It’s All Pure Logic!

Birdie reprieve!  No winner announcement today, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have some Musica! to go with the no winner — and we should celebrate because where there is no winner, there are no losers!  Making us, by process of elimination and pure logic, all winners!  In fact . . . might has well make it one more day for everyone to sign up for our drawing (scroll down for more info)!   Because I’m taking the day off!  In about a half hour I’m going with my girlfriends, Martha and Annie, to have “our colors done.” Later on another girlfriend, Enikö, is coming to tea!  It’s a red letter day!  The snow has all melted, the sky is blue, it’s a gorgeous day, and I get to go play!

I had my colors done once a long time ago, and found out I was a cross between a Spring and an Autumn.  It only confused me.  The only real thing I got from the experience is that I should wear lots of orange.  Not exactly helpful since, with me and orange, except as a watercolor, the twain does not meet.   But Lowely had hers done a few days ago and thinks the experience was “magic” and “life changing.”  Either way, I’m off with the girls and we’ll have fun!  I’ll let you know how it goes!  Have a wonderful day!  See you tomorrow!

I’m autumn, but can do spring. 🙂 Have fun getting colorized! A day out with girlfriends, how delightful.
Count me in for the cute birds S&P please.

  2. Pam says:

Good luck with the colours and enjoy your tea!

  3. Love the Kiki painting. She was (is!) a poster child for indefinite maximum fascination. Enjoy your day of colors.

  4. Have an awesome fun day…no matter what you do, doing it with girlfriends is the most fun! I love all colors and wear what my mood dictates, so grateful for color. 😀

  5. Susan Simon says:

    Hi, Susan and everyone!
Be sure to let us know what your colors are! It will be interesting to see how things compare. You will definitely have a grand time, and tea will be full of great conversation, laughter and friendship. Enjoy your day off.

Playing with COLORS is fun. Hope you have a great day.

  9. {oc cottage} says:

oh! too funny! i had mine done years ago too…
and as an Autumn i look simply FABULOUS,
in any color that looks as though it may have
    come from a baby’s diaper! not super-dee-
duper inspiring, that! so when i need to look
good…i wear ivory, all other times, i wear
whatever i want, including the feared
and dreaded PINK…then i FEEL good!
    You have a blast!!!!

    m ^..^

  10. jane says:

Every day I go to your blog immediately after I’ve looked at emails. You inspire me and lift my heart — you are always so upbeat and I feel in my deepest being that we are soul sisters! Thank you for loving us, all of your girlfriends, and giving us a little spark each day to hold in our hearts as we pass through each hour, through thick and thin!

  11. Addie Lynn Smith says:

I hope you have a fabulous time with your friends today!!

  12. Regina Brown says:

Have fun day!!! I had one last night! Went to used book store in our town hoping to find one of your books, and I did!!! Read it this morning with my cup of tea. Cant wait to try recipes.

  13. I love that quote! Being 40 for a “few” years now, I appreciate so much more!! I am curious to learn what season you are this time…I have never had my colors done before.
    Susan

  14. Jacqui G says:

  15. Cathy McC. says:

Oh my, another day to sit and dream about the tweetie birds! Hope your color reading went well — would love to hear some details about how it’s done! Sounds like a great day to be out with friends!

  16. Jennie says:

    Have a lovely time, Susan!
And by the way, we have all been biting into heaven as we enjoy that ‘hot milk cake’ with THE SAUCE- oh, baby! A big ‘thank you!’ to you for that recipe from all our tummies!

  17. Linda Pintarell says:

First time I have been first to make a comment! And that comment is…HAVE FUN WITH YOUR GIRLFRIENDS; ENJOY THE DAY! Actually I’m off to Palm Springs (from San Diego) to join GIRLFRIENDS for a concert of violinist JOSHUA BELL. Can’t wait!

  18. Mary Pacey says:

I agree that sometimes the colors “best” for you really are colors you would always refuse to wear because of your dislike to the color in general. If it wasn’t for Halloween, I’d never have any orange in my life. (Although I taught at a school whose colors were orange and black!!!) I am getting better about allowing the colors I don’t really like appear in some of my quilts. Is it my age letting go of my dislikes or my eyesight dimming?

  19. Country Gal says:

Oh sounds like a fun time ! Will look for a post on what seasonal colour you are ! Have a wonderful day !

  20. Francine says:

Always a fun day when you’re spending it with girlfriends! Will be anxious to hear all about your color experience! Enjoy!

  21. Sandy Richmond says:

Oh, enjoy your day! It sounds like fun. I had my colors done years ago, and I do get compliments when I wear “my colors”, so I think there is something to it..
Loved Jack and Girl Kitty sitting close, but back to back. For those of us that know cat language, we know they still have a way to go, but that was progress!

  22. Sue Wyvel says:

The importance of girlfriends is beyond measure. I have been nurtured, loved, blanketed in wisdom, and trusted to be the keeper of fears, hopes and dreams. I love who we have become.

  23. Karen says:

I had mine done one time by a Mary Kay representative and she determined that I was a Winter. I am pale, have dark brown hair and dark green eyes. I thought that winters have blue eyes. Oh well, I’ve been told that the color recommendations work on me, so I guess I *am* a winter. Good luck finding your “color”. Oh, and have a blast with those girlfriends. I don’t know what I’d do without mine!
I can’t believe all that snow has already melted! I just wish we’d get some. :o)

  24. Heartsdesire says:

Have a wonderful day, Susan. I think we’ve probably all had our colours done at one time or another (I’m a spring, but I like autumn colours) and how fun for you to be going with your girlfriends. Lots of laughs I’m sure. See you tomorrow.

  25. Rae Ann Roche says:

Have fun Susan…I had my colors done years and years ago…I was a “winter”…I was told to wear colors from an eight pack of crayons…the only thing is~my hair has been “colored” so many times I don’t know if I am a winter anymore!!!…haven’t heard of anyone doing colors in this tiny town in MN…can’t wait if you are still between a spring and an autumn…the snow is still on the ground here…the powers that be are saying freezing rain this afternoon…

  26. Priscilla from Naples, Florida says:

Have a wonderfully happy and colorfully fun day! 🙂
PS. I’m a cross between Spring and Autumn too. Although Autumn is my favorite season of the year (as far as the colors go) so I wear lots of browns and greens with a smidgeon of orange.

    • Doreen Strain says:

Priscilla, I’m from your neck of the woods. I live in the Wesley Chapel, Zephyrhills area of Florida. Nice to see one of the “girlfriends” here just a little closer than Martha’s Vineyard. FOSB 4~Ever! ~ Doreen ~

  27. Connie B says:

It’s great to take time to pamper yourself. So many of us are doing for others we forget about the most important person-you. Enjoy !!!

    • Doreen Strain says:

Oh Connie, I could not agree with you more. I think as women, we have a tendency to care for others and put our needs on the back burner for awhile. FOSB 4~Ever! ~ Doreen ~

  28. Amy says:

Have fun with the girls! Tea sounds delightful! Warm Blessings!~Amy

  29. Diane Byrum says:

  32. Colleen says:

Have a great day with your Girlfriends!!

  33. Joan Lesmeister says:

HA! We’re all winners! I had my colors done a thousand (?) moons ago & I’m a Summer…I do agree, most days! Some days I really need to be a Spring, or maybe an Autumn, and why not a Winter?! I loved watching the color choices draped on my friends, and wow, there really is a difference! Have a really, really, fun day ladies! And, tea, too! Definitely a red letter day! xo

  34. CarolK says:

I had my colors done once and was told exactly what I knew. I’m an Autumn. I love the colors of Autumn, the smells of Autumn, the warm days and cool nights, the falling leaves, everything…. Have a fun day. It’s always a fun day when one gets together with girlfriends.

  35. Joan Bendann says:

What a joy to read your blog everyday! It does make me happy enough to “clap my hands.” The birds remind me of s & p shakers my Aunt Margaret would have; she was the first person to spark my love of nature. We had a nature program at my school today with a most beautiful rescued barred owl. Thank you for sharing your creativity with us.

  36. CindyK says:

A day off! Good for you! When we do our work, and then have special days off, just for us, it makes them all the more special! I’m not quite sure what it means to have your “colors done”, but I’m sure looking forward to hearing all about it! Anything with the word “color” in it is sure to be fun!

  37. Betsy says:

Good for you! A day with our girls inspires us. I see you as a every color of the rainbow kind of girl, not one color but all. You paint, you draw, you garden. One needs all colors to do that!

  38. Susan Havey says:

Have fun Susan! I learned a long time ago that having my colors done taught me how to “feel better” with certain colors. We will be anxious to hear what you learn from you outing with the girls.

  39. Pat Tingwall says:

I had my “colors” done many years ago…I still have the small paper color swatches I was given and refer to them from time to time. I find them helpful! I am a “true autumn”. Have a wonderful girl day with your beautiful day!

  40. Diane says:

Susan, have a wonderful day! It sounds like you are in for a lot of fun! I had a family member who was into doing colors for herself and everyone around her, and it was pretty fun….until I learned that a particular shade of green that I adore wasnt meant to EVER come near my skin tone! lol. I still wear it today because I love it, and that is that! lol. Have a yummy tea!

  41. Carol Maurer says:

Oh, Susan…. have the time of your life by getting your colors done! AND tea in the afternoon! You can’t beat that. My tea group (there are 6 of us) is meeting today at the tea house. One of the girls in the group owns the tea house. She just spoils us to death 🙂

I’m a winter. My complextion likes oranges and reds. But, I like the summer colors as well….. just can’t wear yellow though. Makes my skin turn yellow.

    Have a great day,
    Carol

  42. Laurie Walt says:

Hope you girls have a blast! I know you will!!!!!

  43. M.E. Dugosh says:

Susan, I have followed your art work for a long time and was so excited when I found your blog. I have a wonderful collection of dishes also..nothing matching just odds and ends ;-/ Love your bird salt and pepper shakers and would love to have them join my other pieces. Keep it up girl friend…M.E. Dugosh

  44. Pamela Jewett says:

    Hi Susan,

I burst out laughing at the Christian Dior quote. So true!
    Have fun with your day.
    xoxo Pam

  45. Shelley Bresett says:

Good for you Susan for taking the day off! We all need to just go and have some fun with our girlfriends and not worry about work, children, chores or anything else that can wait. Have a grand day! 🙂 xo
    Shelley

  46. D Sorenson says:

Have a fun day, Susan! Nature is full of color and we all fit in somewhere, we just have to get out and experience it! Enjoy, girlfriends!!

  47. pat addison says:

good morning susan, hello everyone. how fun to have your colors done, i’m an autumn so i wear warm colors, seems logical as autumn is my favorite time of year. have a fun day with your girlfriends, i have to go clean out the henhouse and put in fresh straw…the smell in there thanks to the wet weather is horrible, makes one’s eyes water…blyuk!!! have a great day, first have a pot of lentil soup simmering on the stove for dinner tonight, then clean out the henhouse and clean up the yard debris from the storms. have fun everyone!! hugs…… 🙂

  48. Sharon - Ohio says:

That sounds like a lot fun having your colors done. I would be confusing since I wear a lot of black. lol I work with fabrics all day and alway tend to gravitate towards muddy colors. Wonder what that says about me. Have fun, want to hear all about it.

  49. Mary Lou says:

Have a fun day. I had my colors done a long time ago, but still go with my favorites. Your life is always changed, for the better, when you spend a day with girlfriends 🙂

  50. debbie says:

Have a wonderful “red letter ” day Susan! And really. ORANGE? 🙂

  51. Peggy Cooper says:

Have a great time! Nothing like a girlie day. And I’m sure you’ll have some great snackages (a word my daughter made up for snacks you have during fun events) with your tea :o)

  52. Lynn McMahon says:

    Good Morning~
Silly me! I thought you were getting your hair dyed! Not that you or any of us girlfriends need it! I had a book many years ago that let you do a personal color chart for yourself~
    I too am confused~ I like(d) all 4 seasons and don’t know where I fit in ~so I’ll just be a ” girl for all seasons”~ and for the right jewelry~ gold or silver~ I don’t care ~

  53. JoEllen says:

Clapping my hands! Cuz u made me even happier than I had decided to be anyway! Any activity done w color and girlfriends has to be uplifting. I predict giggles up ahead! ooxoxoxx

  54. judi says:

Good luck on your “color” fun with friends. The little s & p birdies are very sweet and would look charming on my table;)

  55. Christy says:

    Susan,

Have fun getting your colors done today with your girlfriends! I had mine done years and years ago and was undoubtedly an autumn…which, since it is my favorite season I was quite satisfied with the “diagnosis”, ha ha! However, just as it was with you and your orange, I was told that I should stock up on royal purple…which, for a quiet girl like me, the color woman might as well have told me that shining, sparkling gold was my magic color…wearing royal purple was just never going to happen! 🙂 Enjoy your beautiful day! Christy

  56. Susie Stevens says:

I wrote Nana Diana to see if I should comment on your site. I never have seen anyone with that many comments..I get tickled if I get 4….LOL. I love your postings of Martha’s vineyard. I have visited the island only once. I was amazed by the hugh trucks buses getting off the ferry. But one day I want to go back there. I truly was in awe of the whole experience. Smiles to you, Susie of shejunks

  57. Wow….having your colors done….sounds interesting and fun. Sounds like you are getting all dolled up for your NY trip, and I hope you and your girls have a wonderful day full of fun and great conversation.

  58. Nancy says:

I love the birdies! Hope you have a fun day out!

  59. Linda in Texas says:

Oooh, I’m first. How fun is that? Have a wonderful day. Sounds like so much fun having your colors done with girlfriends. I predict lots of laughter.

By the way, I made the Hot Milk Cake last night and we loved it. The recipe is definitely a keeper. I love a little plain cake. And I felt so domestic while stirring it up on a rainy evening.

Thanks for declaring us all winners today. I love your logic.

    See you later.

    • Linda in Texas says:

Well, I thought I was first. Guess I was wrong. Oh well. I’m still a winner–cause you said so. lol.

  60. Shirley says:

Oh, I hope you have a good time. I used to do color consultations, and the warm tones were always the hardest to classify. We used silver or gold lame’ to determine “cool” or “warm” colors. Then you decided the intensity of the colors, which told you if a person was Spring, Winter, Summer, or Autumn. Can’t wait to hear what they tell you today!

  61. Kimi says:

    Susan

Everyone needs a day off and so do you! We should enjoy life more and when we do it fills our heart! then we can’t complain…xo

  62. dottie says:

Have a wonderful time! “Having one’s colors done” must be in vogue once more. I, too, had mine done long ago but unlike your earlier experience, I found the results fairly accurate I am a winter with bits of another season long forgotten — the only thing that didn’t fit was the recommendation of icy pastels — which are not at all on my radar. But it’s just an enjoyable and interesting thing to play with — and tea later — perfect day!

  63. Oh, how I love the pretty little green birdies! They could SING in my kitchen for sure!
    V

  64. mika price says:

So surprised by the orange Susan! I had my colors done years ago too and we seem to be of the same hair and skin tones….they said I was a “winter” so definitely NO oranges. Reds yes, but w/o orange hues. So reds, royal blue and primary colors and bright white! Good luck today!

  65. Margaret says:

Have a fun girlfriends day!! I agree with orange, not my favorite either. Did you see that the color of the year is Tango Tangerine? I guess there will be a lot of orange things around this year!

  66. Nancy Brown says:

    Have a wonderful day!

  67. Karen D says:

Hope it goes well… I didn’t know that was still being talked about. My mom got excited about it a long time ago, so I did it and just like you I was a mix (typical… never one to be easily categorized). Mine was summer/winter, but really I just wear whatever color I like and feel good in.
Actually, when you said you were getting “your colors done”, I naturally thought you meant your hair! LOL!

  68. Diana says:

Oh, enjoy the day with your friends!!! What an exciting thing to be able to get together with loved ones and act all “girlie”!! LOL… Living in the house of “Testosterone” (hubs and three sons)… I was ALWAYS up for a girl get-away!! Enjoy and be happy! Clap.. Clap!!

  69. Martha Ellen says:

When you said you were having your colors done, I thought you were referring to hair color! LOL I guessed wrong! I remember when I read the book Color Me Beautiful, I was a winter. It does make a difference to wear more flattering colors close to the face. Hope you enjoy your day out with your friends! ♥

  70. Have fun! It really does sound like a perfect girl getaway! ♥

  71. Barb says:

    Hi, Susan
Sounds like you’re all going to have a fun day today! I’ve never had my colors done but I remember a sewing teacher in high school (along, long time ago) looked at each of us and told us what colors she thought we’d look good in. My colors were red and royal blue. I tend to like red better than blue, but my favorite color is green in just about any shade. My daughter yells at me for buying green every time I buy a new sweater or tee.
Thanks for the wonderful website you have created; I look forward to each new blog entry every couple days. You are so talented!

  72. Patricia says:

I’ve never had my colors done…I’m curious as to what they’d say! Enjoy your day- sounds fun!!

  73. Judy says:

How fun! I had my colors done many years ago and I was a summer. I didn’t know people were still having that done.

  74. Mary S. says:

Have a wonderful, fun day with your friends! Sounds like so much fun! I have never had my colors done 🙂

  75. Nina says:

ooo Susan that sounds like fun! Enjoy and let us know how it goes! xx

  76. Kathy Phenix says:

Good luck with your colors. I had it done years ago also and can’t even remember what they told me. Am I old or what??!! I do know that I get lots of compliments when I wear red. So I wear a lot of red! Simple, right? My favorite color in life is light blue but I don’t look great in that. So it’s red and deep bright blue for me.
    Love, Kathy

  77. Jeanette says:

Susan, Having your colors done sounds very interesting, I’ve heard gals talk about it for quite sometime. I’m looking forward to hearing the “real deal” from you in another post. I know what colors I like to wear and what color invokes the most compliments and that’s about as far as I’ve gone. Enjoy your cuppa this afternoon with the girls and have wonderful day off! Hugs to you ~ Jeanette

  78. Marie Morris says:

I love your blog! It’s fun to see winter because where I live here in California we don’t get snow that often! Such a delight that you share with us. Kitty’s look happy together. The salt and peppers are so special too. Thank you for shareing.

  79. Ann says:

You’re bringing back memories from the early 80’s. I think I was a spring–blues and purples. My fav colors anyway. Enjoy your fun day!

  80. pat addison says:

good morning susan, hello everyone, well i can see my first post was either eaten or lost so here it goes again. i had my colors done, i was an autumn..makes good sense to me as i love the autumn, its my favorite time of the year. hope you have a fun day with your girlfriends today, i have to get busy and get the yard cleaned up and remove the degris left by the rainstorms and wind, and i have to clean out the hen house and shovel it out, the odor in there can just about knock you out, makes my eyes water its so bad in there. the rain didn’t help as my hubby did not want to clean out the henhouse in the rain, can’t really blame him, but rain or not today it gets cleaned out..wish me luck!!! have a great day everyone. hugs……. 🙂

  81. Sara says:

I like that we are all winners today! Hooray for us! Have fun with your colors and tea time 🙂

  82. Judy Tracy says:

“Doing your colors” often helps explains choices and thoughts you have had for quite awhile. But having met you I would have guessed you were more of a Winter. But then I didn’t look closely at your skin tone……..more pink based or more yellow based? Winter and summers are more pink and Spring and Autumns are more yellow based. When someone colors their hair like Katie Couric it confuses the issue, but I think she is still a Winter. But for me it helped explain why I liked these fresh and clean and clear looking colors on a regular basis. It also explained why some people didn’t like the gift someone gave them that were the giver’s colors and not the receiver’s colors.
Spending the day with the girls is great:>) Several of us went to the Road to California Quilt Show last Friday and looked for your booth…..no booth:<( Another time, but there were gorgeous quilts, a feast for the soul.
Have a happy day. Judy Tracy

  83. Lori says:

I know what color I am – pink. Tickled pink that you give us a fun blog and the opportunity for everyone to win the birds. : ) I’m clapping my hands …

  84. Karen Saunders says:

If I could be a color it would be purple!….and pink. Anyway…I like to wear what color I like and I don’t want anyone telling me what I can or can’t wear. But the day with the gals sounds SOO FUN!!!. Have a great day Susan, enjoy your friends.

  85. Lucille says:

I hope you have lots of fun with your girlfriends today! Everyone needs a play day now & then……..

  86. We’ll be excited to hear all about getting your colors done!

  87. Lynn says:

Not sure about the whole “colors done” thing. I had mine done severla years ago. I am a brunette with brown eyes and olive skin. They told me I am a WINTER! I should not wear gold, just silver or white gold jewelry, especially near my face. I wish I had known that when I got married as I picked out a yellow gold setting for my rings. Oh well. Have fun. The time with girlfriends is what is most important anyway.

  88. Nicki Anderson says:

Have a great day, and I know that you will.

  89. Susan Cohen says:

I found out that I am a winter and I think it’s really true. Black, red, stark white, clear blues are colors that I love and wear all the time.

  90. Nancy says:

    Have fun! 😉

  91. Amy D. says:

I have always been more confused after attempting to know which color personality I am. I seem to be a mix between Spring, Summer, and even Winter, but not Autumn. Sounds like a fun day! Can’t wait to hear what you find out.

  92. Trace says:

    Nothing like Girlfriends!!
    Hugs & JOY
    Trace

  93. Patricia from Philly says:

    Hi Susan and Hi Eniko!
Eniko, just remember: stay away from bobeches! Haha!

    Enjoy your day!

Message to EM: I received a reply from Waverly re Susan’s chair fabric. They said “it is too old and they cannot identify it”. Glad I’M NOT a fabric! Geez!
You’d think they’d have a fabric library or archive for these things! So sorry I was not successful!

  94. Lorraine says:

I’m fairly new to your website – but I’m LOVING IT. Thanks for putting so much homespun sparkle in everyday life.

  95. Connie B says:

I’m a Spring and LOOOOOVE it! Peach, apricot, salmon, coral, and peachy pinks are beautiful for a spring season.

Aqua and clear turquoise are extremely flattering for you as well as periwinkle blue, light true blue

Light to medium violet are vibrant on you, if you choose a periwinkle shade of blue which has more violet in it rather than a pale powder blue, it is much more vibrant on you.

Any light orange, bright coral, and orange-red look good, choose clear reds but not those that have a blue undertone.

    Joyeaux Printemps! (Happy Spring)

  96. Kathy Oliberos says:

I have been trying to find your full size 2012 calender for over a month. Do you have any idea where I might be able to pick one up? (Other than Amazon.com or ebay at $100-250 ea.). My daughter has bought me one every Christmas for years but this year she was in Hawaii and forgot. There is no other calender that can come close to yours. Thank you so much!

    • sbranch says:

For the first time in our history we ran out of calendars and so did everyone else! On my Facebook page people talk about finding them here and there, in grocery stores it sounds like . . . but I have no idea myself. I’m shocked at what they’re asking on Amazon! I’m so sorry! I wish I could help you!!

      • Kathy Oliberos says:

Thank you for replying. I will continue to look. In the mean time I have on order at a local book store the smaller calender. It has not arrived yet so I am keeping my fingers crossed. I also wanted to let you know I just received a large box on my porch with the many special items I ordered from you. I felt it was like Christmas again opening each piece. They were so nicely wrapped in tissue with a small sticker where the ends met. Sooooooooo much fun!

  97. Jeanne says:

I have not known about you very long but I love, love, love your blog. I was unable to figure out how to sign up for the drawing before today but I think I have it figured out now. You are so much fun to read and I thoroughly enjoy everything. I have always loved Peter Rabbit and I am a quilter so I love looking at your quilts. I will be waiting to see how your colors went.
    Until tomorrow…Jeanne

  98. JudyCinNC says:

I am betting you will love knowing and be surprised … When I was a Beauticontrol consultant, I loved “the colors” the best – supplying all kinds of lotions, potions and makeup for those warm and cool complextions just did not offer me enough challenge, besides I do not have a sales personality/mentality. Determining what your best colors were was the fun part for me and so true and telling – maybe orange was not your color, but I bet you could wear coral with the best of them. I hope you will share more … I love that you are pampering yourself today, everyone should do that more often. Judy C

Thank you for all the wonderful Blogs. I could go on and on about how wonderful a person I think you are, because you are, and I could praise your talents, which are numerous, and I could tell you how much we have in common, because we do! But, I’m not going to–likely you always hear that stuff from your numerous fans–I will say that I love the “little visits” from you that appear in my email inbox, and say that hearing from you is right up there with “visits” from my real-life sisters. I’m very happy to be one of your “Girlfriends” ! I thank you for making the world a better place, and bringing joy and beauty to so many people.
One more thing–I finally figured out how to leave a comment!! Woohoo! Have a blessed day.

    Hi Susan
How fun to have your Colors done! when I first read it I thought you meant you were going to have your hair color done 🙂 funny right.
I love Orange, but don’t seem to wear it ever. Have fun with your color and your tea. And yes it is so beautiful out today, enjoy your fun day
