HAPPY MONDAY GIRLFRIENDS! MUSICA
Those are words from my new book, THE FAIRY TALE GIRL ~ I’m designing bookmarks for it now, I think I’ll put this on one of them . . . I am so excited . . . the book is at the printer ~ it won’t be long now! I just received the color proofs . . . and thought you would like to see.
The printer sent these sample pages so I can check the color and the cut-lines and make sure everything is being printed inside the borders. They looked pretty good to me! They wouldn’t let me keep them, wah, I had to okay them and send them back! Thank goodness for cameras or I might not believe it happened.
I had to paint fairies for the new book, here is one of them, I love her. We have these tiny blue butterflies here on the Island that come for only a couple of weeks in the spring and float down the dirt road with us in the mornings, two or three at a time. Like magic. So I modeled my fairies after them, except of course for the hands and feet! ANYWAY, I just wanted to say . . .
I’m still trying to catch up and get life back to normal. I just finished designing the covers for the 2017 calendars. The manufacturer always needs those first, for their catalog. I have to say, painting “2017” was shocking. I had to go check, I couldn’t believe I had the right date, but 
I did! So they are done, and right now, I am deep in the throes of writing a new WILLARD ~ I figured it was about time! You have all been so patient. I checked with the Twitter girls last night and everyone said they wanted a long one, so prepare yourself. You might have to take the day off. After that, believe it or not, I will have nothing on my plate. N O T H I N G, I can empty my trash and it will stay empty! How do you like the sound of that? I’m pretty excited. I even got the title for the cover of book two of this Fairy Tale painted:
That book is all written too, I’m way ahead of myself ~ I can work to finish it with art and photos more slowly and over time. Right now, it’s time-out for fruits-of-labor enjoying! Already there’s more time for appreciating the little things that make life sweet, taking the camera out on our walk, having naps with old movies, eating lobsters, taking Jack out to the garden so he can munch the grass and I can admire things like this:
The island is frothing over with hydrangeas these days . . . this one is growing under our bird feeders.
We went out to dinner the other night and watched the sun set over the harbor . . . such a gorgeous evening. Now you know why I call it Isle of Dreams.
Hard to believe you can sit right there and have all that just for the price of a glass of wine and a plate of deep fried oysters. Wow. Right?
We went out for a walk after dinner last night, just as it was getting dark . . . middle of August and quiet, summer nights in our neighborhood, crickets cricketing. You should hear what I hear right now, at 6 a.m. . . . . Not a sound from my studio window but birds singing, cool air flowing in and just the barest light in the blue sky beginning to show outside. My favorite time of day.♥
That’s what I’m doing! There’s one of my blessings drinking out of the sink!↓ ♥
It takes me about four days to write and design a WILLARD, then I send it to Kellee so she can work her magic on it, which means we 
plan to have it all ready to go by August 18th. Once we push the “send button” it takes about three days for the whole thing to go, it has to be sent in batches (so we don’t destroy the Internets), so if you know anyone who would like to have a WILLARD, they’re free of course, and all you have to do is sign them up and boom, it will show up in their email box (if you don’t see yours, always check your spam folder because some computers might (rudely) block it). And FYI, there will be a mighty fine Giveaway involved in this WILLARD ~ and all kinds of other surprises too. I’ve warned Vanna she might actually have to work when it comes out so she should plan for it! I’m a real tyrant with that girl.

I am so excited as I just received notification that your newest book will be shipped to me September 10th….I am so excited to receive it. I so enjoyed your last book “A Fine Romance”….I lived in Southern England and reading your book was a trip down memory lane….I am now back in Canada after 32 years in UK and have been here now for 11years. I am in Atlantic Canada and give thanks everyday. Once I have left this comment I am going to read Willard, I was so pleased to see the email with it and will make a cup of tea to sip while I read it.

My daughter is following your words to a tee. She was married 3 weeks ago, they just moved into their little house…..then she called me last night to tell me that she found a lady that has kitties for free and she is getting her very own tuxedo cat!! Sounds like happily ever after for her and that makes this momma very happy!

Hello Susan. I just discovered your blog last year and love your comments and artwork. I purchased your “Fine Romance” book and loved reading about your trip. My husband and I travelled to England, Scotland, and Wales last September and your book helped me relive some of our favorite experiences! I am a huge Downton Abbey fan, and also loved Sunday nights this summer because of Poldark. Cornwall is currently one of my favorite places on earth. Hi Susan….In June my husband and I moved from Oceanside, Calif near San Diego to Willamette Valley area in Oregon, and, while I miss the ocean, I am falling in love with the beautiful farms, abundant fruits & veggies, and the wonderful ladies I have met so far, including a creative, energetic, kind, positive and thoughtful lady that I have dubbed my new “susan b.” friend. She is such a wonderful “uplift” to have in my life right now, after such a stressful selling of house, and moving to another state experience. I am so grateful to you and people like you and her who are determined to “live and give” to their utmost every day of their lives. It energizes me and puts a smile on my face every morning. I needed you today and here you are, fairy tales, enchanting photos of here and there and well, everywhere. I am always the ‘up’ person and today not so ‘up’. Visited a friend who made a luvlee cup of tea and sandwich for me and came home and found this. Yeah. Oh yes, I love your book A Fine Romance, first loaned by a friend called Georgia, then I bought one, then I bought two more and gave them to other friends and left one with my sister in England, who lives in Kent, where I was born many years ago. I also bought three little calendars for my next door neighbor and me and someone else, oops can’t remember who for. I love looking at it and putting stuff on it. And can you believe there are a few of us girls (what a hoot at anywhere from 60 to 80+) that have formed a group of us and called ourselves The Luvlee Ladies and we meet once a month at each others homes and we have the best of times, Tea anyone….. You have bought light and sunshine into my world, OK there was already both in my world, but you know what I mean, right? Thank you for being you, love your husband (although love my husband John even more) and your cats, my poor kitty died this year, boo hoo. Nevertheless the joy he bought me is still there. I always enjoy your blog so much … it is so cheerful. Have you ever watched the BBC series Rosemary and Thyme? It is a mystery series but the “detectives” are gardeners and each show is filmed in a different beautiful garden. We enjoyed it so much (but, then I like mystery stories).

I’d like to enter the drawing. Thank you for keeping Martha’s Vineyard alive for me. I went there twice on the Fairy Boat when I lived in Needham MA for 5 years – from the late 80s through the early 90s. I grew up in Anaheim Calif and absolutely fell in love with Massachusettes and New England. I wish I could have raised my family there. Loved seeing the little kids in the winter learning to ice skate on ponds by pushing a little chair around in front of them. I loved all the wonderful patriotic and historical places and activities. So I really love getting to experience all of it through your blog and books and calendars every year. I bought your early cookbooks when I first moved to MA and fell in love with you and your style and foods and all of your fun ideas! You make life extra special! And I have shared you with my friends here on the West Coast and in Iowa where I was born. I live in the beautiful state of Washington now and love that I can still experience Martha’s Vineyard right here. I have a very cute throw pillow designed by you – of a young lady in a straw hat with ribbons blowing in the wind, looking out at the sea and sailboats going by. I have her sitting on my white whicker rocker next to my fireplace. I have brought you into the “heart of my home”. Thank you for making my life and days extra special. Love you, Madeline

I started to explain, he interrupted me and said”you mean we aren’t related?”NO! What made you think that I asked,he said you talk about her so much I thought she was a relative” I wish, but I am a long time girlfriend.

-I am a foster parent for shelter rescue cats. I have 3 of my own and as of now 3 recues, although an application has been turned in for one of them.

I met you in Cayucos last year @ the book signing, I brought my copy of your Autumn cookbook and am so happy to have had you sign it.
My husband had passed recently and I was weepy and you were so sweet and
kind. Today is has been a year and a month and the sadness of Gene being gone
is beyond words.
With the help of family, friends and a wonderful support group, I’m getting
through the days and weeks. There is no closure just a slow acceptance.
As always, I end by telling people to go home and hug the ones they love because
that person can be gone in a second.
Your writings and lovely thoughts and paintings bring happy moments to life.

Can’t wait for your new book and also………… your calendars too. But when your new books come out I surelye will be getting even more excited and I can hardly wait. Which also means, I hope another trip and signing in California. So will be waiting for news when you will be doing that. I always try and get two books one for my sister( Joni) and me. I bring a friend along too when you come to California as we would not miss one of your events. Meet two wonderful new friends when you were up in San Luis Ospiso two years ago this Fall.
