BLIZZARD WATCH

Hi Girls!  It’s 24°, sun’s just up, blue sky, no wind, but we are on a Blizzard Watch!  They are talking 1-2 feet of snow for Martha’s Vineyard, probable power outages!  “Crippling Blizzard!”  Yikes! But we have MUSICA

I just love this photograph.  I took it at the Emma Bridgewater factory, in a very old building in Stoke-on-Trent in England.   The factory was so organized (everyone knows where they keep the rubber bands) and no matter where you looked, tea was at hand.  It’s an interesting juxtaposition between the hearts and the walls, a little romance can brighten up the darkest spot!

My theme today is Romance.  Has to be, because yesterday Joe and I celebrated our twenty-sixth anniversary!  This is one of the wonderful postcards in his collection.

Last year at this time we celebrated our 25th by having an anniversary breakfast and inviting all of our friends.

I used champagne corks for place cards, old books, birds and flowers for the table, my Johnson Brothers Rose Chintz dishes, and a little bowl of chocolate kisses, because who doesn’t love a little kiss at breakfast time.  ♥ ♥ ♥

We cooked up a storm for this party and had a wonderful time doing it.

♥   ♥   ♥

Cooking is my idea of deep, dark, delicious romance.  Romance is all about the five senses and cooking appeals to them all, smells good, tastes good, looks, feels, sounds so good, and cooking includes the 6th sense, the sense of imagination and creativity.  These books are my idea of romance novels.  I love to read them and be inspired; sometimes Joe and I read recipes out loud to each other, like storybooks.  He will say something like, “Listen to this, they’re putting cinnamon in a taco!”

But you can see why — if this isn’t pure romance, I don’t know what it is.  And luckily, Joe thinks so too.  He is my victim, and I am his.

Making banana fritters is almost as romantic as eating them, especially when playing a little old-fashioned music.

Mmm, saw this picture of cheesecake as I was scrolling by, just had to put it in. Looks very romantic to me!

And then there’s tea . . . and all the romance around this sweet tradition.  I designed this tea strainer and Lenox made it …. of course they’re long gone but I still have mine, so I thought I’d show you how cute it was.

Maybe you need some chocolate-chip and orange heart-shaped tea biscuits to go with your tea?  So quick and easy, and such a nice way to say I love you. ♥  (I think we still have heart-shaped iron pans in our web store in case you need one.)

More romance, this lovely little embroidered beaded heart, was sent to me by my English Girlfriend Siobhan.  It hangs in the kitchen.  Love!

Someone wrote the other day, wanting to show my favorite piece of transferware.  That’s a difficult choice, but I think this bowl is it!  Not very big, but what a cutie.  “WOOD” is deeply stamped on the bottom; a very fancy pair of numbers are painted next to the stamp, “24.”  That’s all I know about this little pink bowl.  I always wish these things had tiny little chip video cameras on them so we could pop it into our computers and see everywhere they’ve been during their lives.  I’d love to see the women who bought these bowls, the very first tables they sat on, the cupboards they were kept in, who washed them, and what was in them.  Look how lucky the people of the future will be, we have videos of EVERYTHING.  But then again, maybe what makes it all so romantic is that it’s gone forever, and we just have to imagine.

So, yes, soon, it’s going to look like this around here! Even more — the weather man just said our storm will be HISTORIC!  How exciting!

How romantic!

‘Specially when I look out my studio window and see my guy taking care of things.

Our anniversary was very low key this year, no parties, just us, the kitties, the fire.  We’re planning to celebrate everything after the book is turned in and we return to our regularly scheduled life.  It won’t be long now!

I ‘m painting like crazy (I keep bits of scrap paper next to the page I’m working on, where I test the paint on my brush, or do quick squiggles — that’s what this is — don’t worry, it’s not going into the book!).  Joe is scanning the finished pages and sending them in as they are finished.  So yesterday, our anniversary was just a regular day, no special plans, we wished each other happy anniversary and that was about it, a special day, like any other.  Then he went to the supermarket for groceries and came home with roses.  He surprised me with them, I didn’t expect it, so I was very touched.  He is such a doll.  It was kind of like that heart cup in the picture at Emma Bridgewater’s — just the littlest bit of romance brightens everything.  He also hid a coconut cake in the back freezer.  So after dinner, which was ribs and sweet potatoes, he pulled out his surprise cake.

He is taking good care of me as I finish writing our book, and paint titles for the front cover.  It was the perfect Anniversary.  I could not have asked for any more.  ♥   ♥   ♥   So back to work I go.  I wrote a new WILLARD yesterday!  It’s being prepared now so it can be emailed to everyone.  I love writing Willards . . .  it’s hard to believe this is my first one for 2013!  The Valentine Willard will start going out February 12.  You should know, it has little surprises in it just for you. Because Valentine’s Day was invented for women! We need those little surprises!  Like roses.♥

I laid out the back cover of the book … then I took it to Joe to ask him what he thinks.  We feel so lucky because last year we had a celebration to last a lifetime and since then, we’ve been reliving it almost every day!

Twenty-six years together . . .

Isn’t it romantic?

  3. Julia says:

Thanks for all of the sharing of yourself with your girlfriends. Congrats
to a really PRETTY couple ! Whenever I see a picture of Jack and Girl,
I think Charlie Chaplin and Grace Kelly. How close am I?

    • sbranch says:

VERY good. Yes. She is cool, and he is a nut!

      • Janet [in Rochester] says:

I stand corrected. I had been thinking impeccably-tailored & tuxedoed-Cary Grant for Jack but at his age, cute-funny-Little-Tramp-Charlie Chaplin is far better! And cool-elegant-refined Grace Kelly is spot-on perfect for Girl K! You nailed them, Julia… :>)

  4. Lisa @ My Ordinary Country Life says:

Um…will you and Joe marry me……:)…and I would like banana fritters for our anniversary…..:) 🙂 🙂

  5. Mary from NJ says:

I think snow is enchanting and romantic…love to be home safe and warm with the one you love and your furry friends.

Thanks for such a great blog and beautiful artwork and photography. Love your home and your kitties…and your stories.

Can’t wait to see photos from the storm this weekend.
    Take care….

Your tweet informed me of your upcoming blizzard so happy I saw it to see your wonderful blog today. I wish there were “like” buttons at each stopping point throughout your blog; you’d be inundated! Here’s my thoughts as I ruminated several times through today’s entry:

    • You had me at B♥A♥C♥O♥N! You can keep the steak.
    • You are so darn clever with so many things, champagne corks as placecard holders (who doesn’t love a table dressed with placecards?)
    • How fresh the green foliage is in the picture or you in England! So needed in my world of white, brown and gray!
    • And a husband who not only cooks but brings you roses and cake! You are spoiled rotten (as you should be, of course)
    • You two are a darling couple, then and now! Happy Anniversary! (Today is our 28th anniversary of our engagement; I guess he couldn’t wait till Valentine’s Day!)

So sweet Sue, stay warm, blizzards and snow days off school were, and still are, some of my favorite days of winter! As long as everyone is safe and warm!

    Enjoy!

Hello Susan, It sounds like you had a very wonderful day for your annivesary. I love the snow and your fireplace is delightful… I can feel the heat. I live in Granbury, Tx and is has been in the high 70’s here the last few days. Is this really February? No blizzard here…Hope you both and the kitties stay warm, dry and safe. Anxiously awaiting the new book…My journey to England awaits through you. Love what you do. You are so inspiring..

  8. Happy Anniversary Joe and Susan!!!! Be safe and warm during your blizzard, get out the candles and wood for the fireplace! Wow you’re already doing the back and front covers! Does that mean the precious insides are done??? Your anniversary breakfast from last year has made me hungry! I still a year later have NOT made the banana fritters! Love the fireplace!
Hugs to all! Prayers for all of you up north!
    Jeannie

    • sbranch says:

I still have a bit more to do on the insides, but the cover is going to be printed in a catalog for the publisher, so it had to be finished first! Have a good day down there!

  9. Marianne says:

Happy anniversary! We are going to celebrate our 37th this May! Just love your blog. It brings me back to the years I spent living in New England. My husband and I have great memories of the snowy winters there. We live in Pennsylvania now so we get snow but not like those blustery winters up north. We are hoping for a good storm so we can light a fire, make some good soup and cuddle on the sofa with our dogs Daisy and Henry!

  10. Marianne says:

Hi Susan, my sweet husband and I got engaged on Valentines Day! So romantic!

    • sbranch says:

      Well, happy engagement anniversary Marianne!

      • Pat Mofjeld from St. Paul, Minnesota says:

Norm and I became engaged on Valentine’s Day, too, 29 years ago. He gave me a beautiful cut-glass prism heart to hang in the window and then asked me if I would marry him. At the time he lived and worked in another town so we just got together weekends. I said yes but now should I confess that I thought about it all the next week and the next weekend when we got together and he laughingly asked if I had any second thoughts, I started crying and told him that I thought I loved him but maybe I didn’t enough to marry him as I never wanted to leave the Midwest. Ha–as he puts it, I “presented him with the condition that we never move to the West Coast, we always stay in the Midwest”! Gee, that day seems like yesterday, in some ways…

I made Joshua’s Fish Chowder from the Black Dog cookbook for dinner tonight and thought of you two — wondering how much snow was forecast there. Happy
    Anniversary!

    • sbranch says:

TONS of snow!!! We are probably going to get 2 feet, and hurricane-force wind gusts. The neat thing about that, blowing snow, is so wild!

  13. Happy Anniversary! xxx ooo

    Enjoy the snow!!
I would love to join you in the storm…I love snow!

  14. Maureen says:

Happy anniversary to you and Joe! Stay safe and enjoy the blizzard.

  15. Ruth from Pennsylvania says:

Happy Anniversary you guys. Susan, I absolutely LOVED the “real” fireplace
ablazing away as I scrolled down the blog. How I wish we still had access to some of your earlier products. I realize some of those things couldn’t go on forever, but some of them were just too good to end. I still grab my package of 12 monthly sticker sheets (what’s left of them) when I’m addressing cards to mail. I bought those stickers ages ago and everyone always remarks how much they enjoy receiving my adorned envelopes. And the alphabet sticker sheets, in red, green, and pink. I can’t tell you how many names I have spelled out on envelopes, gift bags, etc. with those stickers. And one of your bookmarks that was an early snail mail Willard enclosure went with me everywhere I dragged a book to read. Just wanted to let you know how much your products and artwork are appreciated….by everyone.

today’s makes me happy for you. a little sad for lost love. sigh. but I truly am so happy for you, and Joe. blessings from sandy

  17. Juliana - Jackson, NJ says:

Oh Susan , so excited for you -I love a good snow storm! Just hope that it’s picturesque, and not damaging, then you can really enjoy it!Alas, doesn’t look like we’re getting much more than a messy, rainy mix. 🙁 Last year I was lucky enough to find a box of vintage looking Valentine cards, which I hope to make into some sort of garland this weekend – Joe’s postcards reminded me! How wonderful for you, (and how lucky for us) that you two have each other! Many, many more happy, healthy years for you both! So grateful for all you give us! Enjoy your cozy weekend!

  18. becki says:

Happy Anniversary, Susan and Joe…and wishing you many more happy years together. My little girl was sitting beside me while I read your last post and was asking to see Jack…and Mrs. Tiggywinkle and Jemima Puddleduck again…(from your last post)…she might be your youngest fan! We read Beatrix Potter every day.
I cannnnnotttt wait for the new book! I’m always worrying there won’t be enough to go around and I won’t get one…are you making sure to have plenty printed?:)
Stay warm and cozy in your New England Blizzard!

    • sbranch says:

Yes, I think we have it figured out how to make sure our Blog girls get their’s FIRST!

      • Rachel in PA says:

That makes me so happy! I also had the same fear that you would run out of books. Stay safe in the storm and happy anniversary to you!

  19. Peggy H. says:

Ella’s beautiful buttery voice, snow on Martha’s Vineyard, pink tablesetting, kitties to snuggle, antique greeting cards……heavenly. Don’t you just love the beginning credits in “The Family Stone” with the antique Christmas cards? Thank you for reminders of some of the very best that life has to offer. Made me feel so very happy to read your blog today. Stay snuggled up and warm! Thanks! Peggy

  20. Clairellen says:

Have you heard Paul McCartney’s song called “My Valentine?” It ‘s a new classic, if there is such a thing…a perfect song for a love like yours and Joe’s. I’m going to make the Chocolate Chip and Orange Tea Biscuits for breakfast tomorrow, thanks so much for the recipe.

  21. Mary Martin. (From Hermitage, TN) says:

I look forward to your blogs. They just make me smile. I saw your Christmas swag/garland and then the Valentine one. They inspired me and I made two Valentine swags. Would send you photos but not quiet sure how to do that here.

Hope you get to have some time to celebrate your anniversary soon. Congratulations to you & your husband.

    Mary Martin from Hermitage, TN

    • sbranch says:

Those swags are so fun to make! There isn’t a place to send pics here but you can send them to my FOSB Facebook page!

  22. Brenda Caldwell says:

Happy Anniversary to a wonderful couple! That is a gorgeous picture of you two 🙂
Stay safe in the storm, I’m sure it will make it even more memorable. (I can’t wait for Willard!)

  23. Pat Johnson of Paso Robles says:

Happy Anniversary to two fabulous people!! AHHHHH…..Joe & Sue! Keep very warm during this terrible storm. I hate it when “they” proclaim that an event is going to be “historic.” Makes you wonder!! I will be thinking about you both & the kitties as well. We are just going to have rain BUT it is suppose to be cold as well. Yuk! We had about 30 minutes of sunshine today and I took my grand-daughter Sophia outside to soak it in (she is 6 months old). I always bless the talent that you have been given. You are sooooo special!! Just thought you ought to know…..XXXXOOOO Pat

  24. Susan says:

Happy Anniversary!!! Stay safe and warm in the blizzard!

  25. Susan (in VA) says:

    Happy Anniversary, Susan and Joe!

I hope you and the kitties stay safe and warm during the blizzard. Fingers crossed that you don’t lose electricity, but it’s wonderful that you have a working fireplace as a backup for heat.

Snow is certainly beautiful, but I sure hate shoveling it. In my area, we have been remembering the big 2010 snowstorm (Snowmageddon) that hit right at this time of year. My car was buried under the 2+ feet of snow, plus the extra piled up by the snow plow. It took this old woman hours to clear my parking spot. And even the main roads were a mess for many days, making the commute to and from work a nail-biting experience. Yikes. I think I will enjoy the vicarious thrill of looking at your snow photos rather than experiencing it firsthand this time ’round. 🙂

Take care–and that goes for everyone else in the path, as well!

  26. Happy Anniversary Susan and Joe! I too am hunkered down in Central MA for this approaching snow storm. I plan on baking Peanut Butter Cookies (I always bake cookies when it snows) of which the recipe comes from my home economics teacher! I will also create some art work. I love being snowed in. I just hope everyone is safe and does not lose power.
I love the fork on the plate with the banana fritters, could you share any information about your silver pattern?
Thank you and stay safe this weekend!
    Karen

    • sbranch says:

Peanut butter cookies in a snow storm — how wonderful! My silver is such a mish mash, I really don’t know the names of most of the patterns. I received a small set from my Grandmother, then I’ve just added pieces here and there whenever I find them, nothing really matches, and that fork, is a no-name fork for me. Sorry!

      • Thank you for your reply Susan – you are a wonder! I LOVE old silverware and I also pick up pieces here and there. Lately I have been picking up butter knifes that have a twisted handle so that the knife portion stands perpendicular from the table and stands up by itself. Old things have such beauty, I love seeing all your collections and this is one small reason I love reading your blog. Can’t wait for the new book. Hoping one day you’ll consider doing a “Winter” cookbook.

  27. Maria Shiyou says:

Happy anniversary to you and Joe!

Down here in central Mississippi we are having temps in the 70’s! Wish we could have a little cold weather. We did have a small scattering of snow last month but it came and went before I even got out of bed!

  28. Silvia Niomi says:

Happy Anniversary!!!! what a cute couple you are. Sometimes a quiet celebration can be grand too.

I can’t explain it… I lived through the blizzard of 1978 in Chicago and how lovely that was. My husband is native to CA and when I tell him about how magical snow can be, he is not quite sure how to feel about that. For him, there is nothing magical about the cold. I tell him, that although it is true that working and going about daily life in the cold can be quite challenging, if a person can carve out quiet time in a cozy home, with a toasty fire in the fireplace surrounded by the ones you love, watching the snow swirl about, there is nothing quite like that. Snow just seems to quiet the world down and make it sleepy. It’s peaceful and serene. Many times I just miss having that experience.
    Stay warm and safe. xoxoxx

  29. Marianne in Hidden Meadows, SoCal says:

Happy 26th Anniversary Susan and Joe!!! Love today’s “musica” and Audrey Hepburn…..words aren’t adequate to describe her natural elegance. And her costumes in “Sabrina”! Designed by my couture idol, Edith Head. Went to the Road to California Quilt Show and was amazed at some the most beautiful quilts, not to mention all the wonderful shopping. I managed to stay within my budget, but just barely. Had to keep reminding myself to save some money for “THE BOOK”….can’t wait! 🙂 Here’s hoping you, Joe and the kitties stay snug and warm while the snow flies!

  30. Happy Anniversary to you both! Here’s to another 26! 🙂

  31. Laura B. Jenkins says:

Stay warm you two…tucked into your safe haven w/tea, kitties, good books, comfort food and a crackling fire! xo The transferware bowl could be by Enoch Wood, as mentioned above~the Wood family were celebrated potters in their day and were a major force in the development of Staffordshire. Ralph & Aaron were brothers, known for Toby cups and figures. Aaron apprenticed under Thomas Wedgewood. Enoch was Aaron’s son. Enoch Wood & Sons formed in 1818~most of their transferware was sent to the US and was mostly blue. Are you screaming TMI by now? I have a weakness for transferware…sorry to ramble~ 😉
the pink bowl is a treasure and probably has a wonderful history. xo

    • sbranch says:

I am reading with extreme fascination, no TMI Laura! I’ve read a lot about the potters of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire and Wedgewood, how the factories began. Here’s something we learned. Pot hole: The soil in Stoke is clay, so when people wanted some dirt to make a pot, they would just scoop a clump out of the road! Pot Hole. So grateful for those wonderful potters, they left behind such amazing beauty.

      • Janet [in Rochester] says:

No kidding – “pot hole?” I LOVE finding out the derivations for words! Isn’t it amazing how things that [on the surface] seem uber-ordinary have a real story behind them?

        I just LOVE this place… :>) xoxo

      • Joey says:

nancysdailydish.blogspot.com/2010/01/what-is-transferware-and-how-is-it-made.html…I like the plates but I didn’t know they were called transferware so I had to look it up….stumbled across this little how-it-is-done blog….fascinating! Who knew!?! Just spent our 31st in the Keys on a business trip with The Man…beats Chicago in the winter! You all enjoy that blizzard…stay safe and take pictures!
        Thanks for sharing!

      • Laura B. Jenkins says:

That is fantastic!…we have a lot of pot holes here…I will, from now on, pretend that a lovely piece of pottery will be born from the rut in the road… 😉

      • Judy Young says:

That must be the origin of the word pothole!!! LOL! Your transferware bowl is wonderful. I love it (along with all things similiar). Thank you for sharing it with us.

Here’s hoping that your power does not go out and that you stay warm and cozy throughout the blizzard. I am keeping up with it watching the news. I know you love the snow!

    • Wendy says:

So interesting Laura — I have always loved pottery and recently traced my
roots back to Stoke-on-Trent! Now I feel justified collecting it 🙂 So thank your for the info. No offense Susan — but the comments here are as much fun as the blog posts.

  32. Diane says:

I really enjoyed today’s blog- had an awful week at work and it really cheered me up, so thanks, I needed it! 🙂 Happy Anniversary to you & Joe- you were so lucky to have found such a wonderful guy! Your chocolate chip scones looked scrumptious! I, like you just LOVE England and I’m hoping to hop over for a short trip in the Spring. I’m in MA too, so we’re all set to hunker down for the big blizzard! Hope you weather the storm well out on the Vineyard! Blizzards are fun, aren’t they- I love watching them out the window with my kitties.

  33. Becky from Lockport, Illinois says:

A blizzard!! How wonderful! You could build a snowman or even a snow family. We just got sloppy rain last night but my son who lives an hour north of me got tons of snow. By the way I have all your books and my two Gladys Taber books stacked on my sofa table so I can have easy access to them. Also Elizabeth Barrett Browning was a favorite of my mom. She would recite “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways” We always thought she was thinking about my dad

  34. Betty Marie: Pennsylvania says:

The photo of you & Joe says it all….. I can see the two of you were ment to be.
    “Happy Anniversary”

  35. peggy says:

    Happy Anniversary and many more
we also are waiting the storm
plan to make cookis for my husky to give her friends
    for valentines day
love to kittys and of course JOE

  36. mary spring says:

…good morning, dear Susan…my last comment got stuck in moderation way back in your happy mood letter so I thought I’d write another quick comment..firstly, can you believe this upcoming weather event ?..I have loved ones living in Westerly and had advised them to prepare and when they have found Nemo just stay indoors till it passes…here is your incredible snow and then it is forcasted for rain on Monday….I absolutely love all your letters to us…you give us so much…so much joy and information..you seem like such a kindred spirit to all of us !!…’this is starting to get long …got to tell you tho I just love the warm fire you posted…simply amazing…as you and Joe are…Take care !!…and with love..

    • sbranch says:

We will Mary … I can hear the wind is starting up, but it’s still dark and not snowing yet! I’ve had to exchange my clogs already this morning, with the warm ones at the heating vent, it’s very nippy out there!

  37. mary spring says:

P.S. also had to comment on your comment to Laura..yes, being a potter myself, I have made my share of both wheel-throwing clay and sculpture clay and absolutely have always thought of the whole process of making pottery just fascinating !!

  38. mary spring says:

”’if you are ever in my “neck of the woods ” you could stop by and I could give you a quick lesson…I used to give lessons on throwing….it’d be fun..just saying..

  39. Janet says:

Happy Anniversary! Our anniversary is Groundhog Day. I lived in the town where the movie was filmed – Woodstock, Illinois – when we started our long-distance dating so I got a chance to visit all the movie sites with my future husband. I eventually moved to Pennsylvania to be with him, but Feb. 2 lives large in our legend. We finally tied the knot on 02/02/02. Now we fire up the computer and dance to the “Pennsylvania Polka” every year when Phil makes his appearance. You want romance? That’s romance!! 😉

p.s. Susan, some of us would love to be gifted with one of your scrapdoodle papers where you try out your watercolors!

  40. Chris Wells from West TX says:

You are going to get a STORM,! It’s just hard to believe while we run around in shorts down here in warmer than normal temperatures. And dry, dry, dry. We use to lose power a lot out here in the middle of nowhere and Jim ruined the experience by installing this generator that could run a large metro hospital! So when the power goes out…wait 5 minutes and poof….everything’s back on. Where is the romance in that, I ask? I like your idea; wood for the fire, candles, lots of blankets and kitties to snuggle, watching the storm in all her fury. Be safe and enjoy.
Can’t wait for Willard! And love Joe’s vintage postcards, especially the one with the Barn Swallows. STAY WARM!
    Chris

    • sbranch says:

I agree — we all need a little, and I do mean “little,” weather challenge every so often! Thanks Chris!

      • sondra fox says:

Chris, thanks for reminding me of what people do when their electric goes out. We don’t think of things like that here in CA, except when we have a huge earthquake (about every twenty years), so I’ve been concerned about people back east in this huge snowstorm & what they’d do with electricity out for a few WEEKS! Of course, “generators,” for those who can afford them. (Sandy of Chihuahua Flats)

  41. Ann says:

Happy Anniversary Joe and Susan xxxx What a lovely montage of romantic photographs to delight and inspire your readers and I love the snow and the blazing fire. The tea strainer is so cute, I’ve never seen one like that before, maybe it’s particularly American. Susan, you obviously have an eye for picking out the detail in the seemingly mundane because I love the picture you took at the Emma Bridgewater factory. It is a place I know well, we always stop off there for a delicious lunch on our way home from the north and we will be doing just that very soon. Will I be buying another piece of EB pottery – you bet I will! We are holidaying in a hotel on the lakeside near Windermere and we are SO hoping for some snow on the mountains because the Lake District looks just beautiful in winter. Really looking forward to your new book and hope it isn’t too long before it is available in the UK. Stay warm!
Love from Ann in Thame xx

    • sbranch says:

Loved reading your comment, and picturing all the places, because now I can. Lovely.

    • Marianne says:

Hello to you, Ann. I agree. It’s a lovely tea strainer – the one piece of SB Lenox I have and I love it. It’s on display – I can’t seem to get myself to use it it’s so pretty. I also got a pansy Emma Bridgewater cup/mug for my daughter that seems like a perfect match for it.

  42. Pam says:

Belated Happy Anniversary. Joe is such a lovely thoughtful man, I’m glad you both had an enjoyable if quiet day. I can’t wait for the new book and a Willard arriving soon, you’re spoiling us 🙂
Hope you survive the snow okay. They have forecast more here over the weekend and it is bitter cold. Looks like I have to dig out my thermals and tights for the Rugby tomorrow!!

  43. Lynn McMahon says:

    ~ Hi Again~
All our blog “love talk” got me thinking about anyone getting married this weekend on the East Coast~ all the chaos this storm is bringing~ and it all starts with one little snowflake!
~My prayers to anyone who is going to be seriously effected by this blizzard~

  44. Marcia A. Sherman says:

Dear Susan, Joe, and kitties –

Your love story gives me hope for my future. Blessings to all of you.

Looking at your ‘test pages’, I thought how amazing it would be to own one, or two. I don’t suppose you ever sell them or give them away? Perhaps the next time Vanna pulls a name from those who comment? Or an auction, the proceeds of which go to your fave charity?

    Happy Valentines Day!

    Marcia in Sewell, NJ

    • sbranch says:

Or maybe I bring some along on my book signings? I’ve been keeping the ones I used to make this book.

  45. Asha says:

Hi Susan! Happy Anniversary to you and Joe! You are an adorable couple! Your blog today is sooo romantic. Love the crackling fire! My order from your website arrived yesterday! I was sooo pleased with my vintage “Vineyard Seasons” book! Loved the hearts tissue paper it was wrapped in too! We are so blessed that you share your talents with us! THANK YOU!!!!!
We are preparing for “Nemo” here in central Mass. too. Had tea with my girlfriends last night and are planning a trip to the Cape in April for a “girls” weekend. We just may get to the Vineyard! Be safe during the blizzard. Love you!

    • sbranch says:

Oh I’m so happy you got one of those books, very good recipes in there! 🙂 Thank you, be safe too Asha!

  46. Minette says:

Happy Anniversary! What a wonderful day for you and Joe and sure you are looking forward to celebrating once the book is completed. I know that I can’t wait for it to be published and will be dancing when I finally can read it cover to cover (just can’t wait!! We will be thinking about all of you as the blizzard comes in and hope you keep warm and cozy inside. I love the photo taken at Emma Bridgewater. Little vignettes like that are just so special and evoke just so many moods and emotions. What a treasure you are! Your books and your blog just make me so very happy and inspired. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Happy Anniversary Susan and Joe <3 xoxo

  48. Anne Branco says:

Happy, Happy Anniversary Susan and Joe and many, many more. I’m sitting in my office here in Maine. The snow is just starting to come down very lightly. I just hope the bulk of it waits until everyone gets home safe and sound. And then it will be a nice, cozy weekend sitting in front of the fire. It’ll be fun to see how it all turns out. Good luck everyone in the north!

  49. LindaH (northern IN) says:

    Good morning, Susan!
Thanks for sharing your anniversary with us–I remember when you had shared last year’s big celebration with us! Yum, coconut cake–my favorite. 50. Gail Buss says:

Hi Susan and Joe…………..Happy 26th Anniversary and Happy Valentine’s Day! It surely will be cozy for you both to be snowed in…………..hope you have lots of kindling and firewood! Your blogs always inspire me, and I plan to make those Orange and Chocolate biscuits but it will have to wait a bit. I just loved everything and especially the little heart shaped picture of you and Joe on the table for your last anniversary breakfast and how beautifully the table was set. I must say the snow pics look so pretty as well. Yes, once the book is done you will get back to your regular life…………but don’t forget about the Pancake Cookbook because I haven’t forgotten and can’t wait for that one too. Looking forward to WILLARD with great anticipation. Were those pancakes heart shaped that were peaking out under the pan of bacon? Congrats again to you both, Gail & Joe Buss, Bev. Hills, Fl XXOO

  51. Sue in Fl. says:

    Susan,
So glad you and Joe had a happy anniversary. My husband and I willl celebrate our 44th in May. I was thinking about you last night when I heard the weather forecast. I looked up Martha’s Vineyard on Google earth to see exactly where you are. Hope you all weather the storm well and don’t lose power. Stay warm
    and stay safe.

    Sue in FL.

  52. Jackie Bienemann says:

    Happy Anniversary Susan and Joe!
Enjoy your snow, sounds like you will be warm and cozy! We only had rain here, not as pretty, but easier to drive in! Thank you for the romance and I will be looking forward to pictures of lots of snow and Willard!

Happy Anniversary! Enjoy the snow and stay safe!

  55. Lin says:

Happy Anniversry, Susan! Twenty six years is a real milestone in today’s world……”and many moooooooore” to you and Joe!

I’m writing as a snowbird, here in the FL sunshine, and I really feel left out, not being able to experience your blizzard – love being inside as it piles up! Be safe and cozy!

  56. Happy belated Anniversary. I saw someone else thought your paint test papers were worthy of keeping and maybe giving away or selling. They are to precious to throw away. I Keep hearing about that big storm heading your way and I hope you are all safe and sound there. At least it’s perfect weather to finish your book.

    • sbranch says:

Which is just exactly what I’m doing right now. Shawl over my knees, another around my shoulders, it’s quite a wild and stormy day here!

      • Shannon (Pennsylvania) says:

I read this again this morning…Gladys’ words never fail to ring true, do they?
“In February, after a big storm, the sun comes out with more brightness than at any other time in the year. The winter sky is pale and far-away and the snow is the essence of all the white there is. Thr glory of the sun with the pale sky and the white snow is breathtaking. The light has a purity, a dazzling serenity. How beautiful is the world! How fortunate we are, in spite of everything, to feel the infinite splendor of a day after a storm!”
Sending wishes that you, Joe, and the kitties enjoy the warm comfort and safety of your home during this blizzard. And when it lifts on out to sea and sun comes out again, I know you’ll enjoy that “infinite splendor” of the day after! Hugs.

      • Rhonda D. says:

Just checked on the weather, and this storm is massive and wild. They’ve just upped our snowfall for our area in the maritimes. I know you are well prepared and seasoned for these type of storms, but I hope you and all in your area are safe. A taste of a good old-fashioned winter I guess. On another note, I love this post (especially the fireplace…perfect for today). You and Joe have got to be two of the luckiest people on this planet. Take care during this wild weather. A perfect day to do exactly what you’re doing.

  57. Cathy Wegner says:

Happy Anniversary to you and Joe! I don’t like snow very much but I think I would like to be snowed in at your house. So warm and cozy! Stay safe!!

  58. Linda from Lancaster Co. PA says:

Happy Anniversary, dear Susan and Joe! How happy I am for you and now you get to snuggle down and have a real good old fashioned snow storm. Have fun! For me, half the fun is the anticipation and seeing those first flakes come down! Oh,my! I hope it happens to us this winter sometime!

And to “DEAREST DEB” (from Dixie) (my nickname for you, girlfriend) and JANET (in Rochester), thank you EVER so much for your comments about Vitamin D when I was feeling blue back in January. Notice the word “was”. I took your advice and upped my D. A year or two ago my nurse practitioner had told me that my D was on the low side of average so I began to take some, but I never thought that I should take MORE during the dark months! I can not thank you enough!! I feel so much better–happy even!

Susan, this current blog is just beautiful–the postcards (so lovely!)–the picture of the bowls and glasses on the linen tea towel (to die for!) –and giving us a glimpse of the back of your book (absolutely heaven!!) You have that touch that gives me “goosebumps”. I find myself saying, “how did she know that’s exactly what I wanted to see??” or “how did she ever dream up that cunning combination of ship on the sea and words around the picture??”

Another thing, do you notice that all of us Girlfriends are starting to have a “history” with each other? Looking at the Emma Bridgewater picture, I thought to myself, “oh, I remember when we were there!” I love it!

Love to you, Susan and Joe, and ALL the great Girlfriends who keep me entertained and comforted! Girlfriends forever!
    Linda

    • sbranch says:

I’m thrilled about the Vitamin D and you … that’s just great Linda!

      • judi says:

So glad you’re feeling more “chipper”. The days are getting longer and soon you will have a “spring fever” day. I remember them well from my wonderful “northern” life:)

        • Janet [in Rochester] says:

Yepper, Linda! I love Loretta Young! I think this is her Star month on Turner Classic Movies… And Ethel Barrymore too! :>)

    • Chris Wells from West TX says:

      Dear Linda,
I was beginning to worry about you! So glad you are here and well. When I lived in Ohio, most of my life, I suffered from SAD. Wish I would have known then, all it took was more D. happy you are back among us. You have been MISSED!
Are you getting any of this storm? We have been extraordinarily warm and dry. Wish I could be part of an old fashion blizzard again.
Keep taking your D and checking on this blog for a shot of happiness!
      Missed you girlfriend.
      Chris

    • Dorothy Ann says:

      * Hi Linda from Lancaster *

Soooo wonderful to see your familiar “post” once again.

It’s delightful, what your wrote at the end of your post to Susan…
” Love to you, Susan and Joe, and all the great Girlfriends who keep me entertained and comforted!”

What a sweet and generous comment, but it doesn’t surprise me! You are a very sweet PG…(Posting Girlfriend). I look forward to what you have to say all the time too.

      * Dorothy Ann on Cougar Mountain, Washington *

  59. Linda from Lancaster Co. PA says:

Oops! It was DEBBIE (near Syracuse) who gave me the Vitamin D advice! I am so sorry, Girlfriend! I so appreciate that you took the time to comment to me way back in January.

And it is Janet in Rochester who loves classic movies just as I do. Did you happen to see Loretta Young in “The Farmer’s Daughter” recently? I loved it, especially the interior of that big mansion!
    Linda

    • sbranch says:

      Darling movie!

    • Pat Mofjeld from St. Paul, Minnesota says:

Linda, my Dr. told me about the Vitamin D, too, and it really does make a difference! Physically AND mentally! We have lots of sunshine during the wintertime here in Minnesota but we would be so covered up due to the cold, it wouldn’t do any good to try to be outside more. Plus there is something about the sun rays being not as strong during the winter, etc. Also, I think the older we get, the less our bodies process it naturally…definitely worth popping those Vitamin D pills! 🙂

    • Debbie P ~ Weedsport, NY says:

I’m glad you’re feeling better, Linda…that’s wonderful! I’m so grateful for girlfriends that shared the good info about Vit D with ME…just paying it forward!
      xoxoDebbie

Thank you so much!!!!

  61. Pam Fortune says:

    Hi Susan
Your blog was interesting for I have never celebrated Valentine’s Day, I like the way girlfriends in America seem to celebrate together whilst in the U.K it seems to be very much couples orientated. Happy anniversary and what a lovely way to celebrate with a breakfast for friends. When I looked at all your photographs it made my mouth water. I am in Gloucestershire in the Forest of Dean staying with my youngest daughter Penny at the moment but my granddaughter and I are making a hasty retreat back to Yorkshire tomorrow as we are predicted to have heavy snow showers on Sunday. Keep warm when your snow arrives and I will try and do the same.

    • sbranch says:

Drive carefully! Surprise someone who doesn’t have a special someone in their life, with a Valentine … I think she would love it.

      • Dawn (Elmhurst, IL) says:

        Hi Susan and Pam,
Last week, when I learned that only couples celebrate Valentine’s Day in Germany, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to share this special celebration of friendship with my dear friends there. So handmade valentines are on the way to Birgit, Sabine, and Iris! What fun to hope that it might be their first valentine ever! One of my very favorite days of the year… a celebration of love and friendship.
Enjoy the snow! Stay safe and warm. We’ll be thinking of you!
        ♡♡Dawn

        • sbranch says:

It’s all love, right … to mom and dads, brothers, schoolmates, best friends, everybody!

          • Pam Fortune says:

Yes that is a lovely idea! I had never thought about Valentines day like that before because I am on my own and have been for the past 33 years. Thank you for that girls.

        • Pam Fortune says:

In that case Dawn I must send my friend Heidi a card, I must make some as soon as I get home. It is a lovely idea, I love it!

  62. Diane from Poulsbo, WA says:

Happy Anniversary Joe and Susan!!! 🙂 You have been together for such a nice, long time now! I loved the picture of the two of you when you were just young whipper-snappers…..so pretty. I wish I could have been there at the breakfast feast to help all of you celebrate after seeing all of the scrumptious foods that you were having on those gorgeous dishes …at that beautiful table! Yum….
I cannot believe that you are going to get hit with another huge storm in the Northeast…unbelievable. Does anyone else but me think that is pretty amazing? I am so glad that you and Joe take it in stride….you always seem to have prepared ahead of time, have a roaring fire, plenty of good things to eat, lots of candles etc….. 🙂
I cannot wait for “our” book!!!! I know I write that every single time you mention it, but it seems so close now. I love hearing how it is coming along.
This was an especially sweet blog …..I am so happy for you and Joe being married for so many years….and I loved how he snuck the cake into the freezer to surprise you…and the roses! How sweet!!! We will be married 20 years in Sept, and we dont usually do a whole lot on the “off” years, but every five years we do something a bit more elaborate….so I completely understand when you wrote that a little romance goes a long way! Happy Anniversary x0x0x0x0.

  63. Sheryl from Chico oo says:

Hi. Let me be thee 500th person to wish you a happy anniversary, belated. I just wanted to write that I appreciated your blog so much. I’m on vacation in AZ and I didn’t bring your cookbooks with me. Shame. However, I read the cheesecake recipe and copied it and it will be what we bring to our Valentine potluck at our clubhouse here.

Keep safe, warm and cozy with your adorable husband. You both are so lucky!

  64. Charlene H. from So. Calif. (S.F.Valley) says:

Dear Susan.,,I usually take time to read all the prior comments and join in the Girlfriend conversations before making my own entry. Just cannot take that time this morning…will return later. I swiftly came to the end of the line to send my hug and my sincere happiness for you and Joe. Make that two hugs. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! I love your couple photograph! Stunning! Handsome! Perfect composition. Love the white and khaki. You two are a beautiful couple, outside and INside. Thank you for sharing your celebration and happiness with us. ♥ ♥ ♥

  65. Annette McD says:

Weddings, Anniversaries, Roses, Lace. It is so wonderful to be part of a pair. Congratulations to you both. May you weather this storm and the all storms to come together. You never fail to choose just the right music for your blogs. For Christmas my 18 year old son bought me a vintage 2-album collection of The Cole Porter Songbook sung by Ella Fitzgerald. I love to listen to it while I cook or clean house it transports me to more innocent times.

  66. Lori from Maine says:

Happy anniversary Susan and Joe! Our 29th is in May. I’m in the midst of baking a “blizzard cake”. We need the necessities when we’re getting 2 feet of snow, right? Cake is on top of the list…with a pot of tea of course. Luckily we have a woodstove, so if and when the power goes out, we’ll stay warm and be able to do a bit of cooking. Hope you do okay down there!
    xoxo from SW Hbr., Maine

    • sbranch says:

      So far so good!

    • Dorothy Ann says:

      * Hi Lori from Maine *

I’m online now…I just finished reading Susan’s new Post, jotted a reply to her and saw your post too.

I also checked my “new mail” section on the computer, and found your
e-mail to me. Hi to you! I’ll reply this weekend, for sure. Now, you be safe and warm from the storm and enjoy that “blizzard cake”.
      Save me a slice!
      * Love from, Dorothy Ann on Cougar Mountain, Washington*

  67. Pat Mofjeld from St. Paul, Minnesota says:

I’m getting kind of envious of you having the big storm. Our predicted “major storm” coming Sat. night through Monday is fizzling out–now freezing rain, sleet, slush, and wet snow… messy and NOT pretty, and probably hard on the trees…

  68. Rachel says:

OOh Willard is coming out for MY anniversary 🙂
A VERY Happy Anniversary to you and Joe! Quiet anniversaries can be quite lovely too.
I think you are taking too much snow up there, if those getting 2 feet shared one of the feet, then we could have some too… just enough for sledging 😉 I hope you stay safe and warm during the snow, I shall just live vicariously through you!
And squeeeeeeeeee on the book… exciting!

  69. Mary Ellen Dadds says:

    Dear Susan.
I came across your wonderful calender while I was Christmas Shopping.
I dont beieve I knew anything about you until then.
I think you are great and I love your Calender.
So then I looked you up on the internet and I found your Blog.
Of course I love that too.
I use to draw alot when I was a child,Somewhere along life,I lost it.I have been sewing knitting and other needle like hobbies.
I hope one day I can find my drawing abilities again.
All That said I was looking thru your blog and on your post about Banana fritters I noticed your lovely large mixing bowl, with the blue stripe on it.
May I ask you how you got that?Is it somthing you can still purchase,or was it something from your family?
Thanks so Much for sharing all these beautiful things about your self with us.

  70. Winnie Nielsen says:

Congratulations Susan to you and Joe!!! I love that sweet photo of the two of you as youngsters!! What a beautiful couple you make. Indeed , the storm prediction for your area sounds quite fierce!! Glad that you have the essentials for hunkering down for a few days and surviving any power outages. Are the winds stronger out on the island ??

Oh the excitement of hearing your updates on the book’s completion! It is going to be WONDERFUL!

Hope you all survive the storm without too much disruption. Maybe send us photos afterwards? I cannot imagine what a blizzard is like.

    Stay warm!

    • sbranch says:

I want to send photos, but as the day goes by, I think all the really good stuff won’t happen until after dark! I’m watching though!

  71. Jeannette W. says:

Happy Anniversary!! And thank you for providing a little sunshine on this rainy day in Central California:)

  72. Donna says:

Happy Anniversary first of all! Your post has put me in such a romantic mood! We are in Lunenburg, MA, up near the NH border, and have hunkered down to enjoy the storm. Wood is piled by the door, generator is tuned up, broccoli cheddar soup is on the stove and the makings for chicken pot pie are on the counter. There may be chocolate chip cookies in my future, too. What is it about snowstorms that make us so ambitious about cooking comfort food and cuddling under afghans? L O V E it! Hope your weekend is cozy and that your drama is provided only by the view and the kitties! Stay safe.

    Donna

  73. Happy Anniversary you two adorable Valentines!

    Big Hugs,
    Susan and Bentley

  74. Jan says:

    Susan,
Woke up here to about five inches of snow and blowing winds. Suppose to subside by noon today. So enjoyed your review of last years anniversary. The fireplace was a great addition. We really need to burn ours more often. That coconut cake sounds wonderful. What a thoughtful hubby. Stay inside where it’s warm and have a great weekend!
    Jan

  75. Susan ( an Ohio gal in SoCal ) says:

A very happy anniversary to you two! Batten down the hatches and enjoy the blizzard – what else can you do?

  76. Happy, happy anniversary! What a great time to have it, too. It sounds like you’ll be stuck inside by the fire for a few days!

And, thanks for the continued inspiration. Every visit to your blog makes me want to create!

from Mary S. in Fresno, CA

  78. Carol Lichwala says:

Happy, Happy Anniversary to you and Joe, and many many more. I love that fireplace, I can almost feel the heat from it.
I am in western Mass and it’s snowing here, and has been all day. Everyone is snug in their apartments and we are watching the snow from our windows.
We will probably lose power too. I tell everyone to go to bed with a flashlight and a portable radio, we will lose power during the night for sure.
What a nice picture of you and Joe, he is very handsome and you are adorable.

  79. Barbara Thomas says:

Gosh, I’m going to pretend I was invited to your party, my name is on the place card! I love all your glasses, especially the gold edged birds in pink. You have such a great eye for putting things together!
I think I have every piece of your ” A Proper Tea”. The tea set sits on the cookie plate (like a platter) with the sugar and creamer in the middle of my Strawberry Fair Johnson Brothers dishes on my hutch. Why don’t we see more of these displayed in your house?

Now go make a snow angel!
    Kind regards, Barbara

  80. Kate says:

I know this is going to sound crazy, but I envy you northeasterners your coming blizzard. I’ve been saying to my husband all winter that I wish we would have one really huge snow so that everyone would have to stay inside. Sounds like heaven to me, but I guess if you have to get out it wouldn’t be so nice. Anyway, Congratulations on 26 years of marriage. And wishing you at least another 26 more. God bless and keep you all safe there on Martha’s Vineyard.

    • sbranch says:

You are right, as long as we can stay inside, a blizzard is an amazingly beautiful and exciting and thrilling really, thing to see.

  81. Debbie says:

Happy Anniversary! Hope you enjoy your snow days and that you stay safe & warm by your fire. I have to admit that I kind of wish I was back east…I miss the thrill of a big nor’easter!

  82. Terri says:

I like your squiggly page almost as much as your finished ones. It has its own character and charm.
We’re even getting a light dusting of snow out here California-land, today (we’re near the mountains, so sometimes we get a little taste of what they’re getting – but thankfully, not the whole helping!). From the looks of things, I think that groundhog may have been slightly off this year.
Happy anniversary to you and your guy! Glad you’re surrounded by such wonderful warmth.

  83. Susan,
Happy 26th Anniversary. My husband and I have been married 34 yrs. I was 20 and he was 21 when we married. I love him more now than the day we married. Best wishes for your future health and happiness and I hope you are not hit too hard by the blizzard. We are in Indiana and were we hit by a big one 1978, the yr we married. I will never forget that.

    God Bless,
    Pamela

  84. Laure says:

Susan, how happy it makes me every time you share a post about you and Joe — two people so made for each other, I can’t help but smile! Thanks for sharing!

  85. Jackie P says:

Happy Anniversary! Be safe and warm during the storm. Am home in front of the fire, hooking my rug, drinking tea, looking at two sleeping dogs on the sofa. The falling snow is beautiful. Heaven!

  86. Kathy Jones says:

Happy Anniversary (a day late) Stay safe and warm, and cozy 🙂 Kathy

  87. Barb, EW ...CT says:

Happy Anniversary Sue & Joe! I really enjoyed this post. I ususally try to reply right away but its been such a hectic week. My husband Jeff was on his way home from work the other night when he was hit from behind. His Jeep was sent
into guardrails and then spun around and right into a telephone pole. The good news is he is fine…..and I and he are so Grateful. The Jeep is a total loss but the main thing is my husband is Fine so that is all that matters. I made him one of his favorite meals for dinner last night…..Pork Chops and I marinated them all day in roasted garlic marinade with one of his all time favortie vegetables and some mashed potatoes. Your recipes on here look scrumptious.

Here in CT we have a few inches of snow thus far and winds have picked up considerably. Please stay safe Susan and Joe. Hugs & Smiles:) Barb

  88. Nancy B says:

Hi, Susan. This storm reminds me of the two years Hubby and I spent in Chicago during the 60’s. I enjoyed the snow, but two winters was enough for him. We have been back in California since 1966. I just spoke with our daughter to see if she was all hunkered down for the storm and she said she still had enough supplies left from Sandy. She will send pictures tomorrow so we can see what it’s like where she is. (Cambridge)……I especially want to say Happy Anniversary to you and Joe, and I hope you have many more. We celebrated 54 last August. My guy is pretty wonderful, too.

    Warmest wishes,
    Nancy (from Bakersfield)

  89. Kristin says:

I love the photo of the house and yard covered in all that snow. I’ve NEVER in my life seen even an inch of snow. Around here, we’re lucky if it gets cold at all.

I can’t wait to see even more photos of your historic blizzard! That does sound a lot more exciting than 76 degrees and sunny.

    Kristin

  90. Mary Cunningham says:

Happy Anniversary! Keep safe and snuggle in during your historic blizzard….we here in Indiana were snowed in during Christmas….enjoyed it, no power loss here! I think you should line the cover of “our” book with your test/doodle paper…..DaVinci probably had doodle pages and I think it would be awesome to see them….a genius doodles you know! And I liked them…..I so enjoy your blog and all you share with us….Happy Valentine’s Day in advance…..Mary ( Barefoot Sparkler )

Yours is a cozy place methinks when “The weather outside is frightful . . .” Hope you have a generator if things get ugly — powerwise that is. I’d love to see a few flakes in these parts, but all we are getting here this winter is freezing fog. I’ll be looking forward to more snow pictures on your most welcome and much appreciated blog postings. I like to think about you and your pets toasting in front of the fire so delightful 🙂 . Hope the outside critters get through the storm okay. In fact hope everyone survives this New England storm with minimal stress and strain.

Happy Anniversary to you and Joe!! You are a very cute couple!
I have a very unique love story. I met my husband when I was 41 years old, (I always was a late bloomer!)He moved into the house next door with his sister, I was living with my sister. He would come outside each evening to walk his dog,we would sit on the porch swing and talk for hours. Sounds old fashioned, this was in LA in the 90’s!! After three months we fell in love, got engaged, and married seven months later. We’ve been happily married for almost 16 years. It was the first marriage for both of us. He is a prince of a guy, I am so lucky. It’s never too late to have your dreams come true!
Stay safe and warm in the storm.

  93. Belated anniversary wishes to you and Joe…I agree with the others who note what a clearly perfect couple you are (and love the early pic).
Thanks for all your charming and heartwarming posts….you have a fantastic take on life and how to savor every moment of it.
Best wishes for optimal storm appreciation and survival!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! My husband and I will celebrate our 45th in July – I was 17 and he was 20 – just babes. We had our first daughter a year later and a year after that my mother passed away. She left behind my 4 younger siblings so at 19 and 22 we were the parents of 5 children. Not much time for romance and now we have 3 grandsons who never want to go home!!!

I haven’t had a good blizzard since we left Rhode Island – how wonderful they were in terms of huddling down and listening to the wind blow and watching the snow swirl all around. I’m going to try those orange chocolate cakes – they look yummy! Just cool here in Indiana – no snow in sight. Can’t wait for the book – YIKES!!

The best to you and Joe on your 26th! We will celebrate 42 years in March. Sometimes it is mind boggling to think of all those years together but they are filled with happy memories, two grown sons, two lovely wives for them and now 4 grandkids. Guess they were good years – right! Very chilly in So Cal today, down to 39 – yikes – we can’t take it. But I love the rain too. Your snow photos are gorgeous, so pristine and serene. Love them all. Keep Joe and the kitties warm and safe tonight. Watching CNN right now this evening, looks like it will be huge out there – stay inside. I printed out 4 of our heart bookmarks for friends and myself – love it. Thanks so much, and for your blog.
Always know I will find a bit of daily inspiration and a cozy thought or two!

I am one of those gals that comments before I read the others and just noticed the Vitamin D comments. My doctor told me to take some as it would give me more energy and she was absolutely right. I have fibromyalgia along with other maladies and I’m always exhausted, but the Vitamin D really made me feel better! I’m also big on Vitamin C and taking Airborne the minute I feel a cold coming on. Thanks for the confirmation of the benefits of the Vitamin D. Fun, inspiration and education on Susan’s blog

Watching the news from out here on the west coast and thinking of you. We don’t get much snow here, just lots of rain. Looking forward to pictures……and mostly word that you are all safe. ‘Warm’ wishes.

Keeping all of you in the North East, Mid West and High Plains in my thoughts and prayers, seems all of you may be getting hit with extra snow in the next few days..stay safe and warm and dry!

How romantic! I love romance. Happy Anniversary to you and your honey!

The snow has already arrived here in New York and the electricity has already gone out once. Thankfully, my town was great at getting it repaired quickly. I just hope it doesn’t happen overnight. There are great movies on TCM tonight I want to watch.

I’m looking forward to working on that snowman tomorrow morning with the girls and hubby. Last year, we searched everywhere for a real black top hat for our snowman and thought we wouldn’t have an opportunity to use it, here’s our chance!

Stay warm and safe. Have a wonderful and blessed weekend.
