Ray's terrier collection

But while I’m here, I think we should get a little fun out of life! One of our Girlfriends asked to see a close-up of Ray and Paul’s Terrier collection that was glimpsed in one of the photos in the post below . . . so here they are!  On a shelf in her kitchen. (Ray’s version of Beatrix Potter figurines!)  When we went to visit Ray and Paul in England, Joe and I brought the little dog on the far left.  He’s made of iron and very heavy for his size. Aren’t little collections like this wonderful?  No two alike!

It’s not in my DNA to do such a short post, I’ll be back soon, but here’s a little food for thought for your Sunday . . .

King of Intimate delights

Weather-wise we’ve had it all this winter on Martha’s Vineyard ~ sheets of ice on the kitchen porch, sleet and snow that “chill and bite,” wild winds beating at the windows ~ the temperature fluctuates wildly: my first house in the snowyesterday it was 20° with a misty ice-fog in the air, the foghorn blew all day; this morning it’s 40°, grey and raining.  Cars drive by, I hear their tires slapping the road. Joe made us a fire; he’s reading the paper in front of it with crackle and pop and ashes falling, tick of wind-up clock, rustle of pages turning; Foreign Correspondent with Joel McCrea is on the TV in my studio; Jack is giving himself a bath on my art table, Girl is curled on the back of Joe’s couch, and I’m saying hello to you and getting ready to spend the day painting; wending our way through life ~  “God’s in his heaven, all’s right with the world” here in Smallville.

O’ Winter, King of the MOST Intimate of Delights . . .

And tonight, Girlfriends?  For frosting on the cake and “continuous small pleasures?” Downton Abbey!  Be there or be square! Wob you, Me.

Lucky us

  2. Lynn Marie says:

Good Morning! We are in the 40’s here today too in Northern Indiana. The Hubs went to church and I am home nursing the last of my Whooping Cough. Looking forward to slowly resuming some activities outside of the house. Gearing up for Downton Abbey tonight!! Happy Sunday, Susan!
P.S. Everyone please go get you DTP booster shot! Better safe than sorry and it is good for 10 years. Mine obviously must have been more that 10 years ago.

    • sbranch says:

Wow, you don’t hear much about whooping cough anymore; hope you’re feeling better Lynn!

      • Margot ~~~ Virginia Beach says:

Yes, there has been a resurgence since some folks were not vaccinating their children. Adults get it worse and the medical field is urging would be grandparents to get their boosters so the new babies don’t get it.

  3. Marie (Long Beach, California) says:

What a beautiful little post to read and have my morning tea. You and many of the girlfriends aren’t going to believe this, but I have just begun watching Downton Abbey! 😮 I’m totally addicted as is my husband. We have watched Season 1 and 2, and are now on Season 3. I can’t believe what a phenomenal show it is! 🙂 I now understand what all the excitement is all about! Happy Sunday! With love and joy! ♥

  4. Kay Johnson says:

Love your blogs….I am in Fairhope, Al but spend a good deal,of time in Vineyard Haven. Will be watching Downton Abbey…love it!

  5. Amy Nicole says:

What a nice cozy post for this morning! Thank you for the opportunity to enter (even us last minute people!). Can’t wait for Downton tonight!

  6. Meg Schweitzer says:

I have had your book forever on Christmas! It is our Christmas cookie tradition every Christmas Eve along with putting pictures on our fridge of past Christmases and people long gone. How wondrous to find your blog this morning and read about your Sunday.
We will walk around our Lake Loveland this morning with the Rockies as company,
read the paper, talk to family, and enjoy our our little family room. How absolutely lovely to have discovered your blog!!!!!

  7. Patricia Ayala says:

Dear Susan, what a sweet post to wake up to,
sounds like a lovely Sunday you will be having, miss seeing pictures of the kitties. xoxoxo

  8. susie says:

Hi Susan, The way you described how everyone was comfy in your home today, just sounds so cozy. Our weather the yesterday was almost springlike. Today is cloudy and cooler. But most of our snow melted, that’s nice. Blessings to you, Joe and your kitty kids. xoxo,Susie

    • sbranch says:

Same to you Susie, we’re up to 44* and the rain has stopped ~ going out for a walk — don’t want to miss the moment of warmth!

  9. Gail Gismondi says:

Dear Susan, Your post brought so much cheer this morning. The dreary weather has gotten to me lately, but reading your blog always reminds me of the good things we have and the inspiration to continue creating for my own little shop. How much joy art can bring! My Siamese purrs contentedly by my side whenever I am working.

Thank you for your beautiful words and art, and the reminders of the truly good life.

  10. Georgie Bonsanto says:

Yes… Give Miss Vanna another day to rest up for the tough job ahead!

Freezing rain here. Cold and slippery. Definitely a stay at home by the fire with a cup of tea kinda day!

    XOXO Georgie NJ

  11. Candice OHIO says:

    Dear Susan,
What a nice surprise to have a post first thing on a Sunday morning from you! Lovely way to start the day! Plus I Love, Love, Love this EB pink hearts teapot!! Perfect for the love of tea anytime of year!! I would be over the moon to win the teapot and the SB special blend. What a great way to start each morning!! My pot of tea (Red Rose) is steeping right at the moment on my kitchen counter with my handmade tea cozy on it. I will be pouring a cup shortly. Today in NW Ohio it is cloudy and rain is in the forecast, yesterday was like an early Spring day, almost 50 degrees, which melted quite a bit of all of the snow we had on the ground. We had the freezing fog during the week too which turned everything into a winter wonderland! I just had to brave the freezing cold and take some photos! It doesn’t happen very often to have a hoar frost, sort of a weather phenomenon.
I am looking forward to the next give-away announcement!! Enjoy your Sunday!!
    Hugs,
    Candice

  12. Nancy Shuey says:

What a dreary Sunday here in PA! I am dying to get out for my walk, but again, the weather is not cooperating. Reading your post brightened my day though Thanks.

  13. Mary Pacey says:

You make winter sound so enjoyable. I do enjoy the quietness of a thick snow and love the excuse to stay inside. Your description is so “warm and fuzzy”. I guess I’m glad we don’t hibernate and miss all the beauty that snow can bring. On that note, our paper today says it will be 61 degrees–not the normal for the center of the US! Sometime this winter we will get the type of snow which blankets everything the eye can see.
    Stay warm and comfortable.

  14. Elisabeth Olijnsma (the Netherlands) says:

    Hi Susan,

Have a wonderful, cozy Sunday! Here in the Netherlands, it is supposed to snow today, but all we are getting so far is melted snow, often referred to as RAIN. Plain, simple and dull rain. Maybe it will change when it gets dark and colder… it’s 4.07 p.m. now. We’ll just have to wait and see!

  15. Carole says:

Your blog is so lovely and it makes me want to visit Martha’s Vineyard again. I’ve only seen it in summer, so it’s nice to see the area in winter. I live in sunny California, but I miss the snow. Sometimes. 🙂
    Looking forward to Downton tonight!

  16. Carolyn from the great Northwest says:

    Good Morning Susan,
Yesterday turned rainy and quite gloomy but in spite of the weather we celebrated a life well lived. The memorial service for a beloved friend was truly a celebration of her life. She was a blessing to all who knew her……..a friend to many and a servant of love to those she found in need. Although we who loved her will miss her presence in our lives, she lived out the “Golden Rule”……..”Do unto others as you would like for them to do to you”. She will be remembered throughout the rest of our lives………until we meet again Gerri!

  17. Wendy Louise says:

    Darling Susan,
Just had to send a little note of LOVE ! Now, I am venturing out to gather strength ,wisdom, and count all my blessings out loud, for a walk along the mighty Merrimac River with the ones that I LOVE ! oxoxoxoxoxoxox Thank-you for your unending Love and attention !

  18. Sunny W says:

Good Morning! It’s 35*, not snowing right now, and is toasty warm inside. We lost our beloved mailbox last night; a young man went sideways on the road, took out 2 large foundation stone blocks beside our driveway and impaled our swing-away mailbox poles into his car’s wheel well. He had the stone blocks underneath his cars and the mailbox was on his windshield. He was going too fast. We dug his car out, pulled out the stone blocks and got out the big truck to pull him out of the ditch. He wasn’t hurt. Yeah! Our mailbox has been there for ages; now we’ll get to work on repairing the mess. It took some elbow grease to get his car out of deep snow. Saturday night madness! Sunday morning is blessedly calm. Enjoy your mailbox that is not dangling 6″ above ground!

  19. Elaine in Toronto says:

Susan, thank you so much for posting the photo of Rachel and Paul’s little dog collection. Such fun to see. I, too, have a modest collection of dogs with a few cats sprinkled in between to liven things up. (I think they chase each other about when we’re not looking.) My favourite is a china terrier with a newspaper in his mouth. Enjoy your walk – wow 44° that’s pretty nice for January. Your Sunday sounds very cozy and warm. And then, later, Downton!

  20. Today I’m putting the finishing touches on paper doily banners (remember those?) and coffee filter flowers to decorate our booth at Road to California next weekend. My motto for the year is, “Leave a trail of glitter wherever you go” so I’m attaching tiny bags of glitter with that saying to our contact information to hand out. The preparation is so much fun. For all our girlfriends in southern California come see us and say hi. Enjoy your Sunday everyone.

  21. Nancy T. says:

We have over 3 feet of snow on the ground here in Northern New York! Heading out on the snowshoes with the camera to catch all
the beauty. We don’t let a little snow spoil our walk!!!! Happy Sunday! 🙂

  22. Patty says:

love your blog, I only recently discovered it! I bought my niece your “A Fine Romance” for Christmas, she lives in London, I thought she could get some good ideas for traveling from someone familiar.. she loves it! thank you Susan!

  23. Mary Lou Cummings says:

Great to see your new blog. We’re having a freezing mist here in Conn. for most of the a.m. Isn’t it crazy what people will find in the background of your photos!? Years ago my mother began a similar horse and dog collection for my two daughters that she found at many a flea market. Then we has to buy curio cabinets to display them – but was lots of fun. Watching Downton tonight for sure!

  24. Patti says:

Please enter my name for the tea pot give a way. I would love to win. It was in the 40’s yesterday here in Detroit and all the restaurants in the evening were crowded. I think our weather broke for the day and everyone just wanted to come outside. But alas, today while 40 degrees, it is very cloudy and not very nice

  25. chris consentino says:

oh, my goodness!!!! what a divine sunday-treat!!!! didn’t expect to be so “shake-my-head” surprised today. nice. very nice. I’ve been saying “can’t-feel-my-feet” , seems like forever…..and THAT is INSIDE. hmm. but….I truly enjoyed your word-pictures!!!! I’m a cold-weather person (HATE the HEAT!!!), but the older one’s feet get…the more they just DO NOT warm up, yes?? oh, well. could always be worse. I’m totally renewed and refreshed by your LOVELY post. awaitng NE Patriots game this evening….they had better finish by 9:00pm, tho….and, gotta save some snax for our visit @ downton!!!!! wow. have a great sunday, everyone!!!!! keeeep cozy!!!!! and, Susan….thanks, again and always!!!!!!

  26. diana from ancaster says:

spending a cozy drizzly Sunday by the fire, knitting needles and tea
can it get any better? it can- new blog post from dear Susan!
    enjoy the day.

  27. Your post makes me want to leave sunny CA and go somewhere colder so I can have a cozy evening by the fire! In fact, for almost the past two weeks we’ve had Spare the Air days here and haven’t been allowed to have wood-burning fires because the air quality has been so poor. Here’s hoping for some wind to blow out all the icky stuff.

That terrier collection — darling! I love it.

    • sbranch says:

When I lived in California, many years ago, one year we rented a house in the snow for a family Christmas. It was HEAVEN!

  28. Judy Dow says:

My hubby and I watched Foreign Correspondent last night! We love old movie s! Great to have on in the winter! The weather in Indiana has had it all, too! Sub-zero temps last week, then 40 yesterday when a local ice festival was being held. Sadly the sculptors had to stop because of melting ice. If variety is the spice of life our weather has sure spiced things up this January! Enjoy this inside cozy time. Thank you for the post!

  29. Mary Hobart says:

Love your blogs. They make me feel cozy just reading them.

  30. Lorraine says:

We’ve had a bit of a roller coaster ride too – weather-wise… Yesterday was in low 40s (suburb of Chicago) and similar forecast for today… However, in a couple days, back to the 20s… It was still nice to have a little break from the cold – we’ve enjoyed it and used it to clean up the surprises left by our two dogs… Enough said…

I wondered if Paul received his gift yet. I’m sure he will love it. So much fun – its nice to share that joy. Thank you.

Looking forward to Downton tonight (Yay!!!) – especially, after that little cliff hanger at the end of last week.

I’m hopeful I’ll win the teapot and tea.

    • sbranch says:

The painting is there, in England, but Paul’s birthday isn’t until the 29th . . . and since it’s an important birthday, there will be lots of celebration ~ Rachel is saving it for the big event.

  31. Linda Michael says:

Thank you for the lovely blog on this dreary (slippery!) morning in southeast Pennsylvania. You mentioned the fog horn. I wondered if it evokes the same feelings as hearing a train whistle? I live about1/2 mile away from a train crossing – is it just me, or is there something relaxing about hearing a train whistle at dusk while rocking on the front porch (in warm weather, preferably!)?

  32. Robyn Genau says:

    Good morning Susan,
Just finished up my breakfast dishes. Went out to feed the birds and squirrels at the feeders. Its overcast here today but a tiny bit warmer. We have been in the deep freeze here in No. Ky. I can actually see daffodil bulbs sticking their heads up in the flower beds. I can’t hardly believe it. So strong and determined.
Getting my son packed up to send back to college after his long break. Will miss him so much but than my husband and I can get back to our empty nest routine. That’s until he comes home again! Love that kid. Have a wonderful day .I feel the stirrings of a pot of chicken soup on the stove for later. Robyn

  33. Mary Whiting says:

    Good Sunday, Susan,
Love this Sunday – a quiet day with my Rick, looking over my new Christmas books, (I started collecting books with a Christmas theme a few years ago), A cup of your Earl Grey tea and a fire in the fireplace. And watching the wonderful ‘Downton Abbey” in my p.j.’s under a quilt. Love our Sunday Smallville….
    Enjoy yours, too!

    XO Mary

  34. Corinne says:

We are having a much deserved January thaw here in the upper Midwest. Also looking forward to the next installment of Downton Abbey, my guilty pleasure! Have a wonderful day!

  35. Ellen V says:

    Looooooove the doggie collection!

  36. Jennifer says:

My mother-in-law bought each of her daughters and me your Fine Romance book last year. We all have enjoyed it. I read the passages about driving in England out loud to my husband before we went to England last June. I wanted to give him a picture of a couple navigating driving on the opposite side of the road together in harmony. Nevertheless I insisted our 22 year old daughter sit in the co-pilots seat while I sat in the back. My dear husband gets a bit wound up just driving here in the states! By the way we had a great trip.

  37. Joanne says:

55 sunny degrees here in Ventura on Sunday morning, my first day off in a week. I’m in my pjs in bed drinking tea & reading your wonderful blog. I taped Joel McCrea’s Foreign Correspondent to watch today and am looking forward to Downton Abbey tonight. Ain’t life grand!

  38. Lori Hendricks says:

The simple joys of home and family are the most
wonderful gifts Life can give us.
Thank You for your drawings (Art) that make “Home”
    speak to us~

  40. Vickie in Cleveland says:

Susan, even your short posts make us all feel warm and cozy!
We don’t have a fireplace, and football will be the main focus today for my guys, while I will be cutting fabric and doing some sewing. Our snow has mostly melted, and it is dreary here, too, but we’ll stay warm inside!
    Vickie in Cleveland

  41. Mary says:

    Dear Susan ,
Nothing better than a comfy Sunday morning, and Downton for the night ! Life is Good! So, enjoy your day and enjoy the warmth.
    Mary

  42. Mary says:

    Please moderate me. Pretty please.

  43. Carol Maurer~~~~ Kennewick, Wa says:

What a sweet little post for a Sunday morning of delightful reading. Just finishing up on the computer and about to turn it off, but thought I’d check….. you never do know when we’ll see a new post.

Those dogs of Rachel and Pauls are darling! Yes, it’s such fun to collect little things such as those.

The weatherman was right on for the weekend. Rained all day yesterday and windy last night. It’s still windy, but not so much. The clouds aren’t as dark either. Is suppose to be some sun this afternoon.

We will be hurrying home from church today to start watching the football game with the Seahawks playing for a spot on Super Bowl. We’re all thinking just how neat it would be for them to be in the Super Bowl again this year. Go Hawks!!!! 🙂

    Til next time…..
    Carol M

  44. Stella says:

Be sure to watch the British Baking Show right before Downton. It’s great!

  45. Rachel Lucas says:

Hi everyone! I’ve just realised how much our fox terrier collection has grown since Sue took that photo…almost 3 years ago! I’ve sent a fresh photo so maybe it will appear somewhere soon. Good luck with the giveaway…fabulous prizes…and Happy Sunday girlfriends!! Xoxo

  46. Maryellen says:

Sunday nights have become “Must See TV” night for me. I am in love with all the home bakers on the Great British Baking Show, then Downton (which I have to watch another time during the week for all the nuances I miss) and I am so looking forward to the premier of Grantchester!!!

  47. Pat E says:

Glad to see more frequent posts. Although today we are having one of our many days of actual sunshine, and temperatures in the upper 50s, the 30s are just around the corner. Fortunately, a day with a Susan blog post is a day of sunshine so keep them coming. Not only are they charming and like a note from a friend, they are an inspiration! And the odd Willard is always welcome too! Stay warm!

  48. Marian Yeckinevich says:

You are such a delight. You paint such lovely pictures both in the mind and on paper. Happy Sunday.

  49. Julie says:

  53. Cindy from West Chester PA says:

It’s a, chill you to the bone, rainy day here. Horrible icy roads this morning, all the bridges in Philadelphia were closed. But the roads to “Smallville” are, as always, a Sunday drivers dream. Thanks for the comfy, cozy post. By the way, the Swedish Hearts and Love banners came yesterday……Love them!
    See you at Downton,
    Cindy

  54. Denise S says:

Whenever I read the other comments, I am struck by how everyone gets something different from even a short post. I am loving, loving, loving the picture of the terrier collection!! And I am a cat person. But there is something about this type of unique collection that is so engaging that I can’t help but smile and now I am bound to look at it five times today. I think there just might be such a thing as a collecting gene or genes. And I’ve got it. I am glad Susan that you said you gave them one of the little dogs for a present. Isn’t that one of the great thrills of life, to give someone the perfect find? Thanks for sharing.

  55. Barbara Reynolds says:

That is one thing Ray and I have in common. I too have a WHFT named Hanna. And I also have a collection of dogs that look like her. I was lucky. One day I went into a local antique store and bought someone else’s collection. I have added to that of course!! Even though Hanna is old and stone deaf….she is bouncey, trouncey, flouncey and fun, fun, fun!!

  59. Diane L. says:

Thank you for another heartwarming post. . . short and sweet. It is 50 in Portland, Oregon — rainy, somewhat windy. A good day to re-read Pride & Prejudice, my 3 kitties and me.

  62. Sharon (Ashland OR) says:

    Hello
I wanted to add my name to your drawing. Thank you for the opportunity. Katie Brown had tea sandwiches on Create this am. I want to mention one I never would have thought of is a ham slice and marmalade on rye/pumpernickel…interesting. FYI…Have a cozy day. <3

I just love to read these posts. They’re always so warm and cozy. Thank you

  67. So grateful for your posts, SUSAN, be they long or short. I love them all in detail!
My previous first and only reply ever to you contained an automatic word correction that was awful and sadly went unnoticed by me. So in fear that message was scratched out to the garbage of a cyberspace collection, I Re-enter my name for your drawing.
A long tome, perhaps 30 year fan from Michigan, JoAnn

  68. Sheryl Martin says:

Ribs in the oven, jigsaw puzzle out, hockey on tv. This is what winter Sunday afternoons are all about. Thank you for sharing your joys through the blog. Blessings to you!

    • sbranch says:

Thank you for not telling us too much, we are totally enthralled. Last night was SO interestingly complicated and nuanced. My homework for this week will be to watch it over and over until I get it all figured out.

  72. queenie says:

Susan, Love the Terrier collection! As usual, you brighten my day!

  73. Sarah says:

It’s almost spring-like here in Texas. Susan, I thought of you yesterday. We were down at the beach visiting friends at their beach house. I took my dog for a walk on the beach, and I always pick up a few shells on the beach. I found one that I picked up for the colors, but when I got it back up to the house, we discovered it had a perfect heart shaped cut out in it! How did the water do that? I know you love to collect heart shaped shells, and I thought of you. I’ll try to send you a picture of it. It made me happy. 🙂

  74. Patti E. says:

Happy Sunday to you! My fingers are still crossed!

  75. shirley burt says:

Sweet Susan, How I relish your posts. Thank you. Johnny is at the lake on this 60 degree day, he could not wait a moment longer. It is a little private lake where we inherited a trailor house. Lots of oak trees. But I stay home, and bake a Lemon-lime poundcake to take to Drinda and the Folk Art Ladies tomorrow. And I have had the best, although overwhelming time, reorganizing my fabric stash. Heaven for me, and the lake is heaven for him. That is what makes to world go round, something fabulous for each heart.
    Off to glaze the cake.
    Love and bunny hugs,
    Shirley

  76. Arline in LA says:

Love the Terrier collection. Just noticed that Emma Bridgewater has 3 new cat mugs for us cat people. They are darling. Do you think the SB store might get them in? Arline in Burbank

Truly? I don’t understand your giveaways. I cannot easily find the exact way to enter any of them. Is THIS it? And do I need a website to enter? Congratulations to whomever wins !!

    • sbranch says:

THIS is it! 🙂 You don’t need a website . . . they just ask in case you have one and want it connected to your name.

    Happy Sunday, Susan!

I watched Foreign Correspondent last night–great movie! Did you catch the glimpse of Alfred Hitchcock? I love how he makes a brief appearance in his movies. There is nothing cozier than a day inside when the weather is wintery outside. I’m also looking forward to tonight’s Downton Abbey episode, and it sounds like another good Masterpiece show is beginning tonight after DA.

I suppose I am going to have to check out Downton Abbey tonight because I certainly don’t want to be square! 🙂

  85. Nancy says:

Love the little dogs! Stay snug and warm! 64 degrees in my world.

  86. Bonnie says:

Love your Blog. So glad I joined. Good day for reading and a cup of tea here in PA.

  87. We’re in the 40s today as well. Our neighbor across the street is wearing a t-shirt and shorts and washing his car. Can you believe it?!

  88. Debbie says:

It is sunny & in the 40s here in east central IL…what a treat for January! I’ve got a chicken in the oven and the house smells wonderful. I’m looking forward to Downton Abby tonight.

    Dear Susan,
Loved the terrier collection! My family once shared a home with a wonderful Fox Terrier named, Lady (notice I didn’t say, “owned”–who owned whom was debatable!). BUT unfortunately she was smarter than my family and unless you told her each time you opened the door to, “Stay!” she was out like a shot and remained a free agent until she tired enough that she could be caught. Needless to say, her pursuers usually tired first.
Saying, “No!” or “Don’t go out” didn’t work at all–it had to be, “Stay!” She had us pretty well-trained.
Thank you for showing the collection and bringing back some sweet memories.

    Hello Susan,
Well you have lots to look forward to, when watching Downton….We have just finished the series and last night was the EXTRA LONG Christmas special. Lots of things happened, such as the Lord and Lady…Oh and Carson and then, Daisy did….haha, just kidding, I won’t spoil anything for you.
I will tell you though, that I heard there will be another series, so yippee, more to look forward to!
Thank you for another lovely post!
    Best wishes from rainy Holland
    Nicoline

It’s a rainy dreary day in Maryland so I read some of A FINE ROMANCE. Up to Hill Top and a, enjoying the wildflower and the path taken! The forbidden rose and its tears. Yesterday my address came but I havent gotten to it again. I love the ribbon bookmarks in all the cookbooks too which I bought years ago when the Christmas book came out. I have all Susan’s stickers which I bought in Michael’s…use the hearts the most. Thank you Susan.

We will be there, Arnie and I. Wob you too…

We are done with seasons 1 & 2 too.

  93. Jane Franks says:

    Hi Susan:
So nice of you to drop in again so soon! I can just picture the weather going on around you (having recently experienced the Nor’easter there)! It’s been up and down here, too. Our lakes froze over and there was a skiff of snow covering them with Canada Geese marching around wondering what had happened! Before I could get my camera, the ice melted! And it has been in the 50’s the last couple of days.
Slight dilemma with the Pats and Downton Abbey on at the same time here! Might have to surf back and forth, but I suspect Downton will win out! If not, there is always the DVD’s (which are coming!)
    I love Rachel’s terrier collection.
Happy Painting! Lovely “hole up” creative weather!
    Jane xo

Sign me up for the drawing. I am down with a cold, but your beautiful newsletter brightened my day. I originally “found” you by googling for a recipe for lemon curd and your beautiful handwritten and illustrated one turned up.I am so happy to be one of your girlfriends. You are a delight for me.

Cool, wet and windy here in Lakeview Oregon, but nice and cozy inside. Thank you again for brightening up our days! See you tonight at the Abbey!

I love Billie Holiday!!! Thanks for reminding me about Downton Abbey. I forgot it last week but fortunately caught up on it during the week. It is a sunny day in Illinois and we are having a warmer day today. I believe it is supposed to be about 42 today. I’ll take that instead of a snow storm any day. I am off to working on a quilt or doing some embroidering.

  97. Ann says:

What you do matters to so many of us out here in our own Smallvilles. I have a Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt very much like the one the teapot is on, made for me by a dear friend years ago. She’s gone now, but never forgotten.
    Your prizes are awesome!

  98. Nancy Lynn Beck says:

Today is Downton Day, (Sunday for non fans), in my house and I wanted to let you know that I still cook from the original Heart of the Home cookbooks. Have been a fan for eons……Thanks. Lynn

  99. Pat Johnson says:

Alas! You will be happy to know that I began to watch the beginning of Downton!! And I already love love love it! So I can only imagine that I will have to pace myself or I will die and they will find me with it still running on the TV!! Funny…….I am getting ready to go back into my favorite room in the house – small old TV that only shows DVD/VCR stuff – and the room is filled with books and treasures that my kids asked “why are you keeping this stuff?” Close the door and lay on the bed and “vegg!” Have a grand Sunday!! XXXXOOOO

  100. Debbie says:

I couldn’t help but read your words above, in a little sing-song voice in my head! I can picture Joe, sitting cozy by the fire… While I stare at my hubby glued to the football playoff games
