Today we’re going to mix it up, a snow walk and a garden give-away all in the same post! MUSICA for slow dancing, Girlfriends. . .
Yesterday, for the first time in weeks, maybe even months, we had a sunshiny, lovely 42º. We scrambled into our boots and RAN ourselves out the door, for the first walk in all of that time!!! Our lawn is still covered in snow, but it’s quietly beginning to melt making a continuous little river down our driveway, joining the slightly bigger river on the street, and heading down hill to the harbor. We weren’t sure what the dirt road that takes us out to the ocean would look like, but we were willing to try, especially when we saw what was going on in the maple tree outside the kitchen window:
The photo isn’t clear, but that’s OK, those orange spots are Robins! If this beautiful day is good enough for them, it’s good enough for us!
so here we go
. . . walking very gingerly . . . It was melting, like a slushy in some parts (the good parts) but there were long lumps of shiny wet ice, and some nice stretches of mud. . . We plot which direction we should fall in case we need to, realizing no one brought a phone, if he breaks his leg, he lays there while I “run” for help. It would be sad.
The birds were singing, Joe’s trying to figure out where the sound is coming from . . .
See him? Way up top in the middle of the picture? He looks white but he’s a goldfinch, he can’t clap his hands so he shows his happiness with song.
The goldfinch has a really nice view! When we walked out of the canopy of the woods, we had our first view of the pond ~ we could see it was still partially frozen . . .
But I have to say, despite how cold it looks, the warm sun on our faces felt as much like spring as breathing into a bouquet of daffodils! Off came my hat and gloves, unzipped goes the jacket. THAT’S how nice it was out there!
I’m always behind him . . . he waits, as the ever-patient guy that he is, hands on hips . . .
Can’t just walk right by this little red fisherman’s shack and not stop for a photo . . . crazy man.
See those broken square-looking things on the ground (talking mostly to the Californians and Floridians right now)? They are giant ice chips. When a car goes through a partly frozen puddle, the ice breaks up and scatters. That’s something you don’t see all the time. See how patient Joe is while I take pictures of them?
We made it to the water, and I have to tell you, it wasn’t easy…. First we had to go through the deep snow in the yard of our friend’s house, then across their deck . . .
And down that very furthest set of stairs ~ see it back there? After that, finding a high-ish tide, we had to climb over each rock-piled breakwater, maybe five of them . . . yes, you’re right, I know what you’re thinking, it was heaven out there. (BTW, while we’re away from home, we had our bedroom windows wide open (for the first time this year); the ceiling fan was on full blast blowing out winter air and exchanging it for fresh spring air, and we knew we were going to sleep like babies after our walk to the sea!)
We discovered that others had been there first.
And then, beach booty! Big piece of dark blue beach glass!
More ice chips. I kind of love them. Like to break them with my toe. Makes a good noise. Two nature things happened out there that I didn’t take pictures of: A.) (Pat, you should probably skip this part.) Because some rather large animal was dead. I didn’t look because in my accidental half-second glance I could see it was all elbows, knees and feathers and other less identifiable furry parts, and despite my well-known interest in science, this was really not my cup of tea. Joe looked, he decided it was a coyote AND a turkey, entwined together on the beach. Wow! We skirt by it, my eyes covered with my hat, and we fall immediately into Morning Science discussion: First off “are there coyotes on the island?” I didn’t think so. Otherwise I’ve been living in a fool’s paradise thinking we had no kitty-eaters on Martha’s Vineyard. So, let’s say it was a deer. A deer and a turkey? “They don’t fight, they don’t eat each other.” So then here’s what must have happened: That thing (whatever it is, but it can’t be a coyote) killed the turkey, then, sadly, but deservedly, choked on a bone, fell over and died on top of it. (I just realized, this is kind of like talking about Downton Abbey.)
Anyway, lovely leaves embalmed in ice. The other nature thing we saw was a pair of birds mating on the road. That was a first, I have never seen birds do that. As a scientist, I had never thought about what those little devils did when we left them alone. We thought they were dead at first, they weren’t moving at all, we didn’t even know there were two of them, till Joe looked closer to figure out which side was up, because this was one weird looking bird. More Morning Science ensued when all of a sudden, the girl escaped! OK, I did get a picture of the chase . . .
This is the little father, in hot pursuit! Ah, spring. Quite the adventure!
Tire tracks become puddles . . . Look around, where is the best place to put your foot? Safest would probably be IN the water.
Time to go home . . . so far we have 100% not fallen down!
And we manage to keep it that way! Usually our walk is 45 minutes, yesterday it was an hour and a half. That’s from making sure we didn’t break our necks.
Front row seat to the melting of the snow. (OMG, is he not the most adorable thing in the world?)
So we all know the snow will go . . .
And waiting for us, under all the ice are our little snow drops (these are from last year, this year’s crop is frozen stiff right now, but soon). Because, it’s coming, only another week until official . . .
And in honor of the moment, when we are all teetering on the verge of spring, I would love for one of you to enjoy my favorite garden book of all time . . .
It’s called Kitchen Gardens, an unassuming little book wonderfully written by Mary Mason Campbell with illustrations by Tasha Tudor.
But it’s by far the most inspiring garden book I’ve ever read. There are other books with much more detailed information, and definitely glossier pictures, but no book has ever moved me into the garden faster and happier than this one.
It was published in 1971 and I was lucky enough to happen upon it as my first garden book. “I love how Mary Campbell wrote about the “sunshine, fresh air, and privacy of our gardens. . .”
I thought I would sign this book for you and also add a watercolor bookmark (I’ve been cutting up the bits of paper I use for testing my pen or watercolors and making bookmarks out of them).
If you want to be entered for this giveaway, all you have to do is scroll to the bottom of this post and look for the tiny word “comments” — and leave a comment. Your comment can be just one word if you like; that will be enough to enter you for the drawing. For those of you who get my blog via email, you will have to go to www.162.240.10.175/~susanbs3/susanbranch/ and scroll to the very bottom of this post and find that tiny word . . . “comments” ~ for some reason, they don’t seem to send a “comment” button in an emailed blog.
Last but not least. I told you I finished the new calendars for 2016? I thought I would give you a little preview . . . This is “October” for the wall-calendar, and don’t worry, there are pink pumpkins on the bottom part.♥ For thee, from me. ♥
Something else for thee: click on “shopping” at the top of the blog, scroll to the bottom of the column on the left, click on FREE STUFF! Spring-themed stationery, bookmarks, tags — and computer wallpaper!
And just one more thing I wanted to tell you: My (our, because I’m always thinking of you when I’m writing) new book is being edited even as we speak. That means the writing part is almost done, after that I’ll paint it and add the photos and hopefully we’ll have it in about six months, maybe by the time we make our first fires next autumn. I know the title. But I’m afraid to say it out loud yet. So let me get used to it, maybe next time! You’ll be the first to know!
Until we meet again . . . Love you, love us.♥ XOXO
P.S. Don’t forget . . . St. Patrick’s Day is coming!
What a nice walk we had together. Here in St. Louis we had a touch of spring (71 degrees) I seen my first crocus too. A yellow and a purple one. Ah Spring must be right around the corner. I would love to win your book, please.
Oh Susan, I can’t wait for your new book. Hurry Hurry !! Hi Joe…
Lovely photo posts! Loved the beach booty! That’s my favorite thing to do when we are by the ocean! Spring is finally here…won’t be too much longer!
Yea! Spring is in the air. Thank you for taking us on your walk. I was so excited that the temp reached 47 here in the Buffalo NY area yesterday that I started to wash windows…nice to get the winter yuck off and let the sunshine in. Still so much snow, haven’t seen grass or gardens yet but I know they are in there someplace….St Patty’s Day on Tuesday…that is the unofficial end of winter in this area.
Just loved your walk today. Our snow is mostly all gone in Southeast Ohio. Now we are into flooding. Thanks for your blog.
Nancy
Girls you just got to do it! I just copied some of Susan’s freebies; namely the gift cards and stationary….talk about delightful! What a gift already Susan…love it! Thanks for being so gracious and offering these delights to us.
Makes me happy to make you happy! xoxo
Enjoyed your spring walk especially the beach! What a wonderful book! Can’t wait to get out in the garden. The edge of my front garden is just peeking through the piles of snow melting this week.
Love love love your blog!!!! Makes me smile smile smile. Thank you so much.
Glad to see the winter breaking for you! Here in coastal Carolina we have rounded the bend – starting to plant seeds in the garden!! Stay patient….
Enjoying your posts as always, please include me in the drawing as I do love Tasha! thankyou! sonya [email protected]
Your blog messages are always a breath of fresh SPRING air, regardless of the season. You put so much love into everything you say, paint and share with us. I get inspired to read new books, try new crafts and explore new adventures, just by “walking by your side” throughout your postings. Thank you!! Please add my name to the give-away wish list. Hugs. Pamela
Love Martha’s Vineyard! Your blog brings me back there. Thanks for taking us on your walk. Lucky to find that beautiful dark blue sea glass!
I’m so excited the warmer weather is on its way. I would love to read the book on a sunny day!
Hi Susan, got on my computer tonight and lo and behold there was a blog from you! Always love reading what you and Joe have been up to. It was a lovely day here in my little town in Upstate NY. 50 degrees today! The sun was so warm on my face as I drove around. I live across the street from a corn field. We have coyotes and fox. They love to munch on kitties so our fur babies are strictly indoors. Also saves them from getting diseases and fleas and ticks. I would love to win the cook book! Tasha Tudor is one of my favorite authors besides you! Spring is only 8 days away and today I had a Carolina Wren at my feeders. Am awaiting the arrival of the hummers in a couple of months. Thank you Susan for everything you do to keep us all happy with your drawings and books. Can’t wait for the next one to come out. Enjoy your walks and a big Hug to you and Joe, Jack and Girl Kitty. Bye for now-Kathy.
P.S. Having Downton Abbey withdrawals!
Susan, thank you for the chance to receive this wonderful book. My mother in law cherished this book and I was able to read it once many years ago. I had forgotten about it until I read your blog and would treasure owning it and passing on to my daughter a budding gardener.
Thinking of Spring!
Love Tasha Tudor — love Susan Branch!
Hi Susan! Thanks for sharing snowy views from the island. Those ice squares look like sheets of paper. I have not seen anything like that. Looking forward to your new book.
Loved your winter wonderland post! I felt so invigorating after that walk!! So glad that nobody fell, especially in the water! As you say, spring is justs around the corner !
I took my first walk around the subdivision this afternoon. The breeze was a bit too much for me, but I kept on going. We were suppose to have some rain today, but we were bypassed. My first walk will be the starting of many such walks until it’s too cold next fall.
In a couple weeks we are going to see the daffodills and the tulips. We’ve never been and have heard great things about them. Large field upon field full of flowers to behold.
Speaking of flowers….. would love to get my hands on that Gardening book!! But, whoever wins the book is a very lucky soul.
Since we haven’t gotten much snow anywhere in the state of Washington this winter, I’m going to be planting flowers in pots this year. We are all afraid that they will drastically reduce the amount of water we will be able to have this summer. I think I heard on the news last night that we are only 20% of normal in snow pack. That’s very sad! Here you guys on the east coast have gotten sooo much and here on the west coast at least in Washington, we didn’t. Some years are just like that.
dinner time…
xoxoxo

Happy that you were able to emerge from winter’s grasp! I read parts of your post to my husband and we enjoyed a chuckle together. The gardening book looks like a lovely treasure!!
Love Tasha Tudor — love Susan Branch.
Tasha Tudor is one of my favorites. I would like to win your gardening book. I have 2 prints of Tasha … one called Col. Bunn; which is a brown rabbit lounging. The other I don’t think has a name. It is a still life. A blue and white jar full of rose hips. Thank you for all you do for us. My heart is warmed every time you have a new blog.
Kind regards,
EJC
Looks like a lovely walk! I just love your black and white kitties. We have one named Tucker and then a big orange one Oliver. Love them to bits!
i love nature as you do. I also love Tasha Tudor thanks for the wonderful giveaway.
Love, love, love going on your adventure with you both! I could almost smell the spring air trying to push it’s way through! And to get to always come home to that sweet face who adores you so much is the icing on the cake.
Thank you for always including us, it helps brighten my day!
All my bulbs are coming up to greet Spring! Love Tasha Tudor and a must read every spring is The Secret Garden by Frances Burnett. (And the armadillos are looking for grubs near the bulbs; those animals are not as pretty or nice as kitty cats.)
My husband and I also took a walk in the woods today. The first in a looooong while! We slipped and slid in the slush and then hubby stepped in a snow bank and sunk down into a hidden body of water. Luckily he was wearing water proof boots! And I’m glad he leads the way, just like you and Joe. The highlight of our stroll was seeing mama eagle sitting on her nest and papa watching from a nearby branch. It’s incredible that they live so close to us in suburban NJ!
Yes sometimes I just step into his deep tracks and take all the guess work out of it!
I love spring. Here in the Pacific NW we have had the mildest winter in many, many years so I feel as though we have a head start on spring. When the ground is a bit warmer I can play in my garden. I love gardening books, they are fun to read in the winter.
I always love hearing from you. So glad Spring is on its way. Very warm today in the Saint Louis area. 72 degree. The snowcone truck made his first show and the grandkids came running for the first snow cone of the season. They eat snow ice cream all winter, and flavored snow cones when it warms up. I would love it if you draw my name for the garden book. Such a treasure books are! Let the warm Spring begin! I think we are ALL ready!
Have just recently found you and have been enjoying your post.
Nice to meet you Sue!
What a precious cat you have! Glad you survived the walk!
hi Susan, spring has sprung in Minnesota and our snow is almost all gone! I saw my first Robin on Monday in the little Apple tree outside the kitchen window so for sure spring is on its way.
I love, love the garden book you are so nicely giving to one of us, maybe me!
Your Blog always leaves me with a smile on my face…things are crazy here, hubby has been transferred to Western North Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mountains- really different from South Florida! BUT I am looking forward to having a wonderful garden again! Everything I tried to plant died from the heat in the Florida tropics, so finally- a real garden. My heart is singing! xoxo Jacqui
Love it Jacqui!
I’m SO happy you two didn’t fall!!!!! 🙂 We had a ginormous pile of snow beside the driveway where the snowblower threw it. It finally melted today, and my little snowdrops were there, two already blooming! Some of the little green shoots looked a bit yellowish this morning, but by this afternoon they were perky and pretty and soaking up the sun. Hooray! And, by the way, I’m happy you’re saving your practice papers again and turning them into bookmarks 🙂 Hugs….one for Blogdaddy, too!
Love old books, Tasha Tudor, robins, melting snow, and the promise of spring. Oh, and love your blog, too. 🙂
What a lucky one to find to find the blue beach glass. Thank you for sharing your walk with us!
Loved joining you and Joe for that lovely walk. Loved the sneak peek of the 2016 calendar….so sweet! That book is just so sweet and since my birthday is Monday…..a birthday gift perhaps!!
Well, Happy Birthday no matter what!
Hello Susan,
Glad you are having some glimpses of spring where you are! I would love to win this book to get me thru the next few weeks til time to plant a garden.
The best year of my life – 1971 – the year my son was born! Keeping my fingers crossed to win the gardening book – I’m a librarian and a gardner.
We are experiencing a taste of Spring here in Missouri. Sunshine and 70’s. Windows open, the snow has melted into puddles, enjoying the birds still loving the sunflower seeds.
Your walk is like what we are having here in Michigan except I’m not near the shore. The book would be a real treasure. All my favorites.
Gardens mean spring, yes please! xo
What a wonderful post! Just the thing for that cabin fever! Thanks for opportunity to win the book, what a prize.
What fun walk! I needed it. I have been eating a lot of sweet things to stay warm. You DO know that works, right?
We have peepers today! It is our second day of them at twilight which means, we hope, to be close to real spring! My snowdrops by the back door are poking little brave green sprouts to test the air before the wee flowers slip out to say thank you for the warm sunshine!
And, the robins are flitting hither and yon and our honey bees are sending scouts to check for pollen. Sigh. I love spring… such promise teases…
Happy walking!
lovely gift for a giveaway, I feel in need of the inspiration this year.
Thank you, Susan, for the chance to win this wonderful giveaway! <3
WOW! Loved the snow walk. How far is it to the beach?
What a sea glass find. I don’t usually find great colors like
that. But I do find pottery and china shards from an island
that went under in a hurricane.
LOVE the October page – my month! Thanks
for the peek.
Our walk goes through the woods, then winds around next to a pond, and at the end is the beach. It’s about 3 miles out and back.
Hi Susan
It rained all day yesterday and melted all our snow. A lot of fog this morning, but sunny the rest of the day here in Amelia, OH. So excited for Easter decorations and spring flowers to be here soon. Thanks for sharing your day! Can’t wait to hear more about next book!!
Kathy
Love the kitchen garden book. Love your blog.
Dear Susan,
Just reading your blog today was a “gift” in itself. I love the bird migration and usually look for the robins here in Florida around the first of the year and note their departure. Usually I feed the goldfinches throughout the winter and watch them change into their beautiful yellow and black and fly away north. But this has not been a “usual” winter in that I lost my husband of 42 years in December and the finches did not get fed and the robins didn’t get noticed but maybe I’ll catch sight of the cedar wax-wings as they pass through? Or did I miss them too? Ahh, things will get back to normal in time, I am sure. Meanwhile thank you for sharing.
Oh yes Judy, you will start hearing the birds again soon. I’m so sorry. XOXO
Yak Trax. Put them on your shoes/boots and they act like chains on tires. No falling! I work outdoors and they are the best ever. You must invest for your winter treks!
We never had a winter like this before, so I hadn’t heard of them, but that party is OVER!
Ooh yes please Susan. What a lovely giveaway!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful walk. Very different than the Sacramento Valley in California. It is so refreshing!
Take care…
Please include me…. we are enjoying all of the beauty of spring here in Oregon way before the first day of Spring because we have had the opposite weather of you… and even not near enough rain… officially a drought… Mt. Hood is going to not have a white top if this keeps up.
Just love your posts. Slowly moving towards Spring brings hope. Especially after this winter.
Waiting here for my harbor to thaw, miss the sound of the waves.
Thank you for the lovely spring post. It was a wonderful 70 degrees here in the Missouri Ozarks today and I was digging in the dirt, always plant sugar snap peas on St Patrick’s Day. I know there will still be cold snaps, but I feel the bonds of winter have been broken. Let us get on with the spring cleaning!
Love the calendar page. Jack and Girl are sooooooooooo cute, Kitty love!
Thank you for the snow walk out to the big pond. So glad you finally was able to have an “airing out”!!!
Glad you were careful on your walk!! Bet you’ll remember the cell phone next time. Can hardly wait to hear the new title.
*<]8^)
Tucked it into my jacket when we went the next time . . . not smart to go to the woods without it.
I’ve been reading and enjoying your blog and books for years. You’ve never let me down. Each one is better than the last. Especially the Willards.
I hope spring is just around the corner for you. Here in CA we are missing all that lovely snow 🙁
Thank you for the little touch of Spring. Here, along the Front Range in Colorado, snow is rapidly melting, revealing a lot of tulip, hyacinth, and crocus shoots. No blooms, but assurance of beautiful flowers to come. Hopefully, no frigid weather to burst my bubble. I’m so ready to garden.
Oh, tha book is a treasure! How can you part with it?
I have another one 🙂 or I couldn’t!
Thanks for the pics from your blog ; it really is like a visit and so appreciated; love Tasha Tudors books/illustrations; what a character she was.Livein Florida and am eating out of my garden but my tomatoes all have something dreadful called late blight so i’ve had to pull them all out,but everyone else is happy. Thanks again Susan looking forward to the new calendar.
The great thing about gardening? There’s always next year!
I love Tasha Tudor, and I would be beyond happy to receive this book!
Yes! Spring … Gardens … Tasha; would be so excited to win! Kudos on persevering and getting Part 1 off to the editor.
Sharon in Alabama
When you guys go on walks into dangerous territory like that ….you need a walking stick
Have Joe cut a couple from the woods and trim them up . They can save you from a nasty fall or whack a coyote if need be .
LOL, OK. But there are no coyotes here. I had the camera in one hand, which I put around my neck to be hands-free to catch myself if I fell. I would likely impale myself on a walking stick! (No No, OK, I’ll tell him!)
Hello Susan,
I just want to let you know how much I enjoyed/loved “A Fine Romance”. Please write a sequel next time you go back to England!
I would love to find the Kitchen Garden book! It’s always fun to have a treasure for which to hunt when we go out to play!! Love it!! Happy Springy weather from Paso Robles CA
Can’t wait for the dirt to wake up from this long cold winter. I loved the walk.
I think I replied incorrectly. I assumed Tasha Tutor was still alive but now I think that she may not be. I unfortunately sent it directly to her.
Josepha
Yes, sadly, she passed in 2008. But she left us a beautiful legacy.
Love your pictures. I live in the NW and this year winter skipped us. not one flake of snow. Very little in the mountains. Therefore our spring has come early. Still miss the different seasons, so I lived winter through your pictures. So nice to have a partner to walk with . love all your books and paintings, everything your do.
Great post – I’m also a collector of sea glass, so I loved the piece of blue glass that you found on your walk!
OH! I have wanting this book for the longest time! Love Tasha’s illustrations. I would (after reading it probably at least twice!) lovingly add it to one of my crowded bookshelves among my Gladys Taber collection and my beloved Miss Read books. I am blessed to have a few of Tasha’s books, too. But not this one! By the way – we had 78 degree temps here in SC today! I had on shorts and a short-sleeved tee shirt.
It has warmed up here, too. I feel like I am thawing out. The garden book looks wonderful!
I can not imagine how happy the winner of this gift will be. I think it’s the most magnificent treasure you’ve given away so far. I wish you could come to my house . . . I wish you could see how the joy and beauty you share has shaped me, my life, my home, my world. I have so many treasures from your store, as well as out of print books I’ve found on e-bay. Beatrix Potter-inspired figurines now grace my window ledge and other special little nooks in my kitchen. I have B&M bread in my pantry, a SB pocket planner in my purse, SB sea glass in my bathroom, and Gladys Taber in my playhouse (which I wish you could see!) Not a room doesn’t speak of SB. All around are things that I can thank you for. My 30-year-old daughter is now in love with everything you do too. I don’t usually leave much of a comment, but this time I thought I’d express how much everything you share means and has meant to me. With love from a kindred spirit in Florida, Tamara
Ohhh Tamara, that is so sweet. I love thinking of your Beatrix Potter figurines on your window sill. Not a day goes by when I don’t get pleasure from them. Hello to your daughter from me!
Love, love, love your website! It makes me want to visit Martha’s Vineyard right away! (Well, maybe in a few more weeks ….)
Yes, you sound like a very smart person.
Oh Susan…I love all things Better Homes and Gardens! Love your blog…love your give-aways…love you!
Susan
Shoot – Betty Crocker AND Better Homes & Gardens.
(Sorry)
Susan
Oh, I’ve wanted that book for awhile…I’ve been a Tasha Tudor fan for a long time! I got to meet her twice & have several of my prints signed by her. It would be a JOY to win!
Happy get out of Hibernation Day!! So happy to see a new post from you…..had to step away for a minute to read about the possibility of coyotes on M.V. and found one article where in 2010 scat found on the Island was sent for DNA testing and was found 97% likely to be coyote…… No doubt about them here in California! We see them on the golf course behind our house and have had daylight encounters as close as our front lawn…..don’t like them 🙁 Do you have bobcats and mountain lions on the Island? We have those near as well but for the most part they are more reclusive.
Would love to have the Kitchen Garden book signed by you……your giveaways are always special! P.S. in the coyote article I read that the person being interviewed mentioned that several credible people had thought they sighted evidence of a coyote on the Island…..and he added “Not your average Joes” ……he must have heard about Susan and Joes’ Morning Science sessions! 🙂
I know, we had tons of them around our house in California. Very unnerving, they catch small dogs and cats. Terrible. We have no bobcats, no mountain lions here (our property in CA is on a little creek that comes from a lake just a few miles up, I used to walk there every day, and carry a pen to put out the eye of a mountain lion just in case!). We have nothing that kills cats on the island, as far as I know. Coyotes on Martha’s Vineyard are like the Loch Ness Monster or Big Foot. Sightings, but no real 100% proof.
Oh, Susan!!!
What a delightful post. You made me laugh too! Thank you for that. We’re in a state of chronic mud here in the mid-west. Ack. Every time we walk the pups it’s warm wet towel to wash off the paw, 12 of them and then dry towels for the paws and bellied. Ick. What a mess. I don’t see any drying in site, yet.
Thanks for this most-generous opportunity.
Sending rays of warm spring sunshine and bright yellow daffies to usher the season of renewal into your heart.
XoXoX,
Jeanette
There were two dogs playing on the road while we were on our walk, from a nearby house — they owner was on his porch with a skill saw, and the dogs were going WILD to be outside playing!
Your blog is always inspiring and I enjoy many of your books which I share with others and they make the best gifts,
Thank you for sharing the simple pleasures of life with so many.
Blessings,
Judy
yay Spring! Would love a book and bookmark
Charming book by Campbell/Tudor. Thank you for sharing the treasured old items with us. Also the simple pleasures of life that can get overlooked in the business of the now. Susan, I so love that you take time to share weather, walks, and wonderful happenings with us.
That along with cooking dinner, talking to my dad or my mom on the phone, is what life is all about.
This looks like a lovely book.. thank you for sharing it with a lucky reader!
Ever since my daughter was born I have bought her anything we could find by Tasha Tudor. But, I’ve never seen this book and would love a closer look!
Really do love your work and blogs! Today our first wisteria blooms happened!
I planted them years ago and today was the reward! Thank you for being so wonderful!
Congratulations!
What a great old book. If I am luck enough to win it I will display it next to my little collection of McCoy flower pots. So sweet.
Dear Susan~
I enjoyed your winter walk in the snow in March observations/pictures, as always! I recently took winter garden photos here in NJ before the last few snowstorms. I enjoy each of our 4 seasons. It was actually 62F today! A little spring fever set in as the snow mostly has melted and we can see brown grass once again!
Always love a picture of Jack thrown in the post–such a cutie pie!
Tasha Tudor, for me has always meant Corgis and Christmas…I have some of her books–my favorite being “Take Joy”—I don’t have this book of hers—it’s on my wish list! <3
Thanks for offering this give-away!
xoxo
Thanks for sharing some of the beauty and wonder of the changing seasons with us! Come on springtime!!!
I loved walking with you two today! It is so beautiful there and very calming! Blessed you are!
the snow is still deep here as well but the promise of spring is a twinkle in the eye of the beholder, lol, that would be me! I have had enough winter, done and dusted!
The paintings of your beautiful fur babies are beautiful, the eyes just melt my heart.
I learned a number of things from Tasha Tudor books, we made our wattle fence from the inspiration of her work, I love old books and keep them as friend, close to my heart
I would love to be entered in this give away!,
Love TashaTudor’s Corgi dogs!
I would love to have this! My parents started my love for gardening as I was a child when they owned Binford’s Nursery and Garden Center. And my love for Tasha Tudors art work started with my first child ,Grace. We loved to drink tea and look at her books and illistrations especially her Easter book and poems. Thank you for sharing your world with us! It’s uplifting and just puts me in a good mood. Happy Spring!
Joining your journey on this blog is the perfect way for me to wrap up a long work day! After the lovely end-of-winter walk on Martha’s Vineyard paths and beach with you and Joe, I ran outside to take photos of our own approaching Springtime signs in Northern California – tiny white daisies with tiny pink-edged petals are popping up through the grass, the squirrel family is back rushing from tree to tree, and new bird songs are coming from the tops of those trees. I love experiencing the seasons with you and the Girlfriends, Susan!
Love the pictures of the close-up winter landscape. You make me yearn to be there for the winter. Also, your illustrations of your cats are amazing and capture their personalities so well. Enjoyed so much!
Thank you for taking us on a lovely walk along Martha’s Vineyard-we used to go to the Cape each summer and reading your posts and seeing your pictures always takes me back to those wonderful times-such a beautiful place. Can’t wait to hear about your new book!
Well, in WI right now it feels like Spring … if only for a week. I love daylight savings time, but it always takes me a while to adjust. The sunshine and warmer mornings have helped a lot. I even traded out the winter weight down comforter on our bed for the lighter one. A SB bookmark would make my year!
What an exciting giveaway!
Wonderful have been waiting for your new blog! Thanks you always make me smile.
Always, JoAnn
spring really is just around the corner! Here in Kentucky we’ve just started hearing the tree frogs singing in the evening. It is a most welcome song after the winter we’ve had!
I love that noise!
