BLIZZARD WATCH

Hi Girls!  It’s 24°, sun’s just up, blue sky, no wind, but we are on a Blizzard Watch!  They are talking 1-2 feet of snow for Martha’s Vineyard, probable power outages!  “Crippling Blizzard!”  Yikes! But we have MUSICA

I just love this photograph.  I took it at the Emma Bridgewater factory, in a very old building in Stoke-on-Trent in England.   The factory was so organized (everyone knows where they keep the rubber bands) and no matter where you looked, tea was at hand.  It’s an interesting juxtaposition between the hearts and the walls, a little romance can brighten up the darkest spot!

My theme today is Romance.  Has to be, because yesterday Joe and I celebrated our twenty-sixth anniversary!  This is one of the wonderful postcards in his collection.

Last year at this time we celebrated our 25th by having an anniversary breakfast and inviting all of our friends.

I used champagne corks for place cards, old books, birds and flowers for the table, my Johnson Brothers Rose Chintz dishes, and a little bowl of chocolate kisses, because who doesn’t love a little kiss at breakfast time.  ♥ ♥ ♥

We cooked up a storm for this party and had a wonderful time doing it.

♥   ♥   ♥

Cooking is my idea of deep, dark, delicious romance.  Romance is all about the five senses and cooking appeals to them all, smells good, tastes good, looks, feels, sounds so good, and cooking includes the 6th sense, the sense of imagination and creativity.  These books are my idea of romance novels.  I love to read them and be inspired; sometimes Joe and I read recipes out loud to each other, like storybooks.  He will say something like, “Listen to this, they’re putting cinnamon in a taco!”

But you can see why — if this isn’t pure romance, I don’t know what it is.  And luckily, Joe thinks so too.  He is my victim, and I am his.

Making banana fritters is almost as romantic as eating them, especially when playing a little old-fashioned music.

Mmm, saw this picture of cheesecake as I was scrolling by, just had to put it in. Looks very romantic to me!

And then there’s tea . . . and all the romance around this sweet tradition.  I designed this tea strainer and Lenox made it …. of course they’re long gone but I still have mine, so I thought I’d show you how cute it was.

Maybe you need some chocolate-chip and orange heart-shaped tea biscuits to go with your tea?  So quick and easy, and such a nice way to say I love you. ♥  (I think we still have heart-shaped iron pans in our web store in case you need one.)

More romance, this lovely little embroidered beaded heart, was sent to me by my English Girlfriend Siobhan.  It hangs in the kitchen.  Love!

Someone wrote the other day, wanting to show my favorite piece of transferware.  That’s a difficult choice, but I think this bowl is it!  Not very big, but what a cutie.  “WOOD” is deeply stamped on the bottom; a very fancy pair of numbers are painted next to the stamp, “24.”  That’s all I know about this little pink bowl.  I always wish these things had tiny little chip video cameras on them so we could pop it into our computers and see everywhere they’ve been during their lives.  I’d love to see the women who bought these bowls, the very first tables they sat on, the cupboards they were kept in, who washed them, and what was in them.  Look how lucky the people of the future will be, we have videos of EVERYTHING.  But then again, maybe what makes it all so romantic is that it’s gone forever, and we just have to imagine.

So, yes, soon, it’s going to look like this around here! Even more — the weather man just said our storm will be HISTORIC!  How exciting!

How romantic!

‘Specially when I look out my studio window and see my guy taking care of things.

Our anniversary was very low key this year, no parties, just us, the kitties, the fire.  We’re planning to celebrate everything after the book is turned in and we return to our regularly scheduled life.  It won’t be long now!

I ‘m painting like crazy (I keep bits of scrap paper next to the page I’m working on, where I test the paint on my brush, or do quick squiggles — that’s what this is — don’t worry, it’s not going into the book!).  Joe is scanning the finished pages and sending them in as they are finished.  So yesterday, our anniversary was just a regular day, no special plans, we wished each other happy anniversary and that was about it, a special day, like any other.  Then he went to the supermarket for groceries and came home with roses.  He surprised me with them, I didn’t expect it, so I was very touched.  He is such a doll.  It was kind of like that heart cup in the picture at Emma Bridgewater’s — just the littlest bit of romance brightens everything.  He also hid a coconut cake in the back freezer.  So after dinner, which was ribs and sweet potatoes, he pulled out his surprise cake.

He is taking good care of me as I finish writing our book, and paint titles for the front cover.  It was the perfect Anniversary.  I could not have asked for any more.  ♥   ♥   ♥   So back to work I go.  I wrote a new WILLARD yesterday!  It’s being prepared now so it can be emailed to everyone.  I love writing Willards . . .  it’s hard to believe this is my first one for 2013!  The Valentine Willard will start going out February 12.  You should know, it has little surprises in it just for you. Because Valentine’s Day was invented for women! We need those little surprises!  Like roses.♥

I laid out the back cover of the book … then I took it to Joe to ask him what he thinks.  We feel so lucky because last year we had a celebration to last a lifetime and since then, we’ve been reliving it almost every day!

Twenty-six years together . . .

Isn’t it romantic?

  2. Sharon says:

Susan, you and Joe make such a handsome couple.Congratulations on having such a long and happy marriage. Wishing you many more happy years together!

  3. Vicki in Cincy says:

Hi Susan! Happy Belated Anniversary to you both! You are so blessed, a lot of marriages don’t make it 26 years and that makes it EXTRA special!
Wow, I heard about the storm coming your way. I hope it is not as bad as they are predicting, though I know you are snuggly and warm and well prepared for this kind of thing. But please take care of yourselves!! I do love Valentine’s Day for many reasons, but especially the candy part lol. We’re on our 3rd bag of the pink, red and white Valentine M&Ms. It’s important to take part in ALL of the Valentine festivities LOL 🙂 xoxo

    • sbranch says:

LOL. Joe’s going to get some popcorn, I think a bag of M&M’s should be on the shopping list!

      • Shelia says:

Just found you about 2 months ago. I love love love all the pictures of your paradise especially the SNOW! Dont get as much as we used to here so I live vicaroiusly through yours. Happy Anniversay. Loved the pictures from last and this year. You are blessed!

  4. Sara D NW Georgia says:

Your excitement in the blizzard is wonderful! I hate watching the news with all the doom and gloom!
I love all the romance in your post! And I have to admit, I am glad everything is not microchipped (although the idea of seeing where it has all been is very tempting). I enjoy the mystery of it.

Stay safe 🙂 and Happy Anniversary to you and Joe!

  5. Sherry Winchester says:

Such a sweet little blog entry….Happy Belated Anniversary..Hubby and I will make it 38 this year in September….We, too, are getting a snowstorm here along the Lake Michigan coastline today/tomorrow, but yours sounds bigger! Hunker in, cuddle w/hubby & kitties….Stay safe and warm!…Looking forward to Willard, BTW!

  6. Heidi says:

Happy day after your anniversary and a belated happy anniversary too. Thanks for the recipe – will try to make the biscuits for my mom. My parents anniversary is Valentine’s Day and since she is a widow – try to do something special for her. Be safe and warm in the storm, hugs to Girl and Jack.

  7. Kerry S. from San Pedro, CA says:

Happy, happy anniversary week!! I agree with you about the M&M’s – with freshly popped corn = double yum!
I’m going to a fasting blood test this morning then to Le Pain Quotidien to break the fast! During the 40 minute drive to the lab I’ll be thinking about the wonderful feast from last year’s celebration that you showed us this morning!! 😉
Snuggle down in your house with your two-legged and four-legged loves! I’m sure that you’ll all weather the predicted storm in great shape!

BTW – have been watching people with the human figure snow sculpture at Old Faithful! Guys posing with their arms around it – people taking photos! Wonderful reactions! Here is the live cam link info nps.gov/features/yell/live/live4.htm
    😉

  8. Lori says:

Happy Anniversary to Joe and you. <3 Stay warm and cozy!

  9. Jodyg says:

Happy anniversary. Everyday I excitedly check for a new story and end up reading past stories and looking at pictures. LOVE it. Stay warm with this storm heading your way….I’m in Illinois and we have rain/sleet all day…no snow..so sad as we have not had a decent snowstorm yet this winter. Thanks Susan, for all you do. Just LOVE it……

  10. Jeanette says:

Happy, Happy 26th Anniversary to you both!
May every blessing of happiness overflowing, joy in the simple things, the sweet glance that says a thousand words and Love, LOVE, LoVe be yours each and every day!!!!!
I know you’ll be well-prepared for the blizzard, stocked up and ready. If times allows, please take some photos for us. It’s dreary and rainy here in Central IL and I’m longing for a bonafide blizzard, even a few inches of snow would help at this point.
Stay safe and snuggled in and painting away with bliss in your heart.
Hugs and love and Anniversary delights!!!
    XooX,
    Jeanette

  11. Nellie says:

What a forecast! I’m sure you have taken all sorts of necessary preparations in case you lose electricity. That is my greatest worry should we have such stormy weather.

You and Joe are certainly looking good at 26 years! I send along wishes for many more happy years together!

We have clouds here today, with rain in our forecast. We have already had seven inches above our usual average rainfall for this time in the year! It was the wettest January for over 130 years!

It is good to hear of good progress on the book. I’m ready to purchase one.:-)

Love the scenes from the Emma Bridgewater factory!

    Have a good Thursday!

    xo Nellie

    • sbranch says:

That was an old photo Nellie, that is not what we look like now!:-)

      • Pat Mofjeld from St. Paul, Minnesota says:

I recognized that that was an old photo but, girlfriends, after meeting them at a booksigning, I can tell you they STILL look good and make a handsome couple! 🙂 Enjoy the storm. We have one headed our way Sat. night into Sun. but not as big a storm as yours. It seems like all of our predicted snowstorms have sort of fizzled out this year. I’m kind of envious of you. Sandy told me they are getting the storm, too, in Boston. Weird weather! We have popcorn, apple cider, and a movie set aside for Saturday night. And if the power goes, which I’m sure it won’t with our storm this time, there are always oil lamps and games… 🙂

      • Deborah Norling says:

Susan….Love the younger pic of you and Joe..so in love and faces glowing ! You still look the same..you still have your lovely high cheek bones and young figure…alas,..all my “high”….has gone…”low”….!

  12. Peggy Cooper says:

Happy Anniversary you two!!! I heard about the storm on the news this morning and thought of you. They make it sounds so scary, but I know you will be snug as a bug in your wonderful house with the fireplace and candles and the kitties. One thing I love about your cooking posts is that your cookware is not all shiny and pristine like it is on some other blogs and on the cooking shows. Always reminds me of Erma Bombeck saying “never trust a woman with shiny cookie sheets”. I can tell yours are filled with lots of memories and lots of love.

    • sbranch says:

I was just thinking about my pans. They are the very first ones I ever bought … back when I was in my 20s and falling in love with cooking via Julia Child, I splurged for a whole set of Cuisinart pans and I have never changed them. Joe brought his black frying pans from the restaurant!

      • Janet [in Rochester] says:

Talk about a “blended” family – your pans and his! That is SO cute… :>)

        • sbranch says:

          Knives too!

          • Janet [in Rochester] says:

My dad always said “buy the very best quality you can – only the wealthy can afford to buy junk because they can replace it every year…” He also believed good knives were the best tool a smart cook could have, so each of us got a “starter” set of Wusthof knives in a wood block, the kind that fits in a kitchen drawer. I treasure mine. It’s been 30 years and they’re like sterling silver – they get more beautiful with age and use. I think of my dad every time I get one out [sniff]. :>)

          • sbranch says:

I so agree with your dad. It’s such a waste to keep buying the same thing over and over again! What good advice!

  13. Happy Anniversary Susan and Joe…wishing you many, many more!!!
    Stay warm!
    Linda from Dallas
PS–I am so loving my little bird teacup! So glad you got more in!

  14. Kathy - Shelburne Falls says:

Happy Anniversary, Susan and Joe!!! Sounds like the perfect way to celebrate the day with your kitties, good food and a crackling fire in the fireplace!!! Now onto the historic snowstorm – M&M’s definitely need to be on Joe’s list!

  15. Jackie says:

Happy Anniversary! God bless you both! Such a lovely and inspiring post as always! You’ve helped with my Spring fever and shown me reality! *g* Be safe in the storm!!!!!!

  16. Suzan says:

    Hi Susan,
I was thinking about all of you on the Wast Coast this morning when I was watching the weather. Good luck with all of that snow. We have not had a snow like that here in east central Illinois for about three years. This morning I went out to fill my bird feeders and I noticed that the birds were starting to sing in the trees. Also yesterday their was a whole flock of robins under a tree here at school. I am praying that they don’t get an unpleasant surprise.
I am so looking forward to your book. I love your art, and writing. It totally leaves me in awe that you hand write all of your things. It makes me very sad that handwriting is not taught in school now.
I hope you and Joe have a great day! Stay warm and give the kittys a pet from all the doxies at Ladybug Cottage

    • sondra fox says:

I love the name of your home…….Ladybug Cottage. About the Robins you saw……..I live in So. CA, one morning many years ago, I opened up the drapes in our living room to a wonderful sight. About 100 Robins ( I kid you not) hopping around on our front lawn, enjoying prevalent bugs. What a sight! They were migrating I’m sure. We don’t have many Robins (I adore birds), so I was thrilled. In an hour or so, off they flew, I’m sure to their favorite residence. Wish we had more Robins here in our part of the world. They enjoy moister places where it rains periodically. (Sandy of Chihuahua Flats)

    • Suzan says:

Hi Susan I know that you guys are on the east coast! For some reason I have my mind on the west coast right now. Enjoy the snow!
      Suzan

  17. Barbara (WA) says:

Popped over to check on you when I heard about the coming storm and discovered a heart-warming post! You know we all have a crush on Joe 🙂 Congratulations on 26 years!!! Question: do you think you will feel a bit lost when the book is completely finished?

    • sbranch says:

I know I will, I always do. It’s very strange to wake up and do something different! Plus, I will miss it!

  18. BJ says:

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! Whether they are big extravagant affairs, or quiet dinners for two, they are wonderful and special times to celebrate. Really enjoyed your post today. My DH is very romantic too (we hit the 41 year mark last August) — he even enjoys watching Jane Austen and other ‘chick flick’ movies with me. And if it is a tear jerker we dare not look at each other as he cries in them as easily as I do. LOL
I have our bag of Valentine’s Dark Chocolate M&M’s all ready to dig into, but Vicky is way ahead of me. 3 bags already? Now that’s living!
Sounds like you are all prepared, or as best you can be, for the storm headed your way. That fireplace will get a work out — not a bad thing. Be safe.

    • Vicki in Cincy says:

Hi BJ, yes I am a candyoholic…I have to have some every day. Sometimes it’s a little…sometimes it’s alot! LOL

      • Chris Wells from West Texas says:

My kinda gal. It should be all about the chocolate!

      • Libby Pasztor (Grayslake, IL) says:

I used to work at my local library, at the Circulation Desk, and we ALWAYS had a bag of M&M’s stashed in a drawer somewhere……Whenever that many ladies are working together, chocolate can’t be far behind! (Now that I’m retired, I sometimes put a bag of M&M’s in the book drop, just for old times’ sake! 🙂

  19. Debbie Johnson says:

    Happy Anniversary!!!
Another beautiful post. Love, love, love your bowls!
I have so many pretty old things and have often wondered what kind of past stories they have had. And how lucky I am to be part of their lives!
Thank you for taking the time in your very busy schedule to share with us girl friends.
    Hugs Susan,
    Debbie

  20. Jean says:

Susan- I know you have been so very busy with your new book and celebrating your anniversary, but I was so happy to see a new post in your blog this morning. I just love that you will be covered in snow…blizzards are fun if you are warm, safe, have good food, tea, coffee, books and pets. Take care and enjoy!

  21. Liz Phillilps says:

Susan, I think besides love, the main reason you two have been together for so long is because not only is Joe a peach….but you know it and appreciate it!! The saying goes “there’s a lid for every pot” and I think you’re both perfect fits. Happy Anniversary

of course, I’m sure it doesn’t hurt that Joe is so handsome! Hubba Hubba ♥

  22. Lynn McMahon says:

    ~Good Morning~
    Happy Belated Anniversary!
We in SE Wisconsin are ” Battening the Hatches” for our official first winter storm (warning)!
I guess they name the winter storms now~ this one is called “Nemo”~ sounds very Nor’easterish doesn’t it?~ Right now it is raining~ freezing yuk out there~ a good day to go through the recipe books and organize them~ also have to decide what we will be having on Fat Tuesday to go along with my Jambalayla and my first attempt at a homemade King cake~
~Your dishes and table are beautiful! ~ I have to tell you of my thrift shop finds from this past week~ a blue Lefton paisley print sugar bowl and creamer ($7.50) and a banana dish!($2.50)!
The store clerks were so impressed with me~ they had no idea what the mystery glassware was~ I said to my friend “Susan Branch told me what it was!”
    ~Stay safe and warm girlfriends!~

  23. Happy Anniversary to you and Joe! Mine is this month too – 30 years! So happy for both of us :0D . The fireplace made me LOL! How did you do THAT?! So funny… We are hunkering down in eastern CT too! Have to run to the store soon to make sure we have a few necessities for the BLIZZARD! I certainly hope everyone stays safe but I am actually looking forward to a big whomp of snow all at once! The dogs will love it and we will be forced to cuddle in and stay home! Won’t be able to ice skate though as we have been this week. I will take some pictures too – mine aren’t as good as yours – tell me again what kind of camera you use?

  24. Patricia from Philly says:

Hello Susan! Happy Anniversary! We had our 36th anniversary yesterday, (of our first date). I have to tell you, I am one of those people who LOVE LOVE LOVE snow, so I am ultra-jealous of that “historical snowstorm” that is coming your way. We have had a dusting here, a sprinkle there, but nothing more than 2 inches this year. 🙁
I love the “hibernation feeling” one gets when there is snow all around, everywhere you look, everything you see, is covered in white.
Maybe I should pretend all the rain that’s coming our way down here is really snow, and plan accordingly!
I am so looking forward to the new book, and the new Valentine Willard.
Thank you so much for all you do for us Girlfriends!

    • Linda from Lancaster Co. PA says:

I totally agree with you, Patricia! I was hoping we would get snow out of this storm, but it doesn’t look like it. Just two or so inches here in Lancaster, as well.

  25. Dear Susan – what a joy it’s been getting back to visiting your blog! I do not know how you do it. I guess you are one of those amazings humans who can exist on very little sleep. Anyway, I just loved lookin at your post from last year with all the details of your anniversary festivities.
I never thought of giving a party for ourselves, but that’s a great idea. I love the idea of a brunch party, and since my hub’s and my anniversary falls on a Sunday this year, and since it’s a milestone of 40 years, you have gotten me thinking and inspired. Of course, the way you guys celebrated your anniversary this year is also so special – special because it’s how you celebrate your love and togetherness everyday!
Good luck with surviving the snowstorm – hope you don’t lose power, but thankfully, you have that wonderful fireplace. Hunker down and enjoy. Love to you and Joe and Girl Kitty and Jack!

    • sbranch says:

Yes Carolyn, give yourself a party, and the gift of it to all your friends! Celebrating love, who could ask for more!

  26. Andi M says:

    Hello,
Just went in to order the Mark Twain book you offer and it said it is out of stock. Should I just keep checking back? I hope it is something you will be getting in again. Planning to make the chocolate chip and orange tea biscuits this weekend. I love orange and chocolate together. Thanks for the lovely photos. You have reminded me how important it is to get cheek to cheek in front of the camera with your hubby. I need more of those photos with my guy. It will be 15 years in August, woo hoo!

    • sbranch says:

Yes, it will definitely be coming back in. We always carry that book … love it so much. Yes, lots of photos, you will always love that you have them!

  27. Monica says:

Happy Belated Anniversary! This post is full of love!
    Monica
P.S. (I told you I’m in the P.S. club!:)) love the heart shaped biscuits, when I saw them I thought they were fruit scones!

    • Debbie P ~ Weedsport, NY says:

      Monica ~
I made these last Valentine’s Day for my sisters…they are DELICIOUS!
I used a mini muffin tin, though….you will LOVE them!

  28. Val says:

Oh! Happy anniversary! That does indeed sound like the perfect day. Congratulations! ♥♥

  29. Jenny says:

Oh CoNgRaTulAtiOns on 26 years together. How sweet you two are. I love all the little peeks into your new book. So exciting!

    Stay warm and snuggly,
    Jenny

  30. Sharon Byars says:

Love your photos ! They just brighten up the entire day. One big Valentine for us to enjoy. Congrats on your anniversary.

  31. Marie (Long Beach, CA) says:

What a beautiful post and yes it is romantic! Happy 26th Anniversay! It’s wonderful how happy you and Joe are with your life together. I’ve sent prayers for everyone to be safe, before, during, and after the blizzard. I’m certain you and Joe are prepared for any power outages, and that makes me very happy. Looking forward to the new Willard! Oh and I really love the month of February on my “Susan Branch” desk blotter calendar! It just makes me smile. ♥

  32. Mary in Phoenix says:

It IS romantic … Thanks for another inspiring post! And with a crackling fire no less … WOW. Loved the connection of tea to romance … it’s a perfect analogy! Happy Anniversary … and Happy Willard … and Happy Book! I just know you’ll find another exciting & motivating project when it is finished. Stay warm and cozy during the “historic” storm. My daughter was planning to travel from Boston to Phoenix this Saturday but her airline called yesterday … yes, called … and got her on a flight out in the afternoon … to our shouts of glee! Now she can watch the blizzard from 72 degree sunshine 🙂 Happy day to all the girlfriends and remember:
“There’s nothing you can know that isn’t known.
Nothing you can see that isn’t shown.
Nowhere you can be that isn’t where you’re meant to be.
    It’s easy.
All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.” XOXO

  33. Donna Kohler says:

Oh, Susan, your posts are so wonderful and inspiring! Hubby brought me a morning cup of coffee and we read your blog post together, that’s romantic to me, the little things count so much. Happy anniversary to you and Joe.

Your transferware bowl is lovely, beautiful lines. I have the same thing about things from the past, especially my vintage treadle sewing machines. I often wonder, who first bought the machine, was a wedding dress ever stitched on the machine, was it mother or grandmother, did a woman with children ever use it to earn money to make ends meet.

The snow looks so beautiful and I look forward to pictures of the blizzard if you post any. Now back to my California mid winter fog view, LOL.

    • sbranch says:

We’re already planning to go out and play in the snow … when it all settles down! Will try to take pictures!

  34. Sylvia Cowen says:

    Sounds like you have had a wonderful 26 years together – Happy Anniversary! It was a great surprise to scroll down to an action picture of a roaring fire. Sylvia :}

  35. Priscilla from So. Ca. in SD says:

Happy Belated Anniversary Susan and Joe! Stay warm, cozy and safe and enjoy the storm! You are both special people!

  36. Carol Hesch says:

Happy Anniversary! I needed your post today–always lifts the spirits:) Can’t wait for ‘our’ book!! 🙂 Enjoy your cozy fires which I am quite sure you are snuggling up to.

  37. Another lovely post!!!!

My daughter lives in Massachusetts and she headed out this morning to the grocery store with five children along to “top off” their groceries at home. She thought originally there was enough but when the storm warning switched to blizzard warning…

I love cookbooks and love to read them (yours are longtime favorites, of course). A new-to-me cookbook I bought recently is Homemade by Clodagh McKenna who is an Irish cook-chef that has a PBS series about farmer’s markets in Ireland. I loved it so much that I bought it for my eleven year old granddaughter’s birthday last week. Yes, she has requested cookbooks for a few years now. She and my daughter have said the same thing I already thought, it is one of the most beautiful cookbooks we’ve ever seen (not to mention it has great recipes). I think you would like it, too. There is even a chapter about Irish teatime!

Can hardly wait until your new book is done!

  38. patrica says:

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY !, TO A SWEET BEAUTIFUL COUPLE.

  39. Gert~Iowa says:

Happy Anniversary Joe & Susan! Love how you celebrated …isn’t he just the sweetest guy? He reminds me so much of my Tom! Loves to surprise me too..usually that brings on a few tears…I’m so sentimental! We do the same with recipes..ha..ha! And here I thought we were the only ones who did that!! Wow! I worry about you and your winter storm and pray you are all stocked up with survival supplies! By the way I love how your fireplace burns for us! Amazing!

    Stay safe…blessings,
    Gert

    • sbranch says:

We are safe here Gert. The house has stood for so long, we feel safe and Joe was brought up in New England; he knows the perils. I’m in good hands! Thank you!

      • Gert~Iowa says:

Oh, that makes me feel so much better. I watch your forecast and was reading it to Tom…he said “oh, my goodness, that’s a terrible amount of snow!” Doesn’t it feel good just to have that security of someone like Joe..who has lived it and pretty much knows what to expect? And to feel safe in your own home! Blessings my friend.

        • sbranch says:

Oh yes, without him, I might have to not be here! There are so many things living in snow country demands. It was such a steep learning curve when I got here. Who ever heard of storm doors or antifreeze in your car? Not me!

          • Linda from Lancaster Co. PA says:

oh, Susan, that makes me smile (being a PA girl all my life).

          • Pat Mofjeld from St. Paul, Minnesota says:

I had a friend who moved here from warmer climates who asked me why some of the cars had electric wires with 3-prong plugs hanging from the front grills of the cars! (Tank heaters!) LOL!

          • sbranch says:

I’ve never noticed that here! Not that they don’t do it — “noticed” is the operative word!

          • Gert~Iowa says:

Ha..ha…I can just imagine! It is just second nature for us who are use to “winter” weather…including tank heaters…. (lol) especially on diesel vehicles… But..storm doors have always been on our homes and never knew any different..smile… I hope that snow isn’t piling up to much. Snuggle in and stay safe and warm!

  40. Maria says:

First of all – Happy Anniversary! 26 years is quite an accomplishment.
Second of all – the picture of you in your saddle shoes in the last post was the best. So cute!
And Thirdly – what I wouldn’t give for one of your “scrap” papers. I guess you just can’t help making beautiful images.
    Stay cozy!

  41. Rosanne (Oregon) says:

Happy Anniversary! “Here’s to you, a wonderful pair, we celebrate your love affair.” Wishing continued happiness to two people who obviously spread it to others every day.

  42. Janelle says:

I love how you are so excited for the snow! Living in East Tennessee we rarely see much! Stay safe and enjoy! Happy anniversary!
    Janelle

  43. Holly says:

So wonderfully romantic~ happy anniversary! Enjoyed all the romance today, thanks!

  44. Susan, “Happy (Belated) Anniversary” to you and Joe. It sounds like a wonderful match and I loved the practice of you reading recipes to each other.

One more thing. I bought your wall calendar for the first time and so enjoy looking at it. Thank you for including the celebration days special to Canadians.

    Stay warm,
    Karen

    HAPPY ANNIVERSARY SUSAN !
ours will be 41 this year and i will have to use an idea or two from you to make it romantic. i think we appreciate each other more now than ever. life is full of blessings.
i do have a question for you, i tried to make valentine cookies with my grandkids and the dough always spreads so much you loose the shapes. do you have a cut out cookie recipe in one of your books? they are so fun to ice and decorate.
    thanks!!

    • sbranch says:

Yes, use either the Butter Cookie in my Christmas book, or Ginger Crisps in the Autumn Book.

      • patti says:

thanks so much, will try them both. the grandkids love making cutout cookies. what fun.

love the “blazing” fire in your post 🙂

Congrats on your celebration, my husband and I are going to Iceland to celebrate our anniversary. Hope you survive the snow storm and it is not as bad as they predict. Loved Joe’s postcard and may save it to my desktop to enjoy.

  48. Phyllis Mullins says:

Congratulations on your anniversary! John and I had 59 together before I lost him and they were happy years… I wish the same for you two. Phyllis in Tx. ps: I’m happy I’m not getting the blizzard coming your way, brrr

  49. Susan W says:

So much fun to open up a new post from you this morning! Happy Anniversary to you both! The photo of you two is darling! So relaxed & so happy. Thanks for a new attitude towards the coming winter storm. About this time of year I’m starting to crave warm sunny days and just think of “more snow” as a huge bother to everyone. I always used to love it so and now I’m beginning to smile about a huge “dump” this week. We are going to a friend’s WinterFest, where they have snowshoes, skiing, sledding on newly build ramps & hills, lots of pot- luck foods and tons of snow! About 150 people show up to go play in the snow together. Last year there was no snow and we missed WinterFest. I like to build a huge snowman in their front yard for next year’s Christmas card and watch people on fast sleds race down the hills. Our friends live in the snow belt and get Lake Effect Snow “dumps”. Enjoy your good fortune in getting a beautiful storm on the island!

    • sbranch says:

We need a really good one to get it out of our system! 🙂

      • Susan W says:

A good historical storm must have got it out of your system for a while! BTW, the Winterfest was cancelled, get this, due to LACK OF SNOW! In NW NY, of all places. One year, they had to hire some Amish neighbors to shovel snow off their roof 5 times; they only have help shoveling off snow on the roof when it’s over 4 feet deep on the roof. That was in 2010-2011. Maybe later this month…

  50. Patty in Michigan says:

Dear Susan, a winter storm! Sounds like a cuddle alert to me! Happy Anniversary to you and Joe. I can tell you two are little lovebirds. Have a happy day! We may get a little snow our way this evening. We’ll see! Blessings to you and Joe! Patty

  51. MaryAnn says:

Happy Anniversary! Sounds like you had a perfectly lovely day. Please tell Joe thanks for taking such good care of you while you work on “our” book. I am so excited for it to come out! That looks like quite some storm headed your way. Stay safe and tucked in with firewood, candles, quilts, tea and those precious kitties. Blessings.

  52. Sandi Skeels says:

Happy Anniversary~~My thinking as I see this resting above a window in my cabin sums the two of you ”purr~fect~ly” ….you do~~~

LIVE WELL LAUGH OFTEN LOVE MUCH !!!!

    Smiles and Sparkles …Blessed Be

  53. CarolK (NJ) says:

Happy Anniversary you two! What a wonderful way to spend it. We like to do the together alone thing for ours also……..the first thing I did when the weather map came on TV this morning was check out MV and the Cape. Sounds like you’re going to get hit harder than we are in central Jersey. Our rug hooking guild (www.HCRAG.com) already cancelled tomorrow’s meeting in anticipation of a nasty storm (better safe than sorry). So we all hunker down and wait out the thing. Be safe and hugs from NJ……..P.S. I’m going to bake a red velvet cake in my heart-shaped pan for Valentine’s Day and check one of your books for a fantastic frosting for it. You need to do a book that has a little of each holiday in it.

  54. pat addison (cave junction,OR ) says:

good morning susan, hello girlfriends. Happy Anniversary susan and joe. wow 26 years, i hope we see 26 years, well we are almost halfway there…we celebrated 12 years this past January 29th. we celebrated by having waffles for dinner, along with bacon and eggs. we went out on the weekend and had mongolian bbq and this weekend we are going out for chinese food, sunday is Chinese New Year, year of the snake. A Happy Chinese New Year to everyone, hope it is a happy, healthy and prosperous one for everyone. we are expecting a small snow storm here in Oregon, should be getting rain/snow showers by later this afternoon and tonight with some more tomorrow morning. you two stay warm and safe during that blizzard, keep the kitties close to you and warm and safe by the fire. off to go feed the turkeys and chickens and refill the duck pool, they splashed it all out already. have a great day everyone. hugs…… 🙂

  55. Sharon Calvert says:

HAPPY 26th ANNIVERSARY! May the next 26 be even bigger and better. Simply adore the photo of you two … made for each other. Wishing you safe and snuggly passage through the approaching storm.

    Sharon in Alabama

  56. Linda Pintarell says:

Ahhh. What a lovely post! Especially loved the beautiful postcards. You don’t see them too much anymore. Think…when was the last time you actually received a post card in the mail? Little sad. I spent a year in Europe in my early 20’s (way before technology allowed instant communication) and I sent my folks a post card every three days so they would know I was okay. Mom saved them for me. Unfortunately they were lost in my house fire a few years so…but it was such a good way to look back on my trip. Stay warm…and Happy Anniversary to you and Joe.

    • sbranch says:

I don’t think they even had such beautiful postcards during my postcard-writing years … just photos or plain! They used to be just beautiful!

  57. Jen Suydam says:

Ohhh, Susan – those banana fritters look DANGEROUS! I so love the photos of your charming, snowy house… Snow makes everything magical. 🙂 And that photo of you and Joe! Awwwww! Such a beautiful couple. Thank you for always sharing so much with us!

  58. Marysol says:

According to our meteorologist (has ‘meteorologist’ ever been abbreviated? What about ‘abbreviated?’ :), we’ll be getting hit with about 2 feet of snow later in the day. And I’m building a fire already; your tea biscuits may be next on my list.

Happy Anniversary to you and Joe!

P.S. I’ve collected white ironstone for quite a while, and thought I’d have no interest in collecting anything else…until your transferware bowl with its pretty scalloped edge fell off your kitchen table and into my heart.

  59. Deborah says:

Such a heart warming post! Happy Anniversery to you both…two peas in a pod! We also are in the circle of this momentus blizzard watch, and being on the edge of the great lakes, we often get a back lash of lake effect after the blizzard! Time to shop for goodies and fire up the bread maker…hope the power stays on for us all! I will be looking to do some online shopping if it does! love your romantic goodies here…just beautiful along with the transferware! Stay safe, and I will look for a post on the ‘other side’!

  60. Heartsdesire says:

Glad to see you are taking such an optimistic attitude to the up coming blizzard. Snow doesn’t make me giddy anymore since I’ve been living on the west coast now for over 40 years. When it snows here in Victoria, it’s just a nuisance. No one ever has snow tires, and they really don’t know how to drive in snow. Happy, happy anniversary, you and Joe are a great couple and sometimes, a low-key day is just right. Getting so excited for the finishing of the book, hope we’re not putting to much pressure on you to get it done, but I’m sure I speak for all the girlfriends, we just can’t wait!

  61. Rita Baker says:

Happy Anniversary! Be sure to take photos of the snow and post them – we’ve had a measly 9 inches so far this year here near Chicago. I bet those photos will be beautiful! Keep safe and warm!

  62. Jennie says:

    Hi Susan!

I was so happy to find a new post from you today- just what I needed to pick me up!
I love romance . . . I think you captured many of it’s aspects beautifully. Oh, snow! Oh, yes! And vintage valentine postcards (I have a little collections myself) And roses in winter and summer days remembered . . . and kitties, because kitties enhance everything! And painting! . . . doing anything creative just whisks me off into happiness and contentment. 🙂
I think your anniversary day sounds lovely- what could be better than celebrating 26 years together than by simply enjoying an ‘ordinary day’ together? (with added roses and cake, of course) That’s the good stuff, the stuff we really remember.
For me nothing is more romantic than seeing my husband washing the dishes every night. He’s done this forever, but sometimes I get ‘new eyes’ and really see . . . I notice how well he looks from the back; how he throws out one-liners to whatever music he’s listening to. How he STILL doesn’t know where that certain bowl belongs . . . 😉 That’s the good stuff that I know I’ll remember long after the wine and roses. Sometimes just living life together willingly says it all!
Happy Anniversary to you and Joe!

  63. Ruthie P says:

Happy Anniversary Susan and Joe!!! Hey wonderful you……you,Joe and kitties be safe!!!! You are LOVED. XOXO Ruthie

  64. Barb from Ohio says:

Happy Anniversary, Susan! It’s amazing how the little things we do for each other seem to be the most important. For my hubby and I it will be 27 yrs in June. I’m glad the book is going so well and almost done, enjoy the pictures you post that will be in the book. Hope you stay snug and warm during the blizzard and get to enjoy the snow after. If the electric goes off, you still have your fireplace (and each other) for warmth and can light some candles for a warm flow. How romantic!

  65. shelley from Home says:

Happy Anniversary Susan! So nice to hear from you today. I love the breakfast table setting, how beautiful. I have been laid up from a knee operation, and I was so excited to get your post. It always makes me feel so comforted. Can,t wait for Willard. Hope the storm is not to bad, stay safe and be well.

  66. Barbara says:

Hi Susan, Happy Anniversary to you and Joe. Mine is February 13th and it will be 31 years for us. How time flys when your with the one you love. Our celebrations have been big and small and I really enjoy the small ones the best. Dinner, the fireplace and an old movie is all we need to celebrate. I live in the Worcester, MA area and am anxiously waiting for the snow to come and then be gone. Stay warm and safe to all our girlfriends in the blizzard areas.

  67. sue ziff says:

Another wonderful post Susan ………….. A VERY Happy Anniversary to You & Joe !
Stay safe and warm in your cozy haven during the storm ! <3

    Hugs,
    Sue Ziff,
    Monson, Ma.

  68. Marsha MacLean says:

Isn’t it romantic, indeed! Love the post this morning, Sue, and so glad to know you two are well prepared for the power outages that could happen. I worried when blizzard warnings were on the news for the east coast this morning.
It was wonderful to re-live the breakfast you shared with all of us cyber-girlfriends last year. I swear its almost as good as being there! Happy anniversary again, and stay safe!

  69. viv says:

Happy Anniversary to you and Joe. Loved this post as I do each and every one.
We had our little bit of snow last weekend and enjoyed it. Now we’re enjoying daffodils and I just saw some hawthorn blooms beginning to peek out. I’m resisting the temptation to rake the leaves out of the flower beds. It isn’t quite spring, yet. I loved the fire picture. Snuggle up and stay warm.

  70. Bobbie Ann Picard says:

Happy Anniversary to you and Joe!!! Stay safe and warm in the blizzard that’s coming to your house. I’ll be watching the weather this weekend to see how everything is going.
Your anniversary, was it the 6th? Our’s is Feb. 12 and we celebrate 42 years. It seems like yesterday. Love to you both. xxxxxxx Bobbie

  71. Ann says:

Happy Anniversary ( a day late) to you and Joe!

I love the month of February because I love red, hearts, and Valentine day…but I think I love it best because January is over! I think it would be so romantic to get married in February, but I would be afraid of a blizzard on my wedding day! That is why I got married in May in Rhode Island! Did you get married on Martha’s Vineyard or in California?
I hope you and Joe enjoyed the coconut cake after dinner! ( My favorite too!)
    Ann Beirne

  72. Snap says:

Happy Anniversary! Stay warm and safe in the storm.

  73. Sharon in So. Calif. says:

Happy 26th Anniversary Sue and Joe. Loved your romance blog. I think you two are a true “Match Made in Heaven”. I loved the picture of Girl trying to “save” her tablecloth while brother Jack did the chair “aerating”, too much! I am also now going to try the banana fritters, they look so good. I also want to make that amazing looking cheesecake. Your breakfast table from last year was just beautiful. Stay safe and cozy.

  74. Laurie Walt in Illinois says:

I love the sweet look on girl kitties face! She looks like she loves you so much. Happy Anniversary to you two! Sometimes it’s nice to be in survival mode, it brings us together! Stay by a warm fire, drink tea, snuggle, sleep and repeat! Can’t wait for the book. Oh by the way, weren’t you writing a breakfast book awhile ago? I’m getting my dog Hope on Sat.! You’d think I was preparing for a new baby. Can’t wait! Be safe.

    • Janet [in Rochester] says:

You ARE getting ready for a new baby, Laurie! Just not a human one! Congratulations – that’s great! :>)

  75. Wanda in Louisiana says:

Oh Yes! It IS romantic! Loved your blog today! And it’s good that you remind us of wonderful recipes, like the heart shaped scones. Hope your blizzard is perfect in every way – (hopefully, if power goes out – it will be on soon). How do ya’ll keep your pipes from freezing???? Love the beautiful winter snow scenes you’re sending. Have a safe, warm, and wonderful snowy weekend!

  76. Maria in Long Beach, CA says:

I just realized that I’ve never imagined Joe speaking…haha :o) Only after you said you read recipes aloud to one another could I imagine you both talking, laughing and just enjoying each others company…for 26 years! Congratulations! Someone wrote in a post above that Joe “is a peach.” I’m sure that’s an understatement. How about a post from him once in a while? :o)

Be safe during the storm. In a weird way, I wish I could experience it. Sounds so romantic…coziness with a little danger mixed in…in my dream home!

After only discovering your blog a few months ago, I eagerly await EVERY post. Keep ’em coming!

    • sbranch says:

He likes my blog girlfriends, he even thinks of things we all might like, he is Ok with me blogging, but HIM doing it? No way! I know, cozy danger, the very best kind!

It’s true, and you can always send Valentines to your girlfriends too! And that quilt of your Great Grandma’s dresses! How wonderful!

  78. tricia neron says:

    Happy Anniversary to you both.

You look so pretty in that photo, those are the perfect colors for you. That sweater and scarf just brighten up your whole face. I have been dying to have my colors done ever since you blogged about it. I bought a mustardy yellowy almost neon sweatshirt on clearance at Target the other day, just to bum around the house in. Wasn’t crazy about the color but it was $3.00, so why not? I got so many compliments that day on how good I looked and I wasn’t even wearing make-up. Just goes to show you, when you wear the right colors something magical happens.

    • sbranch says:

That’s exactly how they describe what happens when you are getting your colors done. Colors you may never expect to be yours, actually are, and you look good when you wear them! It’s very odd, but once you get the understanding of how it works, you just go with it and never look back! It’s really quite empowering in the end.

    • Janet [in Rochester] says:

Tricia, go for it! Sue’s right & you’ll be really glad you “were done.” If for no other reason, the time you’ll save makes it TOTALLY worth it! :>)

      • tricia neron says:

Thanks ladies, we are planning a trip to the Vineyard this summer to stay with some friends and I think I am going to go off for the day to get my colors done. I will keep you posted and let you know how it goes.

  79. Julie Marie says:

Oooh Susan, how exciting, Happy 26th Anniversary to you and Joe your love!… I looked at your last years anniversary breakfast… soo beautiful!… I especially loved darling Jack “aerating” the chairs for you!!!… looks like your weather last year at this time was ALOT different than you are going to get now… hope you are all hunkered down for the big blizzard, and I am sure you have all the supplies you need… I always make sure I have plenty of Tessy’s dogfood when big storms are predicted… Jack and I could get by with something around the house, but my sweet little English Pointer needs her special all~organic food… by the way, since she is “English” she asked me to tell you she is excited about your book too… she wants to see where her “ancestors” came from!… and today is HER birthday!… truly this is a month of LOVE… your postcard at the top of your post is so beautiful!… and the photo of the Emma Bridgewater factory just takes my breath away… I had to stop reading your post in the middle as my mailman came to our door and yippee!… my Emma Red Fox cup just arrived… now I am really in LOVE!… oooh, and I loved the pic from with Jack laying by one of his rubber bands!… and sweet Girl Kitty just looking beautiful as always… also excited for my Willard… my, one good thing after another!… I am also in LOVE with the tea strainer you designed… I want one! … wish they were not long gone… do you notice I use the word “LOVE” alot… sometimes that is the only word that describes things for me!… so looking forward to the book, I can hardly wait… sending you and Joe best wishes for many many more romantic years together in your peaceful and beautiful home on Martha’s Vineyard… one day, I would love to visit that island so much, but unlike the other Summer tourists, I would want to come in the Fall… LOVE to you!… xoxo Julie Marie

  80. Julie Marie says:

Oooh, I just left a LONG comment but a screen came up that said “duplicate comment you already left that” but I hadn’t!… I only hit enter once… hope it comes through… if not, I will post another one later!… love you, xoxo Julie Marie

  84. Karen P. - Green Bay, WI says:

Isn’t it romantic?! Yes, it is! It ALL is! Love the blog filled with wonderful things. Those heart-shaped chocolate/orange tea biscuits ARE the best…especially warm right from the oven! Must make those this week! The snowstorm will just add to the romance….nothing like being snowed in and giving you an excuse to be cozy, light a fire, and bundle up under a warm quilt! Looking forward to Willard! hugs and love….Karen

  85. Carol Maurer from Eureka, CA says:

Happy happy anniversary to you and Joe!!!! I love it that you don’t have to plan anything special for an anniversary. Just realizing that you’ve been together thru thick and thin all these years is fantastic! Little surprises are so very special to pop into the day are fun to give and receive.

Stay cozy and safe with the storm coming your way. Spring will be coming soon though…. as soon as you are finished with your book 🙂

  86. sondra fox says:

Oh Susan, now I’m really concerned (I detest the word “worried”) about your family. I’ll watch the weather channel to know what’s happening in your neck of the woods. I hope the storm won’t be as bad as they say. Sometimes they’re right, sometimes they’re wrong. As for the word “worried,” my thoughts about that particular word is that it sounds weak, like someone “worries” & isn’t able to act upon something in even the smallest way.

Congratulations on your anniversary!! What a handsome couple you make
About growing old together. You won’t have any trouble because you enjoy the everyday, regular day without any hoopla. A little fire in the fireplace, your feet wrapped up in a comfy, cushy comforter, playing with your Jack, watching birds in your feeders, cooking & heating up the kitchen on a cold day, good friends dropping by for a chat or a special meal, simple things to be thoroughly enjoyed. I pray for normal everyday days, when nothing bad happens, enjoying the beauty of the world around us. when our lives are content & peaceful. I’m truly blessed that we’re able to enjoy what may to some people seem dull. You two may really enjoy growing old together, as long as you realize that there may be illness & pain, but luckily you can endure these as well. You & Joe, as well as your kitties, are a wonderful team. God bless you as you meet the challenges of life in your own special way. You bring so much happiness to others as well, which is an important part of life, at least to my way of thinking. When any of you girlfriends out there are feeling “down,” all you need to do is do something good for your fellow man, or an animal in need of care. See how uplifting that sort of conduct can lift your spirits. That’s the sort of person you are Susan. I think that’s why you’re so happy. One last thought, I think you & Joe bring Valentine’s Day into your hearts each & every day. Blessings for many more days of enchantment. (Sandy from Chihuahua Flats)

  87. Regina Brown says:

Happy Anniversary!! And many more! It will be our 40th this year! Really 44 went were high school sweethearts for 4 years! Cant wait till your books out!!

  88. Renee says:

Happy Anniversary!! Stay safe during the blizzard! I live in Oklahoma and a weatherman here described the storm you are about to get as, “epic”. Meanwhile, the drought here continues…. Stay warm and cozy!!

  89. ♥♥♥♥♥Happy Anniversary Susan and Joe♥♥♥♥♥
I hope you are all safe and sound during the “historic” storm with “hurricane” force winds 🙂 I am sure you have lots of candles and firewood ready!! xoxo

  90. JoAnne Daniels says:

Very Happy Anniversary to you and Joe — you two really know how to enjoy each
day! An inspiration to us all… I can picture you snowed in, sitting in front of the fire with comfy slippers, a good book, and, of course, Jack and Girl. You have a husband who cooks!…how wonderful!! I always tell my husband, Dennis, that my
NEXT husband is going to cook!! I can always dream….luckily for him, I like to cook, so we’ll never starve! I’m thinking of baking cookies when I’m snowed in.
That is, if the power stays on. The weather mavens aren’t predicting a blizzard for N.J., but then again, you never know. Stay safe, stay warm, and remember to enjoy the romance of it all!
    JoAnne

    • sbranch says:

It’s a joy that we like to do it together, we don’t have a lot of kitchen counter space, so we have learned a kitchen dance that has a lot of dos-i-do in it!

  91. jane townsend says:

So many different comments to make: firstly happy belated anniversary – its so cosy to have an anniversary in winter especially so close to valentine’s day. Secondly I almost envy you a snow storm (though I realise its a pain for some people) – here in my part of England – Cambridgeshire – we don’t get deep snow, 2 or 3 inches if we’re lucky. Also I love your china ware. I have just acquired my parents dinner service they received as a wedding present in the early 1950’s and I really treasure it as it holds so many memories of Christmas’s birthdays etc.
Finally, I am really enjoying your 2013 calendar – its a first one for me.

  92. Lori from MN says:

Hi Susan~ Happy Anniversary to you both! Best wishes for another wonderful year of wedded bliss! Thanks, too, for your latest blog entry. I love the way you get my creative juices flowing. Between the beatiful photos, your wonderful way with words and your great “musica” selections I am always left feeling motivated to keep on creating magic in my home. Thanks for being you! Have a great day!

  93. Lori from MN says:

Oh, and enjoy your snow storm!

  94. Katy Rollins says:

Happy Anniversary Susan. Thank you for sharing your joy with us. I hope you and Joe stay warm and happy. The snow is falling fast in Wisconsin and heading your way!

  95. Sandy Richmond says:

Susan, Happy Anniversary! My husband and I have been married 36 years, soon 37. Over the years he has bought me jewelry, flowers, taken me out to eat, made me laugh, cooked for me, etc. This may sound funny, but I think the most romantic thing from him is the tears he cried when I told him I had cancer..
Getting ready to snuggle in for we are getting the same blizzard as you. We’re in an area likely to get 2 feet of snow! My romantic gesture for him was getting someone to come and plow the snow so my husband doesn’t have to do it.. It’s the little things, (and I don;t mind the jewelry either 🙂 )
    Stay safe and warm..

  96. Connie Michael says:

Happy Anniversary to you & Joe! 🙂 I was shopping at Tuesday Morning’s over my lunch hour today – they had bowls made in England with a red pattern much like the bowls in your pictures….only inside of the bowls it said “LOVE” in several different places…..very pretty! And I thought about how you would love these…there were plates, mugs, and a larger serving bowl also.

I have a question for you, Susan….I have your freebie wallpaper downloaded on my computer – the one with your ironing board – and am wondering if that’s a quilt you use on your ironing board as a cover? And if so, did you cut it down from a larger size to make it fit better? I haven’t found any covers that suit me at the stores – and I have several well used but still very usable quilts that would work for this…..any pointers you can give will be appreciated!

Stay warm & hope you get M&M’s! 🙂 Connie

Yes, it’s a quilt … I didn’t make it, but I think it would be really easy to do, even if you just laid the ironing board upside down on top of the quilt and cut wide around it so you can fold it over and slide through some heavy elastic. You could also Google “ironing board cover patterns” — it should be easy! And they are thick and soft, the way an ironing board cover should be!

We did that, but the way it’s been going, we’ll probably do it again tomorrow! They are hungry these days, keeping warm by constantly eating!

Happy Anniversary! I remember the snow and blizzard days from when we live in NH. Mad dash for groceries, carry in more wood for the woodstove and get the beef stew going. It actually was a fun adventure, if you didn’t need to drive. Stay warm and cozy!
