Just a little Valentine mood MUSICA for some of my very favorite people . . . ♥
Yesterday most of our snow had melted, the grass was green, and I was having little pangs of Spring Fever . . . and today, as the sun began to come up, I looked outside to one of the prettiest snowstorms I’ve seen in a long time.
Just a beautiful day on the island. My girlfriend Margot called at 6am to say, “You have to go look at the sunrise!” One look and I burrowed right back into winter . . .
And now, the wind is blowing clumps of snow off roofs and trees and making it look like it’s snowing, but it’s not.
It’s just adding to the romance of an already romantic day…
As does this . . .
It’s the feet I love the most.
I took Joe his breakfast a while ago. His Valentine’s present.
I made it in a cookie cutter.
Happy Valentine’s Day Girlfriends! I hope you’ve all received your Valentine Willards! Just as you read, we’re having a drawing for a pre-publication copy of my new book A FINE ROMANCE!
To be entered, just leave a comment (click on the tiny grey word “comments” just under this post). Sometime after the 20th, Vanna, our resident chooser-in-chief, will pick the winning name! When the book comes in, I’ll sign it and send it to the lucky winner. Until then, especially for today, I’m sending you virtual chocolate kisses and red roses and hope (sweetheart or no sweetheart, no one needs a sweetheart to celebrate Valentine’s Day) that your day includes something special just for you. xoxo Make all your Valentine dreams come true no matter what and be your own darling sweetheart! Love you, THANK YOU! I’m thrilled about the book, you just have to know … yesterday, I wrote the ending and I made myself cry! Thank you for joining me on this book-writing adventure! xoxo P.S. Just in case you need it, you can view WILLARD here!
I’m new to your “world” and what a beautiful one it is. Your artwork is so sweet and simple – makes me want to read your words over and over.
As a fellow Massachusetts resident I enjoying seeing the difference in weather from here to there. One day I hope to visit Martha’s Vineyard. Lived here almost 29 years and haven’t been. I love your drawings. I also love Jack!
I can scarcely contain myself. Must I wait so long for “A Fine Romance”? I want to relive my England years (71-74) through your lovely diary/book. As a young (extremely young!) bride, I lived in fairytaleland. The scenery so incredible, and memories so dear. I learned to drive a American made VW lefthand drive stick shift on the lefthand side of the road. Now that was an adventure! To win your book would be devine, but since I’m not the lucky type, I’ve preordered mine. If I should be so lucky to win one, I would share with my darling daughter. Her fondest childhood memories are of her nightly storytime of one of the Beatrix Potter’s books. Ah, sweet memories!
Thank you for the chance to win a copy of your new book Susan ♥
Have a wonderful weekend.
Oh, thank you for the lovely Valentine’s Day blog. (I especially love the kitty paws – there is something so sweet about them.) It is always a happy day when I read your blog. Your new book looks delightful and I can’t wait to read it. 🙂
Always a treat to see your words and watercolors. “A Fine Romance” is one of my favorite songs, also a sweet, if silly little Brit com from the ’70’s starring a very young Judy Dench! I’d love it if I won the autographed copy, but I’ll be treating myself to it if I don’t.
Hi Susan! I received my Willard and enjoyed reading every word of it. It was like taking a mini vacation. I also read the blog and loved the story of you and Joe. I thought it was ironic and had to tell you some of my Valentines Day. I have been down with my back and have had chronic back pain for 3 yrs. (I am waiting on the go ahead for surgery) I have been “resting” alot and it is hard, boring, and sometimes depressing..especially when my little daughter wants to play. So we stay in alot and I look forward to good day. I said all that to say this….my Valentines wish was to go to the antique – flea market stores and fabric stores. My husband gave me money instead of roses…etc. and I couldn’t have been happier. I found some great “treasures”. The best one was one of your cookbooks!!!!!!!!! It is VINEYARD SEASONS..MORE FROM THE HEART OF THE HOME. I am devouring it and can’t wait to cook from it.
I thought this was one of those quirky coincidences since it was purchased on Valentines Day. Love love love your talent and craft. Never stop!
Susan, I can’t wait to read your new book! I loved reading the Willard too.
Happy “belated” Valentine’s Day to all the cyber friends, and to you, Susan, for gathering us into the folds of your everyday life, thank you.
After a long day of errands errands and more errands I remembered before I left home, I had printed out Willard! After a frazzled day I went upstairs , pulled the covers up and started to read every delightful page. I can not wait for the book to arrive, it will be a great autumn read! A great book for my favorite season! Hope you are staying warm, it is very cold here in northern Illinois! Have a houseload of company on the way my daughter of 23 years will be leaving the nest to teach English in South Korea, I told her to keep a diary of all of her experiences! So I will need all those beautiful pictures and uplifting quotes on your blog to put a smile on my face! Thanks so much!
A friend introduced me to your blog. We discuss it with every new post! Your very inspiring. Your blog is so joyful! Congrats to the lucky winner, and especially congrats to the completion of your new book. I know you can’t possibly answer all the emails…but I wonder, are you naturally a morning person? If I do win, could you put a dash of morning person mix, in the envelope as well… I would so love to be one. 🙂
I preordered a copy of your book and I cannot wait to see it! It will give me a little something to look forward to this fall. Thanks so much for all your thoughtful words and beautiful artistry. Your creativity and zest for life are inspiring and infectious. Thank you! : )
“A FINE ROMANCE”….CAN’T WAIT! THANK YOU, SUSAN…..
Love reading your blog and Willard. Look forward to it all the time. The pictures of the snow are beautiful and remind me of winters growing up in New Jersey. I do love my winters out here in Northern California with oranges and lemons on the trees, plenty of sunshine and some rainy days mixed in. Would love to receive one of your books and I am looking forward to reading it.
Looks like you had a lovely valentine’s day, I shared my day with my 4 year old kindergartners, so fun to see their excitement on this their first school valentine’s day….they passed out their valentines to their classmates with such delight. I have loved hearing about your book and can’t wait to read it.
congratulations on the finishing of A Fine Romance, I am for sure going to order this book, I love it already! All your love of England makes me think of my wonderful mother who was English and also of visiting my granny and grandad when I was little (before we immigrated to America), It all just gives me a warm nostaligic feeling inside for England. I may not manage to go again, but this book of yours certainly takes me there in my imagination, so – Thankyou for writing this really lovely book!- I don’t always comment but I do keep up reading your blog and do so enjoy each and every one of them. You are so kind and attentive to all your fans (girlfriends), it is so sweet and amazing really. Bye,bye
dear Susan~just reading your beautiful Valentine blog today~I love how you share all that you love with all of us ‘out here.’ Especially love your cats’ shenanigans~living in upstate NY (way upstate on Lake Ontario), we’ve had our share of snow this winter~I share your feelings about how magical it can be~keep your newsy posts, photos, ideas coming~and yes, I will be making some eggs in a heart-shaped cookie cutter~AND I have already pre-ordered two copies of your new book…can’t wait~stay warm in New England…sounds like there may be another storm nearby you this weekend~but, I know you are ALWAYS prepared with wood for the fire, candles and cozy kitties!
Dear Susan, This year, to mend my tired heart, i read my favorite issues of Romantic Homes and Victoria magzines. I rediscovered you in Feb.2012 Romantic Homes! Your art & prose gave me peace . Of course, your chocolate truffle recipe also helped! Thank you!
LOL Donna, I’m so sorry about your heart, I hope its getting better, I love that the chocolate truffles are helping!
Susan, I just love reading your blog postings – thank you so much for sharing your life with all of us. I’ve been collecting your books since I first found “Heart of the Home” on Martha’s Vineyard in the late ’80s, and I can’t wait to curl up by the fire and relive your England trip page by page.
Oh my goodness…I absolutely love the pics of your snowy yard!!So beautiful. I would be so lucky to win a copy of your new book!
Your art is soooo inspiring to me. I can’t wait for your new book to come out. I’ve been to England several times, ( i also had a thing for English accents), but I can’t wait to see it through your eyes.
I have long been a fan of your art and have several of your books. I enjoy your blog very much and really enjoyed that you shared your trip.
Can hardly wait for the book.
What a fantastic read to begin my weekend! Your beautiful talent is so inspiring. Ahh, to experience England the way you & Joe did. 🙂 One. Sweet. Day.
Happy sweet & special day! Whether I win or buy your book, I am so excited :)!
What a fun idea…to make heart eggs. Yum! Happy Valentines and Happy Belated Anniversary. I know you will appreciate my Valentine’s gift. Last night my husband said ck out the garage and we were going out for Chinese. I said I’ll check it after dinner. He came back in from the garage, where he has been cleaning and getting rid of junk (plus the possum that was sleeping in there lol). I finally went to look and wala…He had painted the pegboard wall white and the shelf/table under it. Then he said we’ll go and get a bar stool for me to sit on. On the right side of the pegboard he wrote “Katharine’s Craft Corner”. I was so happy that I had tears in my eyes. 🙂 I’ve been taking stuff out there last night and today.
Oh, Kat, what a grand story from Valentine’s Day! A place of your own made by the man who loves you tons! I read your entry and could just close my eyes and imagine you working there with a huge smile on your face. Have fun!! XXOO Pat
Love your newsletters, always a thrill to read, my daughter: grown with children, and I love your watercolors and stories. Everyone needs romance and to dream and enjoy the suprises around us which you share in a delightful way. Would love to receive your book, and maybe someday visit England also, have a special seaglass friend in England. Thank you for sharing your talents.
Lucy
I’ve always wanted to go to England. It is so cozy and quaint. And I know you will present it in a cozy quaint way. I will get your book one way or another and spend lots of time absorbing every page. You are a delight!
I was secretly savoring your blogs and Willards as you travled through England knowing that I would be there 6 weeks later. We could have passed each other on your last week there! We went the exact opposite direction around the country but we hit all the same places. It was beautiful, heavenly really & I curiously felt like I was ‘home’ there. Then we came home to Santa Cruz, CA. and discovered we lost our SD cards – NO!! Only our memories left, no pictures. Needless to say, anxiously awaiting your precious book to see Hill Top, lambs, swans and quaint villages again.
Thank-you for my daily dose of happiness; I needed that!
Oh the love! Oh the ♥ egg! Oh the handsome couple! Oh the kitty paws! Oh the fabulous Willard! Oh the book! Oh Oh Oh! I’m Oh-verwhelmed! So exciting!
Love, Carol
Just love your posts…..they always cheer me up! I would love to win your new book!
No words can express how much I love your website and how it always seems to fill the emptiness in my heart- maybe it’s a suggestion to look outside, or to snuggle with my cat, or to truly relax and enjoy a cup of tea. I’ve been receiving your Willards since they began, and I still look forward to receiving them. The website, however, provides that something extra- a little Musica, the sound of birds. It always reminds me to take pleasure in the simple things, and it ALWAYS brings a smile to my lips. I keep telling my friends about your website and your fan club is steadily growing here in my hometown.
I too can not wait until your new book is published. I have all of the others including a signed copy of Baby Love- hoping that I will be a grandmother someday
* Hello Susan *
Yes! Please do enter me in your brand-new drawing for a special
pre-publication copy of “A Fine Romance”.
“A Fine Romance”…Falling in Love with the English Countryside.
You said you just wrote the ending and made yourself cry. They must have been very happy tears with a little bit of bittersweet tears mixed in too. You put your heart and soul into each and every page. You did it, Susan! Rejoice and
Congratulations to you!
Thank you for inviting me…all of us Girlfriends…on your amazing book-writing adventure. It’s a beautiful book. I love the cover and all of the delightful sample pages you shared with us in Williard.
I will be pre-ordering the book and then anxiously await its release to read, to enjoy and once more re-visit the charm that is England!
* Congratulations again from Dorothy Ann on Cougar Mountain, Washington *
I am so hoping for “the” special book but will be ordering no matter what happens! Willard brought great and exciting news….thank you.

I feel it Georgie, it’s making me giddy! 🙂
* Hi again, Susan *
Sorry about the ‘double-post”…I don’t know what happened, (little laptop gremlins?), but my first comment was deleted when I clicked “post comment”.
So, then I did another post and now there’s two! I know, I know…only one post will count in the drawing. I must really want 2 chances to be the winner!
Can you blame me?
* Dorothy Ann on Cougar Mountain, Washington *
The gremlins have been very busy, sometimes they are even kicking my replies off, oh well, I’m starting to feel comfortable with them!
Good morning, 6:08am and i am sitting here reading and enjoying each and every word….every picture and every quote as always! Can’t wait for the book to come out sounds like a perfect gift for my special friends for Christmas!!!!! All our snow was melted yesterday and my mind went to pulling out the “dock” furniture. I looked out the sliding glass door in my bedroom this morning and everything is white with snow again…….looks like the “dock” will have to wait!
Congratulations on finishing – can’t wait and would love to win it ! Just watched The Enchanted Cottage last night and the cottage reminded me of all your photos of England. How cozy! Have a great weekend and enjoy the feeling of finishing your book. I can’t imagine the work and talent involved. I wrote a letter to Redbook Magazine and it appears in this month’s issue…I am over the moon – can’t even think how thrilled YOU must be with all your great books and this new one on the way. Thanks for the chance to win one !
I love that movie. Mostly because, as usual, the cottage! Congratulations on your letter in Redbook, that’s such a nice compliment!
Thank you…and thank you to whatever elves got my Heart Shaped Muffin Pan here in time for Valentine’s Day ! It arrived SO quickly, I am seasoning it today and going to try the tea biscuit recipe. It looks so cute just propped up on my kitchen counter.
Thanks so much for your updates on your snowstorm and the book! Can’t wait for it to come out!
please count me in too! glad you had such a romantic Valentines day!
Azaleas are in bloom in SE Alabama Thanks for sharing your talents. Looking forward to the completed project.
Feeling lucky: I have a 1 in 1,439th chance of winning 🙂
(at least now I do).

LOL!
Thank you for all of the lovely pictures! I am so excited about your new book! Willard was a wonderful read and I adore the sweet bookmark! Hip Hip Hooray for you, your hard work is paying off! XOXO Sweet Sue!
I’ve been traveling with you via your blog (fun!) and would love a preview copy of your book~ it sounds and looks lovely!!!! I hope to travel there soon!! S.
Tried the cookie cutter egg idea. I think it was too big, the egg didn’t fill all the spaces. I will try a smaller one next time. Enjoyed Willard very much. Thank you for a wonderful time at the computer.
Good Chilly Morning Susan!
I loved the Valentine’s Willard and I have them all saved in a special folder in my gmail to re-read and enjoy. Sharing your life, your home, your pets and all of your creativity and beauty is such a blessed gift. I truly love it all. Your calendars are on my wall at home and work, I have all your books and I truly cannot wait until the new one comes out too. Now? I love England too! Please do come to Philadelphia if it would allow in your schedule, as the Flower Show’s theme this year is “Brilliant” showcasing the creativity and imagination of England’s Gardens, London, Palaces and all things we saw in your travels! Hoping I am the lucky gal to receive yet another treasure from a beloved friend! That’s You! <3
I love the little bookmark with the lamb at the top. Is there any way to get one of those?
Click on the word Willard at the end of Susan’s post above. The free lamb bookmark is a pdf file in there:) p.s. interesting how you spell your name:)) I am really a Judith and go by judi.
Hi Judyth!!! Yes! The Bookmark is FREE! A Gift from Susan!

Susan, I know you must be so excited to have finished your book! I am crossing my fingers that Vanna picks me! But then, I’d be excited for whoever wins! I spent part of Valentine’s Day with my mom, who has a Valentine birthday! She turned 91, and is doing so good! I made heart and lip shaped sugar cookies to share with her friends in her assisted living place! They were all very excited! I also fixed up a little box for a special ed. girl who is a student at the school my daughter works at! She always asks “did your mom make any cookies”? So I made up a very fancy box especially for her. I was told she cried! She loved it!♥ So Susan…..whatever happened to the cookbook you were working on???? I sure am looking forward to that one too! Valentine hugs, Francine
Hmmm, the resident gremlins seem to have snacked on my first comment… so I will toss them another! Would love to win the advance copy of your book, of course, but cautious yankee that I am, I have covered all the bases by pre-ordering a copy! Congratulations on nearing completion, it must feel like running the final mile of a marathon (I have watched my husband finish many, so I have an inkling of what it takes)!
I would love to win the new Book! Haven’t won anything yet…but still keep on trying. Have a great day.
Looking forward to enjoying your new book…bless you.
What a perfect title for your beautiful book…I truly can’t wait to get it. Thanks for taking pre-orders…so nice to have something to look forward to. I thought your Willard was just great and of course, brought tears to my eyes for so many reasons…happy tears.
xoxo Mary Lou.
I love your Willards, I always think this one is the best but every one is the best. Oh, how I can’t wait to get your book. I have never been to England but I hope to some day and your book will be my guide as to where to go and what to enjoy. You are such a delight to all of us girlfriends – keep up the good work. I would love to win your “special” edition. Thank you for all you give to us.
Your adventure has all the parts of items on my Bucket List! Looking forward to sharing your adventure in a volume!
Enjoyed your writing and picts once again…you have a way of turning the common and ordinary into something special, and I appreciate that! Your writing helps make winter not quite so long, and the holidays a bit more fun!
Am looking forward to the book, bought or won, either way, I promise to enjoy it immensely!!
Enjoy the day,
Joy
Hi! I am crossing my fingers for an early copy of your beautiful, magical book for my mom . . . she has loved you for years (she introduced me to you!) and she and my dad are planning a trip in August to Scotland where her father was born. I know your book will be so special to her and her memories after they come home but would also be such a special treat to savor before they cross the Atlantic! Thank you so much for your beautiful creations and lovely Web site . . . from both my mom and I! Thank you!
Dear Susan – Thank you for the new Willard. It’s snowy here in the Hudson Valley this morning and I curled up with my coffee to read it. I can’t wait to curl up with A Fine Romance too. I pre-ordered my copy today. It’s been so much fun watching you create. Susan, I’ve been talking with my kindergarten students about how books are made. They are very curious about how an illustrator puts their artwork into a book. (Many think the illustrator paints each book, as they do in school 🙂 ) Can you give us a little summary of the steps you take to create a book? Do you send the pages themselves to be scanned at the publisher? It must be scary to let them go. I’m just as curious as my young students. Thank you so much for all you do – you inspire me in so many ways!
Joe is scanning the pages and emailing them to Kellee in my studio, she is preparing them, sending them to me for approval, then they will go to the publisher! It’s a family affair! 🙂
You’ve inspired me again! I think I can make our own little publishing shop at school with our scanner and printer. My students will be thrilled to hear that’s how you create a book too. Thanks!
Yes, and here on the island one of the teachers has the kids do their own books every year, big projects for them.
Thank you, dear Susan, for a wonderful Willard and wonderful blog posts. You always brighten my day and give me a dose of ***HAPPY***. 🙂 Can’t wait for your England book! I’m planning a trip with my parents to England within the next year, so I’m eager to read of your travels and tips. Blessings to you!
<3 <3 <3 xoxoxox
The book looks so, so….ROMANTIC!! I need to pre-order 3 copies. I'm taking long weekend in November just to attend the SLO book signing. My sister in law and I will be at the beginning of the line with cameras and books in hand! Congratulations on another success!!!
See if your publisher can set up a book signing at the Tattered Cover in Denver (I'll have the guest room ready for you and Joe!)
xoxo Christine
I will be waiting for you in SLO! Working on Tattered Cover too!
Susan~Are you working on coming to a bookstore somewhere in Michigan???…pretty please with sprinkles and sugar on top…xoxo…
What’s a good one to try for?
I loved following your journey of discovery throughout England, and cannot wait to see your beautiful book. Please enter my name in the drawing! XOXO Virginia
Thanks for “staying the course” and writing such a wonderful book. I eagerly look forward to reading all of it. Your self discipline is inspiring. Have a wonderful time on your train trip west.
Thank you Susan for the beautiful Valentine blog and Willard.
You have been inspiring me since I discovered “Heart of the Home” when my
daughter was born. I ordered “A Fine Romance” as a remembrance of our days
exploring the English countryside. We had the good fortune to live in London for
awhile, where she attended the wonderful American School at Hillingdon.
You continue to bring much joy to my life! xo Denise
Hello Susan ¬
I posted last night but it didn’t go through. Hopefully this one will. I can’t wait for your new book. My husband, Paul & I moved back to his homeland this past May. I have every book you have ever published so your books and stickers came with me to Nottinghamshire (Robin Hood country), England when we moved. I would not have left without them. Nottinghamshire has lovely countryside. I enjoy your blog, books, stickers and Willard’s so much. They are my constant companion in this foreign but lovely land. We also brought our 2 cats and 2 dogs with us. I love going to bed at night with all my babies that sleep with me. Kitty paws on your face to tell you that they love you is the best. I hope I win your book because I have searched all the book stores here that are available to me and can’t find your books. This was the first year that I didn’t have one of your calendars (to my dismay). I have always had one for years. Thank you for making me happy and keep up with the beautiful books you make. I enjoy them so much! Your fan forever.
I would love to win your book. I so enjoyed seeing the pictures you had on your Blog. My daughter lived in England for 5 years and I was fortunate enough to visit her 3 times. Seeing your pictures was like returning home. I did so love seeing the Beatrice Potter pictures.
Susan, I can’t tell you what it meant to see your blog with the snow covering you wonderful island. My daughter, Katie, took her own life last week at the tender age of 29, leaving a husband and a young son. She struggled with mental illness for over fifteen years but whenever she saw snow, she was happy and filled with a child-like wonder. Her dream was to move to Colorado so she could have snow-filled winters as they come fewer and fewer here in the show-me state. I would show her your blog when your beautiful home was covered with white frosting and she loved looking at the wonderful homes and their colors against the white backdrop. It looks like you and Joe had a wonderful Valentine’s Day – you do know how to do it right!
Linda, I am so sorry to hear about your daughter, Katie. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Heartfelt sympathy… and many, many hugs.
Love,
Dawn
♡♡
Thank you, Dawn, for your kind words. I’ve buried my mom and sister when they were 46 and 47, which was way too young, but this is truly the most gut-wrenching and raw grief I’ve ever known. I try to remember her beautiful smile and kind spirit, which brings me comfort but it’s just plodding through each day right now.
Love,
Linda
Linda, I can’t even begin to imagine what you’re going through. Even though we’ve never met, my heart is breaking for you! Please know that I say a prayer for you- for your strength and for your healing. May God bless you with sweet, sweet memories of your precious Katie.
xoDebbie
Dear Debbie,
I do have some beautiful memories of Katie, who had a beautiful smile and kind, sweet heart. I know it’s just one day at a time and she has left a wonderful, little boy who is full of joy and inherited her big smile. For that, I’m so very grateful.
Love,
Linda
Dear Linda,
Please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of your daughter, Katie. You have been in my thoughts and prayers since reading your post yesterday. I am so very sorry Linda. You and your family will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.
Love, Carrie
Dear Carrie,
I appreciate so much your thoughts and prayers. I have my faith which I know will carry me through this but my heart does have a huge hole in it now. It also has Katie’s footprints though and I cherish the memories of what a special joy she brought to my life.
Love,
Linda
OH Linda, I can’t even find words, this makes me so sad. All I know to do is send a big hug to you. I hope you can feel it. I’m so sorry. xoxo
Linda – so very, very sorry to hear of the loss of your Katie [our family has experienced suicide too]. Hope you feel this big, warm, sqooshy virtual squeeze around you right now… God bless you & your family – and take care…
Dear Susan,
Thank you for you hug – I did feel it, as I felt all the love through our “Susie” friends. I know she’s at peace now and I plan on making mental health care my new campaign. I’m a letter writer and now I hope to find healing in bringing this issue to the forefront. I’m so grateful for you and the joy you bring not only to my life, but all the friends of all things SB.
Love,
Linda
Oh, that is wonderful Linda … It’s awful how little help there is for people! If you ever start a petition or anything like that, please be sure to mention it here so any of us who want to can sign it!! I don’t know anyone who this problem doesn’t touch. Thank you SO much! xoxo
Yippeeee! I just ordered the books from your website and the Deal of the Week! H-A-P-P-Y!!
I am so happy for you, that you have completed the book. I am most excited to read it…with hopes of traveling a similar path to England, at some point. I did want you to count me in as wanting a book, but I do not know just where I will be next September or October….so I have decided not to pre-order the book, but wait for it to arrive in your on.line store. However, maybe, you can start another list for us that certainly want to order but cannot commit at this time. I think the Publisher will want to print LOTS of these books! Loved the Willard, too. Thank you for this wonderful blog….it brightens many a day!
So happy to hear about the upcomming book and I delighted in reading your latest blog! You make me feel so at home..I am in travel mode myself flew up to Portland for a visit with my sis..(live in Calif) I am not a good “leaver of home” at all, dread is too small of a word here,(especially on my own with out my other half of 40 years) but once I get to the destination I usually bounce back and enjoy the new sights with a passion. This trip is a little bit different, harder for me, so I turned on my computer, turned up the musica and started to read……….Thanks Susan,,,,,for being here with me! And again congrats!
I have loved your books/you for years!
Your snow is beautiful! So far all we’ve gotten in this part of Virginia is rain. I’d love to have a nice snowfall!
Yey!!! So very wonderful to hear that you have a new book coming out! I’ll be pre-ordering one for myself and for each of my 6 sisters. My oldest sister Jeanne, introduced us to your beautiful work years ago, and all of us were hooked!!! Opening one of your books, is like “coming home,” and that is a feeling we treasure.
Love to hear that you and your husband watch Dowton Abby! We cannot get enough of that show, and eagerly await each Sunday date night.
Have a wonderful Saturday Susan Branch, and thank you doing what you do, and sharing your gifts with the rest of us!
~Sheila from De Pere, Wisconsin~
I would love to add your new book to my Susan Branch collection, but I’m afraid if I win this copy I would have to give it to my good friend, Patty who loves all things English! In fact, she is visiting this spring and has enjoyed following your journals.
We live in Santa Barbara and get our “change of seasons” fix through your blog and your wonderful Vineyard entries. Do you get to spend time at your home out here very often? Thank you for sharing your life with all of us….looking forward to your newest book!
Dear Susan,
Would love, love, love to win a copy. I can’t wait to see it. I love the title and I know I will hang on every word and be swept away by every picture.
All the best to you in your little corner of the world from mine down here in Florida,
Ruthie
Happy Belated Valentine’s Day, Susan! I am beyond excited about the new book coming out! I can’t wait to read it! Of course, one of the burning questions I have is what was the Elizabeth book that you were reading on the boat? You may have answered that already, but with 1400+ replies, I might never find it. 🙂
Now do you really want to know that and not be surprised ?? 🙂
Thanks for writing A Fine Romance and thanks for the new contest Susan~! Please greet Vana for me. xo
I am so excited for the publication of your new book. I have been to England once (as a chaperone for 50 high school choir members) but your book will enable my husband and me to plan a trip back! It has been wonderful to read the pages that you have shared with your fans! I will be preordering my copy very soon! Thanks!
Oh choose me!!! I love your beautiful and heartwarming work and I am dreaming of a trip to England someday soon and wood love to use your book for a guide. I am a devotee of tea and all things that go along with it from table linens to china to tea sandwiches! I have so enjoyed your website and look forward to enjoying a few minutes of bliss each day!
What an accomplishment! I am so looking forward to your book and revisiting England through your eyes. Keep staying warm and cozy. We need more snow and less wind here!
Susan, what is the book you referred to in Willard as the “Elizabeth” book ? Going on a cruise soon and looking for some reading! Thanks in advance.
You have the ABSOLUTE best blog ever!!!
XOXO thank you, I love it, mostly I love everyone who comes to it!
EEEK!!!…you must be walking around on Cloud 109 with 1000+ comments filled with love…sending some more as we have the roof of our house shoveled off today in anticipation of several more snow storms predicted to flutter down on us here in western Minnesota in the coming days…whew…it is really pretty, but I am sooooooo over snow…counting my blessings we aren’t having hurricanes, flooding or tornadoes…trying to be positive…xoxo…
I am walking on Cloud 109 at Least, because you wonderful girlfriends are amazing me with your sweet comments and all the interest in A Fine Romance — you make it so fun for me! Joe is starting to get respectful! It’s about time! 🙂 Looking outside at something snow-like — might be a little sleetish, coming down right now! Stay warm Rae Ann!
Hi Susan~I am staying warm and I know you and Joe and he kitties are basking in the glow of the love being sent your way for you do for us…Doug our “snowman” has been here ince 9:30 AM shoveling the snow off our roof…whew…what a job…and here come more snow…I’m celebrating my Mother’s 90th birthday today…she is in Michigan at a party with the rest of the family…just too much snow from here to there for me to get there, but I just sang Happy Birthday to her and had a nice chat with her…with tears in my eyes…such a blessing I can talk to her…xoxo…

I’m so pleased and excited to be part of the friends who will be receiving our books and sharing in them together, along with you. What a beautiful connection you have made between you and all of us. My book is on order, but oh, if I win one, complete with autograph, I’ll be over the moon! xox sandy 🙂
and thanks for noting that we all can have a happy Valentine’s Day, even sans sweetheart
It is Saturday, that joyous of all days, when I get to stay home from my 8-5 M-F job, and do what I truly love to do, part of which involves just staying home! I slept in, got up and made coffee, grabbed my laptop and brought them BOTH back to my warm, snuggly bed so I could catch up on your blog. Susan, every single one of your blogs and Willards is like a delightful Valentine to us, your girlfriends! Thank you for being such a genuine, warm, welcoming person, who has room in your huge heart for ALL of US who so adore you and share many of your passions. One of those passions being the English countryside! So I am hoping my name gets thrown into Vanna’s ‘pot’ from which she will draw the privileged winner of an early copy of A Fine Romance. I can’t think of anything that would make a more treasured gift!
I love your books, Susan! I have every one, plus all of your calendars. I want to go to England with all my heart: it is my life long dream. If I win your book, that will be a dream come true. Thank you for being you. You lift me up. Xxoo.
Thank you for all the Valentine inspiration!
Will enjoy visiting England thru your eyes!! The book would be a treasure to me. Congratulations on all those hours of work that will be enjoyed by so many.
Thanks to my mom, I have become addicted to Susan Branch and what a fun addiction it is! I am so excited for your new book to come out this fall and am hoping that I am the lucky one who will get it a little bit earlier. I am getting married in June so what a lovely gift it would be! I love reading about all of your adventures on your blog, seeing your lovely home and of course, seeing the kitties. I “founded” a stray black and white 13 years ago while home from college one summer. While gazing out of my room, I saw him prance by and yelled, “Mom, we need that cat!” After a fine lunch of tuna on a china plate, we got that cat much to my father’s dismay at first but now he loves him. His name is William, named after Prince William of course because he looked so regal when we first met! Whenever I see what Jack is up to, it reminds me of William and brings the biggest smile to my face. Thanks for all of your stories and sharing your talent!!! You are a fun person!
And getting married in June! How wonderful! Love your kitty story! Hope you win Sarah!
Hi Susan I am so looking forward to reading this book, can’t wait. Sherry in Longview, Wa
I commented earlier in the week but cannot find it published….so…..I am commenting again ’cause I just KNOW I am going to win that book – just know it – so cannot risk missing out due to no comment! Sending you happy President’s Day weekend from sunny warm Sacramento – oh just close enough for a girl’s weekend trip to SLO for that fall book signing! Been a Susan Branch fan for as long as I can remember. Inspiring! Thanks!
Have always loved Susan Branch stuff and have all your books; I just have a hard time finding the stickers, and I use them scrapbooking! My first spring bulbs are already blooming here in Texas and have been for over a week; Have a wonderful day!
I love reading your posts – you make everyday a holiday!
I love the way you write!! I feel like we are sitting at the table enjoying a chat and a cup of tea together. Your photos of England are magnificent, which gives me the desire to plan a trip across the pond. Congratulations on your new book!!! I would love to win. Best regards, Margie
Hello there Susan!
WOW! I just don’t even know where to begin! Every single time I look at your postings I am just drawn in. Everything around me fades away and I am taken to a romantic place. All the tensions, pressures and ‘arrrggghhhss’ of the day just melt away! I am so inspired by you.
My husband left two days before Valentines Day on a business trip so I was feeling kinda sad for myself. But, I was cheered just by visiting with you online! YOU ROCK!!!
I am so IN LOVE with your new book coming out. I have Meniere’s (vertigo) and am not sure that I can ever make a trip like that. But I will experience it through your book. What an awesome expression of love you are giving by writing this book. I can’t wait for when it comes out!!
Keep up the great work you are doing. You are ministering to people like me who might not be able to travel far and wide by taking us away in our imaginations!
Thanks!
Suzi
So sweet of you to tell me, thank you Suzanne!
Soooo excited to read in Willard that you will be in SLO again for the ROTP show! You signed books for my best girlfriend and me in 2011, and this time around, my best sisterfriend (we had the fabulous good fortune to marry brothers!!) and I are changing plans on our hubbies. They attend the Cayucos car show every year, and have for the last 7 years, while we ladies antique shop after mani/pedis… it’s a perfect plan!! So, I was just notified that the plans for this year have changed!! They are pushing our weekend back a week just so we can be in SLO at the ROTP show to get our books signed!! We love our Susie B!! Years ago, we bought each other the “We’re the Normal Ones” pendant necklaces to wear to family gatherings!! Thank you for being you!! You are a very important part of our lives!! ~ Cindy
How wonderful Cindy! I really am looking forward to it. Love that you and your best friend married brothers, that was so smart of you!
The best thing is that we didn’t know each other existed until my Hubby (of 40 years!)’s younger brother married this amazing woman, a mere 37 years ago!! Fate intervened in a fabulous way… as usual 😉
No matter when you send the Willard, I save it for leisurely weekend viewing. Thank you for the Valentine’s wishes and the coming book. The book will be a treasure! The New York harbor cam has stayed on my web page bookmarks since you and Joe set sail-I do love the anticipation of adventure.
on valentine’s day, over a fun little dinner of pasties and irish music, my hubby and i dreamed about the prospects of a trip to the UK (for an upcoming big anniversary)…don’t know if it could possibly happen, but i told him we MUST get a copy of your book to keep the inspiration coming! i have LOVED your posts about your trip, your posts showing the pages of your book in process and all the details that absolutely tug on my heart….and i would LOVE for vanna to pull my name:) we’ll see! xo
Hope it was a wonderful Valentine’s Day Sue and Joe! My sweet husband and I are drinking coffee outside in the Southern California sun, and those snow scenes are a world away! Congratulations on finishing the book! You can’t imagine how much we are all waiting for it. And . . . . that is such a cute bookmark! If we order on the site, will each book have one with it? On to St. Patrick’s Day and shamrock shortbread. Arline in Burbank
