HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!

Just a little Valentine mood MUSICA for some of my very favorite people . . . ♥

Yesterday most of our snow had melted, the grass was green, and I was having little pangs of Spring Fever . . . and today, as the sun began to come up, I looked outside to one of the prettiest snowstorms I’ve seen in a long time.

Just a beautiful day on the island.  My girlfriend Margot called at 6am to say, “You have to go look at the sunrise!”  One look and I burrowed right back into winter . . .

And now, the wind is blowing clumps of snow off roofs and trees and making it look like it’s snowing, but it’s not.

It’s just adding to the romance of an already romantic day…

As does this . . .

It’s the feet I love the most.

I took Joe his breakfast a while ago.  His Valentine’s present.

I made it in a cookie cutter.

Happy Valentine’s Day Girlfriends! I hope you’ve all received your Valentine Willards! Just as you read, we’re having a drawing for a pre-publication copy of my new book A FINE ROMANCE!

To be entered, just leave a comment (click on the tiny grey word “comments” just under this post). Sometime after the 20th, Vanna, our resident chooser-in-chief, will pick the winning name! When the book comes in, I’ll sign it and send it to the lucky winner. Until then, especially for today, I’m sending you virtual chocolate kisses and red roses and hope (sweetheart or no sweetheart, no one needs a sweetheart to celebrate Valentine’s Day) that your day includes something special just for you. xoxo Make all your Valentine dreams come true no matter what and be your own darling sweetheart!  Love you, THANK YOU!  I’m thrilled about the book, you just have to know … yesterday, I wrote the ending and I made myself cry!  Thank you for joining me on this book-writing adventure! xoxo P.S. Just in case you need it, you can view WILLARD here!

I am SO looking forward to this book of yours! My husband and I lived in England for three years (late ’70’s/early ’80’s) where he served our nation in the Air Force. We had only been married 1 year when he received orders and we moved to live in the UK. We lived in a small village near Banbury and spent 3 years discovering all of the wonder tucked away in this lovely land. I know you have captured so many of the places we remember with such happiness. Happy Valentine’s Day!!

  14. Patricia from Philly says:

    Hi Susan! Happy Valentine’s Day!
I always wondered about the broken-arm boyfriend after reading it in one of your books – can you tell me, did you get the job? Or, more importantly, did you get the interviewer as a boyfriend?

I’ve ordered my A Fine Romance book… life is good, even though we have not had a really good snowfall in our area yet 🙁 (still hoping!)

    good morning susan!
i was so excited to see the willard in my mailbox this morning! perfect with the morning coffee. Happy valentines day to one of the most romantic couples i know. your Joe is a treasure!

the book cover is PERFECT!! and so is the title. i had to rush right over to the store to place my order. the timing will be perfect if my daughters application to oxford gets her an interview invite. the interviews are in the very end of the year. so an october release is perfect for a trip preview 🙂 oh happy happy.
of course if daughter does not get the invite then we will just have to make a trip to England her graduation gift! your book will accompany us, making you our travel guide hehe. btw, said daughter is drooling over the pictures of snow you have posted, she misses the snow dearly and is tired of the mild southern ca weather.

time for work, thanks again for all the lovelies to start of my day.
Blessings to you and the “kids” and your sweetheart.

Hi Susan, was waiting for your latest blog. I am in Florida, but I am fron the Northeast, and actually REALLY miss the snow and cold weather. (As long as you don’t have to drive in it). Can’t believe you finished your new book. You have been working on it since you came back. I don’t know if it seems like a long or short time to you, but it seems an awfully fast amount of time to finish a book. Bravo!!!! I did not notice where you can sign up for a copy on your home page. Will have to go back and check, as I DO NOT want to miss reserving a copy. Can’t wait. Happy Valentine’s Day to you and Joe. A beautiful love story. Thanks for sharing all your beautiful memories.

    Hi Susan,
What a delightful Valentine to all of us! So looking forward to the book and will order it today! Did you know that an early Judy Dench BBC production has the same title as your new book? She made it with her husband Michael whose last name escapes me just now, but I know he was her great love. Great choice of words for “Sweethearts Day” as we call it in our home. Enter me in the drawing!
Happy, happy day to all the SB Girlfriends everywhere!

Congratulations on the book being done – or almost being done – way to go! I am so excited about it, I haven’t been to England since 1984…so it’s time I had another visit, and if I can’t go in person then your book is certainly the next best thing! xo, Nan

  35. Marianne in Mo. says:

What a lovely post today! Wish I had that kind of love! My “Joe” isn’t the romantic kind of guy, but after almost 38 years, I guess I’ll keep him a bit longer! Not everyone has what they dreamed of way back when, but he loves me and I love him, and we have two wonderful daughters and four fabulous grandchildren, plus the best sons-in-laws in the world! I’m happy! :0))

  36. Alisa Luna says:

I love love love reading everything you turn out. My husband and I just moved to Northern California from Southern California via Naperville Il for 5 years. Being a Southern Cal gal for 49 years, I just felt like I was on vacation every time it snowed in Illinois. So I love and envy your pictures and stories about being cozy in the snow. I intend on dragging my Hubbie Bill to see you when you are up here on November 9th. On my Hubbies B Day! Glad to see you survived the big storm. Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your sweet family!

  37. Kathy says:

Happy Valentines Day Susan and Joe!
I just pre-ordered your book, A Fine Romance, I could NOT take the chance that I wouldn’t be able to get one. I was in England in 1983 on my honeymoon but we weren’t able to stay the whole time due to a family emergency. I know when I read your book it will be a wonderful guide to the areas of England that I missed all those years ago. If Vanna would pick me I would love to give another book to my mom who also has been to England and loves everything English. Thank you again for all the beauty you bring to this world!
    Kathy

  38. MJ Smith says:

Can’t wait for your new book to come out! Congratulations on finishing it! Now … go have some fun!

  39. Joan Georghiou says:

Happy Valentines Day Susan & Joe. Book or No Book, I feel the need to tell you I found your blog several months ago (after seeing your work over the years), and I am so glad I did. The reason why? When I read your blog it makes me smile, I sigh and think “lovely”. It creates a lightness in my heart. I can tell you I do not have one of those romantic, sweet, sappy personalities (not that there is anything wrong with that…it is just not me), but when I leave your blog I feel a little nicer, a little sweeter and a little happier. Thanks Susan (can I take the liberty and call you Girlfriend?)

  40. Lisa Nelson jones says:

My Willard just came and it was sooooo good.
My grandmother used to make a pudding like that in Iowa. She
called it Date Nut Pudding. My mother also made it and put whipped
cream and a cherry on top. The only difference is that ours does
not have the spices. We usually have it at Christmas.
I lost my sweetheart 6 years ago and Valentine’s Day will never be
the same but I focus on the little grandchildren and I get through.
Willard is good, too. Thanks a bunch !

I bought Heart of the Home when I was brand new, many years ago when I was a young mother. And I have almost every book since. I moved from a very cold place to the desert 4 1/2 years ago, and at Christmas, ‘re-read that book. This year I googled you on my new Kindle Fire and found your blog. Happiness, I look forward to reading them so much. Happy Valentine’s to you and many thanks for brightening my day 🙂

Hi Susan! Happy Valentine’s Day to you!!! When I got up this morning, Willard was there to greet me! Yea! I’ve been looking forward to it’s coming! It is always a treat to read!!!

I LOVE your new book and can’t wait to get it pre-ordered! I loved going “with” you on your trip to England last year and was so excited that you were planning to write a book! Now, it is almost here!!! I have already printed out my bookmark…THANK YOU FOR IT!

I really like your idea of using a cookie cutter to cook a heart shaped egg! Very clever and one I want to try!

Happy Valentine’s Day to all the girls! Hoping it is a fun Valentines for all!

  86. Mary Pat says:

Oh! What a grand blog for today. Also just got Willard, and am in love with the new book! Even though I have pure-ordered a copy, if I won this one, I’ll give it to my sister. Keep the love going. Happy to be in this special group!

Have a super day. I always start my day by checking for an update from you. As my mom would say, now it’s going to be a good day…..Willard as well. Congrats on getting the bulk of the book behind you..just in time for spring, but get some rest first, play a little and savor the last cozy days of winter.

Happy valentines! We are planning to go to England this summer for a week, your blog has been an inspiration. Really liked your bird pictures,we have been feeding the birds in our garden also,it has been snowing over here too. No cardinals (beautiful birds) but pheasants and great tits (koolmees in dutch).
On bbc.co.uk/food you can find a lot of recipes of “puddings”.
    Love from Holland.

Happy Valentine’s Day. Sitting here with a wonderful cup of coffee, my 3 dogs, and the cat, and husband. Hoping for a sunny day. We are at the far end of the time zone, (mtn.) and the day comes slower. Going to dinner tonight with twin sis & her husband. Seems like a perfect day to me!

Just remembered something I forgot – that you mentioned in your Willard – which is I watch Downton Abbey, too, as I’m sure a lot of your blog readers do, and I wanted to mention a book a friend read and then passed on to me to read. I’m about half way through it and it’s good. It’s called Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey The Lost Legacy of Highclere Castle by The Countess of Carnarvon. I think you’d enjoy it. Also – I’m sending Valentine riddles to friends and family to hopefully give them a chuckle and I thought I’d send one to you, too. How do acrobats fall in love? Head over heels! : )

  91. Theresa says:

Love is in the air today, ( and everyday, sometimes you have to look for it!) I just finished reading the latest Willard! It was a total delight! Love the bookmark and can’t wait for A Fine Romance to use it! A million thanks to you and Joe! Blessings from the chilly Texas pastures!

  92. Barbara in Napa says:

Happy Valentine’s Day to you as well!
I gave myself a present and ordered your book, which I can’t wait to read. I’ll be going to London this spring on a little adventure by myself. No husband, no kids, no pets. I’ll wistfully miss them while I’m strolling anywhere I want to go! I’ll let you know how the alone thing goes, it sounds good in theory….

Anyway I wish everyone who reads your blog a lovely day! And I hope I win the book!
    Barbara

Dear Susan – along with all the others I’m so excited about the book. When you wrote in the blog that you had written the last page yesterday, I teared up – and then saw that you did too. It’s been a great journey. Thanks for sharing.

  98. Rosemary Watson says:

Happy Valentines Day Susan! Loved this months Willard! So excited to see the new book 🙂 Just went and looked at the beatrix potter treasures you found. I started my own collections because of yours 🙂 I found six pieces at a estate sale last summer for about 7.00 each! I nearly died! haha! Looks like I have alot more to collect though 🙂
