It’s Monday! Why didn’t anyone tell me?

Oh my!  MUSICA

So, guess what Joe just told me?  It’s Monday! That probably doesn’t come to a surprise to you, but . . .

IMG_5674

I coulda’ sworn it was Sunday!  Note: View from kitchen window right now, Squirrel hanging from bird feeder!

kitchen in the blizzard

I missed Downton last night!  I just found this out, I was gearing up to see it tonight, and I’m now in a bit of a dither.  Joe saw it, he said nothing monumental happened, that he thought Julian was “stalling.”

IMG_5666

And look, we are in the middle of a blizzard right this minute!  Joe is outside  filling the bird feeders and digging us a tunnel to the liquor store.

kitchen in the blizzard

We have the best view from our kitchen window, cold on the outside, warm and cozy inside. It’s really a heavenly day!  Wind is blowing!  White flakes blurring the house across the street, big red snow plows going up and down the roads.

IMG_5664

Jack is fascinated by the wildlife around the bird feeders. “Eyes on the prize,” that’s what he is thinking. Prize being fresh squirrel meat. Which he will never have in this lifetime.

IMG_5611

And darling Girl Kitty only worries about where her next meal is coming from. After fifteen years of togetherness, she is still never quite sure.

IMG_5665

Birds are well taken care of. We have the fattest fluffiest coldest birds in the world right now.

Merry In The Winter

And here is the reason I lost track of time . . . I’ve been on a roll, as you know, trying to finish Martha’s Vineyard Isle of Dreams (which is listed on Amazon as #1 New Release!). Very exciting! And Look!

IMG_5630

Yesterday, which was supposed to be Saturday, so that today would be Sunday, so I would get to watch Downton tonight . . .

IMG_5637

I did this!

IMG_5636

I painted these words on the last page of the book!!!!  Aren’t they beautiful??

IMG_4468

ohhappyday

I must have gone delirious after this because, that was it. I jumped around joyfully for a while, it’s really hard to believe after so many months!  But then I re-introduced myself to the real life things like folding clothes and eating dinner and talking and talking with my darling man about our new dream of going to Scotland in the fall. I still have a ton to do on the book. All the corrections, and I have to design the back cover and the end papers and things like that! But it’s so close! happiness

fireAnd now, I’ll have you know, because of this wonderful fire Joe made, I am going to the kitchen to make grilled cheese sandwiches, which I will mash with the spatula to make them extra crispy, like this:

grilled cheese sandwich

and we will take our sandwiches to the sofa and cozy down in the storm with the throws that my grandma knit and WATCH Downton (yes Joe’s going to watch it again!), luxuriously maybe even twice, con kitty, just forgetting about the world, praying that the electricity doesn’t go out. But if it does, too bad, I will just have to take a nap. Because it’s WILD out there. Someone said we should expect 18″!  I am all for it!

IMG_2133

Jack doesn’t care, he just waits patiently on the sofa.  Anyway,  I am so SORRY Girlfriends, that I messed up.  You can go ahead and leave comments about Downton, because I’m going to close the computer, and go watch it right now, and I won’t read anything you say until I’m done, so YOU can basically write the Blog this time! 🙂 And I’ll come back and comment on your comments!  A job for everybody! Love you Girlfriends! Stay warm! XOXO

    Dear Susan,
Oh my, the picture of dearest Girl Kitty made my heart jump! What a darling girl she is. I love Jack too, but we don’t get to see Kitty that often, so I wanted to give her a special mention!
I’m sorry you missed a day, BUT think of it as a blessing, it’ll be sunday a day sooner, and you’ll get to watch DA yet again!
I LOVE your ” The End” drawing, its gorgeous! And you’re making me hungry for a grilled cheese sandwich, which I cannot have because its almost bed-time here..!
I loved your post of last week too, and posted a comment (2x) but things went funny in internet world, and they disappeared…I wanted to say how much I liked the pictures of Stourhead and how much we’re (hubby and myself) are looking forward to the pic-nic in September!
Thanks for a lovely post, stay warm and cosy and enjoy DA with quilts and kitties, and Joe of course!
    Best wishes
    Nicoline

    Hi Susan,
I hope you’re enjoying this lovely snowy day. I spent most of the morning letting the pups out and then in and then out and in again….they love the snow! I was looking forward to your Downton recap…oops, my mom did the same thing! I have it recorded and invited her to stop by and watch it anytime this week. You’re welcome to come by too. I’m only in RI, so short trip. I’ll put the kettle on 🙂

  3. Becky says:

Favorite phrase….”Joe is outside digging us a tunnel to the liquor store.” Ha! Love it.That is a man you definitely want to hang onto and he has his priorities straight. I too thought this episode was a little bit of a yawner. Stalling is a nice term for what took place. They really do need to put closure on some of these story lines as I am getting a little testy with Mr. Carson, Mary, and Daisy. Anyway, so happy, happy, happy that you were able to paint “the end.” Hmmmm, crunchy grilled cheese with tomato soup sounds like lunch for me! Thanks for the inspiration.

  4. Sharon in So. Calif. says:

Boo Hoo, my electric DID go out, right in the middle of Downton!! We are having major winds here in So. Calif.. Curses! I guess I forgot to say Bad Harvest!! Love your winterly world, just beautiful and makes your house so cozy. Love Girls close up and as always that handsome devil, Jack! Stay cozy. xoxo P.S. just wanted to let you know, I did a comment on your last blog but I think it was one that got lost…..

    • Chris Wells From Knickerbocker, W. TX says:

Oh no! Right in the middle of Downton?! I have Downton recorded! Just come on over and watch it! 🙂

      • Sharon in So. Calif. says:

LOL! Thanks Chris for the offer but I don’t think I could make it to your neck of the woods, but wish I could. ♥♥♥

  5. Susan says:

I think that Julian was giving us a “calmer” episode after the excitement (and blood! ew) of last week. Still, a lot happened. The plot moved along, and there were some nice moments. Glad you will watch now, and I can’t wait to read what you think.

Congratulations on those glorious words “The End” !! Well done, you!

        • sbranch says:

The come in the opposite way, the first comments go to the bottom and the later ones are the first I see, so if I don’t get to the bottom, more new ones come onto the top, and that’s the problem in a nutshell! 🙂

      • sbranch says:

        Heartbreaking. SO lonely!

    • sbranch says:

Yeah, I keep telling Tom to stay out of it!!

  7. Betsy in Pennsylvania says:

Don’t forget to come back and give us your thoughts on Downton! It wouldn’t be a good discussion without you! xoxoxoxo

  8. chris consentino says:

oh, my goodness!! wow. well, last week I got caught up when watching the previous week’s episode, JUST before the current one….sooo, I do know that time, itself, is a trickster. mmm. i’m in a mouthwatering dither and daze, due to the grilled-cheese sandwich. mmmm. can I come over?? well, dearest Susan….snuggle in, relax, munch away….enjoy that glorious fire…and, enjoy your own, private watching of dear downton. also, enjoy the gorgeous snow!!!! stay warm, cozy and safe. looking forward to your comments-on-the-comments!! what fun!! xo

  9. Elaine in Toronto says:

Love your rendition of “The End” – so pretty! Your house looks beautiful in the snow. And you and Joe and the kitties are having a snow day. And Downton Abbey. And your book is almost finished. And grilled cheese sandwiches. So much to be thankful for. Enjoy! Hugs.

  10. Sandylen says:

I didn’t think it was stalled at all. I thought it had a lot of interesting moments. Like how the residents got stumped with all the questions from the sightseerers and the big scene between Cora and the Dowager. Yes Daisy is so jealous. Mr Carson is so particular. I plan to watch it again too

  11. Chris Wells From Knickerbocker, W. TX says:

I wondered where you were?! I can’t believe you missed it!? I have already watched it twice. The second time this morning, making me just a little late for work!! Oh yes…it’s Monday and I have to go to work!
I found it was a depressing episode. All the talk about the families and the big estates having to change, laying off staff, downsizing. And then the charity tour through Downton….I am yelling WIPE YOUR FEET!!!!!! Behave, act respectable….which they did. The scene with the little boy showing up in Robert’s bedroom was charming.
Enjoy your blizzard. I hope Joe made it to the liquor store. Firewood, books and wine should be all you need! Maybe a little chocolate. Hug those kitty’s. That sweet Girl is really something special.
From where it is really, really warm!
    Chris

    • Chris Wells From Knickerbocker, W. TX says:

Oh I forgot to say. I think our dream of Mary and Tom is over. Not looking good for them!

    • Susan Morgon ( an Ohio gal in SoCal ) says:

I’ve been getting the feeling of things winding down. Maybe it’s just because I know the end is coming. We can see all the loose ends being tied. Plus, we are seeing it played out that the grand estate lifestyle saw its end too. It makes me wonder how families like the Crawleys handled the change.

  12. Anne says:

Hi Susan! I think we’re getting your snowstorm here in PA in a day or so. I’m with you – can’t wait! I’m going to drink chamomile tea by the fire and watch the flakes 😊 I’m sure you’ve already heard but I was just reading about Beatrix Potter’s long lost unfinished manuscript “Kitty in Boots” and thought of you. It’s about a kitty with a double life! Don’t you just love it?! Congrats on finishing your latest! Can’t wait for it! xoxoxo

  13. Marilyn H says:

Well I hope you got through the show uninterrupted. No black outs. Old Lady Grantham put on a wonderful mad act. I loved it. She is so good in her role. I really don’t understand Daisy not wanting Mr Mason to have any thing to do with Mrs Patmore. She seems jealous. Lord Grantham is quite charming in speaking and being nonchalant with the wandering little boy. And Barrow made me quite sad for him at the end. Why does he get treated so ? I’m a newbie. Sorry I haven’t seen the series from the beginning. There’s a lot I don’t know. Like the mystery of Marigold. What is going on there ? Anyway love your photos especially Little Girl. What a sweet cat face she has. Enjoy your snow storm which I always do as long as the electricity still works. However here in far Northern CA we haven’t had a snow storm for eons, or rain til this season. It is trying to get back to normal but today sunny and in the 70,s. Please winter don’t leave us yet altho spring is second to fall for my favorite season. Ok I’m off. Tootle Loo.

    • sbranch says:

Marigold is Edith’s own child she had out of wedlock with her boyfriend that went off to Germany and disappeared, presumed dead, and seriously, we think he is dead (that’s where she got that wonderful flat in London, he left it to her, also the Magazine). She went away to give birth, the family didn’t know except for her LOVELY aunt Rosamund, who helped her. Now her parents know, but Mary doesn’t! Cue the mystery music!

    • Kat from Jersey says:

Marilyn, I recommend watching from the beginning! Thomas Barrow has a history of being mostly horrible and plotting against his co-workers; however, he has many ‘hidden depths’ and can be nice when he wants. He’s a gay man in that era, which has its own set of horrible issues. So basically, his past behavior is now coming back to bite him!

      • Marilyn H says:

Thank you Kat. Actually I had thought of renting from the beginning and watching the whole series however time consuming.

  14. Judy Adair says:

One of my favorite characters, Barrow, is teetering on becoming a tragedy. I certainly hope not. I want happy endings for everyone and his story line has taken a turn for the worse this season. Am I too hopeful for all to find a hope for a bright future?
I am beginning to dislike Daisy’s attitude and jealous turn. How can she be jealous of Mrs. Patmore, with whom she has worked with so long?
Can’t wait to hear your take on this episode.

  15. Kendra says:

So much to say I don’t know where to begin. Last nights Downton was a very good episode, but nothing monumental happened. I fear for Barrow. He may be depressed about his life and future which could lead to his demise. Perhaps one of the Crawley women might get married and set up their own house and need a butler of their own. Or when Mosley goes to work at the schoolhouse Barrow can take over his old position saving poor Mr. Barrow. There … then most of Barrows worries will be set at bay.
Mr. Carson’s treatment of his new wife is very concerning to me. However I don’t think ” Mrs. Carson” will stay quite about it to much longer.
Why is Julian stringing us along so slowly with so much more story to tell and so little time to tell it ?
I keep watching, looking for any emotion on Lady Mary’s face that will reveil that she is harboring romantic feelings for Tom, but I have yet to see it. What are you ladies seeing that I’m not? Help!!!

    • sbranch says:

I’m not seeing it either. I’m just hoping she surprises herself. But instead, she is getting in deeper with the tall guy.

  16. Debbie Noyola says:

I just finished making my family a banana cream pie. Your banana cream pie to be exact. The banana cream pie on page 127 of “Heart of the Home”. My son surprised me with it last week. I love it. The illustrations are darling & the recipes are very tempting. I love a good banana cream pie & this one is delicious. The coconut on top really adds to the goodness.
I just paused to read your blog on how you learned to paint. Funny thing, you mention starting out loving to cook & how you would have dinner parties & make banana cream pie for your guests. I want all your cookbooks! I’m thrilled to at least have this one. I looked for it online & found one that was a second printing. I showed my son & asked him to order it for me. He did & then the lady contacted him & refunded him because she couldn’t find it. I was sad, but life goes on. Then, unbeknownst to me she contacted him to say she had found it in her personal collection. She said she never really used it & would love for someone to have it who would use it. He told her it was going to surprise his mom who wanted it & loves to cook. She even gave him a dollar off the total for the inconvenience. I love it. Did I mention that yet? Next up is the cheesecake. Yum.
P.S. I also love jars. I save my Bonne Maman jam jars. They have a lovely red checked lid & there are 10 sides to the glass. I’m collecting a bunch to use for tea bags & I’ll make a wooden shelf to hold them.

    • sbranch says:

Ohhh, you are going to love that cheesecake! And one of these days, you will love the Pumpkin Cheesecake that is in my Autumn Book! YUM! This year is the 30th anniversary of Heart of the Home . . . and to celebrate I am going to paint 16 new pages and recipes for it and maybe even an updated cover and republish it in June or July! And this time, it will have a ribbon like so many of the others do!

  17. Mary S. says:

OH, my goodness!!! I wondered what had happened to you!! I eagerly came to your blog this morning, anticipating your re-cap of Downton and… nothing!! I KNEW there must be a good reason! And it is actually a very funny reason! LOL!!! So now we still have it to look forward to! 😀
“And darling Girl Kitty only worries about where her next meal is coming from. After fifteen years of togetherness, she is still never quite sure.” – Hilarious!!!! And so typical of cats!!!
Soooo happy to see all your snow! It’s Spring already in Fresno, CA. Blah! I love Spring, but an early one usually means an early, longer summer, which I don’t like AT ALL. But I am very thankful for the rain we have received this year!!!
Love xoxo from Mary S. in Fresno, CA

  18. Conchita says:

Congratulations Susan, woot, I can’t wait to add this one to my growing collection. Soon, very soon! 😉

  19. Darlene Messina says:

    Hi Susan,
Joe is right. Not much action or character development on Downton this week. A disappointment really since there are so few episodes left to marry Mary and Edith off and for Anna and Bates to have their baby. Carson was quite annoying finding fault with everything Mrs. Hughes did. I would have a word with him if I was her.
It was speculated that Thomas is propositioning the groomsman who can’t read even though he was only tutoring him. At the end, Thomas was outside crying. Made me hurt for him although he’s made his bed so to speak. Hoping next week makes much more progress. Violet was hilarious when she found out Cora has been asked to replace her as president of the local hospital.
    Happy watching!!

  20. Cynthia Avalos says:

    Susan,
The Super Bowl was on and was causing a lot of distress in this NC home, so I didn’t see it either! I think we have it on DVR, so will try to watch tonight!

  21. Kay Bennett says:

    Hi Susan,

Not surprised you missed Downton with all that you are doing. So glad, though, that you recorded it and can watch it. I thought it was interesting. Loved how Maggie Smith gets so upset at everyone. She is a treasure. It seems to me that everyone is looking to their future and making plans beyond Downton. (sadly for us) Tom and Mary do spend a lot of time together. 🙂 I felt sorry for Barrow as he is trying to do the right thing for a change. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the latest episode.
Stay warm, wish we could send you our 80 degree weather here in CA.

  22. Sarah Maldonado says:

I DVR’d it to watch today but haven’t seen it yet so laughed when I started to read your blog and wondered if I should because of spoilers! Not a problem! I spent the weekend with girlfriends at a nearby B&B. We stayed up until 3:30 talking and playing Rummikub, eating cake, drinking sparkling wine, laughing like teenagers yet we’re all retired teachers. So much fun! I gave them each a copy of your “Sweets to the Sweet” book because they are all dessert fiends or friends, that is! We tried to imagine what we’ll do without Downton. Glad we have your new book to anticipate!! That should help. 🙂

  23. Ann says:

Well I agree with Joe on the stalling. I want something to happen! Worried about Mr Carson and Mrs Hughes. He doesn’t seem to be able to adapt to married life. I want to slap Daisy and hug Thomas. Wonder if they will jump ahead in time? I want to see Mr Bates and his baby!

  24. carol neider says:

Susan, I love your spunky spirit….it’s contagious. Already preregistered for the new book…promise you’ll take a few deep breaths! Carol Neider

  25. Snow is so pretty but aren’t you glad when it stops and all melts away. My snowdrops have been up and about to pop their little blossoms open any day now—maybe today since it’s sunny and warm here on the west (wet) coast.

Still, grilled cheese sandwiches seem like a very good idea. Thanks for that one, Susan.

  26. Catherine says:

What beautiful snow! We are having a few flurries right now, but the wind is howling. I just finished watching Downton this morning and it looks like some major changes are about to happen this season. I do wish Daisy would stop being so childish. Enjoy!

  27. Ann Jane Koerber says:

Oh my! I cannot possibly comment on Downton until you,’ve seen it…..because I always have to watch it twice – I miss a lot of dialogue the first time and your blog kind of fills me in. We’ve been in Florida with not so nice weather (I’m not complaining!) and I miss my ole homestead! So seeing yours warms my heart and soothes my soul………home sweet home – there is no place like home! Cannot wait for your book, Susan!

  28. KarenP. (Wisconsin) says:

I can see how you could miss that it was Sunday since you are so focused on our book. “The End” is beautiful! I, along with everyone else, cannot WAIT to have it in hand! Downton, as usual, did not fail to impress last night. I think that Tom is tagging along everywhere seemingly playing Cupid only to keep an eye on Mary and see if things are “budding” with the “race car driver!” Carson needs a few lessons on how to be a husband and not the head butler! Oh my! Poor Mrs. Hughes/Carson! I cringe now every time he opens his mouth! My Hart is breaking for Tom. He is not being treated very nicely. Mary and Edith’S sassy back-and-forth digs made me wish they could get along and be happy for one another. I do like Edith and Bernie together! Daisy needs to chill a bit about Mrs. Patmore….jealousy over losing her Mr. Mason, I suppose, is really affecting their once close relationship. So much to comment on. Will see what you and others say. xo

  29. Cindy Stierhoff says:

Joe is right, it was a ho hum episode last night except for The Dowager and her heated exchange with poor Cora, they did make Cora the President of the hospital and The Dowager was in a total “pinch” over it. We could feel the fumes through the TV set. I also think Daisy is getting jealous over the friendship that is brewing between Mrs Patmore and Mr Mason.

  30. Susan Miller says:

    Susan
I print your blog every week and give to my 86 year YOUNG Mom! She loves that you recap Downington for her 🙂 And her second love is to see the escapades of Jack! We are planning on coming to meet you in Atlanta in June! I was SO excited when I read you are coming to FoxTale Books!!!!! YAY!!!!!
Snuggle down and keep warm during the blizzard!
    We love you!
    Susan and Sue

  31. KarenP. (Wisconsin) says:

Oops….my little phone screen doesn’t lend itself well to corrections. Last comment should have said “my heart”….and Thomas, not Tom. So sorry….

  32. Bonnie says:

I made a comment the last post, I don’t see it and few were here. So I guess my comments aren’t making publishing. I had asked a question about Marigold.

Why didn’t Joe alert you the show was on?

    • sbranch says:

Last week, WordPress decided to update the underpinnings of this blog, thereby dismantling it in the very worst way. We lost lots of comments and for a few days, nothing was quite right. It took a while, but it’s all back now, until they do it again! So sorry to you and everyone who didn’t see their comments go up!! I don’t know why Joe didn’t mention it. He knows I’m rabid about Downton, but he also knew how tired I was, so he probably thought I’d made the executive decision to go to bed without it.

  33. judy says:

Dear Susan, I came here earlier to see what you thought of the latest Downton and was confused to see last week’s entry still up….now I know “the rest of the story!” Nice to know that I am not the only one who can mix up days. My favorite scene last night was when the little boy went into Lord Grantham’s bedroom and their conversation. Now after reading about your snowstorm and the lovely “The End” being written, I am going to cozy up to our fireplace and dream about reading Martha’s Vineyard Isle of Dreams…can’t wait! jep

  34. Trudy says:

Love the squirrel hanging on the birdfeeder!!!
    Did you enjoy Downton!!!
Congrats you wrote down –The End- of your book. I don’t like these words because it means that the story is over and I had to close my book.
    Stay warm!
    greetings,Trudy from the Netherlands

  35. mary spring says:

..you “messed up” and are so sorry ?!?..nonsense !!..you are just so immersed in your moment of creating !!..’so happy to see that you are finishing up your latest creation !..and ‘can’t wait to see it !!..’loving your snow pictures today.. we know how you love a good snow storm !..my daughter, who lives in Westerly, just said that it looks like a snowglobe outside right now !!..what fun !!..snow is so magical looking.. enjoy your day and congratulations on winding this newest book up !!…wooeee..I am excited !!..thanks Susan !

  36. Lori Metschan says:

Love the end of the book! So close, I can’t wait!!! xoxoxo from Seattle!! 🙂

  37. Judy says:

It all looks sooo! cozy. I had my grilled cheese yesterday. Yummy.

  38. Heartsdesire says:

Oh Susan, so sorry you missed Downton last night, but so happy for you that “the end” is in sight for your book. Joe was right, there wasn’t much to miss on Downton, a few flirtations between Mary and the car racer. The Dowager is all in a huff with Cora because she has had to step down as president of the hospital committee and Cora has been asked to accept the position. Robert is on the mend, and Downton has been opened to the public, and looks like it could be a real money maker for the family. The clothes were fabulous as always, as was the scenery, and Daisy is still annoyed with Mrs. Patmore and her developing relation with Mr. Mason.
I’ve had a hard time today also thinking it was Sunday. The British Columbia powers that be, have deemed today to be Family Day (they thought we needed a break in February), and so it’s a holiday here. Weekend holidays always make me forget what day it is. Just think though, it’s one day closer to the next Downton Abbey.
Oh, an eagle just flew over the house! We live in an area that is zoned for agriculture so there are lots of fields, probably full of mice for the eagle to hunt. The eagles are fabulous, but for me, they don’t compare to your beautiful cardinals. Love the squirrel hanging from the bird feeder. I guess they have to eat too.

  39. Linda says:

    Susan!!!
I am so glad you missed Downton this time! ha! Because I always wait to read your post until Tuesday, since I don’t get to watch Downton until Monday night! I opened your post only to see if there was anything about it, and I was so glad to see there wasn’t. Anyway, LOVE the S N O W !! We are expecting a few inches tonight and tomorrow (bummer, I want MORE) We did have 30 inches two weeks ago! That was wonderful!!! I do the same as you, I snuggle by the woodstove with a cuppa tea and knitting or my iPad and cruise Pinterest!! How wonderful! to go to SCOTLAND!!! I will sneak along in your luggage!!!
Enjoy your snow, many hugs!!! Linda 🙂

  40. Joann says:

Oh goodness…. I heard of your blizzard. You must be getting ours that came a few days ago and now has passed, leaving heaps and piles of snow everywhere, like mini mountains to circumvent in the parking lots.
Grocery store shelves have been restocked, roads are slippery sloppy and the white is absolutely blinding. Our bird feeders are full and the birds are loving the sunshine! But, now the storm has taken the slow train East and gained momentum once again to bear down upon MV.

Hang on—we got 18 inches out of this one, the most we’ve had in one snowstorm for some time. It was wonderful but its timing was less than ideal. My poor sweetheart has been in the hospital for a full week and I spent the week there, too, only coming home for a bath and change of clothes and to bring him some home baked things to eat. Unfortunately, he had no appetite for 5 of the 7 days. It was scary. He is still off of work and goes back this week 1/2 days. We were supposed to have a little vacation at the end of this month but we’ve had to cancel everything as he cannot travel. He has a PICC line for IV infusions 3 x’s a day. This is to a man who was perfectly healthy 2 weeks ago.
He got a blood staph infection, most probably from an ‘unclean’ blood draw at his yearly physical 2 weeks ago. Yes, that’s right. I can explain more, but please be careful and watch when someone sticks you with a needle that they don’t ‘tap’ the vein or touch your skin in any way after they have disinfected the area. Now we know what to watch for.
Here’s to birds, snowstorms, finish lines, and celebrating…. oh yes, go Broncos!
    xoxo
    Joann

    • sbranch says:

I hear about these terrible infections more and more ~ SO scary! I’m so happy they caught it and he is getting treated! Weird stuff! Best to you darling Joann! Sending love . . .xoxo

    • charissa says:

Sending you and your hubby get well hugs. I am so sorry that happened and thanks for the warning.

  41. jan lane says:

We get to watch it on KPBS which is a San Diego station. We live north of LA in a little mountain village, and wanted to be able to watch Charger games. That station always shows the previous airing of Downton Abbey, and then it shows the current episode. It is neat, because you can watch it over again.
Not much happened and I agree with Joe, that Julian is “stalling”. You didn’t miss too much. Not like the episode when His Lordship had his dramatic projectile bleeding at the dining table.

Our snow is almost melted and the sun is out. I should guess it is almost 60 degrees. Our garden looks sad, but the rule of thumb here is not to plant until after Mother’s Day, as there can be many frosts and snowfall yet to come. Our forecast is clear until the end of February.

Enjoy the day and your cosy weather. Looks beautiful.

  42. Jean says:

I am disappointed. I love your commentary on Downton Abby! You say just what we are all thinking!

  43. We dodged the 18 inches here last week. I think we had 6 inches of heavy, wet snow! Girl kitty’s face is so sweet!
The storm today was dark coming across the Bay, but only flurries. Something to see…the sky.
Downton was more fighting about the hospital, fundraisers and romances…possibly going wrong!
Good to be “caught up with things” I say. I am NOT…yet.
    Warm Hugs,
    Margot

  44. Vickie Getty says:

I wanted so badly to wait until the next book to come out before I read Fairy Tale Girl, and read them one after the other. But I caved and read Fairy Tale Girl, and now I simply cannot wait for Martha’s Vineyard to come out. Absolutely Loved Fairy Tale Girl. Shed a tear or two, heart went ka-lump some, but as always, amazed at the strong woman you are. So now I’m going back through and re-reading, and paying more attention to illustrations and quotes, etc. – was just so intent on reading the story the first time around. Had to laugh at Joe digging the tunnel to the liquor store. Priorities are straight! The kitties are so pretty, and so lucky to be snug and warm, well-fed and loved. Enjoy your beautiful snow day.

    • sbranch says:

I hope you love the second one too . . . I think it might be my favorite of all. (on some days especially!) I have literally been trying to write this book for years. I have two other starts that I never finished. But I finally figured out how to do it, and so, for better or for worse, here it comes!

      • Vickie Getty says:

I loved Fairy Tale Girl. I knew I would love Fairy Tale Girl, and I did. Every second, every page turned was every bit as good as I expected it to be. Now I can’t wait for the middle of the story, cause we all know the happy ending!

  45. Nota Morey says:

Well! Talbot should NEVER wear a hat like that again–looked kinda dopey. And, I think Daisy has become not very nice–maybe she never was! Doesn’t want Mr. Mason to have Mrs. Patmore as a pal. Imagine! And, Mr. Carson is going to need some “husband lessons”. And, Robert groaned–uh oh! And, the Countess is really upset, and we know what that means. And, did we ever think we would feel sorry for Barrow? Enough–what do you think?

  46. Leslie Freeman says:

We are SO proud of you and cannot wait to get our hands on that new book! It is snowing here in Maine too but you get the prize for the 18″ forecast!

Downton moved along nicely but Granny is NOT pleased with Cora. Poor Robert…. How many more episodes do we have? Bboohoo, not enough!

Take a break now and watch your snow and Downton.
Leslie in Maine (am I first to commemt!?!)

    • sbranch says:

I love Granny’s anger. She does it with such passion! We only have two more episodes (I’m pretty sure).

  47. Susan Morgon ( an Ohio gal in SoCal ) says:

Well, bless your heart! You’ve been so busy that it’s now wonder you lost track of time. We’re as excited about “The End” as you are. Now, down to Downton. About Tom – we are hearing the words brother and sister so many times that it’s hard to know what we’re being prepared for! Will Julian Fellowes marry Mary off to Henry of the Narrow Head, or will he surprise us when Mary and Tom suddenly look as one another, and she doesn’t feel like it’s moving too quickly at all. I know what my vote is! I think that if Mr. Carson mentions Mrs. Patmore one more time, Mrs. Carson might just exclaim, “Well, maybe you should have married HER!” I really miss the pre-wedding tenderness that we saw from him. Where is the billing? Where is the cooing? Where is the newlywed bliss?
Well, I am going to give posting this comment a try. First to copy and paste somewhere, just in case. If things aren’t fixed, WordPress is going to have some ‘splainin to do!

  48. Jeanne DeShazer says:

The ONE time Mr. Barrow is doing something for completely unselfish purposes (I think!) he gets kicked in the teeth. I guess Baxter was right. He is his “own worst enemy” but seeing him all alone crying and not having any way of being believed brought out the empathy in me.

I’m pretty sure someone is going to die but I certainly hope it’s not Robert Crawley, the Earl. I couldn’t stand it. But let’s face it, life expectancy wasn’t what it is now during those days. I do think everyone’s faced enough tragedy for one series and I just want happy endings. They can all die in private after the series is over!

  49. Janice says:

Nothing happened? Oh, my. that’s a man for you. Sorry, Joe, but lots happened. Lady Mary knows about Edith’s baby, “what a stupid thing to do. go and get pregnant so no man will ever want her!”

And, Julian showed what attitudes toward homosexuality were in those years, how they could ruin a man. Andy was only getting reading lessons. Too bad.
In the kitchen, raging jealousy. She’s so young, insecure, and inexperienced. Doesn’t realize there’s room for both of them at the farm.
Have fun watching Susan! I thought of your reactions through the whole episode, loved wondering what you were thinking.
    Janice Collett

    • sbranch says:

I loved it as usual. Was struck by the clothes! I didn’t think Mary knows exactly that Marigold is Edith’s? I think she knows there’s something going on . . . but did she get the whole story? I have to go back and look!!!

  50. Debbie Noyola says:

Just have to comment one more time. I wanted to tell you that I watched your interview from years ago with Marion Vuilleumier. It was so interesting. Especially when you talked about how you did your book. I love that you not only do the beautiful watercolors, but that you also hand write every word. I now own a second printing of that 1st cookbook as I mentioned in my previous comment. I hope you read that comment btw. Anyway, just wanted to say that I think that “the end” you just finished with is very beautiful indeed. I do admire your work & your integrity in all you do shines bright. I have 3 nieces in Massachusetts, 2 in Plymouth. My 2 dearest sisters & 1 brother, parents of said nieces are all sadly deceased. If they were still alive the likelihood of a visit to New England would be greater. It’s not an impossibility, so perhaps one day I will journey there again & I would insist we ferry over to Martha’s Vineyard so I could drop by & pay you a visit. Maybe even have a nice little chat over a peah cidah!

    • sbranch says:

Well if you do it, you should do it in the fall . . . so very beautiful! That interview is so hard for me to look at!

  51. Donna H. in Arkansas says:

Forgot it was Sunday? You have had your head down too long working!
I can’t even discuss Downton Today either because I kept getting interrupted. Every few minutes either the phone would ring, someone would come through my door, or other things needed immediate attention. The bits and pieces that I did see are just like what Joe described – stalling. Maybe I will go back and view last night’s episode again. Happy Blizzard to you!
    Donna

  52. Ritchie Saunders says:

Ha Ha Ha! So glad this happens to other people but I’m not writing a book but even though I’m much older than you (79) and retired the days are so busy that if I don’t look at my calendar every day runs into another. My daughter in Chelmsford MA is getting hit today too and she says she is so spoiled but should not complain after last years record snowfall. It is 80 degrees here in Pacific Palisades with the dry winds blowing so I would prefer rain (which we really need) or cool temps that we had a week ago since we are on fire alerts. Congratulations on another great book. Happy New Year!

  53. kari says:

Mrs. Hughes should ask for an annulment. Daisy is my new least favorite character. I wouldn’t trust Miss Cruikshank as far as I could throw her. And, the grand ending will be that all of the servants will get other jobs and Cora and Robert will be left to fend for themselves.

  54. Lacy Province says:

I’ve never been one to shirk from a job needing to be done, so here goes.
    Hooray for you!
I’m doing a congratulatory happy dance in honor of your book completion.
Isn’t it a great feeling to finish a task.
Here, here ~ grilled cheese sandwiches for everybody!
    Hugs!!!

  55. Cathy Grasso Hoff says:

See, there was a reason your mind was telling you it was Saturday – you wanted to get that book finished! Can I tell you how happy it makes me to see your drawings and paintings and pictures? Oh, so happy. They make me smile even here at work! Stay safe in the storm. We are only getting glanced by it, 1-3 inches which is fine by me. I am 45 minutes north of Albany and right now all I see is brown grass – a bit boring. But then again, I don’t want too much snow! Ah, I am never happy. lol Take care and give those kitties a rub on the head from me.

  56. Susie says:

Well, I am no help, because I have missed it two weeks in a row! We were in New Orleans last weekend, and had a MariGras/ Super Bowl/ 35th anniversary party last night. No better way to wake up on your anniversary than with three grandchildren in the house.

  57. Barbara Fruehe says:

You may also enjoy the 16 episode BBC series THE PARADISE! Binge watched! Working from home office day job computer graphics. Moved all my art supplies and art table to a freshly painted room upstairs! (Organic Bamboo by Kelly Moore) Great lighting. Can’t wait to start being creative! You are my inspiration Susan Branch. I’ll have your website open on the iPad up there!

  58. Heidi G says:

Joe summed it up best. I felt like it ended mid-sentence. Either that or I drifted off to sleep at the very end and missed the real teaser.

  59. Joan Lesmeister says:

I missed it too! Because we had family company…and my daughter, hubby, and 3 teenage girls said they watch Downton – even caught up from #1 by visits to the library, On Demand, whatever it took to catch up….then they missed it last night because they were with us!!!!! They’re having friends over for the last show, & already know they’ll be in tears!!! Love this blog (I always love this blog, just want you to not forget that!!), the snow, and the whole kit and kaboodle (am I close on that old saying?)! The End!!!!! xoxoxo!!!

  60. Christie says:

Darling Delirious Susan, I know I am probably the only Girlfriend that hasn’t been watching Downton Abbey (despite the fact that I love your DA comments and photos of the costumes and sets) but…. I am SO glad to get a blog-full of your house, and your views out the windows of your lovely snowstorm and your furry and feathered neighbors at the feeders, and Joe’s wonderfulness, and the kitties, and your art, and the Book, and dreams of Scotland, and your comfy cozy pillowy couch in front of the fire, and scrumptious lunches from your kitchen. Yes, the last words on the last page of the book are beautiful because they are making you so happy. (Though, when we have the book in our hands and we come to the last page, I’m pretty sure we will wish for a few chapters more.) And speaking of more, I’d like to add my congratulations and a virtual rose to Joe’s bouquet celebrating the beginnings of a Susan Branch movie! Wow, how I hope Hollywood sticks to your book and realizes they don’t need a scriptwriter to change anything. Have a lovely rest of your Sunday/Monday. I will be re-reading ‘It’s Monday!’ again during my next break. Thank you! See you in Danville in May! xo Christie

  61. Lorraine from White Plains, NY says:

Glad to know I’m not the only one who misses a day now and then!

  62. Lacy Province says:

Oops, I jumped the gun. I was so excited for you in thinking the whole book was out the door complete. Sorry, ie. “corrections, and I have to design the back cover and the end papers and things like that!”

Anyway, Downton Abbey last night, oh dear. Trouble is a foot. Poor Barrow, his state of mind doesn’t look good. Mary, picking away at poor Edith again & again. Things are moving along with her car driving grease monkey. And whatever is going to become of Aunt Violet’s status as Queen of Everything?
Looking forward to next week, but so sad it will be the last until the movie.

    • sbranch says:

LOL, “Grease monkey” — those words sound so funny to me!

      • Chris Wells From Knickerbocker, W. TX says:

Very funny!! Car driving grease monkey!! That’s what he is! And he brings NOTHING to the table!! He will spend, spend, spend Downton into the ground! Why doesn’t Mary listen to us?

        • sbranch says:

Nothing to the table!!! His name, of all the useless things! Well, maybe not, maybe I just don’t know. But I’ll take the head on Tom’s shoulders any day of the week!

  63. Sally Killgore says:

Ahhhh Scotland, love that country. Thanks for the glimpse of winter, looks very cozy.

  64. Jane Franks says:

How funny! We do that. What day is this??? Glad to know I’m not the only one! Occupational hazard of working at home!! I’ve skipped down after the Downton comment by Joe. You might want to take a peak and decide for yourself!! I won’t give it away, but had some “definite” feelings about certain people!! You probably know you can catch it on PBS on line — the entire episode if you want to. Well, now I’ll go back and read the rest of the blog! I’ll probably be back!! But CONGRATS!!! again on completing the book!! How good that must feel, and no wonder you don’t know which day it is!! xo

  65. marty from New York City says:

Well Susan, we are all proud of you and your accomplishment involved in writing (painting?) “The End”, and you surely have a right to celebrate the good news– but the only survival path Joe makes is to the liquor store?
As you will see when you view DA tonight, you may need to “Steady the Bus”. I don’t think that we even got to a February “Rabbit Rabbit!
Have to agree with Joe’s analysis-time is so short-what on earth was Julian up to with this episode. You will find some delightful moments and the heavenly clothes and views are all there, but it did seem as though he was marking time.
Enjoy the lovely snow day ! All the best , Marty/

  66. Kathi Sanoba says:

The only things I can say about Downton last night is…. Mr. Carson is going to get slapped real soon (if not by his new bride then by ME), and I loved the romantic moment in the tunnel between Mary and Henry (although I don’t feel they are really right together, myself). As Joe said, it did feel almost like a placeholder – nothing very monumental happened and it seemed disconnected. But maybe that’s just me…..still liked it tho. Love your blizzard scenes. Kind of is that way in Cleveland today but not nearly as cozy-looking as in your house!

  67. Carolyn says:

Ha! Just checked the blog to see if you had posted a Downton summary after last night’s episode–your summary is like the whipped cream on the sundae! Enjoy the show and congratulations on finishing your book! Happy blizzard and fingers crossed that the power stays on!

  68. mari1017 says:

Honey, dear Susan, I’m three episodes behind, so join the crowd! I read your posts to see what’s up, and now, finally, I’m catching up tonight (for as long as my mom can stand it 😉 ) and will be surprised 🙂 Saw the snow forecasts up there – wow! Always interested in New England as I lived there for soooo many years, and now my sister lives just outside Burlington – and has no more than a dusting lol She’ll get hers, I tell her. But she sees the farmer next door bring out the cows and sheep every day. She walks to the Post Office, and in the summer will walk to the village beach on Lake Champlain – heaven!
Loving your pix, craving a grilled cheese, hugging in my heart your furkitties…it’s all wonderful! Cheering you on from Virginia as you wrap up your new book ~ can’t wait ~ and still hoping there’s a replenishment of those beautiful MV charms to go with it 😉 Have fun catching up & enjoy the snow!

  69. Leigh Nodar says:

Oh, Susan, I want your Downton review! Love them!

  70. Jane Franks says:

Well, I didn’t read far enough! I am SOOooo relieved. You are going to watch last night’s episode, and in front of the fire in a snow storm with Joe and cheese sandwiches! What could be better??? You know, I’ve never been jealous of snow, but I am beginning to go, hey, where’s ours???? But don’t stop sending photos. At least we can enjoy it vicariously. And what lovely fluffy snowstorms you are having. Heavenly. I can feel your delight and joy in getting to THE END!! I’m going to wait for your comments and then respond. I want to see if you think the same as me about some things!!! I’ll be back to check in a few hours!! xoxo

  71. DENA says:

BRRR looks cold , I HATE the cold , i live down south!!! Yea !! on the end congrats!! i found not to much happened this week , Little jealiousy in the kitchen , Just felt bad for the end with barrow crying, people thinking the worse when he is finally being nice to someone. Waiting to hear your comments ! Tomorrow is mardi Gras here, but not to into going to them, especially scince its been 3 weeks i had rotator cuff surgery. And start PT wednesday!

  72. Anne Rowe says:

It is snowing right now in NH…the seacoast will get another 8-10 inches on top of the 9 we got last week! Cozy inside (boohoo…no fireplace) but enough food and water…tea and milk…soups and breads…we’re OK. Love your snow pictures and kittie ones too. I’ve pre-ordered your book…can’t wait to read it! Enjoy the beauty of your blizzard!

  73. Audrey says:

Congrats on finishing the book! It must feel so good. I can’t wait to see/read it! I adore that picture of Girl Kitty ~ her sweet face and your comment about her made me smile. And I LOVE that drawing of the bird with its leg up on the feeder. So sweet, so adorable! I also have to add that I am totally envious of all that snow….send some down South please!!!

  74. peggy says:

Saw cute pic of Lady Violet which said, A super bowl? Is it by Wedgwood?

  75. Mandy Tackett says:

Hi Susan ~ I’m very excited because last Saturday night, we watched Downton Season 6 through to the END because we just got it on DVD! So Sunday nights will be bonus second watching’s for us! I won’t spill any DA secrets, however, except to say that it was phenomenal. And I will miss it dearly. There’s something to be said about owning your favorite TV program on DVD; soon we’ll be starting it all over again with Season 1. Enjoy!

  76. Marlene J says:

Can’t WAIT to receive your new book!! As someone who lives in the south, I’m so jealous of all of your snow…..it’s so beautiful!

  77. Lee Rose says:

Don’t feel bad about not knowing what day it is – I thought it was the last episode of Downton. I’m sitting there thinking, “They are not going to be able to wrap all these plot lines up in 20 minutes unless everyone dies.” Then at the end they had scenes from next week. Lol. Now I’m happy that there are more episodes.

My question is, who will kill Carson, Barrow or Mrs. Hughes?

  78. Lidia Ross says:

Hullo-hullo!! Some quick observations from lastnight’s (2/7/16) episode:
    1. Mr Carson deserves a spanking.
    2. Dowager Grantham will soon be in cardiac arrest if she doesn’t “pipe” down.
    3. Lady Mary looked absolutely divine whilst hanging-out with the “guys.”
    4. Happy that Mary invited Tom to go along with her (hmmm).
    5. Feeling sympathetic towards Barrow.
    6. Daisy is another one that deserves a spanking.

  79. Marianne Doyle says:

No need to dither, Joe was right, you didn’t miss a thing!

    Marianne

  80. Sue Diers says:

I adore your writing, your enchanting illustrations and especially today, your kind sharing of the blizzard with us. The Vineyard is one of my favorite places on earth but alas, my visits there are so far confined to the months of summer. So while you cozy down in front of the fire, I will sit in the sunshine in Portland, Oregon and dream about winter on Martha’s Vineyard, a dream enhanced by your wonderful words and charming photographs.

  81. Carol McSeveney says:

    Dear Susan….
While you are snowed in, looking out of your kitchen window at the winter wonderland, we here in California, are sweltering in 80 degree heat! You are surrounded with beauty, while we are bedecked by brown grasses, because of the water shortage.
And…2weeks ago I did the same thing re: Downton Abbey. I thought it was Saturday, so didn’t turn on the television. I was shocked when I discovered my error. Thank heaven for the iMac! Watched DA on Monday morning.
I love the last page of your new book. Can’t wait to read the sequel!! I see you will be at Vromans in Pasadena again this time. Last year we were there, but we’re late due to something unforeseen. We stood in the back behind a pole! BUT Joe was also back there and we got to speak to him. All was not lost.
Thank you for the darling blog you send…..it is so entertaining.
    XOXO Carol

  82. Paula says:

You are so cute and so fun and cozy, wish you were around the corner, I’d put on some mucluks (sp) and come watch Downton Abby again with you two, and I can just taste the grilled cheese!! Downton was good as always, sad at the end, wonder whats to come of that. Oh and Violet is so upset. But wait till you see the dress and headband (not sure that’s what its called) Lady Mary wore when she went out in London…..and she took Tom along!! Even though things seem to want to point us in other directions, I’m with you, would like them to get together and he can show her how to make nice, nice! Enjoy your cozy Sunday….er Monday (he he!) afternoon.

  83. Grace From Barnstable says:

I think Joe is right about Julian stalling. Considering how few episodes are left, I don’t think the storyline progressed very much with last night’s episode. I hate to break it to you Susan but I really don’t see Tom and Mary getting together. He called her his “sister” yet again. It really is going to be very sad to leave all these wonderful characters. Good thing we have all YOUR wonderful characters to look forward to!

  84. queenmum says:

I hate to disagree with Joe, but monumental things happen in each episode! Saturday afternoon and evening found me watching the last five episodes, one right after the other, thanks to DVds. I won’t give anything away, but let’s just say that I am so very sad it’s over! My husband has not yet seen the final piece, so I have no one with whom to discuss it….I think he may have done it on purpose.
I hope you enjoy the snow and the show.
    xoxo,
    queenmum

  85. Jo says:

We don’t have cable so we watch Downton on the computer a day or two later, glad to have you as company this time.
We are very Springy here in Salem, Oregon. Lots of sun (today, not the usual rain), daffs popping up, camellias blooming, birds and sun worshipers, “clam” happy. Just a few years back we had 3 or 4 inches of snow on this date, but recently winter comes in November and doesn’t stay terribly long.
Have fun in the snow and toddies after to warm your loving hearts.

  86. Kat from Jersey says:

So exciting about finishing the book! Many congratulations! I also just finished filling my bird feeders, since snow is on its way to to NJ tonight. It’s funny to watch the birds puff themselves up to keep warm! We had a pair of mourning doves during the last storm that were so puffy, they were larger than pigeons!

Downton was great, and had a lot of funny moments. The house continues to astound, and the ladies’ wardrobes continue to make me sad that I’m not living in 1920’s England so I can wear them and swan around going out to fabulous dinners in London. I won’t spoil it, but I will say that I really wanted poor Mrs. Hughes to grab Carson’s walking stick and thwap him over the head with it!

  87. Jennie Lou says:

Oooh, what a treat: cozy inside with a fire, grilled cheese and loved ones all around AND an unseen episode of Downton to luxuriate in – maybe even twice –
(which will be three times for Joe – there’s dedication!). So true-to-life, this episode of DA. I was especially moved (and not in a good way) about how very little the Granthams know about their amazing FAMILY home! Golly! They ought to have taken Granny up on her offer to be there, she might at least have know who some of the portraits were of. And they really might have thought to ask Mr. Carson for a cheat sheet, as he probably knows every nook and cranny of the House as well as the Family. Watch for the little boy who pops in on Lord Grantham-priceless! What is the bee in the bonnet of Mrs. Mason, the younger? Who would begrudge Mr. Mason Mrs. Patmore? I think Julian wants everyone to get their chance at a happy ever after as they walk into the sunset. Enjoy, enjoy! Congratulations on “The End” of the latest book, what a wonderful achievement. We who write salute you! Sunny and 60-degrees here in the South Puget Sound region. Cheers to all the girlfriends. Happy Mardi Gras!!

  88. Fran Silver says:

Susan, you are such a delight! It is like we are all just sitting together, watching the storm and enjoying our conversation. I am so happy for you that you were able to do The End page, and very happy for all of us, as reading the book is that much closer!
    Enjoy and relax!
    Thanks g
    For your wonderful blog.

  89. Bonnie L says:

I must have ESP! Was thinking about you, Joe, the kitties, and the storm and lo and behold…an e-mail!! I am glad to see all are warm and cozy and the snowfall is as beautiful as ever!

  90. Heather Eddy says:

I keep waiting for the right time to watch Downton Abbey. Like when I break my leg and have to stay home. Is it right to wish for a broken leg?

  91. Kirsten in So. Cal says:

I’ll just say this, Mr. Carson better watch out! He’s getting on my last nerve. I think Mrs. Hughes will just have to tell him soon!

  92. Sally says:

Sounds like a marvelously romantic day at your house – snow, fire, kitties, grilled cheese, Joe, and DOWNTON! Sigh. As to the latest episode, two people to hug: Thomas, for having real feelings; Robert for kindly welcoming that precocious little boy into his private bedroom! Two people to slap (make that 3): Mr. Carson, for his over-persnicketiness; Daisy, for her childish jealousy; and Miss Baxter, for even THINKING of visiting Coyle in prison! Overall, like Joe said – nothing monumental. Probably a calm before the storm. Speaking of storms – enjoy your beautiful snow!! Sending you a Downton Sista hug!

  93. Louise says:

    Susan,

Nothing too unusual last night on Downton. However, I think Mrs. Patmore does want to be the new Mrs. Mason. I think Mr. Mason wants the same, he brought over a basket of fresh veggies as a gift for Mrs. Patmore and Daisy went nuts..

At the end of the episode, Thomas was crying and now I feel sorry for him.

    Louise

  94. Tracy Jones says:

Hi Sue! We’re on our second snow day from school which pushes our 100th day of school to tomorrow! We only received a few inches of snow this time but not on Friday. We got almost a foot and my son totaled his car in it! He is fine but I’m afraid the car has seen better days. Downton was great as always…the costumes this season seem to be more beautiful than ever. I really enjoyed the Dowager and her tantrum over the hospital position. I’m sure that isn’t the end of it! Looking forward to your new book – I have it pre-ordered so I am as excited as everyone to receive it! I wish I could have a second chance at love like you did…just can’t wait to read all about it! xoxo Tracy

Thoughts on poor Mr. Barrows? He is trying so hard to change his ways. Whtat a wonderful actor. I actually feel sorry for him. I used to dislike him so much!!!

I love Miss Baxter and her kind friendship and compassion towards Barrow! He didn’t treat her very nice at first and so she really has reason to dislike him. But, I think she sees him for the needy person he is and wants to help him. The others have been through the wringer with his past actions so are not so quick to trust him. He’s been a little conniver! Hopefully he will find something positive to look forward to in his life. I think he’s seen the error or his ways (especially after that word from Lord Rantham) and wants to be a good person.

He still connives . . . look how he tried to “out” the former maid when she was sitting at the Downton luncheon with the family. Terrible. That part of him is a problem! But I’m with you, I feel bad for him anyway!

  96. Oh my gosh, I am so excited I can’t contain myself. Almost, finished, tears of joy and pride for you. I have resisted commenting for so long. I thought you had enough to do and my one extra comment might take you over the edge. Where to begin? Back in October, I had a total hip replacement (if there is anyone out there that needs a hip replaced DO IT), which allowed my husband, Mr. Lee, and I to watch Downton from the very beginning. I couldn’t sleep, any way, and he was home to care for me. Once we were all caught up we couldn’t seem to stay awake on Sunday nights so we would watch on Monday nights. Then, and only then, I would read your posts to Lee. He thinks you are brilliant just brilliant.
We would cheer your book progress…being patient and supportive, but so excited. So excited we start planning a road trip to meet you at one of the California bookstore locations. The whole family is so excited about your book tour, your trip across the pond, and the kitties are like dessert. I can’t believe Girl Kitty is 15 because she is so beautiful. Jack, of course, makes us squeal with delight.
I read Fairy Tale Girl aloud to the family on a road trip, Jacob is 12 and Holly is 8, such a good book full of important life lessons. Jacob thought you were just so clever to rip those pages out of the book on the nightstand. He is an avid reader and understood the significance. The coffee table got me because, I, too, had been married to a Mr. Wonderful.
There’s more but you have enough to do. Love, the Get Along Gang

Joe is right. It was very uneventful. Poor Robert spent the whole episode in bed. So glad Julian didn’t kill him off. I kept waiting for him to wake up dead or something awful. There were a couple of funny moments when the family was forced to give tours to the public to earn money for the hospital, and they knew absolutely NOTHING about the paintings of long-dead ancestors or any of the history of their own house. Quite entertaining. And then of course there is poor old cast-aside Violet. Fussing and fuming and angry. Can’t wait to see your take on this week’s episode.

Oh my gosh! I opened your blog and no Downton Abbey post. I love your posts. I send your link to my sister-in-law and now she is hooked on your blog also…I’m looking forward to seeing what you have to say about the goings on at Downton. Be back soon.
    Joyously,
    Betty

Too funny! No, nothing monumental happened, but always enjoyable to watch! Oh, I will be so sad when it’s all over!! Congrats on finishing the newest book…I look forward to reading it! Can’t believe you are getting so much more snow there…I live in Chicago and we’ve had hardly any all winter! Love your sweet kitties 🙂
