all of you “Girlfriends”…I don’t care if I see another cookie/fudge/cake….until Easter?? We are suppose to get a Wintry Mix tomorrow when the rain turns to slush…I missed a White Christmas; but, not real interested in a slushy mess?? However, it is Winter and the Lord will give us what HE wants and I will just have to deal with it. Hope the Kitties got some goodies in their Stockings and had some fun. I’m tired it’s time for some “me” time and maybe a few good movies.
Oh but yes, there’s snow in Hawaii! Mount Haleakala is at 10,000+ feet and they get snow. Crazy, to go from beach to snow all in one day.

Coming here is like working really hard all day and coming home to a soft recliner with a big glass of milk and warm chocolate chip cookies waiting for me with a guilty pleasure tabloid or really great novel……it’s just peaceful…..a place I always wanted to live but at least I get to visit! Lovely moons. I live in Pacific Grove, CA on the Monterey Peninsula….no snow here but just now the winds are making themselves known and the winter tides are heaving offshore. My favorite time of year is winter. Thank you.
