How’s Life ?

Hi everyone, how’s life? MUSICA?  OUI! I’ve heard there are terrible fires in San Diego and snow in northern Illinois (of all the disheartening things); and here on the island the forecast was birdiefor a week of clouds and rain. But they were wrong!!! It’s been just the opposite.  We have been waking up to blue skies and 70 degrees ~ we walk every day, making hay while the sun cabinetsshines.  We’ve been gardening every day too (it’s looking so cute out there), and doing a true deep and rewarding spring cleaning.  I am ON the kitchen now, every bowl and plate in my open cupboards is going into the suds today for sparkle upgrade.  The silver is going into the aluminum foil ~ but I look out my studio window right now and I can see butterflies floating around the garden . . .

wildflowers and cat mintI keep the kitchen doors wide open while I work because the birds are singing their hearts out, and just like now, when I feel the need to procrastinate due to spring fever, I go out and pick wildflowers like these.  You all realize we have not seen anything like this for a full year?  How exciting!   So pretty!  Free ~ like the best things in life!

lilac

This is what our entire neighborhood smells like right now. Lilac. This, plus wisteria, plus Lily of the Valley. All in bloom right now.  Help, I’m going mad with something I don’t know what it is. Perfumorama Virus.

May

Lemon Roll

It was my girlfriend Lowely’s birthday on the 14th . . . she asked for that Lemon Roll I showed you on the blog last week . . . I’d sent over a couple of pieces to her and John for tasting, so she asked for another one for our girlfriend’s lunch Birthday Party for her . . . instead of forsythia petals like I did on the first cake, Lowely got a little bouquet of wild violets and Lily of the Valley.  Isn’t it fun to decorate cakes with gatherings from the yard!  Happy Spring!

delicious-autumn

How’s this for seasonal segue and non sequitur all rolled into one? How dare I say Happy Spring and Delicious Autumn in one breath!  Well, because this is part of what I’ve been up to lately, planning ahead ~ we know we love fall, maybe not right this moment, but we still love it. And I finally did it!  I have started to reprint some of my older books.  And AUTUMN is going to be the very first one.  It will go off to the printer at the end of the month.

AUTUMN

And because we are in charge of this book, it is going to be printed in the good ole’ US of A!  Made in America.  Totally.  Are we happy?  Yes we are.

the reason I'm so happy

As with anything, there are good things and bad things about doing it ourselves.  One good thing is we get to choose where it’s printed, the only bad thing is we aren’t able to print a zillion of them like a big publisher would, although

our new logo

. . . we did become our own publisher for this.  Yes! That’s the other thing I wanted to share with you.  We are actual publishers now! That’s our logo ↑ ; it will be used for the first time (but not the last) in the new printing of AUTUMN.  If ever you would have told me that sometime in my life I would a.) be an author or b.) be a publisher, I would have (and did) laughed out loud.  This is what I like about life. You just never know.

ribbons

Autumn will be our first project.  And as the publisher we get to decide important things, like ribbons.  If you figure out which book is Autumn in that pumpkin art by Jessie and Sydneypile above, you will see that it has no ribbon. But since we are doing our own publishing this time, guess what?  No one can tell us “no” but us and we would never do that. We are really nice to us.  We would like a ribbon.  Of course, my darlings, you may have one.  Could we have our book printed in the USA?  Yes, dears, we know that means a lot to you.

No one can say no!  The publisher has to pay more for these things, but since that’s us, we can choose what we want.  We have all the power.  (None of the money of say Random House, but ALL the power of “that little old ant,” with high hopes of moving a rubber tree plant.) MUSICA.

Autumn

Other than than having a ribbon and changing the publisher’s name to ours, the book will be just the same.  If you already have one, I didn’t add anything new . . . so you won’t miss a thing.  But if you’re new to me and my blog . . . or your daughter has grown up and has a family of her own now, here are some of the goodies I have for you inside this book:

cheesecake

Pumpkin Cheesecake

Melt in your mouth EASY Pumpkin Cheesecake . . . well worth the price of the book all by itself.

Corn Chowder

But there’s so much more, like my Texas-style Chili, Corn Pudding, and Spicy, Sagey Corn Chowder  you can serve alone or ladled over creamy Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes.

leaves

spiced pecans

There are delicious appetizers like Red Chili Onion Rings, and ideas for gifts like brown sugar and cholula Spiced Pecans, Butter-Bit Croutons, or . . .

marigold-dust

stuffed pumpkins

There are”Jack-Be-Little” Pumpkins stuffed with butternut squash, leeks, and apples you can arrange around the turkey platter . . .

leaves

Mmmmmm.

September will be time for back to school, and what says it better than . . .

best brownies

. . . Chocolaty, Chewey, easy to make, the best brownie recipe in the world? Nothing really . . .

hats

leaves

Halloween

Recipes and ideas for all the seasonal celebrations like Halloween are included . . .

salads . .

There are special salads . . .

leaves

Thanksgiving

And at Thanksgiving, the recipe for my Grandma’s famous Turkey Stuffing . . .

My House

And beside recipes, there are stories like My House and Morning Science; Decorating and Entertaining for the season . . .

leaves

decorating

. . . decorating the table, fixing up the Guest Room, making Gift Baskets, interesting ideas for Fall Collections, recipes for Afternoon Tea, things to do in Sweater Weather, fall Cocktails and everything else our vagabond Autumn hearts desire.

autumn

I’ve been reading it over while getting the art ready to go to the printer, and despite the birdsong and the smell of wisteria, or maybe because of it ~ I’ve enjoyed it. I’m sure you can tell I’m very excited.  If this goes OK, we’ll do some more!  We hope to have the new printing in the studio the first of August, just when we’re all longing for Autumn and wishing for those cooler breezes and thinking about hot apple crisp with crunchy topping and vanilla ice cream.  It’ll be for sale in bookstores too, but as usual we’ll make sure you have first crack at them, trying to make sure we have enough for our Girlfriends first ~ we’ll also keep signed copies for you in our webstore.

High school

So you know, in a couple of weeks I’m going to New York to Book Expo, then to Connecticut to give a talk at the Gladys Taber Reunion, then my best high school girlfriends are coming from California to stay here with us on June 20 . . . can you tell we are going to have fun?  Oh yeah.  That’s Karen second from the right, the one I met the Beatles with. But before I go clean up the house (!!! now you see the situation, nothing like company to get a house clean!), here are a couple more pictures of island spring!

hyacinths for the soul

morning light

. . . This is morning light on our house through the Linden trees . . . I keep getting up thinking I will see rain, and this is what I see instead.  Lucky! Dreamy ~ after that winter.

gardeningSo, that’s it for today Girlfriends. I hope you enjoyed Spring and Fall all in one post!  We have another big surprise for you coming soon.  June 11th is the 3rd anniversary for my Blog; it’s also the anniversary of our first post on FACEBOOK ~ so we have decided to combine forces to make a wonderful drawing, to say thank you for your support, and for the fun you have brought all of us, me, Kellee, Sheri, and Alfredo (and Joe too!) Not to mention Jack and Girl . . .♥   Have a wonderful day!

Susan, I am loving your post. The Spring flowers, cleaning and weather. Oops did I say cleaning…that had to be a slip of one of my fingers, since I use two to type.LOL. I am going to be looking for your new self published book. You are an amazing woman. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  2. jan from Princeton says:

How exciting! I have this book and highly recommend it! You are just awesome, Susan!

  3. Kelley S says:

Congratulations on becoming a publisher! Such exciting news! Your Autumn Book is one of my absolute faves and has pride of place in my kitchen when I decorate for Fall. Now we can spread the joy of this book to our friends and family by gifting them. For the last week, I’ve been enjoying my new Tuxedo kitten, Jasper. He is 1.6 lbs of fun. You were right: nothing cheers up a house like a new kitten. My Miss Kitty may disagree a bit, but she is coming around. Have a great weekend!

  4. Amy Warren says:

I was just saying that about the forecast–up here in Quincy, MA same thing: rain forecast all week and its been divine–playground weather every day! Happy Spring Susan!

  5. Celia Reusch Cawthon says:

THRILLED!!!!! And will be buying another half dozen Autumn. I’m keeping one for myself because I don’t have ribbon in mine, and will gift the others to my best friends. Could I give one away on my blog? Just SO HAPPY you are your own publisher FINALLY!!!

  6. Nancy Klaud says:

    Hi Susan,

Love your new book on the English countryside! Bob and I travelled there last year and fell in love with Cornwall. Martha’s Vineyard is where Bob calls home. (his family once owned the Bishop Gilbert Haven House in Oak Bluffs) He says it’s not just a place but a state of mind. We are planning a family reunion there this summer. As a fellow artist (botanical illustrations for The Smithsonian, The Field Museum, Chicago Botanic Gardens) I am planning to paint en plein air while there. Can you suggest some lovely garden spots on MV? Also, have you a small gift shop we can visit while on the island?

    • sbranch says:

How brilliant, it IS a state of mind. A dangerous one, because once you get in it, there is no getting out! 🙂 I don’t have a gift shop, but I have to say, Nancy, you are in for a treat as far as pretty things to paint . . . just drive around, they are everywhere, I couldn’t begin to pick one. Long views with farmhouses and water beyond, lots of woods walks, old mailboxes, cute cottages, farmstands, picket fences and old arbors with roses frothing over and around them. There are children’s wagons by the side of the road filled with coffee cans with flowers in them ~ they’re for sale on the honor system. You are going to have fun.

      • Cindy Maulin says:

Hi Nancy….your work sounds wonderful and as a fellow Chicagoan, I would love to see it… we visited MV last July and loved every inch and cranny of it….you will not have a problem finding subjects to paint…my thing is photography and I came home to St. Louis with hundreds of photos of the beautiful hydrangeas that are everywhere…shorelines that are unspoiled, weathered lighthouses, gingerbread houses at Oak Bluffs, wonderful people that we met, and sunsets that will set anyone’s heart afire… oh…you ARE in for a treat!! happy painting!! cindy maulin ~ st. louis mo and FOSB!!!

  7. Mary Alice says:

    Susan,
Oh happy day! I am so glad that you are reprinting some of your books that were published before some of us knew how wonderful Susan Branch is! Will the books be signed like the last time, when you reprinted “Summer”? I will definitely be ordering one as Autumn is my favorite time of year. Thank you Susan. You are so good to all of your “girlfriends”.

Your friend in “the other Washington”, Mary Alice

  8. mary says:

I am so excited to see that you are republishing some of your former books. I didn’t discover you until they were out of print. Looking forward to the autumn book coming out!

  9. Joan says:

Am I the FIRST to comment – Oh Happy Day!!! Loved the blog (as usual) 🙂 🙂

  10. Pat Stansel says:

Thrilled about the publishing of Autumn!!! It’s one I don’t have, also Girlfriends. Hope that will be next! So nice that your having such delightful weather—we’ve been having a heat wave! Six days—high80s, 90s & yesterday 100. I know your due for your beautiful Spring days, but I’m still jealous ! Waiting eagerly for my Autumn Book !!!

    • sbranch says:

I think we are on the same page . . . I want to do Girlfriends next too!

      • Susan (now in Colorado) says:

So happy to hear you are becoming your own publisher and reprinting your books. I have them all, but a few I had to get used through Amazon. My dog also ate the covers off a couple (all the good smells, no wonder!) And they will have ribbons, and be printed in the good ole USA!! All things that matter to us girlfriends.

Thanks for a wonderful, cheery blog post today. We are traveling from summer weather (Dallas was in the 90s last week) to winter/early spring. We’ll be in the mountains of Colorado for the next five months. They had a foot of snow last week (which is not unusual for this time of year). Luckily, it melts fast!

Looks like Oprah copied you by marketing her own tea through Starbucks. It was quite good; however, I am anxious to try your organic lavender Earl Grey (my favorite).
I admire your spring cleaning and gardening. I have my own garden up there and plan to try high-altitude gardening this year. I planted herbs and perennials last year. Anxious to see how many survived the winter. You have inspired me to try spring cleaning myself. So many good things to do: knit, garden, cook, read, repeat…

Thank you for the joy you spread!!:)

        • sbranch says:

Enjoy your high altitude Susan … yes, knit, garden, cook, read, repeat! Life is good!

  11. Rhonda D. says:

So exciting to hear that you are now going to be publishers. I just knew that was coming down the pipe sooner or later. It’s a perfect fit for you. I’m smiling inside and out, my mind is dancing…oh, the fun we’ll have with that. Think of it…nothing will be impossible anymore. It’s like opening the door of the bird cage and flying to freedom. So very happy for you, all of us really. Love the new name and the logo…another perfect fit. In my “books,” everything is right with celebrating autumn in spring. I love celebrating the season we are in, but also love the fact that I can dream ahead to any season I like, whenever I like, my mind alive with anticipation…priceless. Congratulations Susan! xo

    • sbranch says:

Nothing will be impossible. Let the caged bird sing! I laugh. I can’t help it! What a world! We have a lot to learn, we will practice on Autumn! Thank you Rhonda! I tell you, this is like the nicest club in the world ~ everyone is just so supportive. xoxo

      • Rhonda D. says:

And learn you will….but won’t that be fantastic, to get to learn about something that is such a huge part of your heart and soul? It’s like the next step. Yes, practice on Autumn, practice away. I only wish I could be your shadow, watch and learn everything you are going to have the privilege of “growing through”… and, I’m off to dreamland again. (And the thought just occurred to me, I’m encouraging Susan Branch…what an honor!). xo

    • Sweet Sue says:

      Good Morning Rhonda!

I just loved your comments on Susan’s latest blog! They are so positive and upbeat and I share your excitement for Susan as well!

I especially liked when you said, “Nothing will be impossible anymore…It’s like opening the door of the bird cage and flying to freedom!” This phrase captured my heart’s desire as I battle cancer believing I will be healed and that all things are possible with God verifying that nothing will be impossible anymore. Also looking forward to being released from the cage of cancer and flying to freedom-free from cancer.
Also like when you said, “I love celebrating the season we are in, but also love the fact that I can dream ahead to any season I like, whenever I like, my mind alive with anticipation…priceless” This confirms to me that the JOY of each day enjoying the present yet also looking forward with hope to the future!

Thank you Rhonda! Bless you this day with all your heart desires!

  12. Sylvia Johnson says:

Congratulations on becoming a publisher! I have Autumn, but I am sure I know someone who needs it. On another note or book-I picked up A Fine Romance to read for the 3rd time and realized I was beginning on May 3rd. The day you left Martha’s Vineyard, driving to New York. I am taking the trip in real time, only 2 years later! This is fun, looking at the calendar and reading. Visiting some of my favorite places and people. Thank you

    • sbranch says:

We have two friends who left on the ship, or are leaving, this afternoon. wah. I’m trying to be happy for them! No, kidding, you know I am. We’ll be there again, I have no doubt.

  13. Ann says:

I love the Autumn cookbook! I highly recommend it. Congrats on your new “hat”. I own most of your books already, but it is great that now more girlfriends can enjoy and own them, without having to pay an exorbitant price online.

  14. Marie (Long Beach, California) says:

What an uplifting, beautiful post! Spring is such an unpredictable and wonderful season. Your pictures speak a thousand words. 🙂 Wow, owning your own publishing company, congratulations! Quite the feat! You are a remarkable woman and are such an inspiration to us girlfriends. I do own your Autumn book and every time I open it, I smile. In fact, I’m smiling the entire time I’m reading the stories, recipes, and enjoying your beautiful artwork. If any of you girlfriends don’t already have this fantastic book, you will love each and every page. Wishing you a safe and wonderful trip to New York and Connecticut, I know you’re going to have a blast. And I can’t wait to hear about your adventures with your best friends from California! Wishing you, Joe, Girl and Jack love and joy. ♥

    • sbranch says:

Oh I’ll save some of the best ones to tell you about. I’m tempted to record us talking! I know I won’t but I am going to wish I did. xoxo

  15. Laura Jenkins says:

Autumn has the best ever, year ’round recipe for ribs! Savory Sage Riblets…lost in the Appetizers and Finger Foods section…we have these for dinner all of the time..page 32.. I am shouting this from the rooftops so it doesn’t get passed over!! LOL

  16. Holly says:

I know I’m going to end up sounding like a commercial, but I LOVE THIS BOOK! 🙂 I pull it out every year around the end of August, read it from cover-to-cover and then use it in my seasonal decorations. It gives me such a happy feeling about fall and makes me look forward to it even more. I’ve made many dishes in the book (gingerbread cake and ginger crisps are my favorites) and I have fall leaves pressed between the pages. If you don’t own this book, you MUST have it!

Okay, end of commercial! 🙂 Love you, Susan!

  17. Becky in the mountains of West Virginia says:

Yea! Your autumn book is my favorite. I have it but will love to be able to get one for a gift to a friend. Happy Spring!

  18. Brenda Caldwell says:

Susan, your blog posts are food for my soul…I just love this one!

  19. Samantha says:

Yay!! I am so happy you are re-printing Autumn! I was just looking on Amazon the other day to order it but I am definitely going to wait now!! 🙂 You’ve accomplished so much and have inspired so many of us, you deserve this next step! How exciting!!

  20. Kerry S. from San Pedro, CA says:

Congratulations Susan – what a great idea! A long time planning I’m sure! I know that readers and merchants alike will be so excited to have your books available again! What a great spring gift to your many admirers!
Cheers and hugs all around! 🙂 <3

  21. Yes Susan you heard right! Snowflakes and icy rain here in Chicagoland! In this neck of the woods it was always safe to plant after Mothers Day, but with the climate changes of the last few years we can no longer plant that early. We are still having freeze warnings! As tempted as I am to purchase every flower and hanging basket I see at our garden center, I fight the urge and now wait until Memorial Day to safely set things out. We have our lilacs and fruit trees blooming now and our lawns are bright green so I’ll be happy with that for now! So happy to see that your books will be published again!! I of course have all first editions which I treasure and I have to say your Autumn book is among my favorites. I bring it out the first week of September and it helps get me in the mood for pumpkins and cider and roasted turkey, oh my! Best of luck in your new role as publisher! Time now for a hot cuppa.

    • sbranch says:

Yes, I’m sure you’re thinking, “this too shall pass” and it shall, we hope, soon. You have lilacs blooming, that’s just where we are too.

  22. Shannon (Pennsylvania) says:

Oh, Susan, as much as I love love love A Fine Romance, Autumn remains my favorite of all your books. It was my very first purchase of yours, a little over three years ago and right after I ” found” you and your blog. I will bring my copy with me to Danbury for you to sign (I’M SO EXCITED I CAN HARDLY STAND MYSELF!!!!) and I’ll order a new copy when they are available, too! Girlfriends, if you don’t have this book you don’t know what you’re missing. It’s a gem. Only thing is, Susan….when I pick up my Autumn book, Ashokan Farewell by Doc and the Lady starts playing in my head 🙂

    • sbranch says:

I think it does for me too. I can’t wait to write a book where I can include music. That will be a fun day. Can’t be too much longer now. If I wrote ebooks, I bet they can already do it for them. See you in Connecticut Shannon!

      • Laura Jenkins says:

..if you include sounds in your next book, don’t forget to add SMELLS…now, that would be perfect.

        • sbranch says:

I’ve always wished I could do that with the blog. But only me, I don’t think I would want everyone to have this super power! 🙂

  23. Helen says:

Adding Publisher to your list of achievements…..is there no end ?? Wow 🙂 I have a copy of Autumn that I enjoy over and over and always have on display in the fall as part of my seasonal decorations……For anyone who doesn’t have it……highly recommend 🙂 🙂
Any chance you might do the small booklets again? I am missing those in my “Susan B” collection and they are impossible to find……want them for myself of course but they make lovely small gifts as well. Happy newest adventure to you and Joe! Am assuming that you will be publishing your “move to the Island ” story under the Spring Street logo?

    • sbranch says:

As I get more familiar with what I can get from the printer, sizes, paper etc, I want to do other small books. But for me, it’s always one day at a time, everything being hand done as it is. Yes, the new book will also be Spring Street. Autumn will help us figure out how it’s done!

  24. Kelly H-Y says:

Autumn is my favorite season … great idea to start with that one! Huge congrats on the publishing company! Yay!!!

  25. Linda Joan says:

    Dear Susan,
Thank you for your wonderful post. I really enjoyed our visit.

  26. Janet Hundley - Grafton, WI says:

    Susan,
It’s wonderful that there will be a new printing of the Autumn Book, but I wouldn’t trade the years I’ve had with my “old” copy for anything!
    Happy Spring…

  27. Deborah Winter says:

    Hi Susan,

Loving Spring and your flowers are beautiful! My lilacs are just about to bloom and I have been asking around about Linden Trees–do they smell fabulous and if so what variety should I purchase? Have you every considered having the heart shelf (the one a friend made for you many moons ago reproduces for your girlfriends? You may even have more than one but I am thinking of the one you have in the Peter Rabbit bedroom. As alway, thanks for sharing on your blog!

    • sbranch says:

I have so many small wooden items I’ve designed, I would LOVE if there was a way to get them made, a bread box, spice shelves, wooden spoons, the heart shelf … lots of things. They’re all drawn out, I should show you on the blog sometime. Maybe I should just make the building plans for them, it’s not likely we find someone to make them.

      • CarolK says:

A little book of building plans, we could go for that! My hubby has a collection of wood working tools in the basement and always said that after he retired he’d build me things. Weeeell, he’s retired from the rat race now and I’d LOVE to give him a book of your’s by your own publishing company. This is one Joe could definitely collaborate with you on. Rainy, green, Lilly of the Valley hugs…

      • Deborah Winter says:

        That could definitely work!

  28. Nettie says:

happy happy flowers all over the place Susan, I have had the pleasure of doing some volunteer work at an amazing greenhouse in our town so I have been surrounded by flowers flowers flowers all week. There is nothing better after the winter we all put in. My gardens at home are amazing with a new surprise appearing every morning. Today the wisteria decided to grow six inches! We wait patiently all winter for the sights of today.
Love love love the girlfriends, I wouldn’t be who I am without mine. I really must plan a tea party in the garden soon…….want to come?

  29. Congrats on being your own publisher/printer/whatever it is called and that is wonderful!! Also this upcoming book looks exciting and I shall order it for my store!!!!

  30. Trisha K says:

Yay Spring! You are now a publisher, this must be very exciting! “Autumn” was my first SB-love, good choice for a first re-printing. 🙂 After too many dreary rainy days here in Missouri we finally have blue skies and sunshine today. I can’t wait to get outside to enjoy it and get my vitamin D!

  31. Susan, I am super happy to think about Autumn right now, it get my heart glowing with coziness like nothing else! My garden is bursting with flowers, and i love that, but my heart belongs to Autumn! I own the lovely Autumn book of yours, but happy that now it will be printed in the USA, and more people can enjoy it!
Happy summer to you, and thanks for sharing your spring! Big hugs!

  32. Jackie Bienemann says:

    Dear Susan,

I love the Autumn book, and no it does not have a ribbon:), but you signed it for me in Iowa City when you signed A Fine Romance. It was great meeting you and Joe. Thank you for sharing the spring flowers, our lilacs are blooming in central Illinois also. So glad you are publishing now and in the USA, that is awesome. Hope it goes well, I am missing a few of your books.
As always I enjoyed your post.

    Jackie

  33. Judy Dow says:

One of my September traditions is reading your Autumn book from cover to cover! Thanks again for signing it last fall in Illinois! Enjoy your beautiful island weather! Love, lucy

  34. Patricia Harris says:

I posted my comment under the wrong post before! I was saying that the lemon cake roll looks beautiful, but lilies-of-the-valley are highly poisonous! I love your blog!

    • sbranch says:

Yes they are tied together and lifted off in one piece and there was no leakage! 🙂 Thank you Patricia!

  35. Susan in SC says:

Your post today is nothing short of serendipitous! We are feeling very autumnal at house, as well, because we just found PUMPKIN PLANTS growing amongst our azaleas – a gift from a long forgotten Jack-o-lantern. If the plant survive, I have promised to make pumpkin pies for the Fourth of July! Isn’t life just wonderfully fun!
Big congratulations on becoming publishers. That is (and I rarely use this word) awesome!

  36. Martha Ellen of VA says:

Congratulations to Spring Street Publishing, Susan! How exciting! Your Autumn book is absolutely, positively, the best! It’s worth the price of admission for the brownie recipe alone. My husband adores that recipe and requests it often. I happen to love the Spiced Pecans that are so yummy, with just the right amount of spice. Thanks for making my world happier with your positivity! xoxo ♥

  37. Vickie Getty (Little Rock, AR) says:

Absolutely, positively, without-a-doubt the BEST news I’ve read in a long time! Yay for Susan!!

  38. I have the Autumn book (of course!) but will be buying another to show my support for Spring Street Publishing. Congratulations, Susan!

  39. Debs OBrien says:

Life, today, was great! Thank you for asking 🙂

I have been in the attic, rummaging around and bringing down old projects that I made in college and spent the day out on the lawn with Flossie {my dressmaking stand} playing dress ups and taking hundreds of photographs! She was very good and I think she enjoyed the changes of outfit and posing for photographs. So, a bit like you, ‘republishing’ only with you it is books, with me it is outfits.

So pleased to read this news today. I already have “Autumn” but will now be waiting patiently for the list to be worked through, and hope that they will be available Across The Pond.

We are having glorious weather, at least for a few days. It is bliss after the horrible, long winter storms. Grass is green, sky is blue, birds are singing, flowers are blooming, and it is warm enough to put the heating off all day!

Hugs from Across the Pond, Debs in Wales 🙂 xoxo

  40. Sue Giljum says:

Hi Susan, I can almost smell all the flowers you mentioned. Right now in St. Louis, Mo. we have a very cool 52 and cloudy. There was a chance of frost last night also. I think I have all your books, I love everything Susan Branch. When you mention a book, I go and get it and enjoy it all over. I have a small flower pot that my daughter gave me years ago, with you tiny flower design on it. I keep it packed away so nothing happens to it, but I might get it out now and enjoy it. Thank you for being you.

Oh, Susan, I add my congratulations to the already loud chorus! Publishing Autumn again is a fantastic idea! And now the outstanding achievement of starting your own publishing company sets another great mark. Yeah Women!!!! I told you in a letter that it is my favorite of your books(as I see it is with many others) and I was just reading it yesterday for fun and it is always better and more chock-full that I remember. Those of you who do not have this book, don’t miss this opportunity!!! And many of us who do have it will of course have to have this one , too, since it will be your maiden publishing voyage! (please forgive if I have set off the site’s exclamation point alarm–you have that effect on me)

Thanks also for the continued spring pictures. Here in MN we had 37degrees last night and though trees are starting to leaf out there are no blossoms at all yet. So no planting here either as I see mentioned in other places. Your blog is an absolute tonic.

    • sbranch says:

I have disabled the exclamation mark alarm on this blog, otherwise we would get nowhere around here!!! You are going to get two springs, one here, and one there!

  42. Robin says:

Your girl kitty and Jack are always fun to see in photos. Thank you for sharing. We recently rescued a black and white kitty! She is teeny and had been living on the streets for years. I finally got her to trust me enough to grab her. She’s now living the good life. They just make things better in every way. Looking forward to your book being published again. Good for you!!! Thank you for choosing to print in the USA!

  43. shirley burt says:

Oh how envious the “big” publishers will be when they realize what a jewel they have lost. Your girlfriends will be your champions. I cannot wait to order Autumn, I do not have that book and if I did, a ribbon book is oh so much nicer. Thank you bunny bunches once again, Susan for branching out and sharing all your adventures with all of us that love and admire you.
Happy Spring adventures, Happy Autumn dreaming !!!!!
    Much love and bunny hugs,
    Shirley

    • sbranch says:

I do feel like this is a pretty good example of making lemonade! And the reason I can is because of “my champion” girlfriends.

  44. Beth says:

OK, Madame Publisher….new idea for another SB project to Publish!!!
“The Girlfriends Guide to Playing House!”…or whatever!

I wish you would compile into ONE condensed volume all your Words of Wisdom, Advice, and Helpful Household hints for Happy Homemaking (inside and outside the house!)!!! A compilation of all those WONDERFUL IDEAS you’ve previously shared in your blog into ONE Hands-on Ready Reference that we can grab in the moment and use at home. For example, just this week I was trying to remember how exactly you described cleaning silver in the sink with aluminum foil…and it took forever to track down the original post so I could follow it. Instead, HOW GRAND it would be to quickly grab my SB Home Reference Book and look it up!
I’ve learned so much from you….I just can’t remember it all…all the time!
Removing melted candle wax, using large handled baskets to collect old garden weeds, the proper way to season wooden cutting boards, pre-sifting flour, creating fun and seasonal tablescapes, or simple ideas for bringing the “outside inside”. Your embrace and enthusiasm for life is contagious…and your lovely, simple, authentic touches in the home inspire us all to create our own hearths of beauty in our own little corners of the world! Whadya think???

    • sbranch says:

I think YOU are the sweetest thing! And that’s a wonderful idea for a book! Thank you for calling me Madam Publisher! 🙂

  45. Barbara (from Argentina) says:

what a great idea to re-published Autumn Book. I don´t know when I´m going to be able to buy one, but it´s good to know that it´s going to be out there, for when I can! I´ve seen pictures of it in your blog and I would love to have one!

    • sbranch says:

We can send it to you through our web store . . . it won’t be in until August, but you can arrange that with the studio.

  46. Georgeann from Texas says:

I’m so excited you are reprinting your book. I love my copy and have given away
three or four but now I can buy more for special friends! I’m always telling
old and new friends to check out Susan Branch!

  47. Tisa@SeattleRetro says:

Autumn? How did I miss it 🙂 Happy I didn’t! Thanks for all the wonderful photos on your blog, I love seeing the home/yard/local scenery & hearing the stories behind them (are those all original photos of your home & folks that lived there? Wow, love that.) Had some beautiful days here in Seattle, took some yard photos myself (not on my knees yet) and put on my Pinterest board “ChicTiques Cafe Views” if you want to see what spring looks like here 🙂 One good thing about living here vs Cali–we DO have seasons & that always seems like such a glorious surprise every time! Happy Friday, Lady ♥

  48. Margot in Virginia Beach says:

Congratulations on self-publishing! I like the ribboned books, but I will have to put my own in the Autumn book that I have. I really liked the Autumn and Summer books!!! Autumn is really good, because that is when we all really get back into the kitchen after a hot summer.

My mom passed away today, and I think that these last years were easier to handle with your blog teaching us to cherish all the memories and things from our mothers’ and grandmothers’ kitchens. Ahh…the everyday home arts. Keeping traditions alive.
    Margot

    • sbranch says:

Today? Margot? No. I hope not. xoxo

      • Margot in Virginia Beach says:

Yes today. Today is our wedding anniversary too. Oh well. Thanks for the hugs and kisses!!! Here are some back to you. OXOX

        • judi says:

So sorry Margot. Whilst on the silver lining to the stars our loved ones leave the treasured happy memories here with us. judi

        • shirley burt says:

Oh Margot, I am so very sorry . I lost my mother 5 years ago. How hard it will be for you. Keep those memories close and little things that will instantly bring her memory closer.

    • I’m so very sorry Margot. It’s so difficult to lose your Mother. Prayers from me for you and your family!

    • Lynn McMahon says:

~ Hi Margot~ So sorry to hear about your Mom ~ I miss mine every day ~ you are in my prayers ~

        • Margot in Virginia Beach says:

Thanks to you girlfriends for all the kind wishes. I am glad that my mom doesn’t have anymore pain, she’s not been well since my high school years and I am 50+! Kidney cancer in the last two years. She and my dad are resting on a beautiful mountain in PA now. (Dad’s hometown.)

  49. JAMIE HOPKINS says:

YEAH! I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE BOOK! I’M TRYING TO COLLECT THEM ALL!

  50. Ellen Johnson says:

Congratulations on your new adventure in publishing. When I saw the name, Spring Street Publishing, I thought, oh, my grandparents once lived on Spring Street, in Huntington, NY. And their last name was Hall and they were from England. They came to America in 1913. In little ways I feel connected to you; my niece and her husband used to live on Martha’s Vineyard in Menemsha; they ran the little gift shop, The dog on the Roof. and for a year or two a deli next door. I never got to visit them unfortunately. But now I get to visit the island with you. Thank you for sharing your life with us, your beautiful home and garden, your kitties and your artwork and recipes. I look forward to the new Autumn book.

  51. Kelly says:

Such good news! Autumn was always my favorite of your books. (Although, Christmas is a close second!) Can’t wait to snatch up a few copies for my sister + friends. 🙂

  52. Sweet Sue says:

How’s Life? Life is GRAND 🙂 and like you I am really enjoying the springtime and was amused to find that I am not the only one who opens the door to enjoy hearing the birds singing…..such joyous merriment on their part!
Congratulations on “Spring Street Publishing” and right there in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts !!!! Love your logo and especially the freedom you will now have to choose your own special touches such as a ribbon in your books—I think a cinnamon colored ribbon would be just beautiful!!! And Autumn is one of your books which I do not have…..how exciting to get one in August. Actually put me down for 3 signed copies as I not only would like to have one for myself, yet also one for my sister and good bud from across the U.S. of A.
Also will keep in mind that June 11th is the 3rd Anniversary of the Susan Branch Blog….so Vanna get ready for another fabulous drawing! 🙂
You know since becoming acquainted with your blog I have visited a few others here and there and yours in my humble opinion is the best by far! YOU GO GIRL!!! HOORAY!!! You must pinch yourself at times and say is all this for real….you have been a blessing to so many and in doing so have been blessed! 🙂
Thanks once again for sharing the bounty of your blessings with us…..I for one am thankful….for you and all you have given of yourself to others…..and that I purchased one of your address books awhile back which led to my one day going to your web site and all the rest is history. 🙂 Enjoy your gardening , your writing and know in your heart that your life is an ever widening ripple that has reached far and wide to bring JOY to others! Hugs Girlfriend!! 🙂

    • sbranch says:

I am black and blue from pinching! Everyday. Life is good, and having this blog and meeting sweet people like YOU, has made it even better.

  53. elizabeth says:

    As your book is about the Autumn and you love England, here is a poem I wrote;

    My English Autumn

The silent fall of gloriously golden leaves that line the nests of hibernating hedgehogs for their long winter’s deep sleep.

The patter of raindrops falling rhythmically onto the surrendered leaves of the peaceful autumnal Forest.

Cosy evenings cuddled up by the fire toasting crumpets with life’s sweet love.

The farm cat no longer snoozing in the open sun but snuggled deep in a warm barn filled with the scent of meadow sweet hay.

Clear crisp serene sunny mornings sprinkled with the generous offering of the previous night’s frost.

The freshly built spiders’ web gentle swaying in the mornings crisp air decorated with nature’s diamonds of glistening dew.

Valley mists sweeping silently along before disappearing as mysteriously as they arrived.

Bright wellies splashing gaily in crystal clear puddles.

The tidying of Autumns unwanted gold and bronze leaves culminating in the scent of a crackling bonfire encircled by the cheerful chatter of children warming their chilled fingers.

Yelps! of delight as boisterous boys tempt the magnificent horse chestnut trees to surrender their shinning bounty.

    That’s my English Autumn.

    Elizabeth Lloyd

    • sbranch says:

I love that! Such lovely images!

    • Margot in Virginia Beach says:

      I just LOVE poems! Thanks.

    • judi says:

      VERY pretty:)

    • Sweet Sue says:

      Just loved your poem Elizabeth!

It is just perfect as it relates to the season of Autumn and to England! 🙂

Ever think of having your poems published? I could see you doing a series of little books each featuring a different season full of your seasonal poems each with illustrations – maybe Susan could do the illustrations?? 🙂 You could gear them towards the joys of childhood during each season and have them be children’s books. They could be titled….”Joys of Spring”, “Joys of Summer”, “Joys of Autumn” and “Joys of Winter”.

In any event you blessed my day, dear sweet Elizabeth. Did you know that the name “Elizabeth” means “consecrated to God”? A beautiful name. 🙂

      Hugs,
      Sweet Sue

    have a wonderful weekend Susan
    deezie

  55. I missed out on the Autumn book, and have been wanting one! I’m so excited that I will get my chance now! Hooray! …ain’t spring grand? I know that isn’t proper grammar. Have a great weekend girlfriends!

    • sbranch says:

Sometimes, as Mark Twain knew, proper grammar just doesn’t work. Giddiness is one of those times!

  56. Nancy West says:

I am SO happy for you! You are just too much! Can’t wait to order a NEW/OLD SUSAN BRANCH BOOK!

  57. Nancy Mosley says:

Congrats on becoming publishers too!! Here in the Midwest we’ve been cold all week even dipping back into the 30’s at night. Quite cool – having to dig back out some cool weather clothes. But next week it turns the corner back to the 80’s!!!

  58. Ruth Thomas says:

Absolutely thrilled for you! There isn’t anything better than having control over your own work….and I’m sure just more thrilling things ahead. Love every single thing you do. and especially love the Spring Street reference since I grew up on Spring Street in Newport, RI. We lived right up the street from the ferry that connected Newport to the Mainland in those days – today there is a huge, long bridge. So I love your logo! So looking forward to the next book. I don’t know how you keep up with everything. Which reminds me, I need to start spring cleaning!

  59. Deborah.T.Norling says:

What wonderful news about being your own publisher and…seeing all the photos and recipes for the fall..brought back the same exact exciting feeling I get every year in September when it’s time to pull out the Autumn book that I already own and celebrate the gateway to all the very b e s t season’s that follow .

I also wanted you to know how much I’ve enjoyed welcoming…the “foxy whiskered gentleman” into my home from your store….I had hoped for him once before and missed out..and was soo happy to see he was available a few weeks ago….now he’s mine a l l mine !

  60. A publisher? But, of course! When I read this post, I had to go look at my collection of SB books and alas, I do not have Autumn. Now I have something to look forward to. Doing the happy dance.

  61. Robyn Genau says:

    Thanks Susan,
Have been bummed out all day. Am furloughed from my job which I didn’t see coming. Was checking to see if there was a new blog and yes there was. Made me smile and laugh for the first time today. Thank you for making it feel better. Robyn

  62. Sharlene Piscitelli says:

You have made my day to know that I will soon be able to get some of your older books–and published by you to make them extra special! Thanks for taking on this endeavor. Have a terrific weekend and a splendid Spring!

  63. Mona in Riverbank CA says:

I found your Autumn book in Provo, UT, back in 2007 while I was visiting my daughter. There were a stack of them, but I only got one. After I got home to California and read it cover to cover, I wished I had bought the whole stack! (I live by the motto: “If one is good, more is better!) I currently have 3 on my shelf, and I read it every fall and then use it as part of my autumn decor. When the new one with a ribbon is here (so looking forward to that), I will have one of those as well. I love having extra so I can share with new friends. Since autumn is my favorite season, I vibe to anything autumny. I was blessed to be able to spend a week in New England in the fall 20 years ago and left part of my heart there.

I love your lilac pictures – I can almost smell them! We don’t have too many here in our area, but I think I am going to find some mild weather ones and plant a few. Nothing says spring like lilacs.

Seven years ago I didn’t know anything about you, and now you are a joy in my life. You brighten my day and my kitchen and my kitty heart. Thank you for sharing yourself with all of us. Love you, Susan! =^..^=

  64. Jane F. says:

How exciting, Susan! Congratulations on your own publishing company. Love the title and logo! You two are an inspiration!! Fun to follow along and see what’s coming next!! We are moving forward. . . slowly! But we are not going backward!! One of these days. . .!! Best with all your Spring events!!

    • sbranch says:

Forward is the name of the game Jane xoxo Still remember our night at the bookstore in Oklahoma!

  65. Sandy Engel says:

Susan!!!!! How incredibly wonderful!!!!!!! Your own publishing company!!!!!! Perfect idea for you!!!!! So excited!!! And Thank You for so many who will get to enjoy your books if they didn’t see them the first time around…….so exciting!!!!!!!!

  66. Debbie says:

I’m so happy ! I can’t even tell you how many times I have taken “Autumn” out of our library to read over and over, to enjoy the wonderful artwork and of course to make some of my favorite recipes. (They really should just offer to get me one, but they haven’t!). So I am just thrilled that you are going to publish the original again and add ribbons too!! Thanks. I’ll be watching and waiting to sign up for one as soon as they become available for pre-order. Have a great weekend.

  67. kellypea says:

CONGRATS on becoming your own publisher! And I love the Spring/Autumn post all in one 🙂 They’re my favorite seasons in San Diego — plus I’m missing that book in my collection, so excited that you’re doing that one first! Thanks so much for all of your lovely photos and I swear I can smell the aroma of the flowers on your street from here.

  68. Carilyn Wolski says:

Hello Susan! Congratulations on your very new hat you now wear as a publisher!!!! Can’t wait to order Autumn, my Susan Branch book collection definitely needs more additions! My first Spring having oodles of Forget-Me-Nots coloring my flower beds with delicate purple blossoms……a gift from my elderly neighbor down the street who shared from her yard. They are my new Spring flower! Waiting for my Sweet Williams to bloom, can’t wait! Have a wonderful Spring weekend Susan!

  69. peg says:

I am over the moon wild-with-delight at the news of the return of the Autumn book!!!! Love, love, LOVE that book (as so many of the girlfriends do!!)!! And, I will be ordering another copy for myself so the march of the book ribbons will be complete!!!

Congratulations on your new publishing venture! Wow! Now, you CAN be in control!!! Such exciting adventures, Sue!

We literally just pulled in from our trek to Pismo. It was beautiful but oh, so hot! 104!!! Cambria has closed most of their public restrooms. Hearst Castle has drained their pools…all in an effort to conserve what water they have left! We had a fun time …. it was too hot to even venture to the pool…so we antiqued and ate and then retreated to the hotel where the a/c kept us in check!!

    Thanks for keeping us posted….♥

    xoxo peg

    • sbranch says:

It’s hard to imagine Pismo and foggy Cambria in such a state! I don’t like it! What are we going to do about this . . . did you see the fire tornado near San Diego, a long line of fire that went up to the sky just like a tornado? YIKES! xoxo saying a prayer for those fire fighters. Wasn’t this whole publishing idea yours Peg?

      • peg says:

….oh, Sue! Maybe it was my idea…but the BEST part of this idea is that it is going to happen! Oh, so, SO exciting!!! As for the ‘drought’… I’m about ready to call up some Native Americans to do a serious rain dance! I mean, really! I have not seen the central coast so *toasted*!

San Diego is a mess…and, I have to salute those who have chosen to be firefighters. Heroes, every one! They say that we should have some cooling beginning tonight….film @ 11 on that one!

Anyhoo, I’m simply thrilled for your latest venture!!! I’ll keep sending those midnight ideas to you….who knows what will tickle your fancy next?!!!?!!

        xo xo love you! peg

Love to read about and see the Spring blooming on the Vineyard, sweeter after such a harsh winter. I do not have this book, love to have it in my library of peace and lovely things! !

  71. Lynn Slosson says:

As always, thank you for your BLOG! So happy to hear about the publishing anew of the AUTUMN book! I have one, and I love it! But tonight, I must pull down the SUMMER book – have cousins coming for dinner tomorrow night and it is HOT AS BLAZES in our neck of the Southern California! And, we are fortunately NOT near any fires! Horrible stuff, fires!
Not sure what we will have for dinner, but I have dessert all picked out – Ice Cream with Granola and Caramel Sauce! Absolutely my favorite! Thank you for your inspiration every day!

  72. Cindy Boggs says:

    Hi, Susan-
I always get so excited when I see a new addition to your blog! Today’s was wonderful, as always! That is very exciting about you becoming a publisher. I have almost all of your books, and the Autumn one is a definite favorite.
I have a question for you– now that you are a publisher, is there any chance that you could publish some of the Gladys Tabor books? I understood that they are out of print, but I have always wanted to read them. Just a thought!
    Thanks!

    • sbranch says:

Well, it would depend on the owners of the copyright for those books. We think about publishing others, but need to learn more first.

  73. Lovely Spring Fever and Autumn Longing all in one post!
Such exciting news to add “publisher” to your curriculum vitae.
Do you ever see yourself publishing works from other authors? Who knows?, whole budding worlds of influence may await you. Love it!!!

BTW, Have you read any of Kerry Greenwood’s work? Think you’d like it-she has two mystery series (Phryne Fisher, Corrina Chapman) and countless other wonderful works. You both are tirelessly creative. Must be why I wondered to ask. 😉

    • sbranch says:

I’ve thought maybe, but we have quite a ways to go to figure it all out so we would do it right. I will look up Kerry Greenwood, I’m not familiar with her.

  74. Kathryn says:

That is a great post, Susan. I’ve been planting like crazy here (NJ) all week, too! Every day the forecast is for rain, but we get sunny skies instead. Today though is rainy! Finally caught up with us. And it’s my birthday. So wet skies aren’t bothering me at all! Have a happy day!

  75. Ann says:

THIS is the most exciting news! My Autumn book has been well loved over the years. Probably time to purchase a new copy…… 🙂

  76. Debbie P. ~ Weedsport, NY says:

I so admire your wisdom, creativity and vision…of COURSE you are a publisher! When you want something done a certain way….who better to do it than YOU?! I’m happy for your happiness!
    xoDebbie
PS: Autumn is my favorite of your “children”.

  77. Jane says:

What a breath of air!! 2 seasons! Ahhhh moment for sure!

  78. Terri says:

First, congratulations on your new publishing venture! I’m so happy to hear that Autumn and your other books will become available again! I have Summer and have always wanted Autumn.
Now comes the hard part…I have to tell you I am SO glad that you and Lowely and your other friends who ate the cakes are alive and well. Violets (my favorite flower) are quite edible and while Lilies of the valley are just beautiful, they are very poisonous! Even the water in the vessel that has held them can become toxic, so it’s best to not even keep a vase of them in the house if you have pets or small children that could potentially drink from it (there’s an actual case of a girl dying from doing just that) or who could nibble on any part of them. But the good news is – you’re all alive & well! Whew! Could you please let other’s know? I worry…
I do love them though and have taught my children and grandchildren a lovely old song about them – ‘White Coral Bells.’ Have you heard it? As odd synchronicity would have it, my younger daughter who lives in another state just posted a video on our family page this morning for me, of my little 3 yr old grandgirl, Violet (!) singing that very song! And no sooner had I watched (and teared up) and commented on it, than I came to the FOSB update saying you had a new post. The Universe is a strange and wonderful place…
Back to the books – I know you’ll be making not only the girlfriends but so many other people happy with your new venture! A shopkeeper told me just a couple of weeks ago when I happily exclaimed about seeing your book there, that she had never sold so many books as she has of ‘A Fine Romance’ and how she wished your other books were still in print. So I think that’s a good portent for your new venture. I am so looking forward to seeing all your new (and old) books!

    • sbranch says:

I read about them first, but then I dried the stems, wrapped them with the ribbon so everything stayed together, and set them lightly on the cake. I didn’t think it would matter, because we’re all grown ups and not about to eat them. But you are very right in your concern. Yes, White Coral Bells, that was one of my Girl Scout Camp songs “lilies of the valley down my garden walk . . .” Thank you Terri, I hadn’t thought of that song in a long time!

      • Chris Wells Knickerbocker, W TX says:

Oh don’t you wish, that you could hear them ring? That will happen only when the fairies sing!

Thanks Terri for the sweet memories!
        Chris

  79. Marysol says:

One of my favorite books, as is the pumpkin cheesecake (which I blogged about last fall). I do try to watch my waistline, so I only had a sliver of cheesecake–and if I’m lying–may lighting stri . . . (thunder rolls).

Seriously, this book is the equivalent of a hug, or a kneading session from your favorite feline.

  80. mary spring says:

..hello, dear Susan and friends… ‘been visiting in the pacific northwest with my youngest grandson (who was born last August) and his awesome parents !!..’LOVE the air here, btw !!.. we just got back from our park which has a huge lilac garden..needless to say, it was beyond amazing !!.. ‘glad you mentioned the folks down in California, dealing with those fires.. 81. Barbara Weaver says:

The best part of your blog was going back to reread your “meeting the Beatles” story. I remember when they came to the U. S. and my “Beatle-maniac” high school friends went into Pittsburgh to see them! I would never have had the nerve to do what you and Karen did back then. But your bravery paid off! I wonder if Ringo and Sir Paul would remember you if you met them again today?
    Happy Spring to you, too!

    • sbranch says:

Oh yes, I have no doubt, we made such an impression, like a blade of grass on a golf course! 🙂 It doesn’t matter, we remember them!

  82. Susan Cardot Lance says:

    Hi Susan

You just helped me find the present I am sending my daughter back to college with. She loves your books but does not have the Autumn one. Thank you, thank you for reprinting this and Congratulations on your own Publishing company! Woo Hoo~ (oh, and thank you so much for adding the ribbon…)

    Susan

  83. Joann says:

I am SO EXCITED to hear about your publishing company and made in the US!!!! That is just so fantastic!! Autumn is one of my favorite books….so many good things are in that one…..and after summer and the bounty of a garden, Fall ‘Harvest’ makes us all ready to start cooking hearty dishes once again!
    Great choice!!
I have lots of news to share, but don’t want to let the bunny out of the bag just yet….there’s a few things that need to get ironed out and then you’ll be one of the first to hear about it!!
    Thank you for your inspiration…
    xoxo

  84. Mary Rice says:

Yea!!! I want one! I purchased your Autumn book for our daughter, but did not get one for myself. Oops! I love your books, I am so glad you are publishing this one again. Thank you.

  85. Lisa Nelson-Jones East Tn says:

Congratulations on your exciting new endeavor! I think a beautiful rich orange ribbon would be so pretty in the Autumn book. I did not notice it was missing a ribbon! I think I have all your books with the exception of a few mini books that are so hard to find- I have the “flowers” one, and the “little birdies” one- but I’ve had my eye out for years desperate for the “Halloween” one. I occasionally see them on Amazon, but can’t afford the $75-$150 price tag, but if I could, I would of snatched them up!! I was pleased to see on FB I still have almost all of the stickers that were shown- which I shamelessly hoard.

  86. Karen Reid says:

Hi Susan, Always enjoy hearing about you, Joe and the Kitties. I am also excited to hear that you are now Self Publishing. I have purchased your very first book, used, over the Internet, and love it! I was thinking about looking for more but since the new ones will have “THE Ribbon, I will wait. I too would like some for gift giving and timing will be right for Christmas gifts. Your blogs are like a “Letter from Home”, do enjoy them and look for them in my e-mail first thing every morning. Enjoy you wonderful Spring days, and please put me on the “To be notified list” when “Autumn” is ready for shipment. Thank you so much. Karen Reid

Love my Autumn book and the lemon roll…beautiful with the violets and lily-of-the-valley!

  88. Judy says:

I love my Autumn book. I even keep it on the coffee table starting Sept. 1. But I would love to have several of the others that I missed through the years, especially with the ribbons. I have recently taken a bookbinding workshop and the opportunity to put my choice of ribbons in my creations is one of the exciting bonuses that I didn’t anticipate!
But my favorite of your creations is still the Desiderata poster. I could have resold mine dozens of times– people constantly ask if I would be willing to sell it.

    • sbranch says:

I’d really like to remake that poster ~ I love the message! But I did that back in a time where there wasn’t a copyright on it, since then, someone has laid claim to it and use is strictly verboten. I am so happy you got one.

  89. Lorraine says:

Hip, hip hooray and congratulations! So happy to hear about the reprint of Autumn. I do not have it, so will most definitely order one.

  90. Suzanne says:

    Susan, can your sweet island
is leaps and bounds ahead of us
here in Minnesota! We are still
in the daffodil and tulip stage ~
not a forsythia or lilac in sight.
    Talk about a looonnnggg winter!

I could smell the spring perfume
in your words and feel the smile in
them, too. Thanks for this little
    whiff of happiness!

    xo Suzanne

  91. Christine Perica says:

When I turn my computer on each day your blog is the first place I check. My heart leaps when I see a new posting. I’m so thankful for your beautiful creations and that you spend the time to share them with us. Enjoy Spring! It has finally arrived in northern New Mexico where columbine are blooming, aspen leaves shimmering and the fabulous cloud dotted blue skies greet us daily.

    • sbranch says:

They are famous. When we go through there on the train it’s all strong clear colors, blue (sky) white (adobe and clouds) red (dirt) and green (trees). And with columbine!

  92. Mary Cunningham says:

Thank you Susan! For all the little sweet things you “gift” us with, like the ribbons, your adorable drawings, kitty antics, yummy pictures, and the fact we haven’t met, doesn’t matter ,we know you love each and every one of us! We love you too! Thanks for letting me be one of the “girlfriends! Happy Spring! Love and “sparkles” …Mary

  93. Sandy says:

Seeing as how I’m a late-comer to the world of Susan Branch, I am thrilled at the prospect of getting my hands on your old/new books!!! I can hardly wait. And I love the idea of printing the names of your dinner guests on those pretty green leaves and oh, the smell of lilacs and wisteria. It’s the little things, isn’t it Susan? Put them all together and they make the big things. Looking forward to “Autumn”.

    • sbranch says:

Yes, it sure is the little things. Jack just got in the chair next to me and cuddled up. My cup runneth over!

  94. Mary Hobart says:

Your “Autumn” is the favorite of all my books. Living here south of Boston, it’s also my favorite time of year.

  95. Karen P. - Wisconsin says:

Congrats, Ms. Publisher! You really do it all! So happy that you will be printing your books again….for the sake of your many new fans. Your Autumn book is how I “discovered” you so it is my fave. It’s become nearly impossible to find so now many new fans will be blessed! Love seeing your Spring splendor! Still chilly and pretty ” colorless” here in northern WI but will be nice soon! xo

    • sbranch says:

Yes, you have so much to look forward to! It’s all coming. I want ours to slow down and last another month, it’s so pretty.

  96. Heartsdesire says:

Congratulations on becoming a publisher, what a wonderful new chapter in your life, Susan. And so glad you chose “Autumn” as your first book, it’s one of my favourites. So many good recipes for any time of the year, and lots of wonderful decorating ideas. And I love your cute logo.

  97. Debbie says:

It has been so gloomy, dark, cold and rainy all week here in IL that I have been feeling a bit down today. Then, I read your lovely post and it really lifted my spirit! As much as I enjoy Spring, Autumn is my favorite season, so I am very happy that I will be able to purchase your Autumn book! Thank-you!

  98. Dinahsoar says:

I’m happy to hear you will be publishing the Autumn book!!! My dil paid dearly for a used copy of it on Ebay. It was the only way for her to get a copy–she dearly loves Fall, as I do. It is one of my favorite times of the year and reading about it even now that Spring has barely sprung, gives me great pleasure. And makes me long to visit New England in autumn again. Maybe someday–sigh. Girl kitty looks like she is ‘adoring’ Jack while he is eating kibble from his bowl on the table. Maybe she is waiting to play with him?…from the hills of TN

  99. Isabel says:

    Hi Susan,

Thank you so much for reprinting your early editions. I am one of the ones who did not discover you until after they were all gone. Still don’t know how I never had come across your work earlier.

How can I make sure I get a copy of the Autumn book? Wouldn’t want to miss out a 2nd time.

I can’t wait to try out some of the recipes.

  100. LindaB says:

I’m so tickled you’re publishing your books again! I have all of them, but when I see copies at yard sales and antique stores I pick them up and give them as gifts! And I’m especially happy you’re doing the Autumn book first. Years ago, at a well-known bookstore, I came across about 8 copies of it on the clearance shelf. Well, I snatched them up and bought them all (after I informed the cashier these books did NOT belong on a clearance shelf. They are keepsakes and deserve a place of honor!!!) And I just gave the last one away last Christmas. I look forward to buying more for gifts. Everyone I’ve given them to absolutely loves them and want to know where they can get the others. Thank You!!! YAY!!
