DELIGHTFULLY CUT OFF ☃️

Good Morning . . .MUSICA We are, right now, in the midst of a beautiful inspiring Ad for Victoriasnowstorm here on Martha’s Vineyard, delightfully cut off from the real world, not just any storm, they’re calling it a blizzard. Sometimes, I have to say, working at home has its snow treedrawbacks. You forget to get out of your jammies (until someone drops in, then you think, OMG, L👀k at me!), you lay out your newly designed calendar pages all across the living room floor (generally making a mess wherever you go), you stand staring into the fridge and then eat it all ~ so excited about something you’re painting, that you just leave the open extra-crunchy peanut butter jar and the sourdough toast crumbs on the counter and run back to the studio ~ which means your house gets a little disgusting to match your darling self in jammies and shawl, BUT, on a day like today, I take it all back, I’m grateful because it is heaven to snowy dawnbe cozy at home, listening to the crackling fire, smelling the smoke, in my jammies, warm in my plaid shawl from Scotland, laying out my calendar pages, eating everything in the fridge, drinking tea with honey and milk … and feeling pretty sure (and safe), that in the pouring snow, no one will stop by! Taking deep breaths, and wishing I could slow down time . . . I love winter, everything so much easier now, than in the summer when the windows are open and the birds are singing and all I want to do is run out and play!img_2849

Right now, it’s just counting my blessings, trying to make something out of nothing, blank piece of paper in front of me, never knowing for sure what I am doing, but trying hard to do it, snow falling outside the windows, squirrels hanging from the bird feeders, purring noises coming from my art table . . . the clock ticking on the mantle . . .saying hello to you here and on Twitter (you can go there and just look, you don’t have to join, just in cases😘), then knitting and TV and bed and then do it all over again . . .

img_8070

This is the view from my studio window right now . . . snow pouring down, spirals flying off the barn, piling up at the tops of the picket fence, making snow flowers in the tree branches . . . snow

cozy fire

I walk through my sleepy house to go to my Studio in the morning, as I have for so many years, the old floors creak here and there, muffled noises of snowplow come from outside, and I am overwhelmed for the moment, so grateful that I got to grow up and meet Joe and move here, to this old house I adore so much ~ a house that’s more like a parent, protective and safe, like a mom or a dad. 💖 So cozy, it’s hard to tear myself out of bed in the morning ~ I stay a while and listen to the house and the wind.

img_8058

There’s my honey, a man and his castle, the barn. He was up early, “It’s snowing” he yelled as he ran out the door! The man loves to shovel snow. Don’t ask me why, he just does. Another blessing to be added to my very long list.

img_2897

I do my part . . .

img_8057

We kept a few lights in the kitchen ~ along with candles and the flames in the fireplace, they make a perfect cheery contrast to darker shorter days . . .

img_8054

The lights are still on our kitchen porch too, we keep them year round, they looked good on the summer night of Joe’s birthday too . . .

img_3229

This place is the perfect place for dreaming . . . and I’m definitely dressed to go dreaming . . . and no, I don’t mind if you come along…🎵🎶

img_5266

I thought you’d like to see the photo the Sisters sent from the Holy Nativity Convent . . .  Isn’t this just darling? This should be their Christmas card next year! Pure love. They have Hygge totally under control! Thank you all for your support of the Sisters ~ so many of you responded to that post by ordering candles and clocks and all the other wonderful things the sisters make… they are ecstatic, you’ve made their day/year, and filled those 17 little stockings with peace and good will.  I just have to say, for the upty-ninth time, I love us!sweetnessflowers

img_7901

I love him too. My kitty. Now when he rubs his head on me, I rub my head on him. We are simpatico together. I get him, he gets me, and all is well in la-la-land.Do not disturbsantiago

So here I am, painting away for the next calendar, thinking to myself, as I watercolor my letters to the tune of the ticking clock, “What will they like? What can I give them . . .” meaning you, and hoping I guess right . . .  I do dream it . . .if you dream it

darner

Oh, and I was thinking, maybe I should make my own mugs? I mean other people have done it, I ought to be able to figure it out. So, for starters, I made a paper one. Just fooling around . . . but isn’t it cute?

img_8087

As you know, my boy Jack hangs out in the Studio with me, sometimes asleep, but other times he’s going after something . . . like my new Scottish plaid heart (sent to me by Elizabeth) which was hanging on my “fridge.” This is his “you caught me” face. See the pillow on top of the fridge? It didn’t used to look like Jack, but I blacked in the nose and mustache with a black marker and now it does! Life and all it’s little bits and pieces, ahhhhh.happy! flowers

I do have to get to work though, we leave for California at the end of next month, I’ll be meeting (in person) the screenwriter who is still hard at work on the script for our (not-ThreeBooksgoing-to-happen-but-still-a-fun-thought-anyway 😜) movie or series or whatever it will be.  It was just this time last year when I first heard someone might want to make a movie from my trilogy of books, and so we’re going to meet under the HOLLYWOOD sign when Joe and I get out to California ~ her idea! A place I’ve never been! So, how fun is that?  And also, that book signing I mentioned? It is for sure going to be on March 18th. I don’t know the exact time yet, but Apple watercolorI’m assuming it’ll be in the afternoon ~ at the Apple Farm in San Luis Obispo, CA. Did I hear someone mention road trip????  I hope so! Lots of wonderful EVERYTHING in the SLO-town area in March, Spring!  Ocean, sunshine🌞, and beach restaurants, cute downtown shopping, antique stores, nearby towns filled with charm, wineries, farmstands and good restaurants . . . on and on. Put the Beach Boys Kokomo in your MUSICA, start learning the words, sing along in your car and and come on down (or over, or up)!  Until then, dear friends . . . Enjoy! Next time, on the blog, I’ll show you more of England!HeartThrobswinter word

    Susan,
You had me at Jammies! Wonderful blog. Happy Winter!

  2. Gail Risden says:

Susan, Your pictures and your stories have cheered up many of my days. I love seeing your blog in my inbox. What about doing a series of mugs? I love all the artwork you do -would love a series of flowers with all of your special touches. We are expecting quite a huge storm here in No. CA. We need rain so badly but too much may cause flooding and mudslides in areas where fires raged thru earlier. Seeing your photos of beautiful snow scenes outside and warm fires and a pretty kitty inside is an upper.Thank You so much for all you share with us, Gail

    • Debbie P., Weedsport, NY says:

I love your idea, Gail! I started to collect the EB flower mugs. I have two. But too expensive, and honestly, although pretty, I would like them a bit larger with a more comfortable feel in the hand. Hope you’re listening, dear Sue 🙂

  3. Beth L. says:

    LOVE LOVE LOVE SNOW STORMS!!!!
Although 8+ inches of snow in central NC is a BIG DEAL, I have cozied up to its impact and relish the consequences!
Got up this morning in my usual stupor, poured first cup of coffee and turned on TCM…..Two movies later my husband asked if I was going to get dressed out of my bathrobe for the day.
    “What for??” I asked.
Heaven….. No one’s coming in and I’m not going out! Ha! Total Peace.

  4. Carol Lee says:

I don’t know how you do it, but your blogs, calendars, books, Willard, everything you do is so inspiring and I just can’t wait to read the next one!

  5. Lynn Cooper says:

OMG! I’d buy a mug that looked like that! Do it. Go for it. Put them on your web site when they are done! I’ll order a few of them. They will make great gifts for loved ones.

  6. kp says:

Embracing winter makes January so much more enjoyable! I have been reading the middle of your trilogy, and I am so happy to hear that a movie or tv show may be in the works. The whole time I have been reading your books I imagined seeing it happen. The big question, of course, is who do you want to play YOU?
And yes please, on the mugs. I think you could easily sell a kazillion. Happy Blizzard from a fan in Minnesota!

  7. I do love fresh snow to get things done inside. I like a little shoveling too, but by March I am done with it.
I like Mr. Jack dreaming for some birdies. 🐦
Mugs are nice. I know the one with cherries would sell all over the place up here. Maybe with a robin.
I wish I could see SLO. I love apples and boysenberries! Yum!
My cousin is in Sacremento, and we drove to some apple farms a couple of years ago.
    Hugs,
    Margot

  8. Chy says:

Hi Susan. I’m almost jealous of your blizzard! Writing to you today from sunny Canada and we are definitely not having the Winter of my childhood. Just enough snow to keep Christmas in the season but not enough to even have to shovel. I personally love a great old snowstorm …. planning for days ahead before it arrives, making sure we have enough food and daily supplies to live comfortably until the snowplows come to dig us out. We’re in the country, deep in the woods and there is nothing better than putting on the fireplace, turning on the stove to make tea and setting up a stack of books to read while the wind howls outside and the snow makes the world white and pristine again. Ahhhhh! No luck so far this winter though. It will be cold this coming week but not a speck of the white stuff is predicted. Enjoy your time staying cozy and warm! X Chy

  9. DeLores Johnson says:

Today in Minnesota, it is cold, but sunny. This coming week is will be cold, way below zero and severe wind chills. We have snow too and they are predicting more this week. I love a blizzard and have lived thru many of them. When I was young and growing up I remember when it was so bad, my Dad had a long rope tied to the porch post and strung it down to the barn and tied it on the barn door handle. When he was done with the chores and milking the cows, he would hold on to the rope when he walked back to the house so he would not get lost in the storm.( I could write a book), maybe if I knew how!! Have lots of old pictures too about how bad the storms were. I am going to try to send the pictures of our home to you on facebook. I hope it works. Will you ever come to Minnesota for a book signing? I hope so.Love the cup. Make some more!!! Have a nice trip to California. My dream is to go on Amtrak on a long trip(just a dream). Love,DeLores

    • sbranch says:

I hope to get up there someday DeLores, such a pretty part of the country, we would love to explore. Love your dad and rope story. My goodness! Dreams are good, never stop, xoxo

  10. Jackie P. says:

Snowing inches here in southern NH, too. Love being “cut-off” from the rest of the world as well. Like a winter wonderland. Made lots of tea today, a pot of beef stew, changed the bed linens, fluffed the duvet and watched Hidden Houses on Netflix for a bit. Great series about hidden houses in Wales. You would love it. Features old homes/estates that were brought back to life by new owners who fell in love with them! Love, love, love days like this!

  11. Karen Holly says:

Oh Susan, this is one of those times when you have to pinch yourself to make sure everything is really happening! There is nothing like a New England snow storm. Up in New Hampshire we don’t have quite as much snow as you do in the Vineyard, but as I write the snow is still falling. I live in a dream and my life is a dream- my husband was transferred to New England from the (also beautiful) Midwest two decades ago, so we all moved out here…to this amazing part of the United States where my soul was waiting for me. And I can’t help but feel it the most when the snow is falling…and my heart is filled with gratitude and thankfulness…

  12. Regina says:

Love your snow pictures. Here in Kansas we’ve had a good snow and very cold right now. This morning it was 9 degrees, though it became a pretty, sunny day. We stayed in all day, lounging around watching old TV shows and football. I was under a cozy fleece throw and wearing fuzzy socks. My husband made chili and I spent most of the day reading! Many other things I could have done but so enjoyed the down time. Love the mug idea! Would be the first in line to get one. Enjoy sunny California and safe travels to you.

  13. Julia says:

I love Emma’s mugs. I bought mine in New York for 35 dollars.. its microwaveable which is most important.. I see you sell, them too. Your price is perfect also.. Would love them with tea cups and Xmas lights and little hearts drawn on .. The handle looks perfect.. enjoy your snow! Enjoy Martha’s Vineyard!!! Stay warm!

  14. Mugs sound great, but how about some lovely tea cups too… no snow in Charleston SC but it’s cold enough to stay inside and work on the blanket I’m knitting, feels so warm piled in my lap.

  15. Mary S. says:

Oh, my goodness, Susan! All that snow and your cozy house and everything so beautiful, it makes me wish so much I lived where it snows! And that paper mug – you absolutely have got to make those!! I love that so much, and I would most definitely buy them! Love from Mary S. in Fresno, California

  16. Judith says:

Hoo-ray for Hol-ly-wooood! Yes on series of movies. Been thinking on who should play you…Emma Stone maybe?! And big YES on that adorable birdy mug! Count me in!

  17. Bonnie says:

Love your snowy pictures today, Susan! I grew up in ND and do miss those blizzards days when you can stay cuddled in reading and drinking tea. We planned our road trip to SLO last night and can’t wait to see you and all the girlfriends.

  18. Kathy Hughes says:

Love your blog always! Please make bird mugs; your paper one is perfectly precious. I also loved Lin Rader’s winter poem. All of it or a quote from it would be darling illustrated on one of your calendar pages. This is great weather for finishing your work. HAPPY painting.

  19. susan mcmillan says:

It looks sooo cozy and warm and wonderful in your home! Its cold down here in New Orleans too but I love it, we can finally dig our coats out and gloves and actually get to wear them. I hope turning my outside faucet on with a drip helps it from freezing.
Many wonderful blessings to you in this cold to start off 2017!!!
    ~Susan

  20. Jan Lane says:

I put away most of the Christmas decorations, but like you, left some winter cheer, like the poinsettia plants, a few twinkly white lights, and things that are bright red. I took the tree out and sat it on the balcony and as it is still quite fresh, I may turn it into a bird feeding station.

It is raining cats and dogs here in Pine Mountain Club, Ca. If it gets colder, we will have more snow. Staying put for the moment.

Your home sounds warm and cosy. You sound happy. Keeping busy doing the things which brings you the most joy is a great way to combat the winter time blues.

I hope that I can drive over to the coast to SLO when you come out in March. I would love to meet you. Keep us posted. Be safe!

  21. Snowy weekends and jammies were just made for each other! So happy for your snowy weekend, Susan and Joe! 🙂 We had four snowy weekends during December. Snowflakes always feel so much friendlier on the weekends!

What a joy to see the stockings hung by the chimney with care at the Holy Nativity Convent. The fifth stocking from the right is my favorite! It is the very same stocking that my aunt knitted for all of us when we were very young. Those same stockings are still a special part of our family Christmas every year! ♥ Sending peaceful wishes to everyone celebrating Orthodox Christmas today!

Oh, yes… ‘Susan’ mugs would be just delightful! 🙂
Wishing us all a New Year filled with heart-throbs!
Stay safe & cozy in the blizzard!
    Warmest hugs,
    Dawn (in Illinois)
    ♡♡

  22. Debby Suovanen says:

The snow scenes at your house are beautiful! We’re having more snow here in southern Oregon than we’ve had in the 14 years since I’ve been here. For a native San Diegan, this is all new to me and I love it! As long as I don’t have to drive in it, which, thankfully, I seldom do. I think your mug idea is wonderful. With your creativity, I’m sure you will come up with many delightful mugs for all of us girlfriends! Please make them!

  23. Tina says:

I LOVE that pillow of Jack! It is sooo darling!!! I wrote you an email not sure that you are the one who reads it, but I did try. 🙂 I told you about actually getting 2 copies of your Christmas book this year instead of just 1. When it rains, it pours (and it is storming in CA now)!

    • sbranch says:

Haven’t seen it Tina, but as usual, so many emails, so little time! I’ll try! Good! A back up for birthday gift is always a good thing!

  24. Rosemary Monk--Near Boston says:

I am so glad I opened your blog before shutting down. I always love what you write and show with photos and your art. And I too am a true New Englander, love the snow. I’m headed into Boston this Monday the 9th for a hip replacement, so may miss a couple of blogs. But that will give me more to catch up on when I’m finally up for reading. Meanwhile, I’ll close my eyes, and dream of your photos, your art, and your wonderful take on life. Thank you for your friendship with all us Girlfriends and I wish you and Joe, and all of your family and friends, a Happy, Healthy, Peaceful New Year. I’ll be back soon!

    • sbranch says:

Get well soon Rosemary! You’ll be a whole new person! Yay!

    • chris consentino says:

prayers for you, Rosemary. my mom had a hip replacement at the age of 80, and her dr. said it would now be her “best part”….and, it was. you’ll do well and be surprised at how well you feel afterward. our prayers will help, I am sure!! let us know when you’re feeling better!! a happy, healthy new yr to you.

    • Charlotte Schultz says:

Hope all went well with your surgery, Rosemary.

  25. Connie Leach says:

Sigh… Florida panhandle “only state in the 48 with no snow”. Well… I love it so much its fun to see your pictures and watch it on the weather channel! And of course there are wonderful memories of Nashville childhood snow which was always wetter and deeper and once even on Christmas Eve!

Have you ever read NORTHERN fARM by Henry Beston? You almost get cold reading it– beautiful descriptions of winter.

Love the mug! Please make some!

    • sbranch says:

      I’ll look for it Connie!

    • Rachel says:

Connie, I lived in Pensacola for several years. One winter we did have snow!!! The school children were so excited, that between classes, they didn’t come back in the building. The buses were called and everyone went home. Don, another teacher, and I started talking while we were waiting outside with our students……7 months later we were married….and that was almost 40 years ago. So, keep hoping, you might actually get a little dusting.

  26. Marie Fell says:

Did you say mug? Absolutely, put me down for one, or maybe two; one as a gift! Great! A perfect day to read your blog! “Cozy” is the name of the game today except for those who were running in a 5k this morning. Lots of snowbirds around here. Only about an inch of snow in Avon Lake, west of Cleveland but turned on the 🔥 fireplace just to see if it works. Success! Hope your electricity holds. So excited about the prospects of a movie or tv series! Would kind of remind me of Gilmore Girls. Wouldn’t that be so grand? Good luck with your meeting! Just had to say the Jack pillow had me fooled! So realistic. Just about ready to begin reading “the Susan Branch trilogy” again. Perfect for a winter read! Happy January, Susan! Fondly, Marie ☃

  27. Linda Tuskey says:

I am always struck by the things the girlfriends have in common with each other and you. We love the tiny details of life. Don’t we? If there is a Susan Branch movie (fingers crossed), the sets would be extremely important. Just like the movie Holiday House (Is that right? The one with the women – one in England, one in USA – who switch houses at Christmas.) The sweet cottage in England was totally fabricated for filming. Maybe Hollywood would build a replica of your tiny little MV house. You, of course, would have to fill it with all of the sweet, sentimental treasures of trips taken or friendships shared. I HOPE this will become reality.

Obviously, many of us think of Emma Bridgewater when you say mug. I bought the little mugs she makes for children when I was at her shop. Red ones that say “Big Love” because my grandchildren call my husband “Big.” Susan Branch mugs should come in two sizes, too. I’m just say-in.

I have a recipe to share for hot chocolate, easy and delicious. I have been on a quest for the best hot chocolate recipe, and this comes close. One quart of milk, one third of a cup of sugar, and two ounces of very good semisweet or unsweetened chocolate chopped into small pieces (Martha Stewart says with a serrated knife.) Heat chocolate, sugar, and a cup of milk to blend ingredients. Then add the rest of the milk. Perfect with whipped cream on top. At a gingerbread house decorating workshop at the Boars Head Inn in Charlottesville, Virgina, they served hot chocolate from very large silver urns with spouts and a bowl of freshly whipped cream to add. I found the chef and he gave me the recipe, which I will share once I break it down from 3 gallons of milk, one gallon of heavy cream. The ingredients include cinnamon sticks! Who knew?

I didn’t mean to take over the blog. I learn so much from your writing and the posts from the girlfriends that I wanted to share something of value.

    • sbranch says:

Sounds delicious and like I want to jump up and make hot chocolate right now! I also, btw, if you are still looking around, have two quite amazing recipes for hot chocolate in my Autumn book, AND also, homemade marshmallows! One of my chocolate recipes is best with whipped cream, but the other one requires marshmallows for best mind-blowing drinking enchantment. 💖

  28. Sandra says:

I adore the snugness of winter too: PJ’s and shawl and a good book or creating something with hook and yarn or making mandalas! Your home looks so welcoming in the winter months – all that and snow too! Wonderful

  29. Amy Lee from Salem says:

Cheers Susan, just love your snowy post. We have an abundance of snow here on the west coast today only ours comes with a promise of freezing rain overnight, not such a good thing. However I love the snow and cold because I have a great excuse for an extra pot of tea. Yes, please do design bird cups. They would be a wonderful gift for a girlfriend.

  30. Candice says:

    Dear Susan,
Wonderful blog! Love the Sisters, their home and all the creativity that flows through it!
Your mug is adorable, I hope that you can make it happen! It would be awesome to have a cup of “Susan” every morning!
We have had “lake effect” snow here which does not accumulate too much but enough to make the roads slippery and it has been bitterly cold and windy. I wear lots of layers when venturing outdoors. ‘
I love being snowed in, love the coziness of it all.
Thank you for sharing your snowy world with all of us!
    Hugs,
    Candice xo

  31. Janet Johnson says:

I don’t think you would have any trouble selling those mugs! I think you should have a whole set of dishes like the Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond. Your watercolors are so delicious!

That fire looks so cozy. We were promised here in Georgia up to six inches of snow, were warned three days of unsafe driving, and there was something like baby powder on the ground for a few hours and then it was gone. The grocery stores were crazy with lines down the aisles and no milk or bread. My poor teens work at two different grocery stores and they were so exhausted when they got home. This is why people laugh at us Southerners!

I love the Gladys Taber quote. I sadly had to sell my Stillmeadow books due to needing money, and someone from 162.240.10.175/~susanbs3/susanbranch/ bought the last one! I am glad it found a good home.

    • sbranch says:

Not just you, they LOVE to make every little mist from the sky into the “Storm of the Century.” I blame Jaws! Probably grocery store owners in collusion with the weather channel. 🤗

  32. Mugs! Yes, yes, yes, yes, please.

  33. Betty says:

I would cherish a mug designed by you, Susan!

  34. Gayle Hall says:

Oh Susan as usual your e-mail is lovely. We too have crazy weather here. Fourteen below, last night. Glad there was no wind or it would have been worse. Loved all the wonderful poems and photos of your snow. Seems the east coast is really getting hit with awful weather. I loved the photo from the nuns also, and yes it would be a lovely Christmas card. Thank you always for sharing your life. Love and warm wishes from Gayle Hall

  35. LilyAnn Kranking says:

    Susan,
Your writing is like a talk through computers with a friend. so enjoy every word. Having lived in NJ,CT,IN(getting snow effect from Lake Michigan) ,KY, and now miss the snow……BUT guess what? We had snow last night and today.! I loved it. Of course not having to go out and drive in it make it more of a pleasure. The temps are very low and it will last until Tues. but by Friday they predict near seventy. They say in NC if you don’t like the weather today wait around a few days and it is sure to change. Love the design on the mug and maybe the idea of a movie of your books….wow isn’t life exciting at times. We will just wait and see what this new year will bring. Until next letter, keep warm and good luck with the calendar pages. LilyAnn from NC

  36. Barbara Seibert says:

Yes it is cute, the cup that is. Hope you make many some with polka a dots I hope. Would love to get some mugs from you. To dream to dream.

  37. Jo Marsh says:

Happy New Year! Please design more cups–love it!
Trying to think who would play you and Joe in a movie….what fun! Warm wishes for 2017; thanks for adding color and joy to our lives.

  38. Sometime there is nothing like a good blizzard to slow things down and help us count our blessings!!!! Loved seeing all of your beautiful snow photo, Susan. And your paper mug is absolutely adorable. I wish you and Joe a very wonderful trip to California – I know my sister, cousin, and I are looking forward to seeing the movie!!! HUGS!

  39. Nicole Brake says:

    Hi Susan,

I bought your trilogy books as a Christmas present to myself. Have already finished “The Fairy Tale Girl”, and am now reading “Isle of Dreams”. When you described your mother in the first book about “how during her labor, a piece of her soul broke off and went into yours”, I was crying for days. So beautiful what you wrote about all the time you spent with her growing up. She and your dad both sounded AMAZING. I have 2 kids of my own, but have been estranged from my own mother for years. You have been a surrogate mom/inspiration to me for as long as I can remember. I hope that when my son and daughter are grown they will remember me as you described your parents. You and I share so many similarities. I was also raised in San Fernando Valley. My husband and I moved to the East Coast a few years back after spending our entire lives in L.A. We both needed a change of scenery, and it was the best decision we ever made. When people pick up and move thousands of miles away from everything they have ever known…there is always a reason. While reading book #2 yesterday, I thought to myself,”Someone should make this into a movie someday.” I am happy for you that the opportunity presented itself. Good luck! Much love to you in the new year.

    • sbranch says:

You made me cry reading what I wrote about my mom! Isn’t that silly, but I do feel that way, love makes you cry sometimes! I’m sure your kids adore you, you’re making up for your own mom. You sound so happy, I’m happy for you! xoxo Thank you Nicole!

    • chris consentino says:

dearest Nicole. of course, none of us know of the reasons for your estrangement from your Mom. assuredly, there must be good ones. but…I will surely pray that the reasons may be dissolved and peace may enter the space they now hold in your hearts. whatever that peace may include…surely, can’t it be better than what is there now? prayers and hope will find their way to you. bless you all.

  40. Ann says:

    Hello Susan
What a joy it is to have you share your snowy pictures with us. The chances of having snow here in the UK are fairly remote, and even if we did it would probably cause chaos on the roads as we are never prepared for it, so it is especially wonderful to be able to enjoy yours without any of the inconvenience it can bring. Absolutely love the bottomless paper mug, surely Emma Bridgewater would have some competition if you could get them into production. We gave our daughter Sarah your 30th Anniversary edition of Heart of the Home for her birthday and she was totally over the moon that you had signed it to her. Thank you for being so kind and gracious in Aylesbury. Looking forward to more of your darling blog posts in 2017.
With love to you and Joe from Ann in Chester (and sometimes in Aylesbury).

  41. rhea says:

Yes. Love the mug idea! Of course you should be painting mugs from the heart of the home. Its so you. I just recently moved from the west coast to the east coast and have lots of snow and 5 degree weather right now. I didn’t know how much I was going to love it. I’ve been burning a fire for weeks now, cooking wonderful comfort food, read more books in the last two months than I have in the last two years, and I too have changed from one pair of jammies to the next after a long bubble bath and couldn’t be happier. We came for a visit last summer to a tiny town called Dorset and bought a house that weekend having no idea what this California beach girl was getting herself into and I’m so content, its ridiculous! Deer in my backyard, birds and squirrels on the bird feeders, foxes, wild turkeys that I feed daily, and I too love to shovel snow. It’s the simple life and what a wake up call it has been. Living off the land is a wonderful thing. I forgot what is was like having water and greenery all around you! Already planning my garden beds!!!

    • sbranch says:

Love that!!! LOL, wait until you see all the seasons, one after another, and every year! It’s just the best! Good for YOU!

  42. Gail in NJ says:

Oh yes Susan, please make some mugs for us. The kitchen stove or small house designs would be perfect!!

  43. Lexy says:

We are freezing here in Indiana with no snow. Not fair..cold and snow go together like you and “us”.
Quick question. Have you ever told us the story of how Jack and Miss Kitty have come to live with you. If so, I missed it. Would you please point me in the right direction in how to find it. They are way too sweet.

    • sbranch says:

HERE’S the story of when Jack came . . . Girl Kitty when to heaven last August, but maybe someday I’ll do her story too, she was a very good girl.💝

  44. Stephanie says:

Oh my — you should definitely, definitely make your own mugs!!!

  45. Carol On the farm in Iowa says:

We haven’t had a blizzard yet, but it would be welcome with me! Lots of days in the single digits.
I love your mug, would use one or more for myself! They would make nice gifts also.
We are off to church this morning, first let the car warm up.
    Stay warm and cozy! ❤️🏡

  46. Chris Wells. Knickerbocker, W TX says:

Hi Susan! A blizzard! I love blizzards! I have never had one in the 20 years I have been in Knickerbocker!😀 but one inch of snow accomplishes the same thing down here! Electricity goes out, people are stranded on the side of the road and have to be rescued! This Yankee gets a kick out of watching it snow in the South!
Seriously I am all about the mugs. Ready to order when you say the word. Nothing would make me happier than to see a Susan Branch mug next to Emma Bridgewater!!👏
And if mugs are possible, why not a whole set of dishes?!
It is very cold here, 14 this morning. I am ignoring the fact it could be 80 by Wednesday, we have a fire and Ohio chili on the stove! Life is GOOD,
    Love ya!

    • P.S. I love the bird on the mug! But I think we also need a mug with Jack on it! And maybe a sweet tribute to Girl!

      • sbranch says:

Definitely Jack! The mustache, he’s a little bit unique. ‘Course people who aren’t familiar with him would probably never believe it!

      • Susan Morgon ( Ohio gal from SoCal ) says:

I’m with Chris – love the bird mug! A couple of designs would be even better! Chris, how in the world does one inch of snow knock out the power? Too funny! Kind of like SoCal when it rains. AND, you are making me hungry for chili!

    • sbranch says:

So far I’ve only found a mug maker (not a dish maker) that will let me design and only make me buy a few hundred, instead of like thousands, but I’m not done looking! Enjoy your day while it lasts Chris!

  47. Elaine Erhart from Missouri says:

Oh, the glorious snow!! Here in Missouri, each year we seem to get less and less snow. I love the look of everything you see out of your windows! It looks heavenly! Oh – and I love, love the model of your cup you are thinking about. DO IT! That would be awesome; can hardly wait and please make them affordable too. Stay warm and snuggly in your jammies.

  48. Nancy Roth says:

Happy snow day to you! Thanks for the lovely post. I, too, love a blizzard, as long as everyone is safe! Your post warmed me from the tip of my nose down to my toes! I am enjoying a cup of hot tea on this very cold (-17 degrees here in northern Minnesota) January morning. And some SB mugs; how delightful! I would want one for all my girlfriends! Have a happy, snowy Sunday! Thanks for making us all feel so special!

  49. Janet Baird says:

Hi Susan! Enjoyed your winter blizzard blog, even more so with the storm we are finally getting out here in California. Reminiscing about the book signing at Madonna Inn and our store, Country Classics, that you so graciously did for us, about 10 years ago and looking forward to to the one at Apple Farm. Downtown SLO is really changing. The Sinsheimer building has a new tenant, Guisseppi’s. They moved their Italian restaurant from up the street and brought life back to my favorite historic building since we closed our business there 8 years ago. I think you would enjoy seeing it and how they have incorporated what used to be the back parking space and warehouse into their restaurant. It has the elegance and charm of an old Italian family restaurant. If you get a chance to go, do so for lunch or an early dinner as their success has kept them busy. That block of Monterey street has ” reopened ” after several years of construction and has quite a different look to it. I’m glad the Sinsheimer bldg was able to retain some of its historical significance.
I miss Country Classics, but along with my daughter, Jessica, we keep our creative efforts going with our home staging business. But the best is having time with family, especially our 5 children and 11 grandchildren who all live close by, bound together by weekly Sunday night dinners, adventures and celebrations. I have enjoyed reading your blog and am so happy for all the joy and success life is bringing to you! Thank you for sharing and inspiring us all.

    • sbranch says:

Can’t wait. I love Sinsheimer’s too and miss your store every time I’m in SLO! You worked yourself silly in that store and it showed because it was wonderful. My favorite part was how you color-coordinated each section, all the red things together, all the blue things, it was so creative and inspiring. I’ve never seen that done anywhere else. I could spend hours in there! Thank you for your kind comments💞. I think that Madonna Inn event was probably one of the most amazing I’ve ever had. I know it’s been a long time, but I do want to say again, thank you, Janet! And please say hello to Jessica for me!

    • Arline in So CA says:

Oh, Janet. It was so much fun reading this! We just loved Country Classics, and always had to go there when visiting family in Pismo and Arroyo Grande. I still have some treasures from there, like bed pillowcases that have “Dreaming of Paris” embroidered on them.

Susan was there signing the Autumn book when it came out. I still have the flyer in my copy. It was 7:00 pm, September 3, 2004. Time really flies. We will have to try out the new restaurant in the building. Arline in Burbank

  51. Christine Perica says:

Your work environment is perfect! Jammies, fireplace blazing, snow flying, Jack purring, tea in hand and seeing your man shoveling snow. Love all that. The Sisters’ tree looks like you drew it! And please make that mug, just as you drew it. Glenn thought it was ready to purchase. Now back to your study. Love!

  52. Linda Freeman says:

“We should count time by heart-throbs.” I was told by an Oxford University English professor that it’s thought that when the sonnet, which usually deals with love, was created, its number of accented syllables was meant to mimic the number of the heart’s beats per minute.

  53. Merry says:

“Pouring snow” I love it. A coastal storm means we get ‘mortoned’ at the Jersey shore. Valentining was cancelled so it became a coconut pancakes, TCM day.

  54. Sandy from the Central Coast ❤️️ says:

Good Morning Susan! I’m in my Jammie’s and reading my emails and enjoying your post 😊 My girlfriend and I are making plans to see you back home on the Central Coast where everything is better ❤️😍 Apple Farm will be a wonderful place to visit with all of the Girlfriends 🍎🍎❤️️ And the hills should be really green too😀

  55. Susan – Yes, great idea – I would LOVE it if you created mugs with your designs! And I truly hope your movie/tv series will happen, it’s a great story. Keep us posted!

  56. Jeannie says:

Oh Susan, isn’t the snow beautiful!!! Our snow here in the Asheville area started Fri afternoon, tapered off, then snowed on into the night! We got 8 inches here in Fletcher! The sun is out this morning, 9 degrees out! Churches have been canceled so I grabbed some time to read your blog with my black cat Sammy laying down in front of me! Got up to get more coffee and saw my granddaughter bundled up walking her Christmas dog Rosey and their older dog Pearl. They live down the driveway from us. SO Blessed! What a great idea creating mugs! Can’t wait to see them! I can’t believe they would faze out fog horns! 🙁 I used to hear them when I visited my Aunt Ruth in Corona del Mar, we didn’t have them in Laguna. It was such a cozy sound in the middle of the night. Best to you on your movie possibility! Meeting at the Hollywood sign, she sounds like a lady with a definite (sp?) plan!
    Love ya,
    Happy New Year to all!
    Jeannie (and Sammy)

  57. Christy says:

What a cozy post! Thank you for reminding us of all the happiness that comes with snow.

We had some of our first snowflakes this weekend! Nothing like watching snow flakes fall with my friends little one. How we hopped it would snow, snow, snow, and built dreams of a snowman together! He eyes so big and round as she asked, “Why is that snow flake flying up? It should be going down!” I couldn’t help but chuckle.

I think the mug idea is lovely! I love the edging, and the handle is so sweet. I saw a mug this weekend that had a little message underneath as well, which I thought was so cleaver! Not just in the mug, but when you wash and turn it to dry, you get another reason to smile! 🙂

Thank you for keeping your twinkle lights up! I was just thinking, “Oh, she sold keep them up all year! They are so cheerful!” And then you said you do! 😂 I think I’m going to go out and put my twinkle lights up on the inside of my porch, just to keep them up for the rest of the year! My goal this year is to make my apartment more oy, and enjoyable, and I think twinkle lights all year will help. ❤️

Stay cozy and warm, all the best to Joe and Jack!

    Xoxo
    Christy

  58. Ann says:

As I sit here in my Jammies and shawl, I vote yes to the mugs. Love your paper version.

  59. Kathy Clarke says:

Again, your blog is wonderful and I also love your paper mug! But also enjoy reading comments from your readers-interconnectiveness!! See you at apple farm as I have yet to read your books!

  62. Susan Morgon ( Ohio gal from SoCal ) says:

We’ve had a couple of pretty snowfalls here. I’m readjusting myself to life in NE Ohio in the winter. Except for the cancellation of a family get – together during the holidays, the snowy times haven’t been bad. It ‘s easier being retired…..no schedule to keep. Time to read and dream and jot down a few thoughts in a journal. We’re planning a trip back to CA too, in May. Traveling our favorite way, on the Southwest Chief, back too see our kids, the grandchilren, and a brand new grandson who arrives in March!
This is a beautiful blog, Susan. All of your pictures are so cheerful and cozy – everything that’s wonderful about winter !

  63. Mary Lawrence says:

We had our blizzard yesterday and sent it your way.Snowed in for the next few days and loving it.I do hope you get to tell your story on the big screen.Love the mug, dream and it happens. You are the queen of cozy and have lots of ladies in waiting feeling the cozy.Enjoy your snow as we are.I was born in a snowstorm and love snow!Loving all my calendars ,blotter, day book, diary and wall calendar.Happy snow.Mary in 15 degree Gloucester,Virginia.

  64. Kathie L says:

I’m so glad to hear that a movie is in the works for your book. I just hope it doesn’t go anything like Lionel’s experience in “As Time Goes By.” What a hoot that set of shows was!

  65. Becky Ross says:

Yes, totally infatuated with New England life and your blogs… I hated putting all our beautiful Christmas away.; all the many years of Christmas past; packing away the ugly little angel ornament that my mother gave Ray & me for our 1st Christmas in 1968. She prided herself on having such pretty things and then gave us this pathetic little ornament that she wrote on the bottom of it on a bandaid. I teased Mother unmercifully about that angel and as the years went by, of course, the styrofoam angel with most of the decorations worn off, became my very favorite. Now that “The Rose” is gone, I would literally die if the Ugly Angel was not right in the middle of our tree for everyone to view… Our grandchildren say, “She’s sooo UGLY” and that really makes me laugh. Our English Manor home looks empty with all the decorations tucked away for another year. It was so magical last month here in the house with the smell of molasses cookies in the oven. Our smallest grandaughter is so good at making them with me but she hates the heavy smell. We decided Santa likes them just fine & then she started eating them, too.

I will also be drinking my English Breakfast Tea in one of your precious mugs as soon as they are “ready”… blue is best for me. Come stay ith me in Kansas City. I am waiting for you to laugh & play with me, my darling girl… Remember, I do not BITE!!! Love, Becky

    • sbranch says:

We have our ugly guy too, it’s a giant white bear, not so much ugly, as idiotic, but it’s our beloved idiotic thing my sister gave me, so it goes up every year!

  66. Sandra Pincince says:

Oh Susan, I thought of you the minute the weather report said that the Cape & the islands were going to get tons of snow. How beautiful your photos are! Here in western MA we got a respectable amount & we’re loving every bit. My small cozy house is snow covered & the birds are enjoying every bit of their seed. Their biggest fan (besides the resident humans) is my wonderful black cat Woody, adopted last year from the shelter where I volunteer. He thinks they are twice as entertaining as any TV production. You’re thinking of designing mugs. Yippee!! Have a lovely weekend!

  67. Ethel J Craig says:

Your paper mug with the blue flowers and bird is sweet. Yu should make mugs; we will all buy many! You should order more than a few hundred. I think when I logged in it said there were 149 comments and almost everyone is in favor of at least one mug. I would want 5 for my mug shelf hooks. YOU are the very best Susan!

    • sbranch says:

That’s a very good way to look at it, like a for-sure 149 sold! 👏 Plus your 5! Thank you Ethel! XOXO

  68. Lorraine says:

I think you have your hygee right too. It has been very cold here but no snow (~60 miles SW of Chicago). Hopefully, that will change soon.

I love the idea of designing your own mugs. Your prototype looked great. I know you’ve been working on getting more things made in USA and hope you can find a source for USA made mugs. I own a small business and we had our logo put on mugs that were made in USA. They cost a bit more (not bad) but they’re worth it.

Stay warm and cozy and happy in your snow covered nest. Thanks for sharing the preview of the calendar. Looks amazing.

    • sbranch says:

I’m hoping for an elegant kid of mug, bone china if possible … I’m always looking for Made in America …even when it costs more. My books cost twice as much to publish in the US as they would in Asia. It’s hard because of all the other costs, but they do make me proud so I consider it worth it.

      • Lorraine says:

I agree – definitely worth it… Unfortunately, I’m unaware of any US companies that do fine bone china. As I’m sure you know, there are companies in UK – not sure why we can’t do it here, but they know their stuff in UK… I’m not opposed to countries who value and respect their employees – which translates into many things, including an adequate wage. I appreciate your efforts with the books, etc. It matters – although it can be challenging. Wishing you the best of luck with your endeavors…

  69. Gail Osgood says:

Yes Susan! Please make mugs!!!! Only make sure they’re big, at least 14 oz. I would so buy them! I know exactly what you mean about being lucky enough to work from home. I work from home too. Every morning I give thanks that I can stay in my cozy home in my stretchy pants with my little dog and I don’t have to go out into the big, bad world and the big bad traffic! It’s a dream come true for homebodies like us, especially in the wintertime.

  70. I’ve made mugs from my art work on Zazzle. They have a variety of styles and sizes and materials, and I’ve been very pleased with them. Might be a good way to get a feel for what they look like, and they frequently have discounts.

    • sbranch says:

We’ve been looking at that. I put my fabric designs on Spoonflower. It’s such an interesting new way to do things. Thank you Jeanne!

  71. Gloria Nugent says:

I would adore anything you imagine on a mug..however I am partial to birds💕Would love to see picture of yourself in that plaid shawl. I wish I could muster the same excitement you feel about winter. Pennsylvania is very frigid right now in the western parts. Thanks for the idea of mugs because we know you can make it happen !! Stay warm our dear artist/girlfriend/blogger/tea loving inspiration to us all💕

  72. Cece says:

    Hi Sue,
Well this day I can say I know what a winter wonderland is like. We got your blizzard, too, here in Virginia. It was so pretty coming down and quiet. Thanks for sharing all that lovely-ness.
Btw, I love the mug–especially the cherries on the handle and the bird, of course. Please do make that happen, it’s so, so cute.
    Stay warm and cozy!!

  73. Donna Bonine says:

I have to say, your “Autumn” book has so many wonderful painting, I love your leaves , apples, receipes in that book esp. In the winter I love re-reading your wonderful lovely heartwarmers ! Yes, mugs, and more rugs with other themes.

  74. Hi Susan!!
So excited to know that you will be at the Apple Farm in my favorite town, SLO!!
I hope that Jess and I will be able to make it, marking it on our calendar as we speak, a beautiful time of year there…well any time is beautiful there.
Enjoy your lovely winter!! Hope to see you in Spring.

  75. Clare's Gabby says:

MUG…MUG…MUG…that’s me chanting MUG. We NEED that. Pretty please. Ever the inspiration…the strand of colored lights I had over my back window at Christmas is going right back up. I missed it so when I took down Christmas. Merci and bless you. Hunker down and enjoy that snow! xoxo

  76. Joanne Lopez Hayden says:

Please put that beautiful mug you are creating on my “wish list,” and also a Jack pillow which would be another marvelous creation I would buy! I am in my jammies in sunny (for the time being) California where it’s been raining cats (no dogs) and planning my road trip to see you in SLO at the Apple Farm on March 18th. And thank you for the Holy Nativity nuns! You are magic Susan 🙂 Happy New Year!

  77. Deb from Michigan says:

    Good afternoon Susan,
For some reason I always invisioned your studio upstairs in your house.
I love the mug!! Personally I like a mug that has a totally smooth bottom, so it can set it on my coffee warmer while I read and it stays piping hot. Maybe it could be incorporated into your mug design.
There is nothing better in the winter when you live in the north country than a snow storm. Especially when you can hunker down and stay home. Relax and enjoy 🍷

  78. Annette says:

all in for mugs and plates and bowls and and and…. I would love them to use and to give to special friends. Thanks for a delightful window into your world.

  79. Martha Rodik says:

When I saw the news about the snowstorm “Helena” I think that was the name, I wondered if you were going to get it. My son lives in Atlanta, I’m in Ohio, where he grew up and he said they had ice on Friday, schools were closed & they were in a “state of emergency”. Today he has a wind chill factor to deal with. Up North we know how to deal with this weather.

Your commute to work and dress code sound wonderful!

  80. Laurie says:

    Hi Susan,
I look for your kitchenware on Ebay…the prototype mug looks great! Please pencil me in for a mug by you.
    Laurie

  81. Frances Durman says:

Hello sweetie….I love your blog…You should make the cups…I would buy some. I hope to get to visit Martha’s Vineyard this year. We got 5″ of snow here in Tennessee. It is so pretty to look at. I love your books and am so happy to call you my friend.
Happy New Year to you and your hubby. God Bless you!!!
    Your friend, Fran

  82. Connie says:

Susan, I’d by that mug in a heartbeat! Hope you decide to make it! Love your blog on this cold, ole, Winter Day! Thank You! Connie Rose

  83. Michele says:

I adore your posts, have purchased all your books since day one, bought them all for my bestest of friends.. to know me, that i love all of your art & words & books is to celebrate who I am and everyone loves that I share my interest, with them! Happy New Year to you & your cozy cast of characters!

  84. Andrea Jane says:

Sign me up for a mug or six!

  85. Kathy Wert says:

This is my first time posting a comment…I love your blog, your books, your calendars (can’t wait until the new comes out each year), love your monthly notepads (and I don’t allow my teenage children to use them so I never run short)…if you do create mugs, I will happily purchase! When my mom/wife/teacher life seems overwhelming, I enjoy reading your posts and viewing your beautiful pictures. I am thinking I need to create that winter banner and hanging it in my house! Thanks for the inspiration!

  86. Debbie P., Weedsport, NY says:

Hi, Sue, famous Hollywood movie inspirer. What a homey, peaceful feeling you gave us all with your blog! When I first read it last night, we had but a powdered-sugar coating of snow but by this morning, I, too, have that wonderful, stuck inside feeling. So, I did what comes natural and baked a chocolate-orange cake! I’ve been trying very hard to shed some pounds since the New Year and have been very successful so far. So today is my reward to myself…the yummy cake 🙂 Hopefully this doesn’t all backfire on me but I couldn’t resist. I’ll climb back on the wagon in the morning 🙂
    Love reading all the comments!
    xoDebbie

    • sbranch says:

Half of it is in the baking, the creativity of it . . . and after you’ve done that, what’s a girl to do?😊

  87. Jeannie hannon says:

Wow! Emma bridge water charges 30 dollars for postage and handling on one mug! Other options for buying?

  88. Kathiellen says:

🎶the north wind doth blow…and we shall have snow…but what will poor robin do then, poor thing….he’ll sit in the barn, and keep himself warm, and hide his head under his wing….poor thing🎶
    Dear Susan,
I am so glad that your weatherman was wrong! The snow that you got was beautiful and so were all of your pictures!! I LOVE the mug that you have created! Four seasons of them would be ablolutely adorable….with matching dessert plates!! Please put me on your list!! 😊 We only got about 2″ of snow…but my raggedy old bones feel like there is a blizzard out there!!! It is C O L D!!!😬
Oh Susan, I cannot thank you enough for introducing us to the Nuns at Holy Nativity Convent!! I received my beautiful etched tea light and 12 beeswax tea light refills yesterday. I ordered the lt. green etched with leaves and a Cross. I have inquired about a special order for a white votive candle holder, etched with BLESSED ARE THE PURE OF HEART, FOR THEY SHALL SEE GOD. ( my favorite Beautitude ) Today is their Christmas and Mother Pelagia told me that they will contact me this week. I am very excited about hearing from her! Thank you once again for opening this door for me! xo
I hope that You, Joe and Jack all stay snuggled up and cozy! Enjoy being “snowed in” looking at all of your pretty colored lights!!! They are so pretty!!

  89. Julie V. says:

Yes, please make mugs. The one above is perfect! Hope to see you in SLO in March!

  90. Yesterday here in Sydney Australia was extremely hot so I was grateful that I had entered an Ocean race. I do these to raise money for Cancer researchers. It’s way outside my comfort zone however I spent 20 minutes in the ocean where it was cool albeit a little rough so that felt very good especially finishing the race. I am telling you this because it is such a contrast to your world right now at Martha’s Vineyard, so different. I love snow and I can imagine just how fabulous it is for you to be working from home and then of course there is your work which is beautiful. Thankyou for sharing. You have your creaky ‘warm and huggable’ home and I have large windows looking out to the pretty sea and the sounds of cicadas that emphasise what Summer looks like for me.
    Cheers, Amanda Liddell

  91. Uelita says:

Mug? Did you mention Mug? Wouldn’t that be great for our tea. Hope it happens. Love the paper mug.
Stay cozy and see you in California

  92. Paulette says:

What a lovely post! Great idea to design your own mugs. I know I’ll buy some!💞💞

  93. Laura says:

Oh I hope you make your own mugs! I would love one ❤️

I so wish they would make a movie out of your stories, it would be such fun to see. I have recommended your trilogy to a group I belong to on Facebook called The Hygge Book.

Enjoy the snow, we here in Chicagoland haven’t had snow in over three weeks. Bitterly cold this week but no snow.

    Hugs & Blessings
    Laura

  94. Beth Barnat says:

    Hi Susan,

Thank you for this year’s calendar. It’s hanging before me as I type this. I just read your very cozy and warm blog. Thank you for that feeling. It’s cold and snowy where I live, too (Northern Indiana – do you ever get here?), so your blog was extra specially warm and cozy to enjoy.

You mentioned the squirrel and the bird feeder. I just had to share what I saw on Facebook the other day. Someone put a slinky on the pole that holds their bird feeder. When the squirrel climbs up, he get so the slinky and down he goes. It’s pretty funny and a brilliant idea!

Have a happy new year, as I’m sure you and Joe will, and may God richly bless you!

In the wonderful Grace of Jesus,
    Beth

    • sbranch says:

That’s so funny! I can just picture it! LOL! Our feeders hang, there’s no pole, plus our squirrels aren’t really pests, they don’t make pigs of themselves and so we get both squirrels and birds. But I love the slinky idea!!!

  95. Ginny Evans says:

Thanks for bringing the snow-day here to me in Texas (I’m your California to Canada toTexas friend, Ginny, and I am missing it, believe it or not). I felt transported: looking out the window at the birds, snow swirling and magical scenes!

Mugs-Yes, please. I love everything you do. Love that you are keeping the friend circle going and going and going! Happy New Year to you all 🙂

  96. Rosanne Murphy says:

Oh yes, please – Susan Branch mugs side-by-side with my Emmas! It would be fun for my kitty Bella and me to have morning coffee with Jack, or afternoon tea with a birdie, or your roses from the Summer Book. I loved hearing about your blizzardy morning with you cozy inside, creating for us. Love the delights of winter just as long as I can stay home, stay warm, read, knit. I just finished a cuddly little cowl out of the most delicious pale pink cashmere yarn. Ooh la la!

  97. Laura says:

Mugs….ah, yes please!! A corgi mug with the crown on you drew for the jubilee😍😍😍. How darling would that be? I think I would faint!!

  98. Carol Osborn says:

Mugs would be wonderful! That paper version was just darling also. I hope you do some real mugs, but how about doing a “paper version” also. You could do it in a format wherein it is printed on card stock, we cut out the pieces and glue them together and have our own very darling paper mug!!!!!

We are in the midst of a storm here in Oregon. First we had 8″ of snow and immediately thereafter a freezing rain storm so all that snow is now covered with thick ice. Of course the roads are not navigateable. So I have entertained myself with reading and some wonderful time in my sewing room. I know what you mean about that REFRIGERATOR. I keep going there, but nothing new appears.

    Dear Susan ~
Thank you for sharing your cozy blog. We too have had two major blizzards here in the Dakotas and it is only January. I probably am the only one in my household that loves winter. Things just seem to slow down a bit and I cherish the quiet, beautiful snow covering. May the “snowed in” setting continue to inspire you as you enjoy the comforts of working from home. I’m shopping for a new pair of jammies this week since more snow is forecast for our neck of the woods.
    Blessings your way,

The mug would be awesome. I would get one in a heart beat. I love your blog, books, calendars, etc. I do not comment often but want to let you know that I look forward to every word. As soon as I heard about the snow storm, I thought of you. Blessings ,
