Turkey dinner anyone? Yummy! Our “free range” turkeys are very calm, considering the date and all, milling around our backyard. 
That’s because they know they’re safe, culinarily unattractive with nothing to worry about. Not like these crazy babies that came running to see us a couple of years back when we pulled over to take pictures of them.
Maybe you remember them? So cute! Our wild Island turkeys are not grain fed like these cuties (except of course at our house, where they get bird food), they are mosquito and fly fed, and look pretty much inedible to me. Whenever I see these guys up there ↑ I always think maybe we will have salmon for Thanksgiving! You can’t imagine how sweet they were, and curious about us.
I just finished writing a brand new Willard (this photo is from the last one) . . . I have so many fun surprises for you! A preview of how the new book is coming along and MUCH more! It should start going out next Tuesday, so watch your mail box ~ it usually takes about four days for them all to go. Hope you love it!♥
We have been sleeping so well. And this is why ~ the sheets! They are so cozy and crisp because we’ve gotten into the habit of drying them on the line.’Course that 
will stop when it starts freezing out there, but it’s been HEAVEN, a noticeable difference, they way they feel and smell, even inspires conversation between Joe and I when we’re on our walk, saying how delicious they are. If you can do it, if it’s not already snowing on you, and there are no rules against clothes drying on your line, try it!
And while I was out there I had to take a picture of the ground. So pretty under the maple tree ~ SO gorgeous despite dastardly worm-bites from killer worms we’ve managed to attract here on the Island. But we are going to get rough with them this year and put some oil on our tree trunks where they lay their eggs to keep them from ever hatching. Still pretty, if a bit gnawed.
I gathered the sheets and took them in, and this was waiting in the window at the back kitchen door.So lucky! ♥♥♥
I had to get the sheets in before it started raining . . . 
which it did, all day yesterday. It was perfect Willard-writing weather, tires slapping the street outside my window, raindrops pattering on the glass, while I thought about what would be the perfect new Giveaway to celebrate this Willard (a surprise!) ~ it was a delightful rainstorm which inspired us to light the first fire of the season last night.
We’re having people to dinner tonight (which is why this is going to be a short post ~ I have to go cook!) I’ve been looking at some of my dinner-party table settings . . . and starting to think about Thanksgiving, which always makes me think about my grandma.♥

The walk you and Joe take everyday looks Beautiful!! My husband, myself and our dog Gus take a 5:00 a.m. walk 365 days of the year. A lot of the year we have our flashlights. See deer(sometime resting) hear owls depending what time of year and coyotes that sound like they’re going to charge us but we never see them. Also beautiful stars and the moon. We have wonderful walks!!

Susan, just read the latest Nov. Willard and loved it as usual. I’ve read your blog for many years now and so look forward to it. Check for it everyday and very sad when it’s late, but I do understand. I Love to see wash hanging on the line and used to hang mine until I started to get dizzy when I was looking up. My Mother always hung her wash out even in cold weather and it would get stiff as a board.
Love the type of writing you do and discovered Gladys Tabor in the 60’s when I read Woman’s Circle magazine. I wrote to the ladys who had books to sell and have almost all of hers. Also bought her newest ones. I like to read Faith Baldwin,Tasha Tudor. Love the artist Mary Engelbriet also. I do so love art and heartful homey writers.
Looking forward to reading your work for many more years. I’m 76.

I had a storage space that was sold before the 30 days was up to pay. The only thing I was upset about was the crate with all my favorite cookbooks in it. All of yours and the ones my mom gave me. I was devistated. My mom is gone and so were her recipes.
Low and behold, 10 years later as we are moving I opened a box marked “books”. And there are all my cookbooks. I cried. A lot. I was so happy to have my moms hand written recipes and books. And your books. I love your books. And I’ve made so many of your recipes.
So now I have all but the 2 new ones. I would love to win them.

I am in the middle of A Fine Romance (a birthday gift to myself) – today is Friday and I now have the weekend ahead to read again… it has been and is just one big HUG! When you were in England, I was in Tuscany fulfilling my life long dream with my fine romance called Steve. We got married the year after in 2013. I know he has been sneaking and reading your book while I am at work (he is retired), I know this because yesterday he said to me that ‘perhaps a couple of days on an ocean liner wouldn’t be too bad’ – this has always been his absolute ‘no no’. My middle daughter has announced a new babe on the way and so we have had to postpone our trip to England to April 2017 this will be my first time (Steve is from there) and your book has inspired me to make special time for footpath walking that we would otherwise not have done. I just wanted to tell you about MY “secret” language…it is called egg talk and the rules are the same as Ark and Arfy, just insert the word egg after the first letter and between syllables. Since their aren’t as many words that start with an “e” you don’t run into the same words that start with F troubles ;o) My Jr. High friends and I used to talk on the phone like this so our families couldn’t understand all our devious plans. Received A FINE ROMANCE as a gift while recovering from surgery. After every page I thought, “I love this book”. I have since given it as gifts to friends so they can share the experience-my copy is too precious and I am afraid someone will “forget’ to return it to me-lol!
I just got a new kitten and named him Dickens and then read the quote in Willard by Charles Dickens, “What greater gift than the love of a cat”.

I cant believe it, I started crying when I saw the china on the table….it was my grandmothers table, which isnt so strange until you realise that she had it on her table in the 60’s and in Cardiff, S wales, UK!!!!
She died many years ago and I dont know what happened to her china other than a saucer that I begged my mother to let me have as that pattern is one of my favourites and would conjure up my “Nanna” whenever I saw it. Unfortunately many moves over the past years, the final one to Seattle in 2001 made my saucer disappear in a box one day never to be seen again, so again it was wonderful to see the pattern, enjoy the memories and know that in some small way my grandmothers spirit lives on in you’re house!!!! Hope that doesnt spook you out, but if you ever hear a little welsh voice singing that old song,,”If I can help somebody,,,,”….Its her!

I just finished reading your latest book and I must say, I really related to it. I also grew up in that time era. I couldn’t believe how you tapped into that time perIod. You grew up in the west coast and I in the east coast but so remarkable the same. I also went thru a romance and marriage and then a devastating divorce. As you, I recovered and met my true love! I went on to have two daughters. My youngest admires you so and for her birthday, her husband took her to Martha’s Vineyard to meet you when you had started your book tour for “A Fine Romance”. I hope also to meet you some day. Continue doing what you are doing. It gives so much pleasure to everyone who reads and enjoys your books and art work!

Hope I can make it to you book tour. I work 45 minutes from home and barely have time to read your blog, so I still need to contact Aaron’s books, an independent bookstore in Lititz, PA. Lititz was Voted the coolest small town in America and is the home of the famous Wilbur bud which is like a Hershey kiss, but with extra chocolate These are kept mostly secret. There is a wonderful Inn to stay at there as well.

I learned a simple trick when you are setting the table as to which side the silverware goes on. The knife and spoon go on the right b/c the knife and spoon have 5 letters as does the word “right”.
