ISN’T IT ROMANTIC . . .

Happy Valentine’s Day Girlfriends!  ♥   Time to click teacups teacup flowersfor Romance! MUSICA  It’s a day for flowers and breakfast in bed, putting hearts in the windows of your house and calling all your Valentine’s to wish them a happy day . . . and being your own Valentine by providing yourself with some romance that’s just your style, a bubble bath and a good book and some sweet memories, and maybe a potato pancake or two.

hearts and roses

all snow all the time

It’s still ridiculous around here and I’m beginning to think it might stay that way!

Love

sunrise

But you have to admit, 10º looks gorgeous! Look at the pale pink sunrise . . . I’m glad I like it because we have another blizzard with “hurricane force winds” coming tonight.

February

But let’s get to the exciting (for me) news: I have almost finished the calendars for 2016!  I have two more months to butterflies in lovedo on the Blotter and that is ALL . . . I’m SO excited because I’ve been longing to get back to writing, and now painting, the new book!  Two MORE PAGES ~ HOORAY!  I’ve been working at breakneck speed to get them done in time . . . many hours each day.  So I’ll take a couple of days off to clean my house, shoot a few rubber bands for Jack, really do nothing, just piddle around, cook something wonderful, and decorate for spring (rising above reality); then, I’ll cuddle on down and finish the new book . . .

hearts

In the meantime, this morning, Joe is still asleep, house is quiet, not a creature is stirring, the cats are curled into fuzzy piles . . . I’m surprising Joe with breakfast in bed . . . this always confuses him ~ I’m not even 100% sure he likes it ~ but he definitely deserves it!

way to a man's heart

fried eggs

His little heart-shaped egg (it’s easy to make, just put an oiled cookie cutter in the bottom of the frying pan and break the egg into it, cover it with a lid so you don’t have to turn it over) and heart-shaped toast on his favorite crabapple plate.  Yes, I know, we are definitely still crazy after all these years.

And for you?  A love bookmark . . . click below, print it on card stock and you have something to give to the one you love, or to the one I love, which would be YOU.

Well, I guess that’s all for now Girlfriends, back to that calendar (I want it done so much!) ~ soon I will sing out to the wind and the sky the immortal words Free at Last, Free at Last, Thank God Almighty, Free at Last! Thanks for sticking with me through thick and thin, especially the thin! Byeee! XOXO

…as busy as you are, dear Susan, I knew you would pull through with a Valentine’s wish for us !! ( see how you are ?!?)..and a very Happy Valentine’s Day to you and Joe as well…and to all our (girl) friends !…it has always been extra dear for me, as it is my first born daughter’s birthday today !!..she has been getting the same weather as you…I texted her the other day and said, as you just did, that your weather has been down right “ridiculous”…and that seems to be an understatement…’so glad that you are almost done with the calendars so you can get on with your new book..take care and with love, as always….

  3. Mardell Lamb says:

Good morning, Susan. Happy Valentine’s to you! I’m sure you’re bundled up & keeping warm. We’re in for an awful storm this weekend with wind chills at -30.

Heart shaped eggs & toast. So cute! Glad you can see the light at the end of the tunnel on your calendar. Bet it’s beautiful. My kitty loves pony tail bands, too! I don’t know who has more fun, her or me? Ha ha.

    XOXO!

    • sbranch says:

Bundled to the nth degree . . . the regular uniform, two sweaters and a shawl! Quite cozy in here! Thank you Mardell!

  4. Marcia A. Sherman says:

2-14-15: Hey! Am I the first comment? Neat!
Happy Heart Day to you too, Susan, and of course Joe and kitties. After reading weather.com I thought to check in with you and see if you had any updates, you may very well be without power. Yikes.
Just wondering if you two had the chance to see the HGTV home of the year? It is on your island, but I do not know exactly where. And yes, I know the island is bigger than is seems; and I do not know if you watch HGTV? All the footage shown has no snow or fall leaves, so it was most likely completed last summer.
It is large and airy and makes me wonder there remains that much available land on your little bit of earth.
well – gotta fly, lots to do here in Southern New Jersey before our part of the storm – will be nothing compared to your end of it. Stay safe and warm.
Really looking forward to that book!
    Marcia in Sewell

    • sbranch says:

It’s over near Edgartown on the way out to Katama, if you’re familiar with the island. We drove by it a few months ago. We have the most wonderful thing here called the Land Bank. Every time someone buys property, a percentage of the price goes into the Land Bank — and with the money, they buy up chunks of the island to remain forever wild. Also, in some places you have to have 10 acres to build, so it’s not too built up here at all, very bucolic. But you’re right, there probably isn’t that much “available land” left. Happy day Marcia!

    • Susan Cohen says:

Hi, Marcia! I’m in Sewell, too! Small world!

  5. Nicoline says:

    Susan,
Am I REALLY the 1st to comment???? A Very Happy Valentine’s day to you!! Thank you SO very much for making my day sweeter, the sky brighter, and all things happier!
I will print out the gorgeous bookmark for my husband and sons, who surprised me this morning with a bunch of lovely pink roses and a cute mug with red heart (bought in Launceton, Cornwall, so even sweeter, than sweet!)
Enjoy this special day, and I’m sending you lots of love and sunshine from Holland

    Susan,

What joy to finish the have-to projects and be able to get on with the truly “fun” ones! you’re absolutely right about the sense of freedom that creates. For today, enjoy it with your best guy, four-footed furrballs, and the knowledge that — and I’m sure I speak for all the girlfriends out there — you are our Valentine bright spot!

  9. Katherine in Atlanta says:

Awwwwww so though I never brave the grocery store on Valentine’s Day……now I’m wanting to go get some roses for our table. We need roses. My 5yo daughter needs roses. Husband will have to watch the kids while I go brave the crazy crowds to get roses. 🙂 (p.s. husband won’t mind watching the kids – he’ll be 100% relieved that I’m not sending him to get the roses……)

Thank you too for the bookmark. I don’t usually pay attention to things like this but my daughter insists that we need a different bookmark for every book we are reading. She will love this one!

  10. Christine D says:

Yep blizzard here too In MI. I’m been decorating for Spring a little to enough of snow I thought bunnies might perk things up! I say this every Feb . Glad your almost done that’s a lot of work!

Happy St. Valentine’s Day, Susan. This is my valentine gift…..reading your blog, listening to my favorite singer, ELLA! Love your choice of “old” songs. My “valentine” is away this weekend and got flowers, candy and card before he left, but I was so happy to see your latest entry for our happy day! Two weeks ago, I joined Friends of Gladys Taber’s club and looking forward to the March newsletter and annual reunion in June. Can’t wait! Thank you for all you do and to share it with others. So very generous of you. Happy “hearts” day. ps I did put all the paper hearts on the windows and tables. Lovely……now for some Mrs. Patmore (spelling?) tea for my gift to me! Keep the home fires burning……………Esther

  16. Linda Metcalf says:

I love snowy-cosy-house warm days but wouldn’t care to have the snow for sooo long. But of course here in Kansas the temps vary from 12 degrees one day to 60 the next! The bookmark s lovely!

  17. Lexy Lawrence says:

Looking forward to a joyous Valentine Day. Decided to do your Pineapple Juice Ribs for a special meal tonight. Quick question….do you cover the roasting pan for the first 2 hour roast? Then, after adding the sauce, do you cover or uncover the pan for the second 1 hour cook? Looks so good. Thanks for your help.

  18. katherine says:

Thanks Susan for the Valentine wishes, book mark and mostly thanks for being You and sharing so much of yourself here in blog land. I do LOVE your blog!!!
Cold and snowy here in PA on our sheep farm…and of course we are busy with lambing….I think as of last night we have 20 lambs in the barn. The kids had friends over so there was a barn party of sorts – while a momma blessed the kids with perfectly timed lambs so everyone could see the wonderful miracle of birth! Take Care and Stay Cozy!
O’ I do have a question for you, if you please….what type of water colors do you use? Thanks.

    • sbranch says:

Twenty lambs in the barn. How lucky you are!!! I wish I lived next door to you! I use all kinds of watercolors — whenever I see one I don’t have, I get it. I have tubes of every brand, and also many kinds of watercolor sets. I’m excited about all the different colors ~ no two companies make “Hooker Green” the same.

      • katherine says:

Thanks Susan….I wish you lived next door to me too! You know you are on my hero list….up there with Tasha Tudor Beatrix Potter, Maud Lewis… For some reason my hero list seems to consist mostly of artists/home lover types…hum? My Mom and Grandmothers are on my list too…they where all amazing textile artists and did not even really know it. Thanks for answering my paint question! Also thanks for introducing me to Gladys Taber I am reading the one of her books right now…good stuff. O’ I just thought to look this up, briennembrown.com/works/989418/jeffs-sheep. If you have time check out this link. Brienne came to our farm and painted a picture of our barn and sheep and added in my husband Jeff (he is my hero number 1).

hi susan… I love this blog… beautiful… especially the sunrise… but oh.. that’s alotta snow!!! We had planned to journey to Boston area over this long week-end but postponed … it’s a far cry from St. Louis to Beantown via blizzard !! It will be a lovely day here with breakfast at our most favorite old- fashioned diner.. then off to deliver Valentine’s goodies to the grandkids. I turned this week into “Romance Week” ( not that every week isn’t lol) and made a special dinner two each night with all of the romantic trimmings…six days later, we are a tad rounder and a bit broker…( filet, shrimp, salmon and wine ain’t cheap – lol) but happy!! Had a lot of inspiration from you .. so it’s true.. sticking with you through thick and thin .. Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day Susan and to all Girlfriends….here’s to love..it’s all you need xoxoxo love, cindy

  20. Julia says:

OK girlfriends, this may sound harsh. Be GRATEFUL for the beauty of
the snow. We had a little frost in the grass this morning and I am
thrilled!! Dolly Rose (Beagle) let me sleep in until 7:45 for my Valentine’s
gift. Usually, it is not later than 6:30. Bought a new book and a bar
of dark chocolate yesterday – so I’m set for the day. Also, you keep
me so inspired to work more on the things I love (fabric stuff) instead
of letting the “necessaries” get in the way. Happy day to you and your
WonderMan! Also, happy day to our BLOGDAD.

  21. Luci from Virginia says:

    Dear Sweet Susan,

Happy Valentines Day to you ,Joe and the Kitties. How fun it is to have someone to love and someone to spoil on Valentines Day. My husband and I have enjoyed spoiling each other for 43 Valentines Days . We are going to celebrate tomorrow by going to a Riders In The The Sky concert doing a Roy Rogers tribute. So glad that you finished most of your calendars for me next year. How I love mine each year. I get to enjoy you every day. I’m looking forward to reading your book when it is done. Anticipation!!! Your rose and snow pictures were so pretty. So glad that you are starting your day off quietly thinking about all that is special to you today. Thank you for the lovely bookmark for us and Happy Valentines Day to all the Girlfriends out there. Hope that your day is special in every way. Hugs and kisses to the four of you. XOXOXO

  22. Chris Wells In Knickerbocker, W TX says:

Happy Valentine’s Day Susan and GF’s! Jim and I have the same special meal every Valentine’s Day. Beef Fondue and Ceasar Salad….Jim makes the best Ceasar Salad dressing! Then we just sit and chat over the beef fondue…very casual…very lovely.
Feeling guilty about the weather. I am planning on working in the yard today…..Jim is going to have to mow…….weeds! I know it is very frigid there…if it’s any consolation, we have a chance of snow Tuesday. That’s West Texas….mow one day…shovel snow the next. Pretty crazy!
Love you all and hope everyone has a day filled with love!
P.S. The owner of the company I work for got every girl in the office red roses for Valentine’s Day. He lost his wife of 50 years to cancer last year! It was so sweet!
    Chris

  23. Winnie Nielsen says:

Happy Valentine’s day, Susan!! I hurried this morning to your blog hoping you would send us “Girlfriends” a little greeting with a blog post. A special greeting from you is such fun. Thank-you for the cute bookmark too! A little bonus and always appreciated by me. I am happy to hear that you and Joe are surviving the battering of storms that have been coming one after another too. Spring and a yard of daffodils and forsythia are going to be so welcome after weeks of white and bitter cold.

Congratulations that your calendars are almost finished and coming along nicely for you. We always love hanging them in our homes!!

Have a wonderful fun Valentine’s Day with Joe and kitties!!

  24. Arlene Siepel says:

Thank you for your bookmarks! I copy lots of them and take them to my 91 year old mother in love at the alzheimer center where she lives. She cuts them out so nicely and it gives us something to do together, I had so many I gave them to our used bookstore, they said we have a box of old soft back covers we don’t have time to cut could she. I was delighted! she needs a purpose. Then to top it off I found your Christmas Joy book there 1/2 price. God is good and Bless your heart for being part of my sweet husband’s Mom “craft” time. 🙂

    • Elaine in Toronto says:

Bless you, Arlene, for all you do for your mother-in-love. You are so lucky to have each other. Susan’s little “Christmas Joy” book is such a treasure. Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your sweetie.

  25. susie says:

As soon as I was up I went to the computer because I knew there would be a Valentine from you! Thank you. I have an amazingly artistic 5 yr. old granddaughter visiting so we will make the lovely bookmark together. (after our heart shaped waffles!)
You are a spot of love and joy in a less than peaceful world.

(Thrilled to hear of the Land Bank – I was concerned about winning the HGTV house but will feel better about it now!)

Happy Valentine’s Day to you too!! It is definitely a beautiful day in your neighborhood – all the snow and the pink sunrise – absolutely beautiful!

A big “Thank you” for the bookmark. The Nancy Luce quote is one of my favorites. She must have been a such a special person to have managed to be as positive as she was in the face of such adversity.

Send us a tweet when the last page of the blotter is done. Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day! We’ll be thinking of you as the winds blow and MORE snow falls on your beautiful island. XOXO

  33. Paulette says:

    Happy Valentines Day!

The cold I’m dealing with is getting better and yesterday I took advantage of the time and darned/repaired some of my handmade socks. I hardly wear nothing else now! They are perfect for the Wisconsin winter, today we have 7 and lots of wind, Wish we did have more snow, it hasn’t been good to get outside and snowshoe.

    Anyhow, have a great day!

  34. VICKI says:

Happy Valentine’s Day…….stay cozy as the snows are to engulf us again. It is sooo beautiful, like lace from heaven and we all know by June the flowers will return so…..sit back and enjoy nature’s wonders. Each season seems to have its own magic, don’t you think so? And as for today, any day that emphasizes chocolate and flowers has to be especially wonderful! Hugs!

Happy Valentine’s Day, Susan! Thank You for the Beautiful Book Mark! I’ll use it in several books I am reading now. I love young adults (5th grade up) books, and am reading the Time Traveler Series right now. I’m also an Anglophile, so most of the books I read are about the UK, ie., “A Fine Romance”, Jane Austin, English Children’s Books like ones by Lewis Carrol , etc . I’m looking forward to your new book! Must dash, and go fix husband some pancakes for our Valentine’s Breakfast!

    Love Bev

Happy Valentine’s Day, Susan & Joe – and of course, the furkitties ♥♥♥ You do have some weather up there! Very hopeful sign this morning though – but my sister in NY and I in Virginia saw the first Robin in our yards, sightings about 10 minutes apart! Guess the same one couldn’t have flown that fast LOL, but how wonderful it was! Have a wonderful day & batten the hatches for what is to come up there on your wonderful frozen MV island! XOXOXO ♥

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY DEAR HEARTS!!!! I LOVE that LOVE has a special day. I LOVE that you make heart shaped eggs for your LOVE, Susan. How romantic. No wonder you have such a wonderful, endearing relationship with your husband. May your joy always be with you two. You’ve found something very special, something that needs to be honored & revered each & every day.

My best friend, Delores, (lost her husband a month before my Larry passed) & I are going to an early (restaurants will be packed) dinner, then to the ballet. The four of us, Delores, her husband, Larry & myself were very close for over fifty years. Now there’s Delores & myself running the great race. We don’t sit around & cry. We’re out there with the best of them, still enjoying the joys of life. (Sandy from Chihuahua Flats)

Happy Valentine’s Day Sandy! Hope you and Delores have a great time!

Happy Valentines Day to both of you wonderful , sweet ladies . God Bless the widows. What a great friend you have in each other. You know how blessed you are. Im sorry for your loss so to speak, You will be together again. My BBF is trying to find a nice man to spend her life with , and i watch her trials , she would do anything to meet Mr Wright. But to no avail. So you know what a blessing all those years where. Know you had and have true love since we never die, our bodies my give out but our spirit never ever dies. Love to you both. What a great outing would love to hear from you and find out how much fun you had at Ballet and what you had for dinner and where.? Love to you both much blessings Love Cheyenne from Henderson Nv the day after V-Day XXX

        • sondra fox says:

          Hi Cheyenne,
You asked how our Valentine’s night went. The ballet was just wonderful! The ballet company was the Russian Ballet. We had a light dinner before the ballet, as we don’t like to sit for a theatre performance with a full stomach. We didn’t discuss our husbands at all, although I know I was thinking of my dear husband all night long. I’m sure my friend Delores was thinking about her husband as well, as we saw many couples enjoying Valentine’s night together. We just have to remember how our lives were full of romance for fifty-five years. Thanks for your interest Cheyenne. (Sandy from Chihuahua Flats)

      • sondra fox says:

Chris, thanks for your greeting. Things turned out well on Valentine’s night. I had my doubts about going, but said to myself, “get over it Sandy!” Get out there & try to look like you’re having fun. I miss my husband a great deal, but have to act like I don’t, then when I proceed, I fool myself into having fun. (Sandy from Chihuahua Flats)

    Hi Sue,
Here from Charlton, just outside of Sturbridge MA., we too are awaiting the storm. I have a cute story for you…I ordered the EB poppy mug last week to bring in more hope for an early Spring. Well, I received a call from Sheri in CA! She just had a tiny question but I got a cute surprise when my mug arrived. Outside of the mailing box she had written in words and stickers: “My wish for you…out like a lion and in like a lamb,” from Sheri in sunny CA. What a delight it was! And she was lovely to talk to. It really brightened my day! I hope the storm is forgiving to you (and myself). Spring can’t get here soon enough!

  53. Mary Jane Gruber says:

Hi Susan, What a great way to spend Valentine’s Day (snowed in with -25 degree windchill for tonight here in PA). I will be taking special care to tuck my pony, Pretzel, in tonight at the barn. Of course my Valentine boy of 47 years is here with me and now your adorable bookmark to print out. I must comment on the pineapple spareribs recipe on our Feb. calendar page. I had some pineapple juice I wanted to use up (you know how often THAT happens) and luckily there was your recipe staring back at me in the kitchen. It’s a KEEPER! And finally what is this “new book” of which thou speaketh??? 🙂

  54. Marian says:

Happy Valentine’s Day to you Susan and to all the girlfriends in Susanville. We knew we could count on Susan for a special Valentine rememberance. The bookmark is so pretty and practical. Enjoy the day everyone!

  55. Carol Maurer~~~~ Kennewick, Wa says:

Hi Susan~~~ So happy for another post!! The pictures of your house with ALL that snow is just beautiful! Looks as though you have quite a few inches of snow in your yard. Have you measured it yet? I think of you and Joe often in all these storms that you are getting. Stay safe and cozy in your house with the fire going strong to keep you warm.

Good luck on getting the calendars almost finished up. That light at the end of the tunnel is shinning brighter and brighter!

You are such a romantic and I love that! Your blogs are such a breath of fresh air! I’m in Virginia and we are not getting all that snow. Glad you enjoy it. Happy Valentine’s Day!

    • sbranch says:

Well, I better . . . it looks like we’re not getting a choice! Luckily it looks good coming down — I’m only a little concerned with the wind!

      • Jean says:

Oh, we are having wind here on Windy Gap Mountain and plenty of it. Temperatures are going down into the teens tonight, so I think we’re in for it!

  58. Patty in Michigan says:

  60. Patty in Michigan says:

Oh, I forgot to ask you if you’ve seen “The Great British Baking Show” on PBS? Watched it the other night and wondered if you have seen it. It was good and I loved the things they baked and listening to their wonderful accents was fun.

  61. Lynne says:

Thanks for the bookmark! It’s hard to believe y’all are still so snowy. My snowdrop flowers are blooming, and pruned back the roses this week. Happy V Day!

  65. Happy Valentine’s Day, dearest! It’s such fun to celebrate this day of love and friendship in so many small ways. They are most truly remembered as the BIG blessings in life! My husband was truly touched by my ‘Love Notes’ gift. (It’s not what you think! Come visit…) We are all cheering you on as you paint the last two pages, Susan!! For that means that ‘our’ book is next!! It’s a story that will touch all of our lives in different ways. We just can’t wait… and I know that your heart wants to put this special story into the world soonest! Do you have a working title in mind yet?
Valentine hugs for you and Joe!

    Happy Valentine’s Day…..
Update: It started snowing here in Cent’l NJ while we were having lunch and now its coming straight down in steady, tiny flakes. The directional on the weather vane is not spinning around much which is good. I hope this gentle one is what heads your way instead of those high winds. Drifting is not fun.

  67. Kathleen says:

Happy Valentines Day to You and Joe and those sweet kitties! Valentines Day was my dad’s birthday so it was always a big deal in our house growing up and I still LOVE it! Even my husband loves it! Wish we had just a little of your snow this way… It’s 80 today… Sorry

  68. Love to you and yours on this cold Valentine’s Day! Batten down the hatches, Susan, It’s going to be a bumpy ride. We have the wind and cold air advisory but no snow. Stay safe and warm in the house of creativity. Happy Valentine’s Day to all the girlfriends! xoxo ♥

  69. Heartsdesire says:

I’m sure it will be quite a relief to get those projects finished. They always start out being fun in the beginning, but with so many other things to do, the end can never get there fast enough. You’ve certainly had your fair share of snow, hoping tonight’s storm isn’t too damaging. Joe’s egg is perfect. I cooked my husband eggs this morning as well. And, of all things, he wanted fried baloney with it. I feel, on Valentine’s Day, it’s alright to indulge him. I saw a photo on Facebook today of a black and white cat similar to Jack, with a black heart-shaped nose. Perfect for the day. Stay warm and cosy around your fireplace this evening, and enjoy a Happy Valentine’s Day.

  70. Marianne in Hidden Meadows, SoCal says:

And thanks for the blessing of you, dear Susan….Happy Valentine’s Day!

  71. patti says:

Oh Miss Susan, I feel so bad for all of you Bostonian’s. I mean, enough is enough already. We haven’t the snow, but today it’s the wind chills below zero. I’m just staying in and writing my blog and book. Yes I have started and I’m going to finish !!! The boys out in Virginia are working on, “Don Quiote” with some ballet dancer’s from China. How exciting, they are going to China this spring. They are totally pumped for it. Don’t know how I feel about it. The husband is getting his passport just in case he needs to go over and bail one of them out of a chinese jail 🙂 Just kidding, but just to be on the safe side, one of us should have a passport and it’s not going to be me. Stay warm and safe with Joe and the kitties. I’ll watch the storm from my warm bedroom and the weather channel. It’s better that way <3 Happy Valentines Day to you both…

  72. judi says:

Happy Valentines to you two lovebirds:))) Great idea for the egg – you are sooo clever.

Your yard is truely a winter wonderland. Am praying you do not have any damage from upcoming storm, rats, wind is not good! Hope you found some youngins to shovel off your roof and keep the ice from building up and going under the shingles. I remember taking a hachet and a ice pick to our rain gutters one winter.

Hugs, fire and kitties will keep your warm and of course something delicious from that fab stove of yours. Report in after the storm has past – okay? You know we all worry about you. xoxo judi

  73. Gina P. from NY says:

Happy Valentines Day Susan! Hope you have a nice cozy day at home with all your loved ones (kitties & Joe). It’s snowing here, but I don’t think we will get the blizzard you are supposed to get up in New England. They are saying maybe 3 to 6 inches at most by tomorrow a.m.

I am going to marathon watch Downton Abbey Seasons 1 and 2. I am a new Downton watcher and just picked up it at the beginning of Season 5. I’m already in love with it. This last episode was great – so much going on – what with Lady Mary’s new do, Edith finding out that her love has died and going to take her Marigold away with her, the goings on with Violet and Prince Kuragin, the horse race, (can’t imagine galloping on a horse sitting side-saddle) etc. Anyway, made a quick trip to the local library this morning before the snow started and grabbed the first two seasons. I am off for a few days so will have plenty of time to get up to speed on what I’ve missed. Perfect thing to do on a snowy day!

Hope you have a wonderful day! Stay safe and warm…

  74. Robin - Henderson, NV says:

I had to stop and review a few of the older posts – well, my very most favorite so far – ever – your beautiful home with the snow coming down!! Perfect day!

  75. Jenny from Southern Illinois says:

Happy Valentine’s Susan! Thank you for the bookmark. I was having a terrible pang for some retail therapy today but, the pocketbook is empty! Receiving the bookmark eased my pain! Thank you! Thank you! Glad to hear you are staying warm through these storms. We have received very little snow this year, much to my children’s dismay. They want a snow day from school and a chance to go sledding. Give the kitties a hug from me. Spring is right around the corner!

    • sbranch says:

You can tell your children that the kids in Boston will probably not get out for summer until July! So many snow days to make up! That should cheer yours up!

  76. Cheryl Craven says:

Happy Valentines Day to you, Joe and the kitties! Thanks for the lovely bookmark! So happy you are doing well with your painting. Since the weather around New England hasn’t been conducive to outdoor activities. It’s a great time to do “indoor” things. Stay safe and warm in the storm. It’s snowing here in Falmouth now.

    • sbranch says:

It’s 5 am, and I don’t think we got the blizzard! Snow yes, maybe an inch? But where is all that scary wind?

      • Rhonda D. says:

Happy (belated) Valentine’s Day to you Susan, Joe and all the girlfriends. I have an imaginary friend, Marcie, and next year I promise not to put her in charge of the Valentine emails (chuckle). It’s probably not a bad thing that this storm somewhat passed you by. Hope the winds aren’t too bad. Keeping you, MV, and the girlfriends in my prayers. The storm has struck full force here in the maritimes….can’t see out the windows, very windy….better get the fire made. Really enjoyed the hearts, roses, and flowers….a wonderful pick-me-up in all this winter weather. Your posts do more for the soul than you can even imagine. My daughter left for Florida yesterday. I emailed her that we lived here when they left, but not sure I’ll be on the map when they return…they might not be able to find us with two and a half feet of snow to come this week. Some of the snow banks are already over our heads, so where will the put it? Stay warm and cozy everyone!

        • sbranch says:

We couldn’t see out our windows for a while, but it’s getting better by the moment. You stay warm too Rhonda!

  77. Laurie W.--MA says:

Hunkering down in Chatham as well. Lots of wood for the woodstove, kerosene heater ready, and flashlights & candles near by.

Woke up this a.m. and remembered the lyrics to this song: “Will you be my Valentine? I’ll be yours, if you’ll be mine. Everything will be so fine if you’ll be my Valentine. This message that my heart conveys is filled with love for you. And, dearest, for the rest of my days, my heart will ever be true. Will you be my Valentine?…etc.” Tried to google it and couldn’t find it anywhere! Hope maybe you or one of your readers can fill me in on the history of the song. Fun to find out that our married son and wife will be celebrating Valentine’s Day like we are–home and grilling a steak with baked potato and asparagus. Think Gladys Tabor would approve!

  78. Betsy Cronin says:

Happy Valentines Day to Susan and Joe! You make every holiday that much more joyous thanks to your wonderful ideas, recipes, quotes and enthusiasm. Batten down the hatches out there on the Vineyard. It’s going to be a blustery day! ~Betsy
p.s. Any chance of adding a Spring and Winter title to Autumn and Summer down the road??

  79. Martha B says:

Be safe in the storm. Sounds like very high gusts ahead for the islands, not to mention more snow. What a New England Winter! Spring WILL come.

  80. Fan in California says:

Happy Valentine’s Day to you, Susan, and thanks — as always — for all your gorgeous photos and delightful comments!!! Looking forward to your book!!

  81. While you’re in deep winter, on the west coast we have trees blossoming. Isn’t it amazing. I love your pretty calendar page for February am going to go right now and print the book mark. I usually cut the fronts of greeting cards for bookmarks and was about to dispatch the stack of cards left over from Christmas. Now I can add another to my new collection.

  82. Barbora says:

Happy Valentine’s Day to you and Joe. I knew there would be a Valentine from you in my email box. Thank you.

  86. Colleen Baptista says:

Happy Valentines to you as well,
It looks like a beautiful cozy day there to enjoy your hubby and home

  87. Pat Mofjeld says:

I’m down with a bad head cold so missed fixing a valentine breakfast like you did. Norm made French toast, though, which was a treat. Hmmm..breakfast in bed–we’ve never tried that. The schnauzers would think it wonderful–too handy for trying to get beards into plates! 🙂 I’m getting up to put pecan-crusted chicken in the oven with twice-baked potatoes, roasted cauliflower/brussel sprouts/baby carrots, and grapefruit/avocado salad. No desert as my energy is fizzling out just fixing dinner…think I’ll do the heart-shaped toast out of some sourdough bread we have and make garlic bread. Happy Valentine’s Day to you and Joe! Enjoy the storm. We’re having subzero cold but not much snow. Really a bad complication to friends in Boston… 🙁

  88. JoAnn Logan says:

Met you at Full Circle Bookstore in OKC at your book signing. So glad each time you blog sending news on how you are surviving the blizzards! Your cheery news and beautiful photos often make my day better.

  89. Happy Valentine’s Day Susan, Joe, Girl Kitty and Jack and all the Girlfriends! May your day be warm and cozy, your tummies full and your thoughts thinking of Spring and flower gardens…

Hi Susan !! Again I’m thinking of you and Joe and all the other residents in the Northeast. I pray for your warmth and safety as yet another storm bears down upon you and yours. At least you have interesting work to keep you busy. Just saw the “mountains of MIT” … just amazing !! Stay safe !!

  93. Susan ( an Ohio gal in SoCal ) says:

Happy Valentine’s Day to you and Joe, Susan! Hoping all of the girlfriends are having a wonderful day. We are rejoicing here today especially – our baby granddaughter was critically ill for 10 days and on a ventilator. ( She will be 8 weeks old tomorrow , but was a preemie ) She came home today! We were expecting a much longer stay. We are thankful! Bless your heart for all the lovely things you post for us and for the cozy spot we have here.

  94. You’re just the best!! I imagine you bundled in white bunny furs.
Oh, I just saw a preview for the new Cinderella movie…and Lady Rose of Downton will be Cinderella…it’s a nice day to think of how we are the Princesses of our own lives.

  95. Marilyn says:

It looks like everyone opens your blog first thing in the morning! I’m a “latey” I guess, but better late than never! I usually save it for last as I want to savor your day. I so enjoy your little drawings and quotes. I live in Oregon where it’s usually very snowy this time of year (like your pictures!) but this year, the snow has been very sparse! It was 60 degrees today and like spring! I’m in shock! But really, I’m happy not to have to be bundled up in 3 sweaters like I usually am. Happy Valentine’s Day to you and Joe and your sweet kitties…. it’s so refreshing to find two people who so truly like and love each other! Marilyn in central Oregon
