NEWS FROM THE ROAD

News from the Road: Run get a cup of tea ~ because this is a long one! We’ll start here with road-trip MUSICA 🎶, and what I like to call “the aberration” or maybe the “miracle” because it can’t be true and I’m sure it was a typo that will be fixed soon, but while it lasts we must glory in the moment, because it’s the very first time for any of my books. LOOK at THIS!!!!⬇️NY Times Best SellerEven though it’s not really a travel book, but if the New York Times Book List said it was Number 10 in the category of books about ditch digging, I would take it! And I have you to thank for it. 💞 Word of mouth has always been the way my books have found new readers, and word of mouth, in this case, would be YOU. There are 100 reviews for Isle of Dreams on Amazon as of today, and 99 of them are 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️’s. Amazing! And all because of you! Look what a little Girltalk can do!can-we-talkOh, yes we can!oh happy daySo, THANK YOU!!!! (And you, too, @FarmGirlGeorgie for making the cute NY Times Best Seller thing💝)  love thee like pudding

Right now, I am writing you from my home state of sunny California. Yup, we made it all the way across, from sea to shining sea.  Tonight is our 13th book signing so far, with more Girltalk at Rakestraw Books, here in Danville. We still have ten more signings to go before we get back to Martha’s Vineyard, Jack, Girl Kitty, and Home Sweet Home. (Check HERE and see if we’re coming to a store near you.)  But first, today, I’m having lunch with California girlfriends!happy!

IMG_9146

I thought I’d show you a bit of our trip ‘cross country . . . There are so many wide open spaces, you would be shocked unless you were one of the ten people that actually lived in one of them!

IMG_8898

Because it’s been gorgeous . . . amazing skies . . . we could see weather coming from forever away  . . .

IMG_8556

No snow though, we seem to be past that now . . .

IMG_9116

But a few wicked downpours . . .

photo-127

Then up and over the top of the world . . . (I met a girl working in a gas station in a tiny town in Wyoming, at around 6,000 feet altitude, where the wind rocked our car all the way down the road, and asked her how much snow they got up there, and she said, “It’s hard to tell, the wind blows it all away.” Freezing frozen wind, so much that the MOUNTAINS of snow that MUST be coming down, gets blown away? Eeeek!)

IMG_9191

through bucolic farmlands . . .

IMG_8872

across the plains . . .

IMG_8870

And out to your basic nowhere . . . On our way to one bookstore after another, on our way to meet very gorgeous people.Hello Everyone

elusive poppy

Like this one.  I love her. I love her hands, her headband, her shirt, her shorts, her shoes and the expression on her face. And most of all, I love the stars in her eyes.sweetnessIMG_8905

And no matter what age, all our Girlfriends had those same wonderful star-filled faces . . . 💏

elusive poppy

I don’t think they would be here if they didn’t have a bit of fairy tale girl inside them too. We had such a good time together!

IMG_9071

We’d never been to the Tattered Cover Bookstore in Denver . . . it was so wonderful! Built inside an old theater, I can’t say enough nice things about this gorgeous place. With an amazing magazine section too! You can read its history Here! Go there if you can, they have big comfy chairs to sit in plus a coffee shop. You could live there!

IMG_9058

That’s Daniel in the yellow shirt. He’s the Events Coordinator, and made it all happen in the smoothest way possible!  We had some fairy tale boys come to the signing too, manning the cameras for their wives . . .

IMG_9321

And every signing we’ve been to has been a family affair . . .

IMG_9348

Moms and daughters, sisters, Aunts and nieces, best friends for life…See what I mean about the stars in the eyes . . .?

IMG_9346

I am grateful every day for the rewarding work I have been blessed with.💞

poppy

How could I not be . . . Three generations, grandma, daughter and my newest, just hatched, Girlfriends who don’t even know they are girlfriends yet, and best friends for life . . . twins!

elusive poppy

I always say I would rather be standing in line . . . there is so much laughter and happiness out there, I can hear them from where I’m signing, people meeting people . . .

IMG_8980

beautifulfaces

elusive poppy

These girls had a tea party in a restaurant before they came to the signing!

IMG_8959

I feel so honored, truly . . .

IMG_8386

This was at Main Street Books in St. Charles, in Missouri.  Poor Missourites, just don’t know how to have fun!

IMG_8496

And this darling girl is one of the owners who also manages the store, Emily Hall (she and her family own it, but no discernible relation to Joe).

IMG_8407

Joe took lots of great photos!

IMG_8414

The store was tiny . . .

IMG_8359

But it was such a nice spring day, no one minded being outside . . .

IMG_8366

And, sooner or later, I got to meet everyone . . .

rr04nIc_

And, as you can see, they treated me royally . . .

IMG_8510

Here’s picture of the Main Street Books staff with Joe . . . and right behind me are Twitter girlfriends ~ Cindy (@granny2626), and to her right is Alisa (@AlisaMS) who, together, single handedly, made this book signing happen by calling Emily until she could no longer take it!

IMG_8398

And while we were at Main Street Books, THIS came by to entertain us all . . . a fife and drum band! Just to give you an idea of how cute St. Charles, Missouri is! In fact, this is where the Lewis & Clark Expedition began their westward Ho!  All of Missouri (that we saw) was wonderful. Hermann MO

We drove the back roads, and made discoveries! Like that ⬆️ If you’re ever near there, try to visit the quaint historical town of Hermann, MO. Worth a trip just to see it . . . SO darling, practically all brick, lots of antique stores, and tiny little free-standing bed and breakfast cottages that ooze so much charm, you just WANT to move into one of them.

IMG_8317

We also went to Mark Twain’s House in Hannibal, MO, our second time there, which I will tell you more about someday soon, because he deserves a whole Blog post about him. He grew up in that little white house. And just around the corner, by the way, is the birthplace home of the Unsinkable Molly Brown. Hannibal is a double-whammy town, and filled with historic buildings.)

IMG_8320

Look how close Mark Twain’s house is to the Mississippi River . . . what a childhood that river must have provided for an adventurous, brilliant boy like that wonderful Sam Clemens!  Then it was off to Kansas City!

IMG_8312

With a little of this . . .

IMG_8297

And a little of that . . .

IMG_8187

And a lot of this, thrown in for good measure . . .

IMG_8005

Because we are the ramblin guys . . .

IMG_8774

Here we are at Rainy Day Books in Kansas City . . . these girls brought quilts they’d made from my fabric for me to sign! Are they not cute or what?

IMG_8708

It was another wonderful night . . .

IMG_8791

of meeting and greeting . . . and smiling for the camera . . .

IMG_8846

Jane (from Twitter @artistswriter) brought us this cake!

IMG_8836

A beautiful cake, with a fairy and little fairy dust and everything, that she made herself! We have the MOST creative Girlfriends!

IMG_8625

Vivien Jennings from Rainy Day Books set us up for local KC television, this was CBS. Do I like to go on TV? Oh no, I do not! I am way too normal for this!

IMG_8592

But I did it twice! This was NBC. I smiled and tried to keep all torture expressions off my face. Because A. It’s my job, and B. I sat in my studio for four years writing these books, the least I can do is try and tell people about them. I will be doing it again when we get to Memphis. Luckily that’s a long time from now.😜

IMG_8646

Then we went shopping because Vivien knew all the best places! This is a famous Kitchen store in Kansas City called Prydes . . . They have EVERYTHING!!! Need a dishtowel?

IMG_8634

This is Prydes, worth a trip all by itself!

7eaa7ab8-ccf1-4a48-b922-131cfce687cf

Us and Vivien and her partner Roger, wonderful people, with a very famous, very community oriented bookstore.

IMG_8821

After the book signing was over, I signed LOTS of books to leave at Rainy Day Books . . . “with love.” In fact, I’ve left signed books at every bookstore I’ve visited. If you need Christmas or Birthday presents, and want to support our wonderful Independent bookstores . . . call one of them, they’ll ship!with-love

IMG_9208

Over the Rocky Mountains into Salt Lake City we go! A little bit straight down . . . for several miles  . . . whimpering occurred but I held his hand and told him everything would be okay.👍

IMG_9336

And here we are, meeting more starry eyes at the King’s English Bookshop in Salt Lake City.  Joe took the best pictures! He visits with everyone in line while I’m signing books.  And everyone asks him about the incident with the teabag on his glasses . . . and we all still laugh!

IMG_9339

Our Girlfriends who come by themselves arrive as strangers but leave with new friends . . .

IMG_9354

So many beautiful smiles . . . I could post pictures like these for the rest of the day and still not show them all! If you were at the signings and don’t see your face here, it’s only because I had better get in the shower soon or I won’t make it to the next book signing!

IMG_9361

And more fairy tale boys . . . we actually had a lot of them, and they were great guys, every one of them. As you might expect!

IMG_9374

See what I mean? More starry eyes!

IMG_9363

Doesn’t the line look fun?

IMG_9385

I loved every moment of it.

IMG_9395

Here’s Rachel, Rob, and Paula . . . our host and hostesses for the evening at The King’s English Bookshop  . . . we are so happy to hear how good the independent bookstores are doing these days . . . seems people really don’t want them to go away!!! New ones are opening every day, in the smallest towns too. Seems people love real books to decorate their houses and smell while reading! We can be proud, they couldn’t do it without us, it’s a triumph of the people over the machine!yay!IMG_9382

Poor Rachel who works at the store,  no personality, and no way of relating to her customers . . . poor thing, and all this with a box of books under her arm. 👏

CjJIS06WYAE9xw1.jpg-large

And the store itself, how perfect is this for hosting fairy tale girls??? It’s a cottage-shop in a tree-lined neighborhood (previously owned, I think, by Goldilocks and the Three Bears).

poppy

Here’s Rob introducing me . . . the talk was held in the art gallery next to the bookshop. You guys ask the best questions!!! I can’t begin to tell you how wonderful these things are. It’s more like a conversation than a talk. I start out scared, but within about 60 seconds, I’m talking to you, you’re talking to me, and I’m just loving it.

So guess who I get to see tomorrow????🎉

🎵 MAS MUSICA! 🎵

IMG_0675

Yes, we’ll be at my Studio near San Luis Obispo . . . and (don’t be jealous) we’ll get to SLEEP with our studio kitty, freckle-face Sammy . . .
IMG_0684

. . . and our other Studio Kitty, sweetest Sasha!!!

May 09 at Lopez Drive 037

This is our Studio, where the Kitties live, and where Kellee and Sheri and Alfredo work . . .

IMG_1070

We designed the garden for this place right after we got back from our first trip to England in 2004 and were SO INSPIRED by what we had seen . . . the house is in an ancient riverbed so there is good dirt, and it’s five miles from the Pacific Ocean, so there is moisture, and there is a year-round flowing stream at the back of the property, so miracle of miracles, in California especially, there is water . . .

July 08 Vineyard 1677

And believe it or not, that little building behind the garden is where we ship everything from ~ your books, the Emma mugs, dream charms, everything! We’re a little company, but we are happy.

Sheri and Kellee

This is Sheri and Kellee just after I got my kitty, Jack!  BTW, I couldn’t do it without these girls!

Jack loves the fire

Here’s Jack. I think you can see why they felt they needed mustaches . . . they sent us mustaches too.

IMG_0666

This is inside the house/studio . . . That’s Kellee’s desk in the left corner, usually her dog is asleep under it, and Alfredo’s is on the right, and the kitchen is on the other side of those barstool chairs . . .   Sheri is down the stairs that go off to the left. It’s a mess, because Joe and I are there at the time, and we always bring too much stuff with us!

IMG_0178

Soon we’ll be having dinner at our favorite restaurant enjoying one of our favorite views in the world . . .

IMG_0119

As you can see by these UN touched photos!!!!

IMG_0158Mine all mine. For the price of a seafood salad and a glass of wine.

IMG_0594

GirlfriendsforeverartThat’s where I’ll be, with my BFF Diana . . . 💞 who hasn’t sprawled yet in this photo but will soon! See the painting behind my head?  I took my one and only oil-painting class when I was out there and painted that picture of the garden . . .

IMG_3231

Here it is in my studio on Martha’s Vineyard when I need to remember how nice the weather is in California!

Now I’ll leave you with two things . . .

CiYpvZNVEAAo2e1

First, this is maybe the sweetest kitty plus reading photo I’ve ever seen.  Look at that cat’s eyes! Is he in heaven, or what?  Thank you to Twitter girlfriend Heather for sending this darling thing . . . (@heatherbyhand)

and this . . .

IMG_9401

A note we found under our windshield.  SO sweet. Thank you Texie! We’ll be back! ❌⭕️ And I’ll be back here too . . . for a new installment in the never-ending story. Thank you for sticking with me! Love you all, wishing you a very loverly Memorial Day Weekend from the two road warriors! Hope to see you out and about! Memorial-Day-traditionpink-flowers

I enjoyed reading it cover to cover, and can’t wait for a book featuring you next adventure 🌞 My daughter and I attended the 2015 book your in Naperville, IL. Not only did we meet you, but we were able to visit Joe and your touring vehicle 😆

  16. Becky Compton says:

Your post made me smile ever so big! Thanks for the happiness in all those sparkling eyes that you shared. So glad your trip has been a success. Without adding gloom, I have recently joined the Pink Lady crowd if you know what I mean. Today was a very hard day for me which annoyed my fighting spirit. But your post just made me glad as Pollyanna might say. To see all those “girlfriends” made me realize how alone I know I am not! Thanks Susan for sharing your joy! Love, Becky in OK

  17. Cindy K says:

Yes! That sweet little girl is just too cute!
I’m here in the Minneapolis area, and missed out on the tour, but it is such a joy to see the photos and all the lucky Girlfriends who got to see you!
That last photo of a girlfriend reading your book with her kitty cuddled up to her is awesome! How can you not say, “awwwww”!
Love ya Susan! Keep having fun on your tour!

  18. Rosemary Monk--Near Boston says:

Dear Susan, It’s Sat. night, I’ve finished a long, hot day of more mad preparations for my daughter’s prom and high school graduation next week (our fourth and last). So I treated myself to a bowl of peppermint bark ice cream and read your wonderful blog. So glad to hear from you, know you are safe on the road, having lovely adventures (and taking pictures too!), making new friends and so many readers happy. I hope your next book signing tour (and I know there’ll be another one, your unique and beautiful books–all of them–will always be in demand) will include our town’s wonderful independent bookstore, “Book Ends,” in Winchester, MA. I’m willing to wait; and if you make it, I’ll be there with bells on. I especially loved the Memorial Day March to the Sea you described at the end of your note. Growing up, I marched with my school band every Memorial Day. This weekend, hubby Frank and I will drive to Fort Devans, MA, formerly of Army Base fame, and plant flowers at my parents’ graves, as I do each year to honor my father’s service to his country, and in memory of my mother. And I’ll tell my Mom all about you while I prune and plant; I know she’ll just love you. Go with God, stay safe, have a fabulous rest of your trip, and I’ll be waiting breathlessly for your next notes!

  19. Nancy B. says:

Dear Susan, How fun to see all the happy faces in your pictures! I wish I was in one, but sadly your visit to Danville was already full when I tried to make a reservation 🙁 When Friday night rolled around I was thinking of you and all the lucky girlfriends that were getting to meet you. I told my hubby I could go and hang out in the parking lot and see the van and maybe, with luck, get a glimpse of you and Joe. He just looked at me. I decided that may be on the verge of stalking 🙂 and decided to stay home. I felt so sad. It was fun to see pictures of the lucky ones with “stars” in their eyes .. yes they really do look like that! On this weekend eve of Memorial Day I am thankful for the dose of true Americana you share. I dream along reading your posts and seeing your photos and drift off to a happy magical time for a moment. Thank you for that! Know what I would love? I would love you to do a book of your home and garden and collections. All the stuff you post only in a real book! I love picture books like that, dreamy pictures of all things lovely and creative. That is my wish .. now please get to it 🙂 All the best for the rest of your journey here in CA and on your way back home.

  20. salve says:

Beautiful pictures and thanks for taking us with you and Joe – enjoying your stories and seeing the Beautiful People and the Beautiful America! Special Prayers for all our service people! Enjoy the rest of your trip!

  21. PaulaJ says:

Congratulations, Susan, on your book rating! I am so thankful that Isle of Dreams is being appropriately appreciated! I think it will move up to #1 before you know it! It was such a satisfying book. You answered all of my questions as if you had read my mind. Your way of writing is so relatable to my life, and judging from its popularity, to many, many people’s way of life! You express your thoughts and emotions in a way that grabs the heart and gives understanding, even though one might not have had the exact same experience. Now you know for sure how good writers write~~from the heart!

Thank you for this delightful (as always) post. Every person at the signings seems to be having a BLAST: smiles and joy abound! Thank you, Joe, for the great pictures.

Thank you for including the links to the book stores and towns along the way, as well as photos of the skies and the beautiful scenery. The tidbits about famous people and who did what, when are a plus, as well.

    Hugs and love,
    Paula

  22. Peggy says:

NY Times best seller list Susan -high fives all around!!! You also rate 4.84 out of 5 on the GoodReads website. Bring on the parade, fire works and marching band.
We need a big ol party.

So happy you and Joe made your book tour and are happily in your other home in sunny CA.

I ran away to a cabin in the woods after grad school many moons ago, No elec. no runnng water, brought my own stove and woodpile!! I called it “head stop” -where you learn all the practical things. Chop wood, haul water, catch and smoke fish, change flat tire , dance at the old school house on Sat. night. It changed my life forever too. (love electric lights ) Lake Superior will always be my heart home. My husband (gone now)and I were married on Madeline Island. I guess that makes me an Island girl too. Sending much love from Peggy in Madison

  23. Carol Lichwala says:

Hi Susan, I love looking at all the photos that Joe is taking at your book signings. It’s so amazing how much fun we have in those lines….I have been in a few myself. Looks like you and Joe will need a well deserved vacation when you get back home.
I have my tickets ready for the Beatrix Potter birthday party on July 28th.
Thanks so much for showing all those wonderful photos, just shows you how much you are loved and respected across this beautiful country.
Safe travels to you and Joe. See you in Brewster.

  24. Pat W. says:

Thanks Susan for such a wonderful blog. What a devine adventure for both of you. Enoy your sunny California.

  25. Jeanette Fallon says:

Enjoyed reading about your travels. I wish you could stop for a visit in Michigan. I would invite my Mom (from Luton, England) and we would have a cuppa and a chatter.

  26. Peggy Cooper says:

Oh Happy Day! indeed. Susan, I wanted so much to see you at the Tattered Cover in Denver, but it just wasn’t meant to be. My husband Bob (my Joe because he’s such a good guy like yours) had heart surgery on May 1, and we live in Pueblo which is two hours from Denver, so I just couldn’t leave him yet. Before I say anything else, I’ll tell you he’s doing great, and the hard part now is keeping him from doing too much in the garden this time of year. My bff Jan had written to me about going to your signing and going to tea and staying with her before this emergency surgery, but it just wasn’t meant to be. Talk about word of mouth, I introduced Jan to you and your books years ago, so of course she thought of me first. So I guess I just wanted to tell you I’m so glad Tattered Cover had a good turnout for you. It always has been a special place in Denver. Maybe I’ll get to meet you someday, but if not, we’ll still be “girlfriends” on your blog. BTW, Congrats on the New York Times review!!!

    • sbranch says:

I’m so happy to hear Bob is doing well!!! Now is time for him to just smell the flowers, but not dig them! Yes, word of mouth, to you to Jan, and then to so many others, because Tattered Cover was a WONDERFUL event. I’m sorry not to meet you, but we do hope to come back! xoxo Thank you Peggy, it was lovely to hear from you.

  27. Melissa R -UT says:

It was so great to meet you and Joe and have you right before our eyes here in Utah! Still pinching myself to believe that it really happened! It was a great girlfriend gathering and my daughters enjoyed it along with me! Thanks for putting us on your itinerary and so happy to have your newest book to savor! Safe travels and thanks for the news from the road- much love!!!

  28. Sharon in Fresno says:

My husband and I are here in Morro Bay. Drove all the way from Fresno today and we get to see you tomorrow at the book signing. I am so excited. We are loving this cool weather because it’s HOT, HOT, HOT in Fresno. Glad you made it safely across the country. See you tomorrow.

    • sbranch says:

I think it’s going to be a beautiful day!!!!! See you soon Sharon!

And to everyone who has left a comment, you know I love to read them . . . right now there are 240 comments waiting to be “moderated,” but I have to speak in Morro Bay today at 1 pm. It’s 9am now, I need to ride my bike and iron and get ready and get over to Diana’s house for a pre-Morro-Bay lunch, so I have to go now . . . and I will read and “approve” asap, and thank you for your patience!!!!! Byeeeeee. love and adore you all!

      • Evie Tong says:

You are the SWEETEST … even on your very busy tight schedule you make time for us Girlfriends on your Blog…
enjoy your Diana moments to the max!!! I am so glad you’re in CA even though I can’t be at my favorite part of the state…
        xoxox Evie in San Diego

  29. Kathy Hughes says:

Susan, congratulations on making it onto the NY Times Best Sellers List! The other two in the trilogy deserve to be on there, too. Of course, I have loved all of your books. So glad you and Joe are having a good time and much success at the signings. Just have to comment on the cute vintage-looking blue shoes you are wearing in one of the pictures. Sooo cute! My sister and I are looking forward to meeting you in NC in June! Safe travels!

    • sbranch says:

I gave the link for the shoes on Twitter, people were asking, and I have to say, they are VERY comfy! If you want them, look HERE . . . And thank you Kathy! See you in NC!

  30. Beth T. says:

Oh, Susan. Sometimes when I read these missives, I want to give you a big hug and then burst into tears–happy tears, fond tears, sentimental tears over something so tender as your Decoration Day story. Tonight I am reading your post with a puppy dozing in my lap, so in your absence I think I’ll give her a big hug and leave it at that. Thank you for sharing the happiness of your road trip with those of us who weren’t able to be a part of it.

  31. Judith says:

I felt like I was right there in line with the others! Thanks for sharing!

  32. Janette J. says:

Congratulations on your NY Times Bestseller! Thank you for coming to Salt Lake. It was so lovely to see you and hear you talk. Regret I didn’t make it thru the book signing due to excessive bout of shyness, though😁. CA looks wonderful, as usual (my heart magnet). Enjoy the sun, fun and great food! Taking Isle of Dreams everywhere with me now…inspiring this (alarmingly) late bloomer. Be well, my friend!

    • sbranch says:

Ohhh, shyness, I so understand. I have it too sometimes. I’m just glad you were there Janette, thank you for coming. xoxo

  33. Wow, what a journey! I’m exhausted already and I cannot imagine how exhausted you must feel at the end of it all, but a good exhausted and so worth it I know. I made the book last as long as I could, but I finally finished it. Boo Hoo! I did not want it to end. AT ALL. But alas, it did. I am now reading “A Fine Romance” again for the umpteenth time. Your books NEVER get old. Never. God bless you Susan Branch. I am really, really, really hoping that I will be able to make it to your Book Signing/etc. when you are back in the UK in the autumn. It is on my bucket list and I have everything crossed because that’s what you do when you want wishes to come true. Enjoy your stay in California! xo

    • sbranch says:

There are some books I can read over and over because there are certain feelings/words evoked in them that I would like to take a bath in or wrap myself in for a nap! I always felt I wasn’t only writing my own life! Dreams come true Marie, I hope you can make it!!!!

  34. Nor Azlina Lop says:

Hi Susan, I simply love the views and the photos in this post. I am now reading ‘Isle of Dreams’ and is at page 67 and is loving every bit from the first page.I am going rather slow with the pages because I don’t want it to end …I didn’t expect a recipe though on page 66 but that was a delightful surprise.
Looking forward to reading more of your book-tour from your wonderful blog. Stay safe and stay healthy. Take care…
    Best wishes and warmest thoughts
    Nor from Kuala Lumpur.

    • sbranch says:

On page 67 in Kuala Lumpur! Never in my life would I have imagined a book of mine would be read so far away! Thank you Nor, so very nice to hear from you!

  35. Stephanie C. says:

Wonderful, just wonderful!!! I couldn’t be more happy for you, Susan. You deserve to bask in the glow of all you have accomplished. I just love all that you do. Have a safe trip back to the east coast.

    Stephanie

    • sbranch says:

This two month road trip is the perfect juxtaposition to the 4 years sitting-and-writing I finally finished! I get to start life over when we get home! Thank you Stephanie!

  36. Judy from Maine says:

I’ve almost finished reading Isle of Dreams and I have to say I am sad…I don’t want the book to end, in fact I’m stalling a little bit in my reading to make it last. I just LOVE this book, thank you so much for sharing so much of your life. You are such a stong women and an inspiration for all of us. Safe journeys.

  37. Liz W says:

What fun- I feel like I was on the trip with you. Love the studio and garden space in CA!

  38. Jackie P says:

Your blog made me laugh: Joe and the tea-bag incident. And cry: the note under your windshield — “Come Back” — so heartfelt! Your excursions just keep getting better and better! Feel fortunate to be one of the Girlfriends! Kindred spirits are worldwide. Who knew? Safe journeys my friend.

  39. Margie Orr says:

After my husband read Isle of Dreams, he is reading The Fairytale Girl at night to me….just what we need after a long day. He reads the books to me even though I have read them before, and we both laugh in the same places. He asked me to ask you where the Orr part of your family comes from? He has a second cousin in California and relatives in Canada. I correspond with one of his Canada relatives where his Scotland relatives landed long ago. Thanks. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

    • sbranch says:

Orr is my Grandma’s maiden name, and they were from Iowa. Foster was HER mother’s maiden name and that’s where most of the family history springs from. I’m not sure of more about the Orr’s. But my grandma told me once that the name Orr is rare and all Orrs are related! (I have no idea where she got that, but I’ve always imagined it was true.) I love imagining your husband reading to you . . . how wonderfully soothing at bedtime!!!

  40. Patsy in Nixa, MO says:

Congratulations on the NY Times list and Happy Travels. Love sharing your trip.

  43. Arlene@Nanaland says:

Susan, please come south so we can meet you!! I have put off purchasing your book hoping you might swing down this way! If not, I will order one from your site. Your book tours look like such fun! And we visited Mark Twains home several years ago. It is a charming town and I came away with a love for Maid Right sandwiches and Ayers Pottery, which is located in Hannibal. In fact I continue to order pieces from Ayers!! Loved traveling along with you and Joe via armchair.

    • sbranch says:

Not sure where the “Land of Nana” is, but we’re coming to Texas, Tennessee, and Georgia . . . Hope one of those is close enough for you!

  44. Sara says:

Oh my, Susan, how you do fill my heart with wonder and my face with smiles! You are the best gift I’ve unwrapped this morning! I’m off to church in a bit (you prepared my heart, you know!) where I will fellowship with people I love and especially thank Him for the fairy-tale girl and her willingness to share the journey of her life with us girlfriends. Our little log church sits on a bluff above beautiful Dewart Lake, where on its shores, I first went to Quaker Haven Church Camp 60 years ago. I am enchanted by the Memorial Day tradition of the children of MV and will share it with my good friend Amy, the camp director’s wife, in hopes we can make it part of our Memorial Day tradition at Quaker Haven.

Blessings on you and Joe, this blue-sky morning! Xxx

    Sara

    • sbranch says:

That was beautiful Sara, I have tears in my eyes because of the picture you painted, just lovely. xoxo

  45. Kim Carter says:

Susan Branch, I just absolutely adore you! I feel such joy when I read your posts! Also last Friday I had a Birthday Picnic in a little park for my two dear friends who have May birthdays a week apart. We have been friends since first grade (55 years ago!). I gifted one with The Fairy Tale Girl and the other with Martha’s Vineyard. They were THRILLED! I had given them A Fine Romance two years ago and they loved it. They have both called me to say they are enjoying their new books just as much. Thank you for the special touch you bring to everything you do!

    • sbranch says:

A Birthday Party in a park for kindred spirits, who could ask for anything more! Thank YOU Kim, for “including” me! xoxo

    • Donna C says:

A birthday picnic in a park….how sweet. I have tears in my eyes thinking about it and your long friendships. Reading the comments from my/our invisible girlfriends brings tears and joy to me. Have a lovely day.

  46. Hi Susan, this post was a most welcome piece to read! I have been reading Martha’s Vinyard, Isle of Dreams for the past 2 weeks…savoring every page. I don’t want it to end, so I guess I’ll go back and read the series again! Why not? Every book is so worth reading over many times.
Your resourcefulness and determination is so inspiring for me! I just need to discover what to do with my passion for painting and visual incentives. You are putting the stars in all of our eyes! ** <3 **

    • sbranch says:

We need each other to help us remember that there is SO MUCH good in this world! And miracles can happen, and that we can make homes of our own imagination really happen. I’m so happy you’re enjoying it Janet!

  47. Your book signing is truly a family affair! My Mom is coming up from FL to stay with me in NC and wouldn’t miss coming with me to Malaprops for the world. Counting the days 🙂 xoxo <3

    • sbranch says:

I know you know happy I am to hear that Jacqui! I love these Family Affair signings . . . just so wonderful!

  48. Sarah says:

I am reading Isle of Dreams right now, and so is my mom because I gave it to her for Mother’s Day–we are huge fans, and have been for decades, and now my 10 year old daughter is your fan, too! Everybody in my family knows your work, even my boys, because your calendars and cookbooks are staples in our house! Your book signings look so happy, and that first little girl is PRECIOUS. 🙂 Happy Road Trip, Susan!!

  49. Hi Susan: CONGRATULATIONS on making the New York Times!!!! All your hard work that comes from your Heart has finally gotten world wide news and I can almost hear all the hands clapping for you. Enjoyed seeing the pictures of the Book Tour and the roads that took you to each store. If I don’t have a book at hand, I feel like something is missing. Hope you get lots of Kitty Kisses when you get home and start relaxing with a cup of your favorite cup of tea. Thanks Susan for all that you are.

    • sbranch says:

Well, I still think we’re the only ones that know, but since we’re the kindred spirits, that’s okay with me! I’m getting kitty kisses right this very minute! We’re staying at the Studio on California and the best benefit of all are the two kitties who live here. Thank you Bev! xoxo

  50. Melissa Nyman says:

You were in Wyoming and I missed it! 🙁
Enjoyed all the pictures and glad you made it to California!
Thank you for sharing everything you do 🙂

    • sbranch says:

We only drove through Melissa . . . the closest signing was Denver and then Salt Lake City . . . so you really didn’t miss anything! Thank YOU for saying hello!

  51. Shari Doty says:

Super glad the weather cooperated while you were here. (In SLO County) It has been cloudy and windy prior to your visit- along the coast anyway. San Luis still gets daily sun. It’s nice to come home for a visit, isn’t it? Miss having you local, but at least we can keep up via your blog and newsletter.

  52. Melissa (from eastern PA: formerly of the Midwest) says:

I’m almost finished with “Isle of Dreams”. A birthday present from my husband on May 22nd (he received the book in the mail from pre-order on April 8th and kept it a surprise)! It got me thinking of our wonderful husbands. Would your Joe care to write a sentence or two on the blog and share what he thinks/likes about this stage where you two are?
Again, thank you so much for your artwork, books, thoughts, pictures, Blog, etc.

    • sbranch says:

I would love that, but Joe is still barely tolerating most of the computer stuff I do! He is not a machine man! But maybe someday. He is really enjoying meeting everyone out here on our book tour. Thank you so much Melissa!

  53. Warm Quilts says:

Congratulations on making it to the Top 10, Susan!Your posts, photos, and books are all treasures. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. You are quite an inspiration. Welcome home!

  54. Suzanne R. says:

The NYT rank is so well-deserved, congrats!! It brings joy to see you personally connecting with your devoted fans–not as much joy as reading your books, but almost. 😉 This California girl absolutely loves everything you put to paper. I live in the Pacific NW now and sorry that you aren’t coming to the end of the Lewis & Clark trail. Maybe next time? Thanks for sharing your stories; I hope you will keep writing them. xo

  55. Sonya Hewes says:

  56. Loretta says:

Hi, Susan….so nice to read about your trip across country!! And ending up in sunny California! Yes, it has been great weather here…..so glad you were able to get to the bay area in Danville. A very quaint town. So now you are back in your town along the coast. I love it there too….Enjoy your time spent with friends and your darling kitties too! Can’t wait for the trip back home……….take care….Happy Holiday!!! Loretta/Santa Nella, Ca.

    • sbranch says:

Thank you Loretta . . . we’re all in beach fog today, but that’s okay, nice and cool and good for napping!

  57. Kathy Phenix says:

I’m so jealous! All of those girlfriends waiting in line to meet you and meeting new friends while they wait. I want to be there. Next winter when you are freezing in MV please consider coming to sunny Florida and we will share our warmth with you. Congratulations on the NYTimes award. It’s a great book and a wonderful love story–as are the other two in the triolgy.
I’m already gearing up for your next tour of fabulous England. Safe travels.

    • sbranch says:

We might do that. . . I’m longing to be HOME for a while, but I know we’ll need a road trip after a while and Florida might be just the spot next winter! xoxo

  58. Carol from CT says:

    Dear Susan,

Miles and miles and miles of smiles,
    Magical bookstores and girlfriends galore
With books to be signed in so many piles,
Miles to go and so much more in store.

    Pictures and pictures and pictures for us;
    Love all around you that follows along;
We’re loving the blog and all of the fuss,
Inside of our hearts is where you belong.

Stars and stars and stars go to you!
The NEW YORK TIMES! Hurray .com!
Sit back and relax, sip a teacup of brew
As you ramble along with such calm and aplomb.

Kisses and kisses and kisses from cats
While in the warehouse on Pacific shore.
“No longer terrors to mice and to rats”; (T.S. Eliot)
They prefer your lap so much more than the floor!

    Post-its and pens and post-its and pens;
Glasses riding on the edge of your nose
For so many loving and wonderful friends
Who line up to complement books of your prose.

    A wonderful, funderful time of your lives;
    Together you journey, adventure unfolds!
And kudos to Joe for the miles that he drives
While his caring and piloting-planning enfolds.

XO and XO and ‘Girlfriends Forever’
While wandering far from the ‘Heart of the Home’.
    A movie in Hollywood, never say never;
All part of the wonderful SB syndrome.

    Love, Carol … tra la

    • sbranch says:

You are so good at this Carol!!! How long have you been doing it? Thank you!!

      • Carol from CT says:

Words and words and words and words
Just love to be put out to cook!
I’m writing a very special text
        For a wonderful children’s book!

The words go into a ‘Busy Bag’
        That contains a kind of request;
Pictures are treasures we surely know
That can leave a reader quite blessed.

Thanks so much for the compliment Sweet Sue!
I just put out the words to cook with a tra la la !

  59. Barbara Irvine (Connecticut) says:

Susan, congratulations on achieving a spot in the Top Ten NY Times Best Sellers list !! So well deserved (you know we all loved the book and told everyone we know about it), and it truly is a wonderful story. I’m so glad you and Joe arrived in California safely, and I love all the photos of the girlfriends at the book signings. When you get a minute (heh!), please tell us what you purchased at the antique stores. I scored a Beatrix Potter Appley Dapply figurine for $10 at a flea market this morning, and she’s fitting in nicely with my other Beatrix Potter people. Looking forward to your next blog entry …

    • sbranch says:

I found a new/old quilt!!! Threw myself on it, “Mine.” And a darling bowl. And a couple of linen things. So far. Nice score on BP, I see something like that as a pure miracle. So rare these days. Good for you! And Thank you Barbara!

  60. I was about to work on revisions for my own book, and thought “I could really go for a blog post from Susan Branch. I have a feeling there’s going to be one in my inbox.” And sure enough there was! Always brings cheer and inspiration to my heart. My heart even gave an extra thump when it saw the picture of the dish towels — so lovely! So thankful, once again, for a happy distraction in my day.

    • sbranch says:

My heart did that thump with the dishtowels too, how could it NOT! 😃 Nice to hear from you Stephanie!

  61. Sheryl Baker says:

How DO you do it? Whether you’re at home or crossing an ocean or crossing the plains, you write in such a way that I really do feel like I’m there, too, and I am so happy. It sounds like you’re having so much fun. 😊

The only part of this blog posting that caused me anguish 😳 was reading you’d visited Hannibal again. I volunteer at the Mark Twain Museum Gallery gift shop one afternoon each week. I suppose it’s a good thing I didn’t see you, as I would likely have succombed to a case of the vapors and fainted dead away behind the counter. That’s what women used to do when surprised or overwhelmed, right? So glad you and Joe dropped by again!

Thank you for another fun post. I always so enjoy the updates and absolutely LOVED these last three books. You belong on the Bestseller list!!!

    • sbranch says:

The gift shop in Hannibal? We came so late in the day, we didn’t even try to go in . . . I bet it was closed. We just ran around outside and took pictures. It would have been fun to run into you there! Thank you dear Sheryl, I hope we meet next time, because I have no doubt there will be a next time!

      • Carol from CT says:

        Hi Sheryl
I’m also a volunteer but at the Mark Twain House and Museum in Hartford, CT. How great to meet another Twainiac. I was lucky enough to visit Hannibal some time ago. A little birdie (that tweets when you open the website) told me that SueB is also a Twainiac. For any CT girlfriends there is a wonderful special exhibit on Twain’s children in Hartford. On Wed. June 8 at 5:00pm K. Patrick Ober who wrote, ‘Any Mummery Will Cure’, will be speaking on The Medical History of Susy, Clara, and Jean Clemens. There will be food.

  62. Karen Lotito says:

Congratulations!!! A Happy Memorial Day weekend to you and Joe! I hope you get to Long Island for a book signing one of these days. And we hope to get back to Martha’s Vineyard as I definitely want to go to the Black Dog Inn – yes, we have a black dog. Be well & Be happy and safe travels. Love, Karen

  63. June Emmert says:

Susan you bring an old fashioned freshness and whimsical ness to life that I thought had
vanished. Even in my older age I can and do look at life through your eyes and mine.
I love music, words, flowers, and can hardly wait for another days of blessings
“Dropping their blossoms all around me.” Your laughter and happiness is in your voice
and music in your writing. Many people marvel at you and many love being in your
presence. Keep on being an inspiration to so many.

    Best,
    June E.

  64. Kit says:

So good to hear how you and Joe are doing. You are so busy and I love the fact that you caught us up. 🙂 I have a blog friend and she got to see you in Denver! She was so thrilled. You have a great trip! 🙂 Kit

  65. Terry says:

    Susan,

Congratulations! All of your books should be on the NY Times Best Seller List! I loved, loved, loved Isle of Dreams!!!!!!!! To me it was a survival guide. Your book relieved me of my greatest fear – loneliness. After reading your book my fear was gone — forever. Thank You! I look forward to seeing you in NJ in June. I more than look forward to it, I am counting the days – 32!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Love,
    Terry

    • sbranch says:

I bet it was you Terry that put the 100th comment on Amazon about Isle of Dreams? I think I recognize your writing! Thank you SO much, that was so nice of you! Won’t be long and we’ll be visiting in person! XOXO

  66. Phillipa says:

Soooo wish I was able to see you to Susan….but am here in England instead. Love the photos and drawings you do. I have quite a few of your books. I look forward to reading about your journeyings.

    Phillipa x

    • sbranch says:

I can’t WAIT to be “here in England.” You are a lucky girl and I forgive you for not being at one of the signings!!!

  67. Fabienne says:

I will be in Montecito next Saturday with my BFFOSB Elda! We cannot wait to see you once again….last time was in San Luis Obispo. We plan to drive up earlier in the day, coffee and nosh at Pierre La Fonds deli across from bookstore and the old pharmacy on the corner is a must for window shopping. But we will definitely get in line early to meet you and see Joe again as well. Montecito is such a treasure of a little town, so much to see and everything is beautiful. See you Saturday! Do you want a little snack….what can we bring you?

    • sbranch says:

LOL, aren’t you sweet! I couldn’t ask for more than just to see your faces in Montecito! So glad to hear you’ll be there!

  68. Pat S. in Lebanon, PA says:

Congratulations on a very successful road trip/book signing adventure!

It was exciting to learn that you enjoyed your stop in Hermann, MO. I lived
there as a child more than 60 years ago when the sidewalks were made of wood.
A return visit is long overdue….you have encouraged me to do that.

  70. Margaret says:

Dark and rainy today in Oklahoma. Then I checked your website and suddenly the sun came out and I was laughing and smiling and loving the beautiful pictures of all the wonderful readers!! Thanks again for your blog!

  71. Suzanne says:

    I was that starry-eyed girl,
back in 2011 when you signed
    my “Girlfriends” book at the
    Creative Connection in Minnesota.
Someday I’ll send you a letter
    with more details about how
special that meeting was to me,
    and why…..

    Keep inspiring, keep enjoying,
and most of all, keep being YOU.
The world needs all of the Susan
    Branch magic it can get!

    xo Suzanne

  72. Mary McCatherine says:

For so many years I have LOVED your art work, your cook books, your way of thinking. I bought your Fairy Tale Girl book and read it in a couple of nights and was ready for more. Thank goodness I had ordered Martha’s Vineyard, Isle of Dreams and it was delivered VERY quickly so that I was able to move from one part of your story to the next. I am right now on page 252 and felt that I must stop and say, THANK YOU! Really, a heartfelt thank you! I love your books and cannot wait to read A Fine Romance. The first book I ever bought of yours is still one of my favorites…The Baby Book. I bought it in 1993 for my “baby” and I love it! Happy traveling. I hope that someday our paths will cross. I did visit Martha’s Vineyard two years ago and was hoping I would “run into” you somewhere in my travels…happy dreaming for me. Thank you for 23 years of Willards, cookbooks, girlfriend books, scrapbooks and for just being you! Love, Mary

  73. Margaret says:

Congratulations on the success of your books! I read your blog all the time and enjoy all of it, especially the gorgeous pictures. Hermann, MO is my hometown, and as soon as I saw the picture I knew you had visited there. I am so glad you visited and appreciated it.

  74. MarySue Knight says:

Be still my heart! The children’s annual Memorial Day march to the sea is one of the most endearing things I’ve read. Oh that such a tradition could be everywhere. So happy you shared that. I will make it a part of my families Memorial Day festivities, thank you. Also, I traveled to SLC last March and went to The Kings English bookstore with my 9 year old granddaughter Penelope. It’s sooooo cute! Thanks for all the J O Y your share.

    • sbranch says:

The thing I like most about the Children’s March, it’s tiny and real. It’s not advertised, so crowds don’t show up to watch. You just have to be in the right place at the right time to see it. I never knew it happened until we moved to the street they actually marched on. Neighbors just stepped out their doors to cheer them on, so very sweet. Nice to hear from you MarySue. xo

  75. Candy says:

    Hi, Susan….
You cast the most lovely magical spell! Your books are an absolute joy, and I’m so happy you are having such a wonderful life! Love, Candy 😄

  76. Mare Hare says:

Bought the book this week and reserved quiet time to read it by the river among the geese and gosling. I could not put it down. It just infused my spirit. I had visited MV 30 years ago with my ex-husband but didn’t see it thru your eyes (must have been the husband LOL) You took me there with you. Now I shall visit again. THANK YOU for sharing your talent

  77. Kathleen Stahulak says:

Hi Susan, I met you at the tea/luncheon in Wilmette, IL and it was a great day for me. I thank you very much. I have the Susan Branch life story book and I am trying to write my life story for my granddaughter. You encouraged me to just write it and you are so right! She won’t care if my printing is perfect or not. Thank you for a fun afternoon and taking time to sign all our books! I LOVE the love you spread everywhere you go….we sure need it lately. So, thanks! And thanks to Joe too, he is precious!

    • sbranch says:

No, she will LOVE your real handwriting. She’ll see your heart in it. That’s exactly what you want. Good for you, Kathleen, you’re creating a family treasure. Wilmette was a wonderful day, thank you for helping to make it so nice for us.

  78. Donna Swisher says:

Loved all your pictures and comments. Wish I had been able to see you in Cincinnati. My nephew in law works at The Tattered Cover in Denver. he will be moving to KY next week though. Some great ideas for visiting when we visit my son and daughter in law who just moved to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri from Kansas. It seems I love everything you love so it is just a joy to read your blogs!

  79. Rae Ann R. says:

I’m with Arlene@Nanaland…please come north to Michigan…I am lucky to have two friends have the pleasure of meeting you~daughter Sarah at Joseph Beth in Cincinatti and my Willard friend Debbie at Tattered Cover in Denver…they both left glowing from your and Joe’s magic auras…so glad you’re in your old stomping grounds…enjoy every minute…

    • sbranch says:

It’s so wonderful, I’m carrying hugs from people I met in Colorado to people I will meet in Austin! Thank you Rae Ann, it’s good to he “home.”

  80. Jeni Behen says:

Been patiently waiting for your next tour blog and here it is…whoopee!!!
My girlfriend, Suzanne, and I SO enjoyed seeing you and Joe in Kansas City (second time for me, first time for Suzanne [who HATED to miss your first visit to Rainy Day!]) We were front row center and you were terrific, just like spending time with a very good friend. Everyone there had so much fun..your girlfriends are great, warm folks! Loved your appearances on our local tv shows, too…you looked very much at home even if you didn’t feel that way…on to Memphis! We are extraordinarily lucky to have been included in your trip again this year. Really glad you got to see Prydes..isn’t it the best place?! Seeing St. Charles, Hermann and Hannibal here on your blog made me smile…such dear places. Just your type of towns. Happy to know you had a safe trip to SLO. I know you’re reveling in being back in California and will have a terrific time while there and on the remainder of the tour. Susan, thank you so much for being you, sharing your very talented self and drawing all of us who love you into your life. You are a treasure.

    • sbranch says:

Thank you back Jeni. I’m so glad you came to Kansas City, it was just as wonderful for me and Joe. This has been such a fabulous trip! And I agree, like spending time with good friends. xoxo

  81. Laurie Mcbride says:

    • sbranch says:

How nice to meet you Laurie! I adore your family! Yes, we knew Trudi fairly well, she even spent Christmas with us one year! (Looking for a new adventure I guess!) I may have met Gogo, I definitely remember her name . . . I’ve been a bit out of circulation these last four years, writing my books, but plan to change that when I get back to the Island. I broke my ankle in Snowmass about a hundred years ago . . . thank you for the lovely invitation. I will just stay off skis if we get up your way. Thank you so much, hope to see you in person one day!

Your books are such a joy to read. Even your blog comments are fun to read! I wonder if you’ve noticed how many of us say that we don’t want the book to end. I’m certainly one of them. Although I can’t afford to own all of them, I am very thankful that I can get them from my library whenever I want one. I even did an inter-library transfer to get your Summer cookbook. Could only keep it for a week was the only downside. Now I’m enjoying your Autumn book. I love that you hand write your books. It makes them so much more homey & real. I love that on page 71 you can see the pencil lines on the words that are circling the cute squirrel pic. You’ve mentioned that you pencil in the words & then go over them in ink. Double the work for you but the end result is perfect. Actually the end result is imperfect, but that’s even better! Congrats on the NY times article. You deserve it. Loved all the road pics, especially the bucolic farm one. What a grand adventure for you & Joe to share. Keep the updates coming. Thank you so much.

    • sbranch says:

I like the imperfection of hand written myself. Same with letters. Makes them SO much more interesting! Thank you Debbie!

  83. Gail Golden says:

A big congratulations to you for being on the NY Times Best Seller List. What a THRILL!!! Thanks for the update on your trip. I look for one every day to see how it’s going. Love seeing all the girlfriends and the wonderful book shops you visit. And the kitty cats at your studio are just precious.
Blessings and safe travels to you and Joe.

  84. Suzanne says:

Oh my . . .what a wonderful life you are living!! Thank you for sharing and inspiring! ♥

  85. Audrianne Hill says:

Got to wondering…how are your fingers holding up with all that book signing? Does your signature change just a tad as the night wears on or are you able to keep it up? As an English teacher – Amer. Lit., College English, Humanities – correcting all those papers I eventually built up stamina.

I use to joke that my hand from September to June 1st was permanently in a cramped-like position so all I had to do was slip the pen in between the fingers.

Your post looks like you are having so much fun. Hope you get to see all your friends and family while out west. Drive safe.

    • sbranch says:

Yes, I agree, I guess, at least so far, all the years of hand writing the books have given my hand that same stamina! We’re seeing lots of family and lots of old friends here in California. Booked up for the week! 🙂 Thank you Audrianne!

  86. Janice Nelson says:

We missed the event in Salt Lake. I was very upset to miss the opportunity to meet you in person. But our horse was very sick and we spent all day and night with her. (She is doing better). My 17 year old really wanted to meet you, as she has basically grown up with you! Your books have always been part of her life and now I will be getting your summer book out.

Anyway, I am sure you had a wonderful turnout here and congrats on the NY Times nod. You deserve it. Maybe one day we will catch op with you.

    Please keep writing!!

    • sbranch says:

I hope to see you one day Janice . . . I’m so happy to hear your horse is better, hopefully things will keep going in that direction. Hug your daughter for me. xoxo

  87. Nancy from Duck Lake says:

I so enjoyed your book, The Fairy Tale Girl, and now my sister-in-law is reading it & loves it too! Would love you to travel through mid-Michigan on your way back to the Vineyard.

I have your calendars & books & think it would be great to have a Susan Branch Coloring Book. Not too large, just something one could put carry easily in a purse or tote. Happy Summer!!

    • sbranch says:

I’ve been thinking about that too Nancy! I’m so glad you enjoyed the book . . . we went to Michigan on our last book tour, but had to skip Texas . . . this time, we’ll be going home through Texas . . . hopefully we’ll come back to Michigan again one day!

What does it mean that my comment ” is awaiting moderation”? Did I do something wrong?

    • sbranch says:

Not at all. I’ve been SO busy driving and getting here, and getting unpacked, and getting ironed and having a book signing, everything all at once, that I wasn’t able to “moderate” yesterday, which means I have 283 comments waiting here ~ I’m doing it now, so look for your comment soon!

  89. Mary Ann says:

Such a lovely post filled with happy smiling faces! It almost feels like I was there at each signing. We are headed up to Bay Area on TH…sigh, just missing all the fun so thanks for taking the time to share it all with us. Safe travels!

  90. Regina Carretta says:

Susan – so glad you are back sound and safe to your California home after a whirlwind….I still am savoring the thought of buying your book….off to Germany this week, then home on June 13…I imagine, after jet lag naps and coffee on June 14, I will head for my independent bookstore, Edmonds Bookshop, and get your book….you give so much back to us – your care for others, friends, family, animals, art, color, history….you may not realize how much sanity you bring to our questioning worlds here in the USA….thank you for the journeys (put Seattle or Edmonds on your next list), the words and photo’s you share, the art, the heart…..
    Regina,
    Seattle

I know I’ll be rereading the other two also. Thank you so much for sending such wonderful books into our lives.

Susan, what an adorable post! I loved every minute of it, almost like being there with you. St. Charles, MO is one of my favorite places and we stop there most times when we go home to St. Louis, where some of our ‘kids’ live, and where I grew up. We recently had a bridal shower in the tea room for my new GDIL . Congratulations on being # 10, you so deserve it, and may it move right on up the ladder.
    hugs,
    Sheila

  99. It was so fun to hear you speak and to meet you yesterday in Morro Bay. I loved every minute of it. It was fun to hear all my questions answered as members of the audience spoke them up 🙂 And standing in line was great fun, just like you said it would be. Very charming people show up to see you!
Thank you so much for coming back to the central coast to visit. I loved meeting Diana too! Enjoy those west coast kitties =^.^=

  100. Norleen in NorCal says:

    Hi Susan!
NYT Bestsellig list!! Yea! And so deserving!!!i have so enjoyed your journey across our beautiful country ! Along with all the rest of your girlfriends I love reading your uplifting and most informative and fun blog!! My sweet daughter Krista came to your signing in my behalf at the quaint Kings English bookstore. She knew right where it was since she had been there before and she lives in Salt Lake City. She bought 2 of your books for me and you signed them and she had her picture taken with you. I will print it out and put it in Martha’s Vineyard book!! She was at the end of the line so she had so much fun making friends and she thought both you and your cute husband Joe were so friendly and charming!!! Actually I would have flown over to SLC to meet you myself but I had a little oral surgery that got in my way:( and I am going over there the end of June. My sweet children( four altogether) have planned a large family gathering for my 80th birthday that was actually in March but they are taking me back to my favorite place , Aspen Grove in the mountains just south of SLC. I spent 6 weeks there in the summers when I was a very little girl . I lived with my Grandparent and Grandpa was a professor at BYU and they held there summer school there. Such a glorious and magical place. I am so looking forward to it!!! Sorry to run on so but I am delighted to have found your blog and so looking forward to reading your books. I will pick them up when I get over there meanwhile Krista is fascinated with them and is reading them first!! Happy rest of your incredible journey😊💕💕

    • sbranch says:

Loved meeting Krista . . . and so happy she was there to “represent” you! Hope you enjoyed the books! Happy 80th dear Norleen!
