Good Morning . . .MUSICA We are, right now, in the midst of a beautiful inspiring snowstorm here on Martha’s Vineyard, delightfully cut off from the real world, not just any storm, they’re calling it a blizzard. Sometimes, I have to say, working at home has its drawbacks. You forget to get out of your jammies (until someone drops in, then you think, OMG, L👀k at me!), you lay out your newly designed calendar pages all across the living room floor (generally making a mess wherever you go), you stand staring into the fridge and then eat it all ~ so excited about something you’re painting, that you just leave the open extra-crunchy peanut butter jar and the sourdough toast crumbs on the counter and run back to the studio ~ which means your house gets a little disgusting to match your darling self in jammies and shawl, BUT, on a day like today, I take it all back, I’m grateful because it is heaven to be cozy at home, listening to the crackling fire, smelling the smoke, in my jammies, warm in my plaid shawl from Scotland, laying out my calendar pages, eating everything in the fridge, drinking tea with honey and milk … and feeling pretty sure (and safe), that in the pouring snow, no one will stop by! Taking deep breaths, and wishing I could slow down time . . . I love winter, everything so much easier now, than in the summer when the windows are open and the birds are singing and all I want to do is run out and play!
Right now, it’s just counting my blessings, trying to make something out of nothing, blank piece of paper in front of me, never knowing for sure what I am doing, but trying hard to do it, snow falling outside the windows, squirrels hanging from the bird feeders, purring noises coming from my art table . . . the clock ticking on the mantle . . .saying hello to you here and on Twitter (you can go there and just look, you don’t have to join, just in cases😘), then knitting and TV and bed and then do it all over again . . .
This is the view from my studio window right now . . . snow pouring down, spirals flying off the barn, piling up at the tops of the picket fence, making snow flowers in the tree branches . . .
I walk through my sleepy house to go to my Studio in the morning, as I have for so many years, the old floors creak here and there, muffled noises of snowplow come from outside, and I am overwhelmed for the moment, so grateful that I got to grow up and meet Joe and move here, to this old house I adore so much ~ a house that’s more like a parent, protective and safe, like a mom or a dad. 💖 So cozy, it’s hard to tear myself out of bed in the morning ~ I stay a while and listen to the house and the wind.
There’s my honey, a man and his castle, the barn. He was up early, “It’s snowing” he yelled as he ran out the door! The man loves to shovel snow. Don’t ask me why, he just does. Another blessing to be added to my very long list.
I do my part . . .
We kept a few lights in the kitchen ~ along with candles and the flames in the fireplace, they make a perfect cheery contrast to darker shorter days . . .
The lights are still on our kitchen porch too, we keep them year round, they looked good on the summer night of Joe’s birthday too . . .
This place is the perfect place for dreaming . . . and I’m definitely dressed to go dreaming . . . and no, I don’t mind if you come along…🎵🎶
I thought you’d like to see the photo the Sisters sent from the Holy Nativity Convent . . . Isn’t this just darling? This should be their Christmas card next year! Pure love. They have Hygge totally under control! Thank you all for your support of the Sisters ~ so many of you responded to that post by ordering candles and clocks and all the other wonderful things the sisters make… they are ecstatic, you’ve made their day/year, and filled those 17 little stockings with peace and good will. I just have to say, for the upty-ninth time, I love us!
I love him too. My kitty. Now when he rubs his head on me, I rub my head on him. We are simpatico together. I get him, he gets me, and all is well in la-la-land.
So here I am, painting away for the next calendar, thinking to myself, as I watercolor my letters to the tune of the ticking clock, “What will they like? What can I give them . . .” meaning you, and hoping I guess right . . . I do dream it . . .
Oh, and I was thinking, maybe I should make my own mugs? I mean other people have done it, I ought to be able to figure it out. So, for starters, I made a paper one. Just fooling around . . . but isn’t it cute?
As you know, my boy Jack hangs out in the Studio with me, sometimes asleep, but other times he’s going after something . . . like my new Scottish plaid heart (sent to me by Elizabeth) which was hanging on my “fridge.” This is his “you caught me” face. See the pillow on top of the fridge? It didn’t used to look like Jack, but I blacked in the nose and mustache with a black marker and now it does! Life and all it’s little bits and pieces, ahhhhh.
I do have to get to work though, we leave for California at the end of next month, I’ll be meeting (in person) the screenwriter who is still hard at work on the script for our (not-going-to-happen-but-still-a-fun-thought-anyway 😜) movie or series or whatever it will be. It was just this time last year when I first heard someone might want to make a movie from my trilogy of books, and so we’re going to meet under the HOLLYWOOD sign when Joe and I get out to California ~ her idea! A place I’ve never been! So, how fun is that? And also, that book signing I mentioned? It is for sure going to be on March 18th. I don’t know the exact time yet, but I’m assuming it’ll be in the afternoon ~ at the Apple Farm in San Luis Obispo, CA. Did I hear someone mention road trip???? I hope so! Lots of wonderful EVERYTHING in the SLO-town area in March, Spring! Ocean, sunshine🌞, and beach restaurants, cute downtown shopping, antique stores, nearby towns filled with charm, wineries, farmstands and good restaurants . . . on and on. Put the Beach Boys Kokomo in your MUSICA, start learning the words, sing along in your car and and come on down (or over, or up)! Until then, dear friends . . . Enjoy! Next time, on the blog, I’ll show you more of England!
You are having a blizzard and here we are finally having the rain that we use to have. There are a series of storms heading to California for the next week. Yeah! I will take the flooding that they are predicting. Enjoy your snow and I hope see you in March.
Hope the hills are all green when we get out there! Stay dry Becky! I know how wonderful the rain is there, but it can be quite a surprise too sometimes! All those little overflowing rivers!
LOVE LOVE your mug design. I would like one too!💜
Snowing here in Oregon and I too am still in my PJ’s,
baking and painting cards. Love it.
My Dear Susan, you have been an inspiration to me since 1995 when I was given your book, “The Summer Book “, as a birthday gift. I have tried every recipe and the pages show for it!! Over the years all of your books, your words, pictures , lovely drawings ,kitties, oh and Joe of course have helped me through many a difficult time. Whenever you spoke of your walk to the sea each morning, I would close my eyes and smell the ocean! Your words are so comforting and greatly appreciated. I, too was a “Fairy Tale Girl”, until last June when I found out that my husband of 33 years traded me in for a 24 year old. No worries here, he set me free!! I too love the winter and plan on a trip to Maine for my birthday in May. If I am as smitten as I believe I will be, I’ll become a Yankee once again!! Liberated and free to live life on my own terms! So thank you dear friend for being the beautiful woman you are and for helping me get through some very dark days. Oh, and hopefully someday, I’ll have a “Joe” of my own!! Love you Susan!!!
He’s going to be sooooo sorry! xoxoxoxo Love how you’re thinking Colleen! Good luck in this amazing new year!
P.S. I love your paper cup. I think it would make a lovely mug. I would buy if you do have it made.
That’s a good sign, because I’m sure if we do it, they’d would make me order a kazillion of them! 😜
I love the paper cup. So cute and I would buy as well.
Be sure to do your cardinal couple and I’m in!! For a few!!
I first thought it was “real”–I would love to buy one too!
I want one too!
Yes, I would buy a full set of 6 or 8! That paper mug is just lovely! I am in Los Angeles, but need to make a special trp in March. I used to live in Arroyo Grande. Enjoy your wonderful snow! We should have a good rain tomorrow night! 🙂
ME TOO !!
Yay!
I’ll take six of those mugs, please:)
And thank you for that thing you do – that gift you give so generously – make me feel that everything will be alright. ♥
😘
Me Too! The cup is adorable! How about dishes too???? Thanks for making this snowy day even better!
more mugs with birds, please …loverly
And another one, pour moi.
Me 3❤❄️❤
And perhaps a cat mug, too, someday? Just a thought…
Yes, please! Love the mug, and I adore birds. Such a delightful combination. Susan, you always cheer me up with such delight! Have a lovely cozy day. ❤️❤️❤️
YES mugs but not with a thick edge, more like a tea cup edge, delicate rather than Dollar Store format. I would buy a ton, like two dozen for sure. Perfect gift for dear friends.
Never fear! Thin is in!
Make it and we will buy it❤💋
I’d love a set of 4 mugs please. perfect for tea.
ME THREE!
Me Three!!! I would love it if you made mugs! I would have them all!!!
I would buy a whole set of these mugs! Please do make them! How charming! We got snow in Charleston, SC today, too…for exactly 20 seconds. Everyone stopped to marvel, it’s rare here. And…if a movie is done based on your books, I hope they are faithful to the story, I’m sure I speak for many of your fans. I would love to see that movie!
Gotta make that mug! I want one too!
I would buy one too!
Very cute mug! I would also order it!
I love the cup too!
hi Susan …..oh yes!!! make the mug!!! great idea and so much to share… love your snow storm…. always a beautiful time…makes me a bit homesick here in Florida! It is gorgeous here and we are off to our Farmer’s Market …the HoneyBells are here!!!🍊🍊oh yum!! Have a wonderful cozy day…. good day for a fire, a book, maybe an old favorite movie, some stew or chili…dreaming and creating …have fun and stay warm!!! XOXO
love, cindy
You too Cindy, have a wonderful day!
Thank you for the cozy updates. We like knowing what all is going on with you in this blizzard weather! Also, are we allowed to ask how Jeanne is doing? I have wondered if she has someone with her during this winter weather! I hope she is well! Will you tell her the girlfriends think of her and wish her well for us?
You’re definitely allowed to ask! She’s much better in fact. She flagged there for a bit, but now she’s exercising, and her general health is improving because of that, it puts her in a happier frame of mind. Her dear beloved sister has moved in with her, she’s not alone. We’ll go see them when we go out there. I will give her your sweet message Nanette! Thank you for asking!
So good to hear! Love to her, and to your mom, too❤
Oh! Thank you SO MUCH for telling us that Jeanne is rallying! I have had her on my mind and am so relieved her sister has moved in with her! They will be such good company for each other! And we all feel better when we keep moving…….keeps our spirits up! She seemed so very dear and I have had her in my heart, as I have you and your family…….take good care! Stay warm!
Oh, thank you for letting us know, Susan. I have thought of Jeanne so often. I’m so glad that her sweet sister is there with her. Sending extra hugs… ♡♡
Yes, as soon as they get up over there in Arizona I’ll be checking in on them.
Nanette, Thanks for asking about Jeanne….I have wanted to but thought, she might want or need her privacy…. and Susan thanks for answering. Happy to hear she is doing well. For all of you this is a hard time…I know…I lost my mother Dec 23. 1972 and my dad Dec 5, 2000. But we celebrate their lives with a mass in Dec. and I was the lucky one in the family… I received most of the Christmas ornaments one year form my dad,,,,Merry Christmas to me. God Bless you and your family and Jeanne. Love, Susan P.
There really is something magical about a snow storm, isn’t there…
I still have a string of lights up in the dining room and the living room — makes home brighter and cozier in the cold, dark months of winter.
And if you do make mugs, I hope they’re big ones (a good 12 ounces will do). And if you design them with your usual ‘hygge’ flair (birds, cats, flowers, etc.), I’ll be first in line to buy one (or a dozen, LOL).
Here’s hoping that Hollywood comes through!
I know, lol, that would be quite amazing, and a lot of fun!
March sounds like the PERFECT time to leave your cozy nest and wait out the coming of Spring in N.E. there in sunny California! And I love, love, love, that cup. May I put in my order now? 😍
Let’s see if I can get a bottom put into it first! 😀 I’m glad you like it, Cathy!
Hi Susan! Yes, you said it right! This is perfect! On snow and blizzards: My feelings EXACTLY!!! I have been staying in jammies and sketching and writing and baking, leaving things here and there, not even having to put on makeup or comb hair real well. Only 5 degrees here, and I LOVE it!! Even with no snow, still an excuse to stay put!! And no one drops in around here in 5 degrees!! We got in and out to see 2 doctors for Gene before this hit; now have medicine, and he’s improving and I don’t have to worry!!! Yay!!! Still a ways to go, but at least heading in the right direction!! Back to you, though!! 🙂 I LOVE the mug idea. It’s an instant winner! You must pursue this. And thanks, thanks for the SNOW photos. Can’t get too many of those!! They fill my need since we happen to be in this odd little vacuum right now. Snow to the south, snow to the north and east — not a flake here!! But I don’t have to shovel!! Kudos to Joe! I’m with him in spirit, but haven’t the bandwidth to do as much shoveling as I used to like to do — maybe that’s why we are not getting any!! Anyway, prayers and good thoughts for your painting and creative juices to keep running. Sounds like things are flowing well! Good job! Love, Jane xoxo
So happy for you that Gene is on the mend! He is a lucky man to have your constantly cheerful heart. xoxo
…in joy, Susan !!..(thank you for sharing !) I,too, love snow and the little sparkle lights (mine are still up too; and snow is still on the ground here also ! ) !!.. I love your paper cup !!.. if I lived closer I could show you how to throw a porcelain mug then bisque it then glaze it white then high fire it then paint it with low fire glazes (called china painting..but with your style) then low fire it !! easy !!! you would be great at it !! ..sincerely.. ‘love this post ..
Do you make them for yourself?
..yes..I have been a production potter for many years..’love throwing pottery.. I also used to throw them for a lady named Daisy who did beautiful china painting !!..I don’t really keep them for myself, only very favorites that I have handbuilt on..all the rest sold and were given away as gifts….
So if someone wants a special cup for a special person, they would get in touch with you?
..most definetly, however I have been away from my wheel for a bit.. I’m still in the Pacific Northwest….
Okay, just wanted to know, maybe have some cup lovers around here!
Ahh. The contentment of being snowed in. It’s such a hush !! Sign me up if you make that adorable cup come true. Love it…and you !!! Stay cozy.xoxo
Yes please a mug!
Loved this post…you see winter in the “positive” as do I. Here is my latest poem I wrote about this lovely season:
Winter…stark and bare
Winter…frost in the air
Winter…crisp white snow
Winter…cold winds blow
Winter…holiday fare
Winter…a comfy chair
Winter…fireside cozy
Winter…faces rosy
Winter…icicles glitter
Winter…wind is bitter
Winter…no time to roam
Winter…snug at home.
With love from Michigan and Me💕
That is BEAUTIFUL, Linn! Just right!
This is lovely, Lin! Thanks for sharing your poetic heart!
Loved Your Poem! I am a Poet too but I write Inspirational Poetry.
I love to read what others write. We don’t get a lot of snow here in Western Washington. So I enjoyed your “Winter” Poem from Michigan.
Blessings and Hugs,
PeggyAnn
My Joe also loves the snow☃. He says “l ‘ve got to get out in it.” He had just fed the cattle the day before so they would have plenty but the snow came so they needed more. I too love my beloved. Pajama days are some of my favorites. I think I actually get more done for I stay inside. Loved this post, oh I love them all. So glad to be one of the girlfriends. Can’t wait to see what you are working on. Love to you and Joe. ” The Lord bless and keep you.”
Numbers 6:24
Same to you Pam, thank you!
Finished reading the blog, now will leave a comment to put off for another minute getting back to my post holiday carpet cleaning ! Enjoy your snow day(s), I love’em but no snow for us yet. I see no reason why you can’t be our American version of Emma B and have a selection of mugs, a selection we must have one of each of! Thanks for cozying up my little tea break, but work calls. Happy painting.
Hard to get those Christmas tree needles out of the carpet! Good luck Esther! And thank you!
Two years in a row my vacuum has had to go to the doctor after Christmas even though I try to sweep most of the pine needles up first…they get caught and clogged and I can’t fix it myself…tried. So…today…trying again…wish me luck.
Esther, I AGREE!!! (‘ I see no reason why you can’t be our American version of Emma B and have a selection of mugs, a selection we must have one of each of! Thanks for cozying up my little tea break…Happy painting. ‘). Susan, may it be so!! Maybe via ‘mary spring’ (commenter above), but if not, some other way!!
It’s snowing here in Queens, NY, too! I have plans for making a big pot of soup and then picking out a new knitting project. Add me to the list of those who would love that mug!
Okay Sylvia, that’s good!
Love this post because I feel the same way about winter as you do! I love it! Not that I don’t love the other seasons, but there is something about being able to just cocoon inside when it’s blustery outside. Wish we were having the snow here. Also, love the mug idea! So adorable. Enjoy the blizzard!
Sort of like there’s a time for everything, summer, winter, spring and fall . . . everything in their correct time and place. xoxo
Oh how I still love a good snow day! It’s such a cozy feeling and beautiful to watch the sparkling snow through the window. Our lake is almost iced over now. We have a few Canadian Geese left and one graceful Trumpeter Swan (my favorite!).
I say yes to the mugs! Beautiful!
We can toast to winter Marla!
Hello,
We just enjoyed the most wonderful snowstorm in NY also! Loved it, especially as it happened on my Birthday, and stranded both my husband and I at home. We got to play Yahtzee, cards, and eat grilled cheese sandwiches with Tomato soup! Birthday Bliss!
I love the paper mug you made….Please make them for all of us to buy and collect! They are beautiful!!!
Nancy
Birthday Bliss is right! Sounds just wonderful Nancy! I’ll work on that mug!
Just stopping by to say how much I enjoy your blog — I am new to it but I am enjoying it greatly. Thank you so much for sharing the story about the Sisters. I am definitely going to buy some of their candles for Christmas gifts next year — they are quite special. Wishing you a very happy New Year!
Thank you Melissa, nice to meet you!
Ohhh! Susan! Snow! Wonderful! Wonderful! So happy for you and Joe~Snow~Shovel~Man and Jack {how does he like snow, I wonder?} watching from the kitchen ~ bless him! Special cwtch for Jack on the Snow Day!
I’ve just come inside from striding up and down my drive repeatedly as my contribution to my 10,000 steps daily but am now going to read this again with a mug of hot tea, and then read it again because the view outside my cottage is almost hidden in the blanket of damp fog and I need snow not fog! Consoloing myself with my Snowflake Bently pewter snowflakes and some dainty fairy lights that are definitely needed to brighten the day.
Aren’t those stockings, hung by the chimney with care, just the most perfectly arranged perfect stockings you have ever seen? I mean, *ever*! I love the nuns!
Wishing your snow lasts as long as you want it too!
~~~Waving~~~From Across the Pond~~~Deb in Wonderful West Wales xoxo
Yes, I agree, best *ever* . . . ever. xoxo I would love some UK fog my dear. xoxo
Plenty fog here again today so I’ll see if I can puff some Across the Pond to you! You know what I really, truly miss? The sound of the fog horn coming from the South Bishops lighthouse. GPS has a lot to answer for!
Do hope those mugs go into production. I seem to be collecting pretty mugs these days
xoxo
p.s. Have you ever thought about a china tea bag tidy?
What do they look like?
You have a piggy shaped one at your online shop, but I have several in the shape of a tea pot that are quite deep with a pretty pattern on them. They would be so adorable with your artwork! This is a link to Sophie Allport who does them in the UK
sophieallport.com/uk/gardening-tea-tidy
Oh, we call them a tea bag caddy for some reason!
aha! a Tea Caddy is what we keep our leaf tea in! Two great nations separated by a common language once again! xoxo
Another thing I love about us, you, and us, US! 💞
We still have our foghorn, thank goodness. I would miss it so much, I didn’t realize they were doing away with them.
Susan
Love, love todays blog. We are also snowed in in NC. We are a transplant from Buffalo so loving it. Iam in love with the Sisters. I read a lot of x-mas blogs but that fireplace scene tops them all. So cozy I just would love to sit there. The mug idea is great. EB mugs are a bit expensive for me. I have one. Jean
They cost way too much, they’re expensive to start with, but shipping to the USA is what really does it. But they are always one of a kind, so to me, they’re like a reward.
Here’s to COZY! Thank you for sharing your hygge day. We too are enjoying the day and coming days because we are having a nice windy rainstorm here in Eureka Ca.. Husband has built fires and I plugged in all the twinkle lights that still hang on our windows and will for the rest of the month. This is true bliss. Andy Rooney once wrote that raining days free us to enjoy a good book. Wise man, but I also added my own- old movies. Enjoy your day Susan and Joe.
Fondly,
Lani
Sounds blissful Lani! xoxo
Hello Susan! So happy to see you here today, as I was thinking of you this morning when I saw the weather forecast for Martha’s Vineyard. We are here in central NC and have the same snow system that is heading your way now. I saw the word blizzard and I though Susan and Joe will just snuggle in and love every minute. I just this morning caught up with your last couple of posts. I loved the one about the sisters. So much creativity I found it truly inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing that. Enjoy your snow. And yes, I would buy a cup too. Love the red “stitching” on the handle.
Joe has been out, went to the dump to get rid of stuff, he doesn’t realize those are things you do when there ISN’T a blizzard . . . he stopped for do-do’s and brought me one with a cup of coffee, and I’m in 7th heaven in here. Thank you Charlotte, I was kind of fond of the red stitching too! 😀
Enjoy that beautiful winter wonderland….so jealous down here in Florida! Please make that mug; I’m sure there are a lot of us that would love to have one, including me😊
Nice to hear that Diane, I will try!
Hi Susan, I do love waking up to your blog on a Saturday morning. Such a cosy day we are both having ~ cold winds and pouring rain here in CA, and magical snowy blizzards on MV (which we get to experience with you here ♡ I love your “this is the view now” photos!!) Definitely a cocoa in jammies morning. Yes, you did hear someone mention road trip! Linda (my co-grandma of our darling and delightful grandchildren) and I have already started to plan our girls weekend road trip to SLO, which will be our second road adventure to meet you and gather with other FOSB for a SB booksigning fiesta…we loved our trip to Danville last year so much, your booksignings may become an annual tradition! My Beach Boys CD is absolutely coming with us! Of courses! And thank you for sharing your very special visit with the nuns at their House of Creativity ~ their candles and cards will be delivered on Thursday, more hearts on a roadtrip ~ Brookline to Sacramento. So much to look forward to! xoxoxo
Yay Christie, see you there!xoxo
Whenever we visit family in California, we ALWAYS play Beach Boy music in the car. In fact, my kids don’t like me to play it at home in Vermont at all because they think of it as California music. And if a Beach Boy song comes on the radio, they are all instantly transported 3,000 miles. (It doesn’t work on me, though, since I grew up in California.)
I vote YES!! for mugs and the movie idea is just tooooo exciting! Enjoy your snow days.
Greetings from Suffolk, Virginia! We, too, are in the middle of a wonderful snowstorm – 9 inches so far and predicted to end around 10:00 p.m. Woo-hoo! We keep our Christmas candles lit in our windows through February – cozy and brightens the winter spirit. Knitting, reading, and bird watching – seed and suet feeders on our deck and near our kitchen window- colorful and fun to watch the hierarchy at the feeders. The chickadees say, “Excuse me, may I edge in?” while the blue jays scream, “Out of my way!” Fun, fun and more fun. Keep painting! Always look forward to your next creative endeavors!
Nine inches!!! wow! Stay warm Ann!
We here in Indianapolis are content with enough snow to cover our ground without having to wonder where it will all go had it been a blizzard! I also find that feeding the many varieties of birds at the windowsill is pure entertainment. Wild Birds Unlimited is my source of foods for them and they have a product called Bark Butter Bits which are the BEST!!! We even keep our Eastern bluebirds around because of the bits.
Susan, the mug is a sure winner. All of your girlfriends are swooning over the idea already. Can you sneak Jack into one of your mug designs? He is too cute with his mustache. When I read about how you colored your cat pillow to make it look like Jack, I laughed out loud and my husband wanted to know what I was reading.
Your snow pictures are amazing and take us all back to a more peaceful time in Americana. Now that I see your little twinkling lights still out on the porch, I may regret that I just took all of ours down yesterday! They do lend a cheerfulness in their simplicity.
Always so good to read your blog and the many responses from the masses. It is one of the blessings in all of our lives.
Betsy
I ADORE the comments, the best part of my blog! I will put Jack on a mug one day, when I figure this out… He deserves a little immortalizing! I need to get some of those bark butter bits. They sound good enough for ME to eat!
Yes please, a mug. Then maybe later a small plate to go with it, oh and then a tea pot? But not if it takes too much time away from your travels and other joys. Also, what is a “do-do”? Perhaps a donutty type of thing? Thank you bringing your joy to us all!
Yes, it’s a donut… Only for some reason, this household talks baby talk when discussing do-do’s.😀
There really is no one like you, my dear. You really are a Fairy Tale Girl in every way. Please make real mugs!!!!!!!! They will sell!!!
I will try Kimberly, xoxoxo thank you!
We have a beautiful snow today too, which I am loving, but it’s supposed to be in the 60’s by Tuesday and I won’t mind that either :). It was fun to see the cheery little snowman banner — he’s in his element today. I love your mug, Sue! It looks good even in paper, though I can see the drawbacks of a paper mug ;). Hope you can get them made! xoxo
Yes, no bottom in that cup! I love my winter Bunting dear Janie!
❤
I have that little snowman banner hanging in my office,too, Janie, and every time I look at it, I remember meeting you in OKC, when you gave it to me! Hope things are going well for you. <3 xo
Your snowed-in life seems perfect! Mugs??? Did you say mugs??? What a grand idea. But consider the benefits of a round bottom. On the mug of course. It sits cozy and warm in your hand on a cold day. It holds more. There is more room to paint! OK, here is my unasked for opinion. Round bottom with bluebirds and flowers and hearts. To hold two cups, because it is nicer that way. There.
Enjoy your blizzard, hope your power stays on!
Round bottom? Don’t they all have round bottoms? Good point about the power! LOL!
I would adore a Susan Branch mug (or several). Great idea! A tea cup, saucer, and teapot would make me happy, too. I love the ones that have the pot and cup nested together.
Enjoy your winter. I’m enjoying a cool day here in Central Florida. We may go down to the forties tonight, so I have my toe socks on with my flip flops, and my fireplace DVD crackling away. That’s how I love winter — one day (or two) at a time. I’m a Florida girl to my core.
That pillow looks just like Jack. He is such a sweetie.
Stay warm and keep dreaming. You are an inspiration to all of us homebodies.
LOL, toe socks and one day (or two) at a time! You are in the perfect place for you!
Yay for the mug! It’s overdue, if you ask me! Sharing the blizzard here in Virginia and your post went well with the fire in our fireplace. I’m also very busy watching the birds at the feeders that my husband filled yesterday before the storm. Cozy is the word. Enjoy your blizzard and stay warm. 💕❤️
You too, Barbara!
I’m with you, Barbara, SB mugs are over due! Mugs from the Heart of the Home — bring ’em on! Can’t you just see how colorful a whole shelf of them would be?! Pure delight!
Your little cup is kind of perfect – love!
And the kitty cushion on top of the fridge, altered with a marker, is so funny!
Oh I hope they do make that movie, or series…That would be so exciting!
I honestly caught my breath when I saw the calendar page at the top of your post….this is my FAVORITE page ever, one of my most favorite of all of your art (so far!. It was the First page of the First calendar of yours that I ever had. I had just found out about you on Pinterest, that winter, during a very difficult and painful time. I have hung up that calendar in the following years, during the winter season, just to be able to see it every day. I have thought many times of taking that page in to get it framed along with a couple of others, but I don’t want to take the calendar apart! I just love it, the kitty, the fireplace, the whole picture is winter perfect-ness to me 🙂
Enjoy the storm, we’re hunkered down too, except for my husband who got called into work for the duration of the snow. Stay warm!! Love the pillow of Jack, so cute! His October page from last year is another big favorite of mine and I am sure lots of others feel the same way. 🙂
You picked two of my favorites too!
Amylisa, I feel the same way about Susan’s calendars. I don’t even write in the larger ones . But, I do write in her pocket calendar….in fact, if I lost that one, my life would cease to exist….ha! Have you tried eBay for the extra calendar which you could frame? Might be worth checking out. Rachel
I would love mugs! But I do tablescaping and would love plates as well! See you in March!
I’ll be there!
Yes, yes, yes to a Susan Branch mug or even better yet, a series of mugs. What a delightful idea! Do make it happen!
I so hope the movie happens. I’ve got my hopes up since you first mentioned it.
A box of delicious pears arrived for us as a Christmas present. The week between Christmas and New Year’s we had friends for a casual dinner. I made your delicious and beautiful chocolate poached pears from Christmas From Heart of the Home. Perfect ending to our meal and perfect way to use our pears!
Enjoy the blizzard and stay safe and warm and cozy inside your home. Hugs and love from Austin.
Hi Susan , a great Hygge style blog. Your house looks so cosy against the background of snow. Definitely carry on with the mugs, after all that’s exactly how Emma Bridgewater started out with hers – just read her Toast and Marmalade biography!
Yes!!! Beautiful Susan Branch Mugs please – I will buy a boat load 🙂 Love all your snowy pictures too! Watching the clouds moving in here in California, YAY! More rain on the way! Thank you for giving me a cheery morning read to start my day!
Loved the mugs you painted when you went to the Emma Bridgewater factory. We love everything you do, but mugs would be great. Love reading your blog posts. Snowing here in Ashburn VA, but as they say here ‘conversational’ snow. Translation, not enough to shovel or cause problems. ☃️❄️
Isn’t a snow day just wonderful? We are having one as well and it’s just so cozy and homey here. Life just seems to slow down and become so quiet as the snow falls. Please make mugs, dear Susan. You know your girlfriends would love them with sweet little birds adorning them! Stay warm and cozy in your house of creativity. xoxo ♥
Yay! So much wonderful-ness in this blog❤❤! You included one of my all time favorite Gladys Taber quotes, and yes, yes please, we’d LOVE a Susan Branch mug or two!!Hugs❤!
PS The little winter snowman garland thay Janie made is hanging on my hutch…can’t remember exactly when I got it, but it has to be a few years old🙂
Hi Susan, Sometimes I wonder how we think so much a like I love winter. We aren’t having a blizzard here, just a couple of inches of snow and the temp is 0 with a wind chill of – 13. Where have I been? Out sweeping snow off the side walks and drive way and any place else I can fine just to be outside. My neighbors think I am crazy, but I love the cold. Afterwards, I love coming into my warn kitchen where the Christmas lights are still hanging in the windows, fixing a cup of tea then heading to my scrapbooking room to work on a new page. Love your blog. It keeps me going many a day. Oh by the way, I am from Kokomo. Indiana that it is. Always a popular song around here.
Dear Susan,
Reading your post this morning was like basking in happiness. Just what the doctor ordered. Thank you! I loved every morsel….and I LOVE love love the MUG! Yes, please!
Sending love from Southern California (I’m a Valley girl too!) to you, Joe and Jack.
Laura
I did buy a clock for our first born’s birthday and I can’t wait to give it to him next week!
My sister, my mom and I are getting all hygge-like here in my hometown. I do miss Timothy but he is home bonding with Bill. Ha! I miss Bill, too!
Please make mugs! Big ones!
I so love the sisters and I might have to find some nuns in Denver.
Stay snug, good hygge sister! ❤
We have snow too! Isn’t it just heavenly! I put music on this morning, made spaghetti sauce, put a tiny jasmine flower in a tiny vase on my kitchen window sill and smiled how your spirit is with us all in the heart of the home! Our black lab, Mabel, came in to the kitchen from the couch, laid down and placed her front foot on my foot, I think just to say “I love you and I love how you are cooking”:) Later on, my husband and I took her for the prettiest hike in the snowy woods….. I mean it! It is everything magical!
I love the mug! and look forward to hearing about the progress on making your books into a series or movie. I know it will make transcendent inspirational viewing!!! Quiet blessings in the snow, Caroline
Good Morning-sharing your blizzard here in Braintree, not too, too far away from you. Lovely blog again. May I ask what you’re knitting now? You must have graduated from scarfs. I haven’t, but doing a pretty lilac colored one right now. Hard to decide between reading, knitting, and watching birds at feeder (maybe a short nap).
No, I never graduate from scarves! Nap first, all other things shall come in their own sweet time!
Thanks-I’ll take your advice. Nap first!
Sounds as though you are set to get lots of snow from this blizzard! We are to have a hugh storm as well starting this afternoon. Snow all this coming week with 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ice to boot. Went to the grocery store this morning to gather up some food just in case we are stuck in the house for a few days. May not make it to church tomorrow. I hope that both our storms won’t last, but will be cozy in the house with cooking and reading, etc. Will give me a chance to start on some greeting cards again.
Until later…..
xoxox
What a great idea!!! Yes, yes, yes!! Make the mugs!! You have a clientele ready and waiting!!
Enjoy your blizzard. It looks like the “real McCoy”. You can enjoy the fire, make chili, drink tea, paint, and watch the birds. Sounds like a perfect winter day – or two. XOXO!!
I do envy you your lovely snow!! We have not had a good snow storm so far this year (outside of Rochester, NY by beautiful Lake Ontario) and I miss the snow. It is frigid here, 11 degrees and tons of sunshine, but no snow. So, I will enjoy the pictures of your snow and stay warm inside. Oh, and I would so order that mug! I love it!
I had a big Maine coon cat. Took me two years to coax him out of an old orchard. First time he ever came into the house, he jumped up on the bed and nestled down into the comforter as if to say, “Ah, finally; this is what I know.” He’d clearly been traumatized/abandoned but remembered another life. Anyway, he wasn’t much for cuddles but we would head bump, so I definitely KNOW that connection; it was a dear thing between us that he’d actually allow!
The snow sounds wonderful to this SoCalif girl; I’ve never known it, of course (although ‘it’s raining, it’s pouring [!!! hear me singing?!!!]’ here, which is pure bliss [take THAT, you old, dry, barren drought!!]!). You sound very much in the present, seizing the moments; an important way to BE.
Now, take that and BELIEVE that a perfect script will evolve, with your ‘story’ on small screen or big screen (totally exciting).
I would SO buy your mugs. Anyone who loves your art WOULD!
You’ve been doing many nice, close-together posts lately so, yes, go to work now(!); we’re good for awhile. You need time to create other stuff! Thanks for checking in. Thanks for reminding us to look around ourselves and feel blessed in whatever little corner of the world we’re in at this very minute. Soak it in! Use all our senses to listen, watch, breathe, feel…
I love that little quote of yours in the illustration, “The darker the storm, the cozier the fire.” Nothing like ‘the cozy’ of a nice fire going in the fireplace on a cold, gray afternoon/eve…happiest childhood memories of my first family gathering ’round, hearth & home; the dogs getting too hot and having to shift position on the floor in front of it! Felt so ‘safe’ and good to little me.
PS: What are you knitting these days? Do you do a lot of knitting?
I just like to keep my hands busy while I watch TV. I don’t do a lot, and I always knit the same thing ~ scarves! Okay, I’m going to take your advice and get back to work! Thank you dear Vicki!
I wish I had your attitude about a blizzard. We are getting a good a bit here and I am pacing to and fro! lol. Stay warm and cozy. It is days like these that I miss my old home and the beautiful fireplace I had.
Light some candles, they are a very good substitute. 💖
Good ideaM. 😉
Please DO design mugs! Will you ever license personal checks again? I’m just finally running out of my long ago purchased supply! Can’t find anything I like as well as your artwork😍
Susan I think making cups is a wonderful idea. We all LOVE your art work.
How could you go wrong??
Keep warm, wish I was there,
Star*
Watch out cozy be-jammied girlfriend…I am right next door and could pop in any minute! Except….in my own cozy world here I am simmering an enormous pot of ragu which will go on the pasta I plan to make tonight ( providing the electricity holds) with the new pasta machine Santa ( John ) put under our Christmas tree!
Here comes the rumble of the snow plow now…we must have at least 8 inches by now! I have shoveled the path to my mother’s house 4 times already!
Must be time for hot chocolate….xoxo Lowely
OH NO, this is my nightmare! 😱 Whew, you scared me with that first sentence! Love you dear. I’m sure your house smells heavenly. SO gorgeous outside. About to light candles, just in cases electricity goes out, we’ll be ready. Call us if you need anything! XOXOXOXO
Hello both you darlings – Sue, just checking in, I have read and loved EVERYTHING and will write very soon, so much to catch up on! We have NO snow…:-( but fairly warm here, about 7c, and foggy tonight…daffodils and snowdrops are shooting and will soon be up! Watching ‘The 39 Steps’ from 1935 right now with a last cup of tea before bed…LOVED this post and can’t believe that’s the garden we left in baking heat just a few months ago! Love you xoxo bye Lowely too xoxo
Oh, look at us, all here together! How can you not love (at least this part of it) the Internet!!! Daffodils Rachel! That means Joe and I lived through the “toughest” part of your “winter!” Hard to believe, it looked so much like fall! Cry, a bit. Daffodils in England, how we would love to see it! Take your time sweetie, we aren’t going anywhere! xoxo
Dear Susan~
I loved your comment about your home. Our house feels like a good parent as well. Love that idea, it’s always felt like a living, breathing part of our family. I would love to know the stories of the other families that knew “Twin Oaks House”, yes we named our house too! It’s from 1939, not nearly as old as your beautiful home, but it they keep tearing the old treasures down, ours will be the old lady of the block 🙁
Hygge and Hugs~
You are doing wonderfully!!! Certified!
It’s cold and snowy in Michigan and I’m warm and cozy in our 105 year-old house. Listening to the radiators hiss and sputter as they warm the house is a wintery delight. I think you were referring to the movie, Love Actually, when you wrote “just in cases.” My favorite movie! I do hope you can design mugs, plates, and everything else needed for setting a SB table! Enjoy your blizzard! ❤
Yes I was, can’t seem to say it any other way now!
Ahhhhhhhh–this was just what I needed. It felt like I melted right down like a little snowflake and entered your world for just a few moments, and it was bliss. Especially after staring at a computer screen most of the day. I feel like a human again. I love it all, especially t h a t M U G! And snow-shovel boy and his barn. And of course Monsieur Jack. And mostly the thought of you in PJs padding about your house. Thank you for letting us stop by–it was all perfect.
Ohhhh! Please make mugs with cozy little cottages on them! A little sleet and snow here today in NC so we are cozily trapped. ❤️
Yes! I agree with Beth Wilson. Matching plates and a matching tray to carry them on would be nice. With plenty of birds and flowers on them!
Dear Susan:
Our Cape Cod is making the best night time noises also this winter, (or is something loose on my roof, or something living in my attic?) I feel better in not knowing the reasons, but on a snowy, windy night it is so much fun to listen to the wind chimes outside that make the most wonderful soothing sound. Are you going to CA by train this year? Send lots of pics. Great post, SB
Yes by train and we can’t wait! All those “old house” thoughts that happen during storms, “is someone breaking down our door,” so funny!
I love your cup or mug. Birds are wonderful, but I can see Jack on a series. I drink my tea from a mug, no dainties here. Just to let you know I love staying in my pajamas all day if possible. Just made bread and have homemade chicken noodle soup on the stove. No snow here but bitter cold weather.
Well we have some snow here in the Dallas area also, the driving in it yesterday was not much fun. But the curled up in bed reading today is! Ours won’t last long, but will enjoy while we can.
Do make the mug, I love it.
It snowed yesterday here in the Memphis —1& a half inches—a nice amt. for us & it is still 19 degrees—brr…,! 2 of our 3 Golden Retrievers have been rolling
in it —the other dog prefers the warm house. Happy snow to you & Joe!
Just popped your Lemon Daisy Cake in the oven for my birthday cake. And the snow has just started to fall here. Predicted light and fluffy snow yippee!
Happy Birthday! Lemon Daisy in the snow, how perfect!
The snow started an hour ago up here in Maine. Am tucked up on the couch with a quilt and the dog, watching the birds (6 Bluebirds a little while ago)
It’s heaven when you can sit inside with cocoa and just watch it fall. It’s mesmerizing!
Happy snow day!
Ann
I love the cup, you should make some!
Yes please do the mugs. I love the birds. Cardinals for winter, robins
For spring, etc. yellow finches for summer.
Lovely and yes, 12 oz for a lively cup of tea.
Oooooh, I do think mugs are a lovely idea!!!! Please proceed!
The snow looks gorgeous there. But even better is the Christmas room with all those stockings!
I love your idea of mugs, with, perhaps, a little quote inside. Looking at your paper cup, I could see them as bathroom cups, too. What a delight for anyone visiting and needing a sip of water while in the loo.
Stay “snug as a bug in a rug” as you finish your calendar art!
Hugs, Patti
March?? Really?? Maybe my daughter and I can plan a road trip. We live in Lake County in California 💜
YES, make mugs! But please not ones that are so heavy as most are. Heavy mugs when filled can only be held with two hands. Well, with my 70 yr. old hands, anyway. Surely other girlfriends would agree. 🙂 Love ya, Susan
Emma
The paper mug you made is beautiful–go for it. I would be interested in purchasing one–or two.☺
I so want to make a road trip to meet you in SLO!!!
Do we need to register somewhere to ensure this might happen??
Oh, what fun!!!
Just be sure to get reservations near SlO for March 18th … and otherwise, when I give you the time (as soon as I find out what it will be), all you have to do is show up!
Hi, Susan, I’m a newcomer here and love your books & blog. I read portions of your books to my hubby who enjoys them, too. Love, love that you may have a movie or series. Also hope you will seriously consider the mugs. I am from northern OHiO and we have snow & zero themps this week. Do stay warm & I look forward to your next posting on your blog. Kathy😀
Hi Kathy, welcome to the nicest neighborhood I know!
Snow here in Andover, but I guess the Cape and Islands hit the jack pot! I too have been enjoying the feelings of being snug, feet up, staring at a shawl pattern I ordered and realize I better read those directions again! Going to make stuffed shells for Jack (my husband, not our cat!) some sourdough bread, and enjoy this windy storm.
I love the mug. The cherries and blue on the handle. How about a design with a bird for each season, I would buy gladly, just a thought, happy snow Day,
Diane
Thanks for the lovely snow blog. We are having snow in New York as well. I like it too, but today I didn’t want it because my son is headed back to Mongolia to continue his PHD research, but thank God he did take off and is near Greenland. Also, I know someone who is getting married today. On a bright note, she may get some pretty pictures in Central Park! Other than that, all is well, and my Joe and my daughter-in-law are hunkered down watching marathon episodes of Will and Grace waiting for the snow to stop and tracking Tom’s flight! By the way, I hope the books get made into a movie or series, and I too love the mug!
My sweet friend gave me an Emma Bridgewater mug for Christmas just because we saw it on your blog. LOVE IT. Yes make your own mugs. Also I’m sad to tell you our locally owned bookstore, Booksellers, in Memphis Tn. Is Closing😥 This is where we met you and got all of your books. I just don’t like Amazon shopping. I like to touch and smell books in a bookstore
That is terrible news! I’m so sorry Debbie, such a huge loss! xoxo
Happpppy Snow Day, Susan!
I am excited & hopeful that you will design a mug for us! Only a tea-drinker can design it correctly…so we need you to!
Hubby & I are enjoying the snow here too. He’s itching to get out and shovel …must be a “guy thing!” (I’d rather watch from the window & have a steaming pot of soup ready for him to “thaw” with a bowl.)
Stay safe & warm,
Hugs,
Charl
I have been feeling very blue today trying to figure out what comes next in my life so then there right before my eyes appears your sweet winter blog……I know I need to create that is what makes me happy so off to my sewing room I go…..thank you for always always being an inspiration to me.
Thank you Nettie, that was so sweet!
A blizzard here too! We have over 3 1/2 feet of snow on the ground now and it keeps coming down!!! Supposed to continue off and on all week – not sure where we are going to put it all but it is lovely and cozy in the house. I’m in my sewing studio trying to decide which project (of many) to work on. 🙂
Sharing the same snowstorm here just west of Boston (though I think you’ll get more than we do) and it is a wonderful luxury to have an excuse to stay in and read a book or finish sewing some of the projects I never had time to complete before Christmas. Speaking of which, I love your little quote from my favorite Christmas movie, Love Actually. I have a wonderful photo of my 20 month old granddaughter in her Christmas finery carrying one of your Christmas gift bags to put under the tree – wish I could post a photo for you to see.. My daughter and I have two or three of your bags and carefully keep and reuse then year after year. I do so hope that you follow-through on your idea of creating mugs – I’d love to add a few to my collection – but the handle has to be just right – not so big that your whole hand fits through it, but not so small that it doesn’t balance with the weight of the mug. Knowing you I’m sure you’ll figure it out! Lucky for you that Joe loves to shovel, but if it’s a heavy snow, I hope he takes it easy! Enjoy the rest of your snowday!
Just got back home to Tampa, after our little 4 night retreat over to Anna Maria Island, near Sarasota. Loved every minute of my time with my Tom Terrific. We had so much fun acting like young lovers. Getting ready for his open heart surgery, which will will be perfectly A-OK. But, I looked at your beautiful snow pictures as soon as we walked in the door and wanted to get on a plane and go to Maine. Being from the South, I fell hard for the snow! Pure magic. Thank you for giving me the Next Best Thing to being in front of my fire in our snug home in Down East Maine. Isn’t it fun?
YES to the mugs!
Debbie in Tampa….for now
Happy SB mug dreams to all while you nap through wintry storms – however Winter’s changes show up in your neck of the woods…example: toe socks in flip-flops in FL. What a visual, Gail!!
Pretty unanimous that we love this cute, “stitched” handled mug! Oh my, aren’t we lucky to wake to lovely greetings from you. You add warmth to the coldest of days and sunshine to the darkest of days. Let’s all live forever so that we can continue to reap the creativity of Susan. Are you up for a ba-zillion more years to create, Susan? We will support you. Here-here! 💗💗💗
Susan I would buy so many of yours cups if you
made them!! And have you seen La La Land yet??? You
You simply MUST go see it. Brave the cold and go see it. It is
“Our” kind of girlfriend movie. Bittersweet but oh so wonderful
and old Hollywood in style. I hope to some to SLO to meet you
again for another wonderful book signing 🤓
Not here yet! I’m ready!
Yes, yes, please make your own mugs! Love your books! Drinking from your mug while reading would make them even better. The paper one is delightful!
Just started following your blog from freezing cold southern Ontario and enjoy it immensely. We use Celsius for our temperatures here in Canada. This morning the thermostat read a brisk -10 degrees. Having a cozy afternoon watching Julia starring Vanessa Redgrave which was on the Turner Classic Movie channel last night.
Thanks for your cheery reports and photographs.
Yes, please – mugs and teapots! (and maybe delicate tea cups)! Maybe there are some potters on Martha’s Vineyard who can help you figure it all out… I’d love to see it. Love my Emma Bridgewater – I’d love my Susan Branch even more!
Hi Susan!
Snowing here in Peekskill, NY. It’s light now, maybe a few inches on the ground, but so pretty coming down… I too had a day in PJ’s, no make up, just relaxing and reading and drinking my English Breakfast tea with milk and lots of honey. Was supposed to go into NYC today, but was a bit under the weather, so I’m glad I stayed home. We were not really expecting much snow here, but Mother Nature had other plans, and I hear the city is getting even more than we are, even though we are north (my sister in law and niece went down anyway)!
I adore the picture of the Sisters’ cozy living room. How beautiful! I’m with you in loving the winter. How lucky are we that we get to experience 4 seasons? Each one has a beauty of its own, but winter days like these give us the best excuse to stay in, eat, relax, and enjoy our cozy homes…
Love the mug idea! I can just see myself sipping hot chocolate from it! Stay warm…
Oh, Susan. A movie of your books is so timely with “LaLa Land” the musical incontention for Golden Globes and Oscars. With all the music you choose for your blog, your movie would have to be a musical. I can just see Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as the younger Joe and you dancing through your romantic early years. And then Richard Gere and Sally Field as your present day selves, merrily floating away to England, hiking over hill and dale while hugging sheep, picnicking and decorating for the seasons. And the “seasons” which you love would be a perfect theme for your first series of 12 oz tea/coffee mugs. Then the next series could match your charms!!! Ohhh I’d better sign off, I’m getting carried away with dreams!
I sent your comment to the screen writer!!! She loved it! xoxo
I bought your calendar and I just want you to know, Susan, what a lift it gives me to look at it daily – many times a day! 🙂 My daughter loves it, too. Thank you for making the world a happier, prettier, more positive place.
Hello! Hello! Hello! It’s a mug of hot chocolate day here too in Wisconsin. Not much snow (four recent past storms have just about melted away)… but, the cold sub zero has returned.
I too adore the Winter…and the other 3 seasons…but, the Winter lets me do all my indoor hobbies as in Summer being the avid gardener that I am, my time is mostly spent in my garden.
Love seeing your pictures and art work!
If you’re going to be in SLO on March 18, you might already know you’ll be there during the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival. I’m a former board member (so I’m probably biased) and feel this is one of the best events on the planet. And the thick of it takes place in downtown SLO!
Ohhh, even better! Fun!
I vote YES for mugs. Love the EB’show but if I got one for me I would need on for each Grandchild (3) as we have a child size tea set that we evjoy every time we get together. Have to have Butter cookies on hand also!
Would love to have u our version for ou tea times!
Love, love, love your blog! Totally makes me smile every time. Snow in Virginia overnight and most of the day today. I’m in my pj’s still and my bunny is in the kitchen, home with me now because of the snow, instead of being in my classroom all alone. He’s getting on in years and I can’t leave him for long periods of time. The predicted snow was a wonderful reason to bring him home for the weekend. Leftover champagne from New Year’s Eve made yummy mimosas to toast the snow and the coziness of home. A gift from a former student and her family afforded me your 2017 wall calendar and desk blotter calendar. Love looking at them every day and reading that you are hard at work on 2018 calendars. Thank you, Susan! I am so grateful for your artistry, vision, and generosity of spirit! Melissa
Ohhhh, love the you brought the bunny home! xoxo
So glad I made the call because we have no school tomorrow and I would be so worried about him. His name is Bella – his former owner named him before knowing his sex. I decided not to change it because he is the most wonderful pet – he has a majorly wonderful personality – funny, sweet, loving – I wonder what I did to deserve such a sweetheart of a pet. We call him “Bella the Fella.” I LOVE cats but I’m allergic. It’s wonderful to enjoy Jack and Girl Kitty from afar – LOVE the Jack pillow on top of the fridge! Bella is very like a cat and I can manage the allergy because he isn’t in my bedroom. My students love him. He is very generous with them and patient. BTW, I love the idea of Susan Branch mugs! I have an Emma Bridgewater mug with bunnies (of course) but I’d be very proud and pleased to collect Susan Branch mugs, too! Thanks again, Susan!
I’ll need to do us a bunny! Bella sounds like heaven. What color is he?
Hello from record-breaking, snowy southwest Idaho! Currently snowing here, too…again…as I type. We’ve had THREE consecutive “snow days” from school (unheard of in the Boise area). In fact, because of the snow days, we haven’t even returned from Christmas Break! However, being “cozy” and locked in my house for several days has turned me into a very good house keeper (eat your heart our Martha Stewart 😉 haha). After a good Epsom salt soak in my tub along with a Dead Sea mineral anti-stress mask (not that I was feeling stressed out; just sounded nice) today, I read your blog from top to bottom as I always do and I was inspired…as I usually am: we are having breakfast for supper–and in our jammies! Ray found a breakfast pizza recipe that had several “short cuts” (pre-browned breakfast sausage, country gravy mix–blah) to make preparing it easier. However, I don’t take short cuts. I will brown my own sausage and make my own gravy from the drippings. Ray doesn’t ask why I insist on that. He knows it’s because “Susan says so.” My motto since I first began cooking your recipes and pouring over your books back in 199….oh, the year doesn’t matter. Wish I could post a picture here of our blizzard. Did the next best thing and posted it to the FOSB on Facebook. Stay cozy <3 <3 <3
xoxo Good girl! And thank you!
Here in Salem, Oregon we are also having snow, not a blizzard though. Love your description of the loveliness of it all and how cozy it can be for lucky us.
Susan…you are getting some of the snow we had a few days ago here in Colorado! Most was north and west of us, but it was frigid outside! BRRRRRRR!
Loved this post as I (we) do all of them…as someone earlier said, complete HYGGE! Jammies are my morning attire far too often. However, who cares!?!
I just finished your trilogy…got the books for John and me for Christmas. I love them…couldn’t put them down. John is reading “A Fine Romance” now. Your writing envelopes the reader and makes her/him part of your story. I wanted to tell you and your friend Rachel that I made her Lemon Butter Cookies for Christmas…3 batches of them! They are wonderful! Please tell her thank you for letting you share her recipe with us. XOXOXOX
Enjoy your cozy day with your honey. I love those kind of days for John and me too. I’m going to buy lots more candles…it’s a HYGGE thing.
I’ll tell her Sherrill, thank you!
Sherrill, I’m right here…and so THRILLED to hear that you baked the cookies for Christmas and loved them! Thanks so much for letting us know! xoxo
Hey Susan
I’m all for the paper mug or cup. People would love love love birds!!!
Get going girlfriend. 🤓
Cheering you on….
Hi,
Suffolk, (like England) Virginia is having a blizzard/snowstorm too. “Heaven, I’m in heaven!” The tree and lights are still up in my house for the perfect touches to a winter day. I am missing my Angel Chimes. I have already tuck them away for next year.
I love the cup, but keep in mind a southern girl must have a saucer, teapot, creamer, sugar bowl and a small plate for her tea and snack. Oh! A Cute difussuer would be nice or a coffee pot for coffee drinkers. Lol 😂 from a dish enthusiast not to be confused with a dish aholoic as my husband so fondly calls me.
Enjoy!
LOL, too funny!
Susan…I forgot to mention how excited we are for you talking about possible a screen play for your trilogy! We hope your meeting goes the way you want it to.
Also, LOVE the paper cup and the “maybe” future addition of “potter” to your already long list of talents. : )
