HAPPY MONDAY GIRLFRIENDS! MUSICA
Those are words from my new book, THE FAIRY TALE GIRL ~ I’m designing bookmarks for it now, I think I’ll put this on one of them . . . I am so excited . . . the book is at the printer ~ it won’t be long now! I just received the color proofs . . . and thought you would like to see.
The printer sent these sample pages so I can check the color and the cut-lines and make sure everything is being printed inside the borders. They looked pretty good to me! They wouldn’t let me keep them, wah, I had to okay them and send them back! Thank goodness for cameras or I might not believe it happened.
I had to paint fairies for the new book, here is one of them, I love her. We have these tiny blue butterflies here on the Island that come for only a couple of weeks in the spring and float down the dirt road with us in the mornings, two or three at a time. Like magic. So I modeled my fairies after them, except of course for the hands and feet! ANYWAY, I just wanted to say . . .
I’m still trying to catch up and get life back to normal. I just finished designing the covers for the 2017 calendars. The manufacturer always needs those first, for their catalog. I have to say, painting “2017” was shocking. I had to go check, I couldn’t believe I had the right date, but I did! So they are done, and right now, I am deep in the throes of writing a new WILLARD ~ I figured it was about time! You have all been so patient. I checked with the Twitter girls last night and everyone said they wanted a long one, so prepare yourself. You might have to take the day off. After that, believe it or not, I will have nothing on my plate. N O T H I N G, I can empty my trash and it will stay empty! How do you like the sound of that? I’m pretty excited. I even got the title for the cover of book two of this Fairy Tale painted:
That book is all written too, I’m way ahead of myself ~ I can work to finish it with art and photos more slowly and over time. Right now, it’s time-out for fruits-of-labor enjoying! Already there’s more time for appreciating the little things that make life sweet, taking the camera out on our walk, having naps with old movies, eating lobsters, taking Jack out to the garden so he can munch the grass and I can admire things like this:
The island is frothing over with hydrangeas these days . . . this one is growing under our bird feeders.
We went out to dinner the other night and watched the sun set over the harbor . . . such a gorgeous evening. Now you know why I call it Isle of Dreams.
Hard to believe you can sit right there and have all that just for the price of a glass of wine and a plate of deep fried oysters. Wow. Right?
We went out for a walk after dinner last night, just as it was getting dark . . . middle of August and quiet, summer nights in our neighborhood, crickets cricketing. You should hear what I hear right now, at 6 a.m. . . . . Not a sound from my studio window but birds singing, cool air flowing in and just the barest light in the blue sky beginning to show outside. My favorite time of day.♥
That’s what I’m doing! There’s one of my blessings drinking out of the sink!↓ ♥
It takes me about four days to write and design a WILLARD, then I send it to Kellee so she can work her magic on it, which means we plan to have it all ready to go by August 18th. Once we push the “send button” it takes about three days for the whole thing to go, it has to be sent in batches (so we don’t destroy the Internets), so if you know anyone who would like to have a WILLARD, they’re free of course, and all you have to do is sign them up and boom, it will show up in their email box (if you don’t see yours, always check your spam folder because some computers might (rudely) block it). And FYI, there will be a mighty fine Giveaway involved in this WILLARD ~ and all kinds of other surprises too. I’ve warned Vanna she might actually have to work when it comes out so she should plan for it! I’m a real tyrant with that girl.
Blog Daddy had so much fun with all your comments and best wishes for his birthday. Thank you for letting him feel how special he is. ♥ You are a power for good. You can take pride in having totally MADE someone’s day. ‘Course you do that for me all the time! So, there you go. Spreading sunshine.♥ Love you ~ have a wonderful day! XOXO
Just pre-ordered your new book! I loved reading A Fine Romance so much and I know this new book will be just as charming (like everything you do)!!!
I’ve had such a great morning thanks to your WILLARD! You are positive inspiration and I love, love, love your beautiful art! Thank you for making my day!
Good morning Susan from Washington state. So enjoyed your Willard this morning. It has made my day. Your kitty Girl looks just like our late girl named Cookie. Brings back such sweet wonderful memories. Can hardly wait for the new book. Enjoy your day!
Deb
LOVED this post and Willard too! Thank you SO much for all the wonderful stories and love you pour into everything you do! Life is CRAZY good! ♥
Dear Susan,
You are a gift to ALL..so enjoyed Willard and taking me back to my visits on Martha’s Vineyard.Love your posts and thank you for reminding us to stop and smell the flowers!
Congratulations on finishing all your projects (to date). 🙂
Thank you Susan for YEARS of enjoying your granola. I received The Summer Book for my birthday in June, 1995 and now 20 years later I still have granola on my yogurt EVERY DAY! I added more almonds ’cause they are so good for me. Your personal approach and beautiful illustrations make all your writing a delight to read and see. Thank you!
I just read through my Willard and as always I feel uplifted and inspired. I do believe “Fairy Tales Do Come True”….I would like to make a comment on the Blog to be considered for the Giveaway…this is no easy task since I’m not a blogger but it is too good to not make an effort. Here is my comment: I love everything Susan Branch….always have, since the very first cookbook, and always will! I even had the chance to shop in the store in Arroyo Grande, California.
You did a good job Maryanna! Thank you!
Thank you for the latest Willard, it made my day. I’ve been on your list since the beginning when it was snail mail, and have loved and been charmed by your missives ever since. After reading”A Fine Romance” my husband and I embarked on a five week driving odyssey through England, Ireland and Scotland last September and October. Like you, we had a fabulous time and were also blessed with perfect weather. The only two days it rained were when we went back and forth from Ireland on the ferry and were confined on the boat most of the day! I’ve been trying to preorder your new book, but am having trouble getting PayPal to hook up. But rest assured, I’ll keep trying until I have success. Oh, one more thing! We have an annual event here in Eureka Springs, AR, called Books in Bloom that takes place on the grounds of the wonderful old Victorian hotel, The Crescent. Noted authors come to speak and sign books in white tents dotting the lawn. My husband, Woody, is on the board of directors for the event and I will have him recommend you to the lady who procures the authors that are invited. I hope I will see you there! (It always takes place in May). Until then, continue adding to all of our lives with your lovely work.
May is perfect! Your trip sounds like it was perfect too!
I enjoy Willard very much. I stop what I am doing and read every word and salivate over every picture!
It is lots of fun, and I am extremely intrigued about the new book. Thanks for a chance to win a copy!
Hoping to get an emailed Willard!
Let me know if you don’t get one today!
Susan, Thank you SO very much for the Willard today…I really needed it! I shipped both of my girls off to college this past weekend and my one and only kitty, Bruce, is very ill. Back and forth to the hospital 3 times so far. It’s been hectic and sad but Willard was a bright spot. Bruce usually sits on the desk listening to the bird chirping on Willard, trying to figure out where it is but he’s not up to it. Thank you again!
Wishing you the best with Bruce. xoxo
What a surprise to open my e-mail and find your e-mail! My husband and I have reservations at a B&B in Cape Cod in September(first time visiting) and I can’t wait to visit Martha’s Vineyard…something I’ve always wanted to do. Just hope the weather is nice….but, after receiving this e-mail, today, I know it will be perfect. Carol Aiello
My best friend just forwarded the latest WILLARD to me and, now that I’ve read it, I’ve subscribed so that I may have future editions emailed directly to me.
I also would like to share this with you: it is a Christmas tradition for our family of four to exchange calendars for the new year – my husband has presented me with your Heart of the Home calendar every Christmas for as long as I remember, and I so look forward to it each year! Thank you, Susan, for your artwork, inspirational quotes, and for reminding me to find joie de vivre in life’s simplest blessings.
Susan, I have your next project. Make a adult coloring book for all of us big children who still enjoy coloring. It was always my favorite thing to do as a child maybe after cut-outs. I am so happy to have grandchildren to color with.
Coloring is the new thing now, but I have had a lifelong love of coloring. Always enjoy reading everything you do.
Suzanne
I have been asked to do it, it’s just the time thing!
I love reading all your books!
For some reason, I don’t receive Willard, though I’ve signed up several times.
See if you get it today, if you don’t, first thing is to check your spam folder. If it’s not there, and you don’t have it by 10 am eastern time, let me know and I’ll make sure you get it.
Love the watercolor. I would frame it.
Susan, YOU, YOUR OUTLOOK AND TALENTS JUST MAKE ME SMILE INSIDE OUT! THANKS FOR BEING YOU AND SHARING SO KINDLY YOUR SUNSHINE AND LOVE!!!!
Thank you for the latest Willard. Love them! Can’t wait to receive your new book! It’s been preordered!
Love, love, love your art!!
The blog is lovely…like a trip to Martha’s Vineyard! Love to read them!

I just bought both your 2016 large and small calendars. I am SO excited to SLOWLY page through each one, read every word and uplifting message, as well as simply enjoy the illustrations and happy colors! There is nothing I can say that hasn’t been said. We all love what you share. Your calendar is on the wall next to me, every year I buy it without looking ahead at the pictures and words, so as I turn the month over it’s a treat. Kisses to Jack and Girl Kitty.
You bring joy to so many girlfriends! 100 fold blessings back to you; come to Indiana any time! Our local bookstore in Irvington is Bookmamas-tell Kathleen I sent you. I hope to meet you one day-all the best to you, Joe & your kitties.

I commented a few days ago but I think my comment was lost in the shuffle since I didn’t see it on the date and time I made it. We missed you, Susan and we are truly happy you’re back!
Love the new Willard, fell in love with A Fine Romance, can’t wait for new books; thsnks for all your hard work.
Wonderful Willard, always a fun read! Can’t wait for the new book to come out and looking forward to all the new goodies in 2016. Love your pictures of where you live. I was lucky to visit Maine a few years ago and fell in love with that area! You and Joe are so lucky to live in that part of the country!
Susan dear,
It bring much joy reading your books and sharing them with friends. I feel wrapped in old-fashioned goodness. I’ve wanted to be more like you ever since discovering your style. “Perhaps imagination is only intelligence having fun.” Many thanks, Janice
Looking forward to your new book!
You are so generous with your art, life, family, dreams, time, trips, food. Thank you always. I can hardly wait for new books and all that comes. I have got to get to a book signing. So any givewaway i can be in please include me. Thank you. Happy late summer day
Debra
Thank you for bringing so much joy into my life with your Willard and blog and beautiful books and sharing your soul with all of us! What a beautiful exquisite body of work with such great authorship and illustrations you have created! I can’t wait until I read these next two books. My father just came out of surgery so I read your touching Willard to distract me while I was waiting for word of the outcome. One of your most devoted California girls!
I love your view on life and everyday things. It is so refreshing in our hectic world. Am still enjoying summer as we had a long and wet cool spring right through to July here in the mountains. The wildflowers were spectacular this year. The animals counts skyrocketed too and have been patching holes in the siding from woodpeckers. Had our first little bit of frost on the roof this morning, so we know that autumn is on the way soon. Maybe a long Indian summer would be nice to make up for our short season. Your books are great! I can travel to country places outside my own backyard and share with you in your wonderful, whimsical style. Keep writing and drawing. It is a gift.
Hi Susan, Just read Willard…you are an inspiration. What fun. Take care. The Avila Beach Girl…
Great to have you back in my life!
Enjoying Willard and your Blog as always, as well as looking forward to the new books and the new (sadly, last) season of Downton Abbey! But more than anything I enjoy feeling like I get to experience the Vineyard just a little when you describe your walks and all the happenings around there! I live in Santa Barbara and totally understand the happiness of “getting your town back” after the summer tourists have gone. 🙂
Thanks for taking us with you on your daily adventures!
Hi Susan,
I just finished reading your August blog and loved it! You just brighten my day and I love that you share your wonderful experiences with me. I love all those things you do and I feel like I’m right there with you enjoying them too. I’ve never been to your part of the country but feel like I am there every time I read your blog or Willard. I would love to have your new book and hope I’m lucky!
All the best,
Marlene
I was so excited to see Willard! I am saving it to read at the Cape this weekend! I want to savor every word! Thank you girlfriend!
Your blog makes Martha’s Vineyard sound so idyllic. Hope to get there one day. When is the best time to visit, I wonder. You make September sound especially inviting. For now, I’ll just enjoy your books.
September or October or early June . . . but not August! 🙂
Thanks for THE WILLARD today!!!!!!!!!!!! Visiting my BFF and her hubby in southern CA……..we’ve both picked up some kind of BUG so commiserating together reading WILLARD, listening to MUSICA, blowing our noses, coughing and drinking LOTS of tea!!!!!!!!!!!! This was the perfect boost to our day!!!!!!!!!!!
I love WILLARD – it was so great to get it in my inbox. I notice they are available in what appears to be a bound book but only through 2003? Is there another one I am missing from 2003 to now?
Please enter me in the drawing. Would love to win.
Before 2003 Willards went via snail mail so they were easy to reprint and bind into a book. After that (because WILLARD had grown so big, and because the computer was able to handle it, and it was much more affordable too) I was able to send them through email. And with all the photos and things, I just haven’t had time to figure out an easy way to convert the Willards into a book. Need HELP! 🙂
Thank you for blessing my day with your delightful Willard and blog! I loved it all! I love your stories about Jack!
Love your books and calendars. I keep the blotter on my desk at work and enjoy the wall calendar at home. Looking forward to your new book! Thanks for so many sweet memories and feelings ❤️
Thank you for taking the time to create this personal blog. Your books are such treasures, and receiving this regular blog lets me imagine what it would be like to be your friend. I enjoyed A Fine Romance so much and lived vicariously off your trip to England. Your colorful, beautifully drawn calendar greets me every morning. I can’t wait to see your new book and calendar.
Just ordered the new book for my BFF 🙂
I’m so excited!
Thank you for all you do for the world and especially for all of us that adore you so much!!
I could go on & on & on but can’t at the moment ….
Oxoxo

My dear, you are a breath of fresh air. I love escaping with you and Joe and feel relaxed and rested when I finish your blog. As I understand from Willard, we are supposed to leave a one or two-word comment to qualify for your new giveaway. Here is mine: “exquisite”
Love that word. I’ll add it to my list of words.
Thx so much for the great coleslaw recipe! I have been looking for a good one and yours sounds yummy-can’t wait to try! Thx for all yr inspiration!
……. Forgot to also thank you for the new Willard and also that I think I sent 7 mini calendars to girlfriends last Christmas 🙂
All SB admirerers 🙂

Loving these posts and traveling with you on your fairy tale life (can’t wait!)
Love, Love, Love the new Willard letter! Nice way to end my day. Can’t wait to read your new book – looks great.
Susan,
In this stressed filled world and day to day busyness, I find myself going to your blog to escape. Your home and your world on Martha’s Vineyard fill me with the simple pleasures my soul craves – cozy home, books, furry babies, beautiful scenery and delicious food! What more could one ask for?
Thank you for being you!
Susan. You are amazing and really lifted my spirits today when I needed it the most. My daughter and I (and even our granddaughters, age 6 &4). Adore all of your work . We lost Carie, daughter and mommy very suddenly just a few months ago. I have one of your quilt pattern and fabric kits started but not finished and reading your update today inspired me to get it out and finish it for her precious girls. Carie was so anxious to have me make it and I think this would honor her in a special way. I even think I will get your holiday cook books out too and perk up my kitchen. I know my daughter would cheer me on to brighten up. We miss her so!! Thank you again for all of your joy!! Fondly Candy
I’m so sorry to hear of your loss, Candy. I think a quilt is an amazing way to honor someone. It will last forever and always be a part of your family. Sending love xoxo
Such a lovely, welcome Willard! I really needed this wonderful step away from everyday life. Thank you for sharing yourself with your many friends! Love to the kitties!
what a blessing to read your blog and thanks for the chance to win some of your goodies. I too am looking forward to a wonderful fall season.
Hi Susan Just finished reading Willard and had a look at the blog.. Your new book looks lovely. I admire your work and enjoy reading about your adventures. I too love my roses in Summer…The Rose is also my all time favorite song.
Hello Susan! Lovely to visit with Willard this afternoon. Beautiful description of your ordinary Summer days on the Island. I can picture it all now! Congratulations on your new books. They look wonderful. Thank you for reminding us to stop for a few moments and enjoy your inspiring words and delightful illustrations. So nice to hear from you!
Happy “End of Summer” to you!
Cindy
i love reading Willard!! I take care of my 91-year-old mother and I read her the whole thing while showing her all the pictures. I admire all that you do and enjoy hearing all your stories. Thank you Susan!!
Hugs to her Michelle, and to you too!
Absolutely lovely Willard, as usual, and the blog too! Wonderful new things to look forward to! The children start school this week so soon it will be fall – can’t believe it! My only thought about your wonderful new “surprise” is… Please pick me!!!
Loved reading Willard today. Looking forward to your next book!
Hi Susan, what a fun Willard! I always enjoy them!! Still love your happy blog! That is awesome that you and Joe are planning another trip to England AND Scotland! Yay! 😉 I look forward to reading your new books! Loved A Fine Romance! :). Smiles, Deborah 😉
Your calendars and books have been a part of my life for many, many years and I always look forward to what you will bring us next. I love being a Texan but visiting the Vineyard again is on my bucket list; the one time we were able to steal a day from a Boston business trip to take the ferry over, it was such a crowded summer day we could not fully appreciate the beauty. The hydrangeas alone would be worth the trip!
Love your blog and now Willard. Can’t wait to read your new book!
Looking forward to reading both your new books!
Missed you awfully while you were busy with the new books, but can’t wait to read them! Thank you also for this week’s Willard! You are a ray of sunshine!
Just reading WILLARD and your blog brightens my day. I can’t wait for fall, too. Looking forward to reading your new book.
Susan, I was so excited to see Willard in my inbox. I absolutely love your zest for life and just reading your blog dissolves all my stress and worries. Your upbeat take on life is contagious. Thanks for creating such beauty!
Hi Susan!!!
Oh I just can’t wait for Fall. My absolute favourite time of the year. Don’t get me wrong, every season brings it own wonders, but maybe being an October Baby has something to do with that. Loved reading your blog , especially after a long busy day. My favourite cup of Jo and curled up on the sofa reading your latest, brought a warm smile to my face. Thank you so much! Looking forward to reading more. Enjoy the rest of your summer….something beautiful is just around the corner.
Anne
Sitting down to read the Willard makes for a relaxing end to my day. I’m so excited for the new book. Every time I look at Jack and Girl I smile. What fine cats they are!
I finally found a copy of A Fine Romance and can’t wait to read it when the weather turns. Am planning a Tea Party for a number of new friends I’ve made since moving to the mountains and they will sign my guest book {Girlfriends Celebration} that I keep using from one party after another. I LOVE that book of yours!
Thank you as always for your inspiring and encouraging words. I love reading your posts.
Love…the anticipation of your new book…And thank you for all the fun…
Just finished reading Willard and your Blog. Finished reading A Fine Romance a while back and look forward to your new book. I love your watercolor and have been thinking about trying my hand at trying. Also, have you given any thought of traveling to Ireland and doing a book? I thought it would be interesting and see how you would do it.
Gloria
O can’t wait to read the new book.
Susan,
You, Joe, Girl & Jack are many times the very BEST part of my day!!
Please know you are such a gift. XO Connie
Considering I live it the beautiful, broad, HOT in August, state of Texas, reading your blog and notes in Willard has made my morning. Absolutely love all of your “fairy tale” descriptions and ideas…most refreshing and so typical of what I have always enjoyed about your work. A huge BIG thank you for sharing your words, your talent, your life and yourself. ;0)
The Brownies are ready to take out of the oven…I must go. They are for my grandchildren that are leaving for college this a.m. Again..thank you..
Good Morning Susan – from Katama – just down the road from you. We are so lucky to live on this beautiful island and you have captured her essence so so perfectly! I’ve always wanted to tell you that Heart of The Home inspired me to paint so many years ago. So Thank You!
Very much love and appreciation to you and your beautiful imagination.
Thunderstorms this morning!
Susan, I love your artwork, your words and your positive outlook. You have been part of my home for many years. Don’t ever retire!
I’m trying not to!
Good Morning Susan…You are so luck to live in such a beautiful place. I’ve been there once. Love the new calendars. I have my new blotter and wall calendar. Love the black cat on Oct. Our black cat just died at 18 !
My very first Willard. I don’t even know what it stands for but I Loved it. You are definitely a kindred spirit! You make my Heart sing!
Thank you Laurie! Go HERE and scroll down a tiny bit to find out what WILLARD means!
Oh Susan! You started my day off right by reading Willard & your blog! I tell everyone about your “Fine Romance” book & show it to them. I took a similar trip 3 years ago- without the boat!- & long to do it again. This time to the southern coast of England- from Kent to Lands End- then to the Highlands of Scotland. Haven’t been to either. I sometimes think I could live there but I know I wouldn’t like the deary winters. But how I love their summers! I love coastal NC where I live, except the summer is too long & humid here. New England has better summers. And I’m going to get a chance to experience California again for the 1st time since I was a child- I won a sweepstakes! I enter every one that has any place I’d like to go & actually won one! So something fun to plan….Just a few days, but hey, I’m glad to be able to go- just north of San Diego. Now tell me the best time of year to visit for someone who doesn’t like it hot but not cold either. I know it’s probably perfect weather whenever I choose. What a treat!
What a marvelous Willard. Just what I needed. As always so inspiring and the Musica………….AH !!!!!!!
Can’t wait till my Fairy Tale Girl arrives.
Blessings for a wonderful day in your very special place. Hope that one day I will be able to visit Martha’s Vineyard.
Susan!
I was just thinking that it didn’t feel like summer without hearing from you…and then there was Willard in my in box! Whoo hoo! I am not on Facebook but always look forward to hearing what you are up to and what book purchases are in my future…ahem. Can’t wait for Fairy Tale Girl! Enjoy the last few weeks of summer, until the pesky vacationers depart and you and Joe have the Isle of Dreams back to yourselves.
Love your drawings…can’t wait to purchase the 2016 calendar!
Always excited to hear when the next calendar is coming out (not wishing my life away though). My husband made a Susan Branch calendar holder for me. It is beautiful oak and is made the perfect size to hold the wall calendar. Love reading your blog and Willards. Have some of the older ones – hard copies. So lovely. Thanks for the hours of reading and joy you have brought me, Susan Branch.
Love our handy guys!
I want to win Fun fun
THANKS!! Willard arrived on my birthday. Perfect timing.
Happy Birthday Sharon!
Reading Willard was a great way to start my Friday! But, oh dear, how can Colin Firth not be the greatest Mr. Darcy ever to exist?
LOL…these are the big questions!!!
Oh, my! Another lovely addition to an already-lovely colllection of snippets of your heart!! Thank you from the bottom of mine.
I lost my BFF sister, my husband, my father and mother and new BFF within the past 5 years. Susan and Joe and the kitties and Martha’s Vineyard and trips to England and watercolors and “A Fine Romance”make me want to dream again.
You certainly bring joy to so many. Thank you, Susan for sharing you talent and the joys of your life with the rest of the world. You spread joy and hope and love. You are a gift.
Much too much loss. Sending love to you Patricia. xoxo Thank you so much.
To read this blog AND Willard in the same day? Ahhhhhhh…what a gift to me on this day — my birthday!! Thank you so very kindly for the gifts you give all year, but today seems a bit more special. Yep, I bought Fairy Tale to help celebrate! xoxo ~Nan
I’m always happy when I see Willard in my email! Thank you for giving such an encouraging start to my day! I have been a fan for a long time. I have many of your scrapbooks and just looking at the covers (without even seeing what’s inside) makes me smile. Your stickers, on the inside pages, give more warmth and beauty to my photos. Thanks for your creativity!
As always, love your uplifting words & beautiful artwork. Thank-You!
Enjoyed reading everything this morning with my kitty on the last day of vacation. Love your books but especially the recipes. I’ve shared your sites and books with all my gal pals and coworkers. They love you too!!!
Looking forward to your new books, Susan. Thank you for sharing the fairy tale.
I can’t remember if I commented on Willard or here…anyway I appreciate your sunshine so much! You always lift my spirits and remind me of HOPE! Know that what you do is beautiful, needed and loved!
Thank you!
