Happy Monday Girlfriends! MUSICA . . . We’ve been busy-busy, as usual. How’s everything with you? Joe and I are just getting “ready to GO” cross the country and meet everyone . . . doing little things around the house so I can feel proud that when we come home, nothing will upset us. Like dirty curtains or something. Hate that.

Joe repainted the downstairs bathroom, which needed it. We took all the pictures off the wall, cleaned them, washed and shined the glass, and put them back. And then I washed this little dresser scarf we have on a white painted table in there, oooooh, needed it bad.

Spring is for Dust Bunnies.

I love old-fashioned starch you mix with water . . . crisp and white is the name of the game. Starched things stay looking fresh a LOT longer than unstarched things. By about a year I would say.
So pretty. So happy here in . . .
![]()

I did the little curtain in the bathroom too. Ancient though it is. But starched, you can’t tell. If this curtain could talk!

When I first moved to the Island I brought lace tablecloths from California and made bedroom curtains from them. This curtain watched me write my first book! It saw Joe and I fall in love! It’s the last survivor of them all and I am babying it.

Section-by-section, I remove dishes from the shelves, put them in the dishwasher, wash the shelves and put them back. The last time I did this was last fall . . . We’ll be gone two months and if I didn’t do it now, by the time we get home, this would probably reach out and slap me the moment I walked in the door. It’s all sparkly now, and I’m a proud mommy.

As for spring, we’ve had a week of anything but, including rain storms, huge winds, and giant clumps of snow.

Can you see it out there? It’s all melted now, but we’ve even had fires and made chicken stock. Gathering in the last bits of winter.

Y U M
With just a soupçon suggestion of spring . . . because my kitchen is my favorite place.
We stopped by the nursery before the rain started . . . very cheery . . . the juxtaposition between the indoors and the out!

Between snow drops and rain yesterday, I ran out and took pictures because oh yes, it is coming. Yellow is the rightest color for spring. ♥

Unless it’s pink. The buds for the magnolia and cherries are fat and swollen and ready to pop on the first sunny day. And we’ll still be here to make one of these bouquets. ♥

Oh yes, and hang some laundry on the line. Fluff the quilts. We are happy!

I do think we will miss this . . . the Beauty Bush will have to bloom without us here to see it.
And likely we will be too late for this when we get home in July. Definitely the peonies will be long gone. But if it gets nice before we go, I will be planting the garden the best I can so it will be pretty when we get back. Home. My favorite place. Home, without a book to write, just a house to clean, a stove to cook things on, and a garden to dig in? Oh, you know, I am so looking forward to that.
And these guys. I will miss them. Hardest thing of all to say goodbye to. Because I’m afraid they will think I’m abandoning them. But I’m NOT.

B E L O V E D

HOWEVER, there is a lovely exchange . . . I get to go see everyone, and put faces to the lovely comments I’ve received from my Girlfriends while creating books . . . As I’ve mentioned, there can be a real loneliness to book writing . . . but you make it much more bearable! So, as usual, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you are going to one of the signings, be sure to wear your Fairy Tale Girl Badge so we can know each other . . . You can get it Here . . .

And Lookit how cute you are.♥ I can’t wait. . . The funnest book signings in the world are what I get to go to. Joe loves them too. And we didn’t get to go for The Fairy Tale Girl . . . we stayed home so I could finish Martha’s Vineyard Isle of Dreams. This photo was taken back in 2013 when we went for A Fine Romance . . . so this next book signing adventure is actually a double whammy.![]()

This was from the tea party in Wilamette (near Chicago) in 2013, and we’re going back for another one! Who wouldn’t! These people are so happy because they have just been given the best tea in the world, cakes and everything! I’m telling you, I have the best Girlfriends! ♥

So often, it’s a family affair, mom’s and daughters and sisters come together . . . LOVE it.

You all know Chris Wells from Texas who leaves such nice comments on the Blog? There she is (on the left) in Ohio with her whole family! I have no words for how honored I felt that they came to see me.♥
And some of my California Girlfriends . . . came from Palo Alto to San Luis Obispo. Honored again! ♥

So yes, I’m doing this . . . lots of it. Not that it’s helping in any visual way, but I’m feeling pretty perky on the inside with lots of energy, despite the ravages of time fully developed on the outside. Whatever.
Mas MUSICA
And I got this sent off to the printer . . . It’s the 30th Anniversary Edition of Heart of the Home with lots of new pages and art and recipes. SO exciting. The endpapers in the first book were blank, so I got to decorate them for this book, and lots of other things . . . and of course this one will have a nice bright red ribbon. I can’t help it. I have always loved books with ribbons.![]()
And I did a cute ad for Yankee Magazine . . . for the May-June issue. AND, I got an entertainment lawyer to work out the details on the option for the three books for either a movie or a TV series! Remember that? It is still sort of happening! I don’t think it WILL happen, because it’s just too crazy, but it still could! It hasn’t fallen through yet, and until it does, I intend to enjoy the heck out of it! The first thing the lawyer asked me was who I wanted to play me. That’s how I knew I would like him. Those are the fun questions!
And I invited my Island girlfriends to a TGIT (uesday) Birthday Party next week ~ because it’s my birthday and I get to give THEM presents, which they deserve for having such a terrible MIA girlfriend like me for so long. I promise to be better (as soon as I get home!). 🙂 Oh well.

And look, somedays I even find this on Amazon. Not always, but sometimes, and it definitely cheers me up! And this is because of you too, don’t think I don’t know it. We are all word of mouth Girlfriends, this I know. And I love that we are selling the book for less than they are! And ours our signed. Ha! And we have them, but they don’t! Oh the power. Proud mommy. And then, yesterday… this happened:
Oh yeah . . . the books came to the Island. And today, the books arrive in California and the mailing BEGINS!!!

And this is the first thing you will see when you open your book . . .

Here they are on my table . . . I’m signing them for my brothers and sisters and best friends, and Tuesday Girls, and Diana, and Publisher’s Weekly and Little, Brown and everyone I have known for the last half century.
My kitchen is now complete. It’s a strange feeling to see the book actually here. But a good one. And the other thing I’m doing is signing SIX of them for giveaways to YOU, right NOW. So this is your moment to leave a comment. ♥ If you already bought a signed book from us, that’s okay, this one will be personalized to you, with your own name, and you can give the other one to your best friend. It’s a win-win!
And Joe had a good idea . . . he said that I should save my worn-out paintbrushes, the ones I used to paint Martha’s Vineyard, Isle of Dreams with and give them away with these books, along with one of my paint-blotters-turned-bookmark. So each book in this Giveaway will have a paintbrush and a signed bookmark . . . So sign yourself up for the drawing by leaving a comment below . . . I already warned Vanna about the extra workload of drawing SIX names this time, poor girl. She’ll need a vacation in Cannes after this one! Love you Girls, Happy Spring! Still working on fabric and Willard! . . . talk soon!

Sitting in my coziest chair feeling the Monday blues with this rainy day reading your blog made feel so much better. I have all your cookbooks and love when I get your calendars. Stationary for gifts to have. And to give.
i so much enjoy your books and of course your blog.
hope i win. i enjoy your books and blogs
I am so excited for Isle of Dreams! I’ve had Fairy Tale Girl for quite some time, but just read it last weekend because I knew that once I’d read it, I’d be sad that it was over! I fixed that by re-reading it immediately! Thank you so much for sharing your story with us.
Oh joy! It seems like I’ve been waiting forever for my next Susan Branch fix! I’ll drive the mailman crazy waiting by the mailbox every day just in case that is the day my book will arrive. 🙂
I so wish you were coming closer to Minnesota! Can’t wait for my copy, love you, and the Vineyard is my heaven on earth!
Hi Susan,
This is the first time I have left a comment on your blog or on any other for that matter. I enjoy reading so much about you, your life, your home, and seeing the pictures you post. You are living quite an interesting life! You inspire me every time. I first came across your books (10 years ago) when working in our local public library. I have loved each and every book you have written that I could get my hands on! Your artwork is what first captivated me and still does. As far as your life stories, A Fine Romance is still one of my very favorites and so looking forward to reading Martha’s Vineyard, Isle of Dreams. I just wanted to say a hugh “Thank you!” for giving so much to us to enjoy. Hopefully, I will get the chance to meet you at Book People in Austin. Maybe you are aware of this already and since you and Joe are driving may I suggest a stop at a darling shop in Grapevine, Texas called “The British Emporium”
(british-emporium.com/). I just thought you and Joe might give yourselves a well deserved treat and stop by on your way to Austin. I’m sure you’ll find some favorite things. As I have. I promise you I have no connection to the store. I guess because you give so much to all of your “girlfriends” I wanted to suggest something I think you would enjoy. Wishing you and Joe a very pleasant, safe, book signing tour.
Thanks for all the happiness you share!
We are stopping at the British Emporium. They have carried A Fine Romance for the last two years and we want to go say thank you after Austin. I’ve never been there, but have wanted to for a long time! Thank you, kindred spirit!
I’ll be coming to see you soon Susan, either in MA or CT! Can not wait to receive my book, been waiting to read about your island life.
So excited about your new book and can’t wait to receive/devour it! I still have some Willard snail-mail (going back to October 1996), and most of your cookbooks. Praying for safe travels for you and Joe!
So happy that the new book is ready, can’t wait for my copy! I live in the Seattle area and may not see you on this tour, but I’ll follow your exciting journey across the country. Hugs to you and the kitties – my own two love the pictures of your two and I love your home and garden pics. Can I come live with you? jk of course…
What a lovely surprise to come home from a dreary day of work and see a post from my girlfriend. You instantly brightened my night. So much exciting news, I can hardly stand it. Enjoy your moment, what a special time for you. Sending ((((Hugs))) to you girlfriend. 🙂
So excited to read the third book!!!! My favorite trip my husband surprised me with was a trip to Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket for my birthday. Your books take me back!! I have them all and cherish each one!! Thank you!!
Hi Susan –
First, congratulations on the new book. I can’t wait to read it. Next, Happy Birthday to you. Have a wonderful day and celebrate wildly, And lastly, I am so excited you will be at FoxTale Book Shoppe in Woodstock GA on June 25. I will be there to see you. I could not believe it when I saw you would be there. Safe travels as you journey across the country. Susan in Atlanta
love love love your books!
Dear Susan,
I moved from Willmette, Il. four years ago. It was my favorite place as a book lover. So many like minded friends live there. I would love a copy of your new book. Your writing adds joy and a sweet feeling to my day. Smiles
Can’t wait to see you at the King’s English in SLC! Travel safe and keep the pictures and stories coming. I don’t know that I will pick up your revised edition of “Heart of the Home.” My 30 year old copy and I are pretty tight!
Hi Susan,
I am so excited for your latest release!!! I just love your work!!! I have your books in various places all over my house and just love to randomly open a page and read. Many times I will find some tidbit I may have missed or just truly love re-reading passages and recipes. Also love your recipes as well, many have become tried and true for me! I always feel so comforted while I am looking through your books, it’s a true warm fuzzy feeling. Your adventure sounds grand…I am so happy for you and you and Joe are so deserving of this fabulous trip after all of your hard work! It will be so exciting. I’m hoping to see if I one of the signings is not too far away so that maybe I could make it this time! You also have inspired me to get back on the cleaning house wagon…I have many things to sift through to donate, etc. It is such a great feeling. Also truly love to read your blog and hear what has been going on!!! Take care,
Jonna
Dear Susan,
I’m very excited here, my little world is all shook up! I just bought the tickets for your book signing in Morro Bay!! I live about three hours away in Central CA. I never thought you would come so close and I thought there is no way I can miss seeing her now! Hands a bit shaky I called and YES, they still had tickets. Okay, I’m in!! YAY!!! It’s gonna be me and my Fairy Tale Boy (my husband 😉). Never met a real live author that I’ve read and loved and laughed and cried with(so to speak) before. Sorry if I cry when I meet you, it could be overwhelming if you know what I mean! I’ll try to behave. See you there!!!! Lots of love!!!!
Annie
I’ll probably cry too, if I’m not smiling too hard! xoxo See you there Annie!
I’ll be missing the Island while you are away and your pictures of your morning walks through the woods to the beach, your beautiful old house, your garden and the kitties!!! But, I will be happy to see pictures of all the girls friends and your office kitties in CA! Wishing you a safe and joyful trip.
I recently discovered your book A Fine Romance and I love your artwork! Congrats on the new book!
I’m so excited to read the new book! When it comes I will do a double stomach flip! I really hope your trip is fun. Love and thanks for writing such wonderful books!
Your spring cleaning energy is contagious. When I return to Connecticut after visiting my daughter in Virginia, I am inspired to tackle some chores I’d rather avoid. Thank you! And it was so exciting to see the stack of new books. See you on May 1 in Madison.
See you in New Hope and I can’t wait! Met you in Ridgewood, NJ so now I will see you in PA. So sorry I will miss you on the Vineyard in April. Safe travels to you and Joe. Your books are as delightful as you! Can’t wait to read this long awaited sequel!
Time to begin stalking the mailman! He ( or sometimes she ) drives right into my driveway to deliver packages. I will be anxiously listening for the horn to blow around 3:30 or 4 letting me know my book has arrived! We spent the weekend spring cleaning here too. It is absolutely beautiful here in Eufaula, Alabama – 75 degrees and sunny with a slight breeze. Painted my outdoor furniture, purchased new cushions, dusted the house, fresh sheets on the bed! And a list of more projects to do… what a joy making house a home! I have enjoyed reading your post this afternoon from the back porch rocking chair, dog at my feet, daughter by my side, and a tree frog beginning to sing.
Life is so good Caroline! xoxo
So much to look forward to! The only thing better than your book would to meet you in person on your island!
Who will water your plants and feed the cats while you are away?
I have a friend living here! A kitty lover too.
Have a wonderful trip and hope it’s refreshing!
Happy Birthday Susan! I hope it is everything that you want it to be. Both of my children, my daughter-in-law and grandson are April birthdays. It’s a wonderful time of year.
I love to get my house all clean before a trip too! Then when you get back it’s like a present for yourself – to be able to walk in and just be happy to be home without thinking about the dog hair you didn’t vacuum. It’s not compulsive, it’s good planning! YOU certainly have accomplished an amazing amount of goals in the last few years! I find you totally inspiring – Thank you! I would love to win a book in your giveaway! My mom, sister, sister-in-laws, and nieces all enjoy your books, so it is not like it would be “extra” at our house – it would be coming to a good home! ❤️
Ooooh, I can hardly wait for my book to arrive in the mail! I hope you enjoy your upcoming travels. Happy Birthday to you!
Your wonderful blog always cheers me up, even on a cold and snowy Michigan spring day. I love all your books and art work! You are precious and loved!
🎶Happy-Almost-Birthday-to-You🎶…..🎶Happy-Almost-Birthday-to-You🎶…..🎶Happy-Almost-Birrrrrrrthdaaaaay-Dear-Suuuusan🎶……..Happy-Almost-Birthday-to Youuuuu!!!🎶 Aren’t you glad that you were born in April??!! 🤗 Me too!!!!!! ( the 19th ) Reading your books has thrilled me for years!…I have re-read them so many times that it is a wonder that the ink hasn’t faded right off of the pages!! I have every one and treasure them all!! I am SO LOOKING FORWARD to getting my copy of ISLE OF DREAMS ❤️ It’s like waiting for SANTA!! 😊 Gosh, I am SOOOOOO EXCITED about the MOVIE!!! I’m still thinking of who would/could possibly play you and nail it like Sissy Spacek nailed it when she played Loretta Lynn!! That is a thought that could keep me awake at night! I’m sure glad I don’t have to make those kind of decisions! YIKES!!😬 Well, my Dear Susan, have a very happy and safe road trip, and the Happiest of Birthdays!!! I cannot wait for all of your upcoming News!!!
When you think of it, let me know!!!
I KNOW!!!!!!!! MICHELLE DOCKERY!!!!!!! LADY MARY!!!! I thought of Zooey Deschanel first, but then…..Michelle Dockery popped into my head! How cool would THAT be???!!!!
She’d have to figure out how to overcome that “perfection” thing and elegant English accent! 🙂
Cannot wait for your new book to come out! I recently got my Victoria magazine( my favorite!) and saw your beautiful ad for the book! I’m dreaming of a trip to Martha’s Vineyard one day and can’t wait to read how you fell in love with the island! My mom is a fan of your books also and I’m hoping to bring her with me to meet you in Asheville! Safe travels! Virginia in N.C.
Love the idea of using old lace tablecloths for curtains. I have several lovely linens from my great aunts just sitting in drawers where no one can see them. This will be a good way to display them and I need new curtains in a few rooms, too!
They make great valances too.
I was thinking the same thing! Really a brilliant idea! I have not used some of them as tablecloths for fear of getting stains on them. Curtains would be gorgeous! And valances! xo
How exciting to be done with the hard part and now have the icing on the cake…with a cherry on top!!! It’s all sunshine and roses from here on in. Not that being away from home that long is easy because I know it’s not but you’ll be so busy and happy that it’ll just fly by. Then the really big adventure with the cherry on top! England and Scotland! Can’t wait. By the way …swooning over that curtain!
Dear Susan, I just learned about you recently and have been wildly searching the net for old copies of your cookbooks! I had a sleepover with my Mom this weekend and she is also in love with your sweet watercolors and delicious recipes! If I win I know exactly who I will give my extra copy to! Good luck to everyone!💗
What an extra special giveaway this is! I’m so looking forward to reading your new book and looking at all your beautiful illustrations and photographs. Your books are the kind you HAVE to pick up and look at often — a keepsake! I wish you were coming for a book signing/talk/Q&A in Birmingham, Alabama. The closest you will get is Woodstock, Georgia, but I have tickets to a 2:00 matinee of Wicked by the Birmingham Broadway Series (a traveling Broadway show) which will be going on at the same time. I might try to take a few days off of work and get to Memphis or Asheville to see/hear you — a great excuse for a mini-vacation! Wishing you safe and happy travels.
Thank you, Susan, for this lovely blog entry. You enjoy EVERYthing so much, the present and the future, it is contagious! I love ironing, especially starched curtains like yours, old tablecloths, my heirloom christening robe, even cotton shirts! Spring flowers are such a thrill aren’t they, outside where they grow and inside in little vases… What a joy!
Now to your book, I can smell the new pages from here and can’t wait for mine to arrive. Your illustrations are such a delight, very evocotive,
Enjoy your book-signing trip with Joe! With much appreciation, Sally
I just “found” you during Downton Abby! So all your books are new to me. I want to purchase the newer copyrights of the books. Winning one of your books would be a fabulous way to begin your section of my best loved books library. Books are my one weakness!
April brings sooooooooooo many lovely things………..
Robins, pansies, your birthday, my birthday….
and a new ‘baby’……can’t wait for the stork (aka the mailman) to deliver a copy here!
hi Susan!!! Thank you for the beautiful springtime post!! We are doing much the same around here…. our house is on the market and we have been digging deep to get it ready to sell. I am certainly not a horder but I do like my “things” and our real agent keeps insisting that we “declutter”…( that’s their most favorite word you know…) so, evidently I thrive in chaos and clutter…. who new that my 50 year old vintage wooden water skis would qualify as ” clutter”?? I have sucked it up and am turning loose of some things to help the cause…. it has been a huge job ( this is our 3rd time on the market), but I am getting pretty good at it.” ” “Downsizing” is another hateful word…. ya never know when you might need that 4th crock pot….(tee her)…..
I LOVE THE NEW BOOK!!!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!! I know it will be fantastic and I cannot wait until I get mine!!! ( just like everyone else) I am so looking forward to going on the book tour with you and Joe, especially that one little stop in St. Charles, MO!!! As time draws near, if you all have any questions or need help with anything, please don’t hesitate…. only a Tweet away!!! Take good care….. and enjoy the sweet springtime on your little Island of joy❤️
love, cindy xoxo
De “clutter?” Yikes. Thank you Cindy!!! Only a Tweet away!
I love all your books and posts. Wish you were coming to Houston. When?
Close. To Austin. Road trip?
I can’t wait to get your beautiful book, I loved your other ones, I’m hoping they get to become movies! I also really look forward to your blog, and Willards, this one inspired me to get my kitchen sparkly clean! Thank you, and Happy Birthday!
Love all of your books. It was such a joy to meet you in New Hampshire last fall and get my book signed. And an added bonus – got my picture taken with Joe!!
Hope to travel to one of your signings for Isle of Dreams. Thanks for all you do to keep us happy and loving our homes!
Hi Susan………as always, I enjoyed the lovely photos. You have such a talent…….not only for taking them but for choosing which ones to post. Happy Birthday to you! 🎂🍰 and enjoy your road trip.
XOXOXO
Thank you Susan, for enabling us to take a vicarious vacation to your magical land of Martha’s Vineyard! I can’t wait to visit amidst your pages and beautiful illustrations! And can’t wait to visit you on the Cape for a book signing – so excited!! Congratulations launching your baby!
When I saw those pictures of the stack of books my heart skipped a beat! Oh, the anticipation of it! Can’t wait to hold it in my hands. I am re-reading Fairy Tale Girl to refresh my memory before I start Isle of Dreams — so glad I decided to do that, for I’d forgotten some of it. I’m about halfway through and by the time the new book arrives, I’ll be ready to dive right in!
What an exciting post. I can’t wait for the revised Heart of the Home as well as
Isle of Dreams.
After much thought, I think that Jennifer Garner would be wonderful as you in the movie. Maybe, there could even be a part for Maggie Smith. Like a fairy godmother of sorts.
Have very safe travels.
Wait till you read the book, you will be surprised at the Maggie Smith idea.
Yesterday in Barnes & Noble. I asked for your books, on the wild hope I could curl up with one last night. None were in stock so I’m ordering them from you tonight.
I read and re-read A Fine Romance before my trip to England. This year, it’s New England. I look forward to your tour and hope to see you in Pa.
What a wonderful happy life you lead. I get inspired every time I read your post. Thank you, Susan. Safe travels to you and Joe. Have a wonderful time. Oh, yes, and early best wishes to you as you celebrate your birthday 🎉🎈🎂!
Toni in sunny California
Happy Birthday, Susan!
Thank you for all of your hard work the last many months for us girlfriends. We sure do appreciate each sweet thing you write and paint.
Hope to win a personalized book but I will get to meet you in Pasadena too.
Enjoy your time of memory making!
Melin
PS ~ Who do you want to play you in the movie…dream big?
Wish I we’re going to see you on the tour! Can’t wait to read the new book!
Enjoy your travels!
Susan-
Looking so forward to meeting you and Joe at The King’s English Bookshop in Salt Lake City.
One of your Fairy Godsisters!!!
Pat
My Godsister. Who could ask for anything more. xoxo
I loved reading your blog posts of your travels to England etc…. how wonderful to have your adventures all in one gorgeous illustrated book by YOU!! 🙂
So, in a nutshell, I’ve been a fan-have all your cookbooks-but haven’t been a huge fan. 🙂 Being born and living in Ca. my entire 55 years I’ve always been drawn to New England, for many of the same reasons as you. I haven’t bought your first 2 books in your trilogy but then started thinking…I think I might like the Martha’s Vineyard one, but I should start from the beginning. So last week I got Fairy Tale Girl and couldn’t put it down. LOVED IT! My heart is broken. So of course, having finished it last night I had to order the new one this morning. Amazon has it for free shipping but I wanted it sooner so the cheapskate that I am, I ordered it from you (paying shipping!) so I could get it right away. I am sorry for the ladies who have had to wait longer but being late to this party, I don’t have to wait as long to read the happy ending. Anyway, I just wanted to say I enjoyed Fairy Tale Girl so much-kind of surprised me how much lol. And can’t wait for Isle of Dreams. 🙂
This is a perfect testimonial Joanna! Thank you! You made my day! xoxo
When Fairy Tale Girl came, I was just getting out of the hospital from foot surgery and had been told I had to be completely non weight bearing for at least a month, likely three. I was not a happy camper, but when I arrived home, there was your book just waiting patiently for me. I honestly think it saved my sanity that first week of being immobile and the cutest thing that I wanted to snap a picture of – my 17 month old nephew loved your book as well. I had my “spot” where I kept all the necessities handy and your book was always on top. He loves books and had been eyeballing it while I was reading – needless to say, when I made the mistake of putting it down and wasn’t watching, it came up missing. I looked around and found him hunkered down on the floor, saying “apple”, “baby”, guhl (girl), tar (guitar)… He was enthralled and it became a daily battle as to who got the book first. He usually won, but since he was sweet enough to “read” it to me, I didn’t fight too hard. I can’t wait to show him the next installment! His birthday is next week, and I’ve pre-ordered my (our) book so hopefully, it will arrive soon!
17 months! Oh my! How darling, Dena!
Have a great book signing excursion across the country! All us Girlfriends are waiting for you
and are so so excited! Safe travels, stay happy and healthy!
What a fairy tale life you are living, and I get to live it along with you, through you! Have a safe and fantastic trip, wow 2 months! Can you imagine!
Happiest of Birthdays,…and Sally Field should play you in your “maybe” almost tv or movie!
I have been waiting so long to read “Isle of Dreams”, I glad it’s coming soon!
Dear Susan,
Thank you for this wonderful slice of your life that you shared so beautifully in this post. Jack and Girl are just so beautiful to admire and seeing your lace curtains and flowers made my day, as I have been inside looking out at a blizzard over the Cape Cod Canal, and not pretty flowering bushes.
Sharing your books with friends is one of my most favorite things, and then we love to have tea and share our delight over and over! Thank you, thank you.
May your trip be filled with flowers and beauty everyday!!
Susan, so looking forward to reading your new book! It’s always such a thrill to see a new post! Thank you
Enjoy the road trip and stay safe in your travels. i hope to see you in New Jersey!
All sounds soooo exciting !!!
Hurrah hurrah for you, for your book, and for meeeee because I get to read it!
Happy trails, and big hugs, from Pam The Fan in chilly (brrrrrr) Montreal! ❤️🍾🍰🎉🇨🇦❤️
I would so love to win this signed book for my mom. She’s been a fan of yours since your first book and buys your calendars every year though that sometimes becomes quite a treasure hunt.
As much as I love to travel, I would hate the thought of leaving my gardens and my home in the spring. It’s my favorite time of year at least until fall rolls around.
I wish you well on your tour of signings.
Wonderful post! The book looks beautiful and so happy that you and Joe will be crossing the country to visit with us Girlfriends! Hoping to get to Asheville for your visit in NC. Keep up the good work and enjoy your very special birthday!
I am so looking forward to receiving my book in the mail. And, if I win another one, Yippeee!!!
Can’t wait to see Martha’s Vineyard through your eyes! I’m already hungering for a return to England and engaging again in my own “fine romance.”
Thank you for the love, warmth, and inspiration found in each of your books.
It’s all so exciting and just “lovely”. Can’t wait to see you in Utah. Thanks so much for coming.
Don’t you just love the word “lovely”. When I went to England I fell in love with “Lovely”.
Can’t wait to read your book, too. I have almost all of them now. Still working on finding a couple., but love, love them all.
Best Regards,
Connie
I loved lovely and loved that they said luv-lee!
I’ve only recently discovered your blog… which I absolutely LOVE!!! I’m looking forward to introducing myself to your books. They will all be new to me. <3
Yay!
I can’t wait to read about your life in Martha’s Vineyard! Hope to see you in Ohio soon!
Honestly, you can make doing laundry and cleaning house sound like fun!! Hope to see you out here on the Central Coast – safe travels!
My comment says “waiting for moderation” but you’ve posted many comments after mine-did I offend you in some way? I didn’t mean to. Please tell me if I said something that offended you. 🙁
NO, lol, no way, it’s that the newest ones come in on top, I keep scrolling and new ones keep piling on, and I can’t get to the bottom. Right now I have 814 comments, so I’m working through them, and I don’t want anyone to worry! I am having a wonderful time reading your lovely messages!!!
Hi Susan,
Can’t hardly wait for the new book. Fairytale Girl ended on quite a cliffhanger(-: Hope to see you again in Kansas City.
I love seeing your sparkling house and the lace is gorgeous. I tackled a few of our much needed cleaning projects during Lent but have many more to do. I am now anxious to attack the china cabinet. The silver picture frames are shining, the Hummel cabinet is done, but I’m afraid to clean the curtains. They might dissolve, they are so old. Waiting to see your fabric and brave the sewing machine after many years. Happy travels and I’m looking forward to seeing your blog as you go along. xo
I am so excited to read Isle of Dreams. I loved the first two and can’t wait for the next part of your story. I would love to win an autographed copy!
As much as I canNOT wait for your book to arrive in my mailbox, I would be over the moon to receive one of your paintbrushes! I’m just learning to sketch and paint with watercolors. Thank you for the opportunity to win one!
Always love an end of the day interlude with a new Susan chat! You know you’ve become a success when people would just die from excitement to own your worn out paint brush…🎨Love it!
Oh wow! I’d love to win a book–not sure which I would treasure more though–the paintbrush or the book! haha! I love spring. It’s in full swing here in the midwest. My lilacs are blooming and the peony bushes are peaking out of the ground.
Looking forward to seeing you in the St. Louis area. Have a very safe trip! You brighten our days with your fun posts and beautiful art work.
We just sold our beloved home on MV after 36 summers there. This book will comfort me and your blog helps me feel connected to the Vineyard. I’ll be buying several copies for daughters and friends that have visited there over the years. BTW, I am a proud owner of a painting by a Island artist of your garden. It moved with me.
After 36 summers, you will always be connected and vice versa. xoxo
Spring is greening the mountain where I live but “Fairy Tale Girl” gave me spring long before the winter was gone. Thank you so much for sharing your stories and pictures. Can’t wait for your new story…it will take me through the summer months. Have fun on your trip west. Hugs from the mountains.
Can’t wait to read Martha’s Vineyard–Isle of Dreams. It will be my first Susan Branch book– then I’ll read all your others which I have discovered since I started reading your blog. I owe all this to a dear friend who introduced me to it. We are heading to The Learned Owl in May to meet you. Happy Spring!
Thank you, Susan, for bringing so much beauty and peace into my life. I love reading your blogs but especially love the photos of your lovely home. I can’t wait for my new book to be delivered to my home. Hoping to share it with my sister in New Jersey. She has a very sick husband and I want to bring her some hope and cheer her up as she deals with his illness. I know your book will do that. Love you dear.
Let the mailbox stalking begin!! 🙂
Hi- can’t wait to get my copy of the Isle of Dreams. I too have had many dreams, some have come true, some have not. So it’s a living vicariously experience reading your story. Thanks for sharing your life with us!
I’m so excited to see that the books are in! This was the neatest blog – your pictures make me look forward to traveling across the country to relocate, having spring in Ohio, getting a kitty ( Girl and Jack took an adorable brother/sister picture! ), and maybe, just maybe, being able to go to Hudson to meet you and other girlfriends. And there was Chris – are you sure, Chris, that you can’t plan a quick trip back to Ohio in May? That dresser scarf was just beautiful. I haven’t ever starched anything, but you’re inspiring me to try it. The coming days are going to be so exciting for you, the trip and getting ready for it, and when you get back home, I hope you do get to enjoy all the ‘me’ time doing all of the things you like without the pressures of getting a book done. Love from SoCal!
I can’t believe I just found you! It was an exciting day last week in a bookshop called Periwinkle Station that sells greeting cards, books, candy, gifts and other “winkles” that my husband pulled off the shelf your “A fine romance – Falling in Love with the English Countryside”. He knew I would love it – and when he offered to buy it for me – I didn’t hesitate to say yes. I warned him that I might not be available for the duration of the reading of the book – and I don’t mind telling you, I am savoring every page. I love your blog and I know I will continue to find more wonderful things about you!
Happy to meet you Linda!
I’ve been spring cleaning also. I just love that fresh, sparkly look of a deep cleaning. Have a wonderful trip!! I can’t wait for the new book – it’s been a long winter!
Absolutely over the moon!!! Can’t wait to check my mailbox everyday until this new treasure arrives! My hubby so kindly pre-ordered a copy for a Christmas surprise, and now it will be like Christmas all over again in April! We are looking forward to seeing you in Asheville this June! Happy spring to you and Joe, and congratulations on your newest “baby”! 😉
Susan – a gaggle of us are looking forward to seeing you May 21st in Denver Colorado!!
When I saw the Amazon picture of Isle…my heart dropped. I thought the books had arrived at Amazon, and I knew I hadn’t gotten mine yet that I pre ordered from you…and I thought my order got lost and oh my…whew read on to see they just arrived in CA. Now I can count the days in ernest till my copy arrives. Truly, I can’t wait. Have safe and happy journeys!
Congratulations, Susan! You are such a “hard worker”….new book, clean house, trip planned….how do you do it??? I look forward to reading “Isle of Dreams”, and once again, living vicariously through you! xoxo Jackie
I used to help my MIL switch from winter curtains to summer curtains. Dreaded the extra work but learned to love the light gauzy ones that went up and the starched white Pom Pom ball ones that flapped in the breeze.
Dear Susan,
I was so happy to find your blog recently. I’ve been a fan of your art for years! I myself used to work as an artist painting and making prints and note cards in a similar whimsical style as yours! I now do interior design and love my clients I get to work with. Blessings for your trip!
Love,
Kristin
I can’t wait to read the new book!
Susan, I love you, and so looking forward to getting your latest in the mail. How I wish that I could get to one of your signings. Since I won’t, I’ll be following along on your blog to catch all the excitement. What a great idea Joe had about the famous paintbrushes and blotters. Now I must let my SIL in PA know that there’s a new blog to enjoy. Happy travels.
Congratulations on all your hard work and look there it is in all its hard bound glory!
Looking forward to the trip across the pond. 😀
What a beautiful stack of books! Very spring-ey.
Here’s wishing you a relaxing and fun book signing tour.
Oh, Susan! I can’t wait to receive my copy of your latest book from you! Such excitement. I loved the other two so much. Take care on your trip.
