HOMEMADE THANKSGIVING MAGIC

We’re talking Homemade Magic today.💖 Do come along, won’t you? MUSICA!

Thought I would talk about the magic of this season . . . We’re all going to be making some this next week (and month)!

We’re cooking up some magic at home and taking it to a friend’s house for Thanksgiving this year! I’m making my heavenly Pumpkin Cheesecake (you can make this gluten free by making one change in the recipe, use gluten-free ginger snaps for the crust, and voila!)I’m also making my Sweet Potato Casserole ⬆️ a wonderful recipe which I sometimes serve in mini pumpkins . . .

But this time I’m just baking it in a casserole dish so it’s easier for travel. (Like my apron? Quite the garment! No mistaking the holiday!)🎃

I’m also providing the cranberry sauce which I almost force them to let me do because I love this simple recipe so much, to me it sparkles ~ plus I’ll make extra for my must-have-for-the-holidays, Christmas Jam. Both recipes are below:I get to jump over it this year, because they are making the turkey!
And we’ll taste someone else’s “idea” of stuffing 😱 but we’ll be brave, it’s good for us, makes us better people. But Joe has gathered the ingredients to add some extra gravy to the general good.

I’m not making Rainbow Jell-O this year because we’ll be all adults (and one new baby!) but if you’re having kids at your table, this is a wonderful recipe for them to put in their forever memory banks. It’s kid food, and they know it and I believe, feel grateful for it. But trust me, big kids like it too!

This was our dinner last year, the leftovers looked almost as good as when we put the dinner on the table! We tried to make enough for every one to have leftovers to-go!

I thought you might like a few photos of Holidays-passed, of some of my decorated table ideas . . .

This was a casual dinner we had at the kitchen table using my old mix-and-match pottery collection, and the antique black-iron candlesticks I found somewhere along the way. (No marks on the bottom of these, I’m sorry to say, would love to tell you where they come from!)

Candlelight makes everything look better! More romantic, prettier colors, softer light, the food even tastes better in candlelight! And a little poem or a prayer written on a menu stand helps to set the tone. Because Thanksgiving is so wonderfully about gratitude and memory.

Cookbooks, wooden spoons, and recipe boxes (with mom and grandma’s handwriting on recipe cards) make evocative Thanksgiving table decorations. I love using stuff I have around the house. A table with lots of little framed photos works too. Makes for lots of happy conversation. Also, you can make placemats out of old photos (enlarge on copier), that’s fun too ~ you can even use them as place cards, “find your photo and that’s where you sit”. (I’ve forgotten to take pictures of my table settings in the past, I try not to let that happen anymore!)

Pile together a few of your favorite things, collections, or family memories, interesting things to look at that relate to you and yours . . . the little shoes, remember from my book? I wrote how I found them in the attic at Holly Oak, left behind by Agnes, my secret guardian angel. Now there she is, on our Thanksgiving table.

More found objects . . . Leaves and pinecones make perfect place cards!

Small low vases of flowers are good too, you can see over them! See the candlestick with the star bobeche? I found those bobeche years ago and LOVE them, I bring them out any time I need a starry night!🕯

I always use them for the holidays, but in the summer too, under the stars . . .

I looked for them for years to put in our web store, but never found them. Off and on, I’ve managed to get people to make them for us, but they’ve been very hard to get. See how you set the bobeche on top of the candle stick?⬆️

And then the candle slips through the hole and into the stick ~ 🕯

Voila! Anyway, I finally found a new manufacturer! And this time I had them made from lightweight acrylic, just like the ones I found so many years ago. In case you need some starry light on your holiday tables!🕯

Bobeche! Here’s how they look without the candles. And, something special, to celebrate this wonderful season . . .For YOU! YES, leave a comment at the end of this post, and we’ll have a drawing, and see who is going to be the winner of this pair of starry bobeche!

I love it when they play Little Women on TV on Thanksgiving. It’s such perfect background “music.” Reminds me of simpler days and the things that really matter. The smell of dinner cooking is enough to set the entire mood of the day. And isn’t it wonderful, it’s not about gifts?! Only the little ones that really count. Like home. And P.S. Something special for PLU (people like us) . . . LOOK what’s coming this Christmas

Because magic can come in very small packages. It doesn’t have to be fancy. All this decorating is nice, if you have the time, and are in the mood, but there are no rules. Just one little pumpkin on a porch or a kitchen table is lovely and festive and says it all. That, a roasted chicken, a baked apple, a little candle, and a prayer is all we need. And the day after Thanksgiving, while filled to overflowing with gratitude and contentment and pumpkin pie, and blessed by everything we have, feed your soul in nature on Green Friday. I fear we are teaching our children greed by celebrating consumerism the day after Thanksgiving. Instead, teach magic, take your spirit and your kids to the sky . . .

Because God made the dirt roads, the woods, and the critters and gave them to us has His gift. And it’s our job to take care of them for Him. Honor them for Him.

Quiet places with wind and bird sounds fill your heart with thanks and wash the stress away. (Would you like to read my Love Letter to Martha’s Vineyard? In your spare time!)

A wonderful gift from the sea, free! And we didn’t have to stand in line under klieg lights to get it!

The pause that refreshes. The sound of snowfall is good for you!The gift that keeps on giving. Other things to do besides hugging trees that cause magic: have a turkey-sandwich, pumpkin-pie picnic outside, or surprise the lady down the street and have your whole family go to her house and plant bulbs. (I’ll give you my address!) Bring someone who’s stuck inside OUT, and take them to nature. Adopt a new petty pet! 💖 Or,

Cuddle in front of a fire . . .

Dreaming of a better tomorrow? Let it show in everything you do.💞 We are so lucky!

Here’s a Thanksgiving Prayer bookmark, for you to print out, just click there. I’ve memorialized the childhood prayer Joe “sang” to me when we first met. (Suzy, Nosey, Inky, and so on, were his family’s pets!❤️)

And don’t forget to leave a comment for the starry bobeches. Blessings on you and yours darling friends! Have the MOST wonderful Thanksgiving.🎃

Thank you Susan, for another delightful and thought provoking post!

  2. Mer says:

Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving to you! I made your star croutons several years ago when my kids were little. They were easy and delicious and now I’ll make them again to share with my 2 year old granddaughter who loves croutons. I am happy to adopt Green Friday. I’ve never been interested in the other one. I don’t have to work that Friday this year so I’m really looking forward to using it as a lovely way to have a pause – remembering the time spent with family the day before (while still enjoying delicious leftovers 😉), and looking forward to the Christmas season and the joys that come with it. I’ve got to make that cranberry sauce too, and the jam! Cranberry and orange are the best combination! So glad you found a company to make the bobeche, they’re hard to find these days and they look so pretty, a little touch of elegance and sparkle. Looking forward to Little Women movie this Christmas! I will be thinking of you all on Green Friday! 🌳 🌊

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Sounds delicious. In sunny South Carolina we will be celebrating (for the first time) a “untraditional” Thanksgiving. We will be serving Beaufort Stew (shrimp, sausage, potatoes, and corn on the cob cooked in Bay Seasoning) in my brother’s shop (think garage without grease stains). Traditional desserts will still be served with hot coffee!

  15. Janet Conn says:

Thank you so much for a wonderful post reminding us all what these next few weeks are all about, God, Family, Happiness, Kindness and Hope. Enough kindness to spread around the whole world. I truly believe kindness and hope will always win out. I wish you and Joe a blessed Thanksgiving.

Black Friday, even the name makes me shudder. What a travesty to have it after the very day we pause to count our numberless blessings. Although now everyone is trying to make it earlier and earlier, pretty soon it will be Black Month. Thank you for helping us to keep our sights on the things that really matter and are priceless!

  21. Melody Mahala says:

I had no idea a new Little Women was coming out! I watched the preview and it looks perfect for my 10 year old daughter! I think I’ll take her and a bunch of her “girlfriends” and have a grand ole time! We’re also going to participate in our first Green Friday! We’re headed for a hike lead by a ranger that day! So excited!

    • sbranch says:

Perfect! Love to be a fly on the wall and hear the girls talk about the movie after they’ve seen it. Fun to see what stands out to them! Have a wonderful time Melody!

  22. Annie Patterson says:

My first time to comment, I have enjoyed you from afar for many years, and have many of your older books. Please do have a very Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours. And I wanted to include I do a grinch Christmas tree, because Christmas doesn’t come from a store and only hand made items go under this tree even for the little ones (we get creative). Loved the star bobeches. Looking forward to your next post.

  23. Nancy snyder says:

    Love all the thanksgiving posts

  24. Mindy Hutchinson says:

Lovely reminder of what the holidays are about. Thank you!

  25. Patricia Alvino says:

  29. Jodie says:

Love when you post on your blog! Makes my day! We always went to my dad’s sister’s house. Big Italian family on my dad’s side. It’s funny, I don’t remember the food or the decorations, but I do remember all of us in my aunt’s kitchen which had a big round oak table and a huge fireplace, singing “Bless this house”. My Uncle Lou had a big, loud, in tune, beautiful Italian singing voice. I can still hear him…
Thank you for helping bring to the surface such wonderful Thanksgiving memories! Happy Thanksgiving!

  30. charlotte m. says:

That little poem about You one it, I two it made me smile. My brother used to torture me with that when we were kids. He always got to jump over “it” so I ate it and it was always something gross. lol. Have a lovely Thanksgiving Susan and Joe and Jack. Thanks for another lovely post. Make me feel like home and hearth at this time of year to hear from you.

  31. Bernadette says:

Susan, always a pleasure reading your posts and I save them to the morning while drinking my tea. I have a practice that I start my mornings in quiet solace, sipping tea and appreciating nature. Unsettling news reports and world crises will have to wait to later. They’re not welcome here.

This year the house which is in a woody area, is wrapped in golden loveliness apparent from every window and porch so it’s hard not to feel enveloped and blessed by all of God’s goodness. Your words and illustrations accompany them well!

Love the bobèches. I have my crystal angels, snowflakes and mistletoe out as well. I love watching the prism of light seep through. Certainly magically pretty to watch the colors and they feel like little rays of blessings coming down from Heaven above. So neat!

    Happy Thanksgiving.

  32. Vicki says:

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! Best time of year…blessed with family and friends what greater blessing can there be? 😘

    Best,
    Jonna

  34. Shanna says:

Aw, thanks. Always so good to hear from you, Susan 💕.

  35. Ellen Botts says:

What a wonderful blog full of memories for me. My mother had bobeches (circa 1945) and we used them every holiday. I don’t know what happen to them but I wish I had them. Thanksgiving is a good time for remembering. Happy Thanksgiving! Ellen

  36. Jennifer J Lauri says:

We are wishing you and Joe a wonderful Thanksgiving. The photos of fall decorations make me want to look at my possessions with a new perspective. I have already made fabric garland for my kitchen window!

  37. Nancy in Carnation says:

I have always believed that a thoughtfully set table says ‘I love you’ to guests from me…or at least I hope that is what they think. 🙂 Thank you, Susan, for your inspiration over the years. Thanksgiving Blessings to All!

  38. Merci Schon says:

    Susan,

Well that was nice. Yes its a busy time of year but a Happy one. “slow down you move to fast gotta make the morning last”. Always good to sing that once in a while.

Love your Nature comments! Since moving from CA to N C, I started a hiking group here. Realizing some of my friends have not been “outside” We enjoy each other’s company, conversations and find happiness in just walking!
    Happy Thanksgiving.

  45. Della Bone says:

Enjoyed your warm & cozy Thanksgiving post. Such a welcome to read something so delightful and humble. Thank you! Happy Thanksgiving! 😽🥰🌟🌟🌟
PS-Have admired those enchanting stars dangling from the lovely bobeches for years!😍🤩🤩

  46. Sydney says:

Thank you for the wonderful post. It started my morning off with a smile.
Each time I see a post for you, it truly is like seeing a letter from an old friend. You have a gift for that in your writing. And I wanted to tell you that reading your posts is another “antidote for disheartening news reports”. Thank you for that too.

  47. Linda Badurek says:

I’ve loved using bobeches for years. The first ones I received as a wedding gift! I’ve made them before for Thanksgiving using the tiny cones found under some trees. They might be spruce cones, I’m not sure what they were but I made the bases from cereal box card stock and hot-glued the teensy tiny cones one it. They were perfect for Thanksgiving and I used them for several years!

    • sbranch says:

Of course! How smart! They would be easy to make! With a hole punch and some paint, and other things, you could be as fancy or as woodland-like as you wanted!

  48. Barbara Faylor says:

I love coming to your blog. It’s always delightful and I enjoy being reminded of the simple pleasures that we all have in our lives. So grateful for mine. ❤️

  49. I just finished reading The Fairy Tale Girl and am in the beginning pages of Martha’s Vineyard Isle of Dreams and am so enjoying learning more about your life. One thing that struck me in The FTG was how as you were growing up and during your young married years everyone did and made things rather than watched things (if that makes sense). I don’t know how to do half the things you grew up doing! Food for thought…

    • sbranch says:

There wasn’t much money running around, if we wanted something, we pretty much had to make it! You could get fabric for 25 cents a yard, you could make a skirt for less than a dollar!

  50. Mimi says:

Reading your blog leaves me feeling wrapped in cozy comfort. Happy Thanksgiving to you!

  51. Nonni says:

Thanks for a great year of posts! Had this idea the other day thinking about your new book coming out…a great stocking stuffer. Create a “Holiday” preorder Gift Certificate that folks could put in an envelope or stocking good for reedeming at your web store for the new book just like you do other Gift Certificates. Folks are more likely to splurge during the Holidays for someone special. Your book would be great for this preorder idea this time of year. Also, maybe these books could be even more special by having the ones bought for Christmas, signed. …just a thought for ya 🙂

    • sbranch says:

It’s a delightful thought . . . I feel like I should be further along before I do that, just for the realism of the thing! xoxo

  52. Nancy Pillar says:

    Always rushto read your blog

  53. Nancy Pillar says:

Always rush to read your uplifting blog! just love it!

  54. Eleanor R Carruth says:

Absolutely wonderful of you to share with us!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!❤

  55. Debra Maniar says:

Your blogs are the best way to start my day – with a cup of coffee. Thanks for making me smile!

  56. Mother Pela says:

What a heartwarming post, as usual! Brought tears to our eyes – thank you!! With love from all your sisters in Brookline – and wishing you and yours near and dear a very happy Thanksgiving!

    • sbranch says:

Oh Hell-o Mother Pela! How I love hearing from you. I think of you girls all the time! Please give my love to one and all, and have a happy Thanksgiving. xoxo

    XO Melissa

  58. Donna Crouch says:

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone….my very favorite.

  59. Barb Walsh says:

Your blogs always inspire me to be a better person and makes me get out my beautiful collections and decorate. I love your recipes but I usually just stick with our family tried and true no disappointed people that way. And thank you for reminding me of Jello. One of my grandson’s favorite things. I think I’ll make him a bowl.

  60. Deborah Robinson says:

Thank you for Green Friday~brilliant idea!
Thank you for your diligence in finding and procuring those little things that add “sparkle” to our lives.
Thank you for reminding us that simple gestures & actions bring the greatest rewards.
Thank you for sharing your delicious recipes to fill our homes and bodies with love.
Thank you for providing words of encouragement.
    Thank you,
    Deb

  61. Amy from Salem says:

This year I am finding it difficult to get myself started into a holiday mood. The sentiments of your lovely post and those of all the girlfriends are certainly helping. I will stop and take a friend to see Little Women, a story I have always loved. Thank you for brightening my world.

  62. Susan Mcenerney-Brasier says:

Lovely sentiments, memories, photos. As my yoga teacher said the other day, we can choose not to get caught up in it all if we don’t want to. The simple things, the thankfulness for what we have, the gratitude for what we have. I too have never understood black friday. What hole are we trying to fill with all the buying? I am having Thanksgiving with my friends, as I have the past 2 years. Come, be yourself, relax, we are happy that you are here, we love you. Now that is something to be thankful for, and I am. I wish you a happy Thanksgiving.

  63. Vicki B. says:

Happy Thanksgiving, Susan, to you, your family, and friends! This year is the first I will not be putting a Thanksgiving feast on my table, and I am so excited!! Due to work schedules I won’t be with family, but a dear friend and her husband are including me in their feast. I only have to bring the pie!! 🦃

  64. Bonnie says:

Living in the suburbs with no way to go walk in the woods. There is a place down the street I might be able to navigate my walker. Daughter will think I’m nuts but she didn’t grow up with woods like I did.

Love the picture of the bench on tree stubs. Wonder who thought to do that. Have a great Thanksgiving but I know you will.

  65. Nancy Halsema says:

I can’t wait to make the jello for my grandsons. I had forgotten how pretty and delicious good old jello is. Thanks for the reminder.

  66. Christine Vosk says:

Happy Thanksgiving!! A always, a beautiful post to put things into perspective.

  67. Leslie Gammelgaard says:

Happy Thanksgiving! Wishing you continued magic as you bless us with with your thoughts, thoughtfulness and beautiful illustrations. You are a gift. 😘💕

  68. Michelle McDermott says:

    Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  69. Kathy says:

Those Starr bobeche are amazing. I have never seen anything like them. ❤️❤️❤️❤️🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊

  70. Mary Kremer says:

I keep a copy of the saying There is Always Something to be Thankful For in plain sight every day.Not just at Thanksgiving time but every day because it is SO true. I count your blog posts as one of those”somethings”.
The photos are such eye candy, your words inspirational and a joy to read.
Thank You Susan for inviting us into your world with your blog.
The last three months of the year have long been my favorite months,Fall Halloween,Thanksgiving and Christmas. All full of wonderful memories of family gatherings and special events. The holidays are different now,but I still cherish the memories and continue to make new ones.
I never really considered the star bobeche before because I mostly use jar candles but the thought of the effect they give would make for some serious magic.
I have made your cranberry sauce AND the jam too. It was De-lish!!
When I clicked on the link and it brought up the trailer for the new Little Women movie…Susan, I was so excited I about burst into tears-of joy.
It was one of my mom’s favorite movies, the Katherine Hepburn version was one of the first movies she ever saw in a theater. We watched that version and the one with Margaret O’Brien(one of my most favorite actresses) on TV many times. And we saw the Winona Ryder version in the theater together, it was the last movie we saw together before she passed away.
This one looks to be pretty faithful to the story, and Meryl Streep and Laura Dern are great for their roles.
Can’t wait till all of us who visit your blog set a chance to see it and are able to comment about it here the way we have over Downton.
Happy Thanksgiving Susan and Joe and Jack too!!

  71. Cathy Shepherd says:

With gratitude from me. Thank you for your blogs!

  72. Julia F Waterbury says:

Thank you! Have a blessed THANKSGIVING with your friends. We are driving to California to visit family…grand boys and grand girls! We are all getting excited!!!

  73. Joanne says:

Wishing you and Joe a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving!

  74. Paula Clark says:

Hi Susan, love your posts always a welcome happy surprise. I want to wish you and Joe and Jack a very blessed Thanksgiving. Try not to miss your Grandma’s stuffing too much. I know how that is too, I love the comfort and remembrance of past Thanksgivings that come from a passed down recipe. I love my Uncle P.K.’s Mom’s recipe that my Aunt Polly always made. But I am going to my son’s and daughter-in-laws and she makes her own family recipe. In my head I keep thinking, just make some of mine for here at home and maybe they will send me home with a bit of turkey! Do I need it? No! But will be with people we love and that is the special part. I have always loved your star bobeche, ever since the first time I saw you show them in a blog or Willard years ago. Would love to be in the drawing. Thank you.

    • sbranch says:

Perfect word to describe my grandma’s stuffing: comfort! To me, it smells a bit like she did, sage and butter!

  75. Margaret Harwood says:

I have enjoyed your posts since Country Living magazine days, now I get to enjoy them through emails, what modern days we live in. After reading them I have the desire to decorate even more. Thank you for your inspiration. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours🦃🥧🍁🍂🌾🍽🙏

  76. Mia Davis says:

    Susan!
I always love your newsletters. Especially the wonderful music that plays while I read them! Thank you for joe’s bookmark. I have been trying to find the month that you did the english “God Save The Queen” bookmark with the Corgi? Would really like to print some of those and now I cant find it!

And I do love your special Bobeche!

  77. Karen McBride says:

What a blessing to read this today — just home from hospital from an antibiotic reaction, feeling flattened, trying not to think about getting on an airplane on Monday. Interesting … I was looking for bobeches a year or two ago after a candle wax disaster, but I couldn’t find any “in person” to see how they looked and then forgot. Thanks for helping me re-focus!

  78. Joan Heenahan says:

Love reading EVERY post and beautiful picture. Someday am going to get out there and see Martha’s Vineyard. Apparently I have many ancestors buried in Edgartown. Happy Thanksgiving!

  79. Joyce Schattauer says:

Happy Thanksgiving! Once again, Susan, you have reminded us of how special it is to enjoy all the small details that make home and hearth and holidays so wonderful. Today the low winter sun is streaming in the windows, and I am getting out platters and pickle dishes, making things shine, and picking the best place to put the punch bowl so it can sparkle in the afternoon light. My idea of FUN!

  80. Lillian Hetherington says:

I look forward to your posts, usually saving them to read when
I have finished morning chores I do for the wildlife and my own
aging cat. We are aging together and I think he keeps me going.
I no longer cook Thanksgiving dinner and I feel that what I now
eat in other places doesn’t replace the Oyster Dressing the baked
dried corn, Pennsylvania Dutch treats from my childhood. Here in
California we are now going to have rain at last, after those horrific
wildfires. So that is really something to be thankful for.

  81. Dear Susan, sister & friend,
You are such an inspiration to my creative senses. One of my traditions that I started when I first ‘met’ you, is that every month, I go back & read your blogposts for the month, starting with 2010, & read every post in that month. I have traveled to many places of the heart, senses, & just plain places! via your blog. I am a follower of Jesus, & I know He has brought you into my life, because your writing & artwork have brought so much blessing & joy! You have such God-given gifts that you are so willing to share. We are kindred spirits , as Anne Shirley says, ( now, I don’t agree with everything you say, but what sisters or friends agree with everything?) & I love your youthful heart . I have one too! (Maybe we could play together someday! ) Today is my birthday, but I was actually born on Thanksgiving, so I just want to say, how thankful I am for you & your blog ( & books, etc.) I’m going to have a fun birthday with my kids & sweetheart husband today, but one of the first blessings of the day, was when I looked to see if you had posted anything new. You had! Happy Birthday to me!

Your posts are so fun and festive. Thank you for brightening the day!

A question, though, on the cranberry recipe you have pictured. Is that a page out of one of your books or a past calendar?

Happy Thanksgiving, Susan, to you and your family and staff!

  83. Vicki says:

LOVE the sparkle you spread! I’m making your recipe for Pumpkin Cheesecake for Thanksgiving dessert, everyone’s excited to try it! Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Lovely post and images, Susan. I realize that as we age, holidays are often different. This year, I will not be doing the dinner at our home in Paradise as we did for over 30 years. I see recipes and ideas pop up in my daily email feed, and I am actually looking forward to being a guest in our daughter’s new home. I will be the cook’s assistant, a Grandmother Souz Chef if need be. Life has changed drastically for us in the past year. I look forward to establishing some new traditions and getting on with our new life. Thankful for life and family❤️

  93. Judy L Covell says:

Happy Thanksgiving! Those bobeche are just fine. I like bling anyway. I think Santa has had packages sent to our home. Maybe the many hints helped him to decide what Susan Branch things I had to have. We will see.

I am reading Isle of Dreams for the third time. I am just back from Gabriola Island last night where I’ve just taken a tiny cottage there for a few months to have respite and to see if I want to live there permanently. I was not deliberately following your recipe for healing, but it has turned out that way. I also have lost thirty pounds since your personal advice and wonderful post about diet. My life and health are completely different now!! In a really good way.
Thank you for all you do for your girlfriends. You are such a treasure.
I am moving up to the island next weekend. I will be taking your books with me and would love to win a set of bobeche to have there. Gabriola loses power quite often in the winter. Can you imagine how pretty they would be as the only light source!?

    • sbranch says:

I can definitely imagine Erin! You sound wonderful! Taking charge! Congratulations . . . it’s a one day at a time thing, but it makes me so happy to hear all this lovely positivity from you. You said you are moving up to the island next weekend . . . did you decide yes on permanently?

  95. Paulette Feld says:

We’re a small family group this year, so we decided to go out for Thanksgiving dinner. Yesterday, I walked into a William’s Sonoma store, the smell of what they were making smelled like Thanksgiving. I got sad that we wouldn’t have that experience. I almost said “nevermind, I’m making dinner”, but knew I had other obligations in the way. So, I’m going to make something out of pumpkins and maybe the cranberry jam, and finish the sweater I’m knitting to wear on Thanksgiving. Taking a walk on Green Friday sounds wonderful too.

Thanksgiving is what we make of it!
