tea cup flowers

MUSICA and flowers for you!  I’m just wondering if you’ve been reading your comments?  Are you not the most dried flowerswonderful gathering of people you have ever seen?  I have enjoyed them so much, all 1,400 of them . . . each comment individually, but when you put them all together, it’s Spring! ♣ It’s family, it’s memories, beauty, lve and creativity and charm and trying hard and making a difference ~ all the things I have always loved about the readers of my books ~ which I learned about from the letters I received from so many of you over the years, but now, here we are, together at last and it’s just so lovely to read!

budsme and lambThank you so much for taking the time to write!  I thought I would wish you all a Happy Sunday — and let the drawing go a couple more days so everyone has a chance to sign up.  If you’re not sure what “drawing” I’m talking about, scroll down to the next post ~ we’re in the middle of a Give-Away!  ← That’s a hint.

You can leave your comment either here or there (at the bottom of either post where you see the tiny gray letters “comments” just click and there you go) and as many times as you like because Vanna is brilliant and knows to choose only one from each name/address.  Until then, from my Girlfriends Forever book, the perfect title for US, this, for all you beautiful girls . . .

self respectThank you for being here! Keep the home fires burning!  Downton Abbey tonight!  Ooooo-La-Wee!  xoxo

I just love your flower paintings! Is there any way to purchase one? Or a print of one?

    • sbranch says:

There are signed fine-art giclees on gorgeous heavy watercolor paper and one of them is of flowers … you can see them HERE … in my webstore.

  2. Heartsdesire says:

Lovely comments, Susan. But after that, a large blank space like some others are experiencing. Looking forward to Downton Abbey tonight. Although I heard the other day that this is the finale of the fourth season. Hope I’m wrong since it just started up again in January. Good for you getting that colonoscopy. Oprah always said everyone should do it.

    • sbranch says:

I hope I fixed the blank space. I was thinking that art was too small to read comfortably so I tried to make it bigger, which is what I think the problem was for downloading it. I just went back and re-installed the art to the size the blog likes it to be.

  3. Yvonne says:

Happy Sunday! I love your cheery blog posts and beautiful pictures-whether it be snow or cherry blossoms! I bought “A Fine Romance” and love it!! I’ve been to England once and your book brings back so many smiles. I wasn’t even a knitter back then but still loved all the sheep I saw. Now, I AM a knitter and I sure would be buying different souvenirs this time around! 🙂 I plan to give your book as gifts this year to my friends who are bibliophiles if they don’t already have a copy. I need to work fast!
    Hugs,
    Yvonne

  4. Mary Cunningham says:

Oh the joy of getting a second chance to post! My internet was wonky! I love the Little Lamb cake pan…my friend Ginger and I attempted one year to make this very same lamb….it’s head fell off….tried the icing “glue” method…..your toothpick idea is golden! And you mention Tasha Tudor…my dear friend Beth worked with her for years and I get to enjoy her original art when I go to Beth’s house to “sparkle”…..We live in a beautiful world, filled with sweet flowers, lambs, sunshine and birds singing…..I’m channeling Spring today…..upper 50’s yesterday…snow this morning….25 days and counting! Love Mary…”Barefoot Sparkler”, from Nashville, Indiana

    • Laura Ann in Vermont says:

Mary, did your friend Beth have something to do with the Jenny Wren Press which used to advertise in the back of Victoria magazine? I was always curious about that ad!

      • Carol C says:

Is your friend Beth Mathers? I went to a Tasha Tudor tea she did years ago in Mooresville and to the Jenny Wren shop. Bought out out the place! What a fun day!

  5. diana from ancaster says:

Happy Sunday wishes to you as well.
It’s always been my most favourite day of the week…….time feels different on Sunday…it moves slower -sweeter……… all the better to savour the 7th day.
Even better than Sunday? a new post from our dear Susan!
Hugs to you from a “sun-shiny-snow-melty day” in ancaster!

  6. Ann Y in PA says:

Happy Sunday and what a great post…words to keep in mind ! I would love that lamb cake mold….years ago I made the bunny cake at Easter – the one where you cut up two round cakes ? Used to be such a hit. The lamb looks adorable. Enjoy your cozy Sunday….sunny here, out for a walk while it lasts – then pork chops, sweet potatoes, and brussel sprouts for supper…then tea and Downton Abbey. Is this the last of the season??? I hope not…but I am waiting for Mr. Selfridge, and Call the Midwife ( love that ) , and Last Tango in Halifax. Love watching the British shows and pretending I am there…..

    Have a wonderful week !

  7. donna zoltanski says:

Always enjoyable but especially today with pretty colors and flowers. Love the Heart teapots too. I cannot wait to win that book – or maybe Lily the Lamb! Thanks Susan!

  8. Martha says:

Hi Susan, my mother in-law always made a lamb cake for Easter – 8 kids, a beautiful table and delicious food, kids all spic and span for church, and then there was the cake…
Her mold was passed on to one of my sister in laws. I borrow it every Easter to make it one for our family…and I have always called him “Lamb-bee” ❤️

  9. Janet Conn says:

Thanks for such a wonderful give-away. The pan is so cute and the book is absolutely beautiful. You are always so generous.

    Thanks!

    Janet in Pgh.

  10. Cheryl says:

    Dear Susan,
Your blog always starts my day with a smile! Thank you!!

  11. Barbara Belcher says:

    Good Afternoon Susan,
Thank you for your wonderful blogs and music. Every time I see Susan Branch in my email, I get all excited and happy! I cannot wait to read, hear the music … you and your blogs, makes me smile, feel kinder and warms my heart. You should be so proud how much better you are able to make so many people’s day. You certainly make my day!!! <3
Love you and your books, blogs, etc … Happy Sunday to you as well. 🙂 <3

  12. Sandie says:

You know, here I am, raised as a city girl, minding my own business…..and I’ll be danged if, after reading this, I’m all jazzed up about making a lamb cake for my 14 yr old and 4 yr old grandchildren! I so love getting your blog posts, lovely and loving. Thanks, Susan!

  13. Jayne Harmon --Fresno, CA says:

So nice to spend a few minutes each day reading your messages of inspiration and cute pictures. Your lemony lamb cake inspire me to make this for seven little grandchildren Carrot muffins are cute too–even for moms & dads!

  14. Willa says:

And it has been a lovely, happy Sunday, at least here in Mt Vernon Va! Blue skies and breezy, but there’s not a hint of the colder weather and snow possibility headed our way….yet! I trying to wait until March 1 to put out all my wonderful spring decorations, especially my darling banners! It’s hard but the waiting is going to make March the first a banner day heralding spring!! Pun intended. Have a divine evening sipping whatever you sip while you watch Downton Abbey….for the last time this season! I’m going to open the bottle of Downton Abbey White Bordeaux that a friend gave me on the evening of the first show this series. Pinkies up!! Willa

  15. Sue Miller says:

Susan, my Grandmother made the exact lamb cake every Easter! Makes me smile to see it here.
Speaking of lambs, and tonight’s big event….maybe we need to name the lamb “Downton Lambie”. So sad that tonight is the season finale…such a long time to wait for the new season!

  16. Cheri says:

I love your lemon lamb cake! It’s so cute. Also would love to win the mold and the book. I love Tasha Tudor drawings and herb gardens. I lost a lot of my perennial herbs from the polar vortex down south.

  17. Kathy says:

Thanks – I needed that little pick me up today!

  18. Marian from Orange, CA says:

So good to see your post today–always is, any day. I often save it for when I can relax and enjoy it later, and think about it off and on all day. Thank you for all that you do.

  19. Deb from Dixie says:

    Happy Sunday…
So much fun to find another post today… Especially one that talks to all the things that make us each the best we can be! Have to say I love every post and read all the girlfriends comments… It’s kind of like reading letters from friends… and you learn so many new things
    too!
Can’t wait for Dowton Abbey tonight… Will be two dreamy hours… And then we have to wait a really long time to see what happens next. It’s going to be tea and popcorn for me… maybe I should call it “teapop”….. Not as much fun as twine… But good for a cold evening watching TV!

  20. Gail Steinmeyer says:

Oh Yay!!! I found the comments access!! I can’t wait to make that Lamb cake, so I am needing that adorable pan 🙂 One day I dream to visit Martha’s Vineyard and see it in person, but in the meantime…thanks for all the pics that aide in my dreaming. You’re the best!

  21. wendy held says:

I always love reading your inspiring words and recipes you share! I was surprised to see how large the lamb cake actually is!!!! I’d love to make one for my 4 grandchildren……their eyes would be big as saucers looking at it!!! So cute!!!!

  22. I’ve gotten so caught up with Downton Abbey this season that I almost forgot that it’s a short run. I realized that tonight’s episode is the season finale when I saw a note on someone else’s blog. Shucky darn. Doesn’t it go on forever? I’m similarly hooked on Doc Martin, too. Quirky stuff. Even memorable lines. Our local PBS fund-raiser last night even featured Doc Martin mugs featuring some of those memorable zingers. I’m sure that someone somewhere has manufactured similar stuff with the Dowager Countess’ words.

It was such a pleasure reading this post, Susan. I love this site. It’s frequented by only the best folks! Have a blessed and bountiful Sunday!

  23. Sally G says:

    Happy Sunday to you too!

  24. Mindy says:

I live in Arizona and we already have Spring/Summer weather here. I just planted my garden this week. I grew up in Maryland and I still miss the seasons and would love a good snowstorm right now. OOXX Mindy

  25. Michele says:

    Hi Susan,
Thank you for the wonderful Self-Respect post!
Happy Downton watching. I can’t wait!

  26. Starr miller says:

Sweet Susan– You make my heart sing. Thank you for lifting up all our hearts this day! Love your beautiful flower drawings. The heart tea cup I have and I think of you each time I use it.
My big news is — um I’m giving up meat. Yes, becoming a vegetarian and then- when I figure that out– gulp– I’ll tip-toe into into the vegan world. It’s a challenge and a change but it seems right for me. You have given me lots of great meat-free recipes that I am eager to revisit—thank you.
Looking forward to your next blog.
Best to you and Joe and your furry ones.

    • sbranch says:

That’s exciting Starr, all new creative ways of cooking.

    • Sweet Sue says:

      Good Day Starr!
My hats are off to you as you transition to a meatless diet….you can do it and it is so much healthier for you! I was diagnosed with cancer about a year and half ago and have changed my diet as well. A good resource is AICR or American Institute for Cancer Research. They have excellent meatless recipes which are delicious! If I can be of any further assistance to you just let me know! I will be praying for you and rooting for you as well. You are what you eat and what you eat makes a big difference in your health as well! The best to you Starr!

      • sbranch says:

Give us a really good yummy recipe that you love Sweet Sue — would you?

      • Starr miller says:

        Thank you Sweet Sue,
I’m just about done with all my breast cancer restoration – what a long journey it has been but I know it could have been worse. I look forward to new plant-based food discoveries and shall check out the American Cancer website!
Thank you for your prayers- sending up ones for you also.

  27. Suzanne Wingfield says:

When we raised sheep, every year we had a different theme for naming the spring lambs. One year it was flowers and when you get a baby boy…you name him Yarrow. He was the sweetest ram ever…even when he was mature and very handsome. Ewe would have loved him too….

–Suzanne, who waited until she was 66 to get her first colonoscopy!

  28. PatKinon says:

Happy Sunday to you Susan ! Love your cup of flowers, so encouraging I have been a fan of your work for years and have many of you books. Our family has traveled for vacation to Cape Cod for years we love it so. Keep inspiring!

  29. Tamara says:

Hi Susan and a Happy Sunday to you!
I’m a new follower to your blog and though I’m a little lost reading the comments, I wanted to leave a little note anyway. I AM SO EXCITED and BLESSED to have found you! (I found it through the Ohio Country Register.)OMGOODNESS.. what a special place filled with joy, inspiration and beauty! Your art is so uplifting. And your sweet spirit feeds my soul. Truly. I felt an instant connection. Miss Potter is one of my favorite movies. Her art and life have been an inspiration. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely work and life here. I look forward to visiting often. The little lamb is so sweet. How perfect for thoughts of spring and your words of wisdom from your book are thought provoking, indeed. 🙂

    Blessings to you,
    Tamara

    • sbranch says:

Oh! Good to know about the Country Register ~ I wondered if I “registered” to people there! I did to you, and that’s great, Tamara!

  30. Shelley brown griffin says:

  31. Faith from WI says:

I love your your cheery sunshiney blog in the middle of our cold winter! Just yesterday I was thinking of a scrapbook page I need to do for a friend and her family who lost their 13 yr old son this winter in a freak farming accident. I ran across this saying ” A mother holds her childrens hands for a little while, but holds their hearts forever”. I thought to myself this is perfect just what I need for my page! Now if I was a painter artist I’d draw a mothers hands holding a heart with her sons name on it and seven more little hearts around her hands with the other childrens names on them and have this saying painted above it”Parents hold their childrens hands for a little while but hold their hearts forever!”. I can picture it in my mind but not draw what I want so maybe I can find a picture somewhere. Gods blessings on your day friend! –Faith

    • sbranch says:

Oh my goodness Faith, how good you are to be planning a memorial, how sad for those parents…thirteen! So young.

    • Sweet Sue says:

What a lovely tribute you have in your heart for your friend …… hope you find the picture you can place with the verse. Yes, life here on this earth is so very precious yet we do hold the love and memories in our hearts of our loved ones and if we and our loved ones have accepted Jesus Christ into our hearts as Lord and Savior then we will be together for eternity as Jesus has given us the gift of eternal life. Praise the Lord! Have a blessed day dear sweet Faith!

  32. Claudia Lacusta says:

The Music you pick, the flow of your watercolors and last but not least,
your ‘happy gene’ are all soooo enjoyable. Your blog is eye candy and
the music transports me to another place in time. Thank you. Thank
    you for being YOU!

  33. Treese says:

    Happy Sunday to you too!
    Treese/Colorado Cowgirl

  34. Toni P. says:

Dear Susan – Thank you so much for the cheery note. Maybe if we all respected ourselves more – we would be kinder to others – because that’s what “self respecting” folks do. When I first read your message I saw that big blank where your message was – like another girlfriend mentioned. I had to go to your home site to read it – I think it just took my computer too long to download it and that was the problem. Happy Sunday!

    • sbranch says:

Oh good, thank you for that explanation. I’m not sure that’s happened before. Maybe the art was “too big” to download.

  35. Carla says:

Ever since I turned the February page on my calendar and spotted the little pink pitcher, which looks for all the world like a Homer Laughlin Fiesta ware pitcher, I’ve been meaning to write. I have 2 of those pitchers in blue (the pink is a retired color). We go to the outlet near our hometown in Ohio whenever we go to visit and it is always a ton of fun in the seconds room! Now you have posted your lamb cake, and that triggered the memory of making those when my girls were small. The mold has gone to live with my older daughter so she can make them for her children. Then the book – I have a collection of books written and illustrated by Tasha Tudor and just bought that one! I always seem to find a point of connection whenever I read your blog, and it is always a happy one. Thank you for your cheery “letters.” They are always a friendly addition to my “mailbox” and always bring a smile.

  36. miriam says:

Happy Sunday to you as well, Susan! Just wanted to say that I have seen lamb cakes before but NOTHING like yours!!!!! Why am I not surprised!!!! You make everything so much MORE adorable! Your creativity is amazing……(I think that I say this alot in my comments!) So glad to hear that the colonoscopy went well for you……….tomorrow will mark three weeks since my total knee replacement and I was dreading that so much too. It went amazingly well and even though there is a little post-op discomfort it is so nice to walk on a knee that is no longer bone on bone!! I’m in the “penalty phase” now where the p.t. staff are heartless!!!!!! 😉 Hugs to you!!

  37. Melissa says:

Your instructions for the lamb cake make me believe I can bake one successfully.

Thanks for staying cheerful in the winter and sharing that gift with us.

    Have a wonderful week.

    Melissa

  38. Linda Pintarell says:

What can I say, Susan…you are one cool lady…loved today’s blog. Thank you.

AND,,,what about ABBY for the name of the lamb. We are all like it…very much!

    • Elaine in Toronto says:

I like that name, Abby, for the lambkin. So cute and fits right in with Downton. Thanks, Linda for the suggestion.

  39. Darlene Osborn says:

Spring, begining of new and rebirth of old. Love it and inspired by all the catalogs that come in the mail for new seeds, plants, bushes, etc. The lamb is darling but so impressed by the book. It would be a welcomed addition to have a good read and a piece of cake to go with it! Thank you for bits and pieces of your life you can share with us. Darlene

  40. Valerie White says:

I am watching the Beatrix potter movie again after reading about your visit to Hill Top in A Fine Romance. What a lovely way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon!

  41. Vickie says:

    Happy Sunday Susan,
I love love your blogs, my 9 grand babie boys would love for MawMaw to make a cake out of that mold..so cute and vintage..luv to you!

  42. Anne says:

Hooray for hearts and flowers! Thank you for speeding up my spring fever! Enjoyed a pleasant sunny Sunday on our deck now that the seashore air and the bright rays have joined together to melt the last bit of snow here at the Jersey shore! So looking forward to the beauty of Easter…took time to enjoy my 1941 edition of Tasha Tudor’s “A Tale for Easter”…”You can never really tell, for anything might happen on Easter.”
Thank you for bringing so much enjoyment to my life Susan! We ARE so lucky!

  43. shirley burt says:

    Sweet Susan,
Once again you have brightened our day, given words of encouragement along with a pep talk, some very important things to think about and love. We thank you Susan for caring so deeply about us and the world around us. Making us stop to smell and think about the flowers in whatever form they take.
Oh, I must tell you, I gave “THE BOOK” to my friends Christmas. They are so sweet and have both been fighting cancer and are in remission. Drinda is reading THE BOOK her husband, a chapter each night. They love it and cannot bear the thought of it ending. I told Drinda not to worry, you were going to start a new book of un-named content and I would make sure she received a copy. So my artistic friend, you have some new followers. Your fame grows daily.
Your lamb cake recipe will be baked in my rabbit pan with the sticks in his ears for my neighbors birthday. Doesn’t matter that he is 45ish. He will think it is quite normal for his older neighbor to bake him a rabbit cake. Your lamb was too cute.
    Much love and bunny hugs,
    Shirley

  44. Kathie says:

Being the age I am (we are) I can’t remember if I signed up for the drawing or not. I have to have a lamby-cake, though, so I’m going to draw and cut and frost my own little version for Easter. We’re gearing up for spring, with 2 inches of fresh snow on the ground! Wow! After a “black winter” (as my grandmother from Minnesota called it), this is really bright and fantastic. But we can get ready. Getting ready this year involves tearing the kitchen apart to put in a wood cooking range, a small one, next to my electric range. I am soooooo excited. Also, buying seeds and planning the garden. Lots to do. Thank you for all you do. We’re looking forward to hearing more about your new book. Cheers.

  45. Linda Ishmael says:

I would love to win the lamb cake mold and especially the cookbook. I have several Tasha Tudor books and would love to add this one to my collection. And yes I am loving Downton Abbey, too!!!!!

  46. Nettie says:

Beautiful teacup and flowers. What a treat….thank you Susan. Also can’t wait for Downtown……loving the beautiful outfits, especially Cora’s.

  47. Mary says:

Respect and pride. Who would have thought that both of them go together and that pride can be a positive thing? I love that, and the beautiful story that illustrated the points. I always have my colonscopy on time… it brings such a relief of mind to know that everything is working just fine. Hope that lamb cake pan will be mine! Thinking positive thoughts.

  48. Barbara Mentzer says:

Good Evening Susan! Thank you for sharing that memory of your Mother. My Mother liked to dress me up too! I remember the little gloves, pretty Mary Jane shoes and hats at Easter. I’ll be watching “Downton” tonight. Can’t believe I’ve got my husband watching it too!

  49. Dar Bik says:

Oh I love the lamb cake pan. An 85 year old woman in my needlepoint group loves sheepies – she stitches them all the time. So much fun to make her a lamb cake!

  50. Sue G says:

Happy Sunday Susan, what a lovely post with such sunny watercolored flowers and cup. I just spent the day “spring cleaning” and taking down all my winter decorations of snowman and such. Last nights PBS showing of Easter Parade implored for me to begin thinking that the winters snow and cold soon will be a distant memory. I also just happened to pull out my Girlfriends Forever book to display on my table so it was doubly fun to read your post. My friend who gifted me my copy is quite a distance away so I plan to write her a nice long letter this week. Thanks again for your continued inspiration and enjoy your show tonight, I must confess I have never seen it.

  51. Julia montgomery says:

I was thrilled to see the lamb.. I’ve tried to find one for years… Our son died in1973 holding a stuffed lamb.. His grave has a lamb on it and a lamb ornament represents him on the Christmas tree… I would love to have the lamb so I could make it for my grand kids and still have a part of our so around… He may have only been four months old but he’s still our little lamb… Love all you do… Good luck to who ever wins.. Enjoy

  52. Jules says:

    Dear Susan:
How funny! My mother used to tell me the same thing about underwear. Must be a “mom” thing. I always look forward to your posts but today I found it to be good medicine. One of my dearest friends buried her first grandchild today, a beautiful, sweet baby girl. Your post brought a smile to my face and joy in my very heavy heart. Thank you across the many, many miles!

  53. jan from Princeton says:

    Hi Susan,

I’ve been sick for a couple of days and this was a delite to read. I’m SO ready for spring! The cake mold would be a great addition here and I think the name
    “buddy” would be great.
    jan

  54. Jackie says:

Thanks so much for the breath of spring! Here in central Wisconsin we have been buried again with another 6 inches of snow added to our already chest high piles! And we’re anticipating yet another week of sub-zero temperatures. We need many, many thoughts of spring to get us through this winter’s final burst of cold and inconvenience! And the cheeping birdie helps, too!

  55. Connie from Indina says:

Happy Sunday! Have so enjoyed your “Spring” reminders! It has been a long winter in Indiana. My grandchildren would love that little lamb cake!

  56. Michele, Woodstock, Vt. says:

    Good Evening Susan,

What a pleasant surprise to just now find your new blog and I do so love the inspiration that you sent our way and love that mug with the flowers. This weekend has felt almost “springlike” and the maple sugaring season is just around the corner!
A few weeks ago I told a friend of mine she should look you up and see how wonderful your website and blog are. Today she told me how very uplifting your blog has been to her. Her husband has been diagnosed with dementia and she is struggling. So, you have been an inspiration to my friend and I just wanted to let you know that you have touched her life in a positive way.
Almost time for Downton Abbey – what do you think Julian Fellowes has up his sleeves for the grand finale tonight?
Again, thank you Susan for being a special girlfriend to all of us!!!
    Michele

    • sbranch says:

He’s bound to leave us in some sort of quandary! Tell your friend I am so happy to have her (and you!) here.

  57. BookGirlIL says:

    Dear Susan,
Your blog is the bright sun on many a brrr-cold wintry, gloomy day. Thank you for being our cheerful girlfriend and sharing your home, books, and art!

(I like the name “Tulip” for your lamb. The “birth” of the tulips is so exciting every year, for we know Spring is finally here.)

    Lots of love,
    Laura, aka BookGirlIL

  58. Susie J says:

I do not have this book, Susan, so this was such a lovely thing to find and read on a beautiful Sunday. Thank you for sharing – you never fail to brighten my day.

  59. Lynn Cunningham says:

I think your definition of self-respect was as concise and good a definition as I’ve ever read! Anyone would benefit from the reminder to value themselves, as they value others. Your love letters to all of the people who read your blog imparts that message in other ways ~ and always with kindness.

I’m almost finished reading (for the first time, anyway) A Fine Romance. Thank you so much for taking all of us along on that wonderful trip. You really did allow us to see the countryside through your eyes, and I enjoyed it so much!!

Have a happy and fulfilling week! (I can’t wait for Downton Abbey, either)!
    Lynn

  60. Karen Saunders says:

I can’t believe it’s the finale of Downton Abby ALREADY!!!!!! That was so fast…
    Now what do we watch??

    • Sweet Sue says:

      Good Day Dear Karen!

Well, I have just the solution for you…….a great British comedy-drama that my husband and I watch on PBS (Channel 28 in Los Angeles viewing area) is “Doc Martin” with Martin Clunes. It is filmed in the delightful and charming town ofn Port Isaac in Cornwall, England and depicts life in the fictional town of Port Wenn. It is now in its sixth season and such a joy to watch! Hope you can find it in your area and enjoy watching it as much as my husband and I do!
      Joy to you today!

  61. nonnie says:

Happy Sunday, Susan! Thanks for the post . .I always get excited to see you in my email!

  62. Cheryl says:

We are still a long way from Spring, here in Northwester Montana. That’s why I love your Spring reflections and the lambie-pie cake! With tonight’s Downton Abbey season finale, I might as well go into television mourning. I guess I will just have to pop in my DVD of “Miss Potter” and watch it for the 4th time. You mentioned “Jane Eyre” on your list of wonderful movies~was that the one with Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens that was on PBS a few years back? That version is, hands down (in my opinion), the BEST. Happy Sunday! Cheryl

    • sbranch says:

Hands down, so far, it’s the best version I’ve seen!

    • Sweet Sue says:

Cheryl …. no need to be sad because “Downtown Abbey” is no longer able to be viewed. You can still see the best Bristish comedy-drama ever by going to your PBS station and watching “Doc Martin” with Martin Clunes. It is a delightful show filmed in the town of Port Isaac in Cornwall, England depicting village life in the fictional town of Port Wenn. Try it and let me know how you like it! Bless you this day!

Happy Sunday! Reading your blog makes me feel like I’m talking to a best friend who also loves things like housekeeping and lambs 🙂 Thank you for being a lovely and inspiring part of my day! (And I love your tea).

  64. Susan Kellam says:

Had a real treat travelling home today from an antique quilt study group. The roads were lined with blooming pear trees. Beautiful white blooms looked like trees filled with snowflakes!

  65. christine Bell says:

I’m new to your blog, but I just read “A Fine Romance.” I love England (though never been except via BBC) and love journals and books done with watercolor. 🙂

  66. Laureen McNeff says:

Thank you for the pretty Spring inspirations and also for the background on my computer, beautiful quilts!

  67. Donna Klein says:

Happy Sunday to you and all the girlfriends 🙂
It’s a beautiful, sunny and warm day in Vegas. I’ve had a rather lazy day reading and I watched a movie for the first time that I’ve heard you mention more than once. An Affair to Remember. I loved it and feel so silly for not seeing it before. How have I missed it?! I have seen Sleepless in Seattle many times and now I totally understand the tribute.
I googled DA, checking to see if this was going to be the last episode of season 4, and feel sad that it is. While I was there I took a quiz! And am happy to say the quiz says Tom Branson is my DA Bachelor! Try it out girlfriends, it was fun 🙂

  68. Kathleen says:

Thank you for your lovely posts this week. I too am anxiously awaiting Downton Abbey tonight (although sad the season is coming to an end). Also, waiting for Spring and bringing in arms full of forsythia.

  69. Marty Cotton says:

I learn so much from you! I currently have 4 Gladys Taber books next to my bed from the library. I would so LOVE to find the Betty Crocker Kitchen Gardens book! Maybe I will be lucky and win it, but at the very least, now that I know about it I can keep my eyes open for it at antique stores and tag sales-so THANK YOU!! Did you have the Betty Crocker kids cookbook when you were a child? I loved that one-hope I can find an old copy one of these days!

  70. Terri says:

I always get so much when I come here – lovely artwork, inspiring words and then there are the unexpected little gifts the girlfriends give in the comments – like the cherry on top! I’ll definitely have to look for Miss Fidcher’s Murder Mysteries, now that I know about them. Right now, I’ve been binge-watching past episodes of Downton Abbey, trying to get caught up…almost there. Someone here asked if they should watch past episodes or just dive in, midstream. Though I wish I’d started when everyone else did, I know I’m glad I’ve watched (almost) all the past ones. I wouldn’t want to have missed any of it (even the sad ones 🙁 .
Back to Downton bingeing, now… Happy Sunday!

  71. Carol McS says:

    Good Afternoon, Susan…
It’s still Sunday! And 73˚ in San Gabriel, CA.
I just want to share with you about your Girlfriends book….I recently bought it in a darling cook book store in Pasadena, and read it from cover to cover. It so reminded me of my own youth. I still have girlfriends from those 50s years. The book also reminded me of one of them, my dear friend, Sheila, also my Maid of Honor in 1957! So, the last time I saw her, a couple of weeks ago, I added a “Forever Friends” notation in front of the book, and passed it on to her. She was THRILLED! As I was. Thank you for your wonderful writing and artistry….we Girlfriends are all better for it. (Now I have to buy another copy for myself! It’s so worth it.)
Tonight IS Downton Abbey…..what do you think Bates was doing in York?
    Stay Tuned.
    Hugs and Squishes…….Carol.

  72. Diane says:

Wonderful reminders, Susan! I am going to talk with my students about this tomorrow. Especially, about the right kind of pride and what that looks like. Thanks so much for sharing!

  73. Debby says:

Dear Susan, that Jack is the cutest thing ever. You need to have a Jack a Day…a picture of that charming guy everyday! Thanks for all your beautiful work. I LOVED your new book. Debby

  74. Heidi says:

Hello Susan! Have loved you and your books and artwork since I was in my 20’s and first saw your work in Country Living. I knew you were a kindred spirit <3. I love Downton Abbey too! Thanks for making our lives more beautiful!

  75. Good Evening Susan!

I wanted to say that opening my email to the way-too-cute picture of you and your beautiful lamb, made my day all the more special. I especially like your glasses and the look on your face – too cute! 🙂

You have so inspired me with watercolor painting – I’ve been working so hard. Maybe someday you can give me some tips. I have noticed that since I started practicing everyday, something has begun to take shape – some personal colors and style are slowly emerging… I’m really excited and very blessed to have a wonderful mentor like you. Thank you for sharing your beauty with the world! We love you!

“emerging” is such a good word! I don’t think, once begun, if you continue, “emerging” ever stops!

  76. Debby says:

Dear Susan, not sure my reply was accepted so will try once more. That Jack could not get any cuter. You are so lucky, more pictures of him please! Loved you new book. Debby

  77. Suzie Delezenne says:

    Hello Susan!
I am a relatively new fan/”friend” and have fallen in love with your blog. The comments today on self-respect hit home and are a reminder as to what’s really important in life. Thank you!!

  78. Jackie P says:

    Hi Susan,
Today a customer came in to the antique shop where I work and bought a vintage silver rattle in the shape of Peter Rabbit only because she adores Beatrice Potter. Of course, I had to mention you and your blog since you are also a huge admirer. Well, she informed me that she had just finished reading your book, AFR! We talked about the part when you drove up to Hill Top for the “trial run” and wound up touring the house then and there. It was thrilling all over again. It is a small world, yes?

  79. Karen says:

Your blog highlights the charm and beauty in everyday moments. So worthwhile !

  80. Romy Silvester says:

Good Sunday evening Susan. Right now it is about 45 minutes until this season’s Downton Abbey finale. The time goes so quickly that it’s here and gone again for another year. Well, I just love that cute lamb cake and right now I am invisioning having a (very large) piece. My sweet tooth is calling. Well, since spring reminds me of Easter and the Lamb of God and of course the flower for all of this is the Easter Lilly, I thought “Lovely Lilly Lamb” cake would be a “fine romantic” name for the cake. Also, “Love of a Lamb cake”. Just a few thoughts to add to the many you have already received. Your waiting for spring and here in West Palm Beach, we are hoping for a little more winter. Take care and give those babies of yours kisses from me. That means all three of them.
    Romy S.

  81. Mary says:

You have inspired me many things but the latest being Downton Abbey. Enjoy tonight’s episode!

  82. Marty says:

My daughter and I love everything “Susan Branch!”

  83. Janet Hundley - Grafton, WI says:

My wonderful mother-in-law, who is now in hospice care, would very often sign off a phone call or a voice mail message by saying, “Love you, Dear Hearts.”

  84. Jeanene says:

Thank-you for giving us all a “breath of Fresh Air” to breathe in the oncoming season in all its glory! Hope Springs Eternal! The Hope of spring right around the corner makes me to walk briskly towards it. Thanks for the assistance!

  85. LISA HAY says:

I think I must be the only woman in the world who doesn’t watch Downtown Abbey! I’m still in the Girlfriends club, right? 🙂 I do love all things SB! Thanks for all the inspiration!
    Love and Hugs,
    Lisa

  86. Anita J Hunting says:

  88. Nettie says:

Hi girlfriend, We have had a beautiful sunny day here today….it almost felt like spring was in the air. I was happy to check my email and see a new blog to enjoy. You certainly are an inspiration.
Speaking of girlfriends, I am off in a few days to reconnect with childhood girlfriends for a vacation together in the sunny south. Four of us actually made our First Communion together fifty nine years ago! Isn’t that amazing? So the power of girlfriends is real stuff, we just keep on connecting and caring for one another. We have been through a lot of life experiences and our friendship has never wavered.
If I win that cake pan I will make them a cake and have a tea party..enjoy your day. Oh yeah I will be sharing with my girlfriend Debbie too!

  89. Cyndi in NC says:

Vanna IS brilliant! Pick a great name…oh wait, they’re all great names!! Oh my that cake sounds so good! I can almost smell it baking in my kitchen. Will have to make one. And what could be better than a lamb mold!!!! It would be wonderful to win this but happy baking to whoever does win it!! Hugs to all and stay warm gals!

  90. Kate says:

Boo-hoo, the last Downton Abbey of the season. Am sitting here anxiously awaiting the ending. Will it be a cliff hanger, sad or happy? Will someone die or will Bates be in trouble again? OOOOh, can’t wait to see.

  91. Sharon says:

I love your little lamb cake, and actually everything about your blog. It gives me a place to visit and forget about things for a few minutes. Very inspiring

    Dear Susan,

I can’t tell you how much I enjoy your whole website, blog and all. I first was drawn to your watercolors then the recipes and now I’m always checking my email in the hopes there will be another to feast over! It would be great to see a new post everyday! But I’m not complaining, they truly are inspiring. I also love JACK, I could use a picture of him and his antics everyday too!
I’m also a huge all things Downton Abbey fan.
I hope you never retire, sorry Joe!
