Happy Monday!

HAPPY MONDAY GIRLFRIENDS!  MUSICA

The Fairy Tale Girl

Those are words from my new book, THE FAIRY TALE GIRL ~ I’m designing bookmarks for it now, I think I’ll put this on one of them . . . I am so excited . . . the book is at the printer ~ it won’t be long now!  I just received the color proofs . . . and thought you would like to see.

The fairy Tale Girl color proofs

The printer sent these sample pages so I can check the color and the cut-lines and make sure everything is being printed inside the borders.  They looked pretty good to me!  They wouldn’t let me keep them, wah, I had to okay them and send them back!   Thank goodness for cameras or I might not believe it happened.

Fairy2

I had to paint fairies for the new book, here is one of them, I love her.  We have these tiny blue butterflies here on the Island that come for only a couple of weeks in the spring and float down the dirt road with us in the mornings, two or three at a time.  Like magic. So I modeled my fairies after them, except of course for the hands and feet!  ANYWAY, I just wanted to say . . .

goodmorning

I’m still trying to catch up and get life back to normal.  I just finished designing the covers for the 2017 calendars.  The manufacturer always needs those first, for their catalog.  I have to say, painting “2017” was shocking.  I had to go check, I couldn’t believe I had the right date, but IMG_1459I did!  So they are done, and right now, I am deep in the throes of writing a new WILLARD ~ I figured it was about time!  You have all been so patient.  I checked with the Twitter girls last night and everyone said they wanted a long one, so prepare yourself.  You might have to take the day off.  After that, believe it or not, I will have nothing on my plate.  N O T H I N G, I can empty my trash and it will stay empty!  How do you like the sound of that?  I’m pretty excited.  I even got the title for the cover of book two of this Fairy Tale painted:

MVIsleOfDreams

That book is all written too, I’m way ahead of myself ~ I can work to finish it with art and photos more slowly and over time.  Right now, it’s time-out for fruits-of-labor enjoying! Already there’s more time for appreciating the little things that make life sweet, taking the camera out on our walk, having naps with old movies, eating lobsters, taking Jack out to the garden so he can munch the grass and I can admire things like this:

IMG_5318

The island is frothing over with hydrangeas these days . . . this one is growing under our bird feeders.

vineyard haven harbor

We went out to dinner the other night and watched the sun set over the harbor . . . such a gorgeous evening. Now you know why I call it Isle of Dreams.

Vineyard Haven Harbor

Hard to believe you can sit right there and have all that just for the price of a glass of wine and a plate of deep fried oysters.  Wow. Right?

August 2010 174

We went out for a walk after dinner last night, just as it was getting dark . . . middle of August and quiet, summer nights in our neighborhood, crickets cricketing.  You should hear what I hear right now, at 6 a.m. . . . . Not a sound from my studio window but birds singing, cool air flowing in and just the barest light in the blue sky beginning to show outside. My favorite time of day.

Count your blessings

That’s what I’m doing! There’s one of my blessings drinking out of the sink!

It takes me about four days to write and design a WILLARD, then I send it to Kellee so she can work her magic on it, which means we Jackplan to have it all ready to go by August 18th.  Once we push the “send button” it takes about three days for the whole thing to go, it has to be sent in batches (so we don’t destroy the Internets), so if you know anyone who would like to have a WILLARD, they’re free of course, and all you have to do is sign them up and boom, it will show up in their email box (if you don’t see yours, always check your spam folder because some computers might (rudely) block it).  And FYI, there will be a mighty fine Giveaway involved in this WILLARD ~ and all kinds of other surprises too. I’ve warned Vanna she might actually have to work when it comes out so she should plan for it! I’m a real tyrant with that girl.

Our little bird Nellie, who a-d-o-r-e-s the little bird on your page and has learned her sound by heart, and I send our love to you and your cats all the way from beautiful Norway. Dearest love, Emma

  3. Good Afternoon from Wales! Lovely treat finding this on my reading list as I came online to check a few things.

Oh, Isle of Dreams indeed! Glad you got to go out to dinner, you deserve it after being chained to your art table for so long!

Hydrangeas of all colours, mop heads and lace caps, blossoming forth on this side of the Atlantic too! I must go out with my camera, so thanks for the gentle nudge!

Did you hear the squealing that went right around the world when you told us to expect a Willard soon? It was right after the colour proofs squeal! A whole lot a squealing going on right now!

Well, off to do paperwork today ~ it’s a bore, it’s a chore, but it’s got to be done!

Congrats on a job well done and calendars and a Willard….Wowsers you can work. Now we can prepare for the BER months, my Favorite….but I live in west Texas and my favorite months aren’t as pretty as yours, but that is okay there is beauty everywhere. Life is Beautiful.

  7. Linda Michael says:

Good morning Susan! The color prints look terrific – oh my gosh, I think I’m hyperventilating – can’t wait for your beautiful book! Thank you for sharing the picture of Jack in the sink with his little behind up in the air – he’s such a cutie! I hope you can sit back and relax for the rest of August on “The Isle of Dreams”, you certainly deserve it. And, not to rush things, but Autumn (my favorite season) will be here soon – yay!

  8. LindaB says:

So glad I turned on the computer this morning! August is turning out to be pretty spectacular! Went to a great concert last week, I am leaving for Maine a week from today to meet my Pen Pal ( that I met through you !) AND your book will be here soon after I get back!! Not a bad month!

  9. mary spring says:

..good morning !!..you GO, girlfriend !..congratulations on doing amazing work !..and it’s so good to have you back doing posts again; we’ve missed you so !..now to await the arrival of your newest book in my mailbox !!..’can’t wait !!..( so many exclamation marks.. ‘feeling the excitement is an understatement ! )..enjoy, with love, as always…

    • sbranch says:

I have to fight back the exclamation points these days myself! I try to allow only one, but sometimes others sneak in!!!!!

  10. Lorraine from White Plains, NY says:

August in Martha’s Vineyard sounds enticing! Such pink sunsets! And just 4 hours and 17 minutes from where I live! Sounds like a road trip is in my future! Although I’m not much of one for the (usual) heat and humidity of August, it does have it’s own excitement — the rush to get the most out of the remaining days of summer, the glimpse of those one or two maple trees whose leaves are always the first to show a hint of their fall colors, the excitement of back-to-school days! As a 60 year old, the closest I can get to that thrill of those new notebooks, binders, and book bags is donating to a local organization that makes sure every child has a new backpack filled with all the necessary items to get them off to a good start! But, I still dream of a box of 64 Crayola crayons all to myself…. But, for me, more than anything else, August is a month full of anticipation for my favorite season: Autumn! After the re-awakening of our senses in the spring, we are sort of lulled into a lazy complacency in the heat of summer. But, the exhilarating chill of fall, the colors, the SMELLS, and the holidays that celebrate family… what better way to “stock up our senses” for the winter!

    • sbranch says:

I am right there with you. Coming from the California coast, fall was like a huge discovery when I came here, the best present I ever got, and a total surprise when I found it. I’m still not over it.

  11. Beth L. says:

Congratulations, Susan! What a wonderful feeling to have completed your book!
BUT, I laughed out loud when I read that now you will have an “empty plate.” Haha! A true artist NEVER has an empty plate, especially you! It’s out of your control…there’s always something stirring to come out! (even while you sip wine and munch lobsters under the pink summer sunsets…ahh, inspiration!)
    ON to the PANCAKE BOOK!!!!
    xoxo

    • sbranch says:

I’m out on my walk and I think of all kinds of things to put on that empty plate, including a big serving of Pancakes! 🙂

  12. Jacquelyn-Bainbridge Island, WA says:

So much excitement! Can’t wait for the book, calendars and Willard too! Love the Hydrangias as well. Mine have been going crazy with our unseasonably warm summer. Thanks for sharing.
    XO

    • sbranch says:

I was up in Washington at one time, I kind of thought it was like England weather for the gardens. But I know you’ve had too much heat this year.

  13. Cathy from Golden Co says:

So glad you’re back to have a cup of coffee with me this beautiful morning. What a wonderful surprise dear friend. Congratulations on finishing up – can’t wait to hold it in my hands. Beautiful pink MV! Wow! Looks very romantic.

  14. marty from NYC says:

A Willard-you cannot imagine how happy that make so many people! So glad that we are all about to enjoy the fruits of all you hard work.
Take a deep relaxing breath and enjoy the Island in all of its current beauty. So glad to have you back to start the day. Marty

  15. I bought your book “A Fine Romance” as a Christmas gift for my mom who lives in Canada but is from Leicester. She loved it so much I got a copy for myself this summer and I fell in love with it, too.

Thank you so much for the wonderful story and for giving me a book I truly enjoyed – something that rarely happens to me anymore with modern day books. I am so looking forward to your new book.

    A HUGE fan in Canada!

  16. Tracy Jones says:

    Hi Sue,
I too, am equally excited about your new book. I think it will bring to me the inspiration I so long desire! Funny thing happened though…I decided to reread A Fine Romance this summer. I had read it cover to cover when it first arrived. Anyway, I was reading it about a week ago when all of a sudden a pressed violet flower fell out of the book!!!!! I didn’t put it there and I know no one in my family would have. Did you put flowers in some of those books? It was such a delightful surprise. I am going to laminate it and make it a bookmark. I called my friends who adore you and they just couldn’t believe it. What a special sweet surprise for me!

Enjoy the rest of this summer…school starts soon and it will be back to my second graders before long!

    xo Tracy

    • sbranch says:

I wouldn’t be a bit surprised, I do pop things into books every so often. It’s very possible I put it there. Whoever did it — I love it! xoxo magic.

  17. I’m thrilled for you and me that your labors are coming to fruition! Excitement is in the air—Books from you dear one, send happiness to all!! Thank you for your sweet self! xoxo ♥

  18. ann says:

Your book looks beautiful! I can’t wait for it to come out! You amaze me…thanks so much for sharing❤️

  19. mari1017 says:

Good morning, Susan from a beautiful rainy morning in Virginia. Boy, my plants so love the rain 🙂 I really, really realize how much I missed your posts and Willards when I saw this new blog up! But I know that you were working on more wonderful things for us all, and I thank you! Those proofs!!! Can’t wait for your new books ♥ And bookmarks to go with and enjoy!!! I will tell you that I’ve made some in the past by laminating your art & adding a ribbon tassel – just for me & sister & mom – we use them all the time 🙂 (We are fans lol ♥) You are the one who spreads sunshine, my friend – we just reflect it back to you – all the smiles & joy & good cheer! Thank you, thank you.
Looking forward to all good things – Happy Monday!!!
p.s. I promise this will be my last request, but could you pretty please consider more MV charms for your webstore? Maybe to celebrate the new book??? My memories of MV are so wonderful still (thanks for the beautiful pictures this morning, just as I remember), and I missed my opportunity to buy that beautiful ocean charm before they sold out. Thanks! ♥♥♥

    • sbranch says:

I really want to do that . . . we just haven’t had time to arrange it lately, I’ll talk to Sheri today and see if we can get that going. Thank you Mari!

    • Terrie from Atanta, GA says:

Agree! Agree! Agree! I LUUURVE your charms, Susan – we all do – and would be so happy to see more of them, or even repeats of older pieces. Maybe omit the dates on some of them, though, so that they’re Timeless? XoXo

      • sbranch says:

The only thing that slows us down on them is that the manufacturer makes us buy thousands of them at a time . . . and won’t let us get just a few hundred of each, so we like to be sure there’s enough demand for them. Hearing from you makes a difference!

  20. Barb R. says:

There are few happier ways to start the day than a wonderful, cheerful blog post from you!! You truly make all of us so happy and remind us to cherish the simple, joyful moments, beauty and abundance that surround us and make our lives so blessed.

    Thank you!

  21. Jane Franks says:

CONGRATULATIONS! Susan. I know how hard you have worked, and WHAT relief when DONE!! You do so deserve to celebrate, and what a blessing to be able to do it right there under you nose on your very own island! (well yours and 100,000 other people this time of year! 🙂 ) I live vicariously through your strolls in the mornings and evenings and the sunset views on the harbors. It nourishes my New England seacoast soul! Thank you for sharing. Love the title graphic of your new book! You have two new winners coming. So happy for you. We have some need for me to do fundraising again, but spent 10 glorious days in a row WRITING!! only recently, and made some real progress. S-L-O-W-L-Y keeping at it! “I think I can, I think I can; I knew I could I knew I could!” Thanks again for the inspiration!! xoxo

    • sbranch says:

I know you can Jane. Love hearing about your progress. It’s not as easy as it looks! 🙂

      • Jane Franks says:

No it isn’t! But what would life be without a “reach to exceed one’s grasp”! Thanks for your encouragement! xo

        • sbranch says:

I know ~ we KNOW we can’t do it, and yet and yet . . . somehow, with a little help from our friends, we do.

  22. Sheryl Pierson says:

    Good Morning Susan,

I just signed up for my first Willard!!! I can’t wait to get your new book. The pages look lovely, and the fairies, too cute!!! I’m so glad that you’re able to relax, and enjoy some free time again. Relaxation is important to the soul. Well, I’m off to clean out the garage, I have a completion date of September 1st. It’s a mess, but when it’s finished it will be great!! Kisses to Jack and Girl.

  23. Jeannette from the Central Coast says:

So excited to see the proofs! I was just looking at the print copy of my book order the other day thinking “it won’t be long now.” I’m really looking forward to Willard too. Enjoy your free time for now!

  24. Elaine in Toronto says:

Spreading sunshine. Sweetie, you do that in spades! Wonderful to anticipate a new Willard and of course, your new book. Fun to see the proofs. Jack is having fun in the sink. How is Girl? Enjoy these last few weeks of splendid summer. Hugs.

    • sbranch says:

Hi Elaine! Girl is good, the vet says she’s in good health, but she loses weight so she worries me. Hugs back to you!

      • Melissa says:

My once fat 11-year-old cat has been losing weight too, especially over the past year. He’s had bloodwork and everything came back fine, but still — it’s worrisome! He’s about as active as ever and gets into skirmishes with my other cat like always, so I’m trying not to fret too much. It’s hard, though. He’s my baby!

Congratulations on finishing up the book. All the little glimpses we’ve gotten have been so lovely! I can’t wait to finally read it — I know it’ll be a treasure, just like A Fine Romance is.

Enjoy the rest of the summer on your Isle of Dreams! It truly does look like a little bit of heaven. 🙂

        Melissa (@htd_classics on Twitter)

      • Elaine in Toronto says:

Maybe Girl is a little less active as she gets older and therefore not as hungry, hence the weight loss. But I understand your concern. You’re a good mom to her and Jack.

        • sbranch says:

          Thank you. We try.

          • I’ve also noticed my cat wasn’t eating as much as usual and it turned out she was having more hairballs than usual. I started giving her hairball medicine regularly and she started eating.

          • sbranch says:

Mine eats like a pig. And I give her hairball medicine, but then she throws up anyway. We are getting quite specific here, but my poor baby is getting skinny and the vet says she’s just getting old. I’m getting old and I’m not getting skinny!

  25. Shelia Wotring says:

This is too exciting! A Willard and a peek at the pages from the book! And if course a message from you on the computer this morning! We are all blessed for sure! Take a little breather now! Enjoy those sunsets!

    Shelia from Virginia

  26. Jack says:

girl is losing weight ? Maybe you should eat cat food for a couple weeks …..:~)

  27. Good Morning Susan, It was so nice to read that morning is the best time of day for you. It is for me too! I love waking up to the birds singing sweetly and the early morning light peeking in through the trees.
Congratulations on all that you have accomplished! Your book is being printed and you have the second book written, along with the next Willard, bookmarks and calendars. It’s so nice to check and find you here this morning. Thank you for a beautiful start to the day.

  28. Cindy Maulin says:

hi Susan!! oh HAPPY blog!! Your energy level is amazing and inspiring! Each Fairy Tale tidbit is such a treat… cannot wait to see the finished product.. have sustained myself using your Summer book… made many recipes for family and friends…getting ready to pull out the Autumn book… golly!!…it is my favorite time of year… counting my blessings every day.. you are on the list….
    love, cindy

  29. Ginger says:

Happy Monday morning to you Susan. So excited about a new Willard and your new book. Enjoy your “breather” between projects! Not to be pushy, but at some point in the past there was mention of a breakfast book. Did I miss it, or is it still to come?

    • sbranch says:

It’s still in the future. Half done though. But I needed to do these others first, they were in me and driving me crazy to get out!

      • Ginger from TX says:

Good to hear. Will enjoy these new books, your blog, and Willard in the interim. Just wanted to make sure I hadn’t missed it. Enjoy these last days of summer!

  30. Debby says:

Dear Susan, so glad you are back! Can’t wait for your book! Want to know how you take Mr. Jack to the garden without him running away? Have a relaxing day. Debby

    • sbranch says:

I mostly hold him. Or we sit with my hands on him while he munches grass. He’s a bit nervous being out there . . . LOVES it to the point of minor hysteria, but still nervous. Hopefully winter will come and he will forget about this new passion of his.

      • Holly says:

Hee hee…good luck with that! Once they get a taste of grass, it’s ALL OVER! 🙂 I did that with my cat and now he begs at the door many times a day for me to bring HIM grass! Of course, I do it…I know my place!

Give Jack and Girl many kisses from me!

(I am ignoring the rest of this post as I cannot deal with the major anticipation I am having as I await your book!)

      • sondra fox says:

My Himalayan cat, Sheba, wanted out, wanted out, wanted out. Finally, I let her out on our large patio with bushes bordering it, & a large wall all around it. I was a nervous Nellie. I remember a saying that if you love someone, you need to give them freedom. After many adventures out on our patio, with me trying to entice Sheba back inside using one of her bird toys, all to no avail, Sheba & I now communicate about when she wants in, & when she wants out. It took a lot of trust on my part to let her outside. She’s even been outside all night, when I gave up on trying to get her inside. She “could” jump the wall, but never has. When she has to go potty, she wants in so that she can go potty in her kitty box. She runs into her room & does her duty. After many trials & tribulations, I’m comfortable with her being outside. It’s hard being a pet mom. We want to protect, protect, protect. I totally understand, Susan. (Sandy from Chihuahua Flats)

        • sbranch says:

I know what you mean Sondra, my last three cats had complete run of the neighborhood, but that was many years ago when the Island was less crowded. My girlfriend who lives across the street from me has lost her last three kitties to cars . . . so that changed me on letting them out. I still let Girl out, but she’s afraid and never gets too far from the house’s foundation. Jack is a bit of a wild thing. He chases neighbors cats he sees outside, from window to window INSIDE our house in a total frenzy of excitement. I would hate to see what he might do outside!

          • sondra fox says:

Oh, no, you certainly know Jack (your cat, not your dad) well. Well, you no doubt know your dad as well, but you know that your cat, Jack, would wander. I would be leery of leaving him alone outside as well. How heartbreaking to have a pet run over. Many cat lovers caution about leaving cats loose in the outside world. I think you’re absolutely right Susan. We all love your Jack, & like you, would hate to see any bad come to him. Most vets will caution cat owners about letting cats outside. Sheba is sitting here beside me with her blue eyes looking up at me, telling me to thank you Susan for taking good care of your Jack. I’ve told Sheba all about you, Susan, & Jack. I’m an old lady who loves cats & is proud of it. I once was a young lady who loved cats, as well. I’ve loved cats ever since I picked up a little, bitty kitten, when I was about five years old, on my Aunt Sarah’s farm. All of the cats I’ve had in my life, have brought me so much JOY. (Sandy from Chihuahua Flats)

          • sbranch says:

Once you find out about kitties, it changes everything!

  31. Sandra Mailey says:

    Good Morning!!
It’s always such a treat to check in on the Blog and find something NEW!!
As is true for all of us – I’m excited about the Willard and the new book.
Can hardly wait!! The anticipation makes life worthwhile – along with so many other things – but your book is right up there at the top of the list!
Enjoy the remainder of the summer. You have certainly earned a bit of leisure!
    XOXO

  32. Mary Brehm says:

Good Morning Sue! You are spoiling us with another post. What a treat! I was up with the birdies as well, enjoying the cool morning air and watering and weeding my garden. I saw a scarlet tanager in my fountain! I couldn’t believe my eyes! I have never seen one before. I didn’t have my phone or camera with me and I knew if I ran inside to get it, he would be gone by the time i came back out so I just stood there with my mouth hanging open in awe and enjoyed the moment. I wish I had someone to share it with…You can’t begin to imagine the color of that red…utterly stunning! It’s my last week with my sweet daughters before they Launch and begin their adult lives. My youngest daughter, Sarah, will be leaving for Michigan for grad school and my oldest, Jessica will start her first job as a middle school instrumental music teacher about and hour away from home. I am drinking in and savoring each moment with them before they go. Your book will arrive just in time to relish and keep me occupied and keep me from missing them too much.

    • sbranch says:

Wow, a scarlet tanager . . . I wouldn’t have gone for the camera either ~ maybe he’ll be back! Ohh, that must be so strange for the babies to truly be leaving the nest . . . I wouldn’t like it. Sometimes I’d like to move home with my parents.

      • sondra fox says:

I keep a bird book right beside my computer, so that I can look up birds that GF’s talk about. I also carried a bird book in our motorhome, so that I could identify birds when we were on our many trips through our great country. When you mentioned the Tanager, I “had” to see what it looked like. No wonder you were excited when you saw one. They’re beautiful. So. CA is way too hot for most beautiful birds that live on in my PA (where I grew up) memory, but we do have some wonderful birds who sing for me each morning. One bird that I particularly miss is the Robin. I’ve always loved Robins. Just too hot for them here in So. CA. My resident Mockingbirds with their nightly songs & fun antics up on my garden wall, keep me company. Love the way they box with one another, going this way & that, jumping back & forth on the wall, looking at one another, perhaps in a mating game. There’s much to keep me content, here in my own backyard. (Sandy from Chihuahua Flats)

        • Judy in Ohio says:

Wow! A Scarlet Tanager! What a great surprise!

I really was not a “bird person” until my husband and I moved back to Ohio a few years ago, after living in south Florida for about 30 years. (My husband talked me into moving there soon after we were married. He grew up there and so wanted to return…Now we are back here in good ol’ Ohio, where I met him while he was “passing through”.) 🙂

Florida does not have such a wide selection of birds…and I did not have much time in those days to enjoy them anyway…BUT here …it is just simply amazing! So many…and so many types. I had (somehow) completely “forgotten” about many of them…(hummingbirds!)…and so now seeing them now and again is a very welcome surprise. You never know when or where. (We have deer that come into our yard too…but that is another story!! …I LOVE them too!!) I saw an Oriole one afternoon recently and I seriously became breathless!! So I can relate to your account, Mary. And I do love Robins too, Sondra! I was so excited when I saw the first one after we moved back, I took several pictures of it. (Shhhh!…I am sure most folks here would think I was quite nutty if they knew this!) 😉 I don’t know if I was in some kind of “stupor” when I was growing up, but I don’t recall seeing that many birds at all! I so look forward to it every day nowadays! They are a true blessing and a gift!

Thank you, girlfriends, for reminding me!

          <3

          • sbranch says:

Me either. Birds? What birds? It’s one of those things you grow into I guess. Lucky us!

          • Susan Morgon ( an Ohio gal in SoCal ) says:

I loved hearing the birds, especially in the mornings, when we visited back home last spring. Here in CA, we have a mockingbird who keeps me entertained with his variety of songs. Then there are the Long Beach parrots, who can’t fly if they don’t squawk. We can definitely tell when they are around! Other than that, not much in the way of a songbird here.

  33. Ahhhhhhh… It feels just like old times, Susan! It’s so lovely to find a letter from you this morning!! 🙂 It makes us all so happy!! The color proofs look amazing. We are all sharing in your joy, Susan! It won’t be long ’til The Fairy Tale Girl is making mailboxes happy across the world. 🙂 A looooooooong Willard is just the thing to tide us over until then! I’m smiling just thinking about it!

Wishing you and Joe some well-deserved lazy days and pretty sunsets!
    Fairy tale hugs,

Thank you Dawn! Happy day to you and yours. xoxo

      • It’s the first day of school here today! Although I’ve been retired from teaching second grade for a few years, I have been helping my friends get their classrooms ready for the big day. (Once a teacher, always a teacher!) So, today I’m celebrating the beginning of a new year of my Renaissance. (That’s my ‘R’ word, rather than retirement.) So many new things to learn, to create, and new ways to make a difference! I just love new beginnings! ♡♡ Have a happy day, Susan!

    • Dot from Illinois says:

      Hello Susan,
What a perfect Monday of sunshine and a visit from a dear friend Susan Branch. When you wait long enough with patience good things will come your way. So wonderful to have read a new blog from you this morning. Looking forward to the new upcoming season with you and maybe some new recipes along with twirling leaves outside the kitchen window and some good smells from the kitchen. I haven’t turned on the oven all summer. Grilling and crockpot only for hot weather. Missed you and a huge smile for your return.

Oh, my! The color proofs are stunning! I can’t wait to receive my copy of the final product, all ordered and paid for from your store! Loved the description of dusk and early morning in Martha’s Vinyard. A trip to your beautiful island is on our retirement bucket list…..only 4 years to wait!!

  43. carmel says:

I’m so glad to hear your Dad enjoyed our comments. I’m sure he knows they were all heartfelt. Also, so happy for you! I can’t wait to read your book(s). I’ve only been to MV once but it’s truly is a wonderous place. Thanks so much for always sharing it’s charms and beauty with us. Tiny blue butterflies? Maybe they really are fairies. I’m also so happy for your sense of accomplishment and freedom. Yay!

  44. Maryellen says:

So happy you are back! I am planning a tea party surprise with my very best girlfriends (since jr high in 69). I surprised them with A Fine Romance that you kindly signed from the both of us at a book signing at the Learned Owl in Ohio on my anniversary a few years ago – and now I will be able to gift them with the Fairy Tale Girl at the Goblin Tea Party in October! So excited – both for the book and their reactions! Life is Good!

  45. Rebecca Walsh says:

So excited to see a new posting from you. I suspect you do not realize how exciting it is to see a new post in the middle of the work day. I love the twilight harbor pictures and they take me back to the east coast.
Just spent a weekend with girlfriends (19th year) and how much I appreciate sharing with them your postings and recipes.
Looking forward to the arrival of the new book.

  46. Jamie Lynn from Virginia says:

Hi Susan! Oh I am SOOOooo happy for you! Your book proofs look like it will be fabulous. I can imagine you are so happy to be taking life back. Enjoy more wine and those beautiful pink island sunsets! xx

  47. pat addison (cave junction, OR) says:

good morning Susan, girlfriends, I was sitting out on the front porch enjoying our cool morning… 51 degrees out there, and only 85 for today… we are cooling off… FINALLY!!! at least I don’t have to go running out to the barn and henhouse to collect tubs, buckets and containers for water, rinse them all out and refill them with cool fresh water as much for now, and rinse out the duck pools and refill them so the ducks can stay cool and comfy. I was doing that 2-4 times a day everyday when the heat was on. but no heat casualties among the hens, ducks or turkeys and geese, everyone survived. its nice to sit out on the front porch early in the morning and watch the world go by!!! by the way today is National Cat Day honoring all felines, so Happy Cat day to Girl and Jack. my cats send loving purrs to them, as they are enjoying a day for them… extra hugs and love and snacks. just a few more weeks to go and its Labor Day and then after that school starts and Fall arrives…. pretty soon we will be hearing the Katydids singing in stead of the crickets, goodbye summer and hello Fall!!! I am so ready for the Fall to arrive, tired of this Summer and the heat. well off to get the clothes out of the washer and onto line to dry, pretty soon it will be time to put the clothesline away for the year and i’ll have to use the dryer again… I love my clothesline, love fresh scent of our clothes after they dry on the line and I love the savings, I save money on our energy bill every summer with that clothesline. off to work, have a wonderful day everyone….. hugs…. 🙂

    • pat addison (cave junction, OR) says:

oops goofed, it’s World Cat day….. Happy cat day kitties!!!

    • sbranch says:

Sounds like the good life Pat!!!

      • pat addison (cave junction, OR) says:

so far it is, been cooler so I can ease up on the water for the barnyard brats, but once it starts warming up again… back to the same routine. today is baking day, I bake apple and berry pies well I make them and freeze them ahead for use later on during the holidays, and I make up cookie dough and freeze that ahead for the holidays, stays good for about 6 months to 1 year. the hens are happy now, they got treats and a grass delivery ( I asked the neighbors around me to give their grass clippings to the barnyard brats so we don’t have spend a fortune on alfalfa hay all summer long, and everyone has been more than delighted to give us the clippings and make the birds happy. you should see what happy hens we have, and happy hens lay lots of eggs!!! later…. have a great day everyone…. hugs… 🙂

        • sbranch says:

I don’t even think about baking around here until September, and then it’s ALL I think about! 🙂 Going to a roadside stand today, wondering what goodies await!

          • pat addison ( cave junction, OR) says:

I don’t bake the pies, I make the crusts and fill them and then freeze them, they will keep about 3-6 months and I have pie in the Fall and for the holidays, do the same with cookie dough I make up the cookies dough, roll it up in waxed paper, plastic and then tin foil and put in large bags for freezing, those last up to a year, but not around our house, come around Thanksgiving i’ll be making more cookies dough for the holidays.

          • sbranch says:

Verrrry smart! I do that with cookie dough, but have always been afraid filling would keep crust from being crisp if I froze it . . . ?

        • pat addison (cave junction,OR) says:

I never had that problem Susan, but then I do cheat a bit, I freeze the pie crust first, then add the filling and top it with a frozen pie crust, works like a charm. a bit of work but worth it come Fall and Winter.

          • pat addison (cave junction,OR) says:

you can also freeze just the crusts, and do the filling when you get ready to bake the pie. I make tons of pie crusts and freeze them for future use, and come around the holidays I am glad I did it. either way cuts down the work later on, and the dishes and I am all for that. plus I love idea of having a pie or cookie dough in the freezer and available whenever I decide to do some baking. now if someone could only do that with cakes… life would be good. enjoy the produce stand, we have our farmer’s market on Fridays and I just love shopping those for fresh veggies and fruits. this week the county fair opens up, and a special treat, this Thursday the Knights of the Realm will hold jousting competitions at the fair, I can’t wait to go in costume of course as a tavern wench. have a good day everyone. 🙂

          • sbranch says:

Will you be carrying a goose?

          • sbranch says:

            Smart!

          • pat addison (cave junction, OR) says:

no I won’t be carrying a goose, just wearing my SCA costume from when I was a serving wench in the Stone Dragon Inn run by Tatsu. we had a ball doing that, and he took care of his wenches, no one ever insulted us or they answered to Tatsu. 😉

  48. Lori says:

Hello Susan! School is starting here in Indiana and I am a bit stressed. I keep reminding myself of good things to look forward to … like your book … and now a Willard too! YAY! 🙂

  49. Susan Havey says:

Thank you, Susan, for all the news, pictures and cheerful comments. It is awesome what you are able to create with your hands- writing, painting, cooking, photography and using them for sharing love all over the world! I can hardly wait for the new book and so want you to send a fairy to my fairy garden! She can cavort with my twin hummingbirds who perch on the miniature bench in my Fairy Garden.

I must ask how you keep your hands and fingers pain free and supple with all the writing and painting by hand? Given the amount of hand work you just completed I would think you deserve a loving hand massage!

Thank you so much for sharing your talents.

    • sbranch says:

She may already be there . . . look closely, on the back of the hummingbird! xoxo Hands are OK so far! Fingers crossed they stay that way.

  50. Audrianne Hill says:

Just picked up my 2016 wall calendar and blotter and here you are working on 2017! No rest for the wicked”ly” kind. Thank you! They are both so beautiful.

Take a moment to breathe before moving on.

  51. denni in MN says:

Congratulations, Susan!!! I can’t wait to see each and every page of your new book! Your work is such a delight to embrace – it makes every day that much more magical and enjoyable. THANK YOU!!!!

  52. Evelyn Pirolo says:

I LOVE your blogs — and everything else you produce! I no longer receive the blogs at my email address. It has changed a bit — so this is the new one, above. Thank you. Looking forward to your new book(s).

  53. Rosanne Murphy (Keizer, Oregon) says:

Ahhh – big sigh of contentment to enjoy a morning post from you, as we all savor the sweet things of life together. Your new book pages are gorgeous! I enlarged them as much as possible to get a good look, and felt a lovely little shiver of anticipation, imagining opening up and falling into a brand new SB book! You have certainly earned some time just to be. My daughter and I love the Italian saying “Dolce far niente”- the sweetness of doing nothing. Of course, doing nothing includes dreaming and taking life in with joy and gratitude. Love having you in my life!

  54. Ann says:

Happy Monday to you too! So happy to hear you can take a little break and enjoy life for a bit. Very excited for the next book! Your fairy needs a name!!

  55. Joann says:

Summer arrived very late in Colorado, but it’s splendid right now…..you are in my thoughts each day as I make some dreams come true here. They are ‘altered dreams,’ for certain, but dreams nonetheless. Explanations to come…..

Enjoy the cool breeze mornings, the birdsong, and the last moments of summer’s love….

    xoxo
    Joann

  56. Gosh it was only last week I brought your 2016 calendar so that I won’t miss out. I’ve had your calendar on my walls for years now, and a year without one will not feel the same. I bet planning for 2017 must feel odd.
Looking forward to your new books.
    Love Leanne NZ

  57. Christine Perica says:

I have the same feeling waiting for your book to arrive in the mail that I always get as Christmas approaches. Thank you for the photo of the pink sunset over the harbor. So miss the ocean in my land-locked New Mexico but your photos bring the gentle lapping water and salty smell to me. Enjoy your new found down time!

    • sbranch says:

I always think of the part of the country not hooked to the ocean when I send those photos . . . hoping everyone can feel it for a moment. Love to hear from you Christine!

  58. Teresa G., Lafayette, CA. says:

Such a wonderful blog today bursting with good news and oodles of gratitude! You are one-of-a-kind, Susan! I have a photo on my bulletin board in what I like to call “my playroom.” It’s of the two of us from your book signing at the Madonna Inn in 2013 and just seeing you makes me smile! Sets the tone for the whole day! So thank you for always brightening my day even when you’re hunkered down and unable to post. We know you’re working hard. I’m SO happy for you! XXO

  59. njean says:

jSusan, you have been soooooo very busy! I am beyond thrilled to learn of the second book and the new Willard coming. I might need a day off work!!! Please take care of yourself and rest a bit.

  60. I love your fairy’s long legs. I’m glad you have nothing on your plate for awhile. Enjoy the rest of the summer as we move into Autumn. I’m sure much is percolating.

  61. Patsy in Nixa, MO says:

Congratulations!!! I’m so happy for you.

And thank you for being an inspiration. Maybe I’ll finally get busy and finish my A Year of Everyday Tablescapes book now. If you can paint an entire book, surely I can finish one made up of photographs.

  62. Mary Ann says:

It’s lovely and cool this AM in Long Beach, CA too. The sun is just breaking through clouds and it’s just a few minutes before noon! My hydrangeas are still blooming although they have turned the lovliest bronzey green. I think that’s the first touch of Fall! And that brings us closer to the new book! Hurrah! Glad you are getting a bit of respite, time to stop and smell the roses before they are all blown dear one.

  63. Diane Byrum says:

WooHoo! Fairytale Girl looks lovely–but what else would it be? Can’t wait! When can we pre-order Isle of Dreams? The most wonderful thing about my day is when you post to your blog. It is a gift to me each and every time. Thank you, Sweet Susan

    hugs 🙂

  64. Lois from MI says:

I’m somewhat new to this so please tell me what Willard is? Will I get my Willard if I get your blog or do I need to sign up again for it? Thanks. I truly enjoy your writings and drawings even tho’ I am a Michigan Gal all the way through. Some of your pics of New England remind me of places in MI with Whitefish instead of Lobster.

    • sbranch says:

A WILLARD is my Newsletter, named for my grandfather, and the story about that is on the same page where you sign up for Willard. The WILLARD is separate from the blog, you have to sign up for it separately. And to sign up for WILLARD, scroll down on the Blog, look in the right hand column until you see the place where you can click on it. Let me know if you have any trouble. Thank you Lois!

  65. Troy Louise says:

Oh wow! The peeks of your new book are lovely. It would be hard to return them! I can’t wait to see it all in one. Thank you for the lovely pics of your beautiful island, and tempting us with the news of a new Willard. Big Hugs.

  66. Andi M says:

I love it when you tell us about the writing process. Thanks for sharing! I follow you on Twitter too, I find it a little confusing sometimes reading all the @s and #s. Reading your blog posts from top to bottom makes my day. Looking forward to Willard!

  67. Helen says:

So happy to find YOU in my inbox today 🙂 . Yesterday was my bff Karen’s birthday and since she passed away in 2012 this can be a pretty tough day……so you were just what my swollen tired eyes needed to see! Each year since 2012 to honor her special day I make a donation in her name for our small local library to buy books and the best part is that I am allowed to pick the subjects! Each of the books has a bookplate in the front with her name in it, and I just love that all of these books are out in the world being read and enjoyed by people who might share her interests and talents. So far, there have been books on Quilting, embroidery, children’s illustrated poetry, the 100th Anniversary illustrated Wind in the Willows, creative writing, container gardening, counted cross stitch, crochet, and small space gardening. Our librarian commented in a letter this year that she hopes the books they choose continue to honor the person she was, that they feel like they have become acquainted with her through my subject requests. That is so special to me! It feels like MY birthday……when the library thank you letter arrives each year listing the titles they have ordered within my suggestions :). Her family loves that she is still “making a difference”. Thrilled for you Susan, that book #1 is complete……what an amazing effort.

  68. Tricia Staley says:

    Susan,
Thank you for a wonderful post! What a great way to start the week!
It’s such a temptation to shout “roll-the-presses” when you sign off on the page proofs of a book … Can’t wait to read about the Fairy Tale Girl!!
    Tricia in CT

  69. sandy says:

Susan, I can feel the lightening of you at this moment, and what a lovely season to get to lift your head from your work and enjoy your Isle of Dreams. xox 🙂

  70. Carilyn Wolski says:

Hello Susan! So happy for you Susan! Your photo of the pages are a teaser to all of us, and I can hardy breathe knowing the book will soon be arriving!!!! So happy for you that YOU can now relax just a bit! The beautiful photos of the pinkish sunsets are worthy of framing……hint, hint….everything Susan Branch is a treasure!!! Your hydrangeas are sooooooooo pretty and plump with blossoms that I could just grab them right through the computer screen and plop them into a vase! Thank you for all of your dedication and discipline creating your book…..and……to know the second book is written, just awaiting your art, unbelievable!!!!! You are our sunshine!!!!! Smiles! Take care and enjoy the week!!!

  71. Hi Susan and thank you for today’s blog! But imagine my surprise when I saw the picture of the house lit up – its next door to me and is my cousins’ house!!!! I love looking at it when the lights come on – so cozy!! Can not wait to read your new book – am so excited that is almost ready. I will be counting the days until I have it my hands!!!

    • sbranch says:

Love the house, love the screened porch, just so full of mystery, tell them I said hello. We have a wonderful neighborhood here don’t we Lee? Thank you!!!

      • Susan P. says:

OH I TOO JUST LOVE WHEN A HOME IS ALL LIT UP FOR THE NIGHT!!!! My Husband and I take allot of walks right after sunset just to see the homes…and how the warmth and beauty just shines out to us all. I have said this before…I love the sunrises…I sing in the morning…(not many people are up yet) and I love the sunset…I dance in the evening….and in between I live and thank God for all my blessings.
Susan, Enjoy the lazy days of Summer now… and get ready for most people’s favorite time of Year….Autumn. Enjoy the rest and the Fruit of your labors…I think red wine is appropriate for this book being done. Love, Susan P.

      • Their porch is the best. We have so many wonderful dinners on that porch! Its a wonderful neighborhood. . .so glad you didn’t run into our resident skunk!!!

        • sbranch says:

We have our own to contend with. They seem late this year. I usually think of their fragrance as harbingers of spring.

  72. Jo says:

Everyone has said the most wonderful things that I feel all that is left to say is, “Ditto!”
Seriously, this post is a delight, as always, with the promise of more beauty in the near future which I will savor as we sell our home of 25 years and move on to a new adventure.
Thanks and keep up the good work.

    • sbranch says:

Joe and I think about doing that ourselves someday . . . but not yet. Best of everything to you Jo!

      • You mean you’re aren’t going to stay there forever for your kids (us!)? If you do ever sell, I think you should have one of those lotteries where you sell tickets (enough to cover what you need to get) so that one of us could “win” it. I’ve seen several house sellers in the midAtlantic do that.

        • sbranch says:

I’ve always thought that if I am putting my House of Creativity up for sale, I’m putting it on the blog first! It’s a wonderful house and deserves a wonderful “next” —

  73. Maria Shiyou says:

Oh, how I wish I was a morning person! You make it sound so peaceful and wonderful! But…I am a night owl for sure. And I don’t really like to sleep at all.

    • sbranch says:

We all need to get into our comfort zones whichever end of the rainbow they are on. I don’t want to sleep, I just have to!

  74. KarenP. (Wisconsin) says:

I ADORE your little butterfly fairies!!! Somehow you should market them into little fairies that we can hang all around the house! I saw some at a farmer’s market and right away I thought of your sweet fairytale book. Can’t wait! And a new Willard!! YES!

    • sbranch says:

I love my fairies too, and I haven’t seen ones like them before. I didn’t want people, I wanted fairies. Butterflies were the perfect start! Thank you Karen!

  75. CarolK from NJ says:

Enchanting, that’s what your blogs are! The pink of the bay reminds me of pink lemonade and now my mouth is watering for fried oysters too! I’m on MV overload!! Jersey Hugs to you and all of yours…….

  76. Diane from Poulsbo says:

How I needed this today! Thank you!! Usually I am fairly cheery , but the last few days I have felt like I was in a boat on some very rough waters, and your blog has come along and brought me such peace and joy again. You reminded me that my BRAND NEW BOOK is in the finishing stages…yay! My family understands that my books are like friends to me, and when I saw those gorgeous, finished pages…..it shot more joy my way and I now have my smile back. A new friend to be placed with all of your other books…which are on their very own bookshelf. I am sure Joe is thrilled to have you able to come up for air once again….and now Jack is going outside?? How fun for him! Your island is absolutely magical and so beautiful. I love the pictures you post so much….it is the perfect place to vacation and live. Can anyone imagine a more ideal place to raise children? They must love it there! Xxxxxx

  77. Ro'se from her 'cottage' in NJ says:

Came in from doing ‘chores’To find The Book is Done! (I have my pre-order in) I am so glad Susan loves us! You inspire me with beautiful pictures of sunsets, flowers, kitties and island life. I am also looking at the pictures of August from your calendar that hangs by my desk, makes rainy, humid NJ disappear even for a moment. I even hung paper lanterns on my little front porch, like you have on the Island. Thank you Susan for putting Beauty in my life!

  78. Nancy Roth says:

It is so wonderful to have you back, Susan! I have missed your joyous posts. It will be so fun to read another “Williard”! I have reread my printed editions (available through your shopping site) to get my “Susan” inspirations! My daughters and I are counting the days until “Fairy Tale Girl” is in my mailbox! Take care!

    • sbranch says:

We went to the point of no return on the book yesterday, it’s being printed and bound right now. . . eeeeeek!

  79. nellie says:

Dear, dear Susan ~ It is so wonderful to hear that your work is progressing well for you! Being able to hold that finished product in our hands – WOW! It shouldn’t be long, now.

I would cheerfully pay for a glass of wine and some fried oysters to be able to partake of that view! Well – it would take a bit more than the cost of the wine and oysters for us to travel to that beautiful spot.:-)

The picture of Jack reminds me of our beloved Ashes who loved finding his drink of water in a similar way!

A few frustrations with Internet connection currently. For once it isn’t in the computer!:-) We’re working on a solution and sometimes feel like we are on a merry-go-round when that wasn’t our choice.:-)

Sending wishes for a wonderful evening and week ahead!

    xo Nellie

    • sbranch says:

Good luck on he connection! Now they have us addicted, it’s very hard to live without it!

      • nellie says:

It seems like every place with which we want to do business wants us to do it online, too!:-) I chuckle when our Internet server wants to send us something to our email that will give us a hint on how to tackle the problem! Not a bad idea, but definitely won’t work if we aren’t able to keep that connection.:-)

  80. Marilyn says:

So excited for you! The book is done and the second is on it’s way to being done. Excited for us for Willard to be coming soon. Happy summer days.

  81. Debbie R from Valencia, Ca says:

Oh how adoreable is your little fairy. I love fairies. These last couple of years I have been making fairy gardens in my garden, in terrariums. It is so fun. I’m hooked. They make me giggle. I believe!! Do you!

It is so exciting to realize there will be soooooo many happy Girlfriends out there standing by their mailboxes waiting!!! Yippee!

Enjoy your much needed down time.

    Take care,

    Debbie

  82. Pam Betz says:

So glad your book will be out soon—-can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning to you, or should I say: Good afternoon to you, Susan. Was so happy to open up your latest post. So happy for you that the book is at the printers now. Can’t wait for it!!

I bet your household will be happy to get you back full time. You can take your morning, science walks without distraction. Jack will be happy to have you playing with him once again and Girl Kitty….. well, she’ll just be happy. Did I read on Twitter something about going to California later on? Will you be taking the train?

Well, take it easy and enjoy a bit of life.

    Carol M

  84. Angie Tink sprinkled her sweetness and a message that there was a new blog post…what in this world would we do without her, heralding the news with the most whimsical little hearts and flowers and stars and such…
The proofs! Oh be still my heart, how I know your excitement and relief..and the exhaling…finally to exhale and inhale and exhale.
The hydrangeas are calling my name, and how excited I am for this week’s end to find me traveling towards the magic …
Have a wonderful evening, dear one, and much love and hugs to you and Joe and Girl and sweet Boy,
    Always…Christie

  85. Rebecca~~Riverside, CA says:

Welcome back! That pink sunset is gorgeous.

  86. Diana @gardenthymewithdiana says:

What a sweet lovely post. Felt good after reading it. So glad for you.. completing your book.
Mine is on order. I like to say “DONE” when I’ve completed
something, it feels so good just to say it firmly..”DONE”

  87. Susan Morgon ( an Ohio gal in SoCal ) says:

Oh, how exciting! Seeing the proofs makes it so real, and I just can’t wait to see my book come in the mail ( I know all the girlfriends are nodding their heads in agreement). And Isle of Dreams….that’s just so, well….so dreamy! You are creating such treasures for us.
I loved the evening pictures you put up; that sky is lovely. Just look at the pink reflected in the water!
I can’t wait to tell you about a very fun thing that happened in May. I was able to meet Chris Wells from Texas while we were both visiting our Ohio homes. Isn’t that wonderful? And it’s all because of your so very special blog! We only had a couple of days overlap in our visit, but we were able to make it happen. Chris invited my husband and me to her son’s home, where we were able to get acquainted with her and her husband around the fire outside ( and it was downright nippy in Ohio at that time! ), plus we enjoyed meeting her son and his family. Such fun! Girlfriends are the best! One of the things I’ve looked forward to is seeing all the familiar names in the comments when you were able to resume your blog. I love it here!
I hope you are getting some well-deserved rest and can leisurely work on your artwork for book two. Enjoy!

    • sbranch says:

Oh Susan, how great for you and Chris! Just love it! Thank you for telling me! And yes, I’m resting. A nap on this rainy day is definitely in order. xoxo

      • Chris Wells In Knickerbocker, W TX says:

We are definitely enjoying the friendship and hoping it is not the last time we are able to get together in person! It was just so funny to find out we lived in neighboring towns when we lived in Ohio. I told Susan we probably passed each other on the street or more likely stood in the same book store!
Thank you Susan Branch for this wonderful gathering place of kindred spirits. We all love it here!
        Chris

  88. Cathy Dupuis says:

The proofs look amazing I have preordered so I am trying to wait patiently.
Glad you are free to enjoy the rest of August as you wish. Husband and I have spent some time at the Maine Beaches this summer with friends and have really enjoyed kayaking the lakes and ponds in our area. We have caught a few sunsets but not much for sunrises, on my days off I sleep in and then shuffle to our amazing porch with a cup of coffee and just enjoy the quiet and our gardens.
    Cathy

  89. Marge Smith says:

Thank you for sharing with us. I enjoy your artwork, books, and cookbooks. I am blessed to own several! So looking forward to 2016 Calendars :0) Have a lovely evening. Blessings. ~ Marge ~

  90. Vicki says:

Okay, first of all. I want your life. WOWEE. Those pink-tinged photos of bobbing boats hold great allure…

How come every time I read a new post from you, I well up? I can be having the worst day ever, and what you say and send just spills me over but in a really soothing, deeply-felt way. I always feel such a sense of calm and satisfaction afterward…the ‘God’s in his Heaven, all’s right with the world’ thing. I think your gift is to take away harshness and give away comfort.

You may have outdone yourself with these two books…both the writing and the art. It is the most fun thing to be looking forward to these two treats and I know I’ll read them over and over again; keepers.

You must have a tremendous feeling of accomplishment and relief. Like the writing maybe brought you back to a center, tying up all the loose ends; almost maybe a sort of reconciling and clear sail ahead like never before.

I hope the next weeks and new months of autumn fill your soul the way you do us.

Savor your days ahead, Susan! Big hug of thanks, too.

    • sbranch says:

Every word of your comment is wonderful. I think we both well up because we are believers in hope. And yes, I feel like it has brought me back to the center, and I’m LOVING writing the last little details in the second book. You are a doll Vicki, thank you for your lovely words. xoxo

  91. Samantha says:

LOVED those shots from the restaurant- for a second I could smell the lobster and salty air 🙂 I must say I cannot wait for this book to come out!! So excited! XOXO

  92. Terrie from Atanta, GA says:

Dear Susan, CONGRATULATIONS on finally putting “Fairy Tale Girl” to bed, so to speak. The proofs look mah-ve-lous: what a thrill it must have been to actually hold them in your hands. Now we Girlfriends can begin the fun of waiting for a special package in the mailbox! Is it true that you plan on signing all of the pre-ordered copies? I would settle for a thumbprint … or a paw print … a smeary breakfast jam-print … toast crumbs … or even a lowly dust bunny (which surely you must have after so many months of hard work). You could start a new trend: no more author’s cramp! XoXo

    • sbranch says:

I signed pages and pages of small bookplates we made for them — Kellee and Sheri will put them in the books before they’re sent. I watch TV and sign my name! And yes, we have plenty of lowly dust bunnies around! 🙂 ‘Bout to do something about that!

  93. Mary in Colorado says:

I feel like I died and went to heaven…you are back with a bang and a Willard, two beautiful
books to daydream about and to look forward to and more frequent “walkabouts” with you
and Joe..kitties too. I’m pretty happy about all of it and grateful to you for letting us ride along on the “shirt tails” of your lives. Thankyou for all these gifts!

    • sbranch says:

I love the connection between us, thank you for being here Mary! Hope you are out of the flooding and orange water that seems to be plaguing Colorado these days!

  94. Milanya says:

I met you in Iowa City, IA, when you were on the book tour for “A Fine Romance.” Are you planning another tour for either of your new books?

  95. Anne Miller says:

Thank you, “Miss Beautiful Light” for this lovely post. I love your work ethic and your capacity to give. CANNOT wait for your book.

  96. Karen from Milton, WA says:

    Hi Susan.

Glad you are coming up for air. I love the drawing of your fairy. We used to have a beautiful silk tree (or mimosa they are called too) that would get the most ethereal blossoms of silky white and pink. I renamed the tree my “fairy tree” because that is what the blossoms reminded me of. Thanks for creating another precious memory moment with your art! Love, Karen

    • sbranch says:

We have a tree that looks just like it called Albizzia . . . so I know exactly what you’re saying… should be fairy tree! Thank you Karen!

  97. Jackie Cavitt says:

Hello, Susan!! So nice to hear from you and to know your book is coming soon! And a Willard in the meantime!! I’ve been enjoying beautiful sunflowers at my window at work and sweet little finches on them enjoying them even more! But I am looking forward to my favorite season too…FALL!! Enjoy the rest of your summer and I will watch for Willard!! Love you, my dear…Jackie

  98. Kathleen Hinson says:

Martha’s Vineyard, hydrangeas, a new book!! You must feel that your life is a dream:) Congratulations!!!

  99. Kathie says:

August is something special. A summer storm is brewing outside. The wind is restless in the maples. A drift of the scent of rain in the air…..and some ozone….There’s nothing like it. So glad your book(s) are coming along. We can hardly wait. Thank you for your hard work. Ooooo! Thunder. Yes!

    • sbranch says:

Read the “new word” on the September page of my 2015 calendar! I think it will be just your cup of tea. We have the storm here, and it’s loverly. Smells very delicious.

  100. Barbara Stewart says:

I just can’t wait for new book. I hope you are going to keep writing after you rest a bit I have always wanted to ask where you continue to find your incredible so meaningful quotes? Never stop writing & painting. Your fans would be so sad.

    • sbranch says:

I don’t think I will ever stop now. I just love it. Only if my hand goes bad on me or something else. I’ll be here till the end. xoxo
